Best Plumbing Services in Boston MA
Two stars because the work itself was fine (edit: Downgraded to 1 star. They damaged the seal on our tub so the kitchen ceiling leaks when we shower... Yeah, not great.) Administration and payment were a nightmare!
My husband scheduled the initial consultation and appointment for replacing a leaking pipe. That itself was $195, and he was given a verbal ballpark of $1800 for two plumbers for 6-8 hours for the rest of the work. Okay, sounds good. He talked to Donna at Big Blue and was told that a formal quote would be emailed for our review. The quote was never sent (I didn't know this at the time... husband was arranging things up to this point)
I work from home so I can be there while they work. They're supposed to show up between 8am and 11am. One of the two plumbers finally shows up at 11:40am and the other one shows up at noon. Still, not a big deal, I'm home all day.
Around 4:10pm, they finish up and start talking payment. They want a check for $1800 on the spot. Now, this is a company that accepts credit cards, they advertise this on their site, we paid them by credit card for the initial consultation, and they spent way less time (9 plumber hours instead of 12-16) than we were originally told. So I have some concerns.
One of the plumbers calls up his boss says she's saying she doesn't want to pay, hands his phone to me, and now I'm talking to Kevin, the owner of the company. Kevin pressures me into paying the $1800 by check, then says he'll accept a credit card as well. I say well, you know, I'd like to see some paperwork, I was never sent a quote, we were told 6-8 hours with two plumbers... He says what, you're not going to pay? and My guys did the work and I just want to make sure my guys get paid! Basically accusing me of refusing to pay.
Now I'm standing out on my porch with this guy's phone, the plumbers are both staring at me by their truck with a combination of worry/anger, I'm sure they think I'm some deadbeat.
Then, to his credit, Kevin does say Okay, what do you think is fair to pay? The problem is, I have no clue. I don't know what they bill per hour, I've never seen a breakdown of services, I have absolutely nothing to go on here. So I just said I don't know what's fair which doesn't seem to be helping my I really DO want to pay you, but not $1800 on the spot without any sort of paper trail argument. Kevin's pressuring me into some lopsided on the spot negotiation so he can get my credit card info. It's REALLY uncomfortable.
Kevin says that he can't send me any sort of invoice because the office is closed. So the office is too closed to provide any records or quotes or information about the jobs, but not closed enough that you can't harass people on the phone for payment? Okay.
So I call on Monday asking for an invoice. They say they'll get me one later. I call on Tuesday asking for an invoice, they say they'll get me one on Thursday. On FRIDAY, they send me a paid in full invoice for the original $195 consultation. I call again asking for the invoice I actually care about.
The Friday call is a mess. Donna thinks that Kevin sent it, Kevin thinks that Donna sent it, the woman I originally reached can't access work records. Finally, I find out that the invoice is apparently around $1200 (not the $1800 Kevin tried to get me to pay) and the plumbers had inflated their hours from 9 to 10 hours. They're confused as to why I'm upset about this, and their lack of professionalism.
One of the women (I think her name was Jenn) actually said Listen, when I had some work done on my house, it was just a couple guys in a truck! I paid them and I didn't even get an invoice! Like, okay, thanks for telling me that story. Now can you send me the invoice I was told I was going to get yesterday?
Finally just got the invoice, for $1,194.66 (with a due date that says two days ago!?). I emailed them back asking how to pay by credit card (no links or payment info anywhere). I really don't want to speak to these people again. Hoping it can be handled online and we don't have to deal with them.
Edit: Apparently they don't check email. We were sleeping in on a Veteran's day holiday Monday and got a friendly reminder wake up call from Kevin this morning at 7:44am. (got invoice Friday afternoon, Kevin called Monday morning to check in). Paid the a******s. Good riddance.
Summary: Plumbers were late, original verbal ballpark was 3-7 hours over the time it actually took. Seal on tub drain was damaged, leak is worse than the one they fixed. Owner and the two plumbers at my house pressured me to pay $1800 on the spot by check, without any sort of paper trail or invoice, and accused me of not wanting to pay them. Had to call three times to get an invoice, which totaled just under $1200. Called us Monday at 7:44 am to harass us about an invoice they sent Friday afternoon. I've dealt with lots of contractors before, but this was an incredibly shady and mismanaged organization.

Mr. Ostroski saved our family from many days without a bathtub. I texted him our issue early morning and he solved our problem before lunch. He arrived with Steve who was very helpful and gave us few hints which will prevent similar situations from happening again. BIG THANK YOU for both of them!

We got help with diagnosing and replacing a leaking sink disposal. They were very helpful and responsive during the entire process

Consolidated Plumbing is simply the way to go. They are professional, show up on time, do great work, and leave little to clean up. I was recently gutting our upstairs bathroom and could not figure out how to move the traps for a new double vanity. I called them on a Friday morning at 9 and a plumber was there by 10:30! I have used them for three total jobs and they have been great every time. They may cost a bit more than other places, but the professionalism is well worth it. Don't cheap out on plumbing.

I'm very glad to have found Hinchey Brothers Plumbing, thanks to other positive yelp reviews. I've had them out for 2 projects now. One was a simple outdoor spigot replacement, and the other was a (semi emergency) bathroom remodel. With short notice, Mike came in 1st thing in the morning to remove a leaking toilet flange, the vanity, and capped the pipes. After the new tile floor was laid down, he came back right one time, and worked hard throughout the day to replace the toilet and flange, replace all the shut-offs in the bathroom, put the vanity back in, and even replace the main water shutoff with a new ball valve. THANK YOU MIKE for your hard work! And Thank you Hinchey Brothers for being able to come out and get my tenants bathroom back to them as fast as possible. As a new homeowner, I'm thrilled to know you're close by.
10/2018 update:
Bill at Hinchey just replaced 2 boilers and 2 hot water tanks in my house. His work was impeccable! Meticulous! I'm beyond impressed with the quality of the installation. Ken, the owner worked closely with me to ensure the project fell within the guidelines in order to receive the MA Save rebates. A+ experience once again.

Jonny and his team were FANTASTIC! I have worked with other plumbing companies in the past and by far Rami & Sons were my best experience. I had a big leak and old pipes in my house and Jonny came by and stayed late figuring out the problem that I was having, he made me feel much calm and comfortable and more importantly, they did a GREAT job! My plumbing is working great now and he even recommended someone who could help me with other issues around the house. I highly recommend them to anyone who is looking for a reliable company.

Paul is great. Quick response. Fixed my radiator the next day with high quality work. Highly recommended!

I'm not sure why everyone on yelp gave Frank just glowing reveiws, because my experience with him was completely different. His quote came out higher than most and his expertise left me a bit concerned. Call him if you wish, but I found better options out there.

Had a problem with upstairs toilet. Called 4 people, couldn't get anyone here within a week. Call Mass Plumbing and Heating, Welter came within 3 hours. Welter was respectful of current Covid issues, he was efficient, cleaned everything up, and in general...a nice guy to have working in the house. Highly recommend! Barbara C.

I needed to get my tub snaked out and a replacement shower head installed. When I called Charlie, we had the appointment set up in just a few minutes. On the day of the appointment, Charlie actually showed up early, got his stuff ready and was ringing the door bell right on time. The best part of all of this, is that he was done very quickly, no muss no fuss, no problem. And he wore a belt!!! :)

We hired Casper Plumbing and Heating to replace an old water heater. They got back to me quickly with a quote, and on the day of the installation, got the new heater up and running in about an hour. Great service from a local small business.

Decided to get proactive with our 20 year old American Standard furnace. Selected Main Stream Mechanical to do the install and couldn't be happier. Technicians were very knowledgeable and professional. Very well run company with great communication. Couldn't be happier.

Matt and his team (John and Henry) have helped me replace two water heaters in our building at two different times. As a newish homeowner, I was generally clueless about water heater issues and they were all super patient with me. Each time, they were able to come replace the heaters immediately and offered reasonable prices. This week I called Matt at 10pm and was surprised he picked up - I was able to send photos of the heater and take measurements that night and the team was there the next day with a replacement. Our basement is a little bit tricky to navigate, but Matt was very transparent about cost and the time it would take. They are definitely my go-to guys now.

I highly recommend Simon from High Quality Plumbing. We had a challenging installation for a tankless gas-fired hot water heater due to a partially finished basement. In addition, it's a long run from the gas meter to the water heater. Simon provided a detailed quote and was very accommodating with scheduling the job. He took care of all the details and was very responsive to all my questions. The work was top-notch and I'll definitely go with High Quality Plumbing for future needs.

Fantastic service! They went above and beyond to fix an issue I had installing a smart thermostat. Rick was especially available, responsive and respectful.

Mike Richard has done outstanding work at our home over the past 8 years. He works so efficiently he actually jogs to his truck and back to get any needed supplies. Mike is always timely and communicates about any issues that he finds, offering various solutions. Most recently, he put me in touch with other contractors that have also done superb work.

I usually read reviews before I call a company but I didn't this time cause it was an emergency. we had no heat on the most coldest day in feb 2015 . he took 5 hrs to get here. looked at my furnance said it was filthy with dust blew a little dust out w his mouth and said we needed a new furnance cause we hadent been keeping up w maitnance. bottom line he charged me $182.00 for ten min of work. took out my filter and said it was filthy and didn't replace it he said they don't carry filters anymore. you would think for that price I would of gotten a filter. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY he did fix it though and I don't need a new furnance this place sucks

Cranney sent Frank to take care of an emergency at my home on a Saturday night. (Everyone else I called wasn't answering their phone - was a Pats playoff game night!) He was friendly, competent, and did a very professional job. They are a large company, and so charge accordingly, but the work was top notch. I also like that the Cranney's donate a lot to non-profit charities on the North Shore.
