Brian B Quick Plumbing Service
My wife and I are new home-owners faced with a dying furnace and hot water heater.  Randy planned out a new, more energy efficient HVAC system that suited our future plans for expansion.  The installation was faster than advertised.  The contractors were professional and patiently explained the new system once it had been installed.  Highly recommend.

Daniel's Home Services Plumbing Service
My friend was coming home from hospital the following day, but her air conditioning had stopped working on one of the hottest days in July. I called 8 different companies on Yelp, and Daniel's was responsive and managed to squeeze us in at the end of the day. AC fixed in time for friend to come home to a cool house.

Thomas E Clark Plumbing Service
Terrible service and rude staff! Sent a very ill employee to fix air conditioning. Had my husband try to help him do his work. Said he was sending another employee out same day but we were told otherwise by the manager of Clark. He wanted to send back the same ill employee the next day. When I complained, he hung up in me. Horrible inconsistent service over the past 2 years.

Snell Home Services Plumbing Service
TL; DR: Pretty good all things considered. Some snafus with the installation. In any case, I hope the new Lennox heat pump will be headache free but I won't hesitate to have Snell come out if things go wrong.

*********

The outdoor unit of our 15 year old heat pump wasn't working. Snell HVAC responded quickly to my call for service and just as quickly diagnosed the problem: the motor on the outdoor unit was locking up and the capacitor on the outdoor unit was also only at 50% power. They recommended replacing the unit and I agreed. Installation date was 10/31/2016 (Halloween!).

An aside that has nothing to do with Lennox or Snell: our old unit was a Kenmore sold and installed by Sears and was a real lemon. Every 2-3 years something would go wrong and it must have cost us (conservatively) an extra $2K over the lifetime of the unit to deal with it. Oh, well. You win some you lose some. Hopefully the new Lennox system (14HPX paired with CBX25) will do the job for us with fewer headaches.

Ok, on with Snell review:

(1) I liked the technician (Kevin) who came out to diagnose the problem and sold us the new unit. He was knowledgeable, proficient, professional, and friendly. I hope we're in his usual service area if things go south with the new Lennox unit. I'd rate Kevin 5 out of 5 stars.

(2) I liked the people working at the Snell office. They were polite and friendly and they answered their phones! They have a dispatcher who calls to let you know when their technicians are a half hour away. They're also thoughtful and efficient: I didn't get any invoice or serial numbers from the installation guys so here I was already to be annoyed at having to track down those numbers so I could register with Lennox. I shouldn't have been concerned. Because the nice folks at Snell filled out the registration for me (I know this because I got an email from Lennox congratulating me on registering when I did no such thing). Think about that: Snell could have easily emailed me and said, Here are the serial numbers. Go register with Lennox. Instead, they took a few minutes and did it for me. Hooray for thoughtfulness and efficiency! I'd rate their home office and dispatch system 5 out of 5 stars.

(3) I liked the guys Snell sent to install the unit. They were nice guys. But here's two reasons why Snell lost a star:

(a) Snell promised installation would take just ONE day. However, the metal the installation guys need doesn't arrive until late in the first day so they have to come back a second day. That's ok. Stuff happens. However, second day comes and goes and they still aren't done -- because while they have everything installed they can't get the outdoor unit to turn on. Well, it's because the indoor and outdoor units are on separate circuits and they forgot to flip on the breaker for the outdoor circuit AND they didn't engage the main switch on the outdoor unit. I know this because technician Kevin came out on the THIRD day and diagnosed it all in about 5 minutes. So that's an extra 1.5 days I was out of the office because I had to hang out at home for installation / installation issues.

(b) The installation guys were nice guys. However, they weren't very careful with the metal shavings they created when cutting the metal to connect the new indoor unit to the existing ductwork. I found small, sharp metal bits outdoor in our parking space as well as small, sharp metal bits in and around the utility room where the indoor unit was installed. By small I mean about 1/4 inch to 1/2 inch long pieces though there were also nail-clipping-sized pieces. Also, they left tape and some unused metal in the utility room. Anyhow, just a small annoyance and not a big deal. Just thought I'd mention it since according to their website: When we are finished working we'll clean up thoroughly and to your satisfaction. We'll go over the job with you and make sure you're happy with the work. The installation guys didn't clean up thoroughly nor did they over over the job -- though they may have left abruptly that second day because of the frustration over the outdoor unit not turning on ...

So 4 out of 5 stars for the installation snafus.

Clover Services Plumbing Service
Technician Mason Craig is very knowledgeable and he patently explained things which were needed for HVAC clean up. Also, prices of Clover Services are much reasonable than other few companies I checked. I recommend this company for the HVAC needs.

Cardinal Plumbing Heating & Air Plumbing Service
This was my first time calling Cardinal Plumbing. I'd read all the good reviews and was like 'yeah, but they can't be THAT good.' Whoa. The technician, Zack, was super prompt, courteous, knowledgeable, and above all, I felt like he 'really' cared. He fixed the issue and even sent me a document to refer to in the future for issues that may arise. I was a business owner for 24 years, so customer service is near and dear to my heart. Cardinal Plumbing, from the time I contacted them, to the time Zack left---was an incredibly awesome experience. These people ROCK! Will tell all my friends about them to.

Reddick & Sons Plumbing Service
I highly recommend Reddick & Sons for your HVAC needs. As a first time homeowner, I don't quite know my way around my furnace, but Joe from Reddick & Sons took time to carefully explain the issue (which involved airflow) and ensure I'd be able to fix it myself next time. He also provided reasonable estimates, in case the issue became worse.

The price was very competitive, and I appreciated the use of shoe covers to avoid making a mess in the house. Joe also had the most organized contractor truck I've ever seen. It's a must see attraction.

Drymount Air Plumbing Service
We lost our heat today, the Sunday before Christmas, and by the end of the day we were warm again thanks to Sean Shanahan of Drymount Air.  We called Drymount, he told us when he would be here and arrived at 7:20 pm as promised.  The furnace ignitor was replaced, and since he was in the attic checked the gas value, which was working fine.  He was professional and explained what he was doing and why, very pleasant and fairly priced.  We would highly recommend Drymount Air, and we made arrangements to have him replace our water heater after the holidays.

OHA Home Service Plumbing Service
Scott was very knowledgeable and was able to diagnose and fix two areas of concern about our chimney and fireplace. The chimney had been allowing water to get in and now we have a great looking new chase and cap on it and we also have a new heat shield in our fireplace to bring it up to code. Very responsive too, the other two companies we called never responded.

Jiffy Plumbing & Heating Plumbing Service
My plumber did a solid job fixing my leak in my pipes and was a great guy, but he had to come and go to get parts a couple of times, causing me to have to be at the house much longer than I should have (and on back to back days). The price was right and the fix is good, but it'd be nice if it hadn't taken so long.

John Nugent & Sons Plumbing Service
We've used John Nugent & Sons for years for our periodic furnace repairs. This weekend and today I was reminded yet again what quality and timely service they provide. On Saturday, when our furnace quit during the first major snow storm of the season, they sent out a technician during the storm late in the day.  When he couldn't complete the repair - needed a new blower motor - they followed up on Monday with a pair of employees, which included the owner, Pat Nugent, who completed the repair and then diagnosed and repaired an unrelated minor gas leak (at no extra charge). What a pleasure, and unfortunately all to rare, to find such personal and excellent service!  Now that we know they also do plumbing and electrical work, I'll know who to turn to should the need arise! Bowman's Plumbing, Heating, Air Conditioning, & Electrical Plumbing Service
I used Bowman's for a gas line repair. They were fantastic. Their service people were competent, friendly, and on-time. They fixed a problem that my own HVAC provider couldn't (or wouldn't) do. Their price was low and it successfully passed two inspections. One other great thing was that their front office staff always knew exactly what was going on so I didn't need to explain it every time. This is a great local business.

Magnolia Plumbing Heating & Cooling Plumbing Service
Our AC died on Saturday, May 12, 2018. I called Magnolia because they advertise 24 hour service. A woman took my information and a description of the problem and said I would receive a return call shortly. The temperature that day hit 90 degrees. Magnolia did not call me that day or the next day. On Monday, I called another service in disgust, and they came out a few hours later and fixed the problem.  It is now four days since I called Magnolia and still no return call. I'm never going to call them again.

By the way, the last time Magnolia worked on our AC four years ago, the technician told me that my system would soon need replacing. It was 11 years old at that point. When the technician from a competing firm came out yesterday, I asked how long my now 15 year old system could go and he said indefinitely.  I told him what the Magnolia technician said 4 years ago and he said, that's a guy who wants to sell you a new air conditioner.  Anyway, you get the point.

Real Plumbers® Plumbing Service
I got quotes for installing two toilets that needed to be replaced. All of the quotes for the work were pretty close. We chose Real Plumbers since we had used them before for other plumbing jobs & had been satisfied with their work. They did not disappoint. Technicians Jeremy & Justin arrived within the window of time we were given. They were professional, pleasant to have in our home, wore masks for protection, & worked together efficiently. I had envisioned that there would be some level of mess involved with replacing the toilets but they worked neatly, wore shoe covers, covered floors, removed the old toilets, installed the new ones, and cleaned up behind their work. When they left there was no evidence that they had even been here-- except for the beautiful new toilets in place! Thank you Real Plumbers for a job well done -- again!

Michael & Son Services Plumbing Service
On June 22, 2022 these morons came to diagnose why my shower stayed too hot and determined I needed a new mixer cartridge. Fast forward to August 3... no calls, no comms, no updates. Tried calling them only to sit on hold and then mysteriously disconnected after 20 minutes.  Finally, they gathered the courage to tell me THEIR ONE SUPPLIER Ferguson does not have the part and it's unknown When they will have the part. One supplier?? Really??? If you're in DC, do yourself a favor and use any one of the locally owned plumbers and not these thieves!
