Stefan was prompt from beginning to end.  He responded in a timely manner to the initial inquiry for quotes on Yelp, and was timely in all follow up communications.  He provided a fixed fee for the work.

He came on-time and rapidly assessed the work to be done (replacing under cabinet lights, replacing wall switch). He also provided an alert on a GFCI wall switch that was likely to fail in the near future.  I happened to have a spare outlet, which he installed for no added cost. - saving me a future trip and inconvenience when the outlet failed.

He worked quickly and cleaned up the countertops (from dust when drilling) when he was finished.  He explained the controls on each fixture, as well as noted that the dimmer switch causes a buzzing sound from the lights (Home Depot told me that this was the correct switch for the lights, turns out it is not - it works fine, there is just that buzzing sound).

Stefan was a pleasure to work with - I recommend his services.

I am absolutely thrilled with the work Darrell's team did for me today.  They removed and replaced 13 light fixtures for me throughout my place. Darrell was super helpful as he helped me figure out what to do in a building that is super old with concrete ceilings. Delvin, Cody, and Graham came today to do the work and they were fast, knowledgeable, friendly and professional.  Will definitely be using Sims & Sons for all of my future electrical work here in Chicago!

Great customer service!  From the time I made the initial call Marianne very friendly and helpful.  She set up an appointment for Marcus to give me a proposal.  Marcus explained the work that would be done.  Rodrigo and Christian completed the job cleaned up and asked if everything was done to my satisfaction.  Do not hesitate to call!  The communication from start to finish was outstanding.  They sure know that customer service goods a long way!

Ted and Tom gave a reasonable estimate based on the scope of work I provided (outlets not working after a DIY mishap). They were able to quickly make the repair and explain the problems found. They also addressed a separate grounding/shared circuit issue they found. The additional charges for the increase in scope/time was very reasonable.

Would recommend them if you have residential electrical wiring issues.

My wife and I are in the middle of a whole bunch of improvement projects right now while we remodel our 1923 house. After getting a few different estimates for electrical work, we ended up hiring Joe to re-do our service (updating an old 60amp fuse box from the 40s to 100amp service with a breaker), update our old ungrounded outlets, and install some fans and light fixtures. The price we got was great for the work he was going to do, and for the quality of the work that he did.

I have to say that of the multiple contractors we've dealt with for various projects over the past 6 months during our remodeling, so far Joe is the only one who, to put it simply, did what he said he was going to do, when he said he was going to do it, for how much he said it would be. No BS, no excuses, and quick to respond to questions we had. If all the contractors we've been working with for other projects were as good to us as Joe was, I'd have a few less gray hairs coming in. Next time we need electrical work done, we know who we'll be calling.

While trying to install a new lighting fixture in the basement of our 1920s home, we encountered some truly baffling issues that, among other things, affected the outlets in our living room upstairs. After trying to troubleshoot the issue every way we knew how, we consulted Yelp to see if there was an electrician nearby who might be able to sort things out for us.

After reading the glowing reviews of Ryan Electrical Power and Lighting, it was an easy decision. Ryan responded to my request almost immediately and was at our home in Oak Park within an hour.

As we expected, our electrical issues weren't exactly straightforward but Ryan took his time to locate and remedy the problem and, in the process, eased our concerns about the safety and longevity of our wiring.

Ryan was extremely professional and courteous (he chatted with my dad and explained everything he was doing every step of the way so we know what to be on the lookout for in the future) and his rates were really fair. (When we inquired about the possibility of installing our new Nest Thermostat, he even recommended that we just call an HVAC professional who would probably charge us less!)

While we hope we don't have any electrical/wiring issues in the near future, we most certainly will call Ryan first if anything comes up!

I had a great experience with Highlights. We needed a new light fixture for our condo building lobby. Kemal traded a few e-mails with me to help me pick the right fixture and Daryl came out the same week to pull out our ancient old fixture and get the new one installed. Steer Clear. This is not a legitimate electrical company. Gave me an estimate and did the electrical work for an EV charger in our condo building. Even though building management didn't request City of Chicago license initially, they checked for it later (it can be asked for at any time) and this company is not licensed in the City of Chicago and its illegal to do residential work without it. The job was done completely wrong and he almost blew the sump pump and electrical to entire building by connecting to a panel inexplicably and was told not to. Installed wiring that was bent and broken and taped together which could have caused shocks and burning. New contractor easily installed it - no bends or breaks. The wall outlet installed was open and exposed, and if water dripped to it could electrocute people. Sloppy, cut corners, dangerous, illegal and not up to code. Absolute garbage, rushed work. Refused to get City of Chicago license and come fix job. We will be pursuing our money back. This is an illegitimate electrical company. Avoid at all costs.

Addendum to review:

Right, I'm not an electrician , but here are couple facts that a real electrician should have known and done, that found out about your job.

You were told by the building engineer to use the 480/277 volt panel because 208/120 was already at the capacity.

You just plainly ignored that and proceeded with your version. Maybe you don't know the difference between two.

You ran 208/ 120 wires through 480/277 panel which was a huge code violation and a human life safety issue.

And that's not all:

Then you spliced those wires inside that panel multiple times -- code violation.

You then decided to use lightning contractor conduit to run the wires and overfill that conduit -- code violation.

You installed the breaker at the wrong panel (which was at capacity) so you overloaded that panel.

The wire was badly scraped

You removed pipe straps and made the electrical conduit loose -- code violation.

J boxes that you installed were unsecured and loose with knock outs missing -- code violation

I'm still waiting on the city of Chicago electrical registration paperwork  from you.

A qualified electrician would know right away that he is working with 480/277 volts and would have informed me that i needed a step down transformer in order for the EV charger to work!

On top things you have charged me over $2K for 2 J boxes and a roll of #6 wire, which costs $600 at the most. The piping was already 97% there , so what took you so long.

It took a qualified electrician a total of 8 hours to remove the faulty work and install everything from scratch including installing the transformer.

We'll happily accept a refund to settle this matter

Overall great experience with Jose the owner.  I am an active duty Solider currently not in the Chicagoland area and Jose was able to assist with a dry wall repair in my ceiling.  He updated me through the process was ok with communication via text and phone.  This process was super easy especially considering I was not present on site.  I highly recommend them.

I hired Jake and Urban Power to add two electrical meters and relocate the circuit breakers out of the garden unit to a common area so all tenants could have access to them at my 3-Flat property.  He is a master of his craft and did a great job providing solutions to the issues I presented and working efficiently on the install and relocation as well as managing the permitting process with Com-Ed.  He has deep experience working with rental properties and gave me some great insights to add value to the property including installing security lighting which I hired him to do as well.  I would highly recommend Jake and Urban Power for any electrical job big or small.

Fast response and great service.  Johnny and Josh fixed my track lighting and living room can light issues in short order.  I'm a fan.

The team at Kinetic Energy has helped us with many projects since we moved into our home in Oak Park.  Kinetic always provides competent, courteous and respectful electricians.  We feel comfortable having them work on our home.  But on Christmas Eve the owner Ted responded to our call that our living room lights were out and we needed some help as we were having guests Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.  Ted came out in less than half an hour and immediately identified and fixed the problem.  We couldn't thank him enough, he said that was his job and he was glad he could fix the problem.  Ted said no problem and wished us a happy holiday.  We would highly recommend Kinetic for all your electrical needs.  You won't be disappointed.

Tom and his crew do such great work! Highly recommend them. They installed 4 outdoor outlets in our yard and also trenched wires underground so they were no longer exposed to the elements. They were on time, flexible, and just care about doing the job right. Tom is a really nice guy who walks you through all the work ahead of time. Don't hesitate to reach out to him!

Very responsive and responsible. Alex tried to help us trouble shoot over the phone to save us money. When that didn't work he showed up promptly, diagnosed the issue, and fixed the bad breaker.

I had a really great experience with Fixer - they are an awesome company. Basically they've incorporated the best of mobile booking service with the best of handyman/repair service.

I had a drywall repair and they showed up right on time. Due to the situation specific to my drywall I had two work sessions. Both time, the fixer that came was really professional, knowledgeable and courteous. The first time, D'Angelo came and worked for an hour. The second time, Ian came and spent about two hours finishing up the job.  They did great work and cleaned up after themselves. I highly recommend them.

The nice thing about their mobile solution is that you can go online and book a specific time that you want. After you submit the booking, you get a text message and you can text back and forth with their main office about your project. They confirm everything with you. Then the night before your appointment at 8:00pm sharp, you receive an automated text with the name of the professional that will be showing up to your job.

If anything arises, you just text back and forth with the main office. This excellent communication channel made everything so much easier.

And after your job is finished, you get a text with a link to review and pay your bill (and add a tip if you like). Completely mobile. Just the way I like it.
