I put in my own Septic ...and
I put in my own water Well ( dug with a backhoe 16 ft down)
For a remote property.
Who are they:
They sell water, sewer and drain products
Cast iron , abs, hdpe, copper, aluminum.
Why would a home owner need them.
If you are a do it yourselfer! That's why!
Paying a contractor, an engineer, etc to put in a septic could cost 15-25,000 in anchorage.
F()k that!
I was off the grid.
But wanted a legit septic.
Core and main sells schedule 40 plumbing pipe.
French drainpipe. Manhole covers...
I picked up 10' pipe
90-45 degree fittings
Splices , valves, t's, caps and glue.
Geo textile fabric to keep dirt from my French drain to keep my property dry
The best part.
I wanted a 20' section of hdpe for a well.
Holy Moses. This stuff is like gold in
Alaska.
It's a thousand dollars plus...and is sold like hot cakes.
Road construction sucks it up.
I wanted 36 or 48
Hard to acquire sizes.
Ferguson..... special order.
Another place..... special order.
I'm not totally sure who the main customers are here .
Subdivision creators?
The state?
Cities?
They were so accommodating to this small ( not to me) customer.
Helped me load, smiled , asked questions.
Answered questions.
I was incredibly surprised this low overhead, outdoor lot , construction focused , PROFESSIONAL, outfit.
Held me by the hand and
Sold me what I needed...,NOT what I asked for !
My review scratches the surface.
They sell
From what I can tell.
Anything for your business.
Where the utility stops.
From hospital to home built cabin in the woods
With 10 star customer service.

I reviewed this company incorrectly based on a similar name to a business located in Wasilla, that we have a negative experience with. I gave them 5 stars, because I cannot find how to delete my review, only edit it.

I was a customer of Alpine's, not a disgruntled employee, and I too was charged more than what I was originally told. I had backwash charges applied to my invoice and charged to my credit card before they ever discussed the situation with me. In fact, I had to call them myself to inquire upon noticing the overcharge. I was very adamant in telling them a few times to please call me if there are ANY issues. Yet, nobody called. I had an appointment scheduled for three weeks and they couldn't even give me an actual appointment time so that I could make sure I was there. Instead they called me the day before and insisted they needed to reschedule my appointment. I refused to reschedule as I had made my appointment three weeks back. They said they would get it taken care of but still couldn't give me an appointment time. Then when they overcharge me they say, Well, you should have been there.. and that I'm basically SOL. What kind of customer service is that?? They said I was told about potential backwash charges but I had called around the valley getting quotes and I took very good notes. Backwash charges were not discussed with me by anyone!
My main complaint is that they placed unauthorized charges on my credit card for a higher amount than I was aware of and they did so without even the courtesy of a phone call. They should be ashamed as I would call this dishonest business practice.
In the end they completely refused to work with me in resolving our disagreement and Tom, the owner, hung up on me.

I had an excellent experience with Mountain Mechanical. Being a new homeowner, I am still getting familiar with all of the strange noises my condo makes. I decided to take a bath and started hear this scary hissing sound, like something was catching on fire. So I go and investigate the closet where the sound is coming from and it appears to be the water heater. When I bend down to look at it, the front panel is halfway off, giving me a glimpse of glowing orange flames. I immediately freaked out and called Mountain Mechanical. A very friendly guy came and checked it out, then explained that I had used up all the hot water and the hissing sound was cold condensation dripping onto the heater. The glowing orange flames, which are normally blue, were leaping around with the hissing because the drops of condensation would momentarily interfere with them. No safety issue.
Seeing how shook up I was, he stayed and had me turn on the heater, listen to the sounds, and then explained those too. He even prepared me for ticking sounds from the baseboards in the winter. I will be calling them again to schedule an inspection, and will keep their number handy.

I was out of state, and winter on the way, when my aged boiler failed. I contacted Trey at Alaska Plumbing Service. His response was fast, detailed and he sent a video showing why the boiler required replacement. Not news I wanted to read, so I verified with another HVAC contractor. Alaska Plumbing Service's bid was $1,000 less and the permits/install/inspection was fast (4 days end to end). Communication was good and the quality of the work exceptional.

We had a pipe burst underneath the house, called JD and he was out here in no time. He was awesome, for a plumber to come out on the weekend, I did consider him very reasonable. We have had a pipe underneath our building leaking hot water for about a month, it was a mess down there. We were so impressed with him that we not only had the emergency repair we hired him for additional plumbing needs. He is professional, courteous and very hard-working. I would absolutely recommend him to my friends and family for plumbing needs.

I have mixed feelings about Alkota. They replaced a boiler under warranty back in January on a Friday before a holiday weekend. When it didn't work and we woke up on Saturday morning to a freezing house, they were great about coming over right away to fix it.. but it took 4 or so more trips over the next few weeks to actually get it working. So now I have a brand new boiler that has already had to have parts replaced and I am certainly left questioning whether it was a faulty boiler (which they sold me) or incompetency.
To make matters worse, I STILL haven't received my warranty check and when I have called about it I received a run around and no one has returned my call.
With the poor customer service, I can't say that I would ever voluntarily work with them again but my fear is that they just installed a brand of boiler that no one else services.

R&S only gets 2 stars for being local, otherwise it would be 1. I don't recommend them unless you have a code word for the homeboy hookup.
I prefer to communicate face to face so I've went in twice for two separate issues in the past 6 months. Both times they were extremely rude, unhelpful & it was even difficult to get them to walk the aisle for parts. The rudeness extended beyond the in-store experience, we observed it with phone customers while seeking a solution for our issue.
I recommend going elsewhere or just doing your own research as they recommended.
This business may be great at what they do, but they lose business with poor customer service.

Dealt with this outfit once and will never do it again. Even with a referral, these people thought we weren't important enough to return a phone call. NOT WORTH IT.
