Established in 2006.
Alternative Air Heating & Cooling was founded in 2006 by Avnel Hogan. After working for a few companies in Tucson and Phoenix, he realized that he didn't like the way some of these companies were running their business and the direction they were heading. So he decided to try and do something to help out the people of his community in Maricopa and start his own business where he would be in charge of the people that would work for him, the workmanship of his employees, and the overall attitude of the company. He saw a growing community and decided he would start a business that could grow as the community grew as well. Graduating from The Refrigeration School, Inc. in 2000, Avnel began his career in Tucson working for Hamstra Heating & Cooling, a company that mirrored his good work ethics, honesty and integrity. Worst nightmare to have A/C break down on 110+ deg heat!

It was a Friday early morning and I was already making plans to stay with family since getting an HVAC guy to come out same day + on a Friday is near impossible. I Called Alternative Air after being referred by a coworker. Avnel picked up and I explained what my A/C was doing. He gave me the best and worst case scenario over the phone. Obviously, nothing was guaranteed until he diagnosed my A/C in person. He was able to squeeze me in same day for a check, explained the problem and quoted me a cost.

Avnel was on the way to Phoenix to pick up other parts, luckily he diagnosed my A/C before heading into town and was able to make a stop by the Carrier parts distributor to pick up the part I needed. Not only did he pick up the part, he drove back late afternoon, climbed in my 600 deg attic and had my A/C blowing cold within 12 hours of my first call.

I have been a customer since 2018 for fall and summer checks and great support. However I had prepaid our spring/summer check for this year and scheduled our check for the first part of June. They called and said they were sick and they would call and reschedule. No call so I called and no way to leave a msg, mailbox full. Was trying to stay supportive of the time and wait but I will move on to another company and learned my lesson of prepaying a service.

Just had an HVAC guy here to do a summertime check up on my A/C unit, before the unit has to work hard over the next few months. It was a good thing I had him out, he showed me melted plastic and melted wires he found inside the control box. That's replaced! Keeping Molly 'n me safe. Thanks, Evan of Alternative Air.

I've used this company a couple of times since moving in two years ago and have always been happy with their service and their prices have been fair. They come out the same day or next day of when I call.

The owner of this company was not able to make the first appointment that was scheduled weeks in advance. He rescheduled with us for 2 days later and when he did not show up he didn't even remember he made the appointment. We are going with a different more reliable company!

Alternative Air Heating and Cooling has been our AC/Heater repair company since 2007. One of our AC units went down last week (one of the hottest days of the year), so I called them Saturday night and tech Gage came out the next day on time, as promised, and fixed the AC unit.

Got nothing bad to say about them. They are an honest, fair and a local company. Next time you have issues with your heating or cooling, give Avnel and his guys a call.

Our A/C unit went out probably on one of the hottest days. This was not only an inconvenience but it was an expensive inconvenience. We called Alternative Air and they were able to come out the same day to diagnose the issue. They gave us a few options on a replacement unit and replaced it the very next day.

We had shopped around and these guys gave us the most fair and honest quote. But what stood out the most was how professional Avnel is. He made sure to check for leaks and made sure everything was in good working order before he left. We recommend Alternative Air to anyone looking for a good, reliable and honest HVAC company. My A/C stopped working, of course, on a Sunday morning. I called Alternative Air and they picked up the phone within a few rings (I had expected to have to leave a message and wait for someone to get back to me). They dispatched a technician (Ray) within a couple hours and diagnosed the problem quickly. The parts were not on the truck at the time, so he came and fixed the A/C on Monday morning without an additional service charge.

I was extremely impressed many aspects of the service: promptness, courtesy, friendly communications, ease of scheduling, reasonable rates & no extra charge for weekend service.

I will definitely call Alternative Air for any future issues with my HVAC.

On time technician w/professional bearing; polite, informative & pleasant to work with! Technician showed me what work was done on annual maintenance of my AC units. Had a tech come out for a seasonal inspection, everything went great. Guy showed up on time, and went about with the job. He also made some recommendations which I liked and the best part is the flat service fee. I will differently use these guys again.

Needing an Air Conditioning repairman equals the question Can I trust them? I live miles out of town, and too often when I hire someone, they simply don't show up and won't return my calls after they learn how far I am. Alternative Air kept me updated on their progress with their previous appointment and showed up exactly on time. Ten minutes later, the job was done. All I needed was a new capacitor.

I called to schedule a basic check up for my a/c as we recently purchased our property and weren't sure the last time it was serviced. The prices were fair, and they were able to come out literally one hour after i called and showed up right on time. The guys were very nice and professional and everything went really well. I'll definitely be calling them again if anything goes wrong with my units.

yes, yes, yes. true example of great and fast customer service, I had contacted another local AC company from yelp last week but they never showed up, today was my first available day off, so I've been miserable for a week now, I woke up found this company and based on reviews gave it a try, I called them at 8:22am, they tech Jamie showed up at 10:30 on the dot as promised, checked my attic, told me the problem and cost to fix and now I'm sitting on my couch with that beautiful cold air blowing at 11:30, a week of suffering resolved in a hour, my only complaint is that I didn't call them last week. .i will def use them again if necessary and recommend them, being a homeowner in Maricopa I'm happy to give a local company my business. . nice job

Our A/C stopped working, of course, in the middle of the summer. I read the Yelp reviews and decided to give Alternative Air a call first to see if they could come out. I was expecting to be told that we would have to wait a few days before someone could come out. I was pleasantly surprised to be told that a technician would be over in about 40 minutes due to a cancellation. The technician, Gage, arrived within the promised timeframe. Gage was courteous and helpful. He quickly diagnosed the problem and replaced the part and was all done within a half hour of arriving. I have never had issues with an A/C unit before so I'm not sure what everything costs but I did pay less than I expected. I would definitely recommend them and will call them again for any A/C issues.

A/C went out about 9 pm on a Fri night. Called Alternative Air at 8:00 am Sat. morning, left message; called a 2nd time, left another message. We were about to try someone else when they returned our call around 8:30 but could not come out until 3:30-4:00. They called at 4:15 pm and said they would be here in 10 min., and then arrived 30 min. later at 4:45 pm. It was just a capacitor, quick and easy fix, done by 5:00 pm - and charged $160!!!! That seems a bit excessive for a 15 min. fix, and that included the time he sat in his air conditioned truck while writing up the bill. Have no problem when earlier calls take longer than expected and arrive late for us, but don't call at 4:15 and say you'll be here in 10 min and don't show up for 30 min. You can get anywhere in Maricopa in 10-15 min. max. He should have said he'd be here in 30 min., not 10, and it would have been okay. He was courteous and professional otherwise, got the job done - but still think $160 for a 15 min. job is ridiculous. One other thing, they don't itemize the billing, just a flat $160. Did not break down how much for the part, how much for labor. I don't think the capacitor could have cost that much, and if you figure about $100 in labor for 15 min., that comes to $400 an hour labor charge, assuming with mark-up about $60 for the part. Think we might try someone else next time. Prices should be estimated before the work is done - sort of too late once they do the work and hand you the bill.
