Having worked in the Seattle area since the 1950's there isn't much we haven't seen. Certified in the latest plumbing materials and installations, with the knowledge that only 3 generations can provide. Quality service with a great price. With the knowledge learned in his grandfather's shop on Capital Hill, there isn't much Jay hasn't seen or isn't able to trouble shoot. While Jay is knowledgeable of old plumbing materials and practices, he is also trained and certified in new installations & techniques. Character is key in allowing someone in your home and being trustworthy is a long lost practice for most of todays plumbers. But not here at Above Plumbing & Contracting! We strive to provide that quality & reliable service that built Jay's grandfather's shop and has preserved his name to this day.

HISTORY

Established in 2007.
Jay Frees Plumbing on Capital Hill was founded in the 1950's. Jay worked in the shop of his namesake as a young boy learning the craft. He watched his father run the family business. In his late teens when his grandfather was nearing his 90's the business was sold along with the rights to the family name. Jay (the 3rd) started Above Plumbing and Contracting in 2007 after training with the local plumbing union to learn all of the modern techniques used today. With such a broad range of training and knowledge Jay is able to handle even the hardest conversion updates, new construction layouts & trouble shoot things that most plumbers can't begin to figure out. I found out about Jay maybe a decade ago. I forgot what it was for, but he left me with a good impression, so I kept his name + number.

Recently, we had a leaky supply line under our kitchen sink. texted Jay, and he helped us get it fixed again.

Jay is a solid individual, would use again, and continue to recommend him to friends.

I called Monday morning at 8:30 and left a message. Did not hear back. Texted a message Tuesday repeating my needs. Didn't hear anything until Tuesday night. Jay asked for my address and immediately I replied. Never heard anything so I said I really needed to hear from him or I was going with someone else. Wednesday he texted saying he couldn't do anything until Friday. Why didn't he tell me that on Monday!! Called Mike's Plumbing in Lynnwood and they were everything that I'd hoped Jay's company would have been. Communication is a big part of any business and for this reason I could not give a better score.

Simple no-hassle business. Very clear, very honest, and does a fantastic job with his craft. I'd call Jay again before any of the guys with radio and TV commercials. Their rates have always been ridiculous. Jay is up front about pricing and doesn't charge hidden fees like a fee just to show up at your place then another fee to do the work and fees for each part.

One price and he'll teach you exactly what he's doing when he does it so that you can learn for next time!

How often does this happen?! We just had the best ever plumbing/plumber experience with Above Plumbing. The owner is Jay and he is AMAZING. I recently got 3 quotes for a needed pipe repair, and not only was he the least expensive, but he gave me lots of options, talked about what I'd need now and also on down the road, was incredibly patient, down to earth, and just all around wonderful. Jay came referred to us by a friend who knows him personally, and has used him professionally, and I am so glad we used him for our repair. We plan to use him in the future when we re-plumb our whole place.
If you are looking for the best plumber, the whole package, you've found him. He's wonderful.

I have used Jay and Above Plumbing and Contracting for a few plumbing projects over the past 4 years.

First time, found him on Craigslist as it was a holiday weekend, my then girlfriend was out of town and I attempted to be a good samaritan and do some DIY projects around the house... Wouldn't you know it, there was a problem, and I couldn't remove the old pipe, and it happened to be a long weekend and all the plumbers were already booked up or unable to help me out of this log-jam I had created.

Jay came to the rescue, Jay is the real deal and a very fair plumber and a great guy to boot. Even helped me sort out some of the supply hoses which were corroded on my own- saving me a few bucks! Who ever heard of a PLUMBER HELPING ME SAVE A FEW BUCKS!!! AWESOME!

He replaced my bathroom and kitchen faucets with ease after I had broken the seal on the s-drain had become corrode by galvanic action of the two different steel materials, I was unable to remove them. He pulled out his sawzall and plasma cutter and repaired my near debaucle in a few hours. I've recommended him to my father as well, and dad was very pleased with Jay's work. That new hose-bibb comes in very handy when I'm washing my truck. Water runs, nothing leaks...

We had plumbing issue pop up on a Sunday. My husband isn't a plumber but is very handy. He ran into a mental block in regards to how to handle a plumbing scenario. I left a message for Above Plumbing on Sunday night and got a call back within an hour... and he doesn't even list that he work weekends! He told my husband exactly how to fix the issue and what tool to get at home depot. Many plumbers would take the $200 bucks to come out on a weekend and this guy was nice enough to walk us through it. I will certainly use him in the future.

I strongly recommend the services of Jay Frees (the Owner) of Above Plumbing. We hired him to complete a small laundry list of household plumbing and his service was excellent. He explained everything thoroughly, worked hard, cleaned up, and did a great job all around. He was a true professional throughout the entire job. I was worried about plumber sticker shock at the end of the day but I was pleasantly surprised to see his prices were very reasonable. If you want a good, honest, affordable plumber, call Jay.

Yes, you should call Jay Frees at Above Plumbing.
Last night the cold water faucet decided it was the right time to refuse shut off. I came to Yelp to look for a local plumber, as I prefer a small and local when I have the choice.
Jay returned my call within 20 minutes, and offered to walk me through what he thought the problem might be. I told him I would rather he stop by since I have very little handygirl capacity. He was at my house within a few hours, as promised. Jay diagnosed the problem in minutes and showed me the parts I would need and how to fix it myself. In addition to being really nice and helpful, he didn't charge me a dime for his time. I found the parts and fixed it easily, which I would never have been able to do without his help.
I would definitely recommend Jay to my friends and neighbors. I will absolutely call Jay next time I have plumbing issues.

I can't rave enough about this company! I've had 2 plumbing issues in the past few years. I had other companies bid the jobs. None were as competitive, honest and responsive as Jay Frees. I will no longer call for bids. Moving forward it will be one call to Above Plumbing and Jay Frees. A+++

Jay is absolutely fantastic. I highly recommend him.
He is quick to return phone calls, quick to arrive at the location and VERY good at what he does. We have a rental home in the Bothell area - he is our go-to-guy for any plumbing issues.

This was my first experience with Jay, and it could not have been better. I heard of him through Yelp, so I called and left a message on his voice mail, and within ten minutes he called me back. I had a major leak in my main water supply hose to the house, and it looked to under the driveway, or under my cement front porch. Jay had my best interests in mind when it came to the expense of what a major job like that might entail.

I had already called a company that specialized in boring under driveways and they were due to come out that morning to see if indeed it was under the driveway area. If they had not found it necessary to use there high end boring equipment, I would have used Above Plumbing & Contracting in a heart beat to make a repair to the main line. Jay will be my plumber from here on out for my normal plumbing needs.

I can't believe how helpful they were. I found them on Yelp when my bathtub started dripping. I called asking him to come out but instead he told me which part was most like the issue and instructed me on how to get a replacement and replace it myself. Sure enough he was right about what was causing it and its fixed.

Too bad the guy that owns this company didn't know I'd be writing a review. His service might have been good, if only he would have EVER called me back to schedule a time to come fix my plumbing problem. No word, ever. If you need service in a timely manner call someone else.

Jay has helped me several times...most recently installing a hot water tap outside my garage for washing cars. Each time he visits he leaves the house in better shape then when he got here. I would highly recommend Jay!
