My wife and I hired Westhill to remodel our kitchen. They subbed out the electrical work to Cottage Electric and billed us $7,700 to upgrade the kitchen wiring and add some can lights in the ceiling. It was far more money than what was reasonable.
Cottage Electric's crew did sloppy work and used our subfloor as a garbage dump including fast food wrappers despite a garbage can being just feet away. They did a blind plunge cut into our subfloor with a long sawzall blade and cut open a water pipe. Luckily I was home and knew where the water shut-off valve was because they didn't.
Cottage didn't read our build plans correctly and placed the 240-volt oven outlet in the wrong location on the wall right between two cabinet sections. Instead of fixing it properly with an inset metal outlet box, they just punched holes in the drywall and ran the bare wires out. Later when I was installing the oven, I had to run to Home Depot to get the parts to install a proper outlet box per NEC requirements.
They would also not come back out in a timely manner to finish other appliance outlets. I had to complete four other circuits myself for a wall cabinet, the refrigerator, microwave, and dishwasher to keep our project on schedule.
A full ONE YEAR later, I had to remind Cottage Electric that their electrical permit on our house was about to expire. They sent two employees out to wrap up the final circuit for under-cabinet lighting under the sink.
They asked ME to stay home all day to meet with the electrical inspector because their workers were all tied up in the field on the day of inspection. Prior to the inspection, I called Cottage's owner, Ted Thayer, to coordinate with him to make sure the inspection would go smoothly. I also voiced some of our frustration with the lack of support over the past year. Ted was rude and condescending. When I tried to steer the conversation back to a productive tone, Ted's behavior worsened into what I can only describe as an elementary school level parroting back to me of what I was saying but in mocking tone. It was truly bizarre.
Cottage's electrical work failed inspection due to loose ceiling wires not being secured. There were also other code violations that the inspector didn't notice but I later fixed.
Please avoid this company.
