We actually got referred to Ted and Cottage Electric by another electrical contractor who was too busy with commercial work at the time. We hired Cottage Electric to do a really large amount of both light fixture replacement and new lighting installation, primarily ceiling cans and two chandeliers.

1) Ted's bid was more than $2000 less than a competing bid we got from another company.
2) Over the course of two days Ted had one and sometimes two crews working on the house.  They got an enormous amount of work done and completed the job in two days.
3) The crews all seemed to work well together, which made the atmosphere in the house.   Everything was done according to spec.   And the crews were very good about cleaning up after themselves.

Can't say enough about the good job they did.  Would definitely use them again.

My wife and I hired Westhill to remodel our kitchen.  They subbed out the electrical work to Cottage Electric and billed us $7,700 to upgrade the kitchen wiring and add some can lights in the ceiling.  It was far more money than what was reasonable.

Cottage Electric's crew did sloppy work and used our subfloor as a garbage dump including fast food wrappers despite a garbage can being just feet away.  They did a blind plunge cut into our subfloor with a long sawzall blade and cut open a water pipe.  Luckily I was home and knew where the water shut-off valve was because they didn't.

Cottage didn't read our build plans correctly and placed the 240-volt oven outlet in the wrong location on the wall right between two cabinet sections.  Instead of fixing it properly with an inset metal outlet box, they just punched holes in the drywall and ran the bare wires out.  Later when I was installing the oven, I had to run to Home Depot to get the parts to install a proper outlet box per NEC requirements.

They would also not come back out in a timely manner to finish other appliance outlets.  I had to complete four other circuits myself for a wall cabinet, the refrigerator, microwave, and dishwasher to keep our project on schedule.

A full ONE YEAR later, I had to remind Cottage Electric that their electrical permit on our house was about to expire.  They sent two employees out to wrap up the final circuit for under-cabinet lighting under the sink.

They asked ME to stay home all day to meet with the electrical inspector because their workers were all tied up in the field on the day of inspection.  Prior to the inspection, I called Cottage's owner, Ted Thayer, to coordinate with him to make sure the inspection would go smoothly.  I also voiced some of our frustration with the lack of support over the past year.  Ted was rude and condescending.  When I tried to steer the conversation back to a productive tone, Ted's behavior worsened into what I can only describe as an elementary school level parroting back to me of what I was saying but in mocking tone.  It was truly bizarre.

Cottage's electrical work failed inspection due to loose ceiling wires not being secured.  There were also other code violations that the inspector didn't notice but I later fixed.

Please avoid this company.

Cottage Electric saves me again! I had a power issue that I spent over 6 hours trying to figure out. I finally called Ted at Cottage Electric and he sent Buck. Buck is the Man!! I've used them before so I knew they were more than qualified. Buck was able to find out the issue in a matter of minutes...I'm too embarrassed to say what was wrong but Buck got us powered up in no time.

We also had Cottage Electric install our custom dining room lighting. It was a hot mess and there was no way I was able to figure out all the wires or know how to install it. Buck was sent to install the light and it looks incredible. He did such a great job and managed to install it using existing power and not ripping apart walls. The lighting fixture is a stately conversation piece and it looks incredible.

I highly recommend Cottage Electric because they have always come through for our needs. I have used them 4 times in the last 3 years and no doubt will call upon them again. Thanks, Ted and Buck!

After our brass 80's era entry hall chandelier bit the dust - almost literally, it was ready to fall - we contacted Cottage Electric to install a new one.  Here's the scoop:

2 Electricians
2 Chandeliers - provided by us, installed.
4 Miscellaneous repairs, including addition of a new outlet.
2 Hours
1 Invoice of $400

Additionally, one of the chandeliers weighed 50 pounds and was a 2-story install.   Cottage Electric was on time, in line with their estimate, professional and provided strong work results.  Highly recommend.

Cottage Electric is an admirable company. It is so refreshing to find a company that has integrity, one that I can recommend to friends without hesitation. They did quite a lot of work for me in an older house we just bought, installing wiring for a remodeled room, putting in wired smoke detectors, and adding new fixtures in several spots. Sadly, an outdoor fixture they installed failed twice -- but this was a manufacturers issue I think. In any case, Cottage Electric came out to replace it both times at no charge. Hopefully this last one they installed today will be more reliable! The important thing is that I know these folks stand behind their work; if anything does go wrong, I am sure they will make it right. I have projects to be done this coming spring, and I am looking forward to having Cottage Electric do the work.
