Best Sewer Services in Chicago IL

I live in a condo unit in a mid-rise, and have had a recurring issue with the toilet for the past few years. It leaked around the base, and I had the building maintenance guys come up and fix it a few times. Unbeknownst to me, not only were they not fixing the problem, they were doing things wrong and making the problem much worse (stripping threads, over-tightening to the point of cracking, etc). Finally, I decided to get a real plumber in to look at it.

It's scary enough inviting a complete stranger into your home, but Pat and his apprentice were both very friendly and started working immediately. Pat explained every option I had, showed me the damage that was done, and was able to give exact figures for how much each option would cost.

The worst moment was when he showed me how maintenance had broken a small component in a $380 part, that he couldn't get it out and as a result, I might have to buy a whole new one. He could so easily have taken advantage of me at this point, since I know nothing about plumbing and would never have known the difference. Instead, he went out of his way and drove across town to get the broken part extracted.

Overall, it took him 3 hours to fix the toilet, so the labor charge was more than I had planned (because it took longer than expected - NOT because his rates were bad). He offered a $20 cash discount. I had originally planned on paying in cash but ended up paying part in cash/part by check. He still gave me the cash discount.

It still makes me panic to think how much I could have been overcharged by someone who was less interested in keeping their costs down. Pat was so honest, helpful and informative in what he was doing, and I am sincerely grateful for his service!

Called Rocket Plumbing last month to come in and investigate an issue with sewer smell in my finished basement as well as drain flies hanging around as a result.  They sent a plumber over named Tony who came in and looked around at the drains, garbage disposals, etc.  He recommended that I (as in ME) get a wet/dry vac and suck out the drain.  I told him I don't own a wet/dry vac and that is why I called him.  He said that his vacuum was in the shop and couldn't do it.  He then recommended I pour some bleach down the drain (tried that before I even called him).  He said other than that there was nothing he could do and then charged me $15 for the visit!  It wasn't like he offered to try some things and I turned it down.  I am giving 2 stars instead of 1 mainly because they came same day as I called.

Updating my review to 3 stars, simply because the owner called me back to apologize and discuss the issues.

I had a sewage backup in my basement.
I called in the morning and thankfully they had an opening.  They got to working right away. A responsive and respectable team.  
They explained all the issues and found one I will need to address at some point in the future.
Straightforward group, great results.

They came to our house on time. Did work quickly. Explained everything thoroughly. Price was as quoted. Three weeks later everything still works great!

Very professional! Answered my estimate inquiry lickety-split and upfront with the price. I scheduled with him same day and he was very communicative with the timing and when he'd be here. Ultimately he was unable to complete the job because our drain clog was beyond the length of the hose he had (this has happened to us before though with another plumber - so no fault to him - our building's drain lines are apparently quite lengthy). Nevertheless he didn't even charge us. Great service!

Within less than a minute of submitting a request through Yelp online, Kevin called to tell me that I'm not in his service area -- BUT proceeded to ask me to identify the problem and then gave me proposed solutions, a general quote, and a referral over the phone.  This just doesn't happen typically.  From the high customer service level and in-depth analysis of the problem, I'm convinced from a 5-minute phone call that this is a company to call for your plumbing needs.  Maybe I should move to Park Ridge!

I have to give a detailed review because my experience was absolutely amazing. If you don't want to read the full review but want to know a short version: I HIGHLY recommend MHJSS, not just recommend but HIGHLY!

ok, so here is the fine print:
I've been smelling a sewage smell on my 1st floor, coming from my bathroom for the last few years. It comes and goes and when it goes it leaves long enough for me to forget about it. Just recently it came back and is stronger than ever, so much so that I can smell it moving throughout my home. I have a family plumber I've been using since the '90s and I'm big on small business so as usual I called and got my home rodded. Since purchasing my home in 2014 I get an annual rodding done since I can't watch what my company and children flush down the drain.

Wanting to get a 2nd opinion I googled and came up with Mr. Rooter, sent a message on their website, and set up a date and time for them to come to consult. I took off work since they told me it was a window from 12-3 pm. To make a long story short, I work overnight and was asleep when they called me at 8 am the day of to tell me they would arrive at 12. Since I missed the called they canceled my appointment. I was upset when I woke up at 11 am to get this voicemail. I took to google again, I had no patience nor desire to deal with this (Plus they told me since I lived on the south side I needed to pay $90 extra for the plumber to come south).

Google lead me to MHJSS. I read reviews and called. I can't remember who I spoke with but the guy was professional and gave me confidence that I'd found the right company.

About an hour later, Danny called me to say he was on his way. (Quick appointment, same day, no BS). He arrived on time with his partner Jose. They asked the perfect questions and before I could explain everything, they knew what needed to be done and starting accessing. Danny took his time and explained EVERYTHING so that I could understand all about my plumbing issues. He showed me things I didn't expect to see since my family plumber does frequent work at my home. I was able to get a Hydro Jetting and he immediately told me why we could smell the sewage in the house.

Being a novice to this entire industry, Danny and Jose made sure I knew what was going on, why, and how it can be fixed. They took their time, did things correctly, cleaned up behind themselves, and did so in a professional and safe manner. They worked great as a team and even better as plumbers. I felt like I'd know them personally before today since they were so personable. I wasn't rushed, I wasn't pitched a sales pitch, and I was comfortable with them in my home.

Bigger name companies need to take notes from these guys. I hope nothing about their process changes because from now on I will be using MHJSS for all my plumbing needs and will continue to refer them to everyone I know, as a matter of fact, my neighbor will be using them soon for his multiunit apartment building (I gave him MHJSS phone number, LOL).

Trust-worthy business, very responsive to customers' needs, high quality work, and great value.  

I have an old building.  I noticed the basement dirt ground seemed moist but did not pay much attention.  Then few months back, things got a lot worse.  First, the ground was sinking fast, then the sewer water started gushing out whenever I use water.

I contacted two 5-star popular plumbing services on Yelp.  They looked at the situation and told me that they need to dig down at 3 spots and replaced sewer lines there, but it will take at least 2 days to finish the job, and they cannot start until next week.  They also tried to rot and jet, neither cleared the line.  Frustrated, I searched again on Yelp and found Capitan rooter, and it turned out to be the best choice I made.

Joel was able to provide a quote over the phone based on problem described.  A detailed proposal was sent shortly.  The very next day, Oscar and the crew stopped by and started on the job.  The crew were the most efficient plumbers I met. Oscar immediately identified the main spot of problem, which was different than the spot identified by the other two companies.  I am so glad he made the right call because the other spot did not have the sewer line under the ground at all, which meant if I were to hire those companies, they would have been digging all over my basement.  

Once the crew rotted line clear, camera to locate the issues, each started digging and replacing the broken pieces. They were very careful handling my sewer line as those were made of clay; they replaced the broken pieces with SCH40 and made significant improvements.  They installed a new opening for rotting.  Oscar also replaced an incorrectly installed kitchen drain line.  By the time he reached the broken line, the replacement line was far more than the initial quote covered, but he completed the job anyway because he wanted to be sure that I could have a functioning line on the same day.  After the job was completed, they installed new cement and even cleaned up all the broken pipes, cements, and dust.  I cannot thank the crew enough for their outstanding work, professionalism, care for the customer and their property.  It was a very pleasant experience.

They also gave 5 year warranty on their work, but I am sure it will last much longer than that.  In addition, they also offered 2 free follow-up maintenance rotting.  The company also offer 18-month financing for those who need it.  Did I mention their pricing was better than the 2 other companies I noted?

Overall, I would highly recommend Capitan rooter to anyone with sewerage problems.  They offer the best combination of quality, value, efficiency, and reliability.

Hristo was great! He responded so quickly. He gave a competitive price. He even had to go to his store and come back for a specific part to fix our weird sink problem. He also wore a mask and booties the whole time. Will definitely use ABV plumbing in the future!

Demetri answered my weekend call quickly and came out soon after. Lenny was very professional and cleared my basement drain with no issue. Will definitely work with them again.

We had an issue turning on our pilot light in our hot water heater and A&Y came out that afternoon. It turned out that we were actually doing it wrong (whoops!) but they were super helpful and informative and walked me through the steps of turning it on correctly. I really appreciated how quick they were to come help out and they were incredibly prompt and kind. Thank you!

APEX Plumbing has been our go to plumbing on a variety of projects from rodding work, installing a new gas line for a stove or the latest project was to replace our 75-gallon commercial water tank. They are always responsive, fair pricing and do great work. These are the local guys you want to support.

Jan and his team inspected the sewer lines on our building when we bought it and were very informative. We later hired them to do the sewer rodding and clean out the catch basin.  They were professional and fast

Victor unclogged our toilet the same day I called  and was thoughtful in reviewing ways to prevent it in the future. He was kind, responsive and considerate from the start. Also I had called around to a few other places and Victor has the most competitive pricing. Never felt like I was getting taken. I have put him at the top of my list for any future plumbing needs.

Eric at Drain Works was at my location in 3 hours same day to take a look at a sub pump issue that turned out to be a back flow problem.  He diagnosed, explained my options, got the new part and fixed it.  Extremely personable and they know what they are doing.  Very happy with Eric and Drain Works and will be on my speed dial as its hard to find good honest plumbers....especially in the city!

We have been putting off getting hydro jetting done for a year or two because we just couldn't find a plumber that sounded reliable, affordable, and serviced our area. SO glad our search finally got us to Bert! He was easy to communicate with, professional, thorough, and most of all, super friendly and easy to talk to. He armed us with knowledge (and a product!) to prevent our sewer line from getting severely clogged with roots again and even pointed out that our upstairs toilet was leaking, which we had no idea was happening. 10/10, will be calling him for all our sewer maintenance moving forward. I bought a home last month, and moved in 14 days ago. 2 days ago, I called a big name plumbing company to fix whatever was causing my toilet and shower tub to both be clogged. 24 hours later, after 2 visits and two guys had come and gone, I was in a queue for a 3rd to come out. I called Kevin and canceled the other guys.

Chris was sent and arrived within an hour, and after I told him what I had learned from the other guys, he got to work. He stayed until the sun went down, and with the help of another plumber, Cody, they had everything flowing before they left. They were professional, fast, intelligent, and prepared. What a big name company couldn't fix in 24 hours, these guys finished in under 4, and at a fair price. For a new home owner, this was a hugely stressful experience, which was made so much easier thanks to these guys. They also helped me understand how my new house works, what to look out for, and how to prevent things like these in the future (Even though this issue existed under the radar long before I moved in).
