Roby Services Electrician
I used Roby to install two new outlets, remove two existing light fixtures, and remove the wiring behind two sconce plates in our 1960s ranch. I was given the impression when we scheduled that it would take a couple of hours, understood the hourly rate and budgeted somewhere in the $350-400 range for the total body of work.

When the electrician came on Friday to do the work, he removed the fixtures but was unable to finish the job due to the heat in the attic (totally understandable and I would hate for someone to fall ill working in the attic in August). He apologized and rescheduled to come back the next morning with an hour or hour and a half more to do.

The second attempt took two hours and forty-five minutes, including cigarette breaks, on top of the hour we had already paid for on Friday.

In all, two outlets and two light fixtures took 3 hours and 45 minutes, costing more than $800. Lesson learned, beware of any estimated time for the job.

Michael & Son - Charlotte Electrician
I am so disappointed. I had been working with Michael and son's for over a year as it was a well know company in a unknown state, we are from out of town. We had recently bought our home and because we were not ready to move into it we rented it out. Our tenants called with issues regarding the water heater. We decided to call Michael and sons because of the reviews and again because it appeared to be a reputable company. I was somewhat surprised at the manner in which the technician handled the appointment, he called to say I was endangering my tenants and that unless I did exactly what he recommended he would have to call the county but if I decided to wait or get a second opinion he would have to report me to the county right away. I was concerned for my tenants because the house had been bought less than a month ago and i had no idea what the previous owners had done. I also was out of the state and had to trust his words, again a reputable company. Well Almost $9,000 later we had a new heater and everything was up and running. There were some minor issues in the winter which they came and handled right away. So what is the problem you ask? We finally moved into our home (four days ago) and as I tried to set up gas in my name, the company refused, why? because the job was poorly and horribly done, the exact words of the Mecklenburg county technician (Piedmont gas). He  was also shocked about the price that i reported we paid and, the cherry on top, he could NOT put the gas as the job had NEVER been inspected and it was leaking which was a hazard. Mind you this job was A YEAR and a HALF ago so my tenants were in grave danger, possible not by us the issues this so called professional had told me over the phone, but by THEIR doing!!!!!! I called the company and explained what had happened, not only did they act nonchalant about it, they said they would send a technician over in a few days. Since I did not let go of the matter, I requested an emergency visit and also requested them to connect me with the regional manager. I am so saddened by all this because I feel this technician took advantage of the fact that i was miles away and literally ROBBED us blind!!!!! do NOT use this company!

Jim Dickerson Electrician
I called this company because I had issues with water in my tub and coming from the floor of my bathroom toilet. Along with other companies called, I decided to go with them because the rep on the phone said they we very honest people and do not charge for services that were not needed. This was their pitch for charging hourly vs flat rate. Seemed to make sense so I had them come out.
Now what did I actually get for my money? A whole bunch of nothing and a huge waste of time.
The plumber showed up at 2:50pm and had difficulty locating my sewage drain so he could snake it out. Mind you, he took the time out to view my neighbors yards and where their sewage drains were located. The sewage is also marked on the concrete, so finding it should have been all of 10 minutes. But, no....it took him 1 hour and 15 minutes to find the drain.
After he finally found it and popped open the drain, he informed me that this is a city issue and I should have called them, not the plumbing company. He also informed me that I would be charged for the full time he was there, even though some of the time he was smoking, walking in neighbors yards, and calling his office to get someone else to come help him look for the drain.
As you can imagine, I was upset to find that I had to pay almost $200 for him to do absolutely nothing. He did offer to snake the drain for me since he was already there, and since I still had the plumbing issues. I figured, why not? If I HAVE to pay him, at least I'd make him WORK for it. So, 25 minuteslater he tells me that his snake isn't long enough and that the city has to come do it afterall.  Awesome!! What CAN this company actually do, besides rip people off?
So, as he is packing up getting ready to leave, I go inside and write the check for the time he was there. But wait....there's more. I'm hit with an additional 15 minute charge, which is right around $37, for his drive time!! WHAT???? This was never mentioned to me when I called in with my issue, nor was it brought up when he arrived. I went back inside and wrote another check. At this point, I just wanted this guy and his company GONE!!!

PLEASE, SAVE YOURSELF A HEADACHE AND GET A DIFFERENT PLUMBER!!!!

I have had to use a plumber before for this same issue and not only did they locate the drain in less time, but they were able to snake the drain, pack up, and be gone in less time than these theives took to do a bunch of nothing. I will NEVER use this company again!

IRV Plumbing, Electric & HVAC Electrician
To say I felt cheated by this company was an understatement...

I scheduled a service call to fix my tankless water heater that was no longer providing hot water consistently.  They scheduled a technician who specialized in tankless water heaters to arrive to my home on Thursday the 10th with a two hour window.  I scheduled a vacation day away from work to get hot water restored to our home.  Unfortunately, the technician never showed up and I didn't even receive a courtesy phone call from IRV to let me know that the tech would not be coming.  I called several hours past the missed appointment window and they dispatched another tech however he wouldn't arrive until after 5pm.  The technician that arrived did not know much about tankless water heaters and was not prepared to work in it.  It was as if they just sent someone to show face as they missed the appointment already.  He simply asked me if I had cleaned it since it was installed which I answered no.  His diagnosis was that the unit needed to be cleaned first before doing any further work and he proceeded to charge me $157 for the diagnosis and said that I would have to schedule another day to get the unit cleaned.  This one question could have been asked when I called in for the appointment.  This is also a simple 45 minute fix which I would have expected to be preformed while he was here at my property.

Two days following I finally received the quote for the cleaning which was $530.  This put the total cost of the cleaning at $692!!! The cleaning only requires a $15 descaler solution that is pumped through the flush valves of the unit for half hour.  In addition, two small filters are cleaned (air and water) which take two minutes each.  From start to finish this repair only took me 45 minutes to do myself. With a fully burdened labor cost of roughly $60-75 an hour and $15 of material cost (descaler solution) I felt like this company was taking advantage of the home owner.  I am in the construction business and am fully aware on the total burdened cost for an employee in the service arena.  This was essentially a 700% markup over the companies cost.  I understand companies have markups and need to make profit however this was beyond excessive.  Buyer beware, avoid this company at all cost as they will try to rip you off for such an easy fix!
