Had a simple leaky faucet that I couldn't fix.  called Rotor Rooter and they responded quickly, took about 10 min for them to fix it and I was charged $289.   that evening it started leaking again, same faucet.  they sent a second plumber out to take care of it at no extra charge.  This guy said it couldn't be fixed and I needed a new fixture.  No explanation as to why the first guy didn't tell me that, no offer to add a fixture and apply my $289 (or at least offer something in the way of a discount).  so here I am, out $289 and in the same situation I was in before I called them.  I left a message with my complaint and asked for some relief in it but heard nothing back.  Wish I had read these awful reviews before I called them! UPDATE.  Was contacted and toId I would receive a refund. changed  rating from one star to three.  Will update again if the money isn't  added back to my credit card!

The plumber was great; came out on the weekend, diagnosed the sewer clog as being a city problem, made the call to get help from the city, no charge.  Fantastic plumbing service.
Terrible on the water clean-up side.  I had water on the bathroom floor, so the inspector (Zechariah Duffy, field supervisor) poked around and then went under the house.  Said I had water damage, and that I needed to act quickly (within 48 hours) or else mold would develop and negate homeowner's insurance coverage.  Wanted me to sign a contract with the assurance that he would help me with the homeowners insurance paperwork and all I would have to pay is my deductible.  The recommended work included tearing up the bathroom floor to dry out the sub-flooring.  When I asked for an itemized cost estimate, he said I didn't need to worry about the details because insurance would cover it.  I pressed for an estimate and he said $5,000-$10,000 .  He wanted to talk to my spouse too since we needed to act quickly (granted, I initially deferred to my spouse).  Red flags all around!!  We waited a week, had it inspected by someone else, and there is NO DAMAGE.  What a scam.

Told it was a free inspection including crawling under house where the problem was . The technician told us to go in the crawlspace with it would be an additional $230 for the estimate he was scared to go into the crawlspace how can you be a plumber and not want to go into a crawlspace do not use this company in technicians have no idea what they're doing

We have used Roto-Rooter for years and have always been pleased with their prompt, professional, and helpful service.  This morning we called regarding a problem with slow drains and water back-ups during laundry.  Shawn arrived within the hour!  He was polite, professional, and very helpful and informative.  My husband commented that he was very thorough.  He checked more than one line and addressed some problems (roots in lines) that we had been unaware of.  Roto-Rooter will continue to be our go-to service when we have plumbing troubles!

I moved in to a new home and wanted the washer and dryer relocated from a room in the kitchen into the garage. The house is on a slab so the cement had to be cut. I was scared to think about how much it would cost. I got 3 quotes and Roto Rooter was MUCH less costly than others. The job was done fast and professionally. Looks great! The workers provided excellent customer service when I had questions about the work being done.  Overall great experience! Thanks!

I Military and have been away for the past 8 months and rented out my house in Virginia Beach. Usually, I use my snake or rent one from Home-D when tenants flush something they should not have. On 3 occasions in 6months I have had to call Roto-Roter to clear my drain. $370, $290 and $190. On the second clearing, after some complaining for the same drain not being cleared completely, then being charged a month later for the same issue, I was refunded the money. On the last cleaning of the same drain, the plumber, Ernie pulled the toilet, camera'ed the drain and snaked it finding wipes clogging the cast iron pipping. He educated the tenants not to flush wipes in an iron drain system and reduced the charge from $ 300 to $190.  Although I've spent close to $600 to clear the same drain over a 6 month period, overall I rate them as upstanding and worthy of saving you in a pinch. I would call no other company besides Roto-Rooter in a crisis when away.

I called Roto Rooter on a Wednesday about a water leak that I thought was behind a wall (non-emergency).  They only had an evening appt available, so I scheduled an appt for two days later, between 10a and 2p.
On Friday, Roto Rooter called at 7 to let me know that there was a cancellation and they could have someone there at around 730am.  I accepted.
The plumber arrived on time.  Found the leak quickly.  Clearly provided my options on the repair and gave a very clear estimate.
The work was completed in the specified time period at the specified estimated cost.  I had a coupon from the roto rooter website which was taken off the estimate with no problems.  The plumber cleaned up after himself.  I'm very happy with the service I received.

Roto Rooter.... I will never use these guys!

Called at 1130AM. Got scheduled between 4-8PM that day. Ok no problem I'll wait. My water shut off for my toilet wouldn't turn off completely. So I figured I'll have them install the new toilet as well.

Well my guy arrived at I'll say 10:45 PM. Almost three hours past the deadline of the original time given.

My price I was given..... $500 bucks! Yep! 500 bucks to change a 25-30$ valve and install I toilet. I have a bad back so it would have helped me out a lot. I won't ever consider these guys again because in an emergency they ain't gonna cut it.

Only star I'll give them is the technician that showed up and was very nice and professional. That's because I can't give them a 0.

Called Roto-Rooter for a clogged main drain and they arrived onsite within an hour and had the drain cleared in less than 15 minutes. They do seem to be a bit pricey but they were quick to respond in this instance and completed the work quickly.

After chatting with the customer service and the manager of the Roto-Rooter they truly do care about their customers. They do read these reviews and will call you to find out why and what happened. they really do strive to make it right. I chatted with Ned Campbell and he remedied the situation. Thank you Ned. Roto-Rooter does back up their work and needs our customer input we provide so they can be a world class leader in the plumbing industry

I want to start off by saying the actual service and the man they sent to my house was/were good. the service tech had only been on his own for a week now. it took him nearly 7 hours to snake the main sewer drain. At one point the snake had went up my vent pipe and was beating around on my roof. Now i want to make clear that i had no exterior clean out , so they had to pull my toilet up and snake through the toilet pipe, Why this cost an additional $100.00 i dont know, but it does. So people make sure if your drains are stopped up make sure you have an exterior clean-out. This technician had to call for back up after hour number (2).
So after many attempts to snake the main line he finally got it to go into the main line. Then the other guy shows up with a drain camera to show me from the street city clean out that water was beginning to flow. finally we seen the snake come past the clean out and water was flowing again.
Luckily i had printed off one of the roto rooter coupons for -$40 off the bill. My main gripe is the clean up that wasnt done. After they had left i spent hours cleaning the sludge spray, dirty sludgy hand prints, and other nasty stuff off from the bathroom door, the handle on the bath tup the cabinets . this was nasty and although my bathroom had water on the floor and stunk when they arrived. IT DID NOT HAVE FECES ON THE WALLS , DOORS , CABINETS AND EVEN THE CEILING.
someone needs to train the guys how to clean up properly. they are not licensed plumbers just technicians. and they need to produce  X-amount of work each day or they dont make a real paycheck.

My review is solely for the water restoration specialist krista young. We ended up not using thier services because our insurance company will not reimburse us if we use roto-rooter. Krista arrived at our home an hour after we called and quickly helped us find the damages in our home, call our insurance company and took pictures. She was extremely helpful.

While visiting My son in Norfolk there was a sewer backup issue at his home. Shawn and his helper responded quickly to our need for help. They showed up at the house within 40 minutes of our call, and both were courteous, professional and took the time to explain what they were going to do. They fixed the problem in a short period of time, then explained and showed us what had been done and what we needed to do for go forward maintenance. They were neat, cleaned everything up just the way they found it. Oh, did I say they were courteous and professional? Hopefully we don't have the issue again, but if we do you can rest assure that we will call Roto-Rooter again.

When our sewer backed up over the weekend we selected them because they did not charge an additional fee for a weekend call.  The serviceman they sent was nice kid but very young and inexperienced.  The estimate was $320.00 to snake the sewer line. After six hours on Sunday and one broken toilet later, we were told the manager would arrive the next morning at 8. On Monday morning (had to take off of work) he first checked the city clean-out and then looked for a clean-out up by the house but could not find a clean-out at the house.

The choice was to cut a hole in the sewer line, snake it and patch it for the original estimate of $320.00 or they could install a clean-out for $950.00. I thought it was high but went with it deciding that the first option would need to be addressed eventually and with Thanksgiving around the corner and company coming it need to be done. When they wrote the new ticket, it had the new estimate of $950.00, and added a $90.00 additional charge to clean the sewer line. I told him to drop the $90.00 which he did.  After about 4 hours the job was done. They did replace the toilet but I ended up installing it.  Not the greatest experience with a company by any means.

12-14-15 The manager called me, concerned that the crew did not re-install the toilet, and refunded us the cost of installing a toilet.  I appreciate that they did follow up from the original review which was originally rated at two stars, and tried to make amends to the initial service call.

I do not recommend this company at all.  I scheduled an appointment for an estimate (which I was told was free); the first day they were supposed to come out the technician was 5 hours late.  The guy also tried to charge $90 after I was told it was a free estimate.  I called to verify the free estimate and told that it in fact was free.  Now today I get a call to schedule an appointment for next Friday after I was told the technician would be able to come out and that it would cost me $90.  If you like getting the run around use this company, otherwise stay away!

After leaving my last review I was contacted by a Roto-Rep. He was able to compensate me for the lack of work that was done and tried to explain that this situation was not the SOP. After talking on the phone for about twenty minutes I felt that there was a sincere attempt to fix the situation.

Nice service from Roto-Rooter yesterday.  I called at 10:30AM, was given a service window of 11AM - 3PM.  They called a couple hours into the time to confirm they were still tracking my service and said plumber would be in touch soon.  He was.  Ended up having to clear main sewer line - $$$ but they gave me the quote up front and based on my research it was competitive.  Work was done cleanly and quickly - nice guys (Wayne 108, Mike).

Shawn Prunty and his trainee came to our house following a sewer back up into our house.  Shawn and his trainee were quick, efficient, and courteous, as professional as they could be.  I would call them again in a heartbeat.  Shawn explained everything as they were fixing the issue and clean up after the repair.

I called Roto Rooter to help unstop my bathroom that was unusable. The tub and toilet were both stopped up. I had another company come out and they quoted me $6000+ to fix the problem. The gentleman that came out was wonderful. When I told him what was going on with the drains he responded confidently and enthusiastic. He knew what to do to fix the problem. After snaking the drain from the front pipe in front of my house, the problem was resolved. It took him maybe 20 mins. That included clean up. He was awesome. He didn't even have to get on the roof. He checked everything out thoroughly to make sure problem was resolved and guaranteed his work and also left me with drain cleaner to use routinely. The charge was less than $300 and the work was done on a Sat. am. I highly recommend this company!!!

Stay away from this company. I called a plumber out to check my crawl space because of the smell of mildew. I had a sewage leakage that was fixed over 6 months ago but had not idea that the ground was not treated. They told me to come out and give an estimate that it would be free. The guy said he would charge me $90 but walked away with $75 after negotiating. I had a list of things he said I needed done: new insulation because my current insulation was falling; sewage cleanup and a small leak in a pipe on the ground. I called the company back to do at least the sewage cleanup and the lady said her company will either do all the issues that was identified or none. I am very disappointed and I feel like that's their way of trying to get over on you or more money out of you.

Worst plumbing service ever! Came out and gave a really high estimate. Labor is $230 an hour for service that truly sucks. The plumber fixed the copper pipe bit after he left I have several leaks in his new fittings. The main leak which I found for myself was the faucet hose but now there is a total of four leaks. I will never do service with this company again!!!!

I hired Roto rooter to fix my sewer line. At first we had alittle misunderstanding but I would have to say that Mr. Ned Cambell provided me with the best customer service I had ever experienced and saved the day by sending back his best crew led by Sean and fix my plumbing problems in no time! I am now a happy customer.

They scheduled a plumber to come between 10am-12 pm, but it's now 1:20pm and no one has shown up. Just received a call that someone would be here in the next 30 minutes. But I rearranged and rescheduled other things today so this is a huge inconvenience especially if it has to be rescheduled due to their lack of good service and ability to stick to a schedule.

Two weeks ago my husband called roto-rooter because our bathrooms were clogged, some came out took the toilets put and put a camera down the toilet his camera got stock been there for 2 weeks and now I can't use my kitchen sink and the crew space has a lot of water and when me and my husband called to get that out they giving us excuses so we called a different plumbing company that plumber left the pipe open for rotor-rooter so is easier for them to get the camera for that we pay 857 dollars all that I'm asking to rotor-rooter is to reimburse me and to fix the problem that they caused. we called them again to rotor-rooter and they sent 2 different technicians none of them want to get that out because we need to pay them 2,500, I'm not paying for something I didn't cause. Now my husband is trying to get the camera out himself because the technician and his manager say that they don't need the camera is a piece of trash.

So please don't get service with them

I do not recommend. They were messy. I was told I didn't have to move anything, then watched as water poured down all over my stuff. Felt as though I was over charged. Then Six weeks later I notice the leak is still there. It wasn't even fixed. Terrible service.

Called Roto-Rooter as my husband broke off an auger trying to clear the drain. They came out very quickly and attempted to removed the auger. The plumber told me the only way it could be removed was by breaking up my slab foundation and they would send out a camera operator to give me a better view.
Camera guy came out later and showed me what he said was a collapsed line with dirt in the line coming in from it. He proceeded to tell me I needed to have my entire inside sewer and outside sewer replaced to the tune of $14,800. He told me he could get started in a few days and get me financing immediately.
I was waiting for some money to come in fully believing them and my friend encouraged me to get a second opinion. In the mean time my husband was able to get the auger out (without jacking up the floor). The second opinion put a camera down and found the real problem. A sponge. One of my children must have flushed it down. He showed me my entire line afterwards when it was cleared, no cracks, no collapsed areas, the pipes are perfectly fine. I don't know if the technicians who came out where just so bad or were trying to scare me into unnecessary problems but they were going to tear up half my house, walls, my shower, and my yard for no reason.

Just received bad service from this company --both technician and manager were horrible.  Received service back in February and the technician only snaked the outside outlet and left.  My dad insisted he checked inside to see if there's anything wrong with the sink and tub as the water also leaked to the carpet somehow and the technician refused to check and stated, that's a whole-bother issue and left.  A month later, we encountered the same issue and the technician now finally went in and discovered the problem inside and charged separately for it.  If only he had assessed the issue at hand the first time we complained, the problem could've been fixed then.  These people just want to take advantage and have several trips to be able to charge more instead of fix them initially to avoid other issues.  They used to be our go to plumbers but never again.  Will definitely go against recommending these people.

Also, received a call from the manager who had a very irritable tone and insisted that the technician is very thorough and that we should just agree to disagree and kept pointing out the huge discount they have given us... basically to be grateful.  Apparently their protocol is just pick a spot to fix and let the rest go to shit so they can be contacted again.

Came out within 2 hours as promised, free estimate as promised, the $315.00 to snake a drain was high I though but what is one to do when they are standing right there ready to clear the drain. Gave a 6 months warranty on the work that it wouldn't clog up again, I should hope not!!!
he was very friendly and informational about trying to make sure it never happened again.

Roto rooter came through again for me as far as fixing my problem. The plumber was nice and proffessional. They missed on a 5 star due to having to re schedule for the next day and not giving a very considerable discount (15%) for the inconvienience.

It was easy to schedule my home visit online, my technician Shawn arrived early (called first to make sure that was alright!) and then spent time explaining all that he did.  He found the problem was on the City side of sewer and told me exactly what to say to ensure a quick response from them.  Within 1 hour, I had a City technician arrive and it went exactly the way I anticipated because Shawn was so thorough.  Roto Rooter was punctual, courteous and a very calming presence at a time when I thought we might be looking at potentially thousands of dollars to repair our system.  Thank you!

Ernie Smith was the technician who came out just 2 hours after I called.  He removed the sand and other things clogging my daughters' shower in just a few minutes.  He was very polite and professional.  The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is because I felt like the service was too pricey.  I understand that they came out on short notice, but I paid $159.00 for a job that took just 15 minutes; and that was after Ernie knocked $100 off the estimate of $259.00.  I'm a lawyer, and that's 3 times MY hourly rate.
