Best Plumbing Services in Saint Paul, MN
Overpriced and unprofessional. Quite frankly I'm astonished at the lack of professionalism displayed today. We called him for an emergency several weeks ago and he was able to help (at a premium price of course, because it was 6pm and after hours). He also gave us a quote for several things we knew we'd need to do. It was extremely overpriced and we ended up being able to find friends to help us for free with a lot of it, but there were a few things left we knew we'd need a plumber to do. We're having other work done at the same time so the water main was unfortunately not accessible. I did not realize that he would need to access the water main to unclog a drain tub. I still don't see why he would need to do that. I was putting the baby down for a nap when he arrived, but left the door open with a sign for him to come on in. He does not give you an arrival time until 30 minutes prior so there wasn't much notice. Instead of calling me when he thought there was a problem, he interrupts my husband who works from home, and is clearly in the middle of a virtual patient care visit. He throws a hissy fit tantrum that rivals my 2 year olds, and storms out yelling about how he's seen red flag after red flag and you can find yourself a new plumber! I'm not sure if the red flags he's thinking of are the fact that we didn't have the money to waste on his 4-5k quote (the most expensive one we got of the 3 plumbers we had out too). I have had a lot of contractors working on our houses and have never encountered this level of unprofessionalism. Ever. Do NOT recommend.

I have no idea how we stumbled up St. Paul Pipeworks, but I am SOOO glad we did! They are our go-to for any plumbing needs. We have called them with big and small jobs and no matter what the issue, they treat it like it's the most important thing they are doing. Every employee we have dealt with has been extremely professional and courteous, and up front about everything. I will never use another plumber -- they are AMAZING!!!!

We hired Josh to install a rangehood above our stove. Josh pretty much had to start from scratch -- the previous owners had left an old liner in the space but there was no light or fan. Josh did all the research to find one that would fit into the customized space, shopped to get us the best price for the unit and installed it within two weeks of our first call to him. He was extremely professional and did a great job of communicating with me throughout the process. I will hire Josh again AND recommend him to my friends!

The owner, Jason, promptly responded to our phone call and scheduled an appointment the next day. We needed an outdoor faucet replaced. Since the faucet was welded, the challenge was to find the pipe located in our lower level with its finished ceiling. Jason accomplished this and completed the work to our satisfaction. As he was leaving, I asked him to look at the toilet on the main floor which did not flush prompty. He had the part with him and repaired it, charging us only for the part itself. If you're looking for a prompt, professional, courteous plumber who does excellent work at a realistic price, he's your man.

I started my morning with a call from my rental tenant that the hot water heater had gone out again. Being that I live in Montana i jumped on yelp looking for someone close that could help. Tim's was the first one back to me! In less than 10 minutes no less! Upon hearing my dilemma, Ashley, one of their fine dispatchers jumped int action and had someone at the house within a couple of hours (awesome). Shortly thereafter i had a call from the plumber on site who explained the situation. I decided to go ahead and replace the unit, hoping that it could get done by Friday fingers crossed. He told me to call dispatch and they would advise. I did and Ashley came through again and said they could have it installed by the end of the day!! I don't mind saying that it is tough to find good customer service these days. Tim's is definitely the exception! They did an amazing job and I couldn't be more pleased.

I wish we had called metro instead of Deans last year! Mitch came out- on time, having called ahead to let us know he was on the way, and did a great job! He was polite, knowledgeable, and tenacious. He showed me the cause of the issue and gave me prices before proceeding when the first fix wasn't the actual cause of the trouble. We are very pleased with his diligence- it was fixed finally and he had all the supplies in his truck so he didn't have to come back!

We had an unexpected plumbing issue turn up out of nowhere and looked to Yelp for some help. Mark was the first to reply with a message followed by a phone call. From the moment the interaction started I could tell that he was someone I wanted to do business with. His professionalism, customer focus, and most of all honesty is why I will use his services in the future and can highly recommend him.

Wow! They have not been out to do the service yet, but I am completely wowed by their customer service so far. Within 10 minutes of requesting a quote, they provided a fair, upfront total cost. On top of that, they are sending a plumber right away this afternoon. I'm very, very impressed.
Update: awesome, fast service for the price quoted. The technician was super friendly. I highly recommend!

BUYER BEWARE! I WAS CHARGED $530 TODAY FOR A JOB THAT RUMPCA WOULD HAVE CHARGED $250 FOR ONE YEAR AGO: PLEASE READ ON:
RUMPCA NO LONGER BILLS CUSTOMERS BASED ON PARTS AND LABOR. I Just spoke with Mr. Rumpca on the phone and he explained to me We stopped doing that a year ago. The least they could have done for a long term customer was tell me up front that parts and labor charges are out the window. Mr. Rumpca further explained We now charge a flat rate.
IN CASE YOU'RE WONDERING WHY RUMPCA NOW CHARGES A FLAT RATE here's how it works straight from the mouth of a reputable small business organization: When a small business is paid a flat rate for completing a service, it can make more money by performing more services in a shorter amount of time Unfortunately that means you, the customer pays more. In my case a lot more. More than double the price of what I would have paid under Rumpca's prior labor and parts pricing system.
My furnace was not working properly yesterday. So I called Rumpca and they stopped by. They ended up replacing the gas control valve. Under Rumpca's prior practice of charging for parts and labor the total cost would have been $250. Here's how that breaks out:
- LABOR $150: According to Homeguide The average cost for a service call is a minimum charge of between $75 - $200 and that is applied to the first hour of labor. I'm using $150 which is near the top of Homeguide's range.
The technician was at my house for 1/2 hour - SEE TWO PHOTOS AT BOTTOM. Here's what he did:
1.) He looked in the error code window on the front of the furnace and it indicated that the gas control valve was bad
2.) He removed 2 screws and took off the furnace door
3.) He detached 2 electric quick disconnects from the existing gas valve
4.) He backed off the 2 threaded fasteners and removed the existing gas valve
5.) He rubbed thread sealant onto both threads and attached the new gas valve
6.) He plugged 2 electric quick disconnects into the new gas valve
7. He ran a quick pressure test
8.) He refastened the furnace door with 2 screws.
THAT'S $430 DOLLARS FOR 1/2 HOUR OF LABOR - THAT IS WHAT I PAID UNDER RUMPCAS FLAT RATE PRICING - UNDER THE PRIOR LABOR + PARTS PRICING MY LABOR COST WOULD HAVE BEEN $150.
- PARTS $100: The gas control valve Rumpca installed is sold on Amazon for $75. Since Rumpca is a business, they pay about $50 for the valve. Assuming they double that to make a profit on the part, $100 for parts.
- TOTAL COST THAT RUMPCA WOULD HAVE CHARGED ME A YEAR AGO WHEN THEY WERE STILL CHARGING A FAIR PRICE BASED ON PARTS AND LABOR WOULD BE $250 ($150 labor + $100 parts). UNDER THEIR NEW FLAT RATE PRICING I WAS CHARGED $530. That's right! $530 dollars for 1/2 hour of labor and a part that cost them around $50.
YOU NO LONGER RECEIVE AN ITEMIZED BILL THAT BREAKS OUT PARTS AND LABOR - Just a single line with the final amount. It's like taking your car to the auto mechanic and paying an expensive bill and you have no idea how much you paid for parts and labor - Since you're not a car mechanic or in this case a heating and a/c technician you have no idea how the costs break out for the parts and the labor - Not exactly good for an informed consumer but great for the small business, in this case Rumpca.
RUMPCA IS NOT THE REPUTABLE COMPANY THAT I'VE BEEN DOING BUSINESS WITH ALL THESE YEARS. In my opinion their new business model is to gouge as much as they can from the customer with flat rate pricing and manage their Google reviews so they look good (That night after they preformed the service they solicited a Google review from me via text message just like shady online companies do).
I will be filing a formal complaint with the Minnesota Attorney General and the BBB - Rumpca should have notified me up front that I was no longer being charged for parts and labor as has been the case for many years. Morally suspect to say the least when a company changes their terms of service without notifying an existing customer. I will also post my review on all other online review sites so others know the score.

Beware of this company. Matt's Plumbing billed me for $385 for 20 minutes of time that required no tools. I e-mailed them and requested that they contact me to discuss the over charge and the have completely ignored me. I have reported them the BBB also.

Wow. I just paid Scott $175 to come out and tell me what I already knew (bad zone valve). He gives me an estimate of $1200 to replace it! When I asked why it was so expensive he just shrugged and said, that's what the boss says. He wasn't at all phased that I was going to look for a second opinion - I'm sure he was happy to take the $175 for the 30 minutes it took him. I've definitely learned a hard lesson with this experience. It's embarrassing to say that I actually paid him the $175 - what was I thinking?!

No idea of the quality of this service as they never showed up for my scheduled tune up appointment. I waited over 2 weeks for an appointment and when the person didn't show up I called them. First I was told I had the wrong date. I did not have the wrong date. They called me back and said they had to reschedule my appointment but had FORGOTTEN TO CALL ME. We had cleaned out the furnace room and were awaiting the results of the inspection to determine if we could do another home improvement or if we'd need a new furnace in the near future. They REALLY caused problems for us by doing this! I wouldn't waste my time with this company as they are obviously unreliable and have little concern for anyone's schedule other than their own. There are better providers out there who will put their customers first.

MDC just did a job at my property. They made the situation worse and left a mess. The damage that MDC did caused flooding and ceiling damage.
When I spoke with the owner this morning, she was both unprofessional and unapologetic.
I asked if she would be coming to fix the problem or if I should find another vendor to clean up her mess. In response she called me a profane name and hung up on me.
