they rock! called at 10 am, they came by at 1:30 pm (yes, I was the lucky recipient of a cancellation), the guy immediately knew what was wrong, was super nice and super careful not to damage anything. Then he drove around to find the needed part (yes, I paid for that time which is only fair), came back, installed and cleaned up. Super impressed!

I wish I could give them zero stars, but Yelp does not allow that :(

I had very much hoped to have a positive experience with Harry Clark, as my realtor recommended them when I bought a house and needed to have the sewer lateral replaced. Unfortunately, the initial experience having the lateral replaced was negative, and then months later it all turned terrible.

I do not recommend Harry Clark at all. It seems like they were good way back when, but they are not good any longer.

I got a bid from HC to replace the sewer lateral using the pipe bursting method which is the easiest, fastest and least expensive method. I thought, though I will admit that I may have heard incorrectly, that they said the job would take 2 days total. The HC crew came out and started work, dug up some dirt and cut a hole in the sidewalk. They piled the dirt up against the side of the house which is less than ideal. Then they disappeared. A few days passed and there appeared to be little to no progress and there was never any report to me by anyone on the crew or by a supervisor or the office as to any progress, next steps, or delays on the project - basically it was a mystery.

I emailed the office after a few days to inquire as to what was going on and was told that a supervisor would contact me which never happened. The next day the crew was out again and I believe they mostly completed the job. However, they also damaged my gate. I emailed the office with a picture and to their credit someone came out the next day and replaced and painted the damaged gate board. At this point the job was still not completed and there was a big metal plate in the street covering up the hole they dug there and some orange cones left around here and there. This was the situation for about another week. My neighbors were annoyed as was I, and we all were wondering when the heck HC would come out and patch the street, pick up their cones, and complete the job.

I contacted the office again and was told that it would be completed in the next few days which it was. Overall, it took way longer than I was told, there was no communication, and my fence was damaged. My new neighbors who had similar work done by another plumber had theirs completed in 2 days. Overall, not great or particularly professional, but I thought everything was completed and good.

Fast forward about 12 months and things get bad: My elderly neighbor had a suspected sewer leak between our two houses. I arranged for a different plumbing company to come out and do a FREE inspection (HC does not do this!) and they discovered that my neighbor's sewer and mine were joined together! When the houses where built in 1926 this was allowed, but it is NOT allowed any longer. Harry Clark had illegally, and against building code re-connected the two sewer lines together and somehow managed to get the city and EBMUD to sign off on the work. The city says they would never sign off on this, so clearly HC hid the illegal connection. This is a big no-no.  So, to keep it short, many many months of emails and calls back and forth with the city of Oakland and HC and other plumbers for professional opinions and there is still no resolution. I offered to Brad Marshall, one of the owners of HC, that they could either refund my money for the illegal, not to code, unprofessional work they performed while trespassing on my neighbor's property, or they could come out and re-do the work properly. At this point they have gone silent and are not responding.

Next week I will be initiating a complaint with the Contractors State License board, initiating a claim with the Bonding Company that Harry Clark uses, initiating a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, and filing a Small Claims case. What a pain in the butt. My realtor is obviously no longer recommending HC and a house inspector friend of mine has removed HC from his list of local service providers.

And, my neighbor is getting ready to sell her house, and the current joined sewer laterals are definitely going to be a problem.

Based on my experiences with HC it is my my opinion that Brad Marshall and Harry Clark are dishonest, unprofessional, unreliable and do not stand behind their work, and I would never use Harry Clark again and recommend that you do not either.

Family owned and service-oriented. We've used them for a few years and they just replaced our old furnace, which crapped out on us. Unlike other companies that push a new furnace on their first visit, they took apart our furnace and for two days, tried to fix it. Unfortunately, our furnace was an off-kelter brand no longer in production and their recommendation was that we might be better off with a new furnace. They absorbed the 2 days of work they did and we decided to go for it - they knew what they were doing and trusted their judgement.

Don is really nice, competent (son of the owner) and very service oriented.  They tend to be pretty busy and while it took them around two weeks before they could put a new furnace in, we remain  loyal customers.

Just got my heater installed.  The estimator, Don, was very knowledgable, and promised us we would be happy with upgrade he recommended.  We are.  The heater is silent and very efficient.  The work is very tidy and the new unit is much smaller than my outdated, asbestos ridden machine.

Definitely will recommend to others.

Been an annual customer of Harry Clark for many years, and 2 houses. Always do a great job. Technicians are very knowledgeable and seem passionate about what they do.  Our furnace broke down right before Christmas, all furnace places were of course overbooked. Got an appointment with Harry Clark for the next day, they ordered the new motor for my furnace and was installed the next day. We had heat for Christmas! Reasonable prices, great service! Friendly workers.
(My furnace broke down on a weekend and I had called other emergency repair places, they told me it would be at least a week, plus would have been double the price what I paid with Harry Clark)  I'm never going to bother with anyone else, Harry Clark Plumbing and heating is amazing!

Professional, well priced, respectful of home and timely.
I got several bids to replace a 1930's gravity furnace. Harry Clark was well recommended and happen to come in at the lowest cost. They arranged asbestos removal and schedule the work to begin immediately. The workers on site were conscious of their surrounds and cleaned up after themselves at every opportunity. They explained all of the extra procedures and walked me through the job as a whole.
I would recommend them in the future.

I called Harry Clark Plumbing for a sewer lateral inspection since we bought our house on a short sale a few years ago and bought the house as is.   Bradley came out, early for his appointment,  and set up his camera and discovered that our sewer line was, first of all, clay pipe all the way to the street.  Ten feet of it was cracked and spewing raw sewage into the ground.  He quickly went over my options, including how I might repair some of the other plumbing issues connected to the drainage system.  I was given a quote on the spot and a crew, Franky and Juan, came out, on time, in the afternoon and began replacement of the entire line using polyethylene pipe all the way to the street.  These guys worked hard and kept  me informed on the process from beginning to end.

I would use Harry Clark Plumbing again for future work.

The work Jaime did at our East Bay property this week was 5star. He grasped the situation, gave some ideas and options and executed successfully. Could have been a big problem but I wasn't worried. He was a pro and put my concerns first.

Just had Don of Harry Clark out to look at our furnace and replace a belt.  On time, fixed the problem and showed me how to fix some other stuff with the furnace and vents.  He also engaged the dog with some fetch.  Reasonably-priced.  We have used them before for some plumbing emergencies and they always come through, and with good service.

Harry Clark cost me money and time as I was trying to sell my house in the Oakland hills.  They have hyped themselves as the experts on the recent requirement for an EBMUD Certificate of Compliance on any sewer lateral older than 10 years to real estate companies all over the area. Not true! My Realtor had heard their hype,  however, and called them to test my lateral.

My situation is a little different in that I have an ejector pump that pumps sewage to the main line....but plumbers are usually aware that water goes down, not up. When their tester came out, he pointed out that the lateral was not slanted down to the main and therefore was not correct.  Hmmmm.  Why would I have a pump if gravity would do it? He didn't get that. His report (took a week to get it) was Bull****.  Absolutely inaccurate.  His boss agreed and said he would come out and give us a new report.

Again, a week went by and then his boss sent my Realtor a non-report.  It said absolutely nothing.  I wondered what EBMUD would think when they got it.  This guy also said one thing to me and contradicted himself to my Realtor.  A simple hurdle was getting ridiculously out of hand.

I called another company and they got the whole thing taken care of in two days. Done.

I have used Harry Clark for HVAC maintenance, since they put in my furnace and HVAC system when I built the house in 2001.  I had no idea their plumbing services were so poor.  Do yourself a favor, tell your Realtor not to call them when you want to sell your house and need a sewer lateral test.   Hire Pipe Spy!!

Excellent plumbers: they show up on time, get the job done right and finish on time and are courteous and clean.  I've used them many times without any surprises.  I just had a water heater replaced.  I'm sure I could have gotten it done cheaper but it's nice to know that I'm in good hands.

I had a great experience with Harry Clark. I got to request the same person several times and for different plumbing problems.

The fellow was respectful, kept things clean, and was very cool with showing me what he was doing.

Later on, I had a plumbing question and they answered it even though it ment they had to do a little online leg work with me and they didn't have to come out -- definately recommend them.

We've had Harry Clark do several jobs for us -- the biggest being a retrofit on a very problematic sewer lateral. They've always been very fast to respond -- the office staff have always been friendly and professional -- and their work has been excellent. Our latest experience was just this week. We had a new range ready to install, but needed our natural-gas plumbing evaluated. Harry Clark managed to get someone out to us despite the holiday rush. The plumber, Weston, was very helpful and completed the range installation for us. (Thank you.)

I have been using Harry Clark Plumbing & Heating for the past 4 years for our office building as well as residential properties and even our own home. I can't say enough good things about them! Between Karen and Daniel being incredibly friendly, responsive and supportive in the office to Don, Bradley, Steve, Matthew, and the rest of the crew in the field are excellent and always follow up with calls/emails! Thank you thank you!!

Got a bid that was completely incomprehensible.  They kept pushing rebates and neglected to mention the price. They finally gave me a number.  They scared me off.  These people are in the business of selling you the most expensive system possible instead of giving you quality.  The seem to thrive on their rep that they have been in Berkeley for a long time and know what you need.

I needed to replace the tub drain assembly in my bathroom. While replacing the assembly the Harry Clark technician chipped the bathtub enamel. He was apologetic and immediately called the company, didn't make me pay right away, etc. But when I spoke to the main office at HC they refused to take responsibility and said they couldn't possibly predict what would happen with such an old tub (each time I spoke with them their estimate of the age of my tub went up 10 years). I argued that I should have at least been warned there would be a possibility of this damage happening, but they made it seem like it was my fault for not knowing and refused to pay (even partly) to get the enamel fixed. The repair cost was $350 so not break the bank but also not negligible. Harry Clark made me feel like this was par for the course, so imagine my surprise when I called a different company to get the enamel fixed and that company immediately asked, are you paying for this or is the plumber? I also told them what Harry Clark said about my tub being really old and they responded, your tub is not that old.

I understand mishaps happen unexpectedly but feeling like I have been lied to and taken advantage of is completely unacceptable.

They recently installed a Mitsubishi split air system in my Oakland loft. The service has been friendly, professional and competent. The quote I received was more than reasonable, the installation was very clean/looks great, and they stand by their work if you have any issues. These guys have experience installing this great technology, and it being slow to catch on here in the US it's hard to find a lot of folks like this. Plus--I have AC in the summer and heat in the winter in a home that is difficult for temperature control.

I recommend looking into a ductless split air system if you have trouble keeping your home comfortable, and I highly recommend Harry Clark Heating and Plumbing to do the job.

I have used HC for about 13 years now for my business, from everything from installing hot water heaters and floor drains, to clearing a blocked floor sink. They are very responsive to my emergency calls and have helped get my business back up and running quickly.

I have NEVER had a problem with their quality of work, the employees they send to take care of the problem, or responsiveness. I consider HC a partner in my business and will continue to use them. I can't speak to how cheap or expensive they are, because I don't shop around and I realize that running a quality business is expensive. Having said that, I don't like paying bills any more than the next guy, but when I pay my bill for HC, I feel like I am being charged a reasonable amount for the service I received. I have no complaints and will continue to used HC Plumbing as long as I own my business.

Completely incompetent people and unreliable company!  Take your business elsewhere. Completely misdiagnosed our plumbing issue, charged us a bunch of money for unneeded repairs and had to deal with unprofessional managers - Brad in particular - who berated us for questioning the service. There are so many better choices. Learn from us and steer clear of Harry Clark!!

I waited four days for them to try to fix my sink. I told them I had to come from work before getting home and it would take me 20 minutes to get there.. The day the work was to be done  they didn't call me because they wrote the  phone number wrong, assumed I was supposed to be at home exactly on the hour, did not contact me beforehand, like a day or two before, and took off before I got home.  This really upset me. It was over the weekend as to why I waited so long without water. Then after I told them I work in the mornings, they could only schedule in the morning.  I would not recommend them if you work and can't be home before three. I will never use them again.

My home was purchased in 1967 and had an old furnace which was functional but over the past twelve years i was using space heaters because I thought they were cleaner and I did not need to heat the entire house during the daytime.  I finally decided that space heaters had fire risk dangers even using dedicated circuits so I decided to inform myself as much as possible on furnace installation.  I then had five furnace installation companies come to my home to assess my needs, provide information on what they recommended and send me an estimate for the costs for their installation.  I chose Harry Clark Plumbing and Heating for the following reasons:  1.They listened to what I wanted for my home heating. 2. They made a thorough assessment of the layout which would be most efficient re duct system, furnace placement, and air filter system. (Their plan was by far the most efficient as compared to the other companies proposals) 3. The cost estimate was the best offer with two of the companies coming at $2500.00 more than the Harry Clark estimate. I was very pleased when my decision was shown to be the right one. The foreman on the job was excellent. He walked through the layout plan always open to questions, input or suggestions from me.  All the workmen on this job were courteous, friendly, and always cleaned up before leaving each day. The cost came as quoted.  The use of the system was thoroughly explained when the job was completed and I feel very comfortable in being able to call if any questions arise. I feel very fortunate to have found this company to install my furnace.

We had a great experience with a Harry Clark plumber named Buck who not only solved a persistent leak in our kitchen faucet, but he got us free parts from the manufacturer to fix it. Previous efforts by another plumber were completely ineffective so getting Buck on the problem was a huge relief. He clearly has extensive experience and is very wise about all issues related to plumbing. We highly recommend Harry Clark Plumbing if that means Buck is on the case.

I'd give 0 stars if I could. I bought a house and the previous owner was supposed to take care of the sewer lateral.  Harry Clark came and did the inspection. When I called them for information, they refused to tell me anything. Then a few months later, I get a call saying they were putting a LIEN on my property! Supposedly they had a lawyer and had been down at the court house already. I freak out- how did they do $8000 worth of work on my property without me knowing? I call them back after looking into it. Then they decide to let me know that they mixed up the paper work but my property needs $8000 worth of work which I will need to pay for even though someone else promised to pay. I got a 2nd quote- turns out to be a fraction of the price. I would NOT recommend doing business with these people who mix up paper work, lie to customers, and inflate prices.

The plumber we got was an idiot.  The plumber was paid to find nothing, after which we ended up paying a substantial amount to a roofer to do the plumber's job.  We are NOT happy.  Harry Clark Plumbing was called to our townhome by our realtor to determine why there was  subtle water damage in the downstairs bathroom roof, a bulge in the paint caught during a home inspection prior to listing the home for sale.  The leak was not currently active, and we had already moved out.  The plumber investigated, said none of the pipes were leaking, and that it was likely the roof.  We contacted the homeowners association to get a roofer out, who found no issues with the roof but decided to check the upstairs bathroom as a possible cause.  The roofer went to the upstairs bathroom, turned on the shower, and immediately found the leak.  Great job, roofer!  Shame on you, Henry Clark Plumbing!

The entire company from the people that helped schedule the jobs to the service professionals that came out to our home were fantastic.  We had a 100+ year old home in Oakland that had a gas line that was leaking in the kitchen and they were able to immediately identify the leak and replace the valve.  They also hooked up our new gas range and did all the appropriate tests to confirm proper function and no additional gas leaks in the home.  Separately we had them come out to install a new toilet in our downstairs half bath.  Within an hour the new toilet was installed and running better than we could have hoped saving us water.  Fast, efficient and fair priced for each service.  Communication was outstanding We could not be happier and highly recommend.

I'll preface my recent bad experience with Harry Clark by saying that I've used these guys twice in the past for heating and I've been very satisfied with their service in that department. They are certainly not the cheapest, but they've been prompt and competent.

I recently used Harry Clark Plumbing to install a new water heater and I have to say I was really disappointed. They charged A LOT of money, which I expected, but I also expected premium sevice. Their communication was terrible and they were completely unwilling to accommodate a few requests I had about the way the job should be done.

I won't go into technical details, but I called the technician 4 TIMES to discuss the job and was blown-off completely. I'm someone who knows a bit about construction and I know that my requests were in line with what I was paying. In the end they just did things the way they felt like doing them. Given the short amount of time that their guys were out at the house and the price of the materials I'm sure they are making real money on this and I know they could have done better.

I'm not saying they're bad at what they do, but I would advise shopping around first before using them. I think that when you pay a premium price you should get great service, and Harry Clark Plumbing really did not deliver.

I have managed rental property for several years. Whether it is the plumbing/heating technician or the person answering the phone,I have always received exceptional service. Harry Clark Plumbing stands by their work they do. Tenants/home/businesses feel comfortable having the technicians work on the problem at hand. From replacing hot water heaters, repiping galvanized pipes to copper /central heat/or just fixing toilets/sink/shower faucets..this company goes that extra mile.

Look no further!!!!

Harry Clark did a complete sewer installation for an old 4 plex.  It was done expediently.  The crew of Juan and Martin arrived on time and worked hard to get the job done quickly so the tenants Would not be inconvenienced.  The city inspector and Harry Clark's crew found that the adjoining sewer asphalt was not compacted.  Harry Clark took it upon themselves to rectify the asphalt of the neighbors when their plumber did not respond.  Also when Harry Clark pours asphalt it is level and tight which allows one to sweep it easily.

I feel This  company is honest and farir as well as great problem solvers.  At another time, I had a suspicious leak in the basement.  The owner came out and could tell where the leak was beginning without tearing into any walls.  I would use them again without hesitation.

We used Harry Clark Plumbing and Heating to replace a tankless water heater and we are so glad we did. From start to finish, we felt confident with them.  Everyone we  dealt with from Brad, the estimator and owner, to Nick and Kevin, the technicians who installed the heater, were efficient and professional. On the day of installation the wrong water heater was sent ( a problem of the supplier, not Harry Clark's). Nick and Kevin could have called it a day and rescheduled our install, but they knew we were without hot water and wanted to make sure we had some going into the weekend. After multiple calls and driving some distance, they found the right unit and installed it that day. We truly appreciated the effort and kindness that they showed and now have all the hot water we ever need. And, one of the best parts? Their bid was 1/2 the price of the other bids I received. I highly recommend Harry Clark Plumbing and Heating.

I live in an apartment. The apartment owner called Harry Clark plumbing to assess the brown water coming out of my bathroom pipes. Plumber Buck Court arrived and began checking the situation. After about 5 minutes, he said was leaving, and would give owner a report. I asked him what he ended up doing in the bathroom. He said he could not tell me because of his business ethics. I asked again (maybe he misunderstood?) He said again in a more huffy tone, you can ask the owner. Interesting ... I told him I'd have never heard of that being a renter for many years, I am only asking what you JUST did. To my statement of I have never heard of that he smart-assly replied, well now you have, turned on his heel, and walked out my house saying, smart-assly again, you have a great day.  I slammed the door behind him and locked it. Not to keep him out, but to keep me from going out and cussing him. WOW .... To the man who has these upstanding business ethics.... what about your ethics in dealing with people? Specifically the strangers who are at your mercy as you come into our homes. What about your ethics with treating people with regard when they ask simple questions after dealing with issues such as mine for two months? (I live here, pay rent and potentially bath in rusty water ... the least you can do is tell me what the hell you just did?! Not asking for the big picture, cost, ultimate break down) What about understanding that your attitude is as important as your skills when it comes to getting a call back? Which, by the way, you will not from this unit. Unfortunately these guys could be the best out there, but I will never know and will never refer them. This is my experience. Now, I AM going to go have a great day.
FYI -- I also called the company and lodged a complaint. They received it and apologized.

I have had great experiences with Harry Clark.  Brad, the owner, is very transparent and honest.  The workers they've sent to my house have been very professional.  The prices are competitive with other plumbers in the Berkeley/Oakland area (I've bid all my jobs out to various companies).  When I hired these guys to replace my storm drain and sump pump for several thousand dollars, they uncovered some very functional existing infrastructure during the process, alerted me about it, reused it, and cut the cost and time of my job in half.  Many people would've just kept moving forward with the original job.  That alone made me trust them.  They replaced my sewer lateral (as was mandated by the City), and when there was a backup after the replacement, I panicked.  I called them on Sunday, and they had a guy at my house by 9am Monday.  After inspecting my pipe and property, he determined it was Berkeley City's fault.  He called them, and the City sent a crew over to fix the backup ASAP.  Trust them.

Our family took advantage of the government energy rebate two years ago and had nothing but a stellar experience from start to finish with Harry Clark.

Their price was competitive.  Their suggestions were appropriate.  They juggled their schedule to get our furnace installed in time to meet the deadline. They encouraged us to go for a better system and guess what......IT WAS COMPLETELY WORTH IT!!!! We didn't know what it was like to breathe FRESH air inside our home and for heat to be properly disbursped within our two story home.

We ended up getting FOUR estimates and theirs was fair.  One highly recommended company was so overwhelmed by our needs that he never even sent us an estimate or finished the tour.  Another we asked to line item in the proposal the different scenarios of work and he quoted just half the work in one bulk.  Harry Clark did exactly as I asked.....they listened and performed from the start. Harry Clark didn't make our needs seem unusual.

One day I came home with a full car load of groceries and the guys helped me carry the bags in.....talk about service with a smile.

I can't say enough good things about our experience with Harry Clark Plumbing and Heating. I am on my way to purchase a new filter and remembered I never wrote them a review....shame on me!

Harry Clark was referred to me by an old-time Oaklander for my new heating system since he has used them before and was happy with their service and work. I called and Don Marshall came out very promptly and the conversation I had with him was one of the most intelligent and informative contractor talks I've ever had. No hard sale, straight, honest, and he ran down a comparison of different furnaces, their pros and cons. No question is too small for Don; he answered time patiently and added more information than I'd have anticipated. He's also very knowledgeable when it comes to home heating and installing heating systems, as well as other home improvement options. No surprise really; they've been around for many many years, longer than most heating companies.

The subsequent follow up and follow through with my new heating system was some of the best I've experienced. Don kept a polite yet friendly contact with me at all times and answered any question I have over the phone or email, before and after I signed the contract and before I paid them!

On installation: their crew spent three days. Like Don says: we'd rather do the job right and spend more time than finish the job fast. True to their words, they took time to explain things to me. I had a couple of side jobs not included in the contract and they finished them for me at a very reasonable surcharge, happily regarding them as part of the project. Their crew is courteous, on time, tidy, and helpful.

I'm sorry to see so many negative feedbacks on Harry Clark in the area of plumbing. The Harry Clark I know and who came to finish my heating system is definitely pros with a neighborly feel to them. I'd recommend them to anyone without hesitation.

Excellent work at a moderate price. We have used Harry Clark many times over the years. Multiple plumbing repairs, new main furnace and duct-work, and just 2 days ago on New Years Eve a gas valve replacement for our 53 year old secondary furnace.

We know that if we need it done right, we call Harry Clark.....

You might think calling the biggest and the best could be both expensive and risky.  Like those big casinos.  How did they get so big? Not true.  Harry Clark has been the turn to plumbing and HVAC guy I've turned to for work.  They do the job, they explain what they are doing, and they fix what was broke and they offer maintenence that will avoid future emergencies.  Prior to calling Harry Clark I called another company for a heating pump that was not working.  They said that they would need to check it out and make their evaluation, then tell me the next step.  So the inspection alone was being charged then they would have to order the pump then install it.  By the time I hung up on them, it was already a $300.-$500.00 bill.  I hung up.
I called Harry Clark.  Told them my pump didn't work.  RON arrived at the time scheduled. They (RON) came in with the pump and did make the inspection.  It was fried.  Replaced it snap.  Checked for gas leak.  FOUND a leak in the pipe fitting.  Fixed it.  All good.  Harry Clark.  Worth the peace of mind.
By the way.  They charged me $99.00 for the pump which you can buy online for $64.00. That's pretty fair if you asked me.  And I know it was exactly perfect for the job.
Thanks RON.  Great job.

I really like the folks at Harry Clark. So helpful, pleasant and skilled! I've used them a couple of times and I was happy both times.
I called up 2 days before thanksgiving when they were booked but they went out of there way to make sure I had a working sink for the holiday. They sent over Dahymel who was just amazing. So kind, helpful, instructive and pleasant. He is a gem. Everyone at Harry Clark has been great. I usually don't write reviews but I was so happy with them and good plumbers are hard to come by. I've referred many neighbors to them and they too have been happy.

The technicians are great, but they are very predatory and will try to milk you for all you've got. I've re-iterated my issues to the operator and she confirmed that they will have all the tools necessary. Needless to say, they sent a person without the necessary equipment and had the audacity to charge me because they sent someone out, and afterwards proceeded to gaslight me into feeling like I am trying to stiff them.

Bought our first house and had to have the sewer lateral replaced. After shopping around and with a recommendation from our real estate agent, we went with Harry Clark.

Pros:

All very professional in communications. The work was done well as far as I can tell. They contacted the city and did all paperwork and permits for you, which was a nice convenience. They also don't have to dig up as much of your yard as they have a trenchless pipe burtsing technique they employ. That's nice to not have your front yard destroyed. Accepted a credit card, yay points!

Cons:

They are more expensive than many other quotes I got, by quite a lot - but I guess you gotta prefer quality over economy! Also take into account the more advanced trenchless method which leaves your lawn/plants intact.

In our time of turmoil Harry Clark Plumbing was absolutely a joy to work with. In the midst of the past few heat waves our AC unit stopped working all together. They made two trips to our home the first time to change out a capacitor and the second time to install a kit that would reduce the initial draw on the 30 Amp circuit.

They were amazingly professional, prompt and most importantly as often happens with AC repairs they did not immediately try to upsell expensive equipment that may or may not be needed

I would highly recommend Harry Clark Plumbing for any Plumbing, Heating or Air Conditioning repair.  The technicians are all amazing and the office staff is great at getting back to you with information.

I want to replace my furnace ducts.  This company told me, over the phone, that they do not perform blower tests.  They base their installation upon 20 years of experience.  For me, that is not sufficient.  Without testing, it is impossible to know whether ducts work well, or whether they are wasting heat. Blower tests of ducts are required in California starting in August, according to the next furnace company I installed.  Sure, they are not violating the law, but they are not keeping up with the latest in technology.

Perhaps this review is too harsh, but I don't think so.  It is similar to St. R.'s experience with baby-proofing a floor heater.

I've been using Harry Clark for years and finally decided to write a review. Every single time someone has come out to address a problem, they have been professional, courteous and extremely helpful. I want to give extra appreciation for Jose, who came out today to fix a leak. He was already working extra hard because staffing was down due to Covid. He was so thorough and explained what he was seeing and considering every step of the way. He made a couple of calls to double check some technical issues, which confirmed his initial hunch. I wish more people took the time to do what he did -- double check. That is what I call integrity. It gave him peace of mind that he was leaving with a job well done, and it of course left me with peace of mind. Thank you Jose, and thank you to all the hard-working staff at Harry Clark. There's a good reason for your good reputation. Nice work!

We contracted with Harry Clark Plumbing for a 4 day sewer lateral replacement. Their crew worked 4 hours/day for 3 days then disappeared for 3 weeks suggesting that they couldn't advance because the City of Oakland did not have available inspectors. When I spoke to Brad, the owner of the company following their completion, he advised that a part of the delay was that they had not received the permit until 2 weeks following the start of the project and that they, therefore, couldn't get an inspection scheduled in a timely way. Added to that he advised that they had some project management failures as their team has been impacted by personal issues of key personnel. When I suggested that the costs of these types of internal issues driving sub-par performance should be the impact of his business not his customer he became aggressive and insulting so I simply hung up. I'll call his staff now to pay our full invoice (I had asked that they consider a 10% reduction based on having open pits in our yard for the duration of the delayed project) and I strongly encourage any of you reading this review to consider using a more professional company for your plumbing needs. They are certainly out there!

They get 4 stars due to a mixed performance, otherwise they'd get 5 stars.

The good:
1.  They provided a quote for installing 2 forced air furnances.  The furnances they chose were the correct ones, which I like (Not all bidders made the best recommendation based on our home needs).  They did a good job of installing the furnaces and duct work.  We're pleased with the timing and follow through to give us a tour of the system.

2.  The staff seems very professional and diligent.  The lead guy informed me of what was happening each step of the way.  He took special attention to do a good job during in the installation which required him to build on a new ceiling access to the attic.  He also identified where he did not have expertise and asked us to complete the carpentry work - which we appreciate - we'd rather have the job done correctly by the right people.

3.  The quote was very reasonable, the timing of the job was on par with what they said it would be and the paperwork coming from the office was prompt and complete.  The owners are interested in making sure they have high quality services and I understand they're making changes to ensure all of their product offerings meet the same standards.

The downside:
1.  They installed a register under cabinetry that did not connect directly to the duct work below the flooring.  We are going to have a sheet metal fabricator create a duck for us (I'm not trying to bake inside of my cabinetry) so that we can preserve the beautiful custom cabinets we've just installed.  Mind you, we should have had the duct work installed BEFORE the cabinetry, not afterwards.    Had I known, I would have put a register in another location, such as the directly on the floor or in another wall.

2.  There was an issue with the previously installed furnace in our home that was very difficult to resolve with H. Clark.  May have been bad luck at the timing.  The follow up on this issue was difficult at best.    Having said this, the experience we had installing the new furnace was just excellent.

Additionally, my husband did get a good plumbing quote from them.

I was so impressed with the service provided by the Harry Clark technician.  First, he was able to come early, but called first to make sure that was okay.  He diagnosed our problem quickly, solved it completely, and took extra care to clean and disinfect all of the surfaces he touched.  He gave me great tips for how to prevent it from happening in the future, and was generally incredibly professional and pleasant to work with!  My only potential complaint with the entire process was that they were relatively busy, so I had to wait 3 days to get it looked at.  But it wasn't a big deal, given the issue we were having.  I will definitely use Harry Clark in the future!

We have worked with Harry Clark Plumbing over the years for our 3 unit property. Late 2018 there was a problem with the BR sink faucet. It took 4 visits (3 to have the hot water handle tightened) #3 another guy was sent who replaced both hot and cold cartridges. the hot water cartridge he removed was worn (though a new one had just been put in)visit#4  was to tighten the cold water cartridge. The the glass shelf over the sink not removed during the repair so was accidentally chipped and broke in half later.  During the 4th visit to tighten the cold water handle, the plumber agreed with the tenant to replace the broken shelf. To date, this has not yet been done. The company did not respond when contacted. The tenant is complaining

We have used Harry Clark many times over the years, for a variety of plumbing issues. Their work has been reliably good across many projects, worthy of a 5-star review. I'm only giving them 4 due to what seems to be relatively high pricing for some small jobs. But no complaints, highly recommended!

I want to send a huge thanks to Karen for reaching out to us in regards to our previous experience with Harry Clark Plumbing. She was very apologetic about how the plumbers handled the situation and very eager to help us resolve our leaking faucet issue. She was quick to respond back to us after I posted my review, and she was able to send Brad out from the management team to personally stop by to take a look at our bathroom sink. He was very quick, pleasant, and professional. He sent us a quote for the replacement of the faucet right away, and we are now in the process of scheduling the install.

Thank you Karen and Brad for not only reading my review, but for taking immediate action to resolve our issue. I can tell that you really care about your customers and your business reputation. This is a vital trait of a great business. Thank you for reaching out and making things right. Looking forward to continuing our business relationship.

This Company is the best! I used them to gain sewer lateral compliancy on a house we purchased in Berkeley late last year. They came next day once I sent the signed contract, started the job and it was done within 2 days WITH approval from city of Berkeley. The inspector that came to sign off knew the company and the owners of Harry Clark on first name basis--clearly this company has been around and knows how to work efficiently and what to do. They are Incredibly professional and they left our yard exactly as they found it. Every other company that gave me a quote for this job was way above their price and did not promise to replace any landscaping that was damaged during work. I will DEFINITELY be using them again. THANK YOU TO EVERYONE AT HARRY CLARK! You are the bomb.com!

It was during a big storm and Harry Clark was slammed. A huge tree had fallen and broken a water pipe and was flooding underneath the house. Electricity was out, tree was covering the valve to turn off water and East Bay Mud evaluated and could do nothing until the tree was removed. This could be days. Bradley managed to gather a crew with a generator and pump and was at the site within 30 minutes of the call. The guy pumped all the water out from under  the house and with unbelievable ingenuity managed to get access to the water source and identify the broken pipe and clamped it down stopping all the water from rushing under house. It was a Superman moment!!! Thank you Harry Clark for responding to a 911 situation with all that was going on and being better than anyone expected!!!

I remodeled a house and needed to install a completely new heating system. Harry Clark  patiently worked with me during the project, and their design was the most innovative compared with other estimators. That was seven years ago, and they have maintained the system annually since then. They have been very professional and reliable, especially compared with other heating companies in the area.

Ronnie was amazing! My central heating wasn't working and other HVAC professionals insisted that I demo all of the ceiling to expose all of the ductwork. Ronnie was tenacious and dismantled the accessible ductwork and discovered a tripped fire damper. I'm so grateful for all of the time, energy, and research he put in to solve my HVAC problem!

Just over three years ago we had them install a sump pump in our driveway. They put a metal grate over it and I asked if that would catch the debris that would inevitably fall through. The guy told me it would be fine and not to worry about it. Three years later after our big rains, the driveway flooded. It was under about 6 to 7 inches of water for many hours. After siphoning out the water, I saw that the pump was running but not working and had spewed oil inside the hole. This was an almost new pump that they had installed. I called them to come and check it out and they told me the pump needed to be replaced since there were more rains coming. I paid them another $1200 to put in a new pump. it feels like a racket and I'm disappointed the company did not take any responsibility for installing a pump that only lasted for three years without giving me any instruction or guidance on how to maintain it and implied that no maintenance was necessary. They acted like it was my fault when they told me there was nothing I needed to worry about. I am disappointed in this customer service.

We had a new furnace installed after many estimates, much research and long conversations about best furnace models etc.  We chose Harry Clark because their estimate was right in the middle of all the estimates received and they were very responsive with answering questions etc.  The installation team was awesome and had our new furnace installed quickly.

The York multi-phase furnace is everything we wanted - super quiet, highly efficient and well priced.  I am glad that I listened to Brian's advice and went with the York.  The York has a bad rep as its initial rollout was rocky. Those issues have been rectified and as I looked at the dates of all the bad reviews I could see that they all matched the initial 1-3/4 years that the model rolled out.    We got the York multi-phase furnace (read more quiet and more energy efficient) for the same price as a Bryant 2 phase.  We couldn't be happier.

A few months later we had Harry Clark install a new instant hot water heater.  We went with their recommendation to replace our non-condensing model that was 16 years old, with an AO Smith condensing model that we ended up hating.  The noise and vibration from the condenser sounded like a small airplane in the house - and after some tweeks by the manufacturer the plane was reduced to a motor boat taking off whenever we turned on the hot water.  When the dishwasher was running at night the vibrations from the hot water tank would vibrate through the bed... It was not a happy situation at all.

Brad (the owner) at Harry Clark listened to our concerns, came out himself, sent the company rep twice, and when all of that ultimately did not resolve the noise/vibration issue, they swapped out the condensing heater for an AO Smith non condensing hot water heater and voila!  The noise is gone!  The vibrations are gone!   It is heaven to turn on the hot water and not hear any thing but... well, water!  While the situation was not ideal, Harry Clark was committed to getting it right and they did.

For anyone looking into instant hot water heaters, if you have a smaller wood frame home I would strongly recommend going with a non-condensing model.  It is literally silent while running.  As a hot water heater should be.

Thanks Harry Clark for sticking with us!  We will absolutely use you again - great customer service and thank you for truly backed up your commitment to providing customer satisfaction.

We've worked with Harry Clark in the past-- they replaced a sewer line, installed a furnace and a tankless water heater, at various times.  I thought I would have written a review of them before, but I don't see any, so I'll just start off by saying that we have been very satisfied with all this work.

This time, we were informed out of the blue by our EBMUD meter reader that we had been using an unusually large amount of water.  When I checked the meter reading against our last bill, it was actually TEN TIMES higher (about 1300 gallons a day)! The water line from the main to our house had sprung a leak.

Long story short, we called Harry Clark.  Their office person, (manager?) Daniele, said that they were super busy, but when I told her our situation, she said she would find a way to squeeze us in, and she personally figured out a way to make it affordable.  They sent an estimator, Frankie, out the next day, and he made an estimate.  A lot of money, but a big job. He came back the next day to walk us through what needed to be done.  He was very clear, and answered all our questions and concerns. And when we asked how soon the work could be done, he said tomorrow, which was a Saturday.  The crew showed up bright and early to do the work.  These guys (foreman Martin) were very polite, friendly, and efficient, and we were only without water for about 4 hours.  They had to dig a trench through our yard, but they replaced the sod fairly well, and they repaired our sidewalk where tree roots had been pushing it up, even though they hadn't needed to break into it.  Kudos to everyone involved.

Next time we need plumbing or heating work, we'll be calling them again!

This has been one cold winter so far.  I am pretty sure it's because of global cooling.  But whatever the reason, I am nice and warm in my house, and I am paying PG&E about half as much as last winter cause I have a new 94% efficient condensing gas furnace, bitches.

I knew I needed a new furnace this winter and in a stroke of cheap-ass genius, I called Harry Clark in August to have it installed.  Let's just say that having a gas furnace installed when it is 90 outside gives you some negotiating leverage on the price.

Despite my brilliant bargaining acumen, they did a great job with the install and were very quick and thorough about the whole thing.  I have also used them over the years to replace steel water pipe, install a gas line, and move a sewer pipe, among other more mundane tasks.   They have always done a great job at a very fair price.

So we had Harry Clark replace old iron pipes for copper 4 years ago for a small bathroom remodel.  At the time we did it, we had a horrible experience.  Late, sloppy and way over budget.  Once it was over, we decided we would never use them again and moved on.  Well 4 years later we are having water pressure issues in the remodeled bathroom.  We now learn that 1) they did not replace all the old pipe like they were supposed to (they connected new copper pipe to last 6 feet of iron pipe that was failing to the water heater) and 2) they didn't connect the copper correctly to the iron pipe.  End result, a mess that we are now having to redo.

Run away.  Incompetent and untrustworthy.

Harry Clark Plumbing and Heat is a tried and true company.  They were originally recommended by my realtor when I bought my house.  They use state of the art products, and I have had them install my energy efficient furnace, which is great.  Recently I had them install a tankless water heater, which I love.  They are reasonably priced, not out to gouge like others that gave estimates (some even charge to give you a quote!).
Nick and Kevin were not only efficient, but they were super conscientious and polite, which is always appreciated.

Harry Clark has done various plumbing and heating projects for us for many years. Just recently they installed a new very efficient furnace in our home. Their bid was the most competitive and the estimator did an outstanding job of explaining the options. The crew arrived timely and was very professional. The job leader explained the project steps and timeline thoroughly. Throughout the job the crew was friendly and always cleaned up at the end of each day. We are delighted with the result: a quiet, efficient furnace that heats our home better by far than our last furnace! Harry Clark does a great job!

All I can say is NO NO NO NO NO!  Unprofessional, terrible work, criminal as far as I'm concerned.  My computer went missing the day they were working on my house - and when the owner assumed I wasn't going to pay for the job (they had the check for $6,000.00 on their desk) - he said he would rip the hot water heater off of my house.  I had to file a police report.  A scary and horrible experience.

Harry Clark Plumbing was FANTASTIC!  I had a broken sewer lateral that I actually had another plumber come fix.

My house is serviced by two laterals and I wanted to fix the broken one so that I would continue to have two and not rely on the remaining operable one for everything; you know.... don't have all your sewer laterals in one basket!

The Guys at HC also agreed with me and did the job to my satisfaction.  The workers were very professional and at the end of each day, gave me an update on the project progress and  their plans for the next day.  They also coordinated with the City of Oakland to come out to the project site to do an inspection ensuring all work was done properly and to code.

I'll definitely call on them again for all my future plumbing needs.

Thanks Harry Clark!!!

I called Harry Clark to replace a kitchen faucet that was leaking and one of their guys came out but couldn't remove the valves/stems in order to fix the leak. Since the faucet wasn't fixed, he said there would be not be a charge. A few days later I received a $136.00 bill for this non-repair in the mail. They do charge for the travel time/job, even if they can't fix the problem.

I bought a new faucet and called Harry Clark Plumbing (the previous bill had not yet arrived) again to come over and replace the faucet. They were timely but expensive, AND the the valve under the sink leaked right after it was replaced during the repair. This should have been found by the plumber who had just completed the repair.

It's important to check thoroughly for leaks at the faucet/sink level after the plumbing job(or any job, oil change, or whatever). Dry everything with a towel and then run both hot and cold water so that you can see if it is leaking from either the hot or cold valves under the sink., or at the faucet. Putting newspaper under the sink shows the moisture easily but don't put off this important task. Check the work right after the repair and periodically also. You don't want to slowly develop dry rot from a leaky plumbing job and find out about it MONTHS later. Our new faucet job leaked right after Buck finished installing the faucet. and replacing the valves under the sink.  I had to have someone else from Harry Clark come out again to fix the leak due to the new repair job.

Gees.....guys. DOUBLE check your work! Buck wrote on the job receipt that no leaks were apparent but they won't be apparent unless you check for leaks. I hope the faucet holds up.

I hired HCP several years ago to fix a cracked sewer lateral, which involved replacing the cracked clay pipe with plastic under my driveway on a hillside.  The crew that replaced it had to break up their concrete patch and do it a second time because they botched it, and their repair actually caused a leak in the sewer line under the house, which resulted in a big pool of smelly sewage under our house.  When the owner, Brad, came out to assess the damage, he did not apologize, and in fact accusingly insisted that the sewage must have been a pre-existing condition!  He reluctantly agreed to drain the liquid sewage that was on the surface, but would only remove the top 1 of the sewage-soaked soil.  His crew boss, who had just returned from vacation, apologized for the shoddy work performed in his absence, and did a decent job of fixing the leak and removing more of the mess than the owner authorized.  I would never recommend anyone use this company. Lots of marketing, very poor leadership and company culture.

I had to have my lateral sewer system completely replaced. Everyone at Harry Clark from the office staff, workers on site and the owner were friendly, helpful, professional, and efficient in getting the job done in a timely fashion. While this was going on , the on site supervisor noticed a steady stream of water flowing from house through the pipe and let me know there was a probable leak. On his advice I called Harry Clark and an inside plumber was sent out very quickly to find the problem and quickly fixed it! Thank you to all for a job well done! I appreciate all of you!

He told us the root cause, told us he could fix it then and there, and gave us a (reasonable) estimate. He did the work very quickly, cleaned up after himself, and the fix worked like a charm!

The overall experience was great -- Ronnie was super nice, efficient and professional. I'll definitely use this company again!

The whole team was great!   I work with investment properties and frequently work with plumbing companies.  These guys took care of the needed Sewer Lateral inspection and all the required work. True professionals. Great communication. Excellent prices.
I will use them again whenever possible.  Thanks team.

I hired Harry Clark to replace a 60+ year old furnace with a new 95% efficiency model.  Don came out right away to do an estimate and patiently answered all my questions.  I got the work scheduled for about a month later and the installers showed up on time and completed the project without any complications.  The installers walked me though the work they did, the safety features (gas / electric shutoff) and how to change the filter.  Harry Clark filed the necessary paperwork for the Oakland permit and the work passed the final inspection on the first try.  Throughout the process whenever I had questions I could call their number and someone always answered the phone.  Brian was especially helpful when I called in with questions.

Nobody likes calling a plumber: generally it's because of some bad situation.  I had THREE bad situations in a row: toilet leaking, garbage disposer no longer working and my dishwasher had backed up with greasy, milky blech.  BLECH!  Called Harry Clark and, while they couldn't come out that day, offered me a fairly quick appointment.  i was driving home from work when John - the AMAZING PLUMBER - called me 10 minutes before our appointment.  Seriously...who calls BEFORE the appt.???  Anyway, John was the consummate professional and all of my plumbing problems were fixed quickly and beyond my satisfaction.  I probably shouldn't be so excited about a new garbage disposer but I am.  Thanks JOHN and Harry Clark!

We were told by our real estate agent the Harry Clark was the best but that they are pricey.  I spoke with a few companies about replacing our sewer lateral.  Harry Clark's estimate was $9k.  Pipe Spy said it would be at least $15k.  We went with Harry Clark. They were professional, did a great job, and the final bill was exactly what they said it would be.

Harry Clark Heating and Cooling were amazing! They were very responsive and handled things quickly. I have 2 young kids at home and really appreciated the covid-19 precautions they took. Masks were worn at all times, they kept their distance when possible and wore gloves. It was a pleasure to work with them. I would highly recommend them to anyone!

Time and time again HCP has come to our rescue!  With all the hot weather we decided it was time to finally use the central air ---that we never used before since installing as part of a major home renovation 10 years ago.  People thought we were insane installing central air in Berkeley.  HCP arrived 2 days after a service request and fixed all the cross wiring in the attic that apparently wasn't finished by the subcont. HCP checked both house zones, and highly recommended to use both zones rather just a single zone because the AC unit would cool the entire house faster and run more [energy] efficiently.

I needed to replace my 24-year-old furnace in 1000sq foot house.  I got four bids for an 80% efficient unit and a 95% efficient unit.  The optional brands were Bryant, Carrier, and York from 44,000BTU to 66,000BTU.  All would likely enough or more than enough for the house.  The bids ranged from Aarvaks Heating and Air Conditioning at $9,980 to $3,190 from Harry Clark Plumbing and Heating, and the same $3,200 from Apple Heating.  Albert Nahman Plumbing came in at $5,500. Please note: These estimates cannot be directly compared because the amount of optional redoing of duct work, city permits, and furnace cost of different brands varied.  I went with Harry Clark and a 95% efficient unit because Bobby at Apple did not get back to me as soon as he promised.  (It was a very busy season, and his company is small.)  Harry Clark Plumbing has been family-owned for decades, and Don was very knowledgeable and offered options.  My installation was not complicated; he worked me into his schedule.  I went with the York brand because Don said that the unit is dependable; the style is10 years old and has no bells and whistles.  In general, York got a bad review Consumers' Reports presumably because the company comes out with innovative styles that are unreliable.  All the heating companies liked Bryant presumably because there is a good distributor in the area.  Bryant and Carrier were ranked very good by Consumers' Report.  We'll see how long York lasts with it's 10 year warranty on parts and lifetime on heat exchanger.

I requested a quote on Yelp and when the young lady Danielle responded she was nothing but kind, concern, and caring. She worked with me to make the appointment time work. When the repair person Ivan arrived he was professional, courteous, and made me laugh about what had been a stressful situation. This was a heater repair and it has been really cold recently so it was important to have the heater repaired. When he left I felt confident in the repair and he was actually more efficient than when PGE was here to light the heater. This company provided outstanding, good old fashion customer service. I would recommend giving this company a call for your heating needs. I will use Harry Clark Plumbing and Heating for my heating needs. Also if I have plumbing needs I will call them back. By the way my home is now warm and comfortable. Give them a call or request a quote on Yelp. I did and I'm happy. Thank You for outstanding customer service.

I had Harry Clark handle 2 large repairs at my new home and was thoroughly impressed by the results of both jobs and the professionalism of their staff.
My first impression was when I called to set up the initial appointments. Daniele was friendly and helpful and seemed honestly interested in my needs. She quickly arranged my HVAC and plumbing estimate appointments at my requested times. I needed to call back a few times over the course of having the work done and Danielle seemed to recognize my voice, remember my projects without me referencing them and quickly help me when ever i called. i'm sure H.C. is a busy company and I'm not the only customer so her recollection impressed me.
The first repair was to our HVAC system. when the technician, Pete, came out, he immediately recognized a serious safety problem with our heating system but couldn't address it. he immediately informed me that the device was unsafe to use until a follow up appointment was made.
When the follow up appointment, the technician, Mathew (same name as mine!), was friendly and professional. He worked quickly and cleaned up after himself when he was done. my system was older and a part needed to be ordered. Mathew worked with my schedule and installed the part after normal business hours. There were some unexpected problems when he came back his visit and it took longer than planned. Even though it was late and he was surely tired form a long day, he put the extra time in to do the job right and ensure he wouldn't have to come back again. I appreciated his attention to detail.
I also had some major plumbing work done by H.C. I regret that i didn't catch the names of their plumbing team but found them to be just as friendly and professional as the other HC employees . unfortunately, they had to work under my house in some pretty muddy conditions (partly cause by a sewer pipe leak EW! ) but they didn't seem phased by it and best of all they managed to leave all the mud under the house and didn't track any around my yard! while they worked , they ckept me informed of their progress and, of course cleaned up like they had never been there when they were done.
Thanks Harry Clark for all your excelent work!

I recently had Harry Clark (Brad) provide an estimate for replacement of a sewer lateral line.  They came out on short notice, provided an estimate on the spot, were straight forward about the issue at hand and provided a very reasonable estimate.

I hired them shortly there after.  They started work the following day, completed the job extremely fast, and processed permits and inspections with lightning speed to ensure my papers were in place for an expedited escrow process.  Turn key awesomeness!

All in all, my experience was more than fantastic!  Harry Clark and company (Brad, Brad jr., and crew) exceeded my expectations in quality work and affordability; a very rare combination!  I HIGHLY recommend calling them if you find yourself in need of a sewer lateral replacement.

I've had two experiences with Harry Clark --

They installed a furnace in my home several years ago. Went smoothly, fair price, no complaints. The installers were prompt and courteous. They would have gotten 5 stars if not for the second experience.

We had the upstairs furnace (yup, old house with two furnaces) serviced last year because it wouldn't turn on. The person they send was extremely slow, charging by the hour. He couldn't get the furnace started. He replaced a part, still wouldn't start. I got charged for the time and the part. After he left I got it started. That was a 1 star experience, no doubt. I got a partial refund, but even so...

So that averages out to a 3 star experience overall. I'd look for someone else next time...

I am very pleased with the service I received today from Peter, one of their technicians.  He worked quickly removing a very old wall furnace,  straightened the bent underpinings, removed what wall was necessary for a good fit for the new furnace,  installed the furnace and thermostat and patiently answered my questions.  I am particularly grateful that he protected my furniture from dust and left the job with all my things back in place, dust vacuumed up and me a happy customer.  Thanks.

I called them in crisis, during the atmospheric river we were going through in early Jan.  I had 4 feet of standing water in my sub basement, due to a power outage.  unfortunately the water heater was in the sub basement, submerged--- the sump pump quit when the power went out during the storm.  I called Harry Clarke in crisis mode.
they were able to come out w/in a day or two, and create a practical sump pump solution.  my new sump pump has a device on it that works by water flow, and will kick in when electricity goes out, leaving my sub basement high and dry, yay!!!  as you know this winter has been abnormally wet, and my sub basement  has been dry.  Everytime it rains I give  thanks to Harry Clarke, for their fast respond to my plight.
they also put in as tankless water heater, and did a great job.
they were on time, professional, and responsive.
I will definitely muse them again.

Another outstanding job by Harry Clark & Co. in Oakland! I had a leak in my toilet tank for several weeks. Part of the problem also was the tank  only held one gallon of water so there wasn't a lot of volume to adequately flush the unit when I turned the handle. The other issue is the commode was in a very tight space next to my shower stall, and the handle on the left side could barely be reached. Isaac came by initially for an estimate and advised me to replace the commode and tank due to wear & tear. He was thorough in his assessment & also tightened my pedestal sink while he was here. The following day Ron arrived on time and carefully measured the existing unit and surrounding area for a perfect fit into  tight spot. The friendly office staff called the next day & said their supplier had located a model with a corrected right handed flush & larger tank. Ron returned that afternoon and removed the old unit (which he carefully wrapped in plastic) from the premises. He then installed the new items which fit perfectly. After the water was restored, he tested the flush mechanism several times before completing the procedure. I'm very happy with my new commode and with Harry Clark & Co. continued excellent service & attention to exquisite detail. If I could give then more than 5 stars, I would!

This is the 3rd time I had to call them back to fix a malfunctioning flush valve. Every time I told them it was a Toto toilet , they kept putting in non-Toto  valves. They say on their receipt that parts and labor are guaranteed for one year, but I was still charged for labor and parts this time, even though it was just 3 months or so after the 2nd valve replacement.  They marked up the price for the Toto flush valve by $10.00 . The plumber checked the water pressure which took a total of 2 minutes and he charged us for the hour of labor . It's such a scam.
I definitely will not recommend them, even to my enemies. They're that bad.

As I freeze for the 5th year in my home, I once again think about how much I hate this company and how long this review is overdue. Let me count the ways:
1. Lying. When it was clear I needed a new furnace I called three companies for three bids, and Don from HC came out first. He asked me who else was going to come to bid, and when I said who, he claimed we'll be 15-20% less, and when you get their bids, you'll call me and say, Don, put me on the schedule. [Truth? I was definitely in a hurry. I had an ancient furnace resulting in $400+ gas bills undisclosed by the sellers of my house and wanted to do some kitchen remodeling work, so time was of the essence. Simply because of when they could come (soonest) and trusting his word they were so much cheaper than competitors, I booked them. A week later I got my Atlas bid for ~$500 (5%) more that also included an extra duct for COMFORT as well as a better-model furnace. So in essence same $.

2. Lying, part 2--not accepting responsibility. One of their people cut an electrical line under my house, and my electrician confirmed this. I had two light sockets and one outlet go out due to their install. When I came back to them later to mention/ask for repair, they denied responsibility completely and pointed to a previous note I had sent re: PG&E complimenting their install. Sure, some PG&E guy who also claimed not to smell the gas leak (along with my spouse and everyone at Harry Clark) said the furnace looked great. All new furnaces can. We still had a gas leak, and the outlet/sockets affected were far away and not looked at by PG&E. Don (see above--lying) again dug his heels in and refused to take responsibility, referring to multiple others in my house. Well, actually the other underneath the house was my electrician who ID'd that someone else cut this line, and the only other was above the house simply installing cabinets and not dealing with electrical/plumbing/systems. HC refused responsibility and I paid my electrician $225 to correct THEIR error.

3. HC rec'd some crappy Honeywell thermostat, and it broke about 2-3 years later, during its warranty. I called Honeywell, under warranty, but they insisted I could only get the replacement therm through my furnace dealer, so I called HC, because Honeywell made me, and I thought it would be gratis due to warranty. Since our house remains FREEZING ALWAYS due to HC's duct work design, I asked that as long as they were here to take a look at that. (We have hot or freezing but nothing between.) Turns out, this was NOT gratis, and I had to pay $145 to replace one crappy therm with another BRANDED to HC, so every time I adjust it I have to look at their liar brand name. And the servicer who came YELLED at me for balking at the $145 because they can't go around offering free labor and sure that's fine but why not inform me first because a therm replacement is SO NOT HARD and easy DIY. No one TOLD ME UP FRONT.

4. Horrible, incompetent drywall work. (Please refer to photos, which will tell ALLL.)

5. My friend had to sue them in small claims after they refused to take responsibility for illegally connecting their sewer line to the neighbor's. I mean, sure, the city inspectors never should have let this fly, but it makes one wonder about the integrity of both.

6. Other friends and their horror stories, too, but not anything they felt comfortable with me posting. Also hearsay among tradespeople about other lawsuits but nothing I can speak to; I can only speak to the fact that I soooooooo regret forever hiring them based on #1--Don's original lie.

Do yourself a favor and avoid these crooks.

Harry Clark relocated and replaced two on demand Navien water heaters as we moved into our new house. The previous install had been amateur hour, and the crew at Harry Clark were clearly professionals and were able to tackle a challenge. Brad Jr. was responsive and helped come up with a plan that everyone was happy with, and Nick and everyone else did an amazing job making the exposed copper pipes into a work of art in our garage.

The crew did amazing work but we would have appreciated if they're done a better job cleaning up at the end of each day and at the end of the project.

When one water heater started acting up a few months later they came out quickly and swapped out a faulty circuit board under warranty. We would certainly hire Harry Clark again! Be

This is a mixed review. I had been a customer of HC since 2000 when I bought my home.  The family who'd owned the home since they bought it new in 1927 were retired plumbers and used HC.  What could be better?  They served my home well over the years (toilet replacement, gas line installations for dryer & oven, old heating furnace repair, leaky kitchen, installation of central heating). Only one mistake was forgetting to put the furnace filter in my central heating unit which caused the motor to blow out-luckily for HC it was under warranty so Carrier had to pay, not HC.  That was a shocker and a minus. This week's replacement of a tankless water heater doesn't compare. The man who did this installation said he'd cleaned up and would I like to pay now.  I almost did.  Thank goodness I didn't.  There was a weird smell coming from the hot water when I turned it on.  I went down to the crawlspace to look.  The piping looked like a marble drop or roller coaster set up. There was trash, as in old & newly cut pipes, a pile of screws, and other junk.  A pipe was left leaking.  The crawlspace door was left wide open and light left on.  I called HC to let them know this was unacceptable and to please send a new person over to fix this mess.  I also asked that the guy who did the work not come back.  I was told that the co-owner would come to my house at 8 to personally meet with me.  He did not arrive until 8:30 and the man who did the work was there and worked on the unit to fix the mess!  When I tried to explain all the issues that I saw, the co-owner dismissed them with A lot of little things. Yes, a lot of little things that for $3000 shouldn't be there.  The young man who tried to do the work was equally dismissive, Mistakes were made, and said there was no pipe leaking.  The day of the installation, he had turned off the water to stop the pipe from leaking. That day I had to go down to the crawlspace and use the water from the bucket where the leak was to rinse the soap off my hands after using the bathroom. (He'd forgotten to tell me he'd turned the water off again.) So no, buddy, I am not lying about the pipe.  There was a lovely man, Crispin, who listened to me and was very professional.  He made the unit installation look like I had paid a real plumber to do it.  Thank you, Crispin!  However, the back steps and patio were left with greasy spots as if someone had been doing oil changes back there.  Seriously? So I had to call again to complain. I was told they would work on getting it cleaned up and then asked could they get payment.  Later that day, someone called about how I would like to pay.  How about doing the work professionally and completely?  That was the third strike. HC you've lost my business.  And the $200 you took off my bill doesn't really do anything for me.  I hope we both can learn from this-me-get bids and not be so trusting- and you-do clean, professional work the first time, politely listen to your customers, and hassle people for money after the work is done.

We had our lateral sewer line replaced--a big job.

The Harry Clark workmen showed up on time, politely introduced themselves, listened to me as far as which plants I did and didn't care about(and the treasured ones were intact), and checked in the crawl space to make sure the sewer line worked the way they had been told.

The work proceeded according to schedule--one afternoon of plumbing off, on again that night, the inspector the next morning, and the soil replaced right after that.  Everything was tidied--no dirt on the sidewalk.  They even replaced the trellis that I had moved!

I am glad that I picked them.

They were extremely slow and did the job half way. My leaking kitchen faucet took them about 1 month to fix; I had to send photos two times, because the guy who came out could not identify the faucet properly. When they eventually installed the proper valve (which made the faucet work), they did not fix the leak through the counter top.  This is not  a plumbing job said the plumber.

The guys at Harry Clark are very professional!

When it comes to replacing old sewer laterals they clearly know what they are doing.

They used the pipe bursting trenchless sewer replacement technique.  They stuck to their original schedule, even when the original crew called in sick.  They left our front lawn just like it had been before and the driveway cleaner than it has been in years.  Their pricing was competitive.

I have used Harry Clark on a limited basis over the past 20 years. They are a professional outfit and back when I first used them (pre-Yelp) they were who you used in Oakland. I used their services both personally and referred to my real estate clients who were new to most of the basic home service people.

What I've found over the years is that it has become harder and harder to refer their company to my clients for the small jobs. If it's a big job, you get on the board, but if it is a small to medium-sized job, you're going to wait. And the bids were increasingly less competitive compared to smaller operations. For instance, to check a water heater, that had a few issues, they charge a $160 fee just to come out and do an inspection which isn't applicable to the job later. What the ???

Overall, I found the work of their contractors just fine. However, unless they are doing major work like replacing a furnace, don't bother calling them. There are other companies who treat each job like an opportunity to help and earn your business.

Overdue review after a very good experience. The furnace went wacky while still plenty of cooler days earlier this year. Used electric space heaters to buy enough time to really compare different companies. We decided to restore central AC after counting a good number of hot days last year. Sooo the approaches from small local people, bigger firms , Costco , etc were all over the map. What a load of crap some of them had especially the deal Costco is pushing. We bided our time but finally called HC after they saved us from the previous hack job a plumber ( former friend) did on furnace installation eight years earlier. I knew immediately when I heard the common sense suggestions that we had found the right people. The crew was courteous and neat and the workmanship impeccable. The heating and AC are quiet and reliable. AND it appears we got the best value just as icing on the cake and they were easy going about paying the bill.

SO pleased with service! I'm a renter and have had a leaky bathroom faucet for years. The hot water handle would spurt water straight out. I sent photos to a couple of plumbers recommended by some contractor friends. One never replied and the other responded Hmm... that's a head-scratcher. Not sure I can fix it. It's really old. Then just recently, my kitchen sink faucet (also really old) started dripping. A lot. In a drought. So, I called Harry Clark Plumbing and they couldn't have been more friendly or responsive. I got an appointment right away, and this morning Buck showed up right on time and fixed BOTH faucets. He's a seasoned plumber, recognized the old hardware immediately, identified and explained what he needed to do and he did it. I highly recommend this company and would encourage anyone to ask for BUCK!

I was thoroughly pleased with the service and very helpful information provided by plumber Buck Court at Harry Clark Plumbing & Heating. My washing machine leaked a ton of water. After seeing many positive reviews on Nextdoor, I called Harry Clark Plumbing on Friday morning to arrange a service call, was told the earliest available was Tuesday morning, so I made an appointment for Tuesday morning. While working on cleaning up the mess an hour or so later, I received a call informing me that a plumber was unexpectedly available and could come in a half hour. Buck arrived, fixed the problem in no time, fixed a secondary small issue with a toilet, gave me lots of helpful advice on cleaning up the mess to avoid mold, and was all-around a nice guy (as was the woman on the phone).

I Had the HC crew (Brad Jr., Jose, Kevin) out this past week for a number of jobs - new water piping to the street, emergency shut-off valve for water and gas, new top for an odd water heater flue, new work to have the tub fill, dryer hose. They came with a good work attitude, and cleaned up as needed, even the lawn area that had to be dug up. They even threw in a new contraption to stop the toilet from groaning. They came in at the lowest bid, but the work couldn't have been better. Happy with the experience and the crew.

Don came over and took one look at my heater and knew exactly when it was put in and why it was not working.  He gave us many options, in writing, clearly explaining each one.  We opted for the new heater, which is so quiet, we didn't realize our son had put it on until we were all broiling.    The techs were very considerate and the job is very clean and tidy.  Super happy with everything.

Had H. C. install new York furnace 5 years ago and have had nothing but problems since. Spent 1700 since trying to keep it running. Now I have the same problem as last year. They had no follow up after they installed it. Nothing. They left plastic all over my crawl space. I wouldn't suggest using them. Also had them do some repiping and found that they didn't use the proper size in part of it. I looked under the house myself....the had no response to my letter about the repipe...

Honestly, I still shudder whenever I see our floor heater they repaired back in 2006.  It costs us a lot of dough and even they made an error they acted like they've never seen this problem before.  These two guys claimed they've worked with floor heater for over 20 years.

To make long story short, the new and very common industry standard floor heater now has a child-proof mechanism built into it (I did some researching) and these guys did not know what to do with it.  Right. After coughing up over $200 just to get them to play around with it.  It still never worked.  So, I took it over when they left and actually got it fixed (by bending a metal contact that keeps the child-proof device off).  I then asked for a refund ~ you guessed it, they refused.  All in all, they are a joke and go out of way to bleed us by charging hourly their so-called expertise.  Turns out our neighborhood here also have had bad experience with them.

Now, if I can move on after venting this out of my system!  Whew!!

I am writing to share the terrible experience I had with Harry Clark Plumbing for a job at my house in Berkeley.

My regular plumber, Albert Nahman Plumbing (highly recommended) was not available for an emergency repair (a non-draining bathtub). I called HCP instead, and they sent out a guy who ran a snake and determined that a p-trap for the waste water needed to be replaced. Well, after I saw the plumber nearly cut through an adjacent water supply line until I caught him, he next was set to use an incorrectly sized gasket to secure the new piping. I balked, knowing this was not the correct way to finish the repair, but ended up running around to plumbing supply shops myself because he would have charged me travel time to find a part he should have had on his own truck.

The next day after HCP's repair, a water leak appeared so I managed to get a plumber out from Albert Nahman to check it out. He found water leaking from the new overflow gasket and the p-trap male adaptor, and determined that the gasket had been tightened so much that it cracked and then subsequently cracked the threading on the p-trap! Fortunately the Nahman crew were able to fix the problem, while also diagnosing and fixing an associated problem at the bathtub end.

When I wrote to Harry Clark Plumbing to request a partial refund (I was willing to pay for the snake work, despite the fact that they only sent one guy who I ended up having to assist throughout the entire supposed repair), they refused. What a joke!

Never use these guys; they are dishonest and incompetent.

HC has worked on my house a few times over the years but this last time they proved to be arrogant and unpleasant to work with. Someone came out a couple of weeks ago and fixed a few small things, however 2 problems they fixed were still acting up in the same way after they left. I asked them to come out again and agreed to a 2-hour window appointment. I had to rearrange my schedule to be home during this time. When an hour and 45 minutes had passed and nobody had yet arrived I called HC. The person on the line said they couldn't make it, didn't apologize even after I told him I had gone out of my way to be home, said it was the nature of the business. How condescending!

We set up another appointment (inconvenient for me) and this time the plumber showed up on time. He saw the glaring problem that his colleague had missed 2 weeks earlier and fixed it. I fully expected to pay for parts but I was pretty surprised to be hit with over $100 in labor for them to finish the original job. So I called and again got the man with the condescending tone on the phone who told me it was the nature of the business!
___

Brian from Harry Clark read this review and called to apologize for the inconvenience and general bad experience this caused me. I appreciate that, and I appreciate that, in the end, the work was well done, which is why I've upgraded the rating on this review to 3 stars. Perhaps your experience will be better.

I called Harry Clark for a 2nd bid on my lateral sewer break which was in the roadway. Brad, the owner, came out. I knew I would be spending several thousand dollars and wanted to look at the price carefully. I had called the City to inform myself about permits and learned that the City's two permits were $650, down from $800 as of July 1. I later learned from Harry Clark's receptionist that the EBMUD permit was $150. Brad began by telling me the price was the price and it had no components. When I balked at this he added that the permits alone were $1300. When I told him what I knew he became defensive, angry that I might be questioning his honesty. That I most decidedly do now. When I interjected a further difference between what he was telling me was the cost and what I knew to be true he called me an asshole and stalked off saying I hope you pay $8000 for your sewer repair. Harry Clark making friends in the neighborhood! I strongly suggest when hiring these folks to examine their permit charges closely!!

There was a time when Harry Clark was a top notch ethical company and I would have rated them with a 5 star review.  Sadly, that is no longer true.  The single star is required.

I have used Harry Clark for many years.  Unfortunately, something has significantly changed...outrageous price gouging!  I called them to snake my clean out, and they informed me that the clean-out needed replacing.  They did not provide a written estimate, and I woefully assumed the price would be reasonable. When I asked the sewer foreman how much it would be, he said 3,000.00.  But let's keep our fingers crossed.  I thought he was joking.  He then went on to say that I needed sewer lateral work, at an astonishing 15,000.00 above and beyond the outrageous 3K for the clean-out .When I told the sewer foreman that that was too much, he then stated how about 11,500.00. ?  Something wasn't right here.  So, I immediately, stopped them from doing any further work, and promptly secured several estimates from other reputable companies.

All of the other plumbing & sewer companies came in with estimates between 9,000 - 9,200 for the sewer lateral work.  And they all provided quotes for the clean out replacement that ranged from 1200.00 - 1500.00.  A significant disparity in pricing.  When I called Harry Clark to negotiate a lower rate based on the market and what other companies are charging, and a longstanding 20 year relationship, the manager (Brad) became hostile, raising his voice, and argumentative.  I was taken aback by his  unprofessional conduct.

I am not quite sure what to make of all of this.  But this isn't the Harry Clark that I've done business with for 20 years.  I will never use them again, ever.  The price gouging leads me to suspect that commissions or some other unethical practice is taking place.

Take it from me, get other estimates before letting this company rob you.

The company is either the most incompetent or most unethical or both. We had a problem with a very noisy water heater. They sent a guy out the first time to assess the situation. He was convinced the pressure valve outside the house needed to be replaced, so he came back a week later and replaced it. Did not fix the problem. He came back a week later and installed a brand new pressure valve right next to the water heater. Did not fix the problem. They had no idea how to fix the problem. I called a Roto Rooter guy who came out and fixed the water heater noise problem in 15 minutes. Then these idiots try to charge me for solving nothing. Fast forward a month and I try to turn on my front yard irrigation system - there is no water supply. So another irrigation guy comes out and explains to me that the outside pressure valve that these dummy's replaced (a) did not lead to the water heater and had nothing to do with the water heater, it was for the outside irrigation system, (b) was installed upside down so it shut off water to the irrigation system, and (c) was not needed for the irrigation system either because the irrigation system has its own pressure valves.

Use this company at your own peril. What a nightmare.

Quite fooling around calling other places and go with Harry Clark. I won't bore you with all the details of our crazy job, but to say that Harry Clark worked their butts off for three weeks to hand dig a 7' french drain for us around the entire back and side of our home.

They're priced competitively, and their customer service is great. Everyone-from the accounting team, customer service (Denise), project leads (Marcus) to the field staff (Don, Martin, and Juan) were thorough and courteous.

As new home owners it was so reassuring to know they had our best interests in mind and kept showing that through their work ethic, creative approach and attention to detail, not to mention great bedside manner.

I'd hire Harry Clark again in an instant.

This review is based on my experience calling for estimates on a copper re-pipe in Oakland. I called four different companies out (one never showed up) and hired these guys because their estimator, Marcus, was friendly, went over the details carefully AND came back with the best price. I was in a hurry to get the job done and he started and finished on time. I'll call them back.

Harry Clark quickly came out to my house to provide an estimate to replace my furnace.  The estimate was a lot less expensive than the others.  Even though there was a 1 1/2 month lead time to get the work done, Harry Clark squeezed my job in so that my tenant would have heat in the house.  They also quickly obtained a permit for me.

I've given my review below. I was pleasantly surprised to get outreach from customer service to make it right and I planned to follow up and possibly change my review.

But after seeing Don's response to my review, not only completely opposite the apologetic tone of the voicemail I received but also flat out LYING about the unskilled plumber they sent who did mishandle the repair, there is no way I would change my review. Small business or not, you screwed up and you should have just owned it. This company can lose my number and I'll lose theirs.

I had my original furnace from when my house was built in 1986 replaced by Harry Clark Plumbing & Heating.  I received proposals from several companies before selecting Harry Clark.

Don Marshall met with me and provided me with the proposal within a week.  I did have to wait a while for my furnace to get replaced due to the amount of work that they had already scheduled.

The installers arrived on time, lined my carpet with plastic to keep it from getting dirty, and completed the installation within one day (as I had requested).  I did have a couple of minor issues, but Don was very good about getting my issues resolved.  In fact, when a service representative (Pete)  returned to fix the minor issue, he was extremely helpful, and also went out of his way to help me with an added feature with my new furnace and thermostat.

The Harry Clark team did a great job! We have central heating installed. We have a cozy Oakland bungalow with a small attic.

Customer service from both operations and the home office team were great. We will book again for our heating and or plumbing needs. Thanks!

Harry Clark Plumbing & Heating installed my furnace over 20 years ago and they have done the maintenance on it since then, and they've always been responsive and helpful, including on the rare occasion minor repairs were needed.  A couple of weeks ago, my water heater started leaking suddenly and needed immediate replacement.  I called at 9:00 am and Harry Clark had  a new water heater installed and everything cleaned up before 3:00 p.m. that day.  All with very friendly, good service at a reasonable price.  I'ver appreciated the great service over the years, and so glad I knew who to call in an emergency!

For several years I have used Harry Clark Plumbing and Heating for work in my home or fourplex.  Most recently, when water wasn't coming from a kitchen tap it took a quick assessment to determine the faucet head needed replacing. From replacing garbage disposals, to taking care of leaks, opening plugged drains, checking furnaces and turning on pilot lights, they have fixed problems quickly and reasonably.  I used to call different plumbers, but because Harry Clark always answers the phone during business hours, takes the time to get as much  information as they can about a problem before coming out, keeps appointments, communicates clearly and charges fairly, I just call them now. Because they are dependable and good at fixing plumbing and heating problems, I highly recommend them.

Old furnace, old AC and old duct work made cooling and heating our home a Lafayette impossible.    Don Marshall and his team at Harry Clark solved all our problems.  From the initial proposal to the detail work and the billing our experience was fantastic!  They provided extremely competitive pricing and did fantastic work.  It was in the upper 90's all weekend and my new AC did the job.  I was able to cool the house quickly and efficiently, these guys knew what they were doing and I would recommend them to for your next job!

I usually don't write reviews, and I don't think I've ever written a negative review.  But after I read a one-star review below that was similar to what happened to us in many ways, I figured I should share our experience in case it spares others what happened to us.

While replacing a sewer pipe, the technicians piled a huge amount of dirt in multiple places on top of new landscaping, causing $1K worth of damage, even though we have a big gravel driveway with plenty of space, AND it was agreed before the start of the project that we didn't want to damage the new landscaping.  When we brought up what had happened, they apologized and agreed it wasn't what we had discussed, and also agreed that Harry Clark would cover the cost of the damage.

We then had a series of frustrating interactions including: the toilet didn't work after the sewer pipe was replaced because they didn't test it (with no explanation), the new gas line was not installed to code, and various other problems that needed to be fixed but we hadn't noticed until a contractor pointed them out to us.  They did acknowledge the problems and said that they were planning to fix them later -- but they had never mentioned this to us.  It would take up to a week for them to return emails and phone calls, and it was often impossible to get ahold of someone who knew about our project.

While we were settling the bill for the first part of the project, we sent an invoice for the landscaping damage, but they started trying to negotiate and tried to only pay a small portion of the landscaping damage.  They took forever to respond and ended up blaming us for it taking so long.  At that point, Brad Marshall denied we had been told they would reimburse us for the landscaping damage, claiming that whoever told us that didn't have the authority to do so, even though it was in writing. He was shockingly rude and had no explanation for why we should have to pay for landscaping damage his team had caused.  The interactions with Brad basically made the whole thing so miserable there was no point in continuing, so we paid for the work that was done to that point and terminated the contract. We've had extensive work done on our property with various companies over the last few years but the project with Harry Clark, and primarily the interaction with Brad, was by far the most unprofessional experience we've ever had.

Big props to Ronnie @ Harry Clark, Brian the crew chief and the whole team. We had simultaneous grey water drainage problem the same day our 15 month old water heater died due to a manufacturing flaw. Not only did Ronnie diagnose the problems in under 10 minutes, he put me on the phone with Brian who guided me away from expensive options and redirected me to the manufacturer.

Ronnie then jumped on the phone with the manufacturer, advocated and got agreement for a no cost replacement. Wow!

Can't recommend Ronnie and Harry Clark plumbing more.

Very disappointed in Harry Clark this week.  Have used them for years with reasonable satisfaction.  Furnace went out this week during this cold spell.  Soonest appointment was two days later.  Appointment confirmed for 10am-12.  They never showed up or called.  I called and they apologized but had no excuse.  Looks like recent poor experience with them by others may be substantiated.   Too bad.

I have to agree with Yoriko - they used to be good many years ago, but I wouldn't recommend them now for either plumbing or heating.  I've had several experiences with them at both my home and a home I was selling, and recent experiences have been very inconsistent and sloppy.  Fifteen years ago I was very happy with the services I received.
I would find someone else to do your plumbing and heating!

ADDENDUM: Was talking to another plumber today who was in the neighborhood and he said that Harry Clark pays his people by commission only - a percentage of the job billed or something along those lines. IF all of this is true (I have no proof, just the word on the street), it might explain why the bills are so high and the service is so poor. . . .

I have had great results with Harry Clark Plumbing. They did such a great job from the 2000's until present day (yesterday- my old sump pump finally gave out) The sump pump well they installed has gotten compliments from drainage consultant to electrician working in that area of the crawl space- anyone who happens to be working in that area of my house has commented that they did a very nice job on that pump well. Highly recommend! Dahymel replaced a leaking gas pipe for us and installed an earthquake shut-off valve, and I was impressed by how precise and thorough he was. Our gas meter and pipes are visible, so he rerouted the pipes in a tidy, straight way -- something you would only do if you really cared about your work. His speed and professionalism were tops, too. We got bids from several other companies who were more expensive AND would say things like, If your furnace doesn't turn on when we're done, we're not liable. Before he left, Dahymel made sure everything was working and spotless. I'm really pleased.

On second visit from plumber, asked them to park in alley, that is 400' long and only one other car parked, and to come in kitchen door to do the job they couldn't do the first time. Instead, arrived in front of house with no tools to look at job. Told him was bulls..t to pay for time to look at job when he knows what job was, with meter ticking while he would have to walk up 25 stairs, walk through house to see what tools he needed, then to return to car to get tools. He was upset that I used the word bulls..t. Cancelled job. First plumber at least came with tools.

Our apartment had Harry Clark Heating diagnose and change out my heater. All staff were extremely polite, friendly, helpful and considerate. It was a big project and I work from home (remotely) right now. Never a problem. I was very impressed with their work ethic and their ability to just take care of business and interact as needed. DO NOT USE THESE GUYS FOR PLUMBING THEIR PRICES ARE CRAZY ONLY USE FOR HEAT AND AIR.

So everyone in my neighborhood loves these guys and recommended them to me for my new furnace and ducting.  Well it was good if you don't count the downstairs wall heater they had to replace the pilot on 2 times.  But for gas lines and the forced air heat job they did a good job. We ended up replacing but then I asked them to move my washer and dryer hook ups from the lower floor to the upper floor it wasn't so sweet.  The layout is the same just one floor up and super easy access.  I was told this would cost $2000... and that is after already spending $12,000 with them.  I was less than pleased with the price but I was in a hurry so I did it.  Well during my kitchen remodel I come to find they reversed the pipes and for the last 2 years I have been washing my dedicates in hot and my regulars on cold.  For $2000 bucks you would think they could get the pipe right!  To add insult to injury my new plumber fixed it in 10 minutes and said I totally got ripped off for that part of the job.  Man and I gave all their workers free protein powder too.  Jerks

This was the worst plumber we ever hired.  We first called them to replace our water heater.  We suffered cold water three days after the installation while waiting for someone to come out again to correct the mistakes made by the initial installer.

We later (and foolishly) used them again to fix a broken flow restrictor valve.  They sent the same guy who screwed up all water heater, and he went 2 for 2, this time installing the flow restrictor backwards.   He obviously didn't even try a simple 1 minute test that would have shown the problem.

We would NEVER use Harry Clark plumbing again!!!!

I have been using Harry Clark for all of my plumbing since 2004.  Buck was the plumber who always did a great job for me.  I was disappointed when I learned that Buck retired.  Last week, I had a leak under my toilet in the crawl space beneath my house.  Weston came to my house & quickly diagnosed the problem as an old wax ring under that toilet that needed to be replaced.  After the wax ring was replaced, the old fill valve & flapper stopped working properly.  Luckily, Weston was still on site.  Though, he did not have a fill valve on his truck, he returned later in the afternoon with the proper part to install.  I was very pleased with the professional, knowledgeable  & efficient way that Weston fixed my plumbing problems.

Competitive rates, excellent service and craftsmanship.  I'm a former general contractor and currently a homeowner / remodeler and had Harry Clark do two plumbing projects for me.  One involved re-routing some plumbing vents to allow a skylight to be up to code.  The other project was the installation of a tankless water heater and some re-piping from galvanized to copper.  It also involved running a new gas line to the new water heater and venting it properly.  In both jobs the work was done extremely competently and in a timely fashion.  I would definitely hire Harry Clark again and in fact will keep them in mind as my first choice for plumbing if and when I do a kitchen and bath remodel.  As a complement to their excellent work, they have a knack for listening to the customer and offering suggestions (that the customer may not have thought of) to help keep the job cost effective an in proper scale.  In addition, their office staff is very friendly and helpful.

THIS is an update as of 7/28/17.

I had to have my A/C and Bryan 90 furnace replaced this week because HC installed the furnace all wrong.  [See two paragraphs down.]  It's a bit complicated but the end result was that the condensate from the A/C was dribbling down through the Harry Clark installed furnace and corroding the wiring.  That rusted its interior to a point where the circuit breakers were popping to prevent an electrical fire.  The cause, the improper installation, was uncovered when I hired Element Home Solutions to find out why condensate was flowing out over my garage floor.

Initial Reveiw

First, contrary to what their web site indicates If this is am emergency, please call (510) 444-1776. , HC does not have emergency service.  So unless you can guarantee your hot water heater will burst, your furnace won't light, or your AC won't cool during normal work days and hours, you best find someone else to work with for your repair and maintenance needs.

Second, even when they show up (during normal work hours), they often fail to properly fix the problem.  They installed a new HW heater and forgot to install the back-flow check valve:  we had cold water for showers for several weeks until someone figured out they left out the back-flow valve.  And the product lines they push are not all that good.  A 2008 Bryan, top end furnace, has had to have parts replaced several times in the 6 years we've had it.

Finally, they rarely if ever have the repair parts on the truck when they arrive.  So they stretch out the service hours to first look at the job, then go get the parts, and then come back again to install the replacements.

If I were you, I'd find someone else for your plumbing needs.

Harry Clark are crooks!  I hadn't had my heater checked in many years so I called Harry Clark to take a look at it/service it if necessary.  I had someone let them in.  When I came back I'd found that they replaced the thermostat and then they recommended that I replace the heater. They replaced a thermostat that was working perfectly so that made me suspicious about their recommendation that I replace the heater.  In their report, in reference to replacing the heater, they wrote, Checked operation found that unit spills flue gas from draft diverter continuously during operation.  This is a health and safety issue. Recommend unit and flue be replaced.  I wondered if indeed the unit was emitting flue gas so I called PG&E to have the heater tested for gas or carbon monoxide leaks.  PG&E is really the gold standard here as they have the latest testing equipment and they are impartial. If they think there is a safety issue, they'll shut down the heater.  PG&E tested extensively and didn't find any evidence of a gas or carbon monoxide leak. (as in 0% emissions).  So Harry Clark lied in order to get me to spend a couple thousand dollars with them to replace a heater that didn't need replacing.

Just to be sure that there wasn't any OTHER issue with the heater, I had a friend who was a licensed contractor for 30 years look over the unit.  He said it was in perfect working order.  Like I said, crooks.

It's a long story that I don't feel like rehashing, so I'll keep it at a high level.

HC did some sewer work and installed a new heater in my home.

I'm happy to report that the sewer and heater work.

However, I was completely dissatisfied with the customer facing communication.  I never knew if the crews were going to be at my house or not.

They took down some shelving and didn't replace it, as they stated they would.

The sewer crew placed pipes in my neighbors yard!  And my neighbor is a landscape architect, so his yard is amazing.  What in the world were Harry's guys thinking?!

Two stars is all they get.

Writing for my mother, Cie Goulet, who can't seem to sign back in.She recently gave a low Yelp rating for an incomplete repair for he Kohler toilet.  Don, co-owner, got right back to her & scheduled Buck to take care of the problem.  He was wonderful & so knowledgeable about the problem.  She was only charged for parts and the toilet now works beautifully.  Buck is a treasure and this is a company with integrity.
