Bel-Red Electric

We had a car charger installed as well as a new electric panel and a few more 120V outlets in our garage. Everything went very well with Bel-Red Electric. Our electricians were Greg and Barak, and our customer service contact was Tim. They communicated well about what it would take to perform the work and gave a detailed quote. I liked it that they gave a quote for each part of the work so that we could mix and match, depending on our budget and what we wanted done. In our case, we had about three different options and this was clearly presented so that we could make an informed decision. I enjoyed working with everyone at Bel-Red. They were very communicative, prompt, and professional. We are very happy with their work!

Refused to even consider giving me a bid on a small job because they said they 'weren't certified to work on my kind of house'.  Contacted the state and  there's no special certification; heck, I bought a permit a couple of years ago to do some small electrical jobs myself, and I'm not an electrician and had never even done electrical work before...

Great at troubleshooting. We have used their services through out the years. Had our electrical panel replaced and expanded years ago and recently got help with an outdated exterior junction causing brown outs.

Driving well over the speed limit in a box van on the top of Hwy 18 Eastbound at Tiger Summit cutting off a Semi Truck in the rain was the stupidest driving maneuver I've seen in a while. In the end while doing the speed limit I ended up behind your truck in the turn lane stop light entering I90 West. Drive better B18704X (license plate)!

It's been a year now since they were out and still no response from the owner.  I guess the 100% satisfaction guarantee does not mean 100% of the time.  You've been warned.
Update- 2 years and still haven't heard anything from the owner.
Update-3 years- and still nothing from anyone at the business.  Good thing I'm patient.

Had a very special case of vaulted ceilings to replace lights and fan in the house, every local electrician wouldn't do it, since anything above 16ft is higher liability and you need 2-man job. So I called Bel-Red Electric and got appointment setup.

The guys did a great job, explaining what was up to code and not and what needed replacing, took all day, but everything looked good!

Bel-Red Electric will cost you more but its because they are a professional company and their bids reflect that.

Avoid at all cost, not just because they charge at least 2x more expensive than what most other electricians charge in the area.  They spend a lot on ads but not so much on quality control.  I had my power panel upgraded to make more room for additional switches.  He couldn't finish the job in one day, so left me a power generator at the end of day which is only enough to power my lights.  Later I found out that the job can be easily completed within a day and that my outlets were not installed professionally because they were not pigtailed.  You would think you are paying more for quality.  In the end, you are really just paying more for their advertising budget.

Ethics for this company is in decline.  No personal responsibility. Disappointed because they have performed well in the past.  I made and paid for an appointment to learn the correct product to order.  I paid for that appointment and was told the install would be about $1,000 dollars.  After the product arrived the electrician came back and then bid $2,904.00 to have the work done.  I had no clue and went on with the work.  The first part of the bid required 12 screws to be put into indoor window ledges, no ladder.  Total for that part of the bid - THREE HUNDRED SIXTY-EIGHT DOLLARS!!!!!!!!!  

Although  the service worker  told me this was a firm bid, after the fact when he went to get started on the back,   he informed me the job could only be completed with a firecode outdoor light fixture base, which would cost an extra $100.00.  (Actual charge $117.00)  This was after had spent all of five minutes putting  in the 12 screws to secure  small security cameras for $368.00.   The job went downhill from there, the product he had recommended was complete junk.  Yet he wanted top dollar for the Install.  If something was easier like the cameras, the bid stood.  If it was tougher like the unforseen light box, the bid increased.

The motion light installed out back did not have a way to keep it on for evening use it just blinked off and on.  He left after a couple hours of work, 2 hours 20 minutes to put in the 12 screws and change out  a back porch light.    (All product provided)   I cut the job off the next morning and let it go, paid over $550.00 total when he returned the next day.    The only thing positive accomplished was to switch out an outdoor light fixture with one that meets fire code.  Besides the ethics issue, this person needs training in expressing himself.  He comes off as one who is very emotionally injured.

Now I am left having to hire a different company to come out and put in a light for the back porch which can be turned on when needed.  The service worker told me the next morning that he did not have one on the truck even through that huge truck was brimming with lights.  His plan was to come out on a different day for an additional service day charge!!!!!  Welcome to America.

This company provided terrible service. On top of the poor experience the pricing was 3-4 times more expensive than what other companies charged for the same work. My wife called them to have two light fixtures installed. They would not give any estimates over the phone, unlike other companies we spoke to, but since they had other positive reviews we took a chance never thinking they would come in at several times more cost than the other companies. When they came out they were abrupt with my wife and then quoted her $2,600 for two lights. This was several times more expensive than the other companies had given us. When I pointed out we had had similar work done before at more than half this price, and other companies had given us different pricing less than half what they were trying to charge they demanded the site visit fee of $69 and left in a huff. I sent a note to the company about my experience and never heard back. Three days later I had the work done for $600.

Clearly their model is to make you pay for them to come to your house first so that you feel silly for not having the work completed. They are also a bit rude and condescending that of course no one else could do the work like they could. It was a fairly high pressure situation for my wife that she had to come and get me to talk to them instead. Highly recommend you find other companies to work with.

As others have noted, Bel-Red is over priced and inflexible, especially for small jobs.
Don't be rushed by the pressures of your project, they count on this. Look around for a more flexible solution.

You will pay for them to drive to your home. You will pay for them to estimate the work that needs to be done (even if that work has already been clearly defined by contractor or city permits). Even if you don't agree with the estimate, you will owe Bel-Red several hundred dollars for pitching your business.

Don't even bother to call them - they are greedy and looking for fools - Bel-Red Electric will charge you for estimate $50 (just to come and look).

I used their services to install ceiling fan in my bedroom. Very good impression: called 30 min before arrival, arrived on time, clearly explained what has to be done, why and costs. Proposed two options. Proposed me Prime Card discount (which I have). Complete work in reasonable time, very accurate, demonstrated me fan operations. The guy was very nice and polite.
Price was reasonable to me, likely you can find cheaper, but have to know where to look. I had bad experience searching for electric before.
Definitely recommend and will use myself when needed.

I had the company do major upgrades several years ago including the panel. I called them twice to change out some circuit breakers on my panel that they installed. No calls were returned. This job would take one hour but it appear Bel-Red doesn't want small jobs, not enough profit. They used to be a great company but have gone downhill.

Couldn't have been more pleased! They were able to fit me in on the same day. Technician (David) was friendly, knowledgeable, and thorough. I would definitely recommend them, and would use them again in the future if a need arose.

Well run company. Matt did a very good job and made the correct recommendations before and during project. He bids for the work and also performs the work so no surprises. It helps that the company stocks their trucks with inventory so they can start quickly. Stacy office manager was very responsive and upfront with timing and staging the work.

We cannot say enough good comments about Bel - Red Electric and the two electricians that connected our skylight blinds to the motor.  We were having terrible customer service with the installers, but Ryan and Greg stuck with us and got our blinds hooked to electricity and to work.
 Greg happened to come as a substitute when Ryan was sick.  He had not been to our home before and to deal with installers that were not willing to explain the situation.  He studied the directions and was able to come on another day and get things hooked up in our attic.
 Ryan came a few days later and checked all the connections, which were fine.On that day, the installers did not show up. Ryan noticed that the blinds that we bought did not have connecting wires.  He talked to the sales representative and told her to get the connecting attachment ordered. That he wanted to make his customers happy and get the blinds working.
 Come to find out the connectors were not being manufactured any longer, so Ryan made the connecting wires. Ryan said all along that he wanted to please us, since we had been waiting over 2 years for the skylight blinds.  He accomplished this and was very helpful and supportive to us.
 We highly recommend Bel-Red Electric for your electrical needs.

Didn't use them. They want 39 dollars just to come LOOK before they can give any kind of estimate for a simple ceiling fan install. Last Electrician I called had me send him a photo with my cell phone (of the existing box and wires in the ceiling) and was able to quote me over the phone. (There is already electric run to the ceiling for a light so this is not a major job) They might be great but if I have to pay 40 bucks to even find out if their job price is competitive I will never know.

I was very pleased with the work done on my house. 2 outlets were dead, and those were troubleshot and fixed quickly. The second project was a little trickier and turned out great. We had florescent lighting in the kitchen, we wanted to replace it with track lighting, which means moving the junction box and doing a bit of work. It turned out as good as we could've hoped for.

Additionally, the electrician talked me through everything and was very careful to keep everything clean. He wore booties over his shoes, used a drop cloth, and vacuumed up after finishing. I've had numerous people out to work on my house and he was by far and away the best about keeping things clean.

Greg coordinated with PSE to repair our weatherhead. He explained any complications and how PSE needed to be involved, then he scheduled his visit with PSE and made it happen. I would work with Bel-Red Electric again any day.

They even fixed the mistakes other company's electrician made.
They are very professional and know the jobs. We will hire them again!!

Great experience, after having gone through 2 other electrical contractors with horrible results.   These guys bring out a truck loaded with whatever they might need and are extremely professional, up-front about fixed costs, and do the job right the first time.  I am very impressed.

Had to send a note - I had a problem (gremlin) with a breaker in my home.  First electrician (Greg) out was polite, informative and solved the problem - he discussed the issue with me and the costs - I was quite pleased and service was completed as promised.  He mentioned they would be back if it didn't work - well, it didn't quite work.  Monday morning first thing they sent out David - the wizard - to figure out what was causing a fault.  He was great, also polite and very knowledgeable.  With careful sluething he finally figured out a problem plaguing me for 4 years!  I am super happy and they didn't charge for the follow up!  I would have paid for his time.  Unlike others, I feel they are very fair in their pricing.

Professional, thorough, and reasonable.  We have used them for several projects and recently had a home safety electrical inspection done.  Matt carefully explained the results to us and gave us a great understanding of what was a risk.  I highly recommend their services and appreciate their focus on safety and doing things right the first time!

We had some exhaust fan issue in one of our restroom. We couldnt turn it off though the switch was off. These guys stopped by and took a look at the issue. They were very quick and kept updating us on wats going on. I would definitely recommend these guys (Brandon) to my friends and family. Thank you guys.

We recently purchased a home and had an assortment of work we wanted done before we moved in.  New center lights in 4 bedrooms, chandeliers replaced, living room recessed lighting, installing new bathroom fans, wiring for a home theater projector, and a few additional items.  We had two companies bid the project and they each tried to sell us work we didn't need, didn't bid everything we asked, didn't follow-up, or the pricing didn't feel right.  Compare that to Bel-Red who gave us immediate pricing that felt reasonable, and started work the same day.  They have been prompt, professional, and easy to work with (Ryan has been awesome) and pulled in guys to the job to get it done in a timely manner to coordinate with our painter who was already well underway in the house.  We'll definitely be calling them again for any electrical needs in the future.

We bought a backup generator and needed the transfer switch hooked up and the receptical. I easily set up an appointment a week out for an electrician to come and do the job. I received a call 30 min before Matt (the electrician) showed up. He came and we went through everything, gave an estimate with the permits, and did an amazing job setting everything up! Not only that, but he spent time simulating a power outage and showing me the safe and correct way to run the backup generator. We are so confident knowing that it is all set up the right way and by code. He was full of great information as well! He also made some great observations in the house as he went along and made suggestions.

Just a fantastic job and we will be hiring them from now on for any electrical work.

I have used Bel-Red for years.  I've owned two complex properties, both of which required a great deal of electrical upgrades and on-going maintenance.  I have found their people to be incredibly well trained and very polite.  They always give me options and never seem to blink when I throw them 'goofy' requests.  Bel-Red provides amazing service- always confirming appointments in advance and calling ahead to inform me who is coming over and when they will arrive.  I consider them to be one of my most trusted home improvement vendors.   It's always a pleasure working with them.

We had a ton of updates to do... dimmers, ceiling fan installation, indoor and outdoor lighting, etc.  It was all done promptly, efficiently, and quickly!  We were super impressed.

Matt, the electrician, was great.  Super helpful and willing to explain everything to me, and I felt really comfortable that no one was trying to swindle us or anything, as I've experienced in the past with other electricians in other cities.

Good service and the technician was very friendly and helpful.  However, the estimating process is a joke.  The technician is required to use a worksheet with a bunch of check boxes.  I was shocked at the price, but was in a hurry to get project done, so I went with it.  In retrospect, I should have shopped around.  Bel-Red Electric is way overpriced.  They did good work, but even the city inspector laughed when I told him how much I had to pay!

Competent, timely and clean, but very, very expensive.  Example, over $500 to replace 4 switches.

I needed to install a couple GFI outlets and have some minor diagnostics/repairs done. Bel-Red scheduled an appointment that met my needs, showed up on time, evaluated my service requests and gave me a price, performed the services, cleaned up afterward, and finished pretty much exactly when they said they would. The repairman was knowledgeable, efficient, and pretty honest/direct in answering my questions. He had everything that he needed on a big truck parked outside. I would use them again. There is something that I should point out. For most common work items, Bel-Red has a flat rate. For example, to install a GFCI circuit outside was in the ballpark of $300+, which includes labor and parts. I didn't ask them to do a more granular costing breakdown; like, charge me for the parts and precise hourly rate that it takes you to do the job. If you're asking Bel-Red to do more complex services beyond the average stuff, you'll want to evaluate the flat-rate versus hourly+cost of materials. Another thing: Bel-Red offers a 10% discount for MS Prime card, in case you have one; so make sure that you mention it.
