Unfortunately, I need to leave a very negative review for my experience with City Plumbing. I chose them initially based on the amazing overall reviews, however, I have been sorely disappointed with their service, timeliness and resolution of an issue that one of their technicians caused.
I had City Plumbing over when we first purchased our house to make some changes/repairs, including replacing the water pressure regulator, replacing the kitchen sink and all the connections there (including the garbage disposal, which became the issue later), some minor fixes in the bathrooms. All-in-all over $2000 in repairs, but everything seemed to go well so we were initially happy.
However, some time later we noticed the hardwood flooring in the kitchen start to buckle and swell and found the garbage disposal was leaking and draining backwards to the wall and seeping under the floor. Nothing was leaking forward, to suspect a leak in that area until the floor started to go.
Well, we called City Plumbing back and they sent a new plumber out to assess the situation and he found that the garbage disposal was improperly installed without the disposal flange to anchor the disposal to the sink. It seems that over time (and this took months) the disposal, from normal use and shaking, slowly separated itself from the sink without this flange clamp and started leaking. There was no way for us to know when or that this would ever happen, or how long this would take to start leaking. He was able to quickly replace the appropriate hardware and now the disposal appears to be well sealed to the sink again.
Well, I asked customer service that since this damage to the hardwood floors was due to their error with improperly installing the disposal flange, that they should pay for the damage to the hardwood floors. She stated that another technician would need to assess the damage to the hardwood, and I said fine. First, someone was supposed to show on Saturday 2/13/21 from 11A - 1P, then the dispatch called at 1130, that no, the supervisor for actually needed to see and he would come from 4P-6P. Again, I said fine, at least the supervisor will see this. Well, no one shows by 6PM, so I called back and they told me, oh he's caught up, someone will call you tomorrow to schedule. I asked that the supervisor call me directly, and he arranged to come the next morning from 8A-9A. Finally, he shows up the next morning and agrees that the damage to the hardwood is extensive, tells me that they work with a water damage company closely, and someone will contact me the following day (Monday, 2/15).
The next morning I get a call from the owner of the business, Paul, who tells me that they will not cover anything since it had been more than 30 days since the original install and we should have called them a about the improper install, which would have prevented the leak.
How am I supposed to know what a properly installed garbage disposal looks like?! I'm sorry, but that is their job. And, it didn't leak right away! What am I supposed to do, check the under the sink every day, just in case the plumber messed up, when he said everything is good to go? Now, I am stuck with the water damage bills, removal and replacement of hardwood flooring.
I would caution anyone who is looking for a plumber, that this company will install something incorrectly, then tell you it's your fault for not catching their error and sticking you with the bill for repairs.
EDIT: Paul, there was no sign of leaking until the floor started to buckle. So, controlled or not, the leak caused irreversible damage to our floors due to improper install by one of your technicians. There was an entire piece of the mounting apparatus missing! I know it's hard to take responsibility after a year, but the only reason this thing leaked in the first place was because it was improperly installed by YOUR technician. Why would I continue to work with you or use your moisture damage team?
