I put in my own Septic ...and
I put in my own water Well ( dug with a backhoe 16 ft down)
For a remote property.
Who are they:
They sell water, sewer and drain products
Cast iron , abs, hdpe, copper, aluminum.
Why would a home owner need them.
If you are a do it yourselfer! That's why!
Paying a contractor, an engineer, etc to put in a septic could cost 15-25,000 in anchorage.
F()k that!
I was off the grid.
But wanted a legit septic.
Core and main sells schedule 40 plumbing pipe.
French drainpipe. Manhole covers...
I picked up 10' pipe
90-45 degree fittings
Splices , valves, t's, caps and glue.
Geo textile fabric to keep dirt from my French drain to keep my property dry
The best part.
I wanted a 20' section of hdpe for a well.
Holy Moses. This stuff is like gold in
Alaska.
It's a thousand dollars plus...and is sold like hot cakes.
Road construction sucks it up.
I wanted 36 or 48
Hard to acquire sizes.
Ferguson..... special order.
Another place..... special order.
I'm not totally sure who the main customers are here .
Subdivision creators?
The state?
Cities?
They were so accommodating to this small ( not to me) customer.
Helped me load, smiled , asked questions.
Answered questions.
I was incredibly surprised this low overhead, outdoor lot , construction focused , PROFESSIONAL, outfit.
Held me by the hand and
Sold me what I needed...,NOT what I asked for !
My review scratches the surface.
They sell
From what I can tell.
Anything for your business.
Where the utility stops.
From hospital to home built cabin in the woods
With 10 star customer service.

Unbelievably poor customer service; not sure who they have on their lines taking emergency calls, but the woman was incredibly rude and unhelpful. We will not be requiring their services ever again.

Called out for broken water pipe between my 2nd floor and third floor bathrooms. Pipe had burst and Mountain Mechanical
Took care of the repairs in short time at a
Fair price. After my ceiling caved in. No
Thanks to State Farm insurance that gave
Me problems with coverage from start to finish. I finally repaired the Sheetrock, tape and knockdown texture myself. Needless to say I'll be shopping for a new insurance company. As for Mountain Mechanical.... thanks for your prompt and professional services.

Update: had Trey install a Navien boiler in my rental unit that we're renovating. Excellent service again. He was on time, thorough, and cheaper than the competition. I've attached photos of both my home's Navien boiler and the condo's.

If there was any way to give more stars, I most definitely would.
My house was 59 degrees Sunday morning. After contacting 3 or 4 plumbers, to no avail, I found 24hr Arctic Services. Seeing a 5-star rating I decided to call them. They came over around 1 p.m. I have a Knight high efficiency boiler. (Which I do NOT recommend. Way too complicated even for the pros.) The boiler kept locking out no matter what they did. JD, the owner, drove in from the Valley to assess the situation. He had the technician, Jerry (great guy) stay and keep resetting the boiler so I could get some heat. They were here for several hours diagnosing the problem. They weren't charging me for the standby time. They got the boiler up and running at least enough to get my house back up to a reasonable temperature, even though still chilly. It was finally determined that new sensors were needed. Of course the only places to get these sensors were closed on Sunday we would have experience a cold night. But this was in no way their fault. (Crappy boiler. Don't buy a Knight). JD went home and researched the issue on the internet. He said there were only 2 known internet blogs that related to the issues we were having. Monday morning JD tried to contact the manufacturer, but to no avail. They were closed for the holidays. He contacted the local sensor reps and had a lengthy discussion about the problem. They all agreed instead of replacing the motherboard (about $800), new sensors would probably fix the problem. The sensors cost about $30 apiece. JD installed the new sensors and boiler was back up and running.
Now the biggest reasons for the 5 stars. As I said earlier, they were here a long time. Not all hours were billed at time and half. Or billed at all. They were much more concerned of solving the conundrum than nickel and diming me to death for standby time. JD actually loved the challenge of trying to fix the problem more than the money itself. They did not abandon me!!!! I am completely satisfied and understand that they did all they could do on Sunday night. Not their fault they couldn't fix it, though they tried like the dickens to.
I have had contact with numerous, numerous plumbing firms over the years, both professionally and unfortunately personally too. I do not say this lightly, BY FAR AWAY, THE ABSOLUTE BEST CUSTOMER SERVICE I HAVE EVER RECEIVED. PLUMBER OR NOT!!! THEY ACTUALLY CARED!!!

Terrible!!!! Poor workmanship causing more problems than they fix. Just replacing 2 fittings cost me $1,000 dollars and 2 additional visits. After the first visit we had no heat upstairs. After second visit they broke my thermostat ????why !!!! and when he was gone we had several leaks. Anyway after 3rd visit I'm keeping my fingers crossed hoping they didn't break anything else. Will never call them again. Hard lesson learned.

I just had the most horrific experience with a driver working from R & S Plumbing and Heating. I am literally shaking from this man's lack of human decency.
I haven't been to Eagle River since the new McDonald's was built. I've been pulling into their parking lot my entire life. So I wasn't expecting that they'd changed to two enter and exit lanes when I pulled into the suicide lane on Eagle River road. There was a car pulling out of the lot which blocked my view of the exit sign in my line of sight. So I pulled in beside them as they pulled out with plenty of room.
That's when I came face to face in my little car to this plumbing van. The man pointed to the exit sign, now clearly visible beside my vehicle. I promptly made an oh my goodness, I clearly didn't see that! face before motioning, asking if he would back up a few feet and let me through.
Common decency and compassion would dictate the following response: this woman didn't see the new sign, I'll just back up a few feet and let her safely pass. Now she'll know for future reference that the parking lot structure has changed.
That is not what this man did. No. He crossed his arms and shook his head and decided I needed to learn a lesson. He refused to move the few feet it would have taken for me to safely enter the lot. Instead he forced me to backward into oncoming traffic on the busy main road through Eagle River.
At this point I am flabbergasted that this man lacked all compassion and forced me into a dangerous situation because he simply refused to move. At this point I'm upset that I, a pregnant woman with my mother, was faced with gunning it to get to safety. At this point I'm absolutely baffled that he REFUSED to move a few feet to let me pass.
It gets better! The man drove back around and waited for me to go through the drive thru so that he could yell at me! That's right. He looped back around, parked, and waited for me to come back out. So I whipped out my cell phone, took a picture of him, which he did in turn, and proceeded to leave the lot. Again driving the wrong way for sake of getting my picture. Which NO ONE else cared about or even noticed. And this man got out of his van and followed me around the parking lot to continue to yell at me.
Needless to say, I left McDonald's shaking and in tears, under waaaaay more stress than is healthy. We will never do business with R&S Plumbing and Heating. This man is everything that is wrong society, forcing someone into a dangerous situation because he was too inconsiderate to step aside. I'm starting my day absolutely horrified and trying to calm down. My baby does NOT need this level of stress .

I have used Extreme Heat since 2009 when they put in a new furnace in my house. I had yearly service calls to keep it in good working order. A few years ago I noticed a strong natural gas smell outside. Enstar was called out several times and always determined it was nothing on their end. Extreme Heat came out multiple times and fixed many other things at a cost of thousands over the various visits, but the odor of natural gas was never resolved. I finally gave Moore Heating a call on a friend's recommendation in Dec. 2020 when the gas smell was in the house. Moore's service person immediately noted the furnace was not level and showed me all the corrosion and other damage as a result of that. He couldn't say if it was not installed correctly or had shifted in the earthquake. Either way, a service person from Extreme Heat had been out multiple times and none of them ever noticed the furnace wasn't level. I prefer to do business locally in Eagle River, but I will always use Moore from now on. They were much more professional and helpful in resolving this problem.

Agree with Kelly...my husband called to have them come out and do a quote and they were very rude and said they would also charge us travel time from the last job the tech was at to when they got to our home? Very unprofessional. On a lighter note, there are some great ones in town to deal with that are super professional.
