The service was wonderful however I was over charged for services that were not needed. I knew what the issue was, and they still chose to look at my tub last which was the cause of the power surge. I was charged for the opening and closing of 7 outlets that had nothing to do with the issue when the smoke came out of the tub. At the end of the day, my tub is disconnected, my circuit breakers (that had unknown water damage) was replaced, and 7!!!receptacles and trim plates were taken off and put back on.

*I did update this review from a 3 to a 5 because they did reach out to me and adjust the over charge. They truly are a great company.

Called their main line- left a message. Received a text since it was a Sunday and was able to set up an appointment.
They texted to confirm the day before and gave us a time window.

They showed up early and asked if they should wait to come in. Very polite.

They came in and got straight to work. Fixed our wires in our junction box, hung a new light, new dimmer and made sure the breaker wasn't being tripped by the wires that were in the junction box.
420 was the total price.

They were quick and didn't leave a trace that they had been there except the new fixture. Will use them again when we are ready for more work to be done.

Darrell and his team are the gold standard in my eyes. They are professional, transparent, and, most importantly, they will work with you in all three stages of the service call, starting with clearly outlining the problem, going through various options, and lastly, being willing to work with you if unforeseen issues arise. This is a company I highly recommend to anyone getting (for me ) plumbing services done, but I am sure the electrical side is handled with the same level of professionalism. Sims and Sons made a difficult situation for me easier to handle; This company is definitely on my speed dial.

I was in search of someone to help with a EV charging setup in my garage. After a friend installed an outlet I wanted to have peace of mind in double checking. Daryl the owner and his brother came out for an estimate and ended up just taking the time to fix it right there on the spot. I have hired Sims & Sons for multiple jobs at this point, my first encounter with Darrell (who I now know is the owner) was him coming out to provide an estimate on my pending home purchase (at the time) of an over 100 year old home and bringing its electrical and plumbing up to date. Though Darrell new everything about everything and walked me through everything that was wrong, including options to resolve. At the time, I took that as him trying to oversell me, and only gave his crew a small part of what I wanted to get done, hiring other companies that turned out to be awful for most of the work.

The day after purchasing this home and 3 days before my family moved in, I needed major updates. While closing, Darrell called to see if we could postpone our work, I stated the urgency with my family moving in that coming weekend, he said let me figure it out and called back shortly to say he moved the other jobs, but needs to do all the work in one day, which I agreed to. That next day, 8 pickup trucks and vans showed up out front, with a dozen people exiting vehicles grabbing tools and supplies with Darrell out front directing the entire crew to perfection. The HVAC owner, showing up later for their HVAC install said I felt intimidated seeing them work.

After working with his crews more, Darrell knows a lot, and wants to share that knowledge, he will attend seminars on new plumbing or electrical technology to learn about water pressure or what is coming with solar power to inform his customers. This guy literally geeks out on this stuff, totally changing my perception of the industry. I took a few days off work right after buying the home and just talked with him about everything as I wanted to learn what I can. I went into buying this home wanting to do whatever work I could myself and here was a person willing to teach me while his crews took care of the work way beyond my capability.

I have led $100 million dollar, years long IT projects and was truly impressed with how well Darrell knew every component of the job, he is young, but has already done every aspect of the job, though an owner he will still get his hands dirty to ensure the work is done right. He was immediately able to deploy his crew to every aspect, respond to new issues as we opened walls and stay on time and on budget throughout. Other contractors constantly need to run back to Home Depot for parts, but Sims comes prepared, with a plan, instead of winging it like I have seen with other groups.

Every time Darrell gave me a quote for the new scope of work, my first reaction has always been holy shit. But every time I have went with other service providers to save money, in the short time I have owned the home, I have already needed others to come fix the problems they cut corners on to keep their costs down. Though the sticker shock is often big, every time I see the number of people coming for full days (often 10, 12 hours) performing the work, I will try to calculate the costs out with labor / supplies and wonder how they are making money.

I don't write reviews often, my initial thought of Sims & Sons, came from a perception that contractors will try to screw you over, but after working with their crews, I will never use anyone else.

I am absolutely thrilled with the work Darrell's team did for me today. They removed and replaced 13 light fixtures for me throughout my place. Darrell was super helpful as he helped me figure out what to do in a building that is super old with concrete ceilings. We live in a condo in the city and had some nasty wiring issues with the A/C unit on the roof of our building.

Finding Sims and Sons was a major breath of fresh air compared to all the other contractors that we had contacted. Darrell immediately put our mind at ease, was pragmatic but reassuring, and dispatched his team almost immediately.

The crew that did the work - Christian and Graham - were highly professional. They had diagnosed the issue in minutes, clearly explained the issues to a layman, and immediately went about fixing them. The end result was awesome.

I cannot say enough great things about this company. During the weekend our Air Conditioner went out and after having it replaced, the breakers blew overnight on Monday. It was a miracle it didn't cause a fire to our home.

Given that I have two young children at home, we needed a quick solution. The owner of Sims and Sons called me immediately, diagnosed the issue and was able to come the next day to completely replace the circuit board, breakers, wiring and AC connection. It turns out the inspector completely missed that the panel / breakers were non-compliant and this was a huge risk.

The electricians were professional, thoughtful and quick to act for our family. And they explained things every step of the way.

We had some outlets and a light fixture go out in our rental unit. Happened to find Sims and Sons on here and gave them a call due to their good reviews. After less than a day of texting they had a tech come to fix the problem within 2 days. Anel was a great help and he even came early (with a good amount of warning and communication on timelines).

The issue was thankfully very simple, and both Anel and HQ were in constant contact as they worked through the possible solutions and what it might take to fix them. Should I need anything else done, I'll call them in a heartbeat.

Days later, I received a text giving me a time slot, not asking me if it would work for me. Still, I accepted. Ultimately, no show, no text, call or email. Nothing. Good thing I didn't hire them, they probably wouldn't show up. Totally unreliable!

I wanted to write this review the same day so I didn't forget - I cannot recommend Sims and Sons enough for plumbing work. A previous handyman screwed up a shower valve installation at the beginning of my bathroom renovation, so I needed that fixed, along with valves for the rest of the sinks and toilets since they weren't all working. The in-home estimate was straight-forward and scheduled quickly.

I live in a condo and had to pre-schedule a building water shut-off, and they were able to get someone to my unit at exactly the right time. The price was reasonable, especially given the quality of the work. Zeno walked me through what I needed to know about the valves and the shower install, and also offered suggestions for tools I would need to use for my renovation.

My only suggestion would be to provide payment information during the estimate & scheduling, as Yelp says they take credit cards but there is a 5% fee for using one. They do take Zelle or check payment.

I will definitely call Sims and Sons for any of my plumbing needs in the future. Thanks again!

Darrell from Sims and Son's was amazing, I would highly recommend. I called on Friday afternoon for an emergency call, he communicated what emergency call pricing and regular pricing. Being very clear on the process. and what to expect. When they couldn't come Friday, they went out of their way to come on Saturday, which they don't typically do. They were professional, efficient and went out their way to explain the issue and go out of their way to make the experience a 5 star one. Would highly highly recommend!

We moved to a row house in Lincoln Park. The row house was built in 1888 and had some significant electrical issues including and not least of which was not being up to code. Christian and Romero were on time, possessed great attitudes and were a pleasure to work with on top of being excellent electricians. Communication and organization is extremely poor. Had a plumbing and electrical project (seemed perfect for them), but they are very disorganized. They came out fairly quickly to see the work that needed to be done, but they then called me a few times after saying they were scheduled to come out even though they already did and then jerked me around for a week just to get a quote that still didn't have a breakdown which was mentioned in the notes of the quote they sent. This is also after calling and texting them numerous times to follow up on the days they promised to have the quote sent by.
Maybe they do good work when you can actually get ahold of them but I'd recommend you call multiple places at the same time and not wait around for them to get to you. They were also twice as expensive on electrical work as another well rated electrician in the area for the same work. Maybe keep your request for plumbing only.

I wasn't going to add this but the unprofessionalism was uncalled for.
They wanted to charge $185 to come back out. I then had to walk them through why there was no need to come back. They then said fine no $185 and when I said no to them they said LMAFO. Completely unnecessary and unprofessional. Just skip them if you can.
Provided conversation pics so my response has nothing to hide. You could maybe argue my response was a little curt but I just had finished convincing them they still had not provided the breakdown right before that which was frustrating in itself. Maybe explains why they were reluctant to provide the breakdown since they were trying to sneak in unnecessary costs

They mounted it flawlessly and added extra anchors to ensure it's security -- it is 51lbs. Outstanding and professional. I will definitely use this company for future work.

Amazing company. They've helped me 3 times in the past 2 years. Today, Darrell, the owner, came to fix my circuit breaker. He arrived quickly; 45 min after I called him as I had no electricity. He fixed it in 15 min and didn't even charge me. He is a so very helpful and a nice guy. The other electricians that have been here from Sims are also just as nice and reliable. I highly recommend these guys. It's hard to find reliable electricians and these guys are just that. Reasonably priced, come as soon as you need them, fair, knowledgeable and amazing. When some other electrician left us with extremely shoddy work and unresolved issued, Ely and Graham from Sims & Sons stepped the hell up and saved the day. From start to finish, working with Sims & Sons was great.

Initially we called just to have repairs done to the completely botched induction range install the previous guy did, but our first chat with Darrell left us feeling like we'd found someone who knew their ish, so we gave them the whole list: move some outlets and switches, reroute a bunch of conduit, ground the electric, install ceiling lights and outlets where none existed, fix an outlet that'd be busted 10+ years, remove some lights from one switch and run them to another, etc., etc.

Ely and Graham worked together to come up with a solution for the range, and it was clear that Ely has some serious creative problem solving skills. Everything was up and running within a day (whereas the previous guys took three days and two different crews just to make our lives harder). Ely walked me through every repair, update, and change they'd made while Graham cleaned up (like, *actually* cleaned up. it was dope). They were also very attentive to the fact that we had some of the same power tools laying around that they had, and made sure nothing got swapped or accidentally taken at the end of the day.

Seriously. Huge props to Darrell, Ely, and Graham. 10/10, A+, 100%.

When searching for a handyman/ electrician it can be very overwhelming as there are so many out there! After doing lots of research I finally landing on Sims and sons. They were able to get me in that week to do an estimate with Darrell after the estimate they told me they needed more time and that another electrician would come out the next week.
The next week Nel came out and he was very helpful explaining to me what was wrong and finished within an hour. Being a young female owning my first condo apartment it can be very frustrating when electrical issues come about because I have no ideas what to do! ha Having an electrician like Sims and sons that are are reliable and good prices makes all the difference!

This is the kind of experience you wish for when you're hiring an unknown on Yelp. I requested a quote. Darrell, the owner, quickly responded. He gave me an estimate after I described a new outlet addition I wanted. He sent Anel over to check out the place. Anel surmised the job wasn't as straightforward as I had hoped. He briefed Darrell and he stuck by the original quote even though there was more to it than I had originally described. He sent Christian, Graham and Ramiro over the same day to do the actual work. They did a great job and cleaned up when it was finished. I couldn't ask for more.

Called Sims and Son's when the supposedly simple task of replacing a bathroom ventilation fan became an electrical nightmare. Communication was very fast via text, and they were able to come within a few days. Turns out at some point in the past (before I owned the unit) some illegal and dangerous shenanigans were done with the wiring in my bathroom, but after a good bit of effort from Anel and Dylan I am 100% confident that my wiring is now code-compliant and safe. I felt I was in very knowledgeable and professional hands the whole time. When I set out to change the fan, I wasn't expecting such a complicated or expensive project, but the most important thing is that a previously unknown problem got solved and I know it got solved right.

Geez Louise. These. Guys. Are. Good. Nate and Nel got to my house to repair a circuit breaker switch in my bedroom that kept tripping. We figured out that it was from a new outlet that was installed by a guy who mounted my tv. They quickly got to work. They wouldn't let me touch a thing. They moved the tv, moved furniture in their way and put everything back when they were done. They also repaired an outlet that I didn't even know wasn't working on the balcony. They even fixed our jacuzzi (happy wife, happy life ). THESE GUYS ARE PROS and know what they are doing. If you need electrical work done, call Sims!!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

I had an outdoor post light in the front yard that didn't work. Anel arrived on time. He was professional and explained what he was doing. After a bit of trouble shooting, he efficiently replaced the outlet and switch. I now have light on a very dark street.

We needed someone to check for wiring issues for a fixture that kept losing power. First of all they were very responsive and easy to schedule with. I contacted a few other places as well that never even responded. Then they followed up to confirm the appointment and were right on schedule. Christian and Ramiro called to let us know arrival time, and were very easy and pleasant to work with. They ensured that the wiring and connections were safe and up to code, then explained the possible problems and gave us options of next steps. The only thing the company could improve is communicating the $185 fee for service calls. I understood the free estimate to mean that they would decide how much work would be needed then the charge, but it was $185 to even begin the call. Otherwise, was 100% pleased with the company and service.

We have been extremely pleased with Sims and Sons' team who completed electrical work at our rental condo and our single family home in the city. Anel accurately and efficiently installed multiple new fixtures, troubleshooted non-working outlets, dimmers and 3-way switches throughout our home. Christian brought the outdoor lights, switches, and outlets up to code at our condo, and the way he designed the layout of the visible outdoor conduits was as visually appealing as one could make it. Both gentlemen were extremely polite and checked in with precise questions to make sure that the amount/type of work they were doing aligned with our expectations for the estimate. We will continue to call on Sims and Sons for future work. For reference, the pricing of the estimates seemed fair, and Darrell was very careful about the estimate details and communication with us throughout the work.

I exchanged messages with Darrell who sensed my urgency and immediately dispatched a team, who not only gave me an estimate but handled all of my needs on the spot. Our window ac cools the whole first floor of our 1920's Bungalow. During those early hot days in June our ac kept tripping the breaker if I set it any lower than 74. My mom is in her late 80's and is a cancer patient. Her room was 84 degrees! Not safe at all for her and I feared she'd get dehydrated. I saw Sims and Sons had 5 stars and honestly I was skeptical. Is this company really that good? Yup, it is! I called close to 5:00 on a Friday and got a message so I hung up thinking they were closed for the weekend. Maybe 10 minutes later Darrell Sims called me back apologizing for missing my call! I explained my situation and per his request sent photos of my electrical panel while we talked. He diagnosed over the phone that I needed a sub panel so the ac would be on its own breaker and quoted me a fair price. He was honest, personable and empathetic to my concerns about my mom including her high risk for covid. He assured me he'd send vaccinated guys which was exactly what I needed. Sunday night he texted me the guys would be at my house Monday morning! The guys (Anel, Delvin, Christian and Graham) were courteous and really hard workers. They hustled and got a sub panel added, grounded the house, added a new outlet and repaired an outlet that had sunk into the wall (that was outside of the initial scope but they added it without batting an eye.) The guys also wore the N95 masks I supplied without a single complaint. It was the best possible scenario I could have hoped for. As a person who has immunocompromised family members, having strangers in my home during this pandemic is really scary. Sims and Sons made me feel like family was in my home helping me take care of my mom and taking steps to make sure she's comfortable. I'm really grateful to Darrell and his guys for being so responsive and doing everything they said they would! Darrell is a great guy and he's running a great business!

Darrel's electrician Nate completely redid the electrical for my 3 flat -- service line, building rewire, new outlets, switches, and installation of all fixtures. Care was taken throughout the entirety of the process to make sure everything would function properly. Their ideas to add things that would improve the functionality of the building were spot on (intercoms, island outlets). I was on a budget and did not feel oversold, everything turned out flawlessly in the end.

I also completely redid the plumbing and had to do extensive gas work, and specifically Zeno's work was excellent. All of my internal plumbing is drastically improved, and we were able to service the addition of a W/D and dishwasher on each floor.

Darrell was excellent. Referred by a friend and probably the third electrician I have had at my house for various things (hanging a tv, setting up lights in bedroom etc). He was head and shoulders above them. I had what looked like a simple install of a fan. He told me exactly which fan would fit in my tight space and had to do some creative work in the ceiling. The builder made a short cut and out two pieces of 2x4 above the drywall and installed the cheap $20 ones from Home Depot 10 years ago. He made some cuts and reworked the problem. So I had him install my ring security cam on the third floor.

Super professional, knowledgeable beyond plug and play and really efficient. I will no longer have to take a chance and hire some guy. I erased the other two companies who did ok work. I will be passing his info onto friends. He's busy and charges accordingly. But trust me having electric done wrong or by a guy without his experience will come back to bite you. Use him

I gave Sims and Son a call because I had a faulty outdoor outlet that needed repair. I was hesitant to call an electrician because I really did not want to be ripped off, to be honest. Glad I did. Power unexpectedly went out in three rooms of our home and I had no idea who to call? I searched for an electrician in my area and Sims and Sons had great reviews so I called. Darrell responded immediately and sent a crew the next day to troubleshoot the problem. Eli and Graham came, saw, and conquered! It wasn't as simple as a blown fuse and they needed to locate the source of the faulty wire and examined and tested every route.

I really appreciated the information they shared and the questions that were answered. Mostly, they made this repair as convenient for me as possible so I could continue to work without shutting off power to the rest of the house.

This was a super professional crew who just got it done quickly. And, I thought the rate was extremely reasonable. Thank you Sims and Sons!

Great experience working with Sims and Sons Electric and Plumbing.
Started off working with Darrell for a consultation on what I was looking for. I was clear he understood electric/lighting work and was able to give many suggestions as well as pictures of previous jobs for reference.

Day of install Darrell brought Enis and Ando (sorry if I spelled that incorrectly!). They followed COVID protocols and all wore masks the entire time. They worked diligently. They even fixed a previous electrician's mistake to ensure I got the best quality of work and did not just put a bandaid on a previous mistake - I greatly appreciate that kind of work ethic.

100% satisfied with the work they did and I will definitely be using them again for any future electrical work.

We had just got a new condo and immediately had an issue with the high-end, really expensive fridge.
It was a nightmare.
We had an appliance guy show up who did absolutely nothing helpful, and charged us full price for the house call.
Thankfully, Darrell showed up at our place next, and was extremely professional, friendly and informative. He not only located the issue, but resolved it (and a number of other outstanding issues with our breakers) in short order. What could've been a very bad situation was handled safely.

My partner had found good reviews for this service after we had drilled into a wall and disconnected a wire. We were in need of immediate assistance. Thankfully Sims and Sons had good availability and came the following Tuesday to fix our electrical problem.

The day of was really snowy so there were some delays but they were really communicative. Our electrician Enis was extremely courteous and professional. He evaluated the situation quickly and was even able to answer some of our questions about possible future work we wanted. He also was able to diagnose a problem with our circuit breaker on the spot and was able to fix it in the same visit which saved us the hassle of having to ask for another service call.

Enis was very thorough with his explanations of what he was doing and answered all the questions my partner had. Would recommend this business to anyone looking for a good electrician!

We needed a new box installed in our bathroom to accommodate a new vanity light. Darrell was responsive to our request and spent ample time walking us through his proposal and estimate via phone.

Within a few days, Enis came out to do the work (in a mask and gloves, which was much appreciated). Enis worked tirelessly to install the new box and move an existing outlet to a more ideal placement, checking in along the way to ensure placements were to our liking before moving ahead. Darrell checked in via video call to ensure we were happy with the progress of Enis's work, which was a nice touch.

My husband and I found this company on Yelp after an unexpected power outage in our master bedroom. We were very impressed that Darrel answered the phone at midnight on a weekend and came over himself the following morning. He was able to take care of the issue quickly and explain why it had happened in a way a lay person could understand.

We unfortunately had a similar outage a few weeks later in the same room (unrelated- lucky us!). We texted Darrel and he immediately responded to help diagnose the issue via text. He got us set up with a service call the next day from Enis. Darrel knew all the right questions to ask was able to narrow down the issue via some pictures. Enis then came over and replaced our outside GFCI outlet which had gotten moisture into it. During both service calls the men wore booties and masks and were polite and informative. We obviously weren't thrilled these issues occurred back to back, but felt very comfortable that Darrel and his team were trustworthy and extremely competent. We also appreciated the follow up call from Darrel to make sure we were completely satisfied with our service.

We would be happy to recommend their service and would definitely use them again in the future for any other electrical needs!

When you pay Darrell (Sims and Sons Owner) for their work, you know it's done right the first time and will be the highest quality.

I worked with Darrell to schedule the appointment which was seamless as Darrell is responsive and transparent.

When it came to the day of installation, we worked with Enis who was on time and followed the COVID protocols which we appreciated since my wife was pregnant. When it came to execution, Enis was a AWESOME and was an absolute beast when it came to doing the work... Enis worked non-stop for 12 hours to get everything done which was hard because we asked him to help with 5 other electrical tasks which were not part of the original quote. He walked us through each step of the process numerous times to ensure we were comfortable with everything.

Darrell came out to provide supervision and guidance to ensure I was comfortable which was a nice touches When you work with Darrell, you can tell he treats his team the right way and values customer satisfaction which is the type of people I want to work with.

We are so happy with the work and the will be absolutely using them again.

I was looking for someone to fix two electrical outlets, so went on Yelp as most would. Sims and Sons had excellent ratings, so clicked their website off Yelp. The quote option was super easy and I was astounded, yes astounded, when I received a call from them within 5 minutes! People, this is 3 days after Christmas- an incredibly busy time for electricians (and everybody else)! Darrell (owner) was upfront about pricing, gave me a quote and said they could be there within the hour.

Darrell and Enis came masked (in less than an hour), put on their little sanitary booties before working, and quickly fixed the issue while making some of the best chit chat I've ever had with repair/service people. Would highly recommend Sims and will definitely be calling them again in the future as needed!

Anel and the guys at Sims and Sons are GREAT! I had a wall of outlets out in my condo. They came out quickly (within the next day) and had the problem fixed. Darrell was responsive, provided an accurate and reasonable up front quote (I am one to contact multiple vendors for price comparisons and this was very reasonable with much less wait time than others), and sent an efficient, personable team, led by Anel, out to solve the issue. It was a complicated job and they were done within a few hours. When I discovered another outlet out after they left - Darrell had Anel out within the hour and the issue was fixed. Anel walked me through every step - clearly a knowledgable and skilled technician. I've added them to my condo building referral list and will defintely use them for any electrical issues (and plumbing too!) in the future.

Darrell and Enis did a great job installing two light fans on 15ft ceilings, two pendent lights over our kitchen peninsular and a new outlet for the washer. Enis was very polite, hardworking and particular. He did a fantastic job. We just went through a condo remodel, hiring painters, cabinet installers, countertops, plumbers and floorers. Sims and Sons were the only team to execute perfectly with no problems.

These guys work hard and deserve the business. I referred Darrell before the job had even started because I was so impressed. My one piece of feedback would be to provide a written estimate as well as voice, just to detail what was included. That being said, Darrell was super understanding and we sorted it out. A minor detail which would not stop me using you guys again in a heartbeat.

I've had a recurring problem with an outdoor spigot that needed to be replaced, but was complicated to do as the pipes were buried behind the dry wall and spray insulation. Zeno (sp?) was great - he worked to find where the pipes fed from, making sure to limit the amount of dry wall that had to be cut through. He identified a way to install a cut off valve that did not previously exist and provided me with an access panel. He was great about explaining to me what he was doing, keeping me informed on his schedule and the team kept the area clean!

I would definitely use Sims and Sons for more services! Great local, neighborhood provider!

A torrential May downpour shorted out an outdoor outlet on our back porch. The blown outlet also took out the entire circuit it was on, affecting outlets in two bedrooms. I called a number of electrical services and received no response. I inquired with Sims and Sons and IMMEDIATELY received a message to call Darrell. Darrell was very polite, listened to our issues, and despite being in the middle of a packed day, he was able to personally come by within a couple hours. An incredible response that was very much appreciated!

His work was quick and very thorough. We now have a great new outlet and *waterproof* outlet cover. We have power back! He even quickly took a look at a separate appliance problem to confirm for us that it was not a power supply problem. He was in and out within a half hour. I am doing a total bath/laundry room reno that involves adding multiple sinks, adding light fixtures, moving all conduit and plumbing in a wall, moving outlets, new shower valve, new washer pan, dryer outlet, etc. First, the company's website asks you to fill out a form describing your job, then just tells you to call their number to describe it again and schedule an estimate, which seemed like a waste of time. But I called, and Darrell told me he'd get in touch with me Thursday to schedule a visit on Friday. Finally at 9:30pm on Thursday he told me he'd be there between 2:30-3:30 on Friday. Friday I took time off work and waited, finally texting him at 3:48 to ask if he was still coming. He responded that he was on the way. At 4:28 I asked for an ETA, and he told me he was behind and no longer coming, and when he'd said he was on the way he'd thought I was someone else. After taking time off work and waiting two hours, I was pretty upset, but still politely told him that I would've appreciated a heads up earlier that he wasn't coming instead of making me sit there waiting for two hours. Obviously if I hadn't texted him he had no intention of ever reaching out to me to let me know, and he has absolutely zero regard for a potential customer's time. But instead of being apologetic, he was demeaning and insulting, saying I can send you a $5 Starbucks card as an apology. Comes across as *extremely* childish and unprofessional, when you have blown someone off, wasted their time, and cost them money taking time off work, to dismissively offer them $5. I would even understand if I was wasting his time asking for a light bulb to be changed, but this was a relatively big job. My architect told me some contractors are sexist and probably treated me that disrespectfully because I'm a woman, but it's also possible Darrell is just that rude to everyone. Based on his reviews that seem to be mostly about changing light fixtures or fixing leaks, I also wonder if his team is just not equipped for a job of this size so he blew it off, but it also would have been polite to simply say that up front instead of scheduling a consult he had no intention of showing up for.

Definitely not someone I would trust to show up for a job, do it competently, or treat me and my home with respect.

(And just in case he attempts to claim the offer of a $5 Starbucks card was not an insult but an attempt at a sincere apology and simply the best he can afford, he obviously never sent one, lol.)

Edit in response to his reply: 1) Weird that you claim a total remodel is small for you but all your reviews are for replacing light fixtures. 2) Yes we all have bad days, but it still takes under a minute to let a customer know you are having a bad day and won't make it. We could've rescheduled if you'd had the respect to do that. Please explain why you made no effort to notify me.
3) Congratulations on your binders full of women; like I said, I'm also totally open to the possibility you're rude to all genders. That was just my architect's guess. 4) You have all of my contact information, I gave three days before leaving a review, and you still have not reached out to apologize or send any of these cheap regifted gift cards you keep promising, so do not publicly pretend the offer is sincere. 5) How is it odd to let you know blowing me off had actual consequences for me, and a heads up would've been nice?

Of course when it's 90 degrees and 100% humidity all of our window AC units suddenly stopped working! I have used Sims and Sone for a year and a half. Darrell is literally on my speed dial. My condo building has had a number of plumbing issues that have been difficult to figure out - fixing one problem exposed another. After redoing my bathroom, we started having a leak into the downstairs unit. We tried to figure it out snd had other plumbers come attempt to diagnose the problem. Zeno came over, figured it out immediately and fixed. However, the plumbing work was complicated and solving the leak led to back ups because of back pitching and compression within my pipes. Zeno was incredibly thoughtful, used cameras to diagnose, and came and fixed my plumbing once and for all. He is incredibly skilled and knowledgeable, answering every question I had thoroughly, explaining it all to me and physically showing me so I could understand the problem. He stayed after the work was complete to help me with another issue and investigate an issue my neighbor was having. Truly, he goes ABOVE AND BEYOND. He was also teaching an apprentice while completing my work and it was really neat to see just how knowledgeable and skilled he is to pass it on to someone else. While the issues in my building were not common, Zeno had the grace, patience, and persistence to figure it out and did not stop until it worked fully. I cannot recommend Zeno enough. PLEASE use him because I promise you will not be disappointed.

Not a great experience. I was quoted a price via text message and sent pics of the jobs I wanted to do and I agreed to have the work done with the price I was quoted. Worker arrived 20 mins late, not a big deal, but was polite and professional. I guess the light fixture was suppose to be a two man job and took him a little longer than normal, which again was no big deal for me. The outdoor camera was installed without any issue and done in a speedy time frame, but when I called to make a payment I was quoted $150 extra for what Derek said was a 'service call fee'.

I can understand an additional $30-40 for the extra time it took to install the light fixture but $150 when I told him what I needed done is unacceptable, especially when I was NEVER told about an additional $150 'service call fee'. So be careful and make sure to ask for a total 'out the door' price before having any work done.

The work looks like it was done right and looks pretty good so no complaint there.

Update: Upon hearing I was displeased with the$150 service call fee, Derek called me and said he would refund me the amount since it was never mentioned to me prior to getting the work done. Still not happy about it, but at least they care about customer satisfaction which is a good sign.

This review is long overdue. My husband and I have been dying to change our light fixtures in our living and dining room. We also noticed that our outdoor outlets weren't working, so we had those checked as well. I contacted a couple electricians, but no follow up. Monday morning I sent messages to a few electricians re: replacing light fixtures in our house. Within 10 minutes, I got a message from Darrell about the service call. He called me to get details about the issues, and was ready to buy the lights (instead of me going out to purchase them) and install them the same day. After receiving a surprising jolt in my garage upon flipping the light switch, I knew I urgently needed someone to come inspect the situation. Darrell and Enis were awesome, I can't say enough about how happy I am with the job they did. I called on a Friday to see if I could get an estimate for replacing some lights and switches. Would highly recommend Darryl and his team to anyone. Sent a message regarding some electrical/lighting issues with my condo building and had a response back in less than 15 mins. Our shower handle broke around 10 PM on a Sunday and Darrell and his colleague came promptly that evening to help us shut off the water and identify the parts we needed to replace the handle. The following morning he retrieved the parts around 7 AM and then came to our place to replace our handle around 8:30 AM. I hired Sims and Sons to repair electrical issues in the common area of our building. Other electricians either couldn't identify the cause of our electrical problem or wouldn't come out in-person to assess the situation. Darrell Sims visited our building and walked me through the potential causes before submitting an estimate. Darrell was also really responsive to the various demands of our condo board. The electrician, Enis, was really professional and informative before, during and after the work was completed. Mr. Sims made time in his busy schedule to come look at an electrical problem I've been having with my a/c wiring for over a month now. He and his brother were very professional, came in masks and took the time to assess the issue. While this specific issue was not their area, Mr. Sims recommended a licensed professional who was able to do the work. It was especially timely since I'd had several popular vendors to come out but they were unable to diagnose the problem or actually fix the issue.

Perhaps the best part of the experience was the follow up to make sure my issue was taken care of. Customer service from this team was amazing and I highly recommend this business.

My in-laws redid their kitchen and gave us their much newer dishwasher to replace our old one. I tried to hook up the new one myself but it was over my head. I reached out to Sims and Sons and spoke to Darrell, the owner. He got over to our house quickly and checked out the situation. He quoted me a fair price and he got right to work.

He had to run to Home Depot to pick up a couple of things but was clear about not charging me for travel time. When he got back, he and another guy quickly hooked everything up and actually made a couple of improvements to the setup.

Also, they did all of this on a Sunday and there were no extra charges for this! When they left, they made sure to leave everything spotless.

I'm happy with both the work and the price.

I will definitely use Sims and Sons in the future and highly recommend them.

Encountered an electrical issue while doing some simple DIY projects. Call Sims and Sons without much research given their strong reviews on Yelp. Was extremely happy to find that their service lived up to all the 5 star reviews.

From a service perspective, Derrell was quick to respond and schedule a visit, he showed up on time and completed the work quickly but thoroughly. He was happy to explain all the issues and how to fix so I can handle the problem in the future. I also brought up an additional issue without an outdoor outlet unrelated to why I had him come out. He was kind enough to carve out an extra hour to get the part he needed and fix the issue so I did not have to pay an extra service fee.

Normally I would not leave a 5 star review for such an easy fix. However, I could tell just how much he cares about the quality of his (and his team's) work. This might sound corny but Derrell lives in the area, he is proud to be local and that attitude is reflected in the quality of his work. He also is not an old-school electrician. He does work in commercial buildings including new restaurants that demand an electrician that knows how to craft lighting in a stylish manner to improve ambiance. This is purely from conversation but he is a one-stop call for both electrical issues and lighting design projects.

If you live on the North side and need an electrician you would be foolish not to start with Sims and Sons, I know I will be using them for any electrical issues or projects in the future!

We recently purchased a home and within the first week of living here, the outlets and lights in one room/stairwell stopped working in the middle of vacuuming. Not really sure what had happened, I reached out to Sims and Sons and Darrel was able to squeeze us in the following day to get it fixed.

Enis came out the following morning and as great! And not to mention on time. He followed Covid precautions from the very beginning and was even considerate about asking if I preferred for him to take his shoes off once he entered our home. I couldn't believe how quick he was at replacing a couple outlets that we had concerns about and was thoughtful about not creating damage to the wall to replace an outlet box. Our original issue did take a while to troubleshoot, however Enis was very thorough about checking all the potential problems. It definitely solidified the need to hire an electrician rather than try to do it ourselves. In the end, the call did end up costing more than originally quoted as it wasn't the simple fix that we had all imagined. However, Darrel was upfront about the possibility and how the hourly rate would factor in if that was the case which is greatly appreciated. Also, Darrel even sent me a text later on that night to check in and make sure that our problem was fixed as well as check to see how are service was. I have since vacuumed twice in that area since (kids!) and have not had a single issue.

I will definitely reach out to Sims and Sons again in the future to discuss other electrical needs that came up in our home inspection!

Can't say enough about good things about my experience with Sims and Sons Electric and Plumbing. Was looking to add electrical and a ceiling fan to a bedroom that didn't have it and shortly after reaching out for a quote, Darrell contacted back with a fair price and scheduled me for a last minute appointment the week of Christmas. At first, this electrician seemed promising. Darrell came out the same day I contacted them to provide an estimate. We were doing some delicate electrical work that involved drilling a hole into the side or our condo, while avoiding gas and water lines. So we wanted to be careful about who we used for the job. Darrell provided a price and answered all of our questions. Due to work schedules, we need the work to be done on a weekend. So, we booked something 10 days out, given that Darrell was could not do it on a weekend sooner than that. The night before our Saturday morning appointment, Darrell texted that he could not make it and needed to reschedule. After we waited 10 days for him, he told us 15 hours before the appointment that he could not make it. Had he told us anytime in the preceding week and a half, we would have lined up another electrician. So he really left us hanging. And we had also scheduled the rest of our Saturday agenda around his availability. So he wasted our time in every respect. Very unprofessional.

It was 10 pm on a Tuesday night - in a deep freeze - when we realized our newly installed furnace had blown a power line in our home. We were without heat and had a huge fire hazard looming while our young daughter and two dogs were already fast asleep. Darrell and his team were at our home almost immediately and worked with the HVAC company who had just installed the unit to identify the source and configure a remedy. When a midnight run to Home Depot did not suffice, they worked until 2 a.m. making sure our family was safe to stay at home through the night until Home Depot opened again in the morning. They returned promptly and finished quickly, cleaning the entire work area before they left.

I cannot recommend Sims and Sons highly enough during an emergency or otherwise!

I'm a new condo owner and my smoke alarm started beeping like crazy. I thought it must be a low battery, but did not know if it was linked to other condos and did not want to bring the fire department to my house in case it was. The beeping started Monday morning and I called another company to come the same day. Not only were they late, they said they would not be able to come till the next day (so I and my neighbors would have to endure an evening and night full of beeping). By this time it was 3 pm. Thankfully, I looked online and found Sims and Son. Darryl answered my call immediately and asked me to text him my address. He and his colleague Tim came over immediately after their last job at 6 pm and fixed my smoke alarm in 3 -5 mins. They gave me advice on how to operate it, what batteries to use to stave off the beeping , and some other neat tips for what I could do to enhance my lighting and save electricity. They saved my day. Wonderful company, I will definitely be using them again :)

Darrell is the best. I had an issue with a circuit breaker not reseting...for half of my condo...whilst trying to work from home. He came within a half hour, was diligent in figuring out what it was (shotty work from a previous contractor whom I will never use again), and fixed it within an hour. It could not have been more difficult to schedule an appointment with Darrell. He tried rescheduling THREE times when I specifically told him when myself (and our tenant) would be available. He had no understanding that as a landlord, we can't just walk into their unit. We need to give them notice. It was incredibly stressful finding a time that worked for both of us and I ended up having to find another plumber to come out. Why make it so difficult for a customer to schedule an appointment? Because of this, I did not trust him or anyone on his team to come to our building.

I requested a quote for a lamp bulb flickering issue. Darrell called me very shortly after and we discussed the issue and potential solutions. While he offered to make a service call, he also advised that this kind of issue may or may not be worth the service cost based on the value of the lamp. He also provided some suggestions as to how I could try to address the problem itself. In the end, I decided to try to resolve the problem myself since the service cost outweighed the lamp value. Darrell and his team did an extraordinary job on our electrical projects. They were creative on solving unique problems with installing a bathroom heater and an electric fireplace. They were quick, efficient and accommodated our schedule. We highly recommend them and will use them in the future.

Darrell was the answer to my prayers! I own an old building and had a major leak that no one could figure out the cause of. And then along came Darrell and Sims and Sons. After a year of run around it was finally corrected properly. Next we had an old outlet short out. Once again Darell came to the rescue and fixed it. He showed me how a previous handyman had Jerry-rigged the wires and what needed to be done to turn it into a safe, permanently working outlet. I trust Darrell and am so grateful to have found someone honest! I have since had him out to my home, another old quirky building, for both electrical and plumbing issues. I can highly recommend Sims and Sons!

Darrell was excellent. Pleasant, professional and very good at what he does. We were having major issues with our garbage disposal and faucet and he was able to come around and navigate the old flaws the original builders had left to fix our issues quickly and efficiently. He was very upfront about the jobs, giving us quick fix and comprehensive fix options as well as recommending honestly what would be best. Ultimately he was happy to go with what we preferred. He was flexible with his timing and always very communicative, keeping us in the loop at all times. I would highly recommend working with Sims and Sons. I'll definitely use them again.

I needed help fast with an electrical shortage that had half the outlets in my house not working. Darrell was able to come the next day and it took him all of five minutes to fix the problem. Real nice and honest electrician. I had a light switch in my kitchen go out the next day and I sent Darrell a message and he responded within 5 minutes to see what the problem was exactly, but I was able to fix it myself. His service is fantastic.I will for sure give him a call for future electrical and plumbing problems, highly recommend to anyone.

I had a list of a few things that I needed electrician help with, some of which were issues that I created myself. Darrell was patient and detailed when explaining what was wrong when he was doing the walk through for the estimate. He presented me a few options to minimize the amount of drywall that had to be cut out to install a new outlet in my kitchen, which I greatly appreciate. However, if it comes to that he has a good dry wall guy he recommends. What was supposed to be just an estimate Darrell stayed longer to help cover up the mistakes I made so that my dining room had lights for when my in-laws came into town the next day. Without a doubt I will be calling Darrell in the near future to take care of a few more things. Highly recommend!

Darrell and his partner tackled a problem that had been lingering for months, which other electricians were unable to figure out. They were amazingly responsive, professional, and thorough. Never rushing to get the job done, but instead making sure that it was done 100% right. They came out a couple times, even on evening time, and were a delight to work with. Will not mess around with other companies in the future, they are my go-to for anything electric (and likely some upcoming plumbing), and I would highly recommend them to anyone working for the same.

My building had old cloth wire and a old panel that's been giving me issues. One evening (during the weekday) I lost power in two of my bedrooms. With a friend referral I called Darrell not knowing if he was available or had any time to pencil me in. Not only did he come but he traced down the root of the problem and he showed me issues that was with the Old Wiring. Unspliced arching out and etc. he installed new wires, new devices and trimmed out 2 of the bedrooms and installed two ceiling fans in a breeze with no issues. He was very professional and easy to work with!! Highly recommended!!

I own a small business and we had an issue that needed to be dealt with right away. I looked around Yelp and saw the great reviews for Sims and Sons and decided to give them a call. Darrell was very helpful and let me know everything up front. I had a client at 9 and needed to have my problem fixed before then. Darrell had arranged his time so that I could still run my business by 9 AM - He told me he would be at my business at 8:30. He got here at 8:20. So right away I knew this guy was professional and that he wanted to make sure I was fully functional for my work. He worked efficiently, answered all my questions, and fixed every issue that I had. He literally finished at 8:58, just enough time before my client came in. He even looked at other problems that I had and fixed those as well. I was very satisfied with the service and he explained everything he did. Prices are very reasonable and he already let me know how much everything was going to cost before he came in, so I was prepared and was not bombarded with hidden or extraneous fees that other people try to cheat you with. They followed all the COVID guidelines, Darrell even wiped his feet outside before entering my building because he had walked through some dirt. Very considerate! I've had other people not care and just walk through my business and make my floors dirty. Because of this I can tell he truly cares about his customers. I will continue to hire these guys for any future problems. They deserve all of the praise that you see here!

I would highly recommend using Darrell and his company (Sims & Sons). He got a hold of me within 15 minutes of sending him a message on Yelp and setup a prompt appointment to come view my project request in person. I worked in the electrical industry and had reached out to several others in the area but after the in home consultation I could tell that he was more knowledgeable and qualified than competitors. He actively communicated with me about materials, parts, and made sure he had the right equipment for the job. He even managed to schedule me in earlier than I had expected. When he got to our building he setup and got right to work installing the new breaker, running conduit, pulling new cable and installing a 240VAC outlet to a new garage heater. His costs were very competitive for the high quality of work he does. Definitely will use him again for any electrical work I need completed.

I had indoor electrical, outdoor electrical, and indoor plumbing needs in my place, and Darrell was able to solve all of them with amazing customer service and such efficiency. I contacted him at 10 am, he got back to me minutes later, and by 4 pm the same day, he was at my place with all the supplies he needed for multiple issues. Prior to coming, he had me take pictures of my needs, so he could save time by picking up the parts before even arriving on scene. Him and his associate were so professional and respectful, yet still very personable and easy to talk to and work with. They took the time and dedication to make sure everything was done right, and even made sure to diligently clean up after themselves as they went. Part of my list of repairs was in not easily accessible, and somewhat dangerous, areas on my rooftop, and they serviced them effortlessly, even in the rain. I've already recommended Sims and Sons to other people because the service was so fantastic.
