Our guest bathroom toilet was not working so we knew it was time to replace the internal parts.  We contacted S&D on a Saturday and we were happy they were able to come out the same day.  Our technician Esteban Corral explained in detail what needed to be done and provided an estimate and made the necessary repairs in a timely manner.  We would recommend S&D for any future plumbing issues.

Firstly, I want to congratulate this business for its stellar communication. They kept in contact with me every step of the way. They were able to schedule my repair on a weekend, which was deeply appreciated.

I live out of state. This property will be our retirement home sometime in the next decade, but right now we have a tenant. The lack of hot water was an urgent issue and not something that I could wait to get several quotes before acting on.

Next, I had concerns about the scope of the work once the technician arrived. This property was built in 2020. The technician offered the opinion that my water heater was old and that it was typical to see this kind of breakdown given its age. I'll admit this is my first experience with a three-year-old water heater in its death throes. Maybe the builder installed sub-standard equipment, but I felt uneasy with the assessment. Especially once it was strongly recommended that I replace the unit. The quote given was $3300 for a new water heater and installation. It's a small home--less than 1500 square feet--I can't imagine the water heater was specialized enough to merit what seemed to be an inflated price.

I was cautioned that by fixing only the valve more parts could break during the repair. It was a reality I would need to accept beforehand. I did.

Luckily, the work was completed and the valve was replaced without further damage. The entire cost amounted to the originally quoted $513 to repair the valve. I'm told the water heater is now functional.

I was provided pictures of the work and an itemized invoice. They accommodated me and fixed the appliance in a timely fashion.

S & D PLUMBING was hired to clear a bathroom commode which required removal of the commode to get at the blockage.  The technician who arrived to service the problem brought with him an assortment of equipment which at best had seen better days.  He moved to do what was requested of him and then we got into a semantics discussion of what CLEAR means.  Unfortunately, this plumbing company defines CLEAR as simply restoring some flow.  Not actually removing the obstruction.   He spent a bit of time scoping the piping to determine what the obstruction was.   He then proceeds to secure a ROTO ROUTER to remove the obstruction.  This is what I thought I was paying for.  Unfortunately, the ROTO ROOTER was broken, NOT USABLE.   Sans, having the proper equipment he used the scope to restore the flow but did not solve the basic problem.  REMOVAL OF THE OBSTRUCTION.   He then informed me that we should not use the commode since it would most likely block up again under normal usage.   Having restored the drainage (never having cleared the blockage) he collected his equipment, received payment and left; it was evening.    The next morning, I called the office to discuss the work done.    They acknowledged that it was a problem and sent out the technician again (with some marginally workable equipment) to complete the job.   He explained that there would be an additional charge to complete what needed to be done (CLEAR THE DRAIN OF BLOCKAGE).  After a bit of discussion regarding exactly what my expectations were, we agreed on an additional sum for him to complete the work.  To complete the work, he had to re-prep the area, remove the commode, set up his equipment etc.   This was time consuming and replicated what he did the previous day.  In a nutshell, 3 hours later and a day late he accomplished what could have been accomplished initially.   The cost to me for removal of the obstruction was about $2000.   We are a couple in our 80's, do I think I was taken advantage of YES.

I do not normally respond to requests for review of service; however, I think that any future customer needs to be aware of who and what they are dealing with.   THIS IS NOT A COMPANY I WOULD RECOMMEND FOR PLUMBING SERVICE.

I had a water heater pilot light would not stay lit. S & D went out and wanted to charge $250 to diagnose the problem. The water heater is 10 years old so I asked for a quote for a new one. His quote was $4300 to replace a 40 gallon Natural gas water heater($650 at homedepot).  I told him to get out that is over twice what it should cost!  I am a Property manager and have had many water heaters replaced over the lst 20+ years.

Do not trust these guys they apparently thought I was as novice that did not know what a water heater should cost.

This company is very expensive. Nearly $500 just to come look at and diagnose the problem. Found another company nearby. They were astonished at how much we'd been charged as were my relatives. Also, very sicky sweet customer service (How can we make you smile today?Give me a major break). I wish I'd called more companies first. PS - we were NEVER offered an estimate. Judging by the defensiveness of the owners' replies I believe they well know they are ripping people off and just don't care. Watch, they'll probably write a highly reactionary response, if they respond. Again, VERY EXPENSIVE!!!

I am BEYOND happy I chose S & D for this job because holy moly was it a fiasco and I doubt most plumbing companies would have had the patience and kindness that they did (specifically Noah).

Austin Water showed up at my door saying the leak at the street is coming from us confirmed. I said what do I now? He said Call a plumber! Cool.

I chose S & D initially because they are family owned and had great reviews.

First Raul came out to try and locate the leak, he saw the dirt was soggy not far from the street/meter and figured at that T was where the leak was. However, after a bit he hit rock (travis country, go figure) and so we had to get two quotes: one that was not to take time to locate the leak and just replace the entire line and the other for an hourly rate with the right tools to deal with the rock to locate the leak. My husband and I also felt the leak was right there and not far so chose to pay the hourly to locate the leak.

The next day Raul and Noah came out to start digging up that rock. Noah had me come out one hour later with some not so great news but he did a great job explaining the whys AND I'm super glad he only spent an hour digging. They got the point where they thought the leak was and the water was coming FROM BELOW MY PIPE! Ouch. So, it likely means the leak is between that point and the house and could take hours to keep digging. We decided to replace the line at this point.

Phew, okay. So the following day - seriously they were so fast and the office staff was super kind and nice on the phone keeping me aware - the digging crew came and dug up the entire line. With the dig, the pipe burst so the water was shut off a little earlier than planned, but we get it.

Noah later came to the door and once again was sad news and he was super perplexed.... Ma'am, so your water has been off for over 5 hours and I don't know how to say this but the leak is Austin Water's leak. WHAT?!?! I was furious at Austin Water.

The line was already all dug up and since it broke digging up we replaced the entire line. This was Thursday. August water said they'd be out that late afternoon/evening and so Noah even sat outside out house waiting for them. They ended up cancelling last minute and said they'd be out Friday.

Friday came and went.... our street has a lovely stream coming from our yard and neighbors are loving it - said no one ever. Then they said maybe the weekend, nope. Early next week, NOPE. In fact, my neighbor came out and yelled at Noah like a crazy lady and he handled it so gracefully.

Austin Water FINALLY shows up Tuesday and Noah came back out since the inspector inspected the new line. They started filling back in the trench to clean up and of course gets rained out (poor guys). So they still didn't take the final payment since the job was not 100% done and came back out today to finish it. They even took the pieces of bush they had to cut off for the job. AMAZING.

I can't stress enough again how awful of a situation this was and how EVERYONE was kind, empathetic, informative and helpful.

100% GO WITH S & D!!!!

I woke up to soggy carpet, my husband and I started cutting into our almost new living room carpet to discover a wet foundation and a soggy carpet pad. I immediately started googling foundation leaks etc. For the next few hours I was repeatedly told NO, no and no. Then I stumbled on S & D plumbing. From the first encounter on the phone to later that same day, S & D has been so helpful, polite, and extremely professional. Melvin and Carson diagnosed the issue and worked OT to make sure we had hot water for the coming days. Melvin and Carson both reminded me of the old days of excellent service, reliable and honest work. I highly recommend this company if you are looking for a reliable, knowledgeable and professional company for any foundation leak identification and repair. They restored my faith in GOOD people and have left a fantastic lasting impression!!! S. Hickey

RIP OFF!! The company charged $660+ to pull and auger our toilet initially at the end of May. I called a couple months later when there was a leak from the base of my toilet again (which they reset and sealed themselves the first trip) and they GUARANTEED A FREE TRIP unless further repairs were needed to be made, not related to original job. They pulled the toilet, said the concrete needed to be chiseled before they could replace the flange and reset and that it would be $1000 for that and $3850 more if that didn't work to replace the concrete slab. They also said I would need a camera run for $500 and hydro-jetting for $1100. After telling them it was fine and I would figure something else out, they charged me $225 for a diagnostic fee since they hadn't caused the concrete damage under the toilet. The concrete was the same as it was the last time they reset the toilet and there were no new repairs made from the trip. I went to Lowe's and got a new flange and ring and reset the toilet myself for $30, which saved me potentially $4820. It hasn't leaked from the base anymore because that wasn't the problem.

I then called and hired a plumber with Mr. Rooter who investigated the issue, found out there was pipe breakage behind the house and potentially roots that their auger wasn't able to get rid of. He was here for an hour but I paid $0 (would have only been a $29 trip fee and $90 for the augering) since they didn't solve the issue and they're coming back tomorrow with the proper tools to fix at a way lower cost than S&D.

Lesson learned the hard way, call Mr. Rooter instead!

We are in the process of selling our home. There was a minor issue with the water pressure. Our realtor suggested S&D and we were very happy with the results. The technician (Dustin) came on time and walked me through the issue. Thankfully it was one simple valve to be replaced. He took care of it that day and worked to put the yard back as neatly as possible.

The pricing was fair and the work was done well - the issue is resolved. As well, the next day the office staff called to check up with me and be sure I was satisfied. That is a nice touch.

Definitely recommended.

We needed to do a full repipe of the ground floor, and a friend recommended S&D. I'm so glad they did. Their bid was not the cheapest, but it was in the same ballpark as the others. The deciding factor for me was the demeanor and knowledge that Melvin showed on the initial visit to prepare the quote. Once the job started, his team of Nick and Lorenzo did a fantastic job - Nick kept me informed every step of the way and they were very thorough and clean in their work.
As a final touch, they came out on Friday before the big freeze to hand-fill the trench for the new water inlet. This combined with the great job Nick did on insulation, helped keep our pipes from busting.
S&D are definitely my go-to guys for any future plumbing needs.

Flex line replacement cost close to $600. Try to up sell a replacement of the whole water heater instead of a flex line repair that would cost over$3,300. Testing fee cost over $350/hour. Very expensive. Not honest. Bad diagnoses where unnecessary repairs not needed in order to update. I suggest to the owners to change their business model. I guess these plumbers have quotas to get a percentage of the sale that would cost your dime where it encourages unhonesty in up sell. They don't really guarantee their work either. When a call back is warrant they make up something else in order for you to spend more instead of just owned their own mistake and do the right thing. I do not recommend them.

I was truly impressed by S&D. We had so much going on when we called them. Our house was in the process of being sold and we had a leak that needed to be fixed. We called another plumbing company to locate the leak and fix it but they caused an even bigger leak outside. We then called S&D and were so happy that they were able to come to our home (we had to be out of our house in less than we week because our home sold).

They came the next day and assessed the work, they called diggers to locate the leaking pipe, and worked on the issue till 1am.

We were so grateful, especially because we have small kids (one new born and a toddler) so we really needed water in the house.

I highly recommend them.

Honestly there's more to this story about how they want above and beyond! We called them so many times and I'm sure they were tired of us but they were consistently amazing. Their customer service is simply Grade A!

I arranged for a troubleshooting call to satisfy a home warranty company. Given the previous kudos, they were assured the business of likely replacing a water softener as well as a tankless water heater and certainly repair of both.

They said he called and the dispatcher called.  I had no record of a phone call and certainly no record of a voice mail since both the cell and the landlines transcribe to emails and provide an audio file of the message.

First, the dispatcher said he showed at 7.40AM.  Then the owner says he showed at 8.45AM.  My first web access was at 8.40AM per history.  I was certainly close enough to hear the door.

The guy showed up but I never heard a door knock from only twenty feet from the door while working at my computer. I heard the trash and recycling pickups at the mailbox but not the plumber knocking.  He left a doorknob hanger that ironically states, No Dispatch Fee which is silly to say for reasons I'll explain.

Today, I'm then advised there would be a $275 troubleshooting charge to provide an estimate to the warranty company.  I was not advised of this when making the appointment.  That's a MUST KNOW piece of information in this scenario.  That is likely not a reimbursable expense from the warranty company.  New water softeners start at only  twice that amount.

This is not a great way to start with what could have been a lifetime customer. Their performance today would have sealed my decision to use them in a complete home remodel to be done in two years.

They blew it.

Very happy with S&D Plumbing and the two servicemen, Jorge and Lorenzo. They quickly solved the problem and did complimentary check of water heater, water pressure and water softener. Their website has several coupons and I had $50 deducted from the bill.

S&D Plumbing told me that their work would require 2 to 3 days but they took 14 days mostly due to working only about 5 hours per day and due to their work error which required an extra day or two.  Due to the pandemic, I was forced to use my backyard as my toilet during this time.

Also, despite my asking them several times to use a trap under dirt from the 22-foot tunnel dug under my house they did not do so.  Therefore, when removing the dirt, they removed much of the rock from my rock garden and tore through the weed barrier thus causing weeds to now appear.  Finally, they dumped the remaining tunnel dirt and my garden rocks over my back fence.  In writing, they claimed the delay was due to removal of rock rather than dirt under my house, but I produced a photo showing the dirt pile with no rock.

I paid half of the $20,000 upfront now their attorney demands full payment of the other half or they will sue me for full payment along with attorney and court fees.  Despite the damage they did, they refuse to reduce the invoice amount and have never offered an apology.

Bobby from S & D Plumbing was at my home this past Tuesday responding to a dire situation --our front yard had essentially turned into a marsh. I'd been referred to S & D Plumbing earlier that morning by an irrigation company (Living Proof Sprinkler) whom I'd initially contacted about the problem. As the scope was ultimately a plumbing (and not an irrigation) issue, we were urged by Living Proof's owner to contact S & D right away, and he even helped us place the call to ensure someone would be out ASAP. Bobby arrived within a few hours and fixed the leak the same day.

We appreciate the thorough and professional service delivered by S & D Plumbing and highly recommend the company. Without question, we will rely on them for any future plumbing needs. Thank you so much!

After our fiasco with Kinsey Plumbing Services (if you're interested, please read my review), I was determined to find an alternative against having our driveway demolished just so they can have access to our main sewer line due to two separations (per Kinsey's inspection). Upon doing a lot of online research, I found that another option was to perform a trenchless sewer repair which our plumber from Kinsey never even mentioned. Since our homeowners insurance and home warranty denied coverage for the repair, I wanted to find a company that knows what the hell they're doing and be damn good at it too. Enter, S & D Plumbing...

At first, I had my reservations because my husband initially contacted S & D Plumbing via their Live Representative online chat to set up an appointment for an estimate. As instructed, someone was supposed to call him back. A week goes by and no one called, so he contacted their Live Representative again. Once more, another week passed and nobody calls. Does this thing even work?! Feeling frustrated and wanting to give them one more chance, my husband preferred to talk to an actual human being this time and called S & D Plumbing instead. Let that be a lesson learned to you, folks.

Warren charged us $295 for the trenchless diagnostic service and an additional $35 for the cleanout due to another clog that formed in just a few weeks. Surprisingly, the diagnostic found that there wasn't two separations underneath the driveway as previously stated by Kinsey's plumber, but only one located next to the city sewer tap near the street. After all things considered, this was fantastic news to us because it saved us tons of money had we gone with Kinsey Plumbing to do the repair. To note, S & D Plumbing has much better equipment and a more modern diagnostic camera (just sayin'...). An estimate for $2140 was provided to us for the repair, which never increased when the job was finally finished.

Garrett and Cody flawlessly completed the repair in only two days and did such a fantastic job. We're very pleased with their work and absolutely will not hesitate to enlist S & D again in the future for anything plumbing related. Also, we joined their Customer Loyalty Plan for an additional peace of mind since we realized the limitations of our homeowners insurance and home warranty coverage.

Be careful here; the prices they charge are way out of line. I had them come out to repair/replace a garbage disposal and was shown prices ranged from ~ $230 to repair and replacement fees starting at $450 if I bought the annual subscription option to the company's service and it was, I think, $600+ without.

So I called someone else and was given a quote over the phone for $250 for the same HP disposal (new, installed). I also called a local handyman and got a quote of $90 labor if I provided the disposal (the .75HP ones seem to run about $150).

Get a competitive quote or two before you hire these folks.

They come across as great guys. Very professional and forthcoming. My only issue with them is that they peddle a bs solution that has no scientific validity. That's why I deducted two star and I might be slightly wary working with them!
This is what they are marketing. Read up reviews and check the science if you have sometime.

Dan,

Thanks for taking the time to respond. After the bad experience with your company I hired Accurate Leak and Line to come out and do an inspection. I explained the same details over the phone to their receptionist and asked for a price. She quoted a price. I paid the price. It was very easy.

I'm disappointed you're accusing me of trying to get free work. I asked your receptionist twice what i can pay her. She said nothing. 3 days later your plumber (who was a good dude) showed for the appointment said it would be a bit under $1k for under 2 hours of work to investigate the plumbing issues. He quoted this price before getting out of truck. Not sure why we couldn't have discussed that when i asked S&D for a price. It's perfectly fair for a customer to get a sense of pricing on a $900 job before beginning work. I wasn't bothered by your pricing. I was bothered by how much the price changed between my 2 phone calls and the truck pulling up in driveway. If I'm having this much difficulty getting firm pricing for the 2 hours to write up a bid, imagine how much trouble I'd have actually doing a job for a set price.

I think your response speaks volumes about how you treat your customers but thanks for taking the time to respond (not intended to sound snarky. Many companies wouldn't bother replying).

Aside from the long wait, which we'll blame on the Northern weather waltzing in like your drunk uncle at the family reunion stumbling into the closet he thought was a bathroom, the guys who came to fix my burst pipe were excellent. I paid S&D Plumbing $595 for an incomplete leak detection inspection. I knew I had major sewer line leaks under my slab after getting my house leveled. Both sewer exit lines failed hydro-static tests after the leveling. I wanted to get a leak isolation report from a reputable company so I could collect repair bids based on the report.

The receptionist who booked my appointment said the inspection would be $310 with a $40 coupon. She did not mention that only covered the first 1.5 hours of the inspection. Each additional hour is $285. I didn't hear about the additional charge until Melvin arrived at my house for the inspection.

After 2.5 hours, Melvin was only able to complete isolation for the first floor sewer lines. We did not discuss continuing another hour for an additional $285 to isolate the second line. I wanted the experience to be over. I'm guessing Melvin did too.

The report he submitted called for two access holes, 35 feet of tunneling, and only addressed fixes for the first floor. I used that information to get competitive bids. The three other companies I contacted came in at least $5,000 lower than S&D's bid. The company I chose offered to complete isolation on the second line for free because they knew I already overpaid S&D for the initial inspection.

The complete job ended up requiring 44 feet of tunneling. Even with the additional 9 feet, I paid $3,300 less than S&D's quote for 35 feet.

I would not recommend S&D Plumbing, especially not for major repairs. From my experience, their pricing is not competitive.

On a lighter note, Melvin was knowledgeable and professional. He was the only bright spot in this whole experience.

Our hot water heater leaked in the attic. Who puts those in the attic?! Anyways I called right before Thanksgiving spoke with 1 person and had an appointment for later that day and the next. They wanted to check for a warranty and if we needed to utilize the warranty they didn't want to waste a day. They were upfront about options, pricing. I even was sent a link to track our service person and see how close they were to arriving at our house. They have an amazing rewards/membership program that we signed up for and Keith checked all of our plumbing lines and as he was cleaning up and washing his hands he fixed the kink in our sink faucet!!!!

Poor communication even after spending $25,000 on repairs with them in the last couple of years since buying our home. Very disappointing. We have water damage in the same area they previously worked on, a technician came out to inspect and told us he'd follow up with the report and recommendations. No follow up at all. Subsequent emails ignored.

We called S&D Plumbing for help dealing with a leak in our yard. We received a notification call 25 minutes in advance confirming that it was still a good time for them to come out (which was very nice) and then Jason Radford arrived as promised. They even sent a photo of the technician so we would know who to expect, as well as a link to a Truck Tracker app so we could see exactly how far away the tech was. That was excellent!!

Jason explained the potential costs upfront and then started digging. He quickly isolated the source of the leak which was unfortunately related to the sprinkler system which S&D does not currently handle. He still made sure to show me very clearly where the leak was and even shut the water to it so it doesn't continue leaking while we wait to get it repaired. He gave me the option of either leaving the work area exposed or refilling with dirt. Since we hope to get it addressed soon, I chose to leave the area exposed so he set up a caution tape barrier around the area for safety. Even with the hole, the area still looks tidy with dirt piled nicely on a plastic tarp and sod piled to the side to be reused.

He then did a couple plumbing maintenance checks and made recommendations based on the results. He was friendly and polite and even covered his shoes with booties when he came into the house.

I'm just disappointed this wasn't an issue that S&D could address because we know we can trust their work. We have been using S&D Plumbing since May 2016 and have been very happy with the service overall and the techs that have come out each time. I'm really hoping we don't have many plumbing issues pop up but it is nice to have a reliable and trustworthy company to call on should the need arise.

Response to Dan D.:  Thanks for your comment. What is S&D's policy about calls to downtown residences?  Do you make them?  What are your plumbers' expectations about parking?

Note: I did not want to give a rating since I am responding with a question but can't post unless I rate.  I am neutral right now on S&D and their service to downtown residences.

Great service, reasonable prices, weekend support.

S&D did a great job on a complicated plumbing issue I had, that made sure it was done right and that I was satisfied with their solution.

Had a bit of a plumbing emergency that S&D was able to help me get fixed. They were very understanding of the fact that the leak at our home left us without access to running water, and worked to get things squared away as quickly as possible. The price was fair and the work was done right. Everyone that I interacted with, from the folks that answer the phones and handle scheduling to the guys that came out to inspect the problem and then fix it, were all courteous, professional, and very helpful. They did an excellent job of explaining what we needed to do and even walked me through why their quoted price was less than competitors for the same work and materials. Couldn't ask for much more. Very happy to have found my plumbing company for any future problems.

I scheduled an appt for hot water heater flushing, they called last minute to reschedule appointment and said they had to see someone else prior to my appointment. I scheduled appointment again, they again cancelled last minute and offered an emergency slot on Saturday. They no showed on Saturday, offered to come out on a Wednesday. I said this would be fine, they called at 4:59pm stating my time (2-6pm) is hard to meet and they had yet again another person with more emergent issues and couldn't make my appointment. I had 4 failed attempts at getting them to accommodate my appointments, as a new customer this is AWFUL customer service. I HIGHLY recommend not using this company

If I could leave a 0 stars I would, but as their service level is so poor I have spent all day waiting around for an appointment that I was confirmed for via text at 7:30am this morning. At 4:19p when I've now called for the 3rd time to try to understand why I still haven't seen anyone I was hung up on. I can't speak to their actual plumbing know-how but if the front end is any reflection and it's not your thing to wait around all day for poor service, I would look elsewhere. I will certainly be doing so....

Very courteous and friendly technicians. Very informative and was able to explain the process to me as he went along with his job. Jason was able to find a solution to a problem to satisfy the client. S & D Plumbing goes out of their way to make sure that the task is completed to clients satisfaction. I would rely S & D Plumbing to work on any of my home plumbing issue. If you're looking for punctuality, professionalism, and organization to complete their task in moments then look no further. One other thing, these guys are clean. They are in and out without leaving a trace behind.

We've got this plumbing leak, and our regular plumber couldn't locate it after several hours of puzzling over it. They first recommended another company who wouldn't get involved - they even had Leak Detection in their name. I asked for another recommendation and we got these guys. They found this impossible to find leak in 2 hours, because they have the gear to find it and they know what they're doing. We were billed for what John quoted when he arrived and saw the size of our system. We got a repair estimate quickly - John actually hadn't driven off and came back to the house to give me the numbers. As for the repair, they have the equipment to tunnel under a slab from outside, saving us from drilling through the slab. I don't know about you, but I can always use less concrete dust in my life!

John was personable and left everything neat and tidy. I look forward to a quick and relatively pleasant resolution to our leak issue.

These guys were great.  I had a broken sewer line under my house.  S&D came out and figured out the best place to break through the slab and tunnel under the house.  They wanted to impact me as little as possible.
They ended up going through the utility room floor and had to tunnel about 6 feet.  They tunneled under and fixed it in just a few days.  It was horrible dirty work, but they were polite and upbeat every time I spoke to them.  They cleaned up after themselves and even stayed late the day they got the line repaired and called me at 8 pm to let me know I could come back home and use the plumbing.  Zach was my contact onsite and was great.

These guys are awesome. There was a leak in my front yard, and they scheduled me for same day service about 4 hours after my call. I called back to inform them that I couldnt figure out how to turn off water, so they moved appointment up to be there within the hour. Once they arrived, they discovered the issue, explained the path forward, and had it fixed ASAP. In addition, they explained what they ended up finding, and any other potential considerations i would have later. Can't recommend them enough!

our sump pump stopped which means all our plumbing stopped working so needless to say we needed help
Dylan showed up and methodically fixed the problem then spent the time to also troubleshoot other issues within the house (which we just moved into)
professional, clean and friendly - what else could you ask for?

You know, sometimes things just go wrong in life. For me, plumbing issues unearthed a host of other house problems starting last Halloween season. Our plumbing backed up into our bathtub and we invited S and D out to stick a camera in there to investigate. Within 5 minutes Marvin located the break. What could've been devastating, panicky, and confusing news, well, it wasn't. Marvin just calmly addressed all of my questions and I came away feeling oddly zen. I felt like I thoroughly understood what needed to happen next, and though I probably exhausted him and the other guys who came out to consult before the job was repaired, it was clear our crumbling house was in good hands. Yes, we needed foundation work as well, and a graded yard. This job was a beast.

Ultimately, we found out that our cast iron plumbing line was broken under the slab foundation of our 1959 ranch. This one was going to be a big job. While we were away for Christmas Break, S and D tunneled 50ft under our home, sent out a Port-a-potty to cover us, replaced the line (broken in 6 places) and sent us pictures.

The job grew in scope. We extended the tunnel to the kitchen and laundry room and remodeled the two bathrooms, updating a few features. Now, many months later, we are nearing job completion and I have to say that each interaction has been so positive. Dan is extremely thoughtful, insists on the highest quality from his guys, he is thorough and communicative, and his office sends out introduction emails so you know who is on the job site. Michelle, who schedules and takes care of contracts and the money, is ever so friendly and helpful. She answers many questions and is prompt, but nice to me when I'm not as on top of things. Keith was our go-to plumber. He took the time to really think through his work, scrutinized the details, he worked quickly to find and solve issues before they came up, and made corrections showing absolute pride in his work.

Yesterday I came home to a flat front yard and a flat back yard-they hauled off the last of the foundation dirt from the tunnel. To do so, heavy equipment had to be brought in and the fence disassembled and reassembled. All while we were away at work. Yes. I trust them completely.

From start to finish, I am extremely satisfied with the workmanship, service, and helpfulness of every single person we've encountered. I think I can count 8 different guys who worked on our house, all of them with loads of personality and expertise, and all really good communicators. When your house's foundation is in a lurch you don't want to face a grump or a grunter or someone who doesn't make sense to explain the repairs you'll have to pay for and live with. We tried a company like that before finding S and D and I couldn't have paid for that, nor would I felt any peace of mind.

Ours was a challenging, never ending job due to the remodel (not S and D) and S and D did every moment of work cheerfully. I am so happy I chose them. Highest recommendation. Thanks guys!

I had S&D Plumbing come out to my home because of some corrosion on a pipe fitting connected to my water heater.  Two technicians showed up and after looking at the issue they both said I need a new water heater and quoted me $2500 to do so.  My water heater is four years old so it seemed odd to me that you would have to replace the entire water heater because of one corroded fitting so I said I wanted another opinion.  The same day another company came out and in two hours replaced the corroded pipe fitting and charged me $250.  I don't know why S&D Plumbing thought that they could take advantage of me but my gut said something wasn't right and thankfully I called for a second opinion.  We count on professionals to be honest with you when they come to your home and that is not what I got from S & D Plumbing.  If you decide to have them out to your home get a second opinion because they are all about replacing entire water heaters when all it needed was $100 in parts and a little labor they just didn't want to tell me about that option because they wanted the $2500 to replace everything.

Messaged these lovely folks for a quote, and within 20 minutes, I got a response from Amy. She was very pleasant and made everything clear to me, as far as estimates and services.

Chance and Conner came out within the hour, and were extremely helpful and honest, in their assessment and making sure I understood the repairs and my options.

Thanks to them, the drains were unclogged within another hour, and they did a thorough examination of everything before they left. I'm so grateful for their patience and help; excellent customer service all around!

And, hoo, there must be something in the WATER at S&D, because most plumbers... definitely not that ridiculously cute.

I had recently bought a duplex to be used as a rental property.  While I had gotten the property for a good deal, it was not in a very good condition (hence the good deal), and I had to do quite a bit of work on it.  I've used S&D multiple times for various plumbing things such as general inspection, leaking main lines, sink drain piping, etc.  They have always been great with their work and well as their customer service.  The only negative thing I would say is they are a little more expensive compared to others around Austin.

Matt has been the plumber who has been doing most of my work.  He is very trustworthy, and I would highly recommend him.  When I say trustworthy, that is a big deal.  Often times, plumbers and other contractors can get a bad rep for doing work that is absolutely not needed in order to make more money.  This is not the case with Matt.  He has given me recommendations on what needs to be fixed and what doesn't, in addition to showing me how to fix some more simpler things on my own without charge.

I called S&D for a second opinion. We had a shower that was not draining properly. The first plumber snaked it and couldn't get very far and decided we had a broken pipe. He said we had to remove the pipes, excavate the slab concrete foundation, and get city permits, with a $6-10K cost. He said, I could run a camera but I don't see why. This is the problem. That got me thinking I needed a second opinion, especially after the company never got around to submitting an estimate to my insurance company.
Working with S&D was the complete opposite experience. They have excellent customer service and got me an appointment the next day. Melvin came out and was very professional in explaining everything he would do. He was persistent and removed a very large mass of hair that resolved the blockage. He then ran a camera from the interior and exterior and determined there were no other issues with the pipes. The total cost was just over $300, which my home warranty insurance will cover.
S&D saved us thousands of dollars and a big headache through their professionalism and commitment to the customer. Give them a call and you won't be disappointed.

I used S&D plumbing for a sump pump problem....... the problem happened on a Saturday and was having several friends over for a Christmas party/dinner on Sunday.   I talked to Lisa and she assured me someone would come out on Sunday morning to take care of the problem.  John Lisenbee showed up at the time they said he would.  He needed more parts but showed me how to manually empty the tank.  We made it through Sunday without a problem and save our event.  The problem is now solved and I have nothing to great, great, great dealings with this company.....HIGHLY recommend this plumbing company.  Telephone calls from them and emails kept me up-to-date....I'm a happy camper.......Robert Harris

Melvin to the rescue!
Thank you S & D Plumbing for employing such a valuable, knowledgable, kind, professional and proficient team member!  What we thought was a slab leak ended up not being so terrible thanks to the honest workmanship of Melvin. He was GREAT explaining every step of the way. From the time I made contact with my insurance company to the time the leak was completely repaired was only 4.5 hours! That's amazing! Another company couldn't even come out for another three days!
Thank you S & D Plumbing and Melvin for your incredible professionalism. We are truly grateful and we love Melvin!

We recently used S&D plumbing to replace all of the cast iron plumbing in our 1930's bungalow with pvc.  We got multiple quotes from other reputable companies and S&D's came in far below the others which is sometimes a bit alarming but I was impressed with their professionalism and willingness to answer all of my questions very clearly, so I went with them.  I couldn't be more please with that decision!

Their team was prompt, courteous, professional, and knowledgeable.  They were respectful of my home and exceedingly kind to my dog and my preschool aged daughter who were both very interested in the job taking place at the house.  We will continue to rely on their services in the future.

Thank you Kyle and Jared!  You guys are Truly the best I greatly appreciate the SUPERIOR CUSTOMER SERVICE and Professionalism I received today.  S & D Plumbing came through for us when I didn't know whom to call or trust with my plumbing issue. I called Monday evening and at my request I was scheduled for Tuesday anytime from 8:00 am-12:00 pm/noon. I was impressed and relieved the office called me at 8:05 am ready to send their team out.  Within 30 minutes from the call they were at my front door.  Upon arrival they presented themselves professionally, courteous and genuinely concerned to resolve the issue at hand. They were extremely patient and diligent no matter how long their hard work would take to complete. It was cold and just above freezing temperature's but that didn't stop or interfere with their ability to get the job done outdoors.  I thank you all so much for making me feel as a valued customer.  S & D is Highly recommended in my opinion! I have a BRO crush on this place. I happened to visit their office and was given a tour of the facility by Matt Chaney.
They laugh about being #1 in the #2 business but rest assured this place is an efficient business that prides itself on professionalism and doing right by the customer. Their mission statement is located throughout the entire building and so is their faith in God.
They have not one but TWO hydro-jets which they use to really clean out pipes. They also do leak detection, plumbing repair and GET THIS, they actually have maintenance plan and products to keep your home or business going.
Speaking of business they also provide commercial solutions for those large and small plumbing emergencies. They REALLY like to service restaurants too.
So back to my BRO crush on this family owned business. This place has weekly strategy meetings, a conference room and they actually plan their actions and assign teams to work on projects. I wish I could just ride along to see what they do.

A very positive and mostly painless plumbing experience.

A few months back my father-in-law was fiddling with a shower handle in our guest bathroom when he applied too much pressure to it and broke the handle. The shower faucet had leaked intermittently ever since, worsening with use by recent guests, and the handle was completely ruined.

We made a service call to another plumbing service, who quoted us an outrageous price -- $600, just to replace the handle with another used and (in my opinion) damaged replacement. They also worsened the problem by damaging the interior cartridge and handle mechanism to the point where I almost could not get the water to shut back off at all. I called for S&D to get another estimate, and they quoted us a very similar price to replace not just the handle, but both the handles, faucet, and shower head, as well as providing an access panel to our plumbing from a back wall..

The technician who came out was Matt, who was very courteous and professional, and the work looks outstanding. It was completed one day after the estimate, which was a life saver because we are heading out for a long-term vacation in just a days time and did not want to have a faucet leaking the entire time we were gone. They were in-and-out in about 90 minutes, which is pretty remarkable all things considered.

I have subtracted one star due to pricing and some other small issues. Plumbing fixes are an expensive deal; and I feel like Matt was not only 100% honest with me but provided me with multiple options. With that said, it is still tough to pay $600 for 2 hours or work and a replaced faucet/handle system, but it is what it is.

I signed up for their membership program, which costs $100, and provides discounts on future work. The reason I did that was without the membership the cost of the work would have been the same, minus $4, and no extra benefits or discounts on future work. We live in an old house in a rural area where plumbing issues are not uncommon, and I am just not handy enough with those things to feel confident doing anything besides basic work. Matt told me that the membership includes a wall-to-wall walk through of plumbing systems and fixtures, so that S&D can point out potential problem areas and potentially arrange maintenance or fixes.

While I think the intent is good and the idea of a membership to a plumbing company is both unique and interesting, I'm a little weary of a perk of the membership being that S&D walks around your house and basically tells you more things you can pay them to do. I know that's not the point or intent of the membership, but it's kind of the result. Anyway, I needed to leave for some other arrangements and decided to postpone the wall-to-wall inspection until the next time I have a service call, so I can't speak to exactly what it entails, but it does make me weary.

I will be using these guys again, and I recommend you do the same.

I cannot say enough nice things about S and D Plumbing. Replacing the pipes under your house is such a daunting endeavor! Melvin was amazingly thorough trying to find options then  Dan explaining estimates and exactly what would be replaced (apples to apples comparisons?!?) to the most amazing plumbers! I actually looked forward to seeing the smiling (literally) faces of Clarence and Austin. They answered all my dumb questions with a smile and left everything inside and outside as neat as possible each day. Even the digging crew were beyond polite and tried to make mud as neat as it can be. Thank you for making a potentially miserable situation easygoing.

I found S & D Plumbing through the Nextdoor app when I saw that several neighbors were commenting on the excellent quality of their service. I called for a repair on an outside pipe that was leaking into the wall whenever I would use the hose. I had also contacted another plumbing company but they didn't even return my call.

S & D Plumbing was prompt in their service: replying, scheduling and showing up on time. The problem was explained thoroughly and fixed. The plumber also asked if there was any other plumbing issue that needed review and fortunately there weren't any. They are paperless and I paid through their tablet as well

These are the things that will make me call on S & D Plumbing again should I need them.

A broken shower pan allowed water to leak under the shower stall, soak the bedroom floor. closet, and baseboards.  At first, I had no idea of what was wrong, but my insurance company recommended S&D.  john came out and spent two hours checking everything. He had to cut a hole through the sheet rock to expose where the shower pan was, he tested the pressure in the system in case it was a leaking pipe, he checked the place from top to bottom.  I feel he did a very good job. Pinpointed the problem and gave me some good advice on what to do next.  Since it is more of a general contractor's job than a plumber, I hired one, but he went back to the work S&D did on the first day as their starting point.  I feel really good about this company and will use them whenever I have a plumbing problem.

This is the second great experience we've had with the S&D team, both involving pretty major plumbing issues that no homeowner wants to deal with! Most recently when we had a pipe leak under the foundation of our new house, they came out on a weekend, didn't overcharge us, and promptly scheduled a time to come out and repair it. Melvin, Jason, Caleb, Zach, and Chris came out to replace all of the galvanized pipe under our 80-year-old home. They were quick and efficient, respectful, worked clean, and went above and beyond to make sure this work was done right even though they had to work around another crew that was doing foundation repairs at the same time. On the first day, the S&D team worked late into the evening to make sure we had hot water available before they left for the day. Sorry to see there are bad reviews for these guys. Not sure how competitive they are as I didn't get competitive bids given the situation and there reported expertise. We could not be happier with our choice to use S &D. First, they come when they say they are going to and send text tech is on his way with photo. Jason came equipped to find the problem immediately with camera. Although I hired them in hopes of a trenchless fix, it was not possible in our case. It turned into a big deal given the length of time the sewer line had been compromised and over the ensuing 2 wks every person we dealt with from office staff to the guys hauling dirt they were professional courteous and cleaned the work place every day before leaving.   The treated our home with complete respect and helped us get through a bad situation. I would not consider using anyone else for my , my family or friends plumbing needs in the future. Hats off to Jess & all his crew.

I called S&D after another plumber told me I needed someone who could detect the leak in the slab. They were friendly enough on the phone so I made an appointment for the only day I could be home this week, which was the following afternoon. I left work early and rushed home and waited and waited. Finally I called and was told it would not be possible today and they would reschedule for tomorrow. I told them never mind and hung up.
Very unprofessional and a complete waste of my time. They obviously have no regard for the customers time so I will be calling elsewhere.

In response to Dan's comment. No, no one bothered to call me nor did anyone care that I wasted my time for nothing. I see no reason to ever give you another chance.

These guys are my heroes. I spent about ten months with water issues and had four other plumbers out to investigate. I was lacking pressure and my side yard became muddy over a few months. No one else could find a leak and gave me expensive quotes just to investigate further. I was at my wits end when these guys came out. They took their time testing everything and thought critically about my plumbing issues. Because they cared about doing the job correctly, they were able to figure out that I had three completely separate issues to address that were relatively simple fixes, saving me money and putting an end to almost a year of frustration.

Needed to get sewer lines cleaned out. Was charged over $300 and given a $5700 quote on what to do to make it better. 2 days later had the same problem and the response I got was the lines were in bad shape and needed repairs that cost $5700. Went to Home Depot and rented a machine to do it myself. That was mid October and I haven't had any other issues. I will never use them again. Cheaper just to do the dirty work myself.

Plumbing problems in a house are stressful, like car problems. You find yourself in a vulnerable position, at the mercy of someone who may or may not take advantage of that vulnerability and stiff you for a huge bill. That's why I'm so thankful when I'm well taken care of, like today.

After a couple of days away from my house, I came home to a back yard full of water and my water turned off in the house. My meter had been showing over 5 gallons per minute going into the house with nary a faucet running, so there was a pretty significant leak, somewhere in the plumbing. Evidently, our lovely hundred-year drought has been causing similar situations all over town.

Anyway, I got on Yelp and looked for a close plumber and called a likely candidate. He came out the next day and quoted me $127/hour with a one hour minimum for leak detection and then $250 as a starting point to plug the leak. (Ouch, but at least there was a chance of getting it fixed that day, right?) We turned the water on and he walked around the house looking for the water that would be bubbling up, but there was no water to be found. At that point, he explained that we'd need to do an isolation test which would involve knocking holes in my walls, testing pressure, and rerouting pipes. Probably a project that would run into the thousands. Gag.

So, I called up my homeowner's insurer and they wanted to bring in a second opinion, and S & D was their plumber. S & D came first thing this morning. What a difference the selection of plumber made! We turned the water back on and my guy diagnosed the problem pretty quickly. He guessed that the leak was where my water softener's bypass met the water line and used a giant metal dipstick to find the wet earth and confirm. He found and fixed the problem in about 90 minutes and the total bill for finding and repairing the leak was about $200.

I'm sure the earlier slab leak diagnosis had something to do with how happy I was to pay $200, but the difference in experience between my first plumber and these guys was stark. They were on the scene quickly after my initial call, fixed the problem quickly, and gave me a great price. I'll definitely use S & D again.

We recently purchased our 'dream home' home in SW Austin, which we soon discovered was a nightmare, upon discovering (after moving in) that all of the plumbing in the house was in need of complete replacement. How and why we didn't learn of this little issue is cause for another, less-than-glowing review of another service provider. We had several plumbing companies come out to investigate and bid on our work, and we decided to go with S & D. We are so happy that we did!

The scope of the work was insane - they had to tunnel through our concrete slab, throughout the entire house. Every piece of cast iron plumbing had to be ripped out and replaced, and we had to have almost every toilet, tub and sink replaced.

We were pleased from the very start by S and D, from the level of constant and thorough communication, the detailed timelines and the clear and direct course of action. They arrived on time every day, worked within the timelines that they had set, and kept us updated at every step of the job.

As we neared completion, they made sure that the job was done properly the first time, and we had follow up phone calls, visits and additional work done, far above and beyond the initial scope, without additional costs.

All in all, we were out of our house for 7 weeks, and we've just moved back in. We're very happy to have all of this behind us, and are grateful to S & D Plumbing for fixing our issues, and maintaining our sanity throughout all of this ordeal.

We will not hesitate to recommend S & D Plumbing, and will most certainly have them at the top of our list for any and all plumbing needs. Thanks Dan, Rhonda, Clarence and the entire team at S & D.

Dylan called before heading over well in advance. He arrived on time and took at look at the projects we had for him. He provided a quote for the work that ultimately matched the final amount due. He did not have one specific part (an unusual item) however he left to get one and returned promptly. He completed the work perfectly, left the area clean and was polite the entire time. Great work and we will use this company moving forward!

About a week ago, I was in my kitchen and my foot hit the baseboard of our island - crack.  I look down and realize I just poked a hole through the wood.  Upon further inspection, the wood was moist and immediately fears of termites and/or plumbing leaks ran through my mind.  The mystery though is that the island has no plumbing in it, but only an electric cooktop.

After a call to my bug services company and setting up an appointment to deal with any possible termite issue, I then called S & D to address the potential plumbing related issue.  They were able to get me an appointment the very next day and Melvin showed up at my door not too long after the scheduled time.

Melvin spent some time looking at the clues and was very interested in figuring out what was going on without incurring unnecessary costs.  He thought of a few explanations, the most likely being that water was coming in through the electrical PVC pipes rather than being from water or sewage leaks given the area that appeared to have been most frequently wet over time.  And while he did offer a couple of different tests that could be done on the sewer and water pipes, he was clear to mention that this would really be to rule out those particular sources.  In order to track down the electrical PVC theory, I'd need an electrician.

I definitely appreciated his honesty and his desire to identify the true source of the problem whether it was plumbing related or not.  He did end up also diagnosing a minor irrigation leak in our yard and though he didn't have the right pipe cup fitting in his truck at the time, I was assured that S & D would come back to patch it up.

If you're in search of an honest and reliable plumbing company, this one seems to fit the bill based on my recent experience.

John & Cody did a great job.

I've had my house for 6 years, and from the day I moved in I have had poor water pressure.  Been through 3 plumbers, every one of them said there wasn't anything that could be done.

Asked S&D out to replace some toilets, spoke with John about what could be done about the water pressure... a few hours later I'm taking the first relaxing shower I have ever taken in my house.  Water pressure nearly doubled just by replacing one broken part in the front lawn that nobody else wanted to dig up, and the water was HOT HOT -- not just like sorta warm like I was used to.

Best money I've spent to date on home improvement.

Thanks!

A few years ago, when I was purchasing a house, our realtor recommended doing a static test on the drain line since the age of our house. They came the same day and did the test. The results weren't good, but they communicated well with my realtor and provided a bid for the job. Overall, I was pretty happy with them.

I was having a pooptastic day when I had to call Michelle at S&D Plumbing. She was very kind, helpful, and responsive. She was able to schedule Ryan, a drain technician, right away and he arrived at our home only 2.5 hours after I made contact . My first impression was that he was super nice and I really appreciated that they quote on a per job basis and not hourly. Although it wasn't the easiest to navigate our plumbing pipes, Ryan worked tirelessly and tenaciously until our drain was functioning again. It was a rough day, but having experienced the S&D treatment and knowing how much they value customer service, I will not hesitate for a moment to recommend them to everyone I know.

Fantastic service, exceptional customer service. Plumbers were courteous and had no issue with all the chaos going on around them (3 kids, 2 dogs, 5 cats, and I work from home). Explained all the pricing and best options up front with no judgement on what I picked. Office staff was attentive and I cant say enough!

I left a 5 star review last week about this company.  Last week they unplugged a clogged drain (what a mess) and came back today to FIX the problem - replaced a broken sewer pipe that was allowing roots to clog the drain.  Lots of digging - 3 foot deep hole.  They were able to do the work without breaking down a rock wall, which made it a lot more difficult for them, but very nice for me.  Neat, super courteous, punctual and quick.  An amazing company with great employees.

I called S&D Plumbing about finding a water leak with standing water at the back of my house.  Michael was the man sent out to check it out.  He was very courteous and professional, and correctly diagnosed my problem as a sewer leak, not a water leak.  He did not have the parts necessary to fix the problem, so he left and came back shortly with the items he needed.  He was able then to fix the problem within  a few minutes.  The cost of the repair was more than I expected, but there is NO WAY I'm going to go down into that crawlspace!  It was worth every nickel I spent.  This is the second time I have dealt with S&D, and the second time I was very satisfied with the way the problem was handled.

My only complaint is that I really requested to schedule the repair visit later in the day, around 10 am to 12 noon, because there is someone in this house that works late and is usually sleeping until about noon.  However, Michael called at 7:30 am and woke that person.  Hey, folks, 10 am is 10 am, not 7:30 am!  That is the only reason I'm giving 4 instead of 5 stars to this review.

Excellent service. From the first call and interaction with Amanda to the work done by Michael and Ed, they are clearly a company that wants to please their customers and earn their business. They were neat and concerned with leaving my property that way. I have a plumber that I've used for 10-12 years who does not have the hydro-jet capabilities which S & D have. I will use them for all my leak detection and hydro-jet needs and will refer business their way.
It's a good company.

We had an underground leak just our side of the meter. Ended up being marginally more expensive than quoted; the original install was a trivial matter so finding the source of the leak was unusually difficult and took more time than the plumber anticipated. He did eventually find it and fix it.

Nice people. Arrived on time.

This is the way to run a business! I had a leak in a pipe under my front lawn. Marina, who answered the phone, was able to contact a technician who came to my home just a couple hours later. This was late Friday afternoon. The next day Tyler and Jason brought their equipment and searched, found, and repaired the leak -- pretty much in the dark. Amy kept me posted about their arrival time. This was a Saturday. Wow! I couldn't believe this all happened so fast. Marina, Amy, Tyler, and Jason were all extremely friendly and professional and made me feel like I was their most important customer. Thank you, S & D Plumbing!

I needed a plumber to help pin point a leak that was discovered while replacing a hot water tank. S & D was recommended to me and I called them late on a Thursday afternoon. I was told they could stop by on Friday morning. After 30 min later, I received a call from Amanda who said she had a plumber in the area that was finishing a job and would it be OK if he stopped by. I really appreciated their eagerness and technology to be able to route someone so fast to my home. I know they make money by having more tech visits more homes but compared to the other company I called who told me it would be about 5 business days later, I sure am glad I called S & D.

Absolutely great company. We have been in Austin for a few years now, and have basically called around every time to find any plumber who can come the soonest. That's how we ended up with S & D Plumbing, and I am now singing a loyalty tune. S & D guys were awesome. They fixed a broken/frozen pipe,  replaced faucet, and did a full inspection of plumbing issues in our house with some great suggestions. The plumbers were fast, efficient, and did a great job of showing me exactly what was wrong and how they were going to take care of it. I joined their membership (which may sounds like a gimmick, but it isn't!) -- you get a nice discount, priority scheduling, and the annual inspection. That inspection set us up with an explanation and solution for our bpoorly-draining sinks (in the past, 3 separate plumbers were not helpful with those milder but annoying issues). Price was fair and the guys were friendly, professional, and to be honest, pleasant to have around! Thank you, S & D!  I'd like to say I look forward to the next visit, but let's hope it's later than sooner (lol) :-)

S&D to the rescue -- again.  I have a sink drain that's been slow and over the years have worked to get it cleared.  It gets better, then worse.  Finally it stopped.  Tried a couple of different mini snakes that managed to get around a very sharp bend in the drain, but could not get through to the clog.  Liquid Plumber did NOTHING,  so finally called the pro's.  They could not get a snake down there either, so sent the hydrojet over and that did the job.  Sink is draining fabulous now.  Between the customer loyalty discount and a couple of other discounts they offer their regular customers, price was very reasonable AND I know it was fixed right.  I really like that they're both family-owned (personal service) and that they're big enough to have all the specialists and specialized equipment you could need at the ready.

I used S&D for the first time to check out a running toilet at a rental property in Pflugerville. Amanda answered the phone when I called and was very professional and told me that Melvin would be going out that same afternoon. A huge water bill alerted us to a water leak that was somewhere on our property. We asked a very highly rated, excellent plumber to look into it, and he told us that it is necessary to have specialized equipment to detect it.
Subsequently, I contacted S&D Plumbing based on proximity to our home, their excellent Yelp rating, and their specialization on leak detection. The scheduling specialist on the phone was very friendly and responsive, and making an appointment was easy.
The technician, Melvin, was very polite, and patiently explained to me the methods he used to detect the water line in our front yard. In less than an hour, he found the leak which was about 5 feet below ground. The amount of physical effort necessary to dig to the pipe was large, but Melvin did it in short time. I then had to leave home for work. When my wife and I returned in the evening, everything was perfectly fixed and worked flawlessly.
The price was, given the effort and time necessary to fix the leak, very reasonable.
This is really the best possible service I can imagine. Melvin and S&D Plumbing get my strongest, most enthusiastic recommendation.

S&D plumbing is the best! I called them in a panic because my outside faucet busted and water was shooting everywhere. I had water coming out of the drywall in my garage, and I didn't know how to turn off the water to my house. I called them and they immediately had Dylan at my house! So it turns out that when you buy a house that is old, plumbing has a tendency to stop working properly! I had several other plumbers that I spoke to first that just couldn't find the time to get back to me. Enters S&D Plumbing. I gave these guys a call, and turns out they are professionals! Not only did they out the day of but followed up with both emails and phone calls!! This is unheard of in the industry! Nobody gets a immediate response AND follow up calls. Truly a unicorn in the plumbing world! Matt C. is my project manager and has been incredible. He has overly communicated and answered every question very thoroughly. Are they the cheapest guys out there? Probably not, but do you want the cheapest guy working on your plumbing? That should never be your first qualifier. They were priced competitively, but more important they listened to me, brain stormed about the possible solutions, formulated and presented a plan then put it in play. If your having issues, call S&D Plumbing, ask for Matt C. (I'm partial, but I'm sure the rest of them are great as well) and enjoy great customer service on what can be a stressful home issue.

If I could give 4.5 starts I would. I have used S&D 5+ times for static plumbing tests to see if plumbing under a slab is functioning as intended (as in -not leaking under the slab) and really like Melvin's non-nonsense way of communicating.  He is clear & consistent each time. During the static plumbing tests ($275) he explains the process each time. If a system fails, he will redo the test 2-3 times to make sure he is getting the correct reading.  You find out  on the spot if it passed or failed.    You can have them go back out and pin-point a leak's location and they will run a camera down the system until they find it.  Thankfully, he explains what he sees, b/c it looks like a sonogram to me... if you don't tell me what I'm looking at it's just black and white!  I used to get a couple of bids for a job, now I have them on speed dial!

My insurance company hired  S&D to do a plumbing leak investigation at a house I have in the country. It took them three trips for them to get the test done properly. Since they were familiar with what was required, I scheduled them to come give me a quote on doing the work. My wife and I drove up from Houston to meet them. After it got late, I called to see what was happening. They admitted then that they were not going to make it that day. I told them to forget it, I would find someone else.

Run away. S&D made a mistake when they inspected my home before I bought it. Their plumber said there were no breaks and no bellies. Just a few months later, my laundry line broke and two separate camera tests -- one by S&D plumbers -- confirmed that there were bellies. Both S&D and the other company independently said that the whole house needs to be repiped. Bellies do not develop in two months. Their first plumber made a mistake when he inspected my house.  Okay. Mistakes do happen, even by good companies. So I asked S&D to help remedy the problem, which is what I would expect from a reputable company. The best they could do was meet the low bid from another company that has done quality work for people I know, and Dan acted like they were offering me the moon. In the end, I felt unsupported and blamed for the problem that I am experiencing. I bought this house trusting their word, but I know better than to trust them again. This company may have good plumbers on staff, but their management and client support is awful.

Repaired a  back flow valve at  our  business. Valve  was  leaking next  morning  , AFTER PAYING  OVER  $600!.  Called  them  about  problem , person answering  phone  did not  seem too concerned  about  the issue. .. S & d  plumbing  seems to  be  a BIG money  making  machine  that   charges way  above  going rates! The  valve  was LEAKING  AFTER the    morning   the plumbers  did the repairs, Dan.

We've used S and D for years and have always been pleased. Today Chris came out and replaced a hot water heater for us. Straight shooting advice, professional, courteous service. And a cool guy to boot. Good people doing good work.

I got home on a Friday to a very wet garage and water coming out from the wall where the water heater lives.  I tried a local one man shop, he didn't really do anything and the leak came back.  I looked on a local neighborhood site and saw these guys work with my insurance company, this is a good thing.  Plumber friends of mine back home were saying possible slab leak, so I'm in near panic mode.  Melvin comes out and after some rooting around finds a pinhole in a pipe in the wall.  WHEW!  He and his assistant fix it up for just a touch over $500.  I got a little sticker shock, but I needed it fixed as it was already Monday and I'm not only seeing water wasted, but we're risking mold and bigger damages.  Welp, I think the assistant did most of the work because an hour after they left I walked out to more water!  I called the office and they got one of their guys coming back from Killeen at the end of the day to pop in.  Same leak, the fix wasn't done quite right.  It's ok, you can't learn without failing here and there.  He got it fixed up right and proper, no water no extra charge since they JUST fixed it. Yes, they're pricey, but they're fast and do good work.  Yes, a mistake was made, it happens.  They made it right, though.

Very professional.  Good price.  Repaired 4 breaks in the sewer lines and took photos before refilling.  My only complaint is that they did not pack the dirt hard enough in the spot where they excavated under the house.  A big hole showed up after the first rain.  Next time leave a mount of dirt there or pack it tighter.

Great company!  We had a water leak inside of our wall as well as ceiling.  S&D got sent by USAA.  We also had 2 more additional plumbers evaluate the issue.  The 2 other quotes were 50% cheaper, but I did not want them working on my house.  S&D, even though it was more expensive, did a great job.  They were the only who evaluated the issue to the end and talked about fixing it the right way, not the cheap way.  Since we had to rip out pieces of our wall, it was crucial for the issue to be fixed and not have a leak again.  S&D did work very cleanly, they even vacuumed the steps  - any little pieces they might have brought in from their work.  I enjoyed the professionalism, customer service, and quality of work.  Would definitely recommend and don't try to save - I believe it was worth every extra penny I paid S&D.  Besides, had a nice email follow up - it's so seldom for business to care about you, ask for referrals and follow up after the job is finished.  Hands up, S&D!

Michael, Austin, Shelby and Matt were EXCELLENT in helping me out with a faulty toilet/leaks on a weekend with houseguests and chaos here at my house.  My anxiety was at an all high, but within a few short hours (with them working around our interactions) all was resolved and we now have a wonderful new toilet! Amazingly prompt and quick response with fabulous attention to detail!

Thought I had a leak in the waterline in the front yard. Michael gave me an estimate for digging and repair but then pressure tested and found no evidence of leaking. There is still the possibility that there is a sewer issue so if I find water in the yard again I will call them back to check the line with a camera. Michael was very professional and left me with no questions and no surprises price-wise.

We paid over $500.00 for this highly rated company to detect a leak from our shower wall. They were extremely polite and the plumber (who came twice for same issue and charged again) was very professional and courteous, everyone was until an issue occurred that was not existing before their two visits. The bathroom no longer has cold running water which happened after the plumber found the leak. When I called and questioned this the first operator, Shelby I believe, was going to send a plumber back, she was very courteous also, then I was put on hold and a not so courteous Rhonda came on the phone and told me it was not their responsibility. It took two visits, over $250.00 each visit, and we now have no cold water to the bathroom with the leak. There was both cold and hot water before their repairs! So I once again have to find a plumber to address what this plumbing company somehow created. It will not be,or ever will be again, S and D Plumbing
I gave one star because of the plumber's polite and professional manner. But beware, if there is an issue they will not be so polite or even willing to consider it could be their responsibility. If you use this company, good luck, hopefully they will fix it the first time or you may be out of a very large amount of money.

We realized we had a leak under the ground on a Friday (after 5pm of course!) after water started puddling on the lawn (later found out we were losing about 100 gal per day for a long time). S&D was closed so I left a message. Shelby called later that evening. Although they were booked for Saturday, she worked her magic and was able to get John to help us out. He was amazing. Although nothing was obvious, he narrowed down all the possibilities and found the leak in about 15 minutes, which turned out to be in the small space between the water meter and the turn-off valve. Had he not been so smart and knowledgeable, we might have experienced a great deal more expense with unnecessary time and cameras. After John fixed the leak he followed up with a pressurized test to ensure no further leaks, and then did a final safety check on all the other faucets & water heater. I appreciated Shelby letting me know about their membership program which saved me 15% on the entire job, as well as coupons on their website (saved us $25 bc my husband is military).  I'm a happy camper  :-)

I can say that I've used S and D on three of my houses for different things. I always replace the under sink cut-offs as soon as I buy a house because of calcium build up. If you don't they will bust off in your hand and you'd better know where the water shut off is QUICK! S And D has always done a great job at a fair price. They beat Lowes on a water heater, RO, and disposal install by almost $500! How can you ask for more than that! Any way, I'd recommend them to anyone looking for a plumber. CM

S&D was recommended to me by an engineer who was hired to evaluate the slab of a house I planned on buying.

I let them know I was on the last day of my option period and they sent someone out the same day to test the plumbing.

My realtor met the plumber and he (the plumber) quickly discovered the drain lines had a severe leak. Since I was paying for the inspection, he asked my realtor if he should continue with the next round of tests or if I wanted to stop and inform the seller since the house was still under warranty. Luckily my realtor told him we had enough and told him we were done.

Glad they were able to get to it in time for me to cancel the contract.

Once again S and D plumbing to the rescue. This company has the most knowledgable and on the ball staff. Today we got Matt after discovering that for the six years we have lived here the hot water ran to our frig and the cold water to our dishwasher !!!! All fixed and he was able to answer a couple other plumbing questions we had. Yeah Matt!

I've used S&D plumbers for several issues with my home (tub, water meter, water heater) and they've always been very good. The people on the phone are very nice, the plumbers are very respectful and informative.  I really like when I kind of know what I am paying for and they are patient and willing to do this.

I would like a more detailed breakdown of what I am paying for---the quote was vague, but they are accommodating me by giving more detail after the fact.

One word: Melvin. Unless your house is flooding or you have gross sewage seeping out of your plumbing, wait until you can get on his schedule. Over the last seven years, he's helped us with issues in three homes. He's honest, professional, and knows his stuff. We made the mistake of using a different company during our recent remodel for a few things, and it was a complete nightmare. Melvin just spent four hours fixing what the other yahoo jacked up. So thankful for Melvin!

We hired S & D to do a plumbing inspection on a home we are purchasing.  The team that came out to the house was extremely professional and helpful in their recommendations.  When the seller had questions about a method that was recommended by S & D, the company was more than willing to consult with us over the phone to answer questions and provide further clarification.  The office staff has been exceptionally helpful at getting bids over to us, and finding answers to questions that we have had along the way.  I am thrilled with the experience we have had, and will ALWAYS use this company for future plumbing needs we may encounter.

To update my earlier review I'll say I'm now completely satisfied. Dan contacted me with a sincere apology and an offer to provide weekend service at a discounted price due to the missed initial appointment. Dan was very friendly and helpful as we communicated via email, and when John arrived for the service call he was courteous, fast, and helpful as I tend to ask a lot of questions. While there was an initial scheduling issue associated with my first review, for this experience I'll give a 5 star rating and it's easy to see how they earn 5 star reviews often. I can now say I highly recommend S&D and I can see why they were recommended to me. I will use them again. Thank you Dan and John.

Awful.

I will never recommend, nor will I ever again hire, S & D Plumbing. They took seven months to do a job that should have been two days, max.

That's seven months of work done wrong and having to be re-done, seven months of work done wrong that's still wrong and is just going to have to stay that way, seven months of work not done at all, seven months of appointments blown off, seven months of phone calls not returned, seven months of excuses, seven months of rudeness from the office manager, seven months of having to do things for them
(like contacting the city inspector after they told me for two months
they were still playing phone tag), seven months of asking them when they were going to finish the job, seven months of asking them to please remember to call before the crew arrived so we could put the dogs up and them not doing it, seven months of having an open trench in my backyard for the dogs to fall in, seven months of watching the backfill dirt washed away across my yard by the rain, seven months of their trash (buckets, pieces of pipe, KFC boxes, drink cups) sitting in my back yard . . .

And the capper? They demanded payment immediately upon finally finishing the job yesterday. That's right, we hired them in June 2009, they finished the job in January 2010 -- and then demanded a check on the spot!

Never again.

I selected S&D based and other Yelp reviews and was lucky to have Melvin assigned to my case. I am glad to add my praise to other reviewers and can attest to his professionalism, thoroughness, and courtesy. It was obvious I had a leak in my slab (water seeping up through the oak flooring), but Melvin efficiently determined that it was coming from the hot water line and that the leak was only present in a specific area between the kitchen and bath. He carefully explained the two options: 1) Jackhammer the slab and make a direct repair. Or 2) Redirect the supply through the wall and attic. Costs were about the same, both invasive, and had pros and cons, but now I can make an informed decision about how to proceed. Detailed estimates were emailed to me. Luckily, the leak is very slow (for now) and Melvin reminded me that I could stop it temporarily by simply turning off the hot water valve at the water heater. The charge for the initial diagnostic (pressure testing, electronically detecting the location of hidden pipes, etc.) was $350. Some people might think that is a high figure, but he was at my house for two hours, used specialized equipment, and used his extensive professional experience to ascertain my needs--and--and--he addressed a problem with my kitchen faucet as a bonus! A prudent and cost-aware home owner might get other opinions or estimates, but I say, Why bother. I feel confident I am dealing with true professionals and that they will do good work and guarantee the results. I will be contacting them to undertake the full repair and will post a follow-up review once the major work is complete.

My wife and I live in Taylor and own a two story duplex in Round Rock. My tenant called recently and said the gas company shut off her water heater because of detection of carbon monoxide. This situation required immediate attention, so I called S & D Plumbing. I have used them before and have always been impressed with their work. They were able to send a crew out to the duplex almost immediately. The gentleman called back and said the water heater vent pipes were clogged but couldnt discern exactly why. Of course, since the vent ran up 2 stories , the clog could have been anywhere.  He assured me and my tenant that there was no current leak detected but will send a crew the next day to thoroughly analyze the problem. As promised, a crew was there the next morning. By using a camera probe they discovered that there was sand in the vent. (how , I don't know). They were able to vacuum it out and replace the vent top. Since they where there, I had them repair some other minor plumbing issues that I was putting off. They didn't charge me for the first initial visit and forgave the video camera charge. I would wholeheartedly  recommend their services to anyone faced with a plumbing problem.

I can't afford S&D again.   I have a rental house, which is my old residence, in Manor, TX.  I have a new tenant that  moved in, and she informed me both toilets were running and one of the bath tubs was draining real slow.  I called S&D and was told the Service charge was $79 or something like that.  In fairness to my review, the guy did call me and tell me that the toilets both needed a minor rebuild, which would run $382 for both (after i bought the $99 membership which would give me a discount) and to fix the drain was $100.  To say i was shocked would be an understatement, but rather than pay the service charge and try and get someone else out, i agreed.  Their minor rebuild was no more than changing the water control valve portion for both toilets.  That's it.  Probably a $30 part, times two.  I paid $382. think about that. plus the $99 membership to get the discount.  Then i paid $100 for Total C drain cleaner. $582 for two running toilets and a slow draining tub. The guy was there less than an hour.  As i said, they did disclose the price up front, and the worker was nice and effcient...but if I were you i would let me costly lessen benefit you and i would certainly try elsewhere if you are having what I would consider small plumbing issues.  the money you save may be well worth the effort.

After noticing a pool of water accumulating in our back yard, we called S&D plumbing to come out and take a look and figure out the problem for us. They came out right on time, introduced themselves and were very friendly. Our house is pier and beam so they had to have a few guys come out, since they needed one under the house and one outside to evaluate the issue. I am a stay at home mom or twin boys who are only three, so I didn't have time to be outside and supervise what they were doing. Three hours later they knocked on my door and asked me to come out. I could tell by the look on their faces that it was bad. I asked is it bad? and the plumber just smirked and sent in the big guns, their salesman. Before I was even told the issue, he stared asking me questions about my savings account and if I had good credit. I do not have either of those things because we are just starting out as a family and recently bought this house. He informed me that ALL of my pipes were cast iron, and that they were all rotten and needed to be replaced. The cost was 9800 dollars. After being rejected for a loan we told them we didnt have 9800 cash so we would figure something else out. We then called Excalibur plumbing for a second opinion, only to find out that ALL OF OUR PIPES WERE NEW AND PVC PIPE!!!!!!!! There was a bad pipe in just ONE area of the house. My husband crawled under there to be sure this guy was trying to screw us over, and sure enough, NOT ONE CAST IRON PIPE WAS FOUND. S&D PLUMBING TRIED TO RIP US OFF. WHAT IF OUR 9800 DOLLAR LOAN HAD GONE THROUGH? Would they have just taken all of our money without truly replacing all of our plumbing. I would not recommend these guys to ANYONE.

S&D was recommended to me and I was hopeful to have found a great service.  I scheduled an appointment for last week and they called me that morning to cancel.  I understand that things happen and they assured me it was an emergency, so we rescheduled for the following week.  After waiting through my whole window of 10am-1pm I called to see what the hold up was.  I was assured that I was next in line for service and would receive a phone call shortly (I was also told that someone was supposed to have called me that morning to move my window to 11am-2pm).  After 2pm no one showed and no phone call, and finally after 3:30pm someone called to to say the plumber should hopefully be able to get to me in the next hour.  My entire day wasted- not ok, but I could get over it...  Waiting all day without any warning that I was last on the list and not a priority whatsoever- unacceptable.  Needless to say, I canceled the appointment and hope to find a company that has better communication and treats its customers as if their time is valuable.  I gave 2 stars instead of only one because everyone was very polite and apologetic over the phone.  However, polite doesn't fix my plumbing issue.

I've used S&D Plumbing on two occasions, and both times they went above and beyond to fix my issue!  I have a troublesome tub which has given me great grief over the past year.  The plumbing configuration is awful, and requires us to pull out our bathroom vanity each time we have to access the pipes.  On the first occasion that S&D plumbing visited my home, it was discovered that my drain pipe had disconnected to the tub. Unfortunately, our tub is cultured marble and was probably a custom job when it was made.  The result was that the slope to the drain wasn't correct so it made it very hard to replace the drain and have it connect to the pipe.  At one point, I had three workers from S&D plumbing in my bathroom trying to figure out a solution.  At this point, they had already been at my home for several hours (they also replaced my faucets/knobs which is what added to the time).  It was finally decided that they couldn't replace the drain because they would need a special part which would need to be ordered.  They left, and I was disappointed knowing that I would not be able to use my tub for quite some time.  Thirty minutes after they left, Dan (one of the owners) showed back up to my door (on a FRIDAY) with a part he found stashed in their inventory.  Twenty minutes later my problem was fixed.

The second time they came out was to replace the shower diverter which had snapped off.  Unfortunately (again!)  the handle required an authentic delta cartridge which had to be special ordered because it was uncommon.  When they came out to finish the job, Ronnie worked diligently to get the diverter assembled and working correctly again.  He even had to leave to go look at an assembly print because the cartridge did not come with a screw that would hold the assembly together.  He returned soon after and finished the job.

All of the staff that I have dealt with are very nice and courteous.  They can be on the pricey side, but they do such good work that I don't mind paying it knowing that my issue will be repaired properly.
