So the pilot light went out on my hot water heater.
It's happened before and I was able to start it after trying a number of times.
This time I could see that there was no flash to light the burner.
Otherwise, the tank looks great and had no other problems that I know about.
I knew that this water heater could be repaired, which is why I had problems finding a plumber to fix it.
I have learned that many plumbing contractors really don't want to repair your water heater even though they advertise that they do.
I had several plumbers out to see the water heater and both told me, without even touching the water heater, that
a.   the unit was over 8 years old; and
b.   it could not be repairs; or
b.   the gas valve was broken and repairs would be between $ 500 and $ 600.
Also, I thought the unit was younger, but I never looked it up as I believed what I was told.
Bottom line, I believe many plumbers really don't want to do small jobs but would rather sell you a new unit.
Then, I call InSink Plumbers out of Carol Stream, Illinois,
owned by Sr. and Junior, the son, who came to my house.
Here's what he told me:
a.    Yes I like to make repairs to water heaters.
b.    No your hot water heater is under six years old.
c.    Yes the warranty for parts expires in November of 2018.
d.    No the gas valve is not broken.
e.    Yes the water heater looks good and could/should last for several more years; and
f.     No you don't need a new water heater because I can repair it right now.
30 minutes later he gets it started and charged me 1/4 to 1/5 the cost of a new unit.
InSink, remember that name.  Old school honest plumbers.

Simon Plumbing came to my mother's rescue when her hot water tank failed. I was super lucky to have enjoyed same day service. The plumber was top notch, I couldn't have received better service period.

We had an emergency service call the day after Thanksgiving and Adam came out after three other prior service calls late at night.  He was very personable and helpful, answering all our questions and educating us at the same time.  Our immediate issue is resolved but if we need further guidance, we will reach out to him again.

These guys are so great! We've had them do work twice at our home. They took all of the necessary precautions due to COVID. They are timely, reliable, and get the job done well. Couldn't ask for more!

As a property manager I am always in need of a good plumber, along with other trades. Central Plumbing Co was a pleasure to work with from the beginning. They were on time for the initial appointment to provide a quote and on time for the repairs. Prompt paperwork, repairs, and documentation. Their work quality was great and the employees took time to layout cardboard, drop clothes, and were thoughtful of the property. When I'm in need of a plumber in the future I will be using Central Plumbing Company.

Scheduling was not fun. I had to be rescheduled without explanation the first time. The second time, they came five hours earlier than their service window. I work from home so I was around to let them in, but it was disruptive to my work and I had to reschedule meetings. Some people think their schedule is more important than other people's and that's not cool.

Service, once it happened, was quick and friendly and got the job done. Price was good too - no complaints there. However, it was awkward that they didn't have a way to take a credit card other than just writing down your credit card details and hope none of your information gets stolen.

Four weeks after a great install of two sump pumps, I was happy to call them after finding significant water in my basement. He said he'd make it that day and call. No call. Much later, I called back and he said he'd get back to me. No call. The next day, he said he'd be there in three days. It's now three days and no call.....with water in my basement. I DO NOT RECOMMEND.

I can't believe I never thought to leave a review before! Southtown Plumbing is the best! If you need a plumber, call them! Work is done quickly and professionally. I've used them, and so has my neighbor. Very trustworthy.

I am very thankful and grateful to Vilano plumbing, we had a situation where another contractor started the work and could not pass the city inspection, Vilano was highly recommended to me by a friend, so he came out and explained what was wrong, very knowledgeable, better than the inspector, he had to redo almost entire job but we passed inspection on the first time the inspector came back.

My family has a couple of old brick buildings , we been doing business with South Chicago  Plumbing , since 1976. Great knowledge, very friendly, and most of all a great inventory of parts and supply for older buildings . They have the parts and supply that you cannot find any where around Chicago.  They recommend other shops if they don't have the parts. Now that's true business !!!

Kennedy has helped me out in many situations. All of their people are knowledgeable, thorough, polite and professional. After they leave, I always have that comfortable feeling that the job was done correctly.

Have used Welter Plumbing more than once.  Always on time, and professional.  Brian takes the time to answer questions and explain things.  Today they fixed a job that was botched by a different plumbing company.  Live and learn.

I have used Glenbrook Plumbing over many years. Recently had them to correct leak under kitchen sink and rework plumbing for dishwasher. Did great job. Definitely recommend.

We hired Thiesse to remedy a problem in our basement that was being caused by the city sewers backing up during heavy storms. They recommended installing an ejector pit, into which all the basement piping (floor drain, laundry tub, etc.) would be plumbed. This in turn would eliminate the open drains that the city sewer was backing up into.

After they did the work, we noticed backups in the main stack & immediately notified the company of the problem. They came out again & spent a couple hours rodding the sewer line immediately outside the area they'd worked on days earlier, then told us they couldn't find anything wrong but we should break open the main sewer outside the house, as it was likely blocked or collapsed. (Huh?) We declined this, since we had never had a problem with it prior to the work they did in the basement. We paid almost $500 for this rodding & diagnosis, by the way - this was in addition to the money we paid to have the ejector pit installed.

About a week later, I went into the basement & noticed another backup around the floor drain & water again leaking out of the joints in the main stack a few feet above the floor. This led me to believe the blockage was inside the house. My wife called Thiesse & asked they come out yet again to fix the problem.

When they arrived, they brought their sewer foreman with them - someone who had never seen the house or the work previously done. He proceeded to try to rod the line inside the house, but kept hitting an obstruction beneath the floor. He broke the floor open (this after we had already had it patched after their previous efforts) & determined the plumbers who'd installed the ejector pit had inadvertently filled the main line leading outside with hydraulic cement. His words were looks like we caused the problem.

They returned the next day & removed the clogged pipe, breaking out even more of the concrete floor in the process. Sewage finally flowed again, but Thiesse had the audacity to send us another bill for fixing the problem they had created! We told them in no uncertain terms we would not be paying the bill & they became very hostile, claiming WE had somehow caused the problem.

Our experience was among the worst I've ever had with a company & I would never, under any circumstances, recommend them. Buyer beware.

worst service I have ever experienced.  I would not recommend this company to anyone looking for quality service.

We recently hired him for a small shower renovation. We paid him $4k and he never finished the job. We had 3 separate plumbers check his work and All of them said it was incorrect. We ended up paying someone else to finish the job correctly. He ghosted us and never responded to us after he took our money. HORRIBLE! Please Do Not Hire Him!!!
