Best System Maintenance in Oakland CA
We needed some solution towards issues with allergies , forced heat air when it is cold and didn't appreciate cold floors. So, we found this company! We had our home installed with heated floors. It was the best decision ever!
We had warm floors installed throughout the first floor of our home. Not only did it provide energy efficiency, it provides comfort throughout those really cold months. When we turn on our heater, we don't experience hot air blowing to our faces anymore. It's comfortable and toasty inside while it is freezing cold outside. In fact, I am able to wear shorts and tank top inside the home because of how comfortable the temperature is. The warmth also goes up to the 2nd floor!
Service was great! They answered all our questions and assisted with whatever we wanted to know. It is a great long term investment plus definitely adds value to your home! I definitely recommend this company for your heated floors installation. It was the best investment!

I called Harry Clark for a 2nd bid on my lateral sewer break which was in the roadway. Brad, the owner, came out. I knew I would be spending several thousand dollars and wanted to look at the price carefully. I had called the City to inform myself about permits and learned that the City's two permits were $650, down from $800 as of July 1. I later learned from Harry Clark's receptionist that the EBMUD permit was $150. Brad began by telling me the price was the price and it had no components. When I balked at this he added that the permits alone were $1300. When I told him what I knew he became defensive, angry that I might be questioning his honesty. That I most decidedly do now. When I interjected a further difference between what he was telling me was the cost and what I knew to be true he called me an asshole and stalked off saying I hope you pay $8000 for your sewer repair. Harry Clark making friends in the neighborhood! I strongly suggest when hiring these folks to examine their permit charges closely!!

If you need sewer work done, I can highly recommend Star Rooter & Plumbing (510 481 1555).
As you may know, all of the sewer agencies in the East Bay are under a consent decree to reduce the inflow and infiltration into the sewer laterals (the pipes that connect the houses to the sewers in the street). To figure out which laterals are leaking the sewers are smoke tested, i.e. smoke is blown into the sewers and observations are made of where it is escaping.
Smoke was escaping from my lateral so I had to replace it. The first plumber I called wanted $260 to do a TV inspection of the lateral before they would quote a price. A second plumber provided a free TV inspection and quoted me a price of $3,600 to replace the lateral, but did not seem to know the City of Berkeley program and procedures. Since what I really needed was the certificate that my lateral had been replaced, I called a third company, Star.
They did another TV inspection, quoted me a price of $3,700, and went and got the City permit the same day.
They arrived on time on the day the work was to be done, had a huge amount of equipment, pipe burst my lateral, pulling in a new plastic one, connected up five different pipes to the new lateral, had the installation successfully inspected, backfilled the pits they had dug, and cleaned up by evening.
I am pretty sure that the number of connections they had to make was more than they had anticipated but they did not try to raise their price on me.
Great work!
Ask for Luis Arechiga.
A few weeks later, Hal Reynolds across the street had to replace his lateral. I recommended Star to him. He hired them. They sent a different crew that was equally effective. Another one day job.

Great experience. Our furnace conked out this weekend, and our regular servicer couldn't come until the end of the week. Mr. Harrison came within hours of my call, and was thorough, efficient, and friendly. The cost for the replacement of the igniter was $250, all told, which seems to me likely the going rate. I'll use them again.

Joe to the rescue again! Called on a Friday morning with a leak under my kitchen sink and Joe showed up in less than 40 minutes. I've used him on many occasions and he always does an excellent job. Joe is very honest, trustworthy, and his prices are affordable. He's also got a great attitude and a big heart!
Thank you Joe for helping me out yet again! You saved me!

These guys are awesome! Jaime and his colleague came to my house to fix the plumbing in my laundry room. They not only fixed the problem with the hot water outlet but also installed a hot/cold outdoor faucet on the outside of the house so that I could hose off my dogs without subjecting them to cold water. They were professional, courteous and willing to go the extra mile...and they did not charge exorbitant rates for their service. I highly recommend H&R Plumbing for your plumbing needs. Thank you so much for your excellent service!

My condo had a small leak so I scheduled the work with a plumbing company. The plumbing company I scheduled the work with ended up cancelling on me last minute so I ended up calling Avalon Services. They were able to come the same day. I was very happy with how fast they responded to my service call. Highly recommend.

Andrew was awesome, arrived as scheduled, made a professional introduction, and quickly diagnosed multiple outlet issues. He clearly explained the issue in a manner I could understand, obviously a very knowledgeable pro. Also, I felt very comfortable due to his polite and friendly manner through the process. He gave three options, and discussed the variables with honestly. Then he helped me get an expeditious repair appointment based on my availability, and gave me his followup contact info in case anything fell through.
Extremely satisfied! Also have had great experience with several other pros from the company.

I discovered that my water heater had died at 11:00 on a Saturday night. Yaro responded to my inquiry within an hour, and was there Sunday morning at 8:30, as promised, for a consultation. By 11:30, he had installed a new water heater and neatly removed all the debris from the old one! His service was polite, efficient, and competent. Thank you, Yaro!!

Does a labor rate of $600 per hour for a plumber plus helper seem reasonable?
Two guys came to my house for about 3.5 hours
After an initial estimate for a faucet install for $300, I got upsold on several little things which needed doing without being clear on how much it would cost me. Some of them I could have done myself.
When they were done, they hit me with a bill for $2250. Total materials costs were well under $100.
I felt exploited. That is a $10 per minute for a plumber + assistant
My bad for not being more wary. Quality of work was good but that was a bit of a sticker shock. Buyer beware.
I have not had much plumbing done in the SF Bay Area so it is possible this is normal, but it seems outrageous to me.

The reason this isn't one star is that the work was done well. That said, my interactions with Leigh Marymor left me severely concerned with his competence and integrity. We had a bid for him to replace our water pipes and install a new tankless water heater on the exterior of our garage. This was to be done while I was away on my honeymoon.
Problem #1: setbacks. He didn't seem to know the regulations regarding setback for an exterior mount. He said 4' to the property line, which is what we have. Later my HVAC guy says that this is wrong, and that it's 4' plus the depth of the heater itself. I tell Leigh and he says we should change the plan to an interior mount. He acknowledges no error on his part. It is now 1 week before my honeymoon.
This requires additional venting. Leigh and I had discussed this in-person with my contractor. My contractor was going to do the venting and estimated about $1,200 extra. Two days before my honeymoon, he tells me that Leigh said it requires special ducting with which he has no experience, and he would rather Leigh do it. Leigh agrees to do it, for $3,000. So much for my bid. Leigh accepts no responsibility, and says that my contractor must have been confused, when I personally was present and Leigh mentioned nothing about this.
A month later Leigh's guys come to do the venting. They arrive with no information about our plans, which Leigh knew. They pull out the manual for the water heater. They ask ME whether the ducting should go to the left or right of the water heater, as if I know? I mention to them the big expansion project which will alter the garage. Leigh didn't tell them. I have to get drawings for them. Later they tell me they need me to ask the neighbor for permission to put a ladder on their property, or else they can't proceed and need to build scaffolding.
Just to put a cherry on top, weeks later one of his team mentions to me offhandedly that the water heater cannot be in a dusty environment. Our contractor is doing major work using the garage as the base. We have a 6 month expansion project, using the garage as the base. Dust levels are immense. Leigh knew about all of this, and did an untenable install. Leigh takes no responsibility and I have to pay my contractor to reverse the air intake to go through the garage wall. Afterwards Leigh generously comes out to clean up the job I paid for.
I can believe that lots of people have had good luck. But you're rolling the dice.

Toilet - FULL toilet - backs up Friday afternoon before Christmas weekend. House full of family.
After calling a couple recommended plumbers (sorry - we're booked), one suggested Albert Nahman Plumbing. 45 minutes later, Sal and Damian show up to save the day. Efficient, knowledgeable, professional, friendly and super, super clean. I can't come up w/ enough compliments.
Thank you, Albert Nahman Plumbing and Heating.
