HISTORY

Established in 2011.
Lance Smith, the owner of L.D. Smith Plumbing, began his business out of his garage in 2011 and hired his first employee within three months. It didn't take long for Lance to gain the trust of customers in the Indianapolis area. The rapid growth forced Lance out of his small garage six months after opening his business. By 2012, L.D. Smith Plumbing moved to our first official shop located near 71st Street and Binford Boulevard in Indianapolis. Offices are now located in a larger space near downtown Indianapolis. Despite our business growth, we remain committed to keeping our business local by supporting community projects and events and keeping an open-door policy for customers.

ABOUT BUSINESS OWNER

I love helping customers resolve difficult and challenging plumbing issues. I feel I excel at identifying what each homeowner's specific needs are and being honest and very direct with them if I can or cannot help them. Regarding plumbing itself, I just enjoy it...period. No day is the same, and I feel I am challenged constantly. I am very grateful and blessed that I go to work every day having a job that I love.

I am proud to say we have been customers of LD smith since 2012, when Lance was the only plumber in town willing to fix our broken sewer line after another plumber botched the job and made it worse.

Since then, they have done work on my salon and two more houses we moved into. Each and every time they have gone above and beyond in courtesy, punctuality, cleanliness, quality and trustworthiness. It is rare that I have been able to say that with other contractors and companies with which we have done business.

Today, Phil and Joe came to replace a cracked drain pipe from a second floor bathroom that was leaking in the basement. They pinpointed where the leak was, found it in the wall and managed to cut a modest, perfect square in the wall to remove the broken drain, which will make it a sinch for me to fix since they saved the drywall and I can put it right back in.

When they got here, they found evidence of another leak as the pipe travels across the basement to a main drain, so they replaced the whole section for us for only an additional $200! With the entire section of old cast iron replaced with PVC, it looks so much better and fits better along the ceiling than the previous pipe that was hanging down and in our way. Everything was clean and put back together when they left.

They have saved us more than once and it has been a pleasure giving them our business. If we ever stop moving into these old houses we may never need them again, but if we do Im super glad they are there.

L.D. Smith plumbing helped us in our crawl space with a leak and installing a new sump pump with backup and alarm. The team was great and gave us options informing us of the benefits of each option. They did an excellent job and were extremely professional and kind. I highly recommend the team for any plumbing needs and will definitely use them again myself.

I had a great experience with Kevin - communication, and problem resolution both exceeded my expectation. Not only was he able to remedy the issue I had but also fix another issue while he was at my property.

Would definitely use them again. Thanks for your thorough explanation Kevin!

Tim Garza and Trevor were exceptional!  They were professional, caring, and very aware of the our concern for the damage being done to our garden.  This combined with the wonderful experience we had last month with Kevin Hagensieker of LD Smith, we have found a new plumber!!   LD Smith Plumbing.  I will recommend them to every one of my neighbors.

Do not use this company.  I have a tub shower combo that will not turn from tub function to shower function with clear transition.  I have had this company come out three times still doesn't work and they advised it was done the best it could be and could never be done completely because of the age.  They were sent by my home warranty company and now I have a leak behind my wall from their botched repair job (not covered) and had to hire a major company and pay out the nose to get it done right.  I tell everyone I know about the three repairs gone wrong.

We have had LD Smith out twice in the past week. First we had a gas leak. Mark found it was on the stove. Mark attempted to repair it, but ultimately It was unable to be repaired, even by the GE technician, the oven was a total loss. Mark made our home safe and got the gas shut off.  Today we had Phil out for an emergency sump pump. We just re-worked our entire sump system outside, and when the drainage specialists were here they discovered the battery back up pump was failing. With potential rain this weekend we were concerned a power outage we could lose the entire basement, so Phil came out this weekend and installed the new pump and gave advice for the future on how to upgrade the second back up pump.

Superior service and friendly staff!! Definitely give them an A+++ rating.  I had just purchased my home and ran into unexpected sewer problems.  They resolved my plumbing blockage immediately and did so in an extremely timely fashion. Affordable financing options as well. Reliable, capable, and quality service. I won't look for service anywhere else and will be recommending them to all family and friends. Thank you LD Smith Plumbing!!

DO NOT RECOMMEND. We have had two appts with this company over the last couple of weeks and $368 later have nothing other than a 3ft x 1 ft hole that shows two pipes have disconnected. It was $219 to dig the hole and another $149 dollars to run a camera through to see the issue. Come to find out, the camera showed no picture and we got literally nothing from our $149. AFTER THAT, we get an estimate to redo the entire sump pump drainage line which will run us about $2197. No thanks. The only good thing I will say is that the guy who came out, John, was very nice. Not his quotes I'm sure. He was nice, but there is no way we have gotten our moneys worth at this point. I could have dug the pipe up for free and stuck a hose down the 6 ft pipe and call it a day.......Very disappointed and will not be moving forward with any additional service

I wish I could give zero stars as I got zero service.  My warrant company contracted with LD Smith plumbing and this is who was assigned to my claim.  I put in a claim for a leaking faucet on April 19th.  When they called, they could not come out until this week.  So, I patiently scheduled for Friday, May 3rd between 12pm and 2pm.  They had not come out or called so we called them to learn that they cancelled our appointment.  They claim to have tried to call me at 10am and I did not answer. I have no missed calls or voicemails at all from this morning.  When I spoke to them, they said they were not coming because we did not answer and the tech was trying to come out early.  They also told the warranty company when they called that they don't leave messages.  Seriously???? We had an appointment from 12pm-2pm, so whether I was available at 10am is irrelevant, but I do not have any missed calls from them.  Their only response is to reschedule me for next week sometime.  Of course the manager was not available, either. She was conveniently out to lunch..... This is incredibly unprofessional and horrible service.  I would not even recommend this company to someone you don't like.  Avoid at all costs.

Had JD Smith install a water heater 11/2016. Found that it was damaged prior to installation but they installed it anyway and didn't bother to inform me about it. I wrote to them concerning the damage and here is their reply:

Thank you for reaching out to us in regards to your water heater installation.  I have reviewed your picture and your invoice history as well.  Water heater installation can be quite an adventure.  Getting them loaded and unloaded on our vehicles, dragging them upstairs or holding on for dear life as we go downstairs.  Squeezing them around corners in homes and into tight little closets all without damaging the door trims, carpet or walls.  On many occasions the water heater jackets get scratched or dented in the process.  Sometimes they even come out of the box with a dent or imperfection on the jacket.  In almost all cases the issue is purely cosmetic and does not affect the performance of the water heater or the warranty.  The jacket of the water heater performs the task of holding insulation in place and providing a bit of clothing on what would otherwise be an ugly black steel tank.

Our technician should have brought this to your attention and explained what I have explained above.  For that I apologize.  However, I can assure you that in no way is your water heater compromised nor will it's warranty or performance be lessened in anyway.  Once again, thank you for contacting us and for your business.

Sincerely,

Terry Illy

Seems it's just too bad if you end up with damaged goods and customers just have accept that fact. If I had them deliver a new TV or stove with damage, would that be acceptable? Why is this any different?
The assistant manager cavalierly dismissed my claim, so I'll let you decide if you want to have them do your plumbing work.

Shawn at L.D Smith is a consummate professional and a master of his craft.  I request him to do all of my work.  We had a pressure issue once, another plumber wanted to charge thousands of dollars to break into the foundation of our house investigating a possible crack.  Shawn took all of 5 minutes to determine a spicket in the yard was slowly trickling through a hose and messing with the pressure.  Saved money, fixed the problem, and I have relied on L.D. ever since and they have handled every problem quickly, easily and without fail.  This afternoon they are installing a water softener after I had them fix the piping to prep for another company to install one for cheaper.  Welp that company was unreliable.  L.D. may not be the cheapest, but they're worth every penny.

I had the line to my sewer replaced as well as an exterior clean out installed since my home lacked this.  It was a big job requiring two holes in my yard and access through my basement floor.  The team kept me informed about their progress and plans throughout the project.  They also did a great job of containing the mess while working and cleaning up once the project was finished.  I am very satisfied.

L. D. Smith installed a tanKless water system. Their quote was the best, timely and they spent the time thoroughly evaluating our needs.  T.J. did a wonderful job walking us through the pros and cons of the system.  Further, he found two different installation and cost options.  Would use them again!

Bad experience.

My home warranty company recommended LD Smith Plumbing. They ended up replacing the entire water heater, which required several new joints and pipes replaced/installed. The cost AFTER my home warranty was $1,000.

The very next day. My basement floor was wet again. Guess what...it wasn't the water heater!! The main line was clogged and needed cleaned, which would've been 100% covered by the home warranty. It just feels scammy.

And after seeing the other reviews, it seems I'm not the only one to feel this way.

Watch out for the reviews you see here.  I had two clogged toilets in my home and worried that my sewer pipe (which collapsed a year earlier) was the issue, again.  Filed a claim with my Home Warranty only to find out that this time they sent a different plumber than the one who did the work.  I looked these guys up on YELP and freaked out over the poor ratings.  I had no choice, however, as my HW company no longer worked with the other plumber and according to my HW these were the only guys available to come out on the same day.  When I spoke with the girl in the office @ LD Smith I expressed my fears and she understood my concern.  Shawn, who came to solve my problem, was timely, courteous, & professional.  I would certainly want him to come out again if I had any other issues in the future.  If you're concerned, call them first....don't just assume that what you see on YELP is correct (they apparently purged all the good reviews and left the bad ones from only the last year or so....check out this business' rating on Google for more reviews).

I moved into a new home back in March. On April 13th, 2018, I had to use my home warranty because my Water heater was leaking.  The water wasn't staying in the pan and it was leaking all over my ceramic tile and onto the carpet. Kevin from L.D. Smith Plumbing came out. He told me I needed to have the water heater replaced. I agreed. He replaced it and installed the new one. He informed me that the home warranty didn't cover the disposal of the old unit, so at this time I paid $140, so he could take my old broken one away. Kevin at this time only replaced the water heater and not the pan. We talked about water leaking out of the pan and he saw water under the pan. He said that it will dry out, there was just a lot due to it leaking.

Now fast forward to 9/21/2018, I had to have them come back out (through the Home Warranty) because the pipe on my water heater was leaking again! It was not holding in the pan again! I had to keep switching out towels every day for two weeks prior because the pan was leaking all over my ceramic tile and carpet again! When Kevin came back in he told me that he talked to the home warranty company and they said they would cover the leaking pipe, but I needed to add a expansion tank and they didn't cover that. He then joked about how he had to word things correctly to the home warranty people because they are picky about what they cover. He told them he had to change the pipe (which was on the side of the water heater), but when he told them that the pan was leaking again - they all of a sudden wouldn't cover him removing the water heater, so I had to pay out of pocket for that and that cost was $544! I at this time asked him why I would have to pay to have him pull the water heater out to see if there was a crack in the drain pan and his response was Well it's not covered and that is the cost of labor to unhook the unit and pull it out to replace the pan. I stood in disbelief because the water heater needed removed anyways so he could fix the pipe and cut the pipe on top to install the expansion tank. He just looked at me like he understood, but said he had to charge me that. This was on top of the $364 I had to pay for this expansion tank because supposedly the water heater heats up too fast and it needs more room for the water to go when it expands. Not sure if this is true or not because right now I'm not believing anything I was told by this company. I had to pay the total $908 so I could actually have my 5 month old water heater working properly.

I called the office on Monday 9/24/2018 to try and talk to the owner about my issue. I in no way needed to pay the $544 for him to disconnect and remove the water heater when he had to any ways to fix the pipe and install the expansion tank! I spoke to Jennifer, who claimed to be the office manager. At first she was extremely rude when I was explaining the situation to her and told me that back in April, Kevin never put notes in the system from my order about the pan leaking, therefore it was too long ago to assume that it was an issue back then. I explained THREE times how Kevin told me he'd have to remove the water heater to fix the pipe and install the expansion tank on top because he had to cut the pipe on top of the water heater to install the tank. She finally just said she would talk to the owner of the company and he would call me back. About 15 minutes later I received a call back from Jennifer stating the owner Lance, said she could refund $100 for the inconvenience. WHAT!?!?! I asked her what $100 of the $544 I paid for him to just remove and disconnect the water heater meant and why was it only $100, when in no way should I have had to pay this amount. All she would say is that Lance, the owner, told her just to do that, but she didn't know why it was only $100, she would put it back on my debit card I paid with.

I am in EXTREME DISBELIEF about this experience. I feel 100% taken advantage of and lied to. When I let a service pro in my home, I'd expect them to be professional and do the right thing. I have asked the owner Lance to reach out to me, but still haven't heard anything from him. This was wrong and just a way for the company to get money from a home owner and the home warranty company.

STAY CLEAR OF THIS COMPANY. If the home warranty company assigns your plumbing issues to this company, call and have them send the request to a different local company! They take advantage of the customer and are just out to get as much money from a home owner as possible and double dip with getting money from the home warranty company. Their office staff is unprofessional and rude. Also, the owner Lance, must not care too much about his customer's experience if he won't even reach out and at least have a professional conversation with a customer.

Never do reviews but I don't want anyone to potentially waste hard earned money on their services. They gave us an estimate of $700 just to figure out the type of valve that needed to be replaced. Not including drywall repair...turns out I was able to figure out the valve...ordered from amazon for $24 and my husband replaced in 15 min without going through drywall. I feel completely scammed and will never use or recommend their services. I felt I should have been refunded the service charge for the HUGE discrepancy in numbers but got nothing more than, I will pass this along to the owner.

DO NOT USE! They're more concerned with getting their plumbers to ask for Yelp reviews then to actually complete the work and should you ask them to come back and address an issue that hasn't been fixed, be prepared to have them ask if your HUSBAND can meet them instead because apparently my female brain just can handle all these complicated pipes!!!! Skip this company at all costs and head to a plumber that will actually stand by their work.

I had to use this service due to a home warranty. I would NEVER use this service again.  I had just moved into a new home in Meridian Kessler.  Understanding there might be an issue down the road with tree roots and issues with pipes, I never expected this the first week we moved in.  Home warranty sent these people out to snake the drains. At that time I was told the line was clear but they recommended I get a camera inspection - which I totally understand. Since I thought the line was open, I stupidly thought I had a bit of time before I got the inspection. A week later, the same issue occurred with raw sewage in the basement. The same people came and told me I needed to leave the home and that I needed a whole new main sewer line.  This was done with the worst customer service/communication skills I have ever encountered. I then asked for a copy of the camera inspection, when I was told I didn't record it. If you want it i will have to charge you.  This tipped me off that something wasn't right, you either recorded it or you didn't.  Why would I pay for something again that I just paid for?  It didn't make sense. I was upset (as one could imagine) and not sure what to do. We have an elderly mother and several pets that would need to be moved. In the meantime and more money out the door,  Hope plumbing (who I recommend highly) came in and they were able to open the line enough to give us a few more days in the home (using water conservatively).  I paid for this outside of the warranty. LD Smith then had enough nerve to send me a quote for almost 15,000 dollars to put in a new sewer line, after I  had kicked their plumber out of my home and asked him not to send me a quote. Another company that specializes in drains (Nuflow, who are awesome as well), came in and did another camera inspection and they were able to open the line completely.  Guess what?  My main line is intact and just needed to be flushed with more powerful equipment.  Bottom line is I felt taken advantage of by this company, in a moment of stress. Thank goodness there are ethical companies in the world who will do the right thing by their customers.  This sadly is not one of them.
