I have always had excellent service from Sila Heating & Air Conditioning from scheduling an appointment to dealing with the on-site technician.

I have been very pleased with technician Tony Vaccaro.  He has always been on time, very professional and knowledgeable.  He takes the time to explain everything he had done and what to check & maintain.

I couldn't be more pleased with the service that I have received from Sila during the past four years.

Super high prices. Tech came out to our place twice in order to get an accurate diagnostic. Was quoted $13k-$15k for a new HVAC, and then we got another quote from a different company at $9k for the same thing. They also kept trying to push for the more high-end option when it wasn't necessary for us.

Celio-- appreciate you writing back but we won't be using your services. You are a business that runs on shady practices. After writing my review, we had a different technician come out and look at our system. All of a sudden our compressor wasn't working. Odd, since we just had Sila's technician do a tune up and was told our compressor was fine. After some diagnostics by our new technician (we were present the entire time), we find that a wire was deliberately unplugged by Sila's technician in an attempt to upsell us on services.  Wow, a blatant SCAM by your company to take advantage of consumers. In reading your reviews, it seems like I'm not the only customer that thinks you have unreasonable pricing or dishonest business practices. There's plenty of 1 star reviews on your page. We will be requesting a refund for Sila's annual tune up.

A word to the wise-- look else where for HVAC services. Sila thrives on scams and dishonest business practices.

My brand new AC  that was just installed by Sila last June already developed issued. Got a second opinion from another company and was told that issues were caused by improper initial installation. I got scammed from the beginning and now I'm still dealing with the issue. This company is unethical. How do you run a business like this? I will report this company to consumer protection. Bad business

They charged $98 to come tell me my disposal needed to be replaced, which I already knew and had communicated in my booking message. Their quote to replace and install a disposal is $900, $400 for installation only. Even their tech told me this was a ripoff as he gave me the quote. He happily took my $98 though. Hope this review can save someone else from calling them for an issue with a garbage disposal. Or anything else, most likely.

After taking time off work for 4 appointments related to the same issue, todays being a no show/no call due to the technician not having the correct equipment even though I confirmed when making this appointment the tech would have the right equipment, Sila now says they cannot resolve my water tank issue. Customer service rep was extremely rude with an attitude after I called to see if anyone was showing up and requesting a refund as the company should have been upfront they did not have the equipment required to fix the issue and continue to waste my time. Do not recommend this company.

Requested services from Sila for my furnace that quit suddenly in the morning. The technician came within hours of me scheduling an appointment, but he communicated quite unprofessionally (1st red flag). The technician identified the induction fan to be the problem and said it needed to be replaced, and that was the extend of the troubleshooting.

He excused himself to produce a quote and came back with an estimate of $1,270 for the repair (2nd red flag) or $1,200 for the repair and scheduled maintenance. There was no breakdown on parts, labor, or maintenance fees at all, just a total amount (3rd red flag) even though I asked for a breakdown of the quote. Needless to say, I opted out of both options and paid $98 for the call.

I took it upon myself to inspect the induction fan since I found it difficult to believe a 5-year-old fan would cease. I tried spinning the fan clockwise, but it would not turn. However, when I tried to spin it counterclockwise, the motor spun, albeit with a bit of a tension.

I removed the induction fan and found a bird was the obstruction (starlight bird if you must know). Then, I tested the motor and found it was within the range of operating ohms when I tested with a multimeter.  I removed the bird, mounted the same induction fan for which I was quoted $1,200, and my furnace worked perfectly, like new...which it basically is.

Long story short, I did not need an induction fan, and $1,200 was clearly a scam and a rip-off.

I do not recommend this company to anyone, friends or enemies. Stay clear, you've been warned.

I can no longer recommend Sila. They were good for a number of years that I used them. However, in the past 2 years the level of service has gone way downhill. They miss appointments and don't call to let me know they can't show up. As of today, for my past 4 scheduled appointments this year, they rescheduled the first 2, didn't show or call for the third, and didn't show or call for the fourth. They then called 3 hours after they were due for the fourth appointment to reschedule. That's 4 days I took off work to be at home for them and 4 days wasted. Never again. I don't know what happened between when I first started using them about 6 or so years ago and today, but a company that repeatedly misses appointments with no notice will not get my business or my recommendation.

Double check their prices! For instance, they are currently advertising General Plumbing Installation proposal for $149 on their homepage. I almost booked on line to replace my faucet, but it sounded too good to be true. So I called them and they told me that this price doesn't include labor!?! (What else is this service about then??) They said that the labor is additional $250, which makes the replacement about $400. Which is crazy (the other offers were between $229 and $320). But I was mostly disappointed by this misleading add on their website. So, be careful.

We used Sila for several years now and maintain an annual service agreement with them.  We Just bought a new home last year, and have had them out twice - once to inspect the furnace, and just recently for annual preventive maintenance on the air conditioning. Carlos Reed is the technician who visited most recently. He was very helpful, communicative, and transparent about our system and equipment.  Really appreciated the time he spent testing and explaining everything to me.

I booked an appointment for regular HVAC maintenance. Tyler was my technician, and he was great. He was very thorough, and he explained what he was checking as he worked and taught me some things about how my unit works. He identified an issue or two that will need to be fixed in the next year, told me the cost and gave me a sense of how long I could wait so I have a little time to budget. He's also friendly and chill. I had a great experience with him, and would definitely recommend.

I reached out to Sila to get an annual AC and heat tune up for my unit over the weekend and they called me back on Monday to set up a time for the same week. Carlos Reed was the technician who came out to service my unit. He was super professional and explained everything that he was doing along the way, which was really helpful.

Carlos Reed came out for the spring HVAC tune-up.  He came on time, did a thorough and efficient inspection, communicated well throughout the process, including setting the expectations.  He quickly identified and described the issue, as well as noted what prior maintenance had likely been done and explained why that was a temporary and inefficient solution.
He presented the options to fix the issue in detail and the pros and cons of each.  I appreciated his professionalism and thoughtful recommendations.

Had my HVAC checkup which SILA is offering a special on to make sure my system that SILA installed is working properly.   Technician, Carlos Reed, was courteous, showed up on time, and best of all gave me advice on how to better maintain the system.   I've been happy with SILA from installation of a new system and all follow up service/maintenance.

I have been using Sila for a little over 18 months and they have been very good to work with. Today i had a major scare regarding my heat pump. I called Sila and explained the issue to Ramsey who immediately understood the potential seriousness of the issue. He made sure a technician was dispatched to my residence as soon as possible.  Approximately 90 minutes later, Carlos Reed arrived. After he did an inside and outside inspection, he explained to me in terms I could understand that there was no need for me to worry and that everything was fine with my heat pump. I was very relieved. He is a wonderful ambassador for Sila.

As Sila grows and expands, they don't have enough service techs to arrive on time.  Although they have an automated scheduling system, they've cancelled on me twice because they didn't have enough techs to support their jobs.  It's like they're accepting too much work and can't handle the volume.  Additionally, I'm on the plan. They sent a tune up tech and he came with no equipment to test the health of my system.  He did notice somethings and gave good recommendations, but when you contract out too much quality suffers.  I hope this company can pull it together.  I had a scheduled appointment between 8 - 9, this is the third time a tech has been late to my home.  They are scheduling appointments during times when people aren't available and you're just waiting . . . . .

Sila Plumbing is the worst company ever. They continued to charge me for repairing my central air conditioner and it continued to fail. I paid them more than $2,500 to repair it and it still did not work. Finally they sent their regional manger after their technician said that my compressor was bad and had to be replaced. The regional manager came to my house and was rude to my wife and rude to me.  He only told me what he was not going to do, such as only replacing the compressor. Instead, he sent me an estimate for more than $10,000 in repair work. The next day another company came to my house, looked at the unit and replaced a fuse for $20 and a $108 service charge. The central air conditioner has been working well now for about a month. Sila Plumbing is nothing but a bunch of rude con-artists who just want to take your money.

They sent the same tech out again (Juwan) on Oct 26, 2020 to check our systems. He told us that the fan motor was going bad and would need to be replaced. We told him that our system (a Lenox) was still under warranty and the part should be covered. He said he would have the office look into it and that we should only be responsible for labor. Annoying, but that's the way the game goes. He also said he was unable to complete the check in for the HVAC system since the numbers wouldn't read right with the motor not kicking on consistently.

We are waiting for the call that never came. I ended up calling on Oct 30 to figure out what is going on. At this point I talk to someone in the office (Zach) who tells me that he tried to call me on Tuesday and left a message (which I never received). He told me the expense would be $700 - this was an hourly rate and it was expected that the job was going to take between 2 and 2.5 hours to complete. He told me the hourly rate was $305/hr (which I wrote down and confirmed for later reference) and he assured me that I was not being charged extra labor time due to the complications of the system being installed backwards by them. He also told me I should be receiving a 10% discount off the labor because of my maintenance agreement so my charge is likely between $630-$700. We scheduled the install for the following Monday, Nov 2.

Moving forward to the install, they sent out the tech (Juwan again). Tech arrives at 2:30 pm and finishes the job at 3:25pm. He then proceeds to go out to do the maintenance check. Once finished, he quotes me $610 for the job. I tell him to call because that number is too high because he only completed an hour of work and this rate was for 2 hours. He called and kept telling the office that he had completed 1.5 hours of work. After the 3 instance of this, I countered that he had only worked for 1 hour. He looked at his watch and said, Well, I got here at 2:30..., to which I responded, Well, it is now 3:36 pm, which is 1 hour and 6 minutes of work. He then told me he would only charge me for an hour of work - another lie.

He talked on the phone with someone and told me I would be charged $325, which was the cost for 1 hours' worth of work. I asked him if I would be receiving the 10% discount on the hourly rate as I had a maintenance agreement. Tech responded that I had already received a discount and could not receive multiple discounts for the same service. When I asked what that discount was, he told me I was receiving a discount because my part was under warranty. I told him that was not a discount - Sila was going to be paid by Lenox and were sent the part - it did not cost them money and I was paying for the labor so no discount had been applied.

At this point, tech (Javon) says, Well I just have to charge what they tell me. Can you just pay it and take it up with them? There is nothing I can do at this point. I am pissed but figure I can talk to someone at the office to get this taken care of. BIG MISTAKE.

I called once the tech left on Nov 2 at 3:40 pm and am told the manager and billing has left for the day. They take my message and tell me that they will call me back tomorrow. Of course, no callback. I call the next day, Nov 3, at 3:59 pm. Again, there are no managers and I am told I will get a callback the next day. I called back the next day at Nov 4 at 1:22 pm hoping to get someone get this.

I am on the phone with Zach again. We went back and forth before he said, So you're looking for the 10% off this price, right? Then I will go ahead and put that on your record, send you a new bill to reflect that, and you should receive the credit in 3-5 business days. Will that make you happy? I was frustrated and said, Yes, fine, that will work for me.
Surprise, surprise, no bill and no credit on my credit card. I'm done with this company - I want my money back from my maintenance agreement, my HVAC to be reinstalled correctly and to never work with them again.

Beware, they will try to upsell using the tag team approach. Guy comes out to do annual heater maintenance, finds something wrong, tells you about it. Next day or two get a call from the slick Willie sales guy telling me you'll die if you don't address the problem with the heater by purchasing a new one for $10,000.
I luckily had a different company out for a second opinion. Turns out the gas setting was set too high and a hose had a slight split(cut, hmmmm) and that was the cause of the higher than normal CO reading (the reading was taken inside the exhaust flew - not inside the room) Turns out I'm not going to die and don't need a new heater.
One would think the Sila Tech that did the annual maintenance wouldve noticed that and fixes it.

I cannot even begin to express my frustration, dissatisfaction, and utter confusion with my recent experience with Sila.

We called Sila over the weekend as we had an emergency water situation and we needed our main water line turned off. The technician came out and turned our water off and we informed them that we still needed help. We waited until Tuesday morning to call Sila back as it was a holiday weekend to get someone scheduled as soon as possible to come out to our house to take a look at and fix the issue because our water now has been turned off for several days and we have a baby.

We spoke with both Rachel and Deanna and there was confusion between them and they Conti next to ask us lwhy we still needed service, did someone in fact come out, and what the issue was. We finally were able to explain to Deanna that we still needed someone to come out as obviously we had already had someone turn our water off and to come as soon as possible given that we are now several days without water. She told us she would give my husband a call back that day (Tuesday) and for him in the meantime to send pictures of our faucet in the bathroom. He did that and she told us she was contacting a warehouse.

We did not hear back from them that day and went ahead and called a different plumber who was able to come out the very next morning because we were suffering at this point and  stressed out given the fact we have a baby.  (By the way, they got the part from Lowe's and fixed the problem easily in a few hours)

We did not hear back from anybody from Sila until Friday when Deanna asked us if we still wanted to schedule someone as the warehouse might have our part.

We told her no and then she said she needed to collect payment from the person who turned off our water last weekend.   I explained to her the frustration we had and she was very hesitant to offer any explanation and even told us she did not know our water had been turned off - I had to remind her that was why she was calling for payment. Needless to say, we will NOT ever be doing business with Sila.

Does Sila care about anything other than making money? In my experience, they don't. My heat stopped working suddenly on a Sunday and Sila came out Monday to take a look.  The technician spent 5 minutes, max, evaluating my boiler and wrote up a $4,000 quote including all of the parts that needed to be replaced to get the system back up and running.  On top of that, the tech's recommendation was that I not spend the $4k on fixes and instead replace not only the boiler but also my hot water heater with a combi system, to the tune of $19,000. After a couple of calls with the sales office, I realized this was a scam and suggested that I would need to think about it and ultimately called another company for a second opinion. Thank goodness, because the next company (also insured and with 45+ 5-star reviews on Yelp) did a full inspection, isolated the issue with my boiler, replaced the small and inexpensive part that was needed to safely get my boiler back up and running, took their time making sure to clean the coils and test for carbon monoxide, and made sure all of my radiators were heating back up properly.  All for less than $300.  They explained all of the different parts of my system, what to keep an eye out for and what I might want to consider having replaced/cleaned for general maintenance but didn't pressure me into spending thousands of dollars on the spot just to have heat for my family. So many better options out there. Don't let these guys take advantage of you.

This company is a complete and total scam and you should avoid them. I wish I would have read their recent YELP reviews before hiring them. I hired Sila 5 years ago for some small plumbing work and was very happy with the experience then. Given my previous experience, I signed a service plan with them last year- BIG MISTAKE.

Our heat stopped working and a technician came out (past the service window they confirmed with us) to investigate. After spending a few minutes with the outdoor air condenser, he came back and said you have leaks in multiple places and it needs to be replaced can can't be repaired. We will need to send out a different technician to give you a quote for replacing the unit When I started asking more questions he called someone and came back 5 minutes later and said Good news, I can fix the unit and he proceeded to give us a written estimate for a bit over $1,800 for the repair. Something seemed off about this experience and I couldn't understand how in 5 minutes time it changed from, spend $5K to replace a 6 year old compressor to suddenly, no problem, it can be repaired.

I hired a more reputable company to come out and look at the system and within a few minutes they conducted a simple leak test which clearly showed where the leak was coming from-- it was so obvious. They also said the last technician did not replace the screws to the fan unit and that they where nowhere to be found on the ground or around the unit. He also said another part had been removed and not properly screwed back on. The kicker, this other HVAC company quoted us  $800 for the same repair job. Mind you, this other HVAC company is a major licensed/insured company so it's not like I'm getting a better deal by having an inexperienced small company do the repair. They also could not understand why the other technician suggested the unit would need to be replaced, especially given the repair was not too terribly involved (about 3 hours of labor) for a unit which is less than 6 years old.

Stay away and call someone else for HVAC work.

After reviewing several options I decided to go with SILA to replace my HVAC system. Among other considerations were many of my neighbors who were replacing their HVAC systems around the same time who recommended SILA.

On Friday, July 24, a SILA team arrived at 8:30am to remove my old system and replace it with a new Carrier system. At around 3:30pm they were done and I asked for my work order. I was told there was no work order. I then asked if I needed to pay them, and the installer said no. I asked for manual and the installer dropped four 100 page engineering manuals on my table and said, 'You can have these'. I asked for the air conditioning to setup and he pressed some buttons. I tipped him and his team and they left.

The next morning I woke up and left the house to go for a bike ride and crashed my bike. After spending most of the day at Urgent Care for treatment of my broken wrist, I went home and that's when I could recognize that I had a gas leak. I called Washington Gas to report the gas leak. The DC Fire department came out and confirmed that the gas leak was from an unsealed gas pipe. One of the fire fighters said that it was irresponsible to have left my house with gas leaking from a pipe. I called SILA and told them I had a gas leak from the installation, and I could have died if I hadn't left my house for a bike ride in the morning, and, as it happens, I did break my arm. The SILA representative Kelly's response was the equivalent of, 'oh well, but you didn't die, and there was nothing she could do.' So I asked that a manager call me. No manager called me, so I eventually called SILA. It tooks two days of calling but I finally got in touch with a manager. He said he never heard of my story. He said he was sorry to hear that I had been sitting in my house, with my windows closed in the 100 degree Washington, D.C., heat, inhaling gas for 20 hours and that my arm was broken, but he couldn't do anything at all. I finally negotiated a warranty extension and he said he was give me a $250 refund. The $250 doesn't even come close to the amount of out-of-pocket medical expenses I accumulated because of my broken arm. The computer on my HVAC doesn't work properly - even after 3 techs from SILA came out to program the computer - each tech actually showing me how simple it was which simulataneously saying that the previous tech obviously didn't know what they were doing when they programmed the computer. Also, the $250 that Evan refunded, and sent me a picture of the receipt, it never was refunded into my account - which, I think, is, like, fraud, or, at least, a lie.

I'm writing this two months after the installation because my broken arm has finally healed. I still have problems with programming the HVAC system; the $250 refund was never processed despite being sent a receipt of the process; and SILA didn't care or take responsibility for the shoddy installation of my HVAC system that left gas leaking into my house for more than a day before it was recognized.

So, no, I do not recommend SILA. Considering the highly competitive HVAC market in the DC area I would recommend almost any other installer of HVAC systems other than SILA.

I chose Sila for an existing Unico system upgrade with some return rework for sound and new supply lines for a newly-remodeled room.  From research, I gathered that they're a high-volume Unico service vendor.

We agreed to a contract that would take 3 consecutive business days.  Sila completed the job quoted in the initial proposal but it took 3 months, 5 visits, and I personally found and fixed the final issue myself.  There were five objective mistakes. One issue was a misunderstanding between the salesman and me. I'll take the blame for that. The other four issues were purely technical. The Unico system is fairly simple but the installers forgot to install the heater component, installed the wrong motor, ordered the wrong parts and figured it out at our house, then finally set up the motor with the wrong software settings forcing it to run at full throttle.  I had to frequently call the office or email them directly to attain schedule status.

I escalated my concerns to Evan (GM that responds on here).  He was happy to continue offering help but didn't seem to have empathy that the job was 3 months late. I felt that he saw the job as a success.

As a consumer, schedule is one measurement of success and I accepted a high-priced estimate (30% over competitors) because I felt they would complete the work in one week.

I trust these guys are great for servicing contracts and hot fixes when you're in a jam but if you need a larger project executed on time like a full system upgrade, I'd recommend other Unico vendors in the area.

1 star for execution, 1 star for teaching me a lesson.

BEWARE!!
Recently had a technician come to service my home from this company. Technician rang doorbell at approximately 12:05pm. I received an email at 12:12pm stating I was a no show and would have to reschedule (my cell phone had died while in the office).  I immediately contacted the person that was at my home waiting for the technician and the company to assure the connection was made.
The technician stated he had already rescheduled the appointment and the person on the phone actually stated they would have to call back to see what technician wants to do.
- Please note my window for service was from 11am to 2pm. I am unsure as to how it is possible that I did not receive service today  when it took approximately 7 minutes to effectively make the connection between the person I who waited for the technician and the technician.

These people do no want to do the job! Do not waste your time!  Or maybe just don't take too long getting the door...

My wife and I had Sila do a high velocity air system in an old rowhouse we purchased. Are we glad we did!  They were excellent and impressive in every way. When we were getting quotes, they came out multiple times to answer any questions we may have. They even had one of their install guys come around and crawl through our attic to get an idea of what they would have to do.

During the job they ran every change by us, didn't charge us a penny more when they had to do workarounds, and even fixed a small leak that they found on the roof. Their guys were professional, tidy (they wear boot covers so they don't dirty your floors), and put all their equipment EVERY day.

We got a maintenance plan with our system, will see how it goes in the long run. They reach out to remind you to schedule it which I find to be nice. The technician came and said we don't need a new filter yet and I have no reason to doubt him.

We did consider them for some mini splits in our basement. They came in on the higher end of the estimates. We ended up with another company that had done a lot of work for a relative which cost us about 40% less. But that turned out so horribly I wish we had just paid the extra and gotten Sila quality and expertise.

I just called Sila for the second time and am as pleased with the service as I was the first time. The first time was for a clogged pipe at the HVAC and this time was for a leaky toilet that turned out to need a new wax ring and to be reseated. Both gentleman that came out were one time, wore masks, put on shoe covers, were polite, and let me know what the problem was and how they fixed it AND how to prevent any further issues.

This company definitely has a client for life and when it comes time for a new HVAC they will be the ones I call!

Thank you Tony and Roger!

I guess heather didn't hear the part about the fuse.  She forgot to mention it too.  I have worked as an electrician and studiedly for my masters.  I'm not an hvac contractor but know a lot about electrical diagrams.  They need to study the job prior to working first diagnosis always.  She ignored the facts and brushed over the important issue which was it didn't work when they left and said I needed over 1000$ worth of work which was repaired by me for 5$ worth of parts. A Blown Fuse!!!!!!!!!!  What a bunch of con-artists!!

Tyler at Sila was excellent.  He was extremely pleasant, had a really great attitude, and was willing to take the time to make sure the job was done properly.

For 2 or 3 years I used Sila for my twice-yearly HVAC inspections and had no complaints until one of their technicians told me that I needed a capacitor replaced in my furnace/AC (the air exchanger) and another capacitor in my heat-pump (motor/condenser).  When I asked how much to swap them out, the quotes were $250 and $300 respectively, parts and labor, but the technician also said that the quote was only good if I agreed to do the work right then.

Worried that I was being swindled, I told the technician that I'd think about it and get back to him.  Checking online, I found that the furnace/AC capacitor is a $25 part--the heat-pump capacitor slightly more at $45.  So these bozos were going to charge me $225+ for a part that took the technician a total of 15 minutes to remove, show to me, and then re-install when I wouldn't agree to his sky-high price?

It took another full year before a Sila competitor flagged the same two capacitors as likely to fail, and their price to do the replacement?  $60 for the AC/furnace and $72 for the heat-pump, parts included.

Buyer beware.  Sila has pretty aggressive pricing for routine service, but they'll charge all that the traffic will bear for anything else.

We've used Sila for several years to have our home AC unit tuned before the summer heat arrives. For the past two seasons we've been fortunate to have Bob as our service tech. He's friendly, courteous, and helpful, and is credit to his company. I highly recommend Sila. Book early for their $59 spring tune up special!

I chose to go with Sila because the salesperson said the it would not be invasive and only be installed in closets and in my attic. This was incorrect and misleading. They installed large tubes throughout my attic, in my living room and master bedroom. I was unaware that tubes would be visible and I would have to incur the cost of covering them. For $30K it seems as if they would have been more upfront about how invasive the installation would be. When I asked about the tubes throughout the house the sales rep referred me back to the contract. UNBELIVABLE. When I escalated it to the manager, John, letting him know that I did not receive the information I needed to make an informed decision, he blamed me! He was very argumentative and kept saying he didn't want to argue.

The icing on the cake was when the contractors left not informing the they had completed installation or showing me how to operate the system. Also they left miscellaneous parts in the attic. When I inquired about this, I was told that they do not show clients how to operate the system. Given it has been a record 90 degrees for days, without air, it would have been nice to know they were done.

I recently switched to SILA at the recommendation of a friend after my longtime HVAC contractor kept cancelling my appointments.  The SILA technician was Carlos Reed.  He was very thorough in his inspection and did not seem rushed to move to another job.  He determined my 17 year old system was at the end of its life and needed replacement.  He presented me different options to fit my budget and I selected a new system.  I'm very happy I switched to SILA.

When I first purchased my home, I used Sila for twice-yearly maintenance on the 6-year old system. The first two service calls were fine.
Year 2 rolls around and the technician now tells me my system is 16 years old, builders' grade, and replacement was recommended. Sales guy appears at my door in 45 minutes to sell me a new system.
Luckily I checked my home inspection report and confirmed it was a fairly new system. Sila seems surprised. I let it go.
6 months later, they service the AC....or so I thought. The house felt cool for a month but then less so. Another month goes by;  I'm coming home late from work and as I walk down my block, I hear screeching machinery. It gets louder as I approach my home. You guessed it: The compressor motor died. On a fairly young system just serviced by Sila 7 weeks before. I smelled a rat.
The next day, I asked another company to do the repair. I now pay $189 a year to another firm for two service calls AND free filters for my whole house humidifier. I will NEVER use Sila again.

I scheduled an A/C tune up and was given an appointment the very next day. The appointment window was 1-4 and Javon showed up a few minutes before 1 to my surprise. He was courteous and went right to work. When the service was completed he went over the findings with me. He was extremely professional and personable, it is so hard to compliment service these days, I knew I had to make a review about this appointment. Sila has been doing our maintenance for the past few years and we have never had a problem but I felt it necessary to say so this time. Thanks for providing great service.

I used this company once before to diagnose an air conditioning problem at a home I own. NEVER AGAIN. Last week around April 15-16 I called to schedule a service appointment and the earliest they had was Monday, i.e. today, April 22. None of my tenants were available to meet the technician so I offered to do so, even though I also have to work, but OK. I was given a 3-hour window (1-4 pm to be exact) and told I'd receive a phone call 20 minutes before he arrived. At 4:15 I finally received a call from the tech saying HE WAS AT THE HOUSE. In other words, no phone call and he's late, to boot. Then he wants to reschedule. Forget it. Sitting around all day waiting for a phone call that never comes is not my idea of fun, especially when I'll be the one footing the bill. You've lost me as a customer for good. Ridiculous.

I had a really bad experience with Sila. They sent out an estimator who spent nearly an hour at my house. He sent me a proposal for $10,400. Prior to his sending it to me I wanted to make sure that we were speaking the same language and had no confusion regarding the contract. I asked, and he promised that everything in the attic and on roof the would be replaced with new equipment. We never flush, we always replace. That made me feel comfortable.

Two days later the installation manager comes over to get a look at the project. He spend nearly 45 minutes in the house, looking in the attic, on the roof, everywhere. I explain to him that the contract included replacing everything I could see in the attic with new. Approximately one hour after the install managers visit I get the following email that turned my stomach.  This is from the estimator/salesperson when I was informed that the one piece of equipment not included in the contract was a $2,000 piece of equipment:

I want to put all my cards on the table here. I know you aren't happy I wouldn't be either. Here's the thing we're already doing this for less than our cost and my management has my back on that. You've been the most honest with me of any person I've dealt with in this business so I've broken more than a few rules to do this for you at the lowest cost possible. I'm not supposed to do 5 year 0 percent because we get charged 15 percent for that. I'm also not supposed to have a job scheduled before having a signed contract and financing complete so I'm really pulling out the stops because while we may have this hiccup before the work is done, every other company will have them afterwards and I know you don't want that.

So at the end of the day Mike is the best in the business and we didn't quite understand what he was saying. You have a portion of ductwork in such poor condition that it's going to require us extra labor and custom parts to fix it for you properly. We're already 1k under cost at this point and they're simply not going to let me lose anymore than that.

To do this right I can take $500 off and add just $2000. It's possible that by fixing this issue maybe you don't even need the minisplit and if you do I'll give you another great deal.

Trust me I want to help because you seem like a great guy and I'm hoping to have that career talk with you if I'm truly being honest. Just know I'll do my best to make it up for you but that's the run down. If you don't want to move forward I understand but I'm around if you can call back.

So, instead of honoring their contract they pitched me a $2,000 increase then used all the typical sleazy sales approaches to justify it. This is EXACTLY what I was looking to avoid. Exactly the scenario I worked hard not be be in. I then had a con call with the estimator and his boss. That didn't go over so well. The boss pitched me the exact same script even though, on the contract it says:

Dear Chuck,

Thank you for the opportunity to replace your existing heating and cooling system. Below are the basic steps to install your Air Conditioning System:

Remove and recycle existing equipment
Furnish and install 1 Condenser & Air Handler
Replace existing line-set (cooper lines between the indoor unit and outdoor unit)
All electrical.
All necessary ductwork to tie in new unit Start up and test. This job will take approximately 1 day. The installation will be scheduled at your convenience, and you are not required to remain at home during the installation.

More detailed description and pricing follows.

Regards,

MY RECOMMENDATION IS TO AVOID THESE FOLKS AT ALL COST.

2+ years and still a client.

Sila is the best.  After walking into the laundry room and finding a pool of water on the floor, I ran to my Angies List account and found Sila.  What I expected to be an expensive emergency service/repair, turned out to be a technician who called me back promptly and walked me through a temporary solution to avoid a costly emergency service.  Whew!  He saved the day.  Cause let me tell you, I was not looking forward to telling my husband that a brand new HVAC unit fritzed out after a year.  A repair service was scheduled during normal hours and problem resolved.

We set up a service plan and very happy to have done so.  We never have to call and schedule, we get calls that we are due to have a tune-up.  Very nice to not have to keep track.

I have even txted photos of concerns, asked if these concerns were normal, and received replies within an hour.

They came out twice in a few years to completely clean boiler and hvac.
Recently we had plumbing repairs and I casually mentioned that our boiler wasn't working well, to the new plumber we hired.
The new plumber is a bit of brainiac and is interested in everything.
He looked at the boiler and asked why the tank had ever been drained and also pointed out several other things that SILA should have done or noticed.
So we're really disgusted that their poor service over the years probably contributed to our boiler's decline.
And now we're horrified that when they cleaned the HVAC they never bothered cleaning the collected grease OFF the motor. It makes a BURNING smell when it kicks on their goofball tech said that was normal.
Do not use this company.

I just had them come in for routine maintenance on one AC unit, and to fix a freezing coil issue with another one. They get A+ for customer service-- polished/professional, both before and during the visit. I canceled once on short notice and they were ok with it. Also, the technician explained things well.

They did well doing annual checkup on the unit that wasn't broken.

Not happy with how they handled the one that was accumulating ice on the coil. I feel I overpaid. I was charged $175 per pound to add refrigerant, as some had been lost due to a leak somewhere. I later found out that this unit takes older kind (R22) that has gotten more expensive, but still the quote was very high. He said he charged me for one less pound than he used, but that's still a very high mark up. Especially because that was just the cost of the refrigerant, not like he needed to charge for showing up or for labor, because I paid $100 separately for diagnosis of that unit.

I would still give them a four star, but...it didn't seem to me he made any attempt to locate the leak. He said I would have to pay for a new visit, as he didn't bring the ink he needs to mix in with the refrigerant, so they can see where the leak is. Knowing the symptoms I expect them to show up with whatever they might need.

They did give me a $100 discount overall (after I asked, just before paying), so now I want to change the rating to 3.5, but overall, I have a bad taste in my mouth.

We have used them for HVAC service and always found them first-rate.  This time they leveled the unit outside and fixed a squeak we had they said was a loose baffle in the ductwork.  While they don't do ductwork repair they were able to brace it so it didn't move and the squeak is gone.

Roberto has been at our home before and I'm always happy to see him.  He's professional, courteous, knowledgeable, doesn't waste time and makes sure to pet my dog.  This time he needed a 2nd tech to help and came with Jose.  Jose was just as professional, courteous and helpful.

If you are looking for a top-notch HVAC company you gotta call these guys.  I've used others before, and had a contract with one I won't name for many years and they weren't as knowledgeable, courteous and spent hours doing (and often I had to call them back the next day) what these guys manage to do in less than an hour.

UPDATE TO THE UPDATE: I have changed my initial one star review to four.  The one star was because their 24/7 emergency number wasn't working as advertised, and then because of some really terrible bill collecting tactics.

BUT, once I finally got through to someone, the actual on-site service was very good (the technician arrived when he said he would, found the problem and fixed it quickly and efficiently).

And then, in response to my complaint to them and on here, I received a very thoughtful call from a gentleman named Micheal. He not only patiently listened to my complaints, but worked with me to find some actionable measures to ensure what I experienced wouldn't be repeated for anyone else. He took my concerns seriously, acknowledged my frustrations, and repeatedly apologized for Sila not living up to its reputation in this one instance.

Every company screws up. People have bad days, or something goes wrong. I get that. So, I like to judge companies on how they make those mess ups right and how they respect me as a customer. I was very pleased with the resolution and the apology and the promise not to use intimidation tactics in the future to settle a disputed bill.

So. Based on how they fixed my furnace, and settled my issues, 4 stars. I will be giving them another chance, and hope to give them 5 stars next time I need their services.

------------
UPDATE: This is a FRAUD of service and uses possibly illegal intimidation tactics to collect bills they should have collected during service. I have not had a chance to pay my bill for the service that they *eventually* rendered (read below for initial review). I tried to pay them on site, but their technician refused to take my credit card information. They saw my Yelp review and attempted to contact me once. I believe any business can make mistakes, and I judge them based on how they fix things. So before paying my bill I wanted to be in touch with them. Cat and mouse game of phone calls ensues. I then opened up a letter today from them containing a FAKE legal document (no case citation, no attorney listing, no court listed, and no signature on this FAKE document). This is ILLEGAL and a form of intimidation. If they did submit this FAKE document, I would instruct my attorney to fight it because their statement on it contains patiently FALSE and defaming information (They claimed they were being nice and knocked $100 off the bill. THIS IS A LIE. I PAID FOR A COUPON THROUGH YELP AND UTILIZED IT.  They also claim that their technician arrived on time. False. I began calling their FAKE 24/7 service line in the morning. Multiple messages left. Multiple messages left through Yelp!  FINALLY got through to them several hours later in the afternoon. They also sought to intimidate me and withdraw this FACTUAL review of my miserable experience with them)

These people are frauds and bullies. FIND SOMEONE ELSE FOR YOUR HVA

Sila = UNRELIABLE

These folks are a bunch of scam artists. Used them last spring, after buying a $50 off! Coupon for $25, only to be told afterwards it wasn't valid for the service I needed. Fine. I then paid $200 for an annual maintenance plan. They checked my AC in the spring and I was told I would be called in the fall to schedule an appointment to tuneup my furnace. No call or email ever sent to me. Today, the ignition on my furnace won't turn on. I have called the supposed 24/7 emergency number and have twice been punted to voice mail. I left a voicemail over an hour ago and still no response. Since I'd like to not freeze to death, I will be using another more reliable service and also calling Better Business Bureau about this fake maintenance plan I got roped into.

DO NOT USE THESE PEOPLE.

What a great experience. I have had trouble finding HVAC firms that service Inverters, and I just happen to run into a Sila Technician Billy Bollon who was in my neighborhood on another job. He was very polite and confirmed they did, so I made an appointment.

Billy showed up early, was very professional, conscientious, and even our dog loved him! He was very thorough, and explained all the charges up front so there would be no surprises. Was very pleased with the service, and happy that I found my new HVAC company.

I've had a great experience with Sila.  I haven't had to do a major repair or replacement with them, but I have had a maintenance agreement with them for the past 4 years on my ridiculously old furnace/AC system.  They've helped me maintain it, been honest with their assessments when they've said it's fine or noted things to be fixed, and showed me what's going so I know more about it.  They've been easy to schedule and their service people (particularly Lucas) and front office have made it a breeze.

Sila is great!! Always prompt and fast! I know they don't like to do maintenance tune ups over the weekend and since I was off on Monday I called same day to see if anyone was available and they said someone would come 2-5. The office called me and said the tech was finished early and if they can come earlier...great! The tech was very professional, kind, and honest. Not like other companies that try to make you buy little things here and there. I have been using this company for about 2 years and they have always met my standards.

Had these guys about a week ago.  Service was cleaning vents not for placing finger prints and marks on the walls.  Slightly sloppy work.  Promise to wash your hands and watch the marks on my walls, and I promise to get better paint.  Had to stop the young guy from dragging the cord around the corner of my wall.  Even left fingerprints on the ceiling.  I too received the spiel of getting some extra work done and it could be cheaper if they do it right then and there (to put you on the spot).  Maybe some truth or maybe not, I wasn't ready to drop an extra $1500 that night

Contracted these guys for a pretty big job (total HVAC replacement) on a historic home. The sales process went smoothly and professionally and the sales rep was able to inform us and help facilitate getting processed a historic property tax credit that we were not aware of which should save us a significant amount of money. I have been able to text the sales rep throughout the process and get updates, which has been nice, and I they do aim to be professional, but this is impeded by the reality that these guys are horribly uncoordinated. Today is the 6th day over a month+ period of time they are sending a crew out to finish (redo) the work. There has been very poor communication between each crew that has been sent out, each with their own level of knowledge/expertise (some low, some high) and opinions. Admittedly this is a complex job but they have made it *far* more complex due to lack of simple communication mechanisms such as one crew informing the next crew of the work that's been already done and what needs to happen next. One guy showed up not knowing what he was supposed to do, waited around for a foreman to show up (who never did), hoped I could explain to him what to do (I couldn't), looked around and informed me that a ton of stuff had been done wrong. Took several weeks for them to send another crew out (that was three visits ago). I'm confident that somewhere within Sila, they have techs that truly know what they are doing; I'm also confident that their lack of standardized knowledge/practices (training?) and internal communications are severely impacting their quality of work -- which turns into heavy inconveniences on their customers. All in all, this has turned into a pretty frustrating experience.

Our system hadn't been working for several weeks, and as soon as my husband called - they were able to come out within two business days for repair. They communicated prior to the appointment and when Vince showed up at our door - I knew we were in good hands. He was professional, kind and explained the process to us (me in person/my husband on the phone.)

We're happy with the repairs and would love to recommend Sila (and, Vince!) to our friends.

I contacted SILA to provide routine maintenance on our HVAC system. The staff was prompt in responding to my inquiry, flexible regarding scheduling, and very communicative about the timing of the technician's arrival.

I can't say enough about the overwhelmingly positive experience that I had with the technician, Billy. He was extremely professional and thorough, with a wealth of experience and expertise. In addition, he was friendly, engaging, and patient in explaining the purpose of each maintenance procedure. In short, he surpassed my expectations! I am so appreciative of time and care that he dedicated to working with us. I will absolutely be requesting him for our next HVAC service.

Our HOA has used Sila to service our seven-unit condo for the last five years, for routine maintenance and occasional small repairs.  The company has provided terrific service and we have been completely satisfied.  The technicians who do the house calls are always professional and knowledgeable.

This past summer I had a flood in my condo that required removal and replacement of my entire HVAC system and the water heater, in coordination with a water mitigation service.  I contacted Sila to do the job.  Throughout the process, the Sila customer service team, and Leslie in particular, were wonderful.  They were flexible and responsive to my scheduling needs, and made sure the work was done right.  When an adjustment was needed to fix a small pipe leak, Sila came out immediately after hours to address the leak and replaced the part the next day.  The HVAC system works better than ever.  I am very grateful to them!

I would highly recommend Sila for anyone looking for a go-to, reliable company to take care of routine and emergency needs!

I recommend this company because of its strong focus on customer satisfaction. I called John last week regarding a hvac/venting issue and he took the time to assess my problem and recommended a professional who was able to resolve it.  Shortly afterwards I contacted him again for a plumbing issue,  Roger was dispatched to my home.  He was able to resolve the issue without destroying my recently deceased husband's customized backsplash. I was so moved knowing that Roger took the extra time and effort to preserve my husband's handiwork.  If I could give John and his team more than 5 stars, I would!

SILA tech Jose did our semi-annual maintenance. He was thorough, patient in checking all systems, and prepared to enter our home with mask, gloves, foot covers/booties to protect him and us. We postponed our maintenance for a month until we felt that all businesses were covid-19 aware. SILA assured us they were and their tech Jose lived up to our expectations. We have ductless as well as a traditional heat/ac furnace, and he thoroughly inspected and apprised us of everything we needed to know. Over the years, we have trusted SILA to install units when old ones needed to be retired, and we can say that we whole-heartedly recommend SILA.

Very poor service approach. Each year my unit needs a small charge and I've never had an issue with the last company giving it a charge. This time with Sila, the tech just said it's a 2006 unit, not worth adding a charge. It still works, just not as efficient. We can debate whether the unit should be replaced because it's 13 years old, but I just didn't appreciate the attitude. I'm sticking with the small local guys.

Sila did not show up at the time our appointment was scheduled. Worse, I called and spoke to Evan, who told me the technician is around the corner parking the car. After waiting for 30 minutes longer, the technician did not show. I called back and they kept me on hold. Totally unprofessional service, and as a result, Sila has forfeited my business and my extensive DC-based network of home owners.

Used Sila for a HVAC tune up and was very happy with the quality of the work and the customer service. Called in to schedule an appointment with a technician and they sent someone the next day. The technician even arrived early. He was very friendly, knowledgeable and thorough with the service and was in and out pretty quickly. The price for the service was lower than most of the quotes I got from other places, so overall I would definitely recommend using their services.

I've been a happy Sila customer for the past 3 years. Their technicians are always on time, friendly, very knowledgeable and very very helpful. Our heating and cooling systems run smoothly and we couldn't be happier.

I want to also give a special shout out to Josh who came to do our annual service the day before Thanksgiving. He gave us the best advice of leaving the HVAC fan on during the winter to circulate our fireplace's heat. This was a game changer for 1930's not-so-well-insulated house. Thanks Josh and Sila!

I received services from Sila a few months ago, so this review is late.  Sila is a good reason why I only deal with small, independently-owned HVAC repair/installation companies for maintenance.  I inherited a Sila HVAC maintenance contract from the previous owner so I gave them a chance.  The tech's service  was rather unsatisfactory.  He turned on the boiler to the radiator system, and when he heard a loud noise coming from it, he automatically declared that the system was broken and left.  I told him that the system needed water which included bleeding all the radiators in my house.  He refused, so I asked him to at least clean the grates in the boiler.  He told me that it was not worth cleaning a boiler that was broken and said that someone from Sila will call me with a quote for a new system.  When he left, I simply turned on the water, filled the system, bled the radiators, and it was working great.  The next day, I received a call from someone from the sales dept and he gave me a quote for 10k!  The follow-ups were relentless.  I must've received an email every other day until I politely told the salesman that I won't be working with Sila.  Sila is a well-oiled machine.  I heard that they are great when installing brand new systems, (you'll pay though), but they are not the company to call to maintain or fix your system.  Their techs are on a tight schedule and if they can't service a system in the allotted time, they just move on to the next customer who is in the queue.  If they could provide more attention to customers and do problem-solving before pushing them to buy a new system, they would be great.

We moved into our new home in Annapolis and wanted an assessment of the HVAC system. My son used Sila and was extremely happy. I called and the person I spoke with was friendly and helpful. An appointment was booked. The service rep was excellent. He obviously knows his business. He pointed out numerous potential problems and some issues that needed immediate attention.
Was the $79 fee worth it?  Absolutely!  I learned a lot about my unit which is what Si wanted.

High prices, high call charge, technician kept changing his story and prices.  Felt I was being jacked around.  $175/lb for freon, that is criminal.

I have previously used Sila for YEARS and have recommended them to many many people, my daughter included.  Sadly, I will no longer be using them.

They might be just fine with cleaning and yearly maintenance of Heating & Air Conditioning, but do not trust for replacement or installation of new units.

The people who come out to quote you a fee and review the placement of the units don't understand the design requirements to provide adequate guidance.  So just because you sign a contract with specifications, doesn't mean you'll get that product placed where you want.

The time allocated to their workers isn't enough for them to do the job.  So you will not be getting AC when promised and emergency repairs are done urgently.

Then let hope they do better for you and not improperly install the unit so that condensation line from the air handler fills your attic.  This water will stain your ceilings and warp your wood floors.

BEWARE!!!! Being new to DC, my wife or I called Sila to discuss engaging them as a potential HVAC vendor.  We called 3x- first for an overview and twice more for clarifications. Each time responses were totally different.  And in fact, on our last call (Jen answered) she was nasty and rude - accusing us of calling minutes earlier - which was totally untrue as our calls were two weeks ago, 4 days ago and then today 11/14/19.  Despite calling 3x, we never did get a clear answer as to whether they can replace radiators and if they had experience with 40 year old boilers. Additionally, in response to our question regarding the so called tune-up that Sila is currently offering - Jen insisted it was a tune-up despite the fact that their website lists the tasks for the $99 tune-up as check-up items only i.e. check temperature, check oil pressure.  In-fact, the website task list is labeled safety check up! And there is nothing on the list that is a tune-up item.  Seems like this is a way to drum up new business and charge for actually doing a tune up.  Jen then arrogantly and sarcastically stated that she was sorry if Sila's definition of a tune-up was different than mine and Miriam Webster's.  Is this a vendor you want to use - one who is nasty and tries to sell a customer on a check-up but calls it a tune-up?  Also - if Sila is so nasty to a potential customer, you can be sure they will be even more nasty once they have roped you in. Furthermore, on top of it all, when asked about after hour service, Jen stated that there was only one tech on call for the entire metro area (which is not what the original gentleman stated who we spoke to...he said there is an after hours tech on call for DC, Silver Springs, and each major area).  So when Jen stated that only one tech was on call for the entire MD/DC metro area - we pointed out that the likelihood of getting after hours service for an emergency would be slim to none, and she agreed.  Also, unlike Kelly (another rep) she stated that there was no after hour answering service; instead the on-call tech has to answer incoming calls so it might be that you can't even get through to speak with anyone for quite sometime.

When one of our gas furnaces went down on a cold day early March I contacted Sila. We have used them before and have found the service response time to be very good. I particularly appreciated the options that our tech,  John Gulstrom presented. He suggested ways to save money on this repair and was excellent In a quick fix. We were even able to use a yelp coupon as a discount. Thanks John !  well done...we appreciate it all.

Sila did an outstanding job installing our whole house, high velocity air conditioning system.  It is such an upgrade from window unit air conditioning!  The outlets for the air conditioning system are barely noticeable and the installers were professional, courteous, quiet, and efficient.  They cleaned up at the end of every day before leaving and we are very satisfied with our new, quiet air conditioning system!  Would highly recommend Sila to anyone who is thinking about making the jump to a whole house AC system.  It is definitely worth the investment.

Joey came out to inspect our unit today. He was early, professional, and did a great job teaching me about how our HVAC unit works while he inspected it. While out unit checked out fine, when we do need help in the future, we'll go with SILA.

We purchased a great deal on Angie's list so we got bumped to the back of the list to get help. They then canceled twice on us. The third time was a charm and we got everything taken care of. Tech was great and for the price worth the wait.

We had a good experience with Sila and would definitely recommend them. We needed someone to get our furnace up and running on a cold day and they were able to squeeze us in that afternoon. Their technician Joey arrived on schedule, was both friendly and professional, and also got our heat up and running again quickly.

I had Sila come out for a heating (boiler) check up, per Angie's List coupon. The technician told me my system was broken, he needed to order new parts, and that it would cost me $1000+. I called Davis & Davis, who came out immediately and fixed it for $223.

I have worked with Sila 3 times now (for three different problems). I never thought I would feel this enthusiastically about my HVAC repairs, but I have been consistently impressed with the company. The office line is warm, helpful, and speedy in scheduling appointments. The technicians are knowledgeable, efficient, and extremely polite and helpful. I have never felt upsold by them-- if anything they have made recommendations to help save me money through maintenance tips, etc. Special shout out to Jose who I've worked with twice now-- the team couldn't be friendlier and the service is speedy, efficient.

Truly, top notch all around.

SILA is the most professional & customer friendly company I have ever dealt with. I have an old house with radiator heating but I needed to get rid of my window air conditioners. I found out about SILA years ago when I went to a Hone Show at DC's Convention Center ( by chance).  I'm so glad I did. I explained what I wanted. Within a few days I contacted them. One Of the owner & a Technician came to my home & showed:explained to me what they could do, The duct systems are small, hidden & they don't take up much space in my closet. I also needed a small dehumidifier & heating & air conditioning system for my damp basement. This too was installed within minutes. It is now dry & toasty in my basement. I've used SILA to replace the large furnace in my rental property as well as to install air-conditioning. When I lost the owners manuals all I did was make a call and within a day I was mailed the manuals. Their prices are reasonable & they are willing to work with you on financing. I highly recommend  SILA for heating & air condition. I've tried other companies through the years, but I found SILA to be the most reliable.

It's very hard to write this review after reading the other complimentary reviews. I found Sila 3 years ago through Angie's list after purchasing my house. I signed up for a seasonal maintenance package. You pay a yearly fee and they check your A/C unit and furnace before each season. The first experience was great. The AC technician went above and beyond. However, since then they routinely have emergencies or other reason to not show up when they are scheduled.  Having to block out 4 hours for them to come service my unit requires me to take time off of work. But, then it's a no show. When I call them after they miss the appointment window, they apologize, but make me reschedule for weeks ahead of time. The whole day is shot. They have now done this to me twice.

After several years of dealing with cheaper options, primarily technicians moonlighting on the side, we decided to try out one of these bigger companies to try to resolve an issue that we've had for the past several years.

Originally I thought that we would go with another company that we were somewhat familar with.  Mainly because we've used some of their technicians that were doing jobs on the side before and have seen their trucks around our neighborhood recently.

But decided to have Sila confirm the diagnosis and the work that needs to be done.  And to make sure that the price quote was within range.

Your experience might vary with the technician you get but Jose A. at Sila really won us over.  The prices at Sila, estimate and actual work to be done, was slightly higher than the first company.  But we really appreciated Jose's methodology and explaination of every detail.  So decided to go with Sila.

We weren't sure if Jose would be the tech that would do the actual repairs and were happy to see that he was.  Sure enough after the work was done, it was apparent and confirmed that he covered every little detail discussed during the diagnosis without us having to ask about it.

So will definitely check out Sila again in the future.

I recently purchased a condo that had a 20 year old HVAC system.  Although everything was functional, the AC performance was very poor and I wanted to install a high efficiency system, which necessitated the replacement of all the system components.  I also wanted to replace a gas tank water heater with a tankless unit.  My research on HVAC systems kept coming back to the same point - the brand of the system purchased mattered much less than the quality of the contractor doing the work.  I knew this wouldn't be the simplest install - a crane would be needed to place the compressor on the roof, there were changes needed to vents that ran onto the roof the building, and all this was being installed in a closet in a 2 BR unit.  Sila wasn't the cheapest quote I received, but I ultimately selected them to do the work because they seemed to be the best equipped to handle the job.  They ended up doing a fantastic job - from presenting me with a plan on what work needed to be done, showing up right on time, and doing a fantastic job with the quality of the install.  I love the new systems - both the HVAC and the tankless hot water are head and shoulders about what I had before.  I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anyone who's looking to replace their HVAC or hot water.

My 2 ton heat pump was malfunctioning and I called 3 HVAC companies to determine the problem and suggest solutions. The first quoted me $6500 to replace the unit, or $450 to replace a key part that wasn't working properly, but recommended that I go for the full replace as my unit is 15 years old. The second quoted me a lower price ($550) and also told me I had a freon leak. Joey from Sila visited last. He couldn't have been friendlier and more knowledgable. He quickly determined that some switches were set incorrectly, changed the settings, and the problem was fixed! He also went out of his way to check the air flow in each room as well as several other ancillary details. I highly recommend.

Initially had a good experience with this company. Bought an AC tuneup and it seemed they'd exceeded expectations. However turns out the technician had fixed things that weren't broken and what he did caused my unit to freeze and unnecessarily left me without AC for 2 days with 90 degree weather. A month later my blower motor broke and though they didn't charge a service call to diagnose on account of the problems they'd caused previous month, Sila quoted $2100 to fix it. Called another company who's doing it for $1125! Do not plan to use Sila again.

Our heat broke, and with the abnormally cold weather we were very concerned about getting it fixed in time. Sila came within a few hours, and our technician was extremely informative and helpful. He fixed the problem promptly and showed me some other quick fixes I could do on my own. I would definitely recommend them in the future!

What a great experience with Sila throught the entire process.  From the first phone call to schedule a service call for a spring checkup and to check out a fan noise, through the service call, I'm not sure I've worked with a more professional and efficient company.  The woman I spoke with to schedule the appointment handled everything quickly and professionally.  Billy was the service technician for my job.  He showed up early, and was very polite and engaging.  He did an extremely thorough job and fully explained all he was doing and why.  He even tried making friends with my dog (who was being particularly shy and unfriendly that day).  Even before Billy was finished with the inspection, I had decided to sign up for a yearly service contract.  I highly recommend this company.

We've had Sila install a high velocity system in our 1928 row home in Hampden, and a zoned mini-split system in our 200 year old stone house in Stone Hill.  Different projects, different technologies, different challenges.  However, what was strikingly similar in both cases was the professionalism and competency of Sila personnel, and the quality of materials used (both in places I could see and in places I could not see) throughout both projects.  Which is why they're not the cheapest guys in town, but neither are they the most expensive.  I could not imagine dealing with a different vendor for this kind of work.  Based on these two projects, 5 stars seems deserved.

Excellent service for installation of a tankless hot water heater.  Area clean after it was completed and communicated with me via my preferred mode (text message) during the installation to update me on progress, send photos, and check that we were satisfied with everything.  Having worked with Sila for past several years (AC, annual AC and boiler maintenance), they are my go company and I recommend them without hesitation.

Sila installed our central air conditioning and we were very pleased with the work, pricing, and followup service. Our home has radiators and has no duct system. Their system required minimal alterations to our home when other companies wanted to rip out closets and add columns. This system is ideal for older homes. We are now cool in the summer and thankful that we found Sila. We have received excellent service and I highly recommend this company.

I'm surprised by all the negative reviews on here. This company is very well rated on some of the other review sites out there.  I did not originally find this company through Yelp, but my experience was superb so I wanted to throw a shout-out here too.

Last week, my A/C suddenly went dead.  It was moving air but the air was not being chilled.

After reading the reviews on another site, I decided I'd contact Sila to schedule an appointment.  It was after normal business hours, so I used a form on their website to initiate the process.  The next day, I followed up with a phone call to the company.  I spoke with Jonathan and  I was pleasantly surprised by how professional and peppy Jonathan was.  I started the conversation by mentioning that I had filled out their online form.  I then worked with Jonathan to schedule a time; one week out was the earliest appointment available.  As I was supplying him my personal information, my cell phone reception dropped out and I lost the call.  I was frantic to get back on the line and to finish the process to reserve that time slot.  I was having trouble re-connecting, so I paused for a minute, and within that time Jonathan had searched through their website form information to collection the remaining information.  He left a voicemail to tell me that he had found the required information and to confirm the appointment time.  WHEN DOES THAT EVER HAPPEN?!  Since it's most often the case, I just assumed I'd be waiting in the queue again and get someone else and have to start the whole process from scratch.

One week later.  Vince was my technician and arrived smack-dab in the middle of the two-hour service window.  Vince was a soft spoken and personable guy.  He was very professional and politely laughed at my corny jokes inspired by my broken AC unit and sweltering home: Close the door before all this cold air gets out!  He worked efficiently to identify the problem.  It was a broken capacitor within the compressor.  He had the part in his truck and he quickly scrambled up a ladder to replace it.  He took some time to tell me a bit about my system and provided some honest and worthwhile advice.  I would ask for him again by name in the future.

Some other reviews I've read knocked this company on their prices for parts.  I would just remind people that the fee that covers just the tech coming out is pretty modest and could not possibly pay for all the people behind the scenes that made this service so streamlined and hassle free.  My time is my most valuable asset and they really came through in that regard.

Johnathon, Alex, Eric, and Vince worked tirelessly over two days to overcome a botched HVAC installation with multiple mislabelings to get our heat working so we could weather a cold weekend. They were courteous and upbeat and even left us with spare space heaters when they had to return the next day with a specialty part. Truly great service and excellent people.

I would not recommend this company. SILA would not stand by a warranty for a furnace component that they sold and installed only a year prior to it's going bad. They also quoted me a price for another system repair that was more than twice the amounts that were quoted by other HVAC firms. Use them at your own risk.

Sila was the most professional, organized, neat and lived up to every bit of their promises when selling me the system. I took 6 months to decide which company to use to install AC in my 100 yr old home - Sila was the best choice by far. Thank you to the entire Sila team for their on time work, customer service and organization. You guys rock! And bonus - even though we got our AC installed in Nov we had record breaking temps in the 80's the very next day - so we got to use it! Quiet as a whisper....THANK YOU.

SILA is great for cleaning and doing yearly inspections; they usually have a coupon in the Post on Thursdays. But if you have anything wrong, expect to pay about twice the price to fix the issue. And... they were also suggesting to me that I replace the AC system, as it was 15 years old. Cost..about $8-12K. Another company MPEnergy fixed the probelm for $335 and said I was probably good for another 5 years. I liked that answer.

Sila came out to do an estimate for adding a room to our heating system, and to do an A/C repair. They were prompt and friendly. They couldn't perform the service that day for other reasons (a raccoon in the attic!) but I was very happy with their honesty and effort.
