Best Electricians in Chicago, IL

We were warned by homeowner friends when we moved into our new home that a good electrician is hard to find. We didn't realize this until our power kept glitzing and turning off in the basement whenever we have space heaters on.  Did a yelp search and got numerous quotes but Stefan's from AC/DC  was the most reasonable.  He came and assessed the problem, replaced burnt-out hazardous outlets and advised us to get baseboard heaters. He came back to install them and create a separate circuit breaker a week later. We are very happy with the work he's done, and we didn't lose an arm and a leg with the price he charged. Yes! We found a good electrician. He's definitely a keeper.

Darrell showed up on short notice and managed to install our new pendant lights. The lights were on a 16' ceiling above a counter. He managed to install them using a 12' ladder on top of the counter, which was impressive. He was efficient as well and did a great job. Also, followed COVID protocol which we appreciated.

Most helpful and courteous on phone when scheduling appointment.  Took only two days for electrician David to come out.  He was prompt, courteous and repaired problems within less than an hour.  Prices reasonable for electrician and no trip charge.

Outstanding father and son duo. Arrived early, got right to work, respected our home, found the problem and completed the work in a little over an hour. /the price was right for the work he had to do and we now have a fixed attic fan!!! Can't say enough good about Ted and his son. They are wonderful.

I contacted them with some pictures for a quote on some minor work. I got a prompt reply telling me that no significant work was needed! Thus while I did not end up hiring them, I am extremely satisfied with their service. I definitely plan on getting quotes from them in the future!

The power went out in half my house on Sunday morning. After resetting all the circuit breakers and calling Comed. I starting calling electricians. My call was promptly answered, and Mr. Ryan explained that he was out on a call, would be available in a couple hours, and he would call me back. He did call me back, but by that time, Comed had restored the power. While he did not actually come out and provide service, I was satisfied with the response and would not hesitate to call Ryan Electric in the future.

I do not think there is a better electrician in the midwest if not the country. Seriously, brilliant customer service and excellent techs who are knowledgable and completely professional keep us coming back. Let me explain why...

I am a property manager for a management company in Chicago. We have used countless vendors but Highlights is our main electrician. From our vintage buildings to our west loop luxury condos, they can do it all. They also are so well versed in lighting and lighting troubleshooting that I have saved hundreds on work because they understand those tricky wattages.

Last but not least there is Kemal. Dealing with him is like calling up an old friend. The kindness and how he goes above and beyond for clients is really exceptional. Trades can be hard and gruff when it comes to coordinating work but Kemal is so helpful and considerate!!

If you don't go with Highlights... you are making a mistake!

Steer Clear. This is not a legitimate electrical company. Gave me an estimate and did the electrical work for an EV charger in our condo building. Even though building management didn't request City of Chicago license initially, they checked for it later (it can be asked for at any time) and this company is not licensed in the City of Chicago and its illegal to do residential work without it. The job was done completely wrong and he almost blew the sump pump and electrical to entire building by connecting to a panel inexplicably and was told not to. Installed wiring that was bent and broken and taped together which could have caused shocks and burning. New contractor easily installed it - no bends or breaks. The wall outlet installed was open and exposed, and if water dripped to it could electrocute people. Sloppy, cut corners, dangerous, illegal and not up to code. Absolute garbage, rushed work. Refused to get City of Chicago license and come fix job. We will be pursuing our money back. This is an illegitimate electrical company. Avoid at all costs.

Addendum to review:

Right, I'm not an electrician , but here are couple facts that a real electrician should have known and done, that found out about your job.

You were told by the building engineer to use the 480/277 volt panel because 208/120 was already at the capacity.

You just plainly ignored that and proceeded with your version. Maybe you don't know the difference between two.

You ran 208/ 120 wires through 480/277 panel which was a huge code violation and a human life safety issue.

And that's not all:

Then you spliced those wires inside that panel multiple times -- code violation.

You then decided to use lightning contractor conduit to run the wires and overfill that conduit -- code violation.

You installed the breaker at the wrong panel (which was at capacity) so you overloaded that panel.

The wire was badly scraped

You removed pipe straps and made the electrical conduit loose -- code violation.

J boxes that you installed were unsecured and loose with knock outs missing -- code violation

I'm still waiting on the city of Chicago electrical registration paperwork  from you.

A qualified electrician would know right away that he is working with 480/277 volts and would have informed me that i needed a step down transformer in order for the EV charger to work!

On top things you have charged me over $2K for 2 J boxes and a roll of #6 wire, which costs $600 at the most. The piping was already 97% there , so what took you so long.

It took a qualified electrician a total of 8 hours to remove the faulty work and install everything from scratch including installing the transformer.

We'll happily accept a refund to settle this matter

We had several projects that we've been putting off for a while. We needed to move an outlet to a different wall, we had a switch in the bedroom that didn't work, needed to add lighting and add an outlet for a mounted TV. Jose was very quick to respond to me, provided a quote before he came so I knew what to expect, and was flexible when I wanted to add on tasks when they arrived. They fixed up our walls afterwards and worked very hard to keep things easy for us to paint. They were also very conscious to social distance when they came. I highly recommend their work, so glad that we got these items done finally!

Had an awesome experience with Jake. I got into some trouble trying to swap out a light fixture and created a bit of a wiring mess for myself that he was able to skillfully clean up. He was able to go pop out and buy a replacement light fixture that would fit my junction box and install that too. While he was at my house he added a plug to a closet that we had been wanting installed since we moved in. Super efficient work, very pleasant interactions, reasonable pricing- I will definitely be calling Jake up again for future work.

These guys did a fantastic job moving two electrical outlets and converting my condo HVAC unit to two Nest thermostats. I was really impressed with the speed at which they responded to my call and the almost instantaneous quote. Even when the project took more time than expected they stuck with the quoted price. They were also very courteous and were able to come do the work within a week of my initial call. Overall I would highly recommend Blacklight and I'll call them back if I need more work done in the future.

Great people and great work!   I had a kind of emergency situation to replace the 50 year old electrical service in my 101 year old Oak Park house - new panel plus outside work - at the end of January 2016.  I am so glad I found Kinetic!  Ted is very fair and honest and the crew is wonderful.  They even liked my piano playing :)   Highly recommended.

A++ in all aspects. I had great pleasure to hire Tom's company for our house project. The project included multiple rooms. Complete Bath and kitchen electrical renovation. Two bathrooms received outlets, switches, can lights and fans. The kitchen received  new can lights and outlets. Living room got new can lights. We also added wired smoke detectors throughout the house. Tom was a total professional when he came in for the estimate. Everything was explained so that there were no surprises any time during the project and he made sure that we understood the work that was going to take place. Prices were very competitive, and work was done in the time promised. Tom made sure that everything was done right, to code and left everything clean and spotless. I would definitely hire again. Highly recommended.

Alex responded to my posting quickly, was clear on costs, and came out at 8am the following day as promised. I gave wrong information on parts and he was ready with solutions to salvage the job and gave great advice. Would definitely hire again.

While I did not get to the point of using their services I did get to schedule an appointment.  I experience a quick response from them.  That is why I gave them a three star

However, I was told by Fixer today, after I had already scheduled my appointment, that they are currently not servicing 60623.  It would be good if they updated the map because their map service area completely includes 60623.  

I was really looking forward to their work.
