Best Businesses in San Antonio, TX
To be honest the last thing I want to do is write this review, but the reason I am doing it is so that others can hopefully learn from my mistakes and maybe have a chance at avoiding them. I contacted this business, among 4 others, to get a quote to install an irrigation system in my home (front & back yards). The quoted price was fair and although he wasn't the most expensive, he certainly wasn't the cheapest. I ended up going with him because the few initial interactions with him were quite pleasant and he told me he could do the job right away.
My problem with the job didn't start until the actual job was supposedly completed. It took an entire day just like I had been told. Initially I had been pleased to learn it would take only a full day to complete the job since I was anxious to get it done. In hindsight I should have been more focused on making sure it was done to my expectations, even if it meant taking a longer amount of time to complete it. When the job was done and before the team left my house, I spoke the team lead regarding the location of the main irrigation control box. This box is quite large and it had been installed in the exact center of my front yard. It wasn't to an edge of either side of my house or in a corner somewhere, it simply was in my opinion in the most inconvenient place they could have put it. Picture a square sized front grass area in front of the main window and door of a home and now picture a very large control box in the very center of it. Which is why, before the team left that day, I asked for it to be moved. The team lead looked me in the eye and told that it could not be move. They left quickly after that even though I was clearly not happy about the job. I figured I would get a chance to express my dissatisfaction with the owner when he would inevitably contact me to check on my satisfaction of the job that had just been completed. He never came to my house that night or call to talk to me about the job. Instead, I received a text with a web link to his Yelp business account for my review. I actually didn't write a review that night. Mostly because I didn't consider the job done, but also because I didn't want my emotions to be reflected in my review. I did however text him back two days later and asked him to contact me when he had a chance to discuss a concern I had about the job. He called me back a few minutes later and said he would let me know when could stop by my house.
It was over a week later when I met him at my house. I got right to the point, I wanted the main box to be moved to a different location, any location, in my yard that wasn't in the dead center. He said I should have said something the day the team was at the house doing the job, to which I replied I had and that his team lead had told me it couldn't be moved. He sounded incredulous at first, but then told me they probably just wanted to go home which is why the lead had lied. He said obviously the box can be moved, but then started to talk / think aloud for the next couple of minutes that it might not be easy and he wasn't sure how to do it yet, etc. It was at that exact point I mentioned I talked another irrigation licensed company in town and gotten a second opinion on the matter. I told him they had confirm to me that in fact the box can be moved. They had also explained it's common business practice to not place it in as obvious of a spot as mine had been. They asked me if he backed up his work, to which I replied he did. They recommended I try to fix it with him since the job had a warranty. At the end of the conversation, he finally agreed to fix it. However, he said his guys didn't work for free and that it would cost me additional money. Work for free ... those words stuck with me because I paid a significant amount of money to get the job done to my satisfaction. I certainly at no point asked for discounts or favors. I simply paid on time a very fair market value for the services I wanted done at my house. The main box was finally moved yesterday, and I seriously wish I could say my last exchange with him was pleasant for me, sadly it was not, but at least my interactions with this business are finally over.
All of this leads me to the main reason I am writing this review at all. If you, like me, are seriously considering the same kind of services for your home with this business, then listen up. Make sure you get everything in clear writing and both sides agree on what exactly will be done, down to the smallest detail. Do NOT assume, like I did, that it will be done right. Please use my naiveness and mistakes to avoid yourself some unwanted stress and save yourself some serious cash by having a clear contract. Or at the very least, a strong common verbal agreement on what you want done. But above all, if you want something to be done a certain way and you are willing to pay to do it, then don't let anyone try to convince you into accepting anything less than what you wanted.

H&S Backflow is incredibly responsive and efficient. Mike came out diagnosed the problem and was able to repair my pool backflow issue the very next day. Will definitely be using them again for any of my future needs!
San Antonio, TX
Cris is so knowledgeable and incredibly responsive! We needed 2 toilets in our home replaced. He was courteous and timely. He was even explaining what he was doing every step of the way to my inquisitive father. If you want the job done right for a great price, he's your guy! Very kind and professional. Amazing work!

We contracted for this company through Lowe's for a toilet installation. They did a superb job, removing the old toilet and installing the new toilet in record time. They were very careful to ensure that no mess was made and they hauled off the old toilet as well as the box from the new toilet. This is a first class operation. They are not happy until the customer is happy.

I had a leaking sprinkler issue late in the evening tonight and didn't know who to call. I'm so Thankful I found Premier Works and Mr. Chavez! Even though late in the evening he answered right away and took the time to help me troubleshoot and give me a fix to my problem! I will definitely be calling on him for my future needs! So professional and willing to help, Thank You!

So glad to find Austex Sprinklers. Alex, the owner, came to do the annual maintenance check on our sprinkler system. Called 20 mins before the appt time (8am), got here on time and took more than an hour to patiently answer all our questions and go over every details. We're meticulous about details (asking about each head..) and Alex professionally dealt with all. Fixing up a couple of minor issues was included in the maintenance fee and he adjusted/shut off some of the heads as we requested. He also showed us how to adjust/control heads and even called up a lawn guy to discuss our lawn issue. We'll have him come back to fix up broken heads and have him come back every year for an annual check-up. Highly recommend his service and highly recommend getting your sprinkler system checked up every year before something goes very wrong!

Good plumbers are hard to find! I knew exactly what the issue was, and of the 12 plumbers I called, only 3 were willing to give me prices over the phone. Atlas offered the best price and was able to come out the very next morning. A different company came out to offer a free estimate, but wanted to charge me $688 for a bandaid fix with other package options increasing in price up to $2500. Atlas plumbing did the job for $265. They were prompt, professional, courteous, and honest. They did a GREAT job, and they did it fairly and well. I recommend them to everyone!

We are doing a re-model of a home in Canyon Lake and hired Clint DIxon as our plumber. For the first few months, he was relatively reliable, and we paid him as per his fee schedule. In early November, he informed us that we needed a sump pump for our septic to function properly. He asked us to pay him in advance $600 for the cost of the pump and $160 for installation of the pump. Within 15 minutes of leaving our home he cashed our check and has been ignoring our phone calls ever since.
When we called him from another phone number (so he did not know it was us) he informed us that he had spent the money and could not purchase the pump but that he would buy it with money that his father gave him at Christmas, and would install it on Dec. 27th. Needless to say, he did not, and continued to ignore our phone calls until we threatened him with legal action. He then purchased the pump (according to the store, the cost of the pump is $400, not $600) and left it in our yard. He now owes us $200 for the pump, and $160 for advance payment on his labor.
We are now in the process of hiring another plumber to install the pump. Clint has once again disappeared and is not accepting any of our phone calls. I would NOT recommend him as a plumber to anyone, any time.

Some of the good things about Mr. Plumber: they have a receptionist who will answer phone calls during business hours, and they offer professional and fast service visits. When I called on Friday morning, they said they could send a plumber out the very same day. I scheduled the appointment for Tuesday morning, and they sent a reminder call about an hour before, just as promised.
At the appointment, the plumber arrived on time and was knowledgeable. Instead of a leaky pipe, he said I have a leaky faucet that needs to be replaced. That was OK with me, but unfortunately, the plumber quoted $575 to replace the faucet. I thought that was too much, since faucets costs between $100 and $180 at Lowe's. For a simple thing like switching out a kitchen faucet, I would expect not to pay more than $200 for the labor.
So I opted to cut my losses and pay the $65 for the Mr. Plumber visit. That's their charge for going out there, when you JUST SAY NO to their services.
Thankfully there was some good timing ... right after I got the bad news from Mr. Plumber, Mike's Plumbing Service called me back, and he said he would install the new faucet for $165. After that, I bought a faucet for $99 + tax ($108) from Lowe's.
The other option I had was to buy the faucet from Lowe's on Callaghan Road, and they charge a $99 installation fee for faucet installation. I think they contract it out because you have to come in to the store and sign a contract for the plumbing installation. I went with Mike's Plumbing Service, even though it cost a bit more, because I'm out of town and unavailable to sign the Lowe's contract. And I wanted the leak fixed sooner rather than later. If I had been in town, I probably would have gone with Lowe's installation for $99 instead of Mike's price of $165.
So now I'm at $65 for Mr. Plumber, $108 for the new faucet, and $165 for Mike's Plumbing Service. That's a total of $338 to replace that leaky faucet.
Although that's a lot of money ... it's considerably cheaper than than the $575 quoted by Mr. Plumber. Whew!
Faucet I'm getting (cheap plastic parts, but made in the USA?)
$99 at Lowe's.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. We used Franco on a recommendation and the entire process has been a joke. We had a leak in the shower faucet he said he fixed it for $500 only to be told that the entire shower and bath tub area needed to be ripped out because the leak was in the shower wall. No credit for the $500 already paid. The walls and bath tub were ripped out and we were left for 4 days with an exposed moldy wet mess, he had a church retreat to go to, that should have been our first clue that the project was going to go sour. Then, after asking and asking for a written estimate, 2 weeks later, he wrote one because we refused to give him any money. Now, 2 months later we are still trying to get Mr. Franco to complete the project. We are not paying him the balance of $3362 until the project is complete. He blames every problem or delay on someone else. This is his business. Days go by with no work done only empty excuses. Now, he tells us that he is retired, retired? then why start the project??? As of tomorrow he is going on vacation and sending his Pastor to complete the project. That says a lot right there. If you read a positive review on this company it was probably written by him or one of his family members.

If I could give zero stars, I would. Through Fidelity, my home warranty company, this company has been dispatched to my house on three separate occasions. Twice was for AC issues and once for a water heater, every single occasion was a DISASTER. The men that came out were accommodating but were always late, left huge messes and did not have adequate/correct equipment. This last experience was the absolute worse. My AC went out in triple digit heat, they were scheduled to come out on July 1st, 2020 to look at the unit and make their recommendation. Of course they were late not showing till nine that evening. We need a whole new unit, they gave their word the recommendation would be in to Fidelity the next MORNING to assure the process (Fidelity approving the recommendation, ordering the parts and replacing the unit) would happen in a timely manner. The next day (Thursday the 2nd) I waited till two in the afternoon to check with Fidelity, the recommendation had not been submitted as promised. They called Champion and Trophy AC three way with me on the phone, they told assured both Fidelity rep and myself that the recommendation would be done by the end of the day. Already frustrated because they did not do what they said they would and cost me an entire day int he process of fixing my AC in TRIPLE DIGIT HEAT. I took them at their word for the second time and did not bother following up the next day, Friday, because they had assured both Fidelity and I that it would happen... guess what DID NOT HAPPEN!! Monday I followed up to see where in the process we were, Fidelity STILL had not received the recommendation!!! The short version..recommendation was received Tuesday the 7th, almost an entire WEEK after promised. Wrong part was sent by Fidelity (between these two companies, ugh! DUMB and DUMBER!) by the time the correct part was ordered, Tuesday the 14th, Champion told me they could be there SATURDAY the 18th, that was the best they could do. ZERO sense of urgency even though their negligence had cost my family to suffer with NO AC in TRIPLE DIGIT heat. For weeks UNNECESSARILY!! I told their scheduling person secretary that was unacceptable and I needed to speak with someone else, someone who cared about the reputation of this company and could make thing happen. She retorted that was the best they could do and her boss was already gone she would have them call me the following day (Never happened) I will admit that I went Karen on her at the same time assuring her it was not a personal attack but the amount of frustration at this point was EPIC and the fact that this company showed NO urgency or accountability was mind blowing!!! Instead of a call from anyone with any culpability in the Champion and Trophy AC and Plumbing or its reputation, they called Fidelity and cancelled the contract stating we were unhinged. Again....MIND BLOWN!! I have no idea, looking at other reviews, how this company is still in business. If we ran our business like this we would not be. WORST costumer service EVER!! DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!!!

This guy had his assistant work a total of 1 hour 10 minutes and charged me for 2.5 hours at $87.50 per hour ONLY for the labor. When I asked about the charges he said that he is master plumber not a handyman that is why he charged that much. He said that even though they didn't work the full 2.5 hours he was charging for driving from his office which is 10 minutes from my house. So according to him it took them 2.5 hours just to change the washers and seats from the shower handles. You want to hire this guy? go ahead, his number is up there.

My neighbor had used Roto-Rooter years ago for the exact plumbing problem I was having, and she didnt have problems. So I scheduled service online. I was very detailed from the start, explaining that I live in a Manufactured Home that is 20+yrs old. That I have a waste water line clogged and its causing waste water to back up into the shower and toilet etc. I put in the wrong area code for my contact number, and did not realize this until no one showed during the scheduled time. I called the company and the woman said they had been trying to reach me, and that they could still make it that day. They would be here within 2 hours. They never showed. Since I initially screwed up, I decided to reschedule the appointment. The techs arrived on time and were very friendly and informative. The price I was quoted was $450 to unclogged my line. Ouch! I agreed and they went to work. After about n hour and a half of what sounded like the flooring in my home was being ripped apart, they informed me that I would need to have a Clean Out installed because my line makes a left turn to head to the main line and the Snake could not make that same turn. All homes have them normally. I asked what that would cost and they called their supervisor and they quoted me a price of $1300-$1500. I decided to shop around. They explained that once I got the Clean Out installed I could just give them a call back and they would come clear my line. They did not charge me for their time and effort, which I thought was cool.
I got the Clean Out installed for $500, and my friend who installed it informed me that I had a new leak. He said it was where 2 pvc pipes are joined. The leak was not there prior to Roto-Rooter. I made a note to point it out to the techs when they arrived. On Tuesday I scheduled service for Wednesday mid-day.
In my request I stated I had gotten the Clean Out installed and needed them to come back and unclog my line.
The tech that arrived was not one that had been to my home on the first service call. After getting him up to date on what had transpired with my clogged line, he informed me that Roto-Rooter does not service mobile homes. I told him they did a few days ago. He said he couldn't assist me and left. I called the company and was told by the female on the other end that Roto-Rooter does not make service calls to mobile homes. I told her that her techs were not a figment of my imagination. She basically hung up on me.
I was upfront from the beginning about this being a mobile home. How did they come up with the $450 they were gonna charge me to clear my line? Did I really need the Clean Out put in? Or was that a scam to try and get me to fork over that kind of money? What about the leak they caused?
My advice based on my experience is this, dont call or use this company.

Did they get the job done? Yes. Was the pricing fair? NOT AT ALL. I would have said no to them doing the work if I didn't need the repair to turn my water back on and had time to get anyone else. $105 per hour and the time starts from the moment they leave their office to get to you. It's 7 miles from my house and it took them 40 minutes to get there (no traffic). Instead of the repair I needed, I opted for them to just put a cap on the PVC pipe so I can reopen the water without it spilling in my yard. He was quoting me some 3 to 5 hours worth of work for something I know takes less than an hour. I have done the repair myself before but could not do it this time because my dogs broke the pipe to where the repair had to be done under the crawl space in the house. I live alone with a special needs child I cannot leave alone in the house, otherwise, I would have done it myself. The total cost to do it myself would have been maybe $30, with all materials and tools needed for what he did. He charged me $31.50 for a PVC cap that is worth less than $1, and for using PVC glue and primer that he clearly already had open from doing normal jobs. Charged me 2 full hours when he was only there 1 1/2 (of which 40 minutes were spent driving from the office to my house). Total $240 to install a cap on my PVC pipe so I can turn my water back on.
Don't get me wrong, they did the job right, the plumber was very nice and professional, but being they were local, I thought their pricing would be better. There is no value in the service they provided. Way too expensive. Even Roto-rooter was gonna charge me less, but they could not make it until the next day and I needed to turn on the water. Very disappointed with the pricing.
