Matthew K. Roper is a driven individual whom at a young age realized what he wanted to do with his career. As a by the book electrician Matthew took the time to gain his required hours(8 yrs total) in the field and in the classroom(Studied Electrical Theory 4yrs) before acquiring his contractors license. Throughout his experience in the electrical trade Matthew worked with several electricians who were at the top of their field and were passionate about their trade. Matthew absorbed all the knowledge that his mentors could give to him and always tried to bring it to a higher level. Matthew started Roper Electric with the goal of not only improving the electrical trade but also improving the community in which we are proud to call our own.

I was looking for an electrician in my local area to install an electrical outlet for our dryer because our house is set up for gas appliances. I found Roper electric here on Yelp and reached out. Karah was super helpful over email and was very willing to answer any questions we had. Mathew came out to assess the work that would be needed and wrote up a quote for us which was great. I love that this company honors military discount, it's greatly appreciated. We scheduled for the service to be done and we're very happy with the outcome. Would definitely recommend this company if you're looking for an electrician.

It's extremely disheartening to write this review but after a week of no response I'm extremely disappointed. We hired Matt to wire our entire house, new construction, after it was wired we did not hire him to do the finishing work because my husband knows how to hook up everything. We had a question on wiring for 2 GFCI's in the kitchen and after 3 calls, 3 texts, and 2 emails, I've still heard nothing from Matt. His wife emailed me and apologized and said he's busy. Being ignored for a week after we paid an arm and a leg for wiring is just unprofessional and completely unacceptable in my opinion.

As your reviews note, you are not responsive. Had you called or texted or emailed to say how you'd like to handle things I'm sure this could have been addressed in a way that would make you comfortable.
As for not paying for so called add ons what was the bill for $276 for wiring a fire bell that was done incorrectly? I'd say that's an add on we paid for.
Yes you came on short notice, but if you didn't have time for the job that took you a week and we paid $13000 for, then you shouldn't have taken the job.
Referring to one of your clients as someone who steals food from the grocery store is pathetic and again shows your professionalism.
Matt did an excellent and efficient job installing ceiling fans and overhead lighting in our new home. Easy to work with, neat and tidy, reasonable prices. I would happily recommend Roper Electric to anyone.

I contacted Roper Electric to get a quote to install a ceiling fan and get an outlet in the garage installed in order to get a new garage door opener installed. Matt contacted us within 24 hours and came over to give us a quote. The day we scheduled the work to be done was in the middle of our heat wave. Since he would be doing work in the attic area, I thought we may need to reschedule. But Matt, unaffected by the weather report, came over as scheduled and did a wonderful job PLUS fixed a last minute item we needed checked - a hot tub switch that was shorting out!!
Matt was awesome!! When we are in need of any further electrical work, we will not hesitate to call Matt to do the job.

Mat is great. My oven wasn't working. He found wiring was labeled incorrectly by the original home builder and the City Inspector did not catch it.
Replaced breakers, labeled everything correctly and boxed up 2 splices. Took him about 3 hours to do everything.
He also helped install a Ring Doorbell Pro.

In a two day span Matthew installed 3 new ceiling fans, demo a light box in our bathroom, installed a new bathroom fan, installed 6 can lights, and ran wires so my new electrical could operate from wall switches. Matthew just concluded numerous jobs at our home over nearly a week. He was experienced, knowledgeable, courteous, patient, prompt, efficient, flexible, and fair. He corrected several errors that prior electricians tried to cover up, diagnosed and fixed problems that they could not, and made our home safer and more efficient. He very obviously takes great pride in his craft. He and Karah are more communicative than most business owners and are just excellent to do business with. I will not use any other electrician in the future. You shouldn't either......

Thank you for coming out short notice to my parents place to fix their electrical issue. We greatly appreciated and will be using your service in the future!
I had Matt out to inspect electrical on a house I was buying. For the inspection I would give him 5 stars because he did show up for the inspection and there was no charge for the inspection. He was polite and helpful. He identified some short comings and answered questions.
I explained that I had rewired two houses myself but I do not want to work off of a main panel. The main panel in this house also was the panel for most of the house circuits so the panel always has power to it.
So I wanted a quote for pulling power off of the 150A breaker to a new sub-panel. I could pull a permit and take it from there.
I was told I would get a quote shortly via email. Nothing came, we went to closing anyhow, After closing I called and left a message to please provide the quote....Nothing. I left a third message....still nothing.
So if you dont want to do business with someone for what ever reason, say so. Don't just walk away. That was unprofessional.

I've used Roper Electric twice now and I highly recommend them. Matt came out when we moved into our new home and helped us fix a few electrical issues that were identified during our home inspection. He responded to my call quickly and arrived on time. He fixed all of the issues identified properly and correctly fixed some questionable repair work that had been done by a handyman. His prices were very reasonable and he charged us exactly as originally quoted.
We called Roper Electric again a few weeks ago to hang a few new lamps and chandeliers. Once again Matt responded quickly and his quotes were reasonable. He brought his assistant Dominic with him and the two of them were wonderful. They made sure we liked the hanging height of each chandelier before they finalized installation. When I noticed that there was a sticker on one of the lamps once it was hung from a very high ceiling they did not even hesitate to go back to the truck and get a ladder to remove the sticker.
In both visits Matt made sure we were 100% happy with his work. I highly recommend Roper Electric and will use them in the future as we upgrade our other lighting fixtures.

I had Matthew do some work and when some of the lights were not the correct color he said he would come and switch them out when the replacements arrived. However, after calling and emailing him he never responded.
We've used Roper Electric many times now and we're happy every time!! Matt is very personable and patient with us in trying to determine the issue of our concern. He's installed fans and lighting and has done plenty of repairs like our electrical for our sprinklers and issues with our panel. This is our go to electrician!!

Our old electrician informed us he was no longer doing residential work so we needed to find someone new.
My wife received a referral from a colleague at work for Roper Electric. I emailed them and Matthew came out a few days later to give us a quote on 5 LED can lights that we needed installed.
His pricing is phenomenal and his professionalism is even better. He did it all very well and even patched up the ceiling where he removed a fan. Fixed and replaced an outlet at no extra cost.

Matt did a great job installing can lights in my living and dining rooms. They are near perfect matches to the lights that were already in the house, he was very clean and left the workspace neat, and made sure I agreed on placement before cutting any holes. He's also done a breaker box and spa hookups for a friend. Highly recommended!
My parents referred Roper Electric to me after having both of their places done by him. He installed a fan for me and swapped out a dining room light with a chandelier.
He worked fast and even suggested a dimmer which I thought was helpful. He touched up the drywall and I was happy. He worked fast and was a pretty friendly guy. I don't know a lot of electricians but I will defenitely go with him again since it was a painless process.
My parents' home had experienced some electrical issues after a storm, which caused a large portion of the downstairs lights and outlets to go out. After trying a couple things with no success, I contacted Roper Electric. Karah responded very quickly and I was able to make an appointment. Matthew came out and was very friendly and helpful. My dad called me once Matthew was done and said that he solved the problem in less than an hour! Boom, power restored. Not only that, but the cost to complete the job was very reasonable and considerably less than what I anticipated. Matt is awesome. He is quite knowledgeable and his rates are reasonable. He works very cleanly and neatly. I have recommended him to several people who all have been pleased. He's our family electrician for sure!
Matt the owner just fixed my outlets issue and he wouldn't charge me because it was just the breaker that jumped. I asked him to replace the ground fault circuit interrupter but he said it wasn't necessary. The best thing was that he returned my call within an hour, and squeezed me in between his other appointments when I didn't want to wait till this weekend. Yes, he works on weekends too!

What can I say? From installing new ceiling fans, to moving our network access point from one room to the other, Matthew has done a great deal for us. I highly recommend Roper Electric. I called Matt out to my home for several fairly minor electrical issues. He showed up on time, had everything he needed to do the work, and provided me with solid advice that wound up saving me some money.
Roper Electric is amazing! Matt and Karah are such a pleasure to work with and make the process so easy! I had some last minute electric work (relocating light switches and a thermostat), that I needed done right away before a desk was installed and they fit it into their schedule and accommodated all my requests. I needed an electrician to troubleshoot outlets that were not working in a home we recently bought in Vista. Not knowing anyone up here, I turned to Yelp to help me find an electrician with a good reputation. I chose Roper based on the reviews here and I feel very fortunate to have done so.
I called on a Sunday and even so, Matt (the owner) returned my call within 2 hours to set up an appointment for later in the week. He arrived on time, looked professional and took the time to listen to the list of problems we were having. He got to work sourcing the problem and found it within 10 minutes! This was amazing to me since it was in issue we had been living with for over 6 months and couldn't figure out.
Matt showed me the problem and fixed it right away. He was also able to show me several other items that were either not done to code (by the previous owner) or could be a safety issue. There was never any scare tactics or pressure to do extra work, he just explained what he was showing me in everyday language which I definitely appreciate.
We will be upgrading to a 200 amp panel soon and Matt was able to give me a quote and walk me through the process that day as well. I'll definitely be using Roper Electric for all electrical needs we have and have recommended him to several other people as well.
I needed to get 5 can lights for my living room, plus some additional electric work in a house I'd recently purchased. I called Matt and he responded immediately. We scheduled an appointment and he came over to give an estimate. The price was great and very competitive . He was professional, knowledgeable, and efficient. He answered all my questions and even made some great suggestions. When they did the final work they did a great job. They were done in less time then was estimated and when they left the house looked great and I had great lighting. I can't recommend him enough and I will for sure be using them again.
Matt and Dominic I think was his name showed up on time as scheduled. They installed 2 ceiling fans and an outdoor light. Best thing is they work on Saturday so I did not have to burn my vacation time. Will be my go to electricians in the future.

Great business! Had an emergency situation at my home last weekend. Matt responded quickly and came out to fix my issue on a Saturday evening (same day). His prices were fair, he charged me for 1 hour of work at his normal billing rate and the troubleshooting and labor took all of that. Before leaving he noticed some shoddy electric work near the pool, he quoted to fix it the right way--but before leaving made it safe for my familty and I. On the following Monday I noticed that our sprinklers weren't coming on-- could have been related to our original issue, but it's fair to say that these were likely wired iincorrectly from the beginning...Anyway Matt came back out and fixed the issue free of charge!!! I will be using Roper Electric for any and all electric needs at my home and would gladly reccomend him to anyone.

Matt Roper is great at what he does, honest also. So far we have had him install 2 ceiling fans, a fan in our master bath, and a 50 amp outlet for our RV. We are going to have him return soon to do more work for us. We would not use any other electrician to do our work!

Matthew is fantastic and his quality of work is second to none. I am a new home owner and I had gotten a quote from a different electrician who never responded to any of my calls to schedule service. I needed a panel totally rewired to code and some lines in boxes in the celing. I found Matt and he came out the next day to look at my situation and came the next week to do the work. Not only was his quote more reasonable than the first but he came in under budget! His work is beautiful too; I made him take a picture of the amazing re-wired sub panel as it is so much better! There is something super nice about finding a company who still believes in old-fashioned common courtesy and customer service! Roper Electric was courteous, quick, and got the job done so fast I couldn't believe it! There was no hassle, and when I had a million questions, they were totally patient and answered every one. They are very frugally priced as well for the top notch job they did with interior wiring the former tenants seriously screwed up, as well as not beating around the bush, or charging for something that didn't need to be done. This is now officially my go-to for any electrical needs from now on!!
My kitchen lights needed replacing so I called Roper Electric due to yelp reviews. Roper and his partner came while I was at work (hubby was here) and replaced the lights in less than an hour, were courteous and friendly, and gave a military discount! Totally reasonable! I had to move my electric meter and install a new panel which includes working with SDGE and my city. I must have talked to 6 or 7 electricians over a year period. Some guys bid the job over 2x the price we paid but the main problem with most guys is they'd be hard to get in touch with and then just disappear. Out of all the bids, Matt's came in on the lower side but more importantly, he was the only person who communicated well. We picked him and he was constantly keeping us informed, and did a great quick job. I will be using him in future projects and would completely recommend him.
Courteous, efficient, and professional with attention to detail. I compliment the reliability in both the electrician and their work on safe, genuine quality of the work they've done. I recommend Roper Electric to everyone I know or meet! I trust that my home and family are safe, in that Roper Electric's standards are above any and every other electricians I've dealt with (which I will never use any other electricians besides Roper Electric again). So I was working in my garage doing a small home repair and all of a sudden I lost complete power to my house. Nothing worked, at all. Not even the smallest hint of electricity. Thinking I did something horrific, I rushed to find an electrician willing to help and Matt couldn't have been more kind and helpful. He rushed over to my house immediately and we diagnosed that the actual problem wasn't mine at all, but the power company. He gave me the information I needed to contact them and was so helpful and even asked me to call him and to tell him how everything went, showing great concern.
Extremely friendly and very knowledgeable as he knew immediately that it was on the other end. Highly recommended if you need any electrical service. Couldn't have been more pleased.
This guy is either out of business or he has tremendous jobs opportunity. I called within 2 weeks 2 times and no answer no call back.
I have used Roper Electric for all of my electrical needs in and outside my home. Matt has been professional, reasonable, courtious, efficient, dependable and always on budget or under. He has made recommendations that have saved me money almost every time. They are punctual and and do great work while leaving the job clean and tidy when finished. I called to have Matt come do a small job at our business. Matt was very timely in coming out for the repair. We have a business that being quiet is extremely important and Matt was very conscientious of that. The staff and our clients hardly knew he was there. There was a small glitch (no fault of Matt's) and Matt handled the situation very professionally. I'll do business with Matt again.

Great guy, great electrician. Cares about his clients as people, not just jobs to get done. I can't recommend him highly enough. There are a lot of electricians with high rating and I'm sure they're merited but call Matt first. I'm glad I met him and he's got all of my electrical business from now on.

I had Roper Electric come out to my place a while ago for a small project I'd rather leave to the pros, and figured I'd do my due diligence and comment on my experience with these guys (sorry about the late review, Matt). Will someone please explain to me the level of discrimination against ceiling fans here in the San Diego area? Almost everywhere I have lived in San Diego, ceiling fans and overhead lighting seem to be a luxury. For a place with such wonderful weather and the amount of homes that don't come with a/c, you'd think a ceiling fan would be standard. Absolutely not. Not in San Diego, Mission Valley, East County, or North County! I installed the majority of the ceiling fans in my new home and contacted Matt to handle the one with the vaulted ceiling, and he did a phenomenal job. He was punctual and professional, which sets him apart from the competition. I will be calling him again for a few other projects in the near future for sure

I don't know what could be better!! Matt is a strict professional electrician. That means he is all about safety and doing things the right way. He was swapping out some light fixtures for us in the bathroom and discovered the old ones were put up with no box. So Matt put in new boxes. The fixtures look terrific and we know they are now safe. Plus, his customer service is amazing! He is great to work with, very friendly and personable. He keeps the customer involved every step of the way to make sure he is performing the work as the customer desires. He wants his customers to be happy. The work he performed for us was excellent. Matthew and his Assistant, Dominic, worked on a lot of electrical problems at my house, including ungrounded outlets, no ground fault interrupters in the kitchen, faulty wiring in the garage, and they installed a thermostat, a new outdoor light fixture, a new fluorescent light fixture, and additional outlets and light switches in the garage. They were efficient, and they really know what they are doing! They were also considerate of my house and furniture and very pleasant to me. I really appreciated their work, and will definitely call them if I need electrical work in the future
Called Roper Electric needing someone to come out the same day and repair outlets that were not working in our vacation rental. Matt met me there within an hour, was very professional and courteous and replaced a breaker within 20 minutes. He checked to make sure outlets were working and gave me some tips on space heaters. Excellent customer service and I will definitely use Matt the next time anything happens!
I recently used Roper electric and Matt came by. He checked out our electrical issue in the garage and made suggestions on how to resolve the issue and also tested out some outlets. I have used Roper Electric for jobs outside and inside of my home. Not only are they dependable, but affordable, and professional. Both jobs were done within budget and within the estimated time frame. I would recommend Roper Electric to any business or home in need of electrical work.

Matt was on time, worked quietly and left no trace of him being here except for a perfectly functioning new ceiling fan and wall switch. Friendly and efficient service. Price was very reasonable. Will only use him from now on. So nice to have a go-to guy for quality electrical work.
I had to find an electrician that was reliable, affordable, honest, and could do the job in a tight timeframe. I lucked out because Matthew was all of those things! I met my insurance company's deadline and the worked passed the city's inspection. Matthew gave me an estimate and he charged what he had estimated the work to cost.
