I needed my shower drain re-attached in my main shower and have a very small crawl space.  When Clayton showed up (right on time), I felt bad for asking him to go down there.  He was able to fix the drain without going into the crawl space.  However, I had asked that my dryer vent be looked at and, since I had some time left on my 'hour', down Clayton went to check it out.  He discovered the problem and even though he couldn't fix it, he made a recommendation to call a heating and cooling specialist or handy man to come and actually vent my dryer to the outside instead of into my crawl space.  I will definitely use this company again.  I love finding a reliable company with a professional service team who are willing to take on the 'small' jobs.  The only thing I would have liked would have been for him to wear covers over his boots as I'm a 'shoes off' house.

I can not recommend this business enough. They installed an outdoor sink and associated piping, fixed a toilet, capped a pipe, and cleaned out some miscellaneous pipes that they saw had corroded. They were extremely reasonably priced, easy to work with, and provide a quality service. Thank you!!!

Terry at Crouchley Plumbing was nice (until I asked why he charged so much for labor, more on that below), and the install of a Rheem 50 gallon water heater was fast and professional.

So why the low rating? Two main factors: their front desk lady is rude, terrible to deal with, and stuck in the 90s: they send Word doc bids, only take credit card numbers over the phone that you have to hope they are shredding after they use them.

I could get over all that, but they also charged me an exorbitant amount for labor. The bid combined parts and labor, so I have to guess a bit, but even factoring retails price for the hardware, the labor was well over $662.

The team of 2 were at my house for well under 2 hours, so that works out to over $160/hour/person. When I inquired about it, they responded by saying their standard rate is $180/hour and, I should charge you ... higher than the estimate.

I paid the bill, but I cannot recommend them.

I was lucky enough that an open time came up right before I called as another company failed me.
Tracey came out and was very personable. He knows his stuff and was quickly able to track down the leak that was dropping from my ceiling.
He was able to give us a temporary fix while we waited for a part.
On his return, he was just as good.
Hopefully I have no reason to call a plumber again, but if I do, I'll call Crouchley.

Love it!

Not only was Tracy the Plumber willing to go over early, unescorted and unsupervised ... He was gracious enough to compliment me on the awesome snake job I did the night before by not charging anything but a service call fee(52bucks). I thought I didn't get the clog but he checked everything up and downstairs in my crawl space for leaks and all is well. In and out in less than a hour.  Great price for a piece of mind!
Thanks Tracy

Im having the work done by Crouchley right now. This guy is so nice and honest. Best thing is he was really realistic and transparent in his estimate telling me the fee is $110 an hour and he expects 2-3 hours or less. I had another 24/7 big company tell me it would be $750-1000 at least. Scam! I knew the job would not be terribly lengthy. Thanks to two of my friends for telling us about Crouchley!

Right now things feel rather chaotic in American society. You know what makes this experience even worse? A broken toilet!
Well.. One thing that takes that edge off is quality work and excellent customer service.  I can't thank Crouchly Plumbing enough.  They are professional, clean, hard working, reasonably priced, and local. Thanks for helping me to fix my broken toilet!

Crouchley has saved the day! I had another plumbing company out to fix a leaky bathtub faucet, it took 2 hours and $150 for them to leave my tub worse off than they found it, with standing muddy water that would not drain. After some tears and call to Crouchley my bathroom was restored to functioning condition in less than 35 minutes. I have had them back twice since for other work and they have always been great. Always on time and skilled in their trade! Go Crouchley!

I've had Crouchley complete two jobs at my condo.  The first time was a mini-emergency the day before Thanksgiving.  Kitchen, bathtub, and lavatory drain line were completely plugged.  Not only was Crouchley able to come over within a couple of hours they also cleared the line using a variety of plumbing snakes.  They also recently fixed a faucet and another drain line so that both operate properly.  Their costs were quite reasonable.  I would recommend Crouchley Plumbing for all jobs requiring a professional plumber.

I just finished a complete water system install with Crouchley by sitting on the front stoop and chatting with Tracey as he laced up his boots! I'm so pleased. It started when I heard a water leak back in late November, six months ago, when there was snow on the ground. By way of recommendation, I called Crouchley and before I could clear the crawl space, Clayton was in my driveway. He crawled, he dug, he found the leak in the rusted pipe, he repaired it and then followed up with an estimate for a proper upgrade. Clayton replanted the plants in my flower beds which makes him a total winner! Six months later, Tracey came with a highly capable, husband/wife drilling team, new pipe and complete explanations of what was to happen next and why. As the job is wrapping up, he found an old, problematic bathtub pipe and a leaking kitchen/laundry pipe in my crawlspace surely saving me from future disaster. Not sure if it gets any better!

We had a terrible time with the contractor we hired last summer for a bathroom remodel. I called Crouchley to fix the toilet that was rocking and they were great! Not only did the price come in lower than the estimate, but Roger was friendly, efficient, and very knowledgeable. I would give more stars if I could. We will definitely be back if I have any more plumbing needs!

Great job!  At first they couldn't do my job for 6 days, but they called back and fit me in the next day.  The job ended up involving a bit more work than I was anticipating, but it still ended up being done quickly and was affordable...in fact, another company I called quoted me $125 more based on what I told them over the phone (which involved less work).

Crouchley plumbing was able to get to me the next day. They gave me a 2 hour window and they called 1st and beat the earliest time. they did excellent work, recommended additional work under the sink that would save me money and a call down the road.  Everyone I dealt with was polite, pleasant, and respectful, and their prices were reasonable. I would call them again if needed and have no problems recommending them to anyone,

I am so impressed with the professional service and attention to detail that Tracey provided in our bathroom addition. He worked the time he came out to fit into our schedules, was organized, properly prepared to complete each task and left the area nice and clean. The bill was very detailed and I appreciated all the help and advise he provided. We needed some electrical help and he reccomended some one that helped us out and also completed the work on time and to our satisfaction. Tracey was very helpful when we had to make some design changes, Tracey saved the day. I would reccomended them and if you want an honest opinion, honest real work performed by one of the nicest fellas you have ever met, please call and ask for Tracey. If you are on the fence and trying to plan your project, I want you to know that this was the perfect choice for us!

as a homeowner, i've dealt with my share of flaky contractors, sloppy services, etc, and was so, so SO very pleasantly surprised to find this old-school operation a perfectly smooth, efficient machine.

the guy turned up on time, he fixed the problem quickly, gave me some advice on preventing it in the future, and was off.
a past plumber never even really solved the problem and charged just as much.  had i been available, i could have even had a same-day appointment, which is awesome, as anyone who's had a plumbing nightmare will appreciate.

oh and my work order?  it was TYPE-WRITTEN!  yes that's right, as in, on a typewriter.  and with carbon copies.

I've had just one experience with them, but I was left super impressed. When my water heater died unexpectedly, I figured it would be a day or two until it could be replaced, or cost an arm and a leg for rush service. Not so. Within 2 hours of my husband calling Crouchley, a plumber was at our house, giving us a bid to replace it. By the afternoon, I had a new water heater, properly installed, including some improvements over the previous installation (earthquake strap, extended overflow valve, etc). Hooray for hot water!

The strangest thing happened with this plumber. When I first called them, I was impressed that the woman who answered the phone was efficient, understood immediately what I needed (someone to come out and give me an estimate) and we booked it. The day of the estimate, two gentlemen showed up, both with t shirts with the company name on it which always impresses me, and were friendly and helpful. They came up with unique ways to solve my unusual plumbing needs for a remodel with lots of exposed plumbing. We talked about fixtures, colors of angle stops, and many unusual conditions. We all got along great and I felt that I found a great plumber. The owner told me I didn't need a new rough-in valve because the one exposed looked fine and he pointed out that they do not oversell. I appreciated that. They even had a guy available that day for my first phase. I booked that for the next day due to my schedule. The plumber showed up promptly and did a good job. Before he came though, since I hadn't gotten a written estimate, I just called the office to find out what their costs would be, what their markup was on materials, and to confirm the appointment. For some reason, though I had asked for a call first (given a two hour window) since I don't live at the house, this information was not conveyed to the scheduler. No problem; it was corrected, and I got the call.

Now for the strange part. When I got home and read my email at the end of the day, I got an email from the owner declining the bid by saying we don't feel we can meet your needs. I was already their customer!! The job went swimmingly. And, they had come up with all kinds of unique solutions to my needs! Shocked, I called the office and spoke to Joanne. When I mentioned this to her, she said that when people inquire about their markup and ask such questions, it leads to problems. What? That sounds very unprofessional to me. She also said it could happen that the plumber that was going to arrive, may not have the same ideas about what should be done that the owner came up with and explained to me. What? The owner was very confident about his solutions and took detailed notes.

I thought I found a great plumber. Not only did it shock me that they turned down an existing customer's business but that they could afford to turn away a whole day's work in the future!

I am a founding partner of Papa Haydn restaurants in Portland.
We've used Sam Miller and his loyal crew for nearly thirty years.
As someone who has hired and employed thousands of people over the years, I'd say that the best indicator of a company's integrity is the length of time that key employees remain.
Sam and his guys are prompt, exceedingly professional, and honest. There's simply no better plumbing company in this city.

We had a fantastic experience with Tracey & Joel! We moved to Sherwood and decided to call them down for a 2nd opinion after another big, 24/7 company tried to tell us we had to replace the water service for $3600. They searched more thoroughly for the leak and made repairs quickly, explaining what they were doing along the way.

They're honest, professional and worked within our budget; offering suggestions to help us monitor future leaks and quoted preventative replacement of the water service at about $800 less than the other guys.

Today I called because my faucet was dripping in my shower. This is my second time using them and both times I have had outstanding service. I live it to far from the office and they were able to get someone out today between jobs. I was so happy not to have to wait until Friday. Roger was my plumber and he was nice, funny and professional. Gave me the tip to turn off my water before I try a plumbing DIY. I am glad to know I have a great company in my neighborhood who will take that extra mile. Thank you and I highly recommend.

The woman that generally runs the desk when you walk in off lombard is as surly as any person we have had the displeasure to attempt to do business with. We attempted to have them come out and give us an estimate but were met with such a poor attitude at the desk that we elected not to use them at all.

Great job on an old bungalow in Saint John Portland.  I have had them come out twice.  On both occasion they showed up on time and did the work in a quick and timely manor. Both plumbers had been with the co for over 20 years and really knew their stuff. This was really  important to me since the house we are updating is 100 years old and has a combination of new and old. Both plumbers gave me good information about the old plumbing and how to tackle the jobs to come.. Very experienced and the price was fair.

Called these guys for a toilet issue where it was leaking from the base. The plumber they sent found that the gasket wasn't level with the floor, and he quickly installed a seal and reinstalled the toilet in a little over and hour. Very friendly service, and I appreciate that everything was explained to me, and that they gave me a one year warranty on the service. I'd definitely recommend them.

We received a bid from Crouchley during our home inspection process for some repairs. We got a few other bids after we bought the house. Not only was Crouchley's competitive, they were by far the most friendly and most communicative company we worked with. Terry was on time, friendly, and clearly explained the work he was doing and the extra work he proposed once he got going. I would not hesitate to recommend Crouchley or to use them again.

We hired Crouchley Plumbing to move our washer and dryer plumbing a couple feet from where it was and to plumb in a sink next to it. We were planning to install the sink and cabinet ourselves after the plumbing work was completed because we had other finishing work we wanted to do in the room.

Prior to signing the work order we had a conversation with the plumber in their office about inspection of the work. They said that they'd have an inspector come to review their work (something that they would handle) but that we'd also need to have an inspector come out once the sink was installed.

When it came time to do the work, the two plumbers who came were a bit sloppy with their work and accidentally got glue on the front of our new washing machine and damaged it. They opted not to tell us it happened and it was something we discovered once they had left. They also never followed through on pulling a permit and having the work inspected. We were left unsettled and disappointed with their work.

Since they didn't get it inspected, we decided to pull a permit ourselves and had it inspected and found out that the work they completed wasn't up to code.

We spent a pretty penny to have them do this work and it was a waste. We would not recommend Crouchley Plumbing to anyone looking for an honest, dependable plumber.

We've had an opportunity to use Crouchley twice -- one to install an water heater, the second to run a water line to a new refridgerator. Both times the company scheduled a convenient time in a timely manner and or plumber was courteous, professional, and efficient. The fee in both cases was reasonable and fair. I recommend them unreservedly.

I had just bought a condo and needed some work done before moving in. A friend recommended Crouchley Plumbing, and that was good enough for me!

They were great about getting me an estimate for what I wanted done. They were great at working with me to schedule their work around my schedule. And they were great about coming in, doing the work, and cleaning up afterward. Special thanks to Tracey for listening to what I wanted done and helping me figure out the right solutions; and special thanks to Clayton for the excellent work and explaining it to me really well.

Great work + fair price = the only plumbing company I'm ever going to need!  I strongly recommend them without reservation.

I'm sorry to give this place two stars because the plumber and estimator were great. However the lady that works in the office is a condescending B;$*#. Be prepared to know the ins and outs of the city inspection process even if you've never done this before otherwise she'll talk to you like you're an idiot rather than reasonably help you through the process.

I've had them out twice and both times they saved me money by being so fast. They are real experts! Once the problem was a leaking pipe in the wall behind my kitchen sink. The plumber was able to fix it so quickly that it came in under their quote. That's honesty! The other time was for a leaking outdoor faucet and they came out right away to fix it. It's worked perfectly ever since. I just had them come out for a repair in my basement/crawlspace and the plumber fixed it so beautifully and so rapidly. They really are the best! A special shoutout to Clayton, he's my hero.

Had Best Buy fail to figure out how to install a washer and dryer because the furnace condensation tube and the washer drain hose were sharing the same drain and the folks who installed my furnace decided to use a larger, than, needed rigid PVC pipe that was crowding the drain. I called Crouchley first, they were excellent on the phone and said that my problem was relatively simple, but they weren't available for about three weeks. I said I'd call around and call back if everyone was booked, since they are local and were helpful on the phone. Called around, and most people were booked out further - except for one company that said to fix my issue I'd need to tear out my wall to the tune of about $650 (without drywall repair). They could come out the next day, unsurprisingly.

Called back Crouchley and booked them for a few weeks out. They said they'd call if anything opened up beforehand, and I was surprised when they called today and said they could pop over really quick because there was a break in the schedule.

Tracey came out to my place and was professional as can be. He had a look at the situation, walked through scenarios and even hinted that I could just do the work myself if I wanted, which I appreciated. He knocked the job out in about 15 minutes and charged a very reasonable parts / labor rate. Sure, it wasn't cheap for the time it took him - but a relatively simple job for him would've taken me all weekend to research, gather parts for and install. He treated the job with respect, and I even appreciated little things like how many times he wiped his feet before coming in and out of the house. Everyone at Crouchley treated me like I was paying them to remodel my house for tens of thousands of dollars, and they're my go-to plumbers now.

It's a shame that there are a few negative reviews on here that are dragging their rating down. Aside from a few legitimate concerns people have raised in the reviews (things happen), most of the negativity either seems to be centered around the fact that they're booked solid for weeks or that they felt they were talked down to. Not my experience in the slightest, everyone at Crouchley treated me with respect (even though I'm clueless about plumbing) and they're clearly professionals. As for being booked: that's Portland for you, and it's certainly not their fault. If they're in demand, maybe that should be an indicator that they're worth it! Don't let a few negative reviews turn you off from using these folks.

I recently had a badly leaking main service line.  I called a number of other plumbers trying to get a quote or a ball park estimate.  One Tired to sell me on a camera inspection for $90/hr for upto 8 hours.  Another wanted $100 just ot come look and quote.

Sam came out 2 hours after I called, helped me to make sure it really was a leaking main, and then gave me a fairly reasonable quote.  He used a sub-contractor to hydraulically push the new pipe into my basement.   This is important since they did not have to dig up my yard and it took less than a day.  This mean less money for him, but he put my concerns first.

He also discussed with me a number of other projects, of which I had a few other things taken care of.  His staff were really good, and very patient with my daughter who wanted to see what was going on.

All in all, I am very satisfied and have already referred Crouchley Plumbing to a friend.

I had to use them for plumbing recently  (a busted frozen pipe) and even though probably everyone and their mother also had emergencies they came right out, and even had a good attitude!  They didn't rip me off and did a great job.  I wish more service companies were like them.

When my shower drain clogged up I tried fixing it myself and gave up shortly after. Roger from Crouchley's came over and in no time at all had my shower draining. I have nothing but good things to say about Crouchley Plumbing.  When the plumber I used for years that was located on MLK retired I went looking for another plumber.  I tried another plumber located in NOPO twice with terrible results.  I then tried Crouchley.  No problems with Crouchley.  They showed up when they said they would.  Their prices were fair and they didn't mark up materials 10 times what one of the big box stores charge.  They even left things cleaner than before they started.

I had a really pleasant experience with Crouchley plumbing. Right from the start their plumber Roger was easy to work work with. He was professional, focused, and did high-quality work.  I knew the piping under my sink was broken and needed replacement so I asked Roger to take care of that as well.  He not only replaced the piping  (double stop, p-trap, isolator) but he also re-caulked the sink where the caulking had failed and installed a new aerator on my faucet. All work fell within their $350 - $450 quote.  I couldn't have asked for a better experience.

We called Crouchley Plumbing after our scheduled plumber cancelled on us at the last minute. We were having new countertops installed in our 1923 house, so the original plumbing needed to be removed and upgraded. We had our faucet removed from the backsplash and rerouted to a modern faucet at the sink. We also needed all of our old galvanized pipes from the kitchen down to the basement replaced with new PVC pipes. Clayton showed up on time and assessed the situation quickly and began to work. Our old pipes were very challenging to access, and Clayton handled our home as he would have his own. He figured out the best way to access with minimal damage and successfully replaced all of our old galvanized pipes.
After our countertops were installed, Clayton returned to install the faucet, dishwasher and garbage disposal. He was quick, honest, and communicative about what he was doing. Our plumbing is now upgraded and ready to go and looks amazing.
The very best part of our experience with Crouchley Plumbing and Clayton aside from the quality work, is the price! All of this very difficult work on our very old house for better than expected rates. I will most definitely be calling Crouchley for all of my future plumbing needs.

My toiled was running.  I knew enough to disconnect the water. Luckily I have another bathroom because I called no less than 15 plumbers to come out. Some didn't even respond, some said they could be out in 2 to 3 weeks, and some we're charging so much that I couldn't even consider it.  $150-180.  But then I called Crouchley. $110 an hour and they had someone out that day!  I had already ordered the parts for my relic of a toilet. They came and installed. Quick and easy. The only thing to consider is they start the clock as soon as they leave the shop, so if you live farther out that could be a problem. I will definitely use again!

Their work (from assessment, quote, through to the actual plumbing and inspection) was incredibly thorough and they made sure to followup on all the questions or requests I had. They were knowledgeable, communicative, personable, extremely fair, and reliable. If you want a high quality job, done by high quality humans you can trust, I recommend Crouchley. They will be my go-to should I ever come across other plumbing needs.

Called Crouchley based on NextDoor and Yelp reviews when another company quoted a high number for installing a new toilet.  Terry in the office was great and had me scheduled right away.  Tracey was very friendly and explained everything he did.  He installed the toilet fast and even had to go under the house to install 2x4's because the floor was rotted.  He left the room cleaner than when he arrived.  Great family owned local St John's company, will certainly use them for any future plumbing needs.  Highly recommended.

These guys are great! Very professional and always willing to go above and beyond. Their prices are very reasonable, they clean up very well after they've finished their job and scheduling is really easy. Crouchley Plumbing is our 1st and foremost go to plumber!

These guys are supposed to be our local neighborhood plumbing company but they are ALWAYS booked, way out, making it virtually impossible for folks to schedule.

This is plumbing. A good majority of calls are going to when there's a problem that can't be ignored.

I searched and searched for a plumber to come to our house within 24 hrs. We had to shut our water off to our house do to a kitchen floor disaster. Finally Crouchley Plumbing answered my call and could come out the following day. Great service! They fixed our problem and we have water to our house again. Highly recommend! They've been in business for decades!

The plumber did not disclose a rate (pretty high) or estimate prior to starting work, charged me for his travel time, and generally wasn't great to have around. Plumbing work seems ok.

So far so good.. They just installed a new water heater for us. The whole process was smooth with no surprises. I had them come out and give us a quote a couple of weeks ago. They quoted it they way I asked (base plus a couple of options I was interested in). They showed up on time both for the quote and for the actual install. They were very friendly and explained everything thoroughly.. I will absolutely use them again.

Had a positive experience with Crouchley. They sent a technician out the next day who rebuilt my shower fixture from parts on hand. It was done in 45 minutes. He was professional and courteous. I saved a lot of money by doing a rebuild, some other plumbers told me it was an old antiquated unit and that it needed to be replaced. Would use again.

Another plumbing outfit gave me an estimate of $930 for what seemed like a straightforward repair to me- kitchen sink drain pipe leaking behind cabinet panel. It struck me as exorbitant and I declined it and had to pay $145 for their inflated estimate. I decided to hold out  a couple extra days for Crouchley. Their final price with parts- $350. They've done work for me before and are prompt, competent, and  fairly priced.

Once again Terry, Tracy and Joanne of Crouchley Plumbing have outdone themselves.  Full bathroom remodel, which included moving the toilet and shower (no small feat) but it was handled with skill, professionalism, expedience and a reasonable cost considering the extent and detail of the project.  Just can't ask for more from any company, and am so fortunate to have found them. Highly recommend them, and would give more than 5 stars if I could.  Wouldn't even consider using anyone else!

These guys are Pro's so glad to have reliable quick and friendly service.   I had a dripping face for 6 months after having several attempts to change a washer There was an internal mechanism that needed to be fixed I had been prepared to buy a whole new faucet , but was told that was not needed.   I wish all series were so honest.

I had a leaky hose bib and called three companies.  Crouchley came out and fixed the issue in 15 minutes!  Others had proposed a major project costing upwards of $750!  Trust Crouchley, they did an outstanding job and are good, honest people!

Highly recommend!
