To say we had a wonderful experience with Blacklite Electric would be an understatement. Neville is everything you could hope for in an electrician: talented, easy to work with, reasonably priced and very friendly.
We had a difficult time getting quotes from other vendors, but Neville responded right away with a comprehensive text including his reasonable fee structure and details for scheduling, which was done easily via text.
What separates Neville from other electricians is rather than simply addressing whatever single issue you're having, Neville takes more of a systems approach to your home. We called concerning a single fuse we thought was overloaded, and came to find out the whole house was wired to only about three or four separate fuses (we could already tell the house wasn't wired very well from when we'd replaced a few light switches).
Neville essentially re-plumbed portions of our home, properly distributing the various loads on the fuses based on location and usage, while also upgrading a lot of wiring. None of this was an upsell, on the contrary, most of it was work we'd already suspected needed to be done before his diagnosis. All the work that was done was discussed and explained up front, with estimations for how every many hours each would take.
We haven't blown a fuse since anywhere in the house and take comfort in knowing our electrical system is Neville approved.

Neville was great. He was able to figure out an issue that a previous electrician could not in an older home with some funky wiring. Professional, knowledgable, and personable...nothing but good things to say. Will definitely be calling him for all of my future electrical needs.

Neville is truly a one-of-a-kind electrician. He's humble, transparent, responsive, and efficient with his work and approach. A combination of qualities that's so often hard to find.
No job is too big or small. From addressing significant wiring issues in older homes, to replacing faulty outlets, he's the specialist to count on.
Can't recommend him enough!!
Neville has done a few jobs for us over the years. He did work for my friend's mastering studio, and has always got the job done quickly, keeping the costs very reasonable. Work is always tip top, and will give excellent advice. Great guy, highly recommended.
I needed 2 outdoor fixtures installed and 4 outdoor recessed lights replaced (the recessed lights were very high - near the roof line). Neville provided a reasonable estimate, very promptly. (Another highly recommended electrician never even bothered to respond, after 2 chasing emails.). Neville showed up on-time and got the job done on-budget. I especially liked the great communication before he arrived. I knew what to have ready, which saved a lot of headaches. I highly recommend Neville and Blacklite.

Like many of you, I found Blacklite and Neville on Yelp. I double checked his ratings through fakespot. This winter was brutal causing a water pipe to burst so to remedy this I decided to install a garage heater. Most room heaters are just not powerful enough so I opted for a 240V Dr. Heater (electric) which would of course require 1) a 240V outlet and 2) the heater to be hardwired and mounted.
I contacted a few electricians with 4.5+ stars on yelp and heard back from Neville almost immediately. His responses were prompt, professional, and straightforward. Pricing was fair with no additional surprises. I know that many of the more critical reviews lamented that testing was his ideal mode of communication. This is meant to decrease distraction while he is on the job site. Also I assume this obviates the need of a dedicated office secretary which cuts down on staff costs and overhead. I have zero problem with this and actually found it to be way easier.
Scheduling was a breeze. I got exactly the slot I wanted. I was provided with a 3 hour window. Neville asked me for pictures of the circuit breaker panel so he could get all the materials beforehand. He arrived on time with another electrician. Before the job began he surveyed the garage, read the instruction booklet, spoke independently to my neighbor who also had a garage heater. I could tell that he takes pride in his job and great care in both the planning and the execution of these projects. Hiring a stranger to do any task can be stressful, but I was immediately reassured that he was so thoughtful and methodical.
The rest of the project went very smoothly. Project time was exactly how long he expected it to be. He worked efficiently with no breaks in three hours. I appreciated his surgical attention to detail. I am very happy with the work and would wholeheartedly recommend Neville. I love the fact that the work was not subcontracted out and that I worked with the company owner directly. What impressed me the most from the Yelp reviews is not the glowing comments. I respected individual responses to these reviews (good AND bad). It is clear to see that he values feedback and that he takes responsibility when things should have gone better.
Payment transaction was likewise smooth and I received a receipt via email the same evening. You would be in very capable hands with Neville and Blacklite. Look no further!
Had some light fixtures added to my place and they were super quick installing them. Were very responsiveand professional and would definitely use them again.

From the beginning, the scheduling with Blacklite was excellent, the arrival time was right on target, and then when Johnny arrived were were very pleased. Johnny worked in our home installing new outlets, repairing light socket issues and giving us recommendations for minor electrical issues we were having. All the work was done quickly and without any issues and he did answer some additional questions we had for future projects.
Blacklite was very professional and also took all of the COVID-19 precautions very seriously. We appreciate that very much and look forward to working with them again! Thank you for the awesome experience!
They were prompt, gave great service. Worked extra and charged for less. When I had a question the owner, Neville, met me at the job site and walked me through what needed to be done for almost an hour at no charge. I paid him anyway.

I tried installing a garage heater using an existing 240V outlet myself. It wasn't working so I called Neville at Blacklite. He discovered some serious issues in my wiring from my house to my garage. We had to dig up the conduit and find and replace bad wires. I needed the work done by the weekend, and he worked long days to get the job done. I also had him add some outlets and ethernet to my garage, which is really nice. It really felt like he cared about the quality of his work. Highly recommend and will use him again.
I reached out to Blacklite Electric after seeing their positive reviews on yelp. Neville was prompt with his response, came out when promised, and his work quality was phenomenal. Was one of the absolutely best contractor experiences I have ever had. Most important to me, his pricing was upfront and exactly as promised. For any electrical work in the future, Blacklite will be my first point of contact.
Neville and Johnny are the absolute best. I wrote a positive review two years ago...haven't needed any other electric work since, but immediately knew I'd want to work with Blacklite again when a problem arose. I had tried to DIY an electrical project and quickly realized I needed a pro - sent a request in late on a Thursday night, emailed and texted with Neville to confirm on Friday morning, and Johnny was here by Friday afternoon. I love that Neville schedules via text, as I was able to make this all happen during a workday morning.
Johnny quickly installed a fixture, and when I mentioned I wouldn't mind a new outlet on another wall, he made that happen too! I have an old home with old wiring and many quirks, so everything is always extra difficult...but he persevered and got everything taken care of. Throughout the process, just like last time, he was also incredibly kind, warm, and patient with my silly questions. He's a truly fantastic guy. (And he even noticed I had a broken floorboard and gave me advice on a fix...how awesome is that???)
I'd also like to note that he was extremely considerate with COVID precautions - wore a mask the entire time (no small feat in my apartment with no AC!), and cleaned up thoroughly. I was nervous to have someone come into my home given the current situation but he was great and I felt very safe.
Their rates could not be more fair. Worth every penny 10x over for the level of service you get. It sounds dramatic, but working with Blacklite boosts my faith in humanity. You can't beat that!

Neville was great to work with, and is an extremely friendly guy. As others have noted, all communication is via text. Initial texts were a little sporadic, but I believe he was actually at a job. (I can be a little impatient, and that's on me.) However, it was never more than a few hours between texts. And as his scheduled visit got closer, there were definitely more frequent texts. He arrived during his timeslot and got everything done in under an hour.
I wanted an old hardwired light turned into an outlet instead. He had to cut through some drywall to make that happen, and was incredibly clean about that process, even to the point where he insisted that he use our vacuum to clean up after himself. The job took less than an hour, cost exactly what he had estimated, and I would definitely consider him again for any future electrical work around our condo.

Blacklite Electric came out to fix a few outlets in my condo. Neville texted me the price and gave me an estimate of how long it would take. Neville also gave me a discount for being a yelp customer.
Johnny came out during the window that I was given. He fixed three outlets, two which were not properly wired by prior owner, one open neutral and one out was not properly grounded (scary stuff if you google it). Prior owner also had a chandelier which Johnny helped removed, and replaced it with a ceiling fan. In total, I paid for two hours ($265) for everything. Not bad!
Lastly, I noticed one of the outlet would not accept the plug. neville came out that Monday and fixed the outlet, without charge.
Neville is wonderful! This is the second time I have used Neville's services. He came to replace my light switches with new ones I bought. I started it as a DIY project but these new switches were a little larger and were incredibly hard to squeeze in; also the existing wires were very short. Neville is not only extremely capable, but is friendly and open to suggestions on how I would like the setup, even though he clearly knows a ton more about this stuff than I do. He also handled a couple other items for me. The work took longer than anticipated. Neville rounded down the time and charged me less. I trust Neville in performing the job well and in as little time as possible to get the work done right!
Tech was on the early side of the arrival window, completed the work quickly, wore shoe covers and a face mask at all times. Highly recommend and will use again in the future.
Highly recommend this company. Johnny was both professional and most importantly got the job done.
In addition, we called during this outbreak and he wore a mask and gloves, maintained a distance and I also noticed he sprayed the area with disinfectant without me asking him to.

Blacklite is responsive, communicative, priced fairly, and I would recommend them in a second.
I had a smell of burning plastic coming from my ceiling fan in the master bedroom that was so strong I had to turn off the power to the bedroom via circuit-breaker. Naturally, any burning smell coming from something electrical was cause for alarm and I jumped on Yelp to find an electrician.
Blacklite immediately jumped out due to close proximity and positive reviews. I requested a quote on Yelp and called the number to leave a message. To my surprise, Neville (owner) got back to me in less than an hour and this was around 9pm on a weekday, mind you. He said he could have someone out as early as the next day in the afternoon. Due to work I wasn't able to take the afternoon appointment, but Neville was quick to accommodate me and was able to squeeze in an evening appointment.
Johnny was the electrician that showed up and he was polite, professional, and quick to get the work done (which ended up being a necessary replacement of the ceiling fan/lighting unit due to the plastic wiring harness melting).
Blacklite had several payment methods making paying the bill a breeze.
I would definitely use them again.

Neville and his team did a great job repairing an issue we had at our condo in Lakeview. We first reached out over yelp to describe our project, and were able to set up an appointment for the next day. Pricing structure was fair and well communicated, and payment was easy through Venmo.
Overall, we are very satisfied with the work we had done. Blacklite did a great job and we would highly recommend them to anyone looking to have electrical work done.

I had to have a new junction put in, which required cutting into the ceiling. The Blacklite guys came over and did a very nice job and were fast and efficient.
After my excellent painting crew patched and painted the ceiling (see Sefner Painting), Neville from Blacklite came over to install a rather challenging ceiling fixture. He was not going to leave until it was done perfectly!
The final step was installing dimmers. Johnny was happy to go back to the store to get an additional dimmer so I could have a another set of lights done, and also installed a much needed ceiling fan control.
I highly recommend Blacklite Electric. The communication is always easy and the service and quality are fantastic.

I came home to find the power out in several rooms in my house. I flipped circuit breakers and the power main to no avail. I have been looking for electrician for awhile but this time it was urgent. I searched online and found Blacklite Electric. The reviews were good so I called and left a quick voicemail.
I was pleasantly surprised when I immediately received a text from the owner, Neville White, indicating a combination of voice and text was most expeditious way of interacting. I sent a text describing my situation and Neville responded within 6 minutes. We very efficiently exchanged a couple texts where he had a good sense of what the issue was and he allayed my fear of fire/danger. His colleague, Johnny, was at my house the first day and time I was free. This was all VERY efficient and convenient.
I received an appointment reminder the day prior (MUCH appreciated) and Johnny showed up on time and he was knowledgeable of the issue I was having. He quickly diagnosed the situation which required 2 electricians to pull new wire.
Neville and I spoke and confirmed a day and time for them to come. I received a text message reminder the day before which I again appreciated. Johnny and Neville showed up on-time, were very efficient in their work, fixed the issue and importantly (!) told me what I didn't need to have done. How rare is that? They also wore clean shoe covers to protect my white carpets and cleaned up throughly.
Blacklite Electric is efficient, knowledgeable, and professional and I highly recommend them!
Blacklite (Johnny) did an excellent job adding a couple of power outlets into a shelf area around my fireplace. He had to cut a couple of square areas out of my brand new wall, so it made me a little nervous. Johnny was meticulous about how clean he made his cuts and he replaced the drywall very cleanly for a super easy repair job. My drywall guy was very impressed with his work, and so am I. The quote came in very quickly. Communication was excellent. The price was right and Johnny showed up on time. He even helped me pull a couple of HDMI cables from my TV through the wall.
I have no complaints whatsoever. If you need electrical work done, Blacklite is a solid choice.
Johnny did a great job fixing the wiring for a ceiling fixture in our house. He showed up even a bit early, and was prompt and careful about both keeping the house clean and COVID regulations. Pricing was transparent from the beginning, reasonable, and easy to do through Venmo. The whole process was easy to set up and pay -- all done via text with the owner Neville. I will be using them again if we need an electrician!

Neville was very responsive at setting up the appointment, and communicates primarily through text. Johnny and Josh came out to to run a wall track and did a fantastic job. You could tell they took a lot of pride in their work as their were very careful with the apartment and made sure they didn't damage anything.
Both of them are also very knowledgeable and answered all my questions on what else I could do around the apartment. The rate was good compared to other places and the job was completed very efficiently. I'll be using these guys if I need anything else and I'd highly recommend others do the same!
Neville and his team are amazing! I cannot recommend them highly enough. We went through 3 electricians before I found Blacklite online and Neville was the only one who was able to fix our issue. First, we had a problem with our dimmers which caused some of our overhead lights to flicker. They fixed it right away and Neville even stayed longer to help repair the messy job left by the previous electrician.
Next, they installed the Doorbird doorbell system which was a complex process due to our previous system setup and a faulty device that I had received from Doorbird. Neville reached out to the company personally to try to resolve the issue and he kept me in the loop via text throughout the process. I could tell he cared about getting the job done right and I appreciated the extra time he took (off the clock) to make it happen. Get it done right the first time and hire these guys!

Neville & co were super helpful and communicative. They investigated and solved an electrical issue that had been plaguing me for a while and involved trips from other electricians who couldn't solve. Well worth the time and would recommend them to anyone.
I hired Blacklite on behalf of our condo association to repair external lighting on our building. Neville was very communicative over text messages to coordinate the work and Johnny was both friendly and professional on-site. Blacklite repaired our two front lanterns, updating the wiring, and replaced four fixtures in the rear with more modern and efficient units.
The price we paid felt fair and competitive. Importantly, the work was performed with a very quick turnaround. I'd happily hire Blacklite again for either association or personal electrical work.

This is the second time that I've used Blacklite Electric for interior lights installation. I have always appreciated how proactive and responsive people are. Neville is great at figuring out solutions through emails and texts and would suggest parts/lights to get before the work. He did a great job replacing my old Under-cabinet fluorescent light and replace it with more modern and energy friendly LED puck lights. The service he provided is fast and professional and the pricing is well-explained. I would definitely use Blacklite again and recommend them.
Neville was super quick to respond and very clear about cost. Johnny was punctual, reliable, and did a great job. Will definitely continue to use their services in the future!

My husband and I wanted ceiling fans installed in our condo, as well as some work in the shared areas. He reached out to a bunch of electricians and Blacklite was the most thorough and professional that responded, with well thought out responses and a detailed quote.
When Neville came out, he was very courteous, helpful and did the job well and within budget. Overall we felt that we were dealing with someone who knew what they were doing, was easy to communicate with and charged a fair rate.
Had two small electrical tasks. Contacted Neville who responded quickly and agreed to schedule the work the next day. The electrician arrived during the allotted time and performed the work quickly for the agreed fee. Very pleased with the experience.

My wife and I were looking to have an outdoor outlet installed so we could hang some cafe lights on our patio. I found Blacklite & Neville via Yelp, and he quickly got back to me with a fair estimate through text messaging some pictures of the space. Neville was extremely friendly (loved our Dog!) and very easy to work with - he was super flexible when we changed up our approach to the outlet once he showed up. He and his partner finished the work promptly - and even hung the cafe lights for us! We will certainly be calling Neville next time we need any electrical help!!!

I ended up reaching out to Neville and Blacklite again and had a much, much better interaction. He was running a little behind, which happens, but Neville reached out early to give me a heads up.

We remodeled our master bath. Johnny was great and the whole experience was terrific. He even made sure to check out something extra for me after 6 on a Friday!
These guys are the move. Fast efficient and friendly. I hired a handy man service to do electrical and they just stumbled around and left defeated with the job unfinished. Blacklite is a pro service. They care in and had zero issues, knew what they were doing and did an incredible job.

These guys are incredibly professional and responsive and did an awesome job with some smaller projects for me (replacing and repairing outlets). Neville is easy to work with and his team completed the work quickly.
The crew was knowledgeable and offered us useful advice as they went about the job. After they opened up one of our ceiling fixtures, it stopped working the next day and Neville had his guys out immediately to take care of it. I highly recommend them.

We found Blacklite Electric on yelp when we were in need of an emergency outdoor outlet repair/replacement. They were the very responsive and the repair was scheduled and completed quickly. They were upfront about pricing and the job was accurately quoted.

Bumping this review into 2017. Today was the third time that I used Blacklite and, as always, the job was done perfectly. Bonus points for keeping me updated on the schedule and having reasonable rates. Today, they replaced a bad switch, installed two pendants and a ceiling fixture. The pendants and the fixture are in the pictures, as well as track lights that Blacklite previously installed. They were efficient and cleaned up after themselves. They are also genuinely nice guys so it's a pleasure to work with them.

These guys are as good as you will ever find:
-Extremely professional and Knowledgeable on EVERYTHING
-Fairly Priced, and everything was calculated in a message and broken down by line item owed so no awkward negotiation
-Exceptional work
-They explained the work to be done and what the codes were and never
-They worked efficiently and NEVER cut corners
We had the guys install:
-A receptacle for a chandelier that needed to be drawn from canned lighting and switched installed on the door and then they hung an oversize chandelier that looks fantastic
-They grounded our power supply to the garage which wasn't properly completed and it look great
-They fixed multiple outlets and added GFCI outage protector on one
-Installed a new outlet from by pulling from another power supply

I needed some coaxial cable installed in my condo via a unique, hard-to-get-to entrance point. Blacklite was very responsive at nailing down a fair quote and timing. They sent Johnny to do the job for me. It was an exceptional experience. He suggested some ideas that made it more aesthetically pleasing which I had not thought of. He was very meticulous not only making sure that the wiring worked, but that it looked great as well.
An additional plus was the confirmation emails and texts on the planning out of the project. It's nice to know that plans are still in effect shortly before the job date. Blacklite is now my go-to operation for electrical needs.
I just had Blacklite Electric come to my home to service an outlet that needed rewiring. The technician (Johnny!) was polite, professional, and extremely skilled. The initial estimate of the job was 2-4 hours, and Johnny completed it in just over an hour. Well done and thank you! Highly recommended and fairly priced!
Recommended by another tradesman we contracted with for roofing and Blacklite Electric lived up to his recommendation. Our service rep was on time, cordial and efficient with his time. He cleaned up and left the room as if he had never been there. Pricing was up front and on point. This is our electrician for the future. Outstanding company.
Nevill responded to my voicemail very quick and texted back (his only bad reviews on here are because of his preference for texting but I prefer texting so this was ideal for me, and honestly people need to realize this is a form of communication now). He chatted back and forth with me to help figure out what we needed done and quoted me the cost (he offered to let me help if I was handy to save money, instead of bringing a second worker to do the job, I took him up on this). We had had issues getting a different electrician out a few days prior, but Neville was able to come at the last minute today when we only texted last night. It was great!
When he got here he was professional and very friendly. We chatted while he worked and he showed me everything he was doing while I helped with some of the basic work (I like learning this sort of stuff). He quickly isolated what we needed to get done and had the work done in an hour (installing new outlets for a washer/dryer including the breaker and running the wires).
I would definitely recommend him to anyone looking to get work done. He is friendly, professional, and has good prices (cheaper than the other guy that never showed up). If I ever need electrical work done he will be the first one I call.
They did a good job but didn't get 5 stars because i based the total cost around the prices i was given for 1 electrician and when 2 showed up that totally busted my budget. My husband was on hand the entire time and is VERY handy so felt this could have been done with him and 1 electrician but ultimately the ceiling fans and new island light were installed and are solid.

Had a really great experience with this company. Agree with the below reviews that if you are not a fan of doing business by text, this may not be for you. Personally, I love it and it made the experience easier.
Electrician was on time, got thte job done and came in under budget. Work looks great and I will certainly use this company again in the future.
Neville's crew did an amazing job with two major projects I had.
First project was to install outlets near the toilets in two bathrooms (to allow for the use of Toto Washlets). This required entirely new wiring and attaching to existing electrical runs. Did a great job with minimal impact to the small patch of drywall that needed to be removed to get to the existing wiring.
Second project was to install cable runs to hide wires for a wall mounted TV.
Both of these projects went great, took less time than expected, and were priced at a very fair rate. Would highly recommend!
I had Blacklite Electric replace a couple of light fixtures. They moved a couple of outlets above my fireplace and installed lights under my kitchen cabinets.
They were on time, professional and quick. I will definitely work with them again if I need any electrical work done.
Text message communication is a bonus.
Several observations:
While Neville's employee, Johnny, is usually a pleasant and bright worker, when I pointed out that the light on the fan he installed was not attached properly on one side and was hanging down a bit, he gave me a challenging sort of look. i didn't react to the look, and later saw that he had corrected it without comment, so thanked him. But he was silent on the subject from start to finish and I got the feeling Johnny likes to think of himself a benefactor and not simply an electrician capable of human error.
Neville had the same attitude. He put in, without asking, slider controls for two overhead living room fans, which I have been told by previous electricians can cause a hum. No big deal but we had a loud hum in each fan so I asked for the sliders to be removed. Johnny took them out and the hum was significantly reduced, but again he was pretty much silent throughout. Any further discussion of the remaining hum was greeted coldly.
When my daughter went directly to Neville to try to discuss the fans a bit more, (texting him of course), he answered crisply, 'Your fans are under warranty, go to the company if you want the hum gone.' She didn't say it, but actually, no, Neville, they are no longer under warranty as your actions in putting in sliders violated the warranty and left us with no warranty.
We did call them again a few months later, but after Neville took our text and promised to call back he never did. So now we have no option to use them anyway because they fired us.
I sent these guys a message through yelp for a household repair request, and the owner Neville was extremely detailed and fast with his responses. He helped me diagnose my situation, explained their fees and procedures and ended up recommending I just get a handyman since I would be saving money since my project didn't necessarily need an electrician. I appreciate the honesty and he even told me to look into something before I hire the handyman, just dealing with the owner through yelp messaging I can see why there are so many 5 star reviews, they go above and beyond and will not attempt to overcharge or waste your time unless they can help. Honest service technicians are very rare and much appreciated since often time the consumer can be confused or ignorant. Thank you Neville, I won't hesitate you inquire again when and if I do need an expert electrician!
Blacklite Electricians are awesome!!! We will not use anyone else. We used their services 2 times and both times, they were on time, professional, friendly and completed their work as they promised.
First experience was with Johnny. Very nice and friendly. He even educates while he does his work. Had a nice conversation throughout listening to some of his stories.
Second time, requested for Johnny but he was unable to make it, so Neville came over. Not only did he install Nest, fix switches, take care of some non-working outlets but also installed a garbage disposable including the plumbing aspects! WoW! that's not his expertise and he was clear about it but he figured out everything as to how it works quickly and helped install a new garbage disposal. It was messy but he did not mind! He educated us on how to fix certain things as well. It took an hour and half to complete the work but he charged us only for 1 hour. He also gave us the new customer discount a second time.
We will praise him for using text only as well. He was prompt in responding to our request both times. Set up schedule, sent us the amount we owed all through text and it works well!
Highly recommend for great, professional service at affordable price!

These guys are fantastic! We had a relatively straightforward electrical project but I am both clumsy and less than handy, which seems to be the perfect formula for electrocution. Luckily, Neville responded to my phone call looking for a quote within 15 minutes. Sent a couple pictures of the light we needed installed and the location, and he gave me a quote and availability right away. Easy, polite, wonderful.
Neville stayed in touch throughout the day with text updates on when our electrician, Johnny, would arrive. He was right on time, courteous, friendly, and a great technician. He patiently dealt with my requests to see the light at various cord lengths, and finished the project in no more than ten minutes. Apparently the bulb I purchased was not compatible with the dimmer switch for the light, and he quickly diagnosed and fixed the problem.
Johnny's a great guy and a great electrician, and Neville was responsive, polite, and professional throughout the whole process. I would highly highly recommend these guys for any home project. I will definitely hire them again.

I emailed Blacklight on Sunday and received a clear description of hourly rates and expenses. After agreeing, Johnny was scheduled to come on Monday afternoon. He was great, explained what additional materials were needed to install a light fixture on an exposed wood ceiling, and got that and another project done in a few hours. He was careful in his work and very neat, and friendly to our cats. Great service and transparent pricing at the end of the project.

We've contacted the right person to install our chandelier and he really did a great job with it. Navel is a true professional! He even gave us a box that didn't come with the light fixtures that we bought at no added cost. Plus, the discount of $129 really helped us save money. The lighting fixtures are working perfectly!

Neville came out to replace a bad outlet out on my back porch. He arrived early, which I love. We went down the street together to buy the replacement part, which he let me pay for without any markup, which was also awesome. Then he did the installation quickly and professionally.
Good guy, no problems whatsoever. Some people on here have complained about texting being his preferred method of communication, but I quite like that. I could see how if you are having an emergency maybe its not ideal, but I was relaxed about it so it worked out great for me.
I'll be using him in the future, and you should too.

Neville and I exchanged no less than a dozen emails over the course of two months while my wife and I tried to decide on lights over our kitchen island. He checked out a ton of different links I sent him, asking the right questions to save us from potential problems and helping us understand our options.

I found Blacklite Electric on Yelp while looking for an electrician to help install dimmers in a new condo in the West Loop. Called and spoke with Neville who gave me an estimate and came promptly the next day. Very friendly and professional - would highly recommend them.
For those of you not in the West Loop or a neighboring borough, he mentioned that he would go city north for residential work.
I was inquiring about a bathroom remodel and Blacklite replied promptly with the services they provide. Thank you.
This guys are awesome! They gave the initial estimate, got the job done earlier than estimated and I was charged less than the amount quoted. They are very professional and polite. They took the time to explain to me exactly what they were planning to do and were happy to answer all of my questions.

I needed an electrician for a small job and everyone I asked for a recommendation had nothing to offer. Apparently a lot of contractors in this business are unreliable or overpriced.
I used Yelp and found Blacklite Electric. I called and the owner answered immediately on a Sunday nonetheless. Within an hour we had met and completed the job.
He was respectful, polite, professional, and he assessed and cleared the problem in no time. And here's the kicker. He charged me only half of his base fee. That's never happened to me before and I couldn't be happier about this situation. He even gave me helpful preventative maintenance advise.
I will recommend them to everyone, I will call them again for bigger jobs, and I give them the highest honor, a five star rating.

What more can I say about these guys. Professional, courteous, thorough and they warranty their work. I had them quote out a $20k job with fixtures and not only did they complete it early, they also managed to save me quite a bit under budget. I also had them do some stuff around my condo and they also did great work. I highly recommend them for any project big or small.

These guys did a fantastic job moving two electrical outlets and converting my condo HVAC unit to two Nest thermostats. I was really impressed with the speed at which they responded to my call and the almost instantaneous quote. Even when the project took more time than expected they stuck with the quoted price. They were also very courteous and were able to come do the work within a week of my initial call. Overall I would highly recommend Blacklight and I'll call them back if I need more work done in the future.

Be aware that this is apparently NOT a licensed electrician. I had Neville all lined up to replace some light fixtures in my condo. Although I had specifically mentioned up front that I would need a copy of the electrician's license so that my building management would allow him to work in my building, he never sent me one. When I reminded him a couple of days before the job, he sent me his business license, which is not the same thing When I pressed further, he said my building requirements were too tough. So no license. Had to cancel the job. I also checked the city website for a list of licensed electricians and neither he nor his firm are listed. See cityofchicago.org/city/e…

Trademen drive me crazy! They get paid as much as a doctor or lawyer yet they: leave you waiting for days, cancel at the last minute, jack up the cost over the estimate, and leave a mess behind for you to clean up.
BUT NOT BLACKLITE! I called Neville (notice we all call him by his first name - I also am on a first name basis with the two excellent electricians who helped, Alex and Johnny) and he promptly got back to me, scheduled a time, provided an estimate, showed up on time, provided excellent advice, did excellent work, and charged me exactly what he quoted even though it took more time than expected.
His quote was $400 less than the other electrician that cancelled on me after I had taken the day off work to meet them.
Great work, and great guys. Stop looking around for an electrician. There is none better than Blacklite.

I used Neville to hard wire sconces in one bedroom and take care of some switches in another room. He provided a 2 hour window when he would start, but realized early in the day he'd be late. While he was about 30 min later than the window he gave me, he let me know very early in the day, and made it clear he'd stay late to finish the work that day if it became an issue. He gave multiple updates to let me know the progress of the earlier job and his ETA. As far as the work goes, he gives you the pricing up front, and he made sure to explain everything before he does it, to make sure you are comfortable with whats being done and to make sure any cutting is done in the place you want. As others mentioned, he communicates through texts, which is really easy. Great work, I'll use him again.
I am amazed at the experience we had with Blacklite. We called on Saturday morning and Neville responded via text within minutes. First, I must admit, I prefer the texting route as I can be much more comprehensive via written word AND if I forgot something, I can reference back to the text. We scheduled for Monday, which was a holiday, but Neville squeezed us in. Our plans changed as he arrived but Neville came with us to the hardware store to get supplies. I cannot think of better service. We had a vision but Neville's vision was even better than we had imagined. It's so nice to have someone who obviously loves his job and gives great input. We are so pleased and plan to call on Blacklite again when we need an electrician.

Worst service experience ever. I called this place today and just got a texy back saying in meeting can't talk....um ok. That's cool.
Texted him saying I needed help fast and that my lights in kitchen and that I read all his amazing reviews on Yelp.com and I was calling him first based on the reviews.
I heard nothing.....this was 2pm.
At 3pm, I asked if he was still in a meeting. Nothing.
I called Mr. Mighty Electric who was helpful and got here reasonably fast...and it's not that I needed someone super fast....a response would be nice.
Anyway, so I texted again at 5:30pm, saying hello? ...nothing until around 6pm where the dude is telling me he can't do a voice call but can just text me and help me troubleshoot. Um...no. If that was what I needed, I have Google and YouTube for that. I called because I needed someone to come here. I guess I was not worth it.

Last Sunday, my wife turned on the kitchen light, and all the lights and electronics in the house started acting like the house was possessed -- flickering, pops, and all the rest. I knew it wasn't good, and looked to trusty Yelp for guidance.
It was a little odd to communicate primarily by text with this business, but hey, its 2015. Johnny came out for what I thought would be a simple circuit breaker replacement. Turns out it was much more complicated than that, involving checking all the outlets to find the electrical short.
After several hours, Neville himself came out and took over the operation. Within an hour, everything was working again. Neville is a pro, and he works hard to find the problem and make you happy. He didn't charge for his time, since he hadn't anticipated working on it. He was upfront about costs, and his costs are very reasonable.
Johnny has come out twice now to help with random issues -- super easy to work with, great ideas, very efficient (and a good listener -- turns out this is really important!). Both times I called, I got a text from Neville right away with all the info I needed to make an appt. They're fast, they stick to their quotes, and I trust what they tell me. I'll definitely use them again and recommend them highly to anyone who needs any kind of electrical work done.
Johnny just left after fixing our chandelier and he was great! As others have said, Neville is very responsive by text and it's great to be able to communicate with him at my convenience throughout my work day. Johnny was on time, knew what he was doing and even went to Home Depot to get the necessary fixture and then came back and installed it. Will definitely use Blacklight again.

Neville, owner of Blacklite, does a tremendous job of communicating (via text, which is fine by me) with regard to gathering project information, setting timelines, expectations, etc. I had him and his team install overhead recessed lighting in three rooms, a fan in one, and lighting under my kitchen counter. They did excellent work! Even after the overhead lighting they installed were defective out of the box (from the lighting manufacturer), they replaced them free of charge several days later...amazing customer service! Lastly, I really got the feeling that Neville was an honest guy and always tried to do what was best for me. I would highly recommend Blacklite for an electrical job and will use them in future should I have a need!
Blacklite? Try BlackLIST. As in, I have blacklisted this firm without ever having communicated with anyone there-- which is the reason for the blackball. I had some electrical issues, I called them, left a detailed message AND followed it up with a text (which is evidently their preferred method of communication), and.. NO ONE called or texted back. No one.
Don't waste your time with this firm- they may not call you back at all.
Great Experience. We set the appointment up with Neville (only through text messages after leaving a voicemail), and it was super easy. Johnny arrived in the time window he said that he would, he was really nice and accommodating. He didn't have a problem with my gigantic dog, and I enjoyed hanging out with him for a couple hours while he corrected a lighting problem and hung a light fixture. The pricing also seemed very reasonable, we'll be using them again in the future!

Neville was very responsive, on time, and did a great job. I will definitely use him again.
Neville was the most expensive estimate out of the three that I got. However I liked his demeanor and professionalism far more than the other two electricians so we came to an agreement on the price and scheduled a date to start. I have a house built in the 50's and needed a lot of new work put in and old work beefed up. Neville was not able to start on the agreed upon date but communicated with me well and started the next day.
It should be noted that at least for my job, Neville just came on the morning of the first day to go over the work and on the last day to check it out. Two other electricians did the actual work. Johnny was great, polite, quiet, and clean. The other electrician was nice and did a good job but lacked some of the professionalism shown by Neville and Johnny. You could describe him as a bull in a china shop. Lucky for us, most of the work was in the attic and unfinished basement, so we didn't have to worry about any damage to our furniture etc.
All in all the work took 3 days and was completed on time and at slightly less than the agreed upon price. I could have got the work done for less, but felt more comfortable with Neville.
I needed some kitchen ceiling lights replaced & contacted this company based on Yelp reviews. Everything was done thru text messages which was fine, I got prompt replies from Neville as well as good recommendations what might be the best lights. So far, so good. Then, while initially they scheduled between 9-11 AM, it became noon, then 1 PM then finally 3 PM with 2 persons. All on the day of work. Now I understand unforeseen problems occur, but we all are busy and reliability is very important to me, & I felt they weren't very responsive to the inconvenience it may cause. Anyway when the electricians finally came, they seemed somewhat disorganized & it took a bit longer than I expected. The work has been done well, I like the lights, but I do feel disappointed in the inadequate way the delay was handled.
These guys know what they're doing, and they do it right.
I was in the incredibly stressful process of moving apartments and had scheduled an appointment with another electrician (Bright Sparks; avoid at all costs) to change out a light fixture from my old place and reinstall it in my new one, but when the time came for my scheduled appointment, the other guys were a total no-show, leaving me scrambling to find another electrician while already coordinating movers, cleaners, etc. I called Blacklite and left a voicemail, to which Neville promptly responded with his signature text message explaining the timing and charges. I know some reviews have complained about this method, but as a fully-functioning millennial I use texting as frequently and effectively as any other form of modern communication, so I find his practice to be pleasantly concise. Within 90 minutes, Neville had sent out his adept (and remarkably friendly) assistant Johnny, who handled the light fixture removal and reinstallation at both locations quickly and efficiently.
It turns out I had actually employed Neville a few years ago for another installation and had forgotten it was the same company, but they gave me the first-time customer discount again anyway. They thoroughly and clearly explained the charges, and even threw in a free light switch to replace one which had been sticking. Not only did these guys save the day and finish the job just in the nick of time before my big move, but they also did it with gusto. I highly recommend Blacklite for any electrical needs you might have, especially after dealing with other less professional servicemen.

I found Neville through another electrician's recommendation (who I also found on Yelp). The reviews for Neville were great, so I called him, sent him our inspector's report for our new house and waited. He got back to me in a timely manner and scheduled an appointment to come and look at our electrical issues. He was very thorough. We walked through the house and he kept track of what the inspector said in the report and what he was finding in the house. He gave me an estimate for the work and set up another appointment to return to start the work.
We worked with Neville for a solid three to four weeks. Neville was always on time or he let me know if he was running late. I found this refreshing, as so many workers nowadays do not even bother to say when they are coming and certainly don't let you know when they are running late. He works through texts most of the time. This does not bother me at all. I find it a nice way to deal with people.
Neville came to do the work with Johnny and they both were respectful and worked extraordinarily hard. There turned out to be A LOT more electrical work in the house than we originally thought (it is an 1894 farmhouse) and Neville's prices were very reasonable. There were many safety issues in this old house and Neville addressed them all, taking care to listen to us and respond with practical and reasonable advice.
He and Johnny are kind, responsible people who genuinely care about their work. I have recommended them to neighbors and friends, alike.
As a side note, I would just also like to point out that I own my house with my sister and the level of respect that Neville and Johnny showed us - as compared to some male workers who came on our property - was really wonderful. This made working with them both to be easy and enjoyable.

When Neville arrived I was impressed by his professionalism and easy demeanor.
We had two problems going on:
(1) The lighting fixture under the kitchen cabinet over the sink--We couldn't get the light to turn on. I thought it may have had something to do with the ballast.
(2) The ceiling fan in the bedroom was not working properly and making clicking sounds. The dome for the light housing was next to impossible to get off if we ever needed to change the bulb.
Now before I get into why you should like this company, I want to point out that we had a contractor who came by to do some work on our unit about two weeks ago. He demonstrated no professionalism; lied about what he did; over-charged for his services and did a half-assed job--leaving one of the two light switches disabled when he left. Also, he gave an assessment of the ceiling fan and said that it would be very expensive. He was scheduled to come back (with parts that he purchased) and take care of the ceiling fan. Unfortunately, people like this never show up on the radar screen on places like Yelp--they are a hole in the wall and generally give the industry a bad name. Realizing that the landlord was going to have this guy come back, I informed the landlord of the shoddy services performed and that he was probably being overcharged--which he was. The landlord started searching for another contractor.
After showing Neville the problem with the kitchen fixture, he had it figured out in less than ten minutes. Problem solved! loose wire. No parts. Very little labor. Smart trouble-shooting.
The ceiling fan was a bit more tricky. The dome had to be unscrewed and required a bit of tenacity as well as finesse. Dome light with a bit of work was removed. Taking apart the fan motor, he was able to trouble-shoot where the clicking was coming from and correct the problem. With the fan being as old as it was it was determined that it should be replaced. But because we rent out the condo, it was fine just the way it was so long as we did not have the fan set to maximum speed. Besides, with fall here and winter approaching we really didn't the fan that much anyway. But since he fixed the problem with the clicking we have used the fan at night for circulation and it is whisper-quite.
At the end of the job, which took less time than I thought, he didn't have to replace anything. No parts to replace--just the labor. Blacklite has probably saved our landlord several hundred, if not thousands of dollars, because Casablanca fans are not cheap.
I know I was probably a bit more detailed in this review than I perhaps needed to be, but I just wanted to compare the services of a contractor that has great customer service skills, professionalism and knows his trade compared to a contractor that doesn't and is only out to get rip a hole in your pocket.
When we move and get our own place, this company is definitely on my list as a keeper. Thanks again Neville for a great job even though I don't own the place.

Honesty Shines Bright
First, let me say that it's obvious from these reviews this business owner prefers more modern (and in this case efficient) ways of communication. I can understand about how frustrating it is to field phone calls, get voicemails, answer emails, (not to mention review and reply to Yelp requests) etc. Personally I appreciate a business that is willing to transcend the ol' phone-tag method to service his clients. It was because of this that I called him as you're never going to get 100% satisfaction from every customer... and if you think that 100% satisfactionlevel really exists? Well, I've got a bridge in Alaska to sell you!
I first called Blacklite today for an estimate. His voicemail mentions that you can text or leave a voice message with your request; I obviously chose to text him back. He replied within 5 min of my request and we corresponded succinctly but efficiently. It turns out my issue wasn't one at all and my misinterpretation of Nat'l codes would have been several hundred dollars worth of work that any contractor could have exploited. I was able to include photos and gave a detailed description and although it was a few text messages back and forth in the end I didn't need an electrician at all. It's rare to find this type of candidness and assistance in a field (i.e.- Home repair and improvement) wrought with hacks and crooks so I'm very impressed with the response and especially the time he took out of his day. At the very least it deserves a kudos but instead I've already passed him name and number along to another friend who could use a bookmark for an honest electrician.

Blacklite Electric is awesome! We have called on Neville and his experienced team to install our cieling fan, hang a drop light and fix the electric wiring in our living room. Each time, we have received great service at a fantastic price! Plus, the team is especially friendly - which is always a plus! My husband and I cannot provide enough kudos to Blacklite!
We were very pleased with Blacklite Electric's service and would recommend this company for any projects (Large or small). Neville was professional, a knowledgeable electrician, arrived on-time, and very polite. We would definitely use them again, if we have any other electrical problems. Below is a list of electrical issues we had and was fixed by Neville in a couple of hours. He also provided an estimate the next day on other issues that was not a priority to fix at the time.
1) Ceiling fan switch not working properly. It would turn on when it wanted to??
2) Wall sconce light fixture. Same issue, it would turn on when it wanted to??

Other comments mention that they like to communicate via text--and that suited me just fine. Had an issue and emailed them at 7am, got a text back by 8:20, and Neville was able to come out that evening. Got the issue fixed up quickly (some confusing wiring inside a ceiling fan hookup) and at a fair rate. Very nice guy and highly recommend!
Very professional and fixed all of my issues within one hour (which saved me money). If you don't mind texting with the owner back and forth troubleshooting then use this service. They were about 45 minutes late but did call to give me a heads up.

There is a whole story to my rating, but I don't feel like writing it. Essentially the tech came and installed a ceiling fan, gave a quote of hours needed for some other jobs, but later the company recanted on the quote by the tech. Maybe a miscommunication, but for sure annoying.

A couple months ago, I needed to have a ceiling fan installed. These guys are exceptional in every aspect of the word. The day of the appointment Neville let me know that the tech that was supposed to do the job was hung up on a prior project. Neville said not to worry as he would be coming out himself to get this taken care of. He showed up shortly after and completed the install. He gave me a great discount and was extremely courteous and efficient. Anytime I am in need of a household job of this nature that I can't do myself, Blacklite Electric will absolutely be the outfit that I call.

I couldn't have asked for a better experience from Neville. It's no wonder he is such highly rated. I recently purchased a condo and found out my AC unit had no power going to it. With the weather being in the mid 80s and muggy recently it was a very unpleasant problem to have. Neville was able to troubleshoot and fix the issue rather quickly and at a very fair price. If you need a very skilled electrician than Neville is the guy to go to.

These guys just did a tv mounting over the fireplace for me. Installed an electric socket and ran hdmi cables through the wall. They did a great job and couldn't have been easier to work with. Highly recommended!
I have used Blacklite Electric two times. Neville has been quick to respond to my texts and has scheduled my jobs without delay. He's an honest guy who is fair with the billing. The guys he sends to the job know what they're doing. All in all, very good service.

On a Saturday morning, I heard a pop sound and my kitchen track lights, island pendant, bathroom and bedroom lights all went out. Tried turning the fuse on/off and that didn't work. I found Blacklite on Yelp and b/c of the great reviews, I called and left a message. He (not sure who I communicated with Neville or another person) promptly sent me a text, like within seconds. We exchanged a few more text messages, where he troubledshooted and solved my problem. We never even spoke! Lights came back on, he never came out to my condo, didn't charge me a dime. In this day, when sadly we are prepared to be scammed, Blacklite is AMAZING. He could have easily come out and billed me a higher weekend rate, but did not. What honesty and integrity. I will reccommend and use Blacklite for all future electrical needs.
No return call. I think in today's day and age, either answer your phone or give customers the courtesy of a call back either way.

My cat had sprayed into an electrical outlet which in turn shorted out all of the outlets in the living room & small kitchen of my condo. When I called to describe the problem, Neville responded he would be able to have two guys (Johnny & Alex) out in about an hour. He then texted me their rates, letting me know immediately that I was eligible for a discount. When they arrived they were friendly, courteous, & professional. Not only were they able to fix my outlet issue but when I asked about a light fixture that had been also giving me issues, they were more than willing to take a look at it and were quickly able to determine the source of the issue. I was very pleased with their polite, prompt, knowledgeable service and would use them again.

Highly recommend. Neville was the gentleman who coordinated everything and came out. He asked a couple good questions over text, quoted me the rate and payment arrangements, came out on time, got the work done, texted me the picture of the result, took payment over Paypal. Managed my expectations well, delivered the results. Very refreshing - especially in he industry where you kind of expect mediocre service, old school thinking and being screwed over a bit. Would use again in a heartbeat.

Nearly all of these reviews are 5 stars for a reason - Neville is efficient, thorough, and fair. Negative reviews are from people who seemingly don't use text messaging as a form of communication. Admittedly it was a little foreign to me to transact via text, but it ended up being efficient. I actually never met Neville in person because he worked on the air conditioning fan of a unit I rent out, and he made the process very easy. He texted a picture and explanation of the issue, had it fixed in less than an hour, and charged my credit card later that day. I didn't have to leave work or really do much of anything because Neville made it easy. I will hire him again.
Really impressed by the service we received. Incredibly friendly, honest and professional. Definitely would use again and highly recommend!

I called Neville this morning (holiday weekend) and he was over here within an hour or two. Very friendly and informative. He gave me some tips on future work I should be able to handle myself. I highly recommend Blacklite Electric!
I called Neville on a Saturday 2 weeks ago when the power went out in my garage & he responded to my call within minutes. He talked me through many steps via text to see if I could fix it myself. To make a long story short it got fixed & there was no need for him to come out. I have been working with electricians for years on my house and a property I own & this is was by far the most helpful & responsive one I have dealt with. I will be using him in the future when I really do have a problem

We would use them again, if we have any other electrical problems. I appreciated that he was able to come out the next day, provided a cost estimate as well as how much time the job would take.
After the fan that Blacklite installed crapped out (Home Depot mysteriously discontinued the fan and won't replace), Blacklite looked to repair it, but it had to be replaced. We received same day service from Dennis. He was efficient, pleasant, and quick. I would never think about another electrician!!

My go to electrician from this point forward. I had a significant issue in my house where all the electricity from the house to the garage had to be redone. All the wiring and piping had to be done from scratch. I had 2 other electricians come out and tell me it was my deck lights that needed to be replaced. Neville was the only one that diagnosed the problem. He did over 9 hours of work with 2-3 men and the total was about 900. He was cheaper than the others and he actually fixed the problem. He is punctual, hard working and completely trustworthy. I wish I had found him earlier in the process. He communicates over text which I find fantastic. He told me the reason he does this is because he is always on jobs. He doesn't want you to be paying him while he is on the phone for 15 mins discussing an issue with another client. Valid point. Neville owns the company and only has 2 people working for him. He takes pride in his work and he gets the job done. I have already recommended him to other people and he just worked on my house yesterday. Thanks again Neville!
It was a little weird that we only communicated through text, but that's actually my preferred method of communicating, so that worked out fine. Due to a small Chicago blizzard, I rescheduled at the last minute, and they were very flexible.
I can't say enough great things about Neville and his company. It's not often you see customer service and honesty in this line of work. We were in a bind a couple Sundays ago and needed an emergency electrician to stop by and see why our power was out, as it wasn't a ComEd issue. Although Neville couldn't stop in for a day or so, he graciously texted me over the course of a day and a half on how to attempt to troubleshoot the problem - he never gave up helping us resolve it. We had 3 other electricians stop in before Neville's crew could make a visit and they all steered us wrong or weren't capable of diagnosing the problem. Not only was Neville's crew on time for our appointment window, but they stayed on site until the job was complete, even at the expense of other customers and their window slots (sorry, and thanks). Neville even gave us a break on the final bill because of the unsuccessful and somewhat terrible experience we had with the other electricians. His prices are fair and reasonable and he will tell you in advance what to expect from a labor and material cost standpoint. We will certainly share Neville's name and Blacklite Electric with folks in the city that need a trusty electrician!

After my husband and I failed miserably at installing a light (and disconnected two other lights in the process), we called Blacklite -- and couldn't be more pleased with the outcome. Neville arrived right on time, fixed our lights, installed two dimmers and figured out the source of another lighting problem within an hour. On top of that, his workmanship was impeccable. So, yes, he lives up to the Yelp hype! Highly recommended.

O.K. , so I see the electrical system as one of life's great mysteries. So, I needed the wizard to help install a new (for me) used kiln. This piece of equipment is no joke. Pulls lots'a juice and gets very, very hot. Pictures of the building going up in smoke or the wares melting into a puddle of glass (I'm a worrier) filled my vision. I called these guys based on some knowledgeable reviews (folks who do not see this skill as magic). As it turns out. just because your paranoid does not mean that you might not be right. The owner, Neville sent out a pretty sharp worker dude who picked up on the fact that the wires did not look quite right. And...they were not. He came out personally and made the right call. Good Job, Performed on time and as promised. Can't ask for more than that. I hate it when my frears are reinforced but, I'm working on it. Just not today, today I'm safe and up and running. Get the right wizard !
