Best Plumbing Services in Boston, MA
A hot summer day had wrecked the capacitor for my air conditioning system and I saw the reviews here so I thought I'd give this local small business a shot. It was a great decision!
Matt was able to schedule an appointment within the next 3 days. Upon his arrival, he quickly got to work, was friendly, and incredibly knowledgeable! He finished the job in under an hour and offered some tips for maintenance.
I'm very happy with the service I got and would highly recommend him if you're looking for local services for your HVAC woes!

I needed a simple repair of changing the spout for my bathtub because the diverter had gone bad. I requested a quote from several plumbers. All responded fairly quick (within an hour) and I had given enough information and pictures so they all knew exactly what was needed.
I received quotes all the way up to 175/hour plus parts to 225 parts included.
Others even wanted to come by and charge me to look at the job to quote me (which they said the fee would be waived if I used them for the job after..but seriously?).
Mark responded to call him and leave him a voicemail explaining I had contacted him via a message and he would call me back. He called back within 10 minutes of me leaving the message and spoke to me on the phone. He thanked me for the detailed pictures and asked if I was handy at all as this was a very simple job and he didnt want me to pay a large sum for such a simple job. He said he would come if I still wanted him to but explained everything I would have to do and where to go get the parts. He even said if I get stuck I can call him to come over.
The part was cheap around 20 dollars and the work involved seems super simple (I watched some videos on youtube on how to do this). I havent fixed it yet as I am waiting for the part but i am confident now thanks to his information and knowing I can call him if I need him to come for the job.
Its hard to find good contractors for work such as this and I am keeping his number for any future jobs.

Two thumbs up. My neighbor gave me Art Carey's number when my toilet wouldn't stop running. Art came the next day, fixed the problem and showed me what had gone wrong.
Prompt, knowledgable service at a fair price. What more could you ask for?

Paul responded super quickly and was able to come over the next day. He fixed our annoying towel rack and replaced the sash cords on three old windows. He did a great job! Highly recommended.

Mike was great! We needed the valves changed on three steam radiators in our apartment. He was extremely quick to respond and talked through all of the details needed before he arrived. Once he was here he was friendly, quick, and thorough, talking through exactly what he was doing. Definitely recommend!

Had a pipe burst and 2 other pipe leaking, badly. They came out while it was snowing heavily. They we're done in about 3 hours. There work was fast and thorough. I will definitely use them again. When you find a good plumber, you don't forget there number. Now if I could only find a good electrician, my life would be complete.

I recently renovated my house by adding bathrooms, and a second floor laundry. Tony and his plumber crews did an outstanding job.
What a great service by professionals. I highly recommend them.

I have used 128 Plumbing for several years. At first they were fantastic. I used them for heating and cooling. They were efficient, prompt, helpful and did great work. Over the last year and a half, they have gone significantly downhill. Their technicians have made mistakes during servicing, they push sales material, their office staff commits to something and then does not follow through, and different office staff has made repeated calls to me about the same item, like they are not communicating internally. I finally had enough and took my business elsewhere.

Very good experience, would definitely call Mike again. Very reasonable, and you can tell Mike has a strong work ethic. Reliable and i liked that he has someone (marylou) answering the phones and helping you to arrange the visit, rather than having to leave a voicemail.

Haven't worked with Mark in years, but I knew him when he was first starting out and he's one of the most honest and conscientious guys I've ever known in the trades.

My basement flooded and I found CRoy Plumbling & Heating on the internet and gave him a call to have a sump pump installed. Chris and his apprentice Max was able to make it out the same day. He told me how to get the water out over the phone so I went to the hardware stores and removed as much water as I could. When he showed up, he helped me clear out some additional water and installed a sump pump for me to keep my basement from flooding. They also dug up a trench for me to direct the discharge away from my house. He walked around my property to see if there were any other issues and told me a ton of information and gave me tips/advice on how to prevent future problems. He's a very knowledgeable guy. His pricing is very fair and his workmanship is very good. I really liked the outcome of my sump pump and drain. I cant believe they managed to do it all in one day. I highly recommend him and I plan on calling him for all future projects or issues.

The condensation pump to my apartment furnace recently went on the fritz and so I contacted I & C Mechanical to get a possible replacement and since I am out of town. I also figured that since I am having someone come, I would also have them service my furnace.
This seemed very straight forward to me. The pump with an issue is a small unit that is located on the side of the furnace. To my knowledge, all that is needed is to unplug the old and plug in the new one. A new pump retails for about $45. If I were at the apartment at this time, I would certainly do it myself.
Anyway, I am totally willing to pay for someone to change the unit and have my furnace checked. I thought this was a pretty easy request, but I was wrong. I & C responded that they would charge $245 for the first hour of the installation of the pump plus the parts. This seemed like a lot to pay for someone to plug something into a wall but I figured that I would at least get someone to check my furnace within that hour - nope they won't do that. To check the furnace they would charge an additional $245 for the first hour.
So what could literally be a 25-minute job, plug in the pump, and check my one-bedroom furnace would cost $490 in labor + plus the parts.
Their pricing is ridiculous and they couldn't clearly explain how it made any sense. Buyer beware, do a little research before you hire someone, and be careful that they don't charge you $245 per task.

I don't j ow who these people think they are but their vans are driving around Boston being insanely aggressive. One just tried to run me off the road. Would never use this business.

Beacon Hill Plumbing provided excellent service to me. I called them with an issue in my one bath condo and they accommodated me and sent someone over within a few hours (important when you have only one bathroom). The plumber was friendly, efficient and patient with my questions. Highly recommend.

I came home on a frigid night in January to find my 50-year old furnace leaking from three sides. I called Papalia Plumbing and Heating after hours to get advice on stabilizing the unit until someone could come out in the morning. After a short but thorough review of my options, I agreed to a full replacement at a fixed cost. Papalia's team of conscientious workers spent the next 12 hours at my house making sure the job was done right in one day. Had it not been for their diligence and quality of work, I might have lost pipes to freezing the next day. Instead of a reputation for being the most expensive, Papalia Plumbing and Heating deserves a reputation for being the absolute best service, well worth a premium price.

I have mixed feeling about GEM.
I have called them three times and used them for repair twice.
First time I called it was for a leak in the bathroom. It was causing a waterspot on the ceiling. They came over and wanted to cut the dry wall open. I thought they would have some little pipe camera unit to check but they did not. I sent them on their way. $99 service fee. No big deal. I ended up doing the repair myself and didn't have to cut the drywall out.
Second time I called was to install a little baseboard heater for the crawl space. It was also to remove an old heater and also to reroute a 120volt outlet. The two electricians that came out were very nice. The cost was $1000 which I thought was fair for a crew of two for 3 hours of work.
Third time I called was to tack a loose shower valve. The drywall needed to be cut out and the shower valve reattached to the stud. I bought an access panel that they installed. It took about 20 minutes and the cost was $550. A bit steep but atleast I didn't have to do it.
I called them to ask about a wax ring replacement for a toilet. They told me 555+99 service fee. Now that's crazy. That is nearly triple most plumbers are charging.
I called Woods Rooter and they did it for $200.
So yes GEM is expensive. They are easy to contact and responsive but is that worth 2 or 3 times more? I don't think so.
