It's a little long, but if you're looking at Preston Plumbing, Inc. for a big job, do yourself the favor and read. I'll leave a TLDR at the top for the lazy.
TLDR: Preston installed new tankless hot water heater, he botched it and ghosted me, leaving me without hot water during the first 4 weeks of winter due to shit weather and me being naïve.
I'm a new homeowner and not skilled with any DIY jobs. August of 2022 and my tankless hot water heater died and needed to be replaced.
The first few places I called couldn't do installations of tankless heaters. Preston was the first I found who said he could, so I went with him. He came out 2 or 3 days later, ripped out my old unit, then installed the new and was on his way. The new unit worked great, up until the middle of November that is. Our new heater started flashing exhaust blockage error codes.
Called Preston up and he came out the next day to take a look. He took off the front, turned on the water, checked a couple of hoses. He told me I need to go on top of my roof to look for any blockages that in my vent, and to text him with my findings. This was the last I heard from Preston.
Multiple calls and voicemails sent, never heard back. I just wanted hot water before it got really cold. That same week it started snowing :( These calls were over the course of 2 weeks. I figured he might be out of town for the holidays or taking a vacation. We're all people. Eventually I had to come to terms with the fact that I was being ghosted.
A few appointments with other professionals later and the problem was figured out: Preston had installed the tankless hot water heater too high up my wall which in turn pushed up the exhaust vent. This led to a buildup of condensation that turned into over a gallon of water in my pipes, preventing the exhaust from exiting. Additionally, Preston used all the pre-existing fittings and piping from the previous heater while the new plumber replaced all of the old fittings and piping.
Preston was nice, personable, timely, and seemingly knowledgeable. My only conclusion for him not returning any of my calls was that he didn't know what the issue was or that he knew it would cost him more money.
