My review is not because I used your service but because your employee decided to use the front of my sidewalk as his parking space. It's rude, inconsiderate, and just have no regard for a persons property. As you can see in the photo my pavement was just recently cemented due to tree removal. There is street parking and I shouldn't have to come out of my house to this big vehicle parked in front of it. I could have been moving or doing something outside and they don't care. Now I have to worry about my $1200 cement job being broken up because a bus is parked on it. Train your employees to stop being lazy and park on the street where vehicles belong.

We had a water heater issue that didn't seem to be an emergency so we had a plumbler come out the next day.  Steven came out on time and was very professional and clean the whole time he was in our home.

He did a great job of explaining what could have lead to our issue and what he recommends to prevent it from happening again.  He was able to get parts sent out to him while he started working, so he was able to finish our job quickly in just one visit.  Steven went over all the work and anything he recommended we keep up with in the future.

Overall the experience was great and I'll definitely keep Henderson in mind next time we have a plumbing problem needing solved.

We have used Henderson on and off for years, for both Heating & Cooling and also general plumbing.  In the past, service was variable -- some of their plumbers were amazing and conscientious, and some did work that was sloppy and created new problems.  They were also always on the expensive side.  The positive was that that they couldn't typically come out fast to do an emergency job, and they usually would correct things at their own expensive if something went wrong.

That changed this Dec. (2022).  I have been told Henderson was bought out by a larger company. They came to our house to fix one hydronic heat zone that didn't work.  The plumber charged us over $750 and did not fix the issue at all -- the heat zone still didn't work!  Right as he was about to leave, and after we already paid, we insisted he come back inside.  He did some draining of the system to get air bubbles out.  Then it worked, but he did not check how his draining and purging affected the other zones.

Unfortunately his draining messed up another zone of our house, and that other zone started not getting full heat.  It apparently had new air bubbles.  Then we had the cold spell and that other zone froze and burst because the pipes were not fully getting ample hot water.  We ended up spending Christmas Day sopping up water to protect our floors, and Henderson refused to take any responsibility. They gave us a quote 80% higher than another plumber to restore heat with a temperorary connection.  We had to do $1500 in repairs ourselves between house damage and the temporary repair on the radiator, and will need to spend more for a new radiator.

I would not use them again, for any reason.

Basically deserves no stars . They are high way robbers . Avoid . Charges exorbitantly even when they do not replace parts or any thing in addition to dispatch fee and fuel charges . I have used them before but will not anymore .

Update : WM Henderson followed up the next day and agreed with the complaint and refunded the hourly charge that was added . So thank you for following up , much appreciated and I will add a star for that .

My heat went out on a Saturday.  Henderson was here the same day. Although they couldn't find the problem in the zoning, they made sure that I had heat through the entire house and came back Sunday. (all for $89.00)

They did find the problem it was the zone control.  I google the part and for a four zone system the part alone was $900.00 + labor + dampers.....I didn't ask Henderson for an estimate and since my system was 22 yrs old, I decided against putting that kind of money into it.  I ordered a new system.

Price was good for a Lennox furnance and a brand new 4 zone heating system plus new dampers. All guaranteed for 10 yrs!!!!!   parts and labor for 5 and parts for 5.

Everyone was so nice.  Workers cleaned up. put drop cloths down and answered every question.

Couldn't ask for better.

I've used Henderson previously for their annual check-ups to see whether I have any serious issues with my heating or AC systems. Honestly, I believe they under-price these services so they have the opportunity to enter your home and write up estimates for much costlier repairs. For example, on their last visit it cost me close to $400 to have a simple $30 capacitor replaced on my heater (come to think of it, they did the same thing a few years back on my AC condenser -- the technicians keep them in stock right on their trucks -- hmm). But that's relatively small compared to the other estimates. Recently they said I needed a new 80 gallon water heater and that would be close to $5000 (with their coupon). Seriously, almost $5000??? After reading the comments on this thread, I'm pretty sure I'm finished using these guys.

We were customers for 10 years but no more.  Although they have always charged high prices, we thought that they were at least honest but  they flat out lied to us during our last service call.

Our heater (that we purchased from them) stopped working in 22 degree weather.  They came the next day and diagnosed a faulty blower motor.  The part was under warranty but we would be charged for labor - $788 which seemed high.  My husband called the service department and was told it would take 3 to 3.5 hours to repair which made the price seem a little more reasonable.  The service manager even offered to apply a $50 coupon to the total bringing it to $728.   What a great guy right??

The technician arrived the next day and completed the repair in less than one hour.  I have since found out that there is no way that repair would EVER take 3 hours.  The service manager lied to us and took advantage of the fact that we were without heat for 4 days in 20 degree.  We were essentially charged $728 an hour for labor.  They also have a neat trick where they provide you a bill that simple says, Heater repair.  No breakdown of charges or time spent at all.  Nice.

So goodbye, William Henderson.  After 10 years, a sewer pipe replacement, repairs for a rental home oil burner, many yearly checkups and a new heating system, we will be finding a new heating company.  Just in time too, cause we need a new air conditioning unit.....

I don't usually leave negative reviews, but I really felt like I had to for this experience.  My toilet overflowed and I had Henderson come out to clean out the pipes.  They knew I had a history of root problems, yet this time told me they could not find any roots and charged me $500.  2 weeks later, my toilet overflows again and Henderson said this isn't covered.  I wasn't about to use them again so I called roto rooter and they came out, cleared all the roots and even ran a camera for $500.  Henderson gladly took my $500 and did nothing, not even run a camera.  I will not be using Henderson again.  Beware of this company.

Our furnace was working fine and then after these guys serviced it Thursday night. Unfortunately, Friday morning it stopped working. I called and was given appt for Saturday night at 6pm the next day!!! They made an appointment for 24 hours later!!! Then they came and took about five minutes to look at it and said it's because our furnace was too old they might not be able to get the part- not taking any responsibility for the furnace not working? They will be back Monday- to replace the nozzle.-Monday they sent a different service tech. who was able to fix the issue and able to talk me through different solutions instead of having to replace the entire unit.
I was very frustrated that the unit stopped working and we had no hot water or heat for 3 days but I am glad they were able to come back and fix the issue.

I can't even tell you how disappointed I am by this company. Rude, arrogant, condescending, dismissive, smarmy, and patronizing barely skims the surface. Here are just a few quotes from the last conversation I had with a man called Jackson. Is this his first name? His last? I wouldn't know because he wouldn't tell me. When I asked for my issue to be escalated he also wouldn't tell me the name of his manager or who he was contacting. He actually flat out said I'm not telling you who I'm contacting and when/if they will even call you back. . .. and...  no one called me back. My guess is he contacted no one. The alternative to that is worse, because it means he did contact someone, and they were as dismissive as he was and didnt even bother to call me. At any rate, some of my other favorites from our conversation.

The plumber didn't agree with you he just said it to get out of your house.

You can keep telling me all you want, but I Dont know what to tell you.

You can't prove that we did this.

If you're a homeowner looking for an HVAC company and you are reading this, do yourself a favor and find another company to work with.

My furnace broke (8 years old) but had two years left in the parts warranty. They convinced me to buy a new one. Since then it has broken twice a winter - now on the 3rd winter. Basically every time them temperatures go into the 20s it breaks and we are stuck freezing - one time for 4 days in freezing temps we had no heat. I've had to have them come at least six times to keep working on it.  They do not seem capable of solving and either sold me a lemon or don't know how to install furnaces properly.

0 stars if I was able to. WM Henderson was hired by the seller of the home I purchased to service the furnace. They completed the service at the end of October issuing a report that the 30 year-old furnace was fully serviced and in working order. Upon running the furnace for the first time after their service we were not getting heat to the 2nd floor radiators. Having worked closely with a plumber in the past I knew I likely just had to bleed the radiators. I checked the T&P boiler gauge first to see if adequate pressure was being applied. The gauge was reading close to 0 which led me to believe I need to add water to the system. Upon doing so a little bit at a time the expansion tank sprung a leak almost within minutes.

At this time, I delineated that the culprit must have been a faulty T&P boiler gauge because there was no change on the gauge throughout this process of adding water and springing the leak. I called WM Henderson to come out as they were the ones to sign off on a fully functioning furnace. I told the dispatcher I had water spraying out of my expansion tank which was all a domino effect from having a faulty T&P gauge despite the system just having been inspected. The dispatcher agreed that invoice for the initial service made no mention of a T&P reading even been taken at the time of the service so he had no problem waving what would have been a $95 service call.

The technician, Brandon, showed up (in a timely manner) but was extremely rude and dismissive. I had turned the emergency switch off to the furnace (due to the leak) which he immediately switched back on and said it's wasn't working because the switch was off. Clearly the issue I was having hadn't been communicated properly between the dispatcher and the technician otherwise he would have known not to restart the system. Once he recognized what had happened he told me that he didn't have an expansion tank or a T&P gauge with him so he couldn't fix it but he would write up a work order. I mentioned to him that I would be seeking WM Henderson to cover the cost of the repairs as it was them that failed to notate a faulty T&P gauge. His response was we never notated those faulty gauges because they are always faulty on furnaces this old.

I followed up with the office on Monday morning. I gave the administrative assistant a recount of these events and she said that the call was recorded and that her service manager would review it in a few hours.

Eric, the service manager, responded in a timely manner and heard the same recount of events. He acknowledged and took ownership that the technician, Joe, who performed the initial service had likely made an oversight in reporting the faulty T&P gauge. I also told him what Brandon had told me about technicians not notating these kind of issues and Eric responded by saying that he would speak to Brandon about that because that is not acceptable by company standards.

At this point I believe that Eric and I are on the same page about WM Henderson covering the repairs due to this series of missteps by their employees...but I was very wrong.

He said despite all of that WM Henderson was not taking responsibility for repairing the furnace at no cost. He said he was happy to refund the seller what they paid for the service because it was not completed to satisfaction but that was as far as he would go. $59 refund to a person that no longer owns the property and is not at all effected. Instead he was insistent that I should pay $494 for the expansion tank replacement, $371 for the T&P boiler gauge replacement, and & $530 to drain and refill the system. None of these invoices listed out the cost for the parts & labor. Just one line item for the job.

Supply houses sell the expansion tank I need for $30 - $45. This means the labor they would like to charge is over $400. And if you do a simple internet search on replacing an expansion tank or just look at the tank itself you will see that this price for labor is astronomically expensive. Would likely take a 'skilled HVAC technician' as Eric described them, a half hour at the most.

Supply houses sell a T&P boiler gauge for $10 - $21. This means the labor they charge is over $300.

The system is already drained due to the 10 gallons of water I removed in buckets because of the leak, but they want to charge $530 to drain and refill the system.

I ended up telling Eric that I felt that the owner of the company would be very disappointed if he knew how his service department was representing him and that I'd really like to hear from him on the matter. Eric told me that he'd leave the paperwork on his desk but it was unlikely that the owner would return my call.

Overall, and to say the least, WM Henderson should be ashamed. Through their actions (or lack thereof) they have accepted that if their technicians do not fulfill their duties it will be, not only tolerated, but defended and accepted. Please seek other options at all costs.

WM HENDERSON PLUMBING
BROOMALL, PA

I recently needed a plumber because my house boiler's pilot light would go off every day or two, needing to be relit by me.  I'd seen quite a few of WM Henderson Plumbing trucks and decided to give them a try.

A young man examined my boiler and after saying it didn't look like anything was wrong took another look by pulling out the thermocouple (a short straw-size, vertical protrusion) and the pilot light and pronounced that the proximity of the two to each other was the cause of my boiler's on-and-off-again problem.  The thermocouple has to be close enough (yet, not too close) to the pilot light to heat properly and, thereby, via proper signaling, keep the boiler going.  My boiler's thermocouple was slightly out of range, i.e., not being hugged enough by the pilot light, and maybe not sensitive enough (I was told); thus, his cleaning/sanding it with a folded dollar bill.  But that didn't work.

I was told I needed a package that would solve this problem and it would cost $521 total.  And that would be on top of this $85 diagnostic visit.  I asked, Why don't you just adjust the thermocouple via bending it closer to the pilot light?  His response: It can't be bent.

I declined the install in order to seek a second opinion, and it just so happened, not from another plumber but from a plumbing-knowledgeable chess club friend about a week later, after a few more pilot light outages.  My chess friend--who doesn't like plumbing costs either--looked the situation over and told me that he would very slightly bend the thermocouple closer to the pilot light.  But the plumber said it couldn't be bent, I informed him.  Nonsense, he answered, it can be SLIGHTLY bent and that's all you need.

To make this story short:  The boiler has been working fine for three weeks straight without turning off--and I saved $521!  Moral:  Attractive and clean trucks do not mean the service is going to be what you expect.

These guys showed up initially on Thanksgiving (an emergency ) and stabilized us. (That bastard Len the plumber said he didn't come to our location ... so much for the only way.)   Henderson made an appointment to return and apply a permanent fix. They called and rescheduled it for two days later, but fortunately, that was OK as I work out of my home.

While they were here, we also had them install a new replacement toilet. Crew was efficient, communicated well, and left the job clean.

They are not CHEAP, but when it comes to plumbing and electrical work, it's not a good idea to lowball.  Get it done right the first time.

They installed a heat pump conversion from oil last March.  It all seemed fine until September when water started leaking through my living room ceiling.  They cam within 24 hours to stop the leak and admitted that it was an installation problem.  People came out to the house and repaired the ceiling even though they found mold on the attic side of the ceiling.  This kept going on and on.  I lived with mold in my house for five months before everything was remediated and the ceiling replaced.  I wrote to Henderson complaining. Just think about it..all if the customers whose systems were installed correctly didn't have to take unpaid days off of work, their living rooms weren't construction zones and they didn't have to live with mold.  At the end of the day it got fixed, by put I strongly feel I should be compensated.  I never even received an apology.  They were great when they were taking my $17,000...afterwards, not so much.

Our furnace stopped working during the last snowstorm. My husband spoke with his HVAC friend over the telephone and it was determined to be a faulty flame sensor vs. hot surface igniter. We were going to order the piece from Amazon for $35 but it would not come in for a week. His friend walked  him through how to clean the flame sensor, so that was already done. We decided to call WM Henderson who said they could repair it the next morning. They came and stated the flame sensor was fine but the igniter was not, as we suspected. They proceeded to charge us around $627 and told us that $500 of that was the cost of the part, which is not true. I was told they were going to send me a receipt via email which I am still waiting for. We are very perplexed as to the cost of this service visit, as we have called other HVAC companies since this experience and  they have stated this is GROSSLY overpriced. I am still waiting for a response from the company .  So, at this time, I tend to agree with another reviewer that the price appears to be  bumped up three times what it should be.

Had a clogged main line and had called another plumber who was unreliable and never showed up. Remembered seeing WM Henderson trucks in our neighborhood before so we called and they had great customer service and got us scheduled the next day with a window about 4hrs. As we were told would happen, The technician called when he was on his way with a time estimate. The plumber who came, Keith, was friendly and kept us updated when he hit traffic and showed up still within the first hour of the window we scheduled for. When he arrived he was friendly and very informative. We thoroughly checked out the problem, gave us a price and we agreed. We were told an initial dispatch fee (I think $65) that was charged to have them come and diagnose the problem. Then, they give you a price estimate and if you agree to have the work done, the $65 fee is then waived. Keith quickly got his equipment and dealt with the clog. He gave us tips on how to avoid a clog and checked by flushing every toilet before leaving. We had a water hammer noise he also checked for us before leaving and gave price estimates and info on that for no additional charge. Would definitely recommend this responsive company who showed up on time and was informative and friendly.

I would recommend they are services for plumbing and heating they are high but isn't every plumber and heating company. However I would've never ever use their services for my Ductless cooling system I had them come out to do an assessment just to make sure everything was working properly for the coming heat and what I found was they didn't do anything they claim to have clean the vents which you can do yourself and when I asked specifically if there was enough coolant in the system because I had a previous problem with that I was just advise oh yeah it's fine. Upon turning the system on which they did not do it was noted that there was insufficient cooling in the system which meant once again there was insufficient coolant in the system so that tells me they didn't do jack shit and I would never ever have them come out and check my ductless system again so before warned

Called because heater wouldn't ignite. I had spark and thought it may be a nozzle or filter. Guy came and looked and said nozzle was clogged and would give me a price on replacing and changing filter. Came back with price of $473 for a nozzle and filter which was ridiculous but I needed it fixed so I agreed. He does the work and then tells me there is water in my tank so the heater still wont work and that he tried to drain some off but no luck so I need to have my tank drained and refilled with oil and they don't do that so leaves with it not working. I go down and prime it about 4 times and got all the water out myself. Complete rip off, will never use again.

I engaged Henderson over another plumber because they advised me that their price included fixtures which the other plumber did not.
Henderson was prompt. Their work was excellent.
But -  they worked their way around the fixtures that I requested. I wanted a soaking tub. They installed a regular tub. I wanted a specific hand held shower. They installed a fixed shower.
I showed them samples from Kohler. They installed Moen.  In fact, they seemed to have a thing going with Moen.
Then too, after the major work I had some minor plumbing requests - but for the little things I never saw them again.
Yes, all they did was perfect. It just wasn't what I asked for.
Caveat Emptor.

Hot water stopped working so I had a feeling it was either the thermostats or the heating elements. Tech came and replaced both thermostats when only one was faulty and said the elements were fine. $500 dollars later, the same issue arises. I look into myself and find an electric wire that was never reattached and  also find out the top heating element is shorting which was the culprit the entire time. $500 dollars wasted for $30 dollars of parts and no solution.

A Henderson technician was here to tune up our heating system boiler.  After finishing, he recommended installing something that would prevent corrosion inside the boiler.  He said it would cost $473, so I assumed it was some sort of device.  I said  ok.  Ten minutes later he came up and said he was done.  turns out it wasn't a device, but rather a liquid additive.  I asked why it was so expensive, and he said that's what Henderson charges.  On-line, the liquid costs $25, so it presumably cost Henderson less.  I called Henderson to protest the extreme cost for 10 minutes of labor by a technician who was already here, plus $20 materials.  They first refused to lower the price, but eventually lowered it to $273, which is still a rip-off.  AVOID THIS COMPANY.

DO NOT use this company they are totally overpriced and will over charge you by at least 3 times the competitive rate for plumbing. Dummy me signed the estimate for a kitchen faucet replacement that took 35 minutes $862 later, mind you with my $65 applicable service fee.Called into the CS department after getting my invoice that was not itemized with the charges for the faucet and labor. Lindsay the CS manager refused to provide me with me the breakdown, told me it's a flat rate. GREAT!!! WHAT'S the flat rate?? Basically told me whatever the tech feels like charging . How is this legal let alone ethical. She applied the $50 coupon as that seems to be their solution for every complaint and removed my service agreement after she engaged with a battle of he said she said over being referred and the costs. Totally unprofessional! The end result- still no itemized invoice. I have never in my life received any receipt that did not include itemized charges. Totally UNETHICAL . I had to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau in order to get my charges investigate. NEVER AGAIN.

I requested someone to do maintenance on the boiler because the radiators were barely warm on the first floor and cold on the 2nd and 3rd floor.  Someone came out and found the water pressure was low, so he did not do the maintenance. He was very pleasant and showed me the lever to open to add water to the system but he did not do it himself. I asked about their maintenance program and gave him my credit card. He left and as soon as I added water the pressure went high and flooded the basement. He did not do any maintenance because there was a leak that had to be fixed first. I got another company to come out who realized immediately that there was a pipe broken that supplied water to the boiler.  I emailed Henderson the next morning and told them to cancel the maintenance agreement. They refused. I insisted and they said they would send me a check for half the amount. They should have refunded the entire amount or just not processed my credit card. Their response? We do not refund maintenance agreements. I was not told that nor was I provided with any terms. My experience with Henderson was apparently not uncommon judging from other interviews.

Let the buyer beware!

I had these guys put in an A/C system for me.  It was a High Velocity system.  They did not know what they were doing.  I had trouble from the first.  The system leaked a lot of cold air into a crawl space and they just acted like that was normal!!!  I had to force them to come back and finish the job.  Then six months later after not being happy with the system I watched the manufacturers installation video.  Boy I wish they had too.  They obviously had not watched the video because my system was put in wrong.

The owner is awful to deal with if there is a problem.  The rest of the staff is OK.  Some are even good to deal with.  Over priced and self important.

Ridiculously overpriced quote.
Over $5,200 a Kitchen sink  and Bathroom.
With nearby access to the septic.
That will take 2-3 days to complete for 1- 2 people.
We still have the final hook-ups.

Please explain why such an inflated price?
Do you think we're fools??
Have tons of extra money and wish to give it to you?
It a joke?
It a mix-up of jobs?
We are desperate?

My fiance thinks is pure price gouging. You probably have too much work and thought you would highball it just in case one of the above was true?

We resent Henderson wasting our time, then insulting us with a grossly out of line proposal.

The next quote was $2,500 and am waiting to hear back from others.

The 2 star rating from what I see on yelp means Meh. I've experienced better. And, after getting quotes from several other local plumbers for similar levels of work I think that applies to WM Henderson.

We've had a few plumbing issues in our house since we moved in 5 years ago. At first, knowing nothing about home improvement, plumbing, or plumbers, I had no idea who to contact. But I'd seen the WM Henderson vehicles around and figured it'd be worth it to go with a local company. They charged what they charged for some routine maintenance type of stuff and I kept them in mind for. Their staff was nice enough.

Flash forward to a more major issue I had in a bathroom. We had a section of pipe that needed to be replaced, about 2 feet and new stub outs for hot and cold water to a sink. We also needed a drain line replaced and tied into our sewer stack in the same room. I took out the floor in the bathroom to expose the studs so there were no issue with access. I priced out the parts to be around 100$ Henderson quoted me $1,300. Another local plumber with excellent ratings on here quoted me $650 which at 100$/hr seemed far more reasonable to me. I priced Henderson's labor out at more than 200$/hr considering the parts.

I work in an industry where if bids came in that far off we'd have a problem, a misunderstanding as to the scope of work. What I've come to realize however is that Henderson is just very, very expensive. Please consider going with a more local plumber. I could have saved hundreds if I did so sooner.

Professional staff and responsive management.  Service is prompt. Only complaint I have is pricing on parts.

We totally got taken advantage of, and it's sad knowing this sort of thing goes on and its hard to find trustworthy people these days. We had called WMH when our gas water heater wasn't working back in October. The technician, named Steve K, didn't bother troubleshooting or even touching the heater, but just said Unfortunately, I know this model well, it's discontinued and when you have water in your basement they are ruined. I explained that the heater was only 3 years old and there was a water leak in our basement, but not enough to submerge anything. He then explained that even the slightest bit of moisture is enough to get sucked up from the bottom and completely ruin the heater. He then quoted us $1339, and pressured us by saying the $95 service fee will go towards it if we agree but we'll lose it if we decline. Glad I chose to decline, I just had a feeling something was fishy.

So the next day I called Bradford & White tech support and told them what the WMH tech said, and they called his claim ridiculous. I also called 2 other local HVAC companies and they said the same thing, and they couldn't believe that he didn't even take time to open the thermostat or look at the burner.

We told WMH this, and they said We stand behind what Steve told you and will not come look at it again, but if you still want to buy the heater from us we'll deduct $100. We did not have enough to buy a new heater, or risk another $75-$100 charge for another HVAC tech who might say we still do need a new heater.... so we endured 3 months of having no hot water (in the winter mind you) while we saved for a new heater. We were really stuck, and we had to get used to heating big pots of water on our stove, carry it to our tub, and using that to bathe.

Finally, in January, our neighbor had a handyman that they knew come check it out. He came over, opened the unresponsive thermostat, started properly troubleshooting, cleaned some wires he said looked dusty, and got the heater working in no time. He charged us $20 for the hour he was there since he was friends with our neighbor, but we gave him $100 for his honesty--and for saving us $1300. W.H Henderson, please stop trying to take advantage of people who are not familiar with HVAC tech details, it's not right. Some people go through financial setbacks like us where even $100 is too much to throw around. Please encourage your employees to do the job they were asked to do (fix things) rather than upsell and make money/bonuses/quotas or whatever. PLEASE tell them honesty will be better for business in the long run.

Wm Henderson has serviced our furnace and AC system for years.  They are always on time, courteous and do a good job.  They are also available on short notice.  They may not be the cheapest, but they make up for it with good customer service.  Sometimes, that's the difference.

I have an annual contract for heater and air conditioner. I had an appointment scheduled for the heater maintenance today and they called to cancel. The same thing happened in the summer with my appointment for air conditioner maintenance. They do not seem to care about their customers time. Needless to say I will not be renewing my contract.

As first-time homeowners, it would have been very easy for Henderson to take advantage of us -- we had no idea what we were getting ourselves into with a 100+ year old house, and we had no concept of what any repairs / maintennance would cost.
A year into it -- we have unfortunately suffered numerous HVAC emergencies, and thank goodness Henderson has been there to bail us out every step along the way. Most of our situations were based on desperation; the previous owners had used Henderson so when we were in a bind we just moved forward with the people who we felt already had a good handle on our weird old house. But, for decisions that we could take our time with (air conditioning installation, namely) we did our due diligence and got multiple estimates from local providers. Despite all the price-criticsms described within other reviews, Henderson actually came out slightly less than the other bids, which made it an easy decision for us because we already knew first-hand that their work, reliability, and knowdledge is impeccable.
Due to our ongoing maintenance issues (sadly, this seems to be just par the course with old houses) it was a no-brainer to sign-up for Henderson's service plan, and with all of the other craziness of life it is relieving to know that when it comes to any AND all HVAC situations, we've got our guys.

Their service was grossly overpriced.  For unclogging a drain and replacing a pop up stopper, they quoted me at triple what another plumbing company offered.  They ask you to pay 65 dollars even if you decline the high priced repairs, just for showing up at your door.  They also called me asking for the $65 when they hadn't yet returned my $200 deposit on the repair that I declined. I did get my deposit back, but I'm still out the $65 for having them them to walk into my house and give me an overpriced estimate.

My tech mike was great. The issue I have was the young lady Olivia in the office. I had called earlier in the day to schedule my heater to be serviced. Apparently I was not using the correct terminology as she so kindly pointed out  that was is considered  Maintenance. She said they don't not schedule those appointments on the weekend and the next available appointment would have been mid December. I told her I would call back Monday to schedule an appointment for maintenance.
Later I found out the temperature would drop to 32゚ that night so I decided to turn the heat on. When it did not come on and I sought help to light the pilot but it would not stay lit.  I call the office back to get an emergency appointment and spoke with the same young lady who gave me attitude as if I was lying about the situation. I have an infant and a young child and dropping temperatures and did not have time for her attitude.
She call back to tell me that there was a technician that could be there within the hour but I had left to go by space heaters because I did not believe she would send a Tech out. Someone was speaking to me and she proceeded to yell both of you could not speak at the same time.  I admit she was on the car speaker and it can sound loud and choppy sometime.  It was how she said it with negative connotations.  By this time I was like go fuck yourself but I had small children to think about.
In the future maybe this young lady can understand trying to get service on during the holiday season is stressful enough this is another bill on top of everything else and people don't need stink attitudes to go with it.

We called Wm. Henderson to come take a look at our heater when it stopped working suddenly. This has happened before, and the cause was a bird flew into our chimney and clogged the system. We hoped that it would be the same this time. So their tech comes out, and check the heating system for a matter of 5-8 minutes, and says that we have a bad motor. It would cost $917.00 to fix and he also cleverly let me know that there could also be other issues with our system that we would need to fix to get our heat back on, but he wouldn't know until the motor was replaced. At this point we were going to give them the go ahead to make this repair despite warning signs like the quick diagnostic, and being asked by the tech if the issue with the heater is large, if we plan on getting it fixed right away. As if he was making sure we were going to say yes to any problem he came back with.

What changed our minds was the previous warning signs and the $307.00 bill for the 5-8 minutes he spent inspecting our heating system. Over the phone we were told that it was $95.00 for them to come and take a look. When I told this to the tech, he says Oh, that's just for us to knock on your door. Which makes absolutely no sense! At that point I felt slimey even speaking to him and felt I was being scammed so I told him I only had $100.00 on me and could not get more money for him. So he said he'd call and see what his boss says. 5 minutes later he comes back and says that just the $100.00 is fine...

So as you can guess at this point I knew that at the very least this tech sent was a crook if not the whole company. Now we find another heating company to come in for a second opinion. This tech took significantly longer looking at our system which felt good. Then he gives us his diagnosis... A bird was stuck in the system!!! Your motor is completely fine!!!! He removed the bird and all was well.

I'm so sorry for this as I don't normally write reviews, especially to bring anyone down, but this I could not let go. I understand mistakes are made, but to me this was clearly no mistake. This was done to take complete advantage of my family, and throw a large bill over our heads. Completely unacceptable to do to honest homeowners just trying to have a working heating system for the coming winter. I would suggest never using this company for any work if they take advantage of people like this. I will call Wm. Henderson and speak with them about this. If they don't blow this off and actually look into the situation I will edit this review somewhat so that what could have just been one tech's crookedness doesn't bring down his entire company.

The plumber gave me an estimate of $500 to install a new dishwasher that I had already purchased. For that kind of money I could have bought another dishwasher. I was charged $65 for the privilege of one of their plumbers making the estimate.

Dishwasher installation should not be at the mercy of a lazy plumber who has no interest in doing the job. There should be a fixed rate for this kind of work. Just because I live in Main Line does not mean I have lots of money, nor so stupid that I don't recognize when someone is trying to rip me off.

Predatory Professionals- No Heat- I recently called Henderson to replace a thermal coupling on my furnace in a apartment building. The building had no heat and as a result dozens of people were impacted. When the technician arrived, he had absolutely no intent on repairing the thermal coupling, instead all he wanted to do is give me a quote on a new heating system (which was emailed to me within minutes) and my tenants were left to freeze. It cost $95 for my estimate. The next morning another technician replaced the thermal coupling in 1 hour and the heat was on. I've been in the construction industry for 30 years and I have seen contractors like this in the past. Very disappointing! It makes me wonder how many people were leveraged into spending tens of thousands when a $40 part is all they needed.

Henderson is now charging people $95 for the privilege of letting them charge you for the repair.  In other words, they will charge you $95 for nothing, and then also charge you full price for the repair (time and materials).  They used to apply the up front estimate charge to the cost of the actual work.  Absolute scam.

WM Henderson has been my plumber for 10 years after they fixed my 5-year old Viking dishwasher.  It wasn't even broken but was pronounced dead and sparking by a Viking repairman who said that they don't last much past 7 years!   The only problem was that the hose connecting it to the garbage disposal had fallen under my kitchen sink which my plumber discovered when he came to remove the dishwasher so that I could install a new one.  Several years later it runs like a charm.  Importantly, my serviceman is Jeff Stout and he is like a family member - expert, honest, thorough, and explains everything he is doing and leaves everything neat and tidy.    I think their prices might be a bit high - hence the 4 stars - but I haven't priced other plumbers to confirm but as far as I'm concerned Jeff is worth any possible premium in cost.

I called for a minor plumbing issue. The girl on the phone told me the charge is $125/hour, and $69.00 if you don't agree with the estimate. After looking for 5 minutes, the tech quoted me $450 with what would be a 20 minute job. When I asked how much his hourly rate was, he said $250/hour. I told him that was very different than my phone discussion. He left without doing the work. Many of my neighbors also had a MISERABLE experience with Henderson. Avoid this company.

10/3/19 - true to form the company again promised one thing and did another.  Following my original review the company noted they would reach out shortly given they take my concerns seriously.  They did not reach out.  They do not care, now that they're paid.  Over promise + under deliver = a very bad experience for me and other customers.  Just be honest and do what you promise.

I called to schedule a routine annual clenaing and to help diagnose a noise coming from one our a.c. lines in our high velocity system. Everything was working well but still a small noise.  The closest they could schedule the cleaning was JULY but they sent a tech out the next day to diagnose the nosie.  I still do not understand why both couldn't be done the same day. The tech could not figure out the noise and my husband paid $65 and was told if the noise happens again call and we will come out (for another $65). On top of that he claimed they would not clean the system until we had our attic floor redone in planks.  We currently have boards in most of the space and it's perfectly fine to walk around up there.  Pissed off we paid $65 for just the truck to show up, I called and canceled our scheduled maintenance and found another company.  And guess what, they were able to come out the next day, diagnosed the noise which was something very simple as a sticker stuck in the system, AND cleaned our unit all for $125.  Henderson is a total ripoff. We would have paid more in just having a 2nd service call to determine the nosie.  Do yourself a favor and call a smaller, local company.

From my tune-up w/ George that revealed a failing boiler to Bob showing up in 30 mins to estimate a replacement to Mike and Tim installing the new boiler in less than 24 hrs was TOTALLY beyond my expectation for a service call. My old boiler failed during an ARCTIC BLAST & with the coldest night time temp in over 8 yrs - single digits! My first-time experience speaks VOLUMES for a company READY, WILLING AND ABLE TO MEET THE CUSTOMER'S NEEDS, BIG AND SMALL. Regret not affiliating yrs ago. Most highly recommend to everyone!

I urge you to get second opinions before settling with their prices. My heater went out and for them just to diagnose the problem it was 200 dollars! My heater broke recently and they were prepared to charge me 1800 dollars. These men are great salesmen, they told me buy a new heater (4,000 dollars!). I thought something was funny so went ahead and got a second opinion. The second company laughed when they saw my issue and said it was a simple fix. They charged me 450 dollars and told me I'll get a few more years and not to stress. The company told me that Henderson totally blew my issue out of proportion. Please do not use this company! I've heard many stories like mine. Now none of my neighbors or family use this company and have worked successfully with other heating/cooling companies. I hope this saves you and your wallet from making a disastrous decision with going with this crooked company!! They don't care about you, they only want money.

I used Henderson two times and both times their workmen were knowledgeable and courteous.  I have issues with their prices - a 95 dollar dispatch fee. What, to call a van and go over to this place? 95 dollars?  However I have found that most plumbers charge exorbitant fees so Henderson is not alone.  My bigger issue was that I called around the 4th of July that my air conditioning had broken down and I was told  I would have to wait 2 weeks to get it fixed.  You may remember it was approaching 100 degrees and I am no spring chicken! Yikes! I have never had a service company treat me that way!  I almost felt I was some deadbeat who didn't pay their bill and they did not want any part of me. Not true, of course - I paid every bill as it was presented to me.  So I called Oliver and they were there in 2 hours.  That is my new company.  However, to be fair, they are also overpriced!

I recently used this company for home bathroom repairs.  Their customer service folks were professional and nice to speak with.  The plumer arrived at the exact time they stated.  I needed work done in two bathrooms.  One was complicated and it was done perfectly.  The other job caused me to question the repair plan.  The owner himself contacted me and provided confidence regarding the plan.  All was completed satisfactory.

We've had trouble finding a responsive and reliable plumber, so called Henderson when our water heater stopped working. They have a receptionist who answers the phone and books appointments, so you don't have to wait for a call back. They were able to send someone over that morning, who told us we needed a replacement, which seemed likely given the slow leak we found near the pilot. They offered a price to replace it immediately, and after a few calls to compare prices, we went them even though the price was slightly higher. The technician was very competent and explained the different options to us clearly, and we wanted to go with a business I felt would be reliable in case of emergencies. I highly recommend Henderson. You might pay a little more, but you'll be getting excellent quality work.

You know what? They do a good job. If money is no object and you just want to be 1000% sure that they won't screw it up, these are your guys. But, when I say that they are expensive, I mean, that is a huge understatement. Expect to pay like twice what you'd pay another firm. I had a clogged kitchen sink last March that turned into a major repair.   I paid IN-FULL for ALL plumbing services billed that day even though I was not satisfied.  Because I was unhappy, another rep came by later and wrote up a work order to replace a main pipe in the basement - this was a result of a fracture from a snaking procedure that took place during the initial visit.  I did not go through with the additional work that was written up but they billed me for a plumbing contract even though I explained to them that I did NOT want it.  I would ONLY have purchased a plumbing contract had I got the additional work done, otherwise it would not have been cost effective for me to purchase.  After many calls and emails were exchanged by their office and myself to no avail I decided to ignore their billing.  Nine months later, they took advantage of the Visa information they had ON FILE, to charge my credit card $105.00 for a plumbing contract WITHOUT my Knowledge OR Approval.  Of note, I have spent over $9000.00 with this company in recent years.

I'm very torn while writing this review.  I have used this company 4 times, twice for my house, and twice for my rental property.
Pro's:
*The customer service is fantastic!  Everyone in the office is really nice and incredibly helpful.
*They were always able to get to my house or the rental the day of, which made us and our tenants very happy.
Cons:
*Expensive-We had them replace our water heater.  Now, we were told that this was a more expensive water heater, but we were given a baseline quote on the phone of $1350 (We knew this wasn't exact, so we figured that it would probably cost us around $1500-$1600 total, which we still found to be pretty expensive; however, since we had always had a good experience with this company, we decided to go for it.)  When they came out, they told us that the gas valve wasn't working and needed to be replace, but since the water heater was almost 10 years old, we should probably just replace it, which we agreed with.  The new water heater, with labor cost over $2400, but since we bought their maintenance plan it ended up being $2325.  While we didn't want to pay it, we had no hot water, and did not want to wait, so we went with it.  (If you check online, the water heater costs $1300...so basically we paid $1000 for labor, removal of the old, and installation and delivery of the new.)
*Second con-when the plumber went out to our rental the first time, they had about 3 different issues that needed addressing.  One issue he did not charge us for, as it was to clean out some debris from the inside of the faucet.  Well, the same issue came up about a month later.  We sent the plumber out there, and I asked the company to have him call me to let me know what was the matter with the faucet. (Had the debris become worse?  Since there was more debris is there a bigger problem?)  I never heard from him until he had left the property telling me how much we owed.  We talked about this problem, and he said that if it happened again to call them.  Not exactly ideal as we pay them well over $100 just to go out there, not including any new parts that may be needed.  I really wish, as this is a rental, that he would have done what I asked, and called while he was there so that we could have figured why this kept happening.
So, while the customer service aspect is really great, be prepared to spend!

Tim T. has been to our house several times over the past 2 weeks or so.  He has been very professional and has done a great job.  Our basement is accessed through a crazy trap door in the kitchen floor (old house).  Tim never complained about the many trips up and down the hatch, and the conditions in the low-ceilinged, dirt and stone basement.
Tim was very helpful in explaining what he did to remedy the situation. He even noticed that our boiler had a leak in it, which we had to repair.  Tim and another worker also had to take out an old water heater and carry it up through our narrow trap door, and bring in the new one.  Ours is not an easy basement to work in, but Tim has done a great job.
We've had excellent service from this company, and Tim is the latest example.

Plenty of good reviews below for this company but our experience has been very disappointing ... and without them even giving themselves the chance to do any work for us! Saga started back in the summer with Michael Henderson coming by to quote on renovating our master bathroom. Well presented and engaged and promised a proposal the following week. That was 5 months ago. Since then I've chased the office every 2 to 4 weeks and radio silence. Gave them plenty of opportunity to simply say they don't want my business (for whatever reason) and culminating in me leaving Michael a voicemail 2 days ago giving fair warning that I'd write this review if he didn't get back. And now I'm writing this review. Ridiculous take on (prospective) customer service. Unfortunately I need to leave at least one star for this review to be posted.

I wouldn't recommend them.

My General Contractor urged me to use Henderson over my plumber, and it was mistake.  Three things:

1. They left a mess between my floors.  Rather than clean things up, I believe Henderson's team just scooped up everything and threw it between by ceiling downstairs and the floor above when they re-did the bathroom?  How do I know this, because we replaced that part of the ceiling and the ceiling guys were astounded by how much stuff was just dumped in there - wood, scraps, floor debris.

2. Can't get the drain from the sink to work right.  Once, twice, still not working.  Gotta call my real plumber.

3. High-pressure sales.  We had a drainage problem with a waste pipe. After trying for about 10 minutes on a service visit, the Henderson guy was quickly writing up a $3500 excavation and replacement quote to fix a problem as early as the next day.  He hands me the paper and asks if I'm ready to sign up for today or tomorrow.   This is the part where I remind him that one doesn't just sign over $3500 on the spot, and I could hire another 30 plumbers to try the same thing because, He almost had it, but the blockage slipped out of his tool.  You would think somebody would try a little hard and help avoid charging you $3500.  The next day, we had a real contractor come out and for $120 and 15 minutes, we were cleared out just fine.  No excavation, no expensive replacements.  Just somebody who wanted to perform an honest job.

Will never hire again. Estimated 5-7 days for shower reno, took 15 days over the course of 6 weeks. 4 scheduling problems, 3 times didn't have the tile they needed, neglected to schedule the subcontractor to come out for the door, and the final slap in the face was when we came back from vacation to find that they used a different color tile on the trim that clashes with what's already there (with no explanation as to why they didn't consult us, or at least notify us before the big shocker when we got home). Been complaining to them weekly about the communication problems during this job, and they refused to make it right. They insist that this never happens and how sorry they are, but guess who's paying full price? Maybe they're better with leaks and such, I don't know, but they certainly don't care about my family or their customers' experience. Extremely stressful.

I hope to work with him again on future service calls for my AC unit.  Not knowing much about my AC unit, Tony was able to provide a thorough explanation of the age of my unit, future services that my unit will need and the issues I was having with the unit.  Tony was able to resolve the problem in a very short period of time and now I can understand and maintain my unit properly.  Thank you Tony! Have been using this company for heating issues with my last rental home (Wynnewood area) and now my current home (Media area). They are really wonderful. They bring out their guys fast and on time. All of the guys that have come are very helpful, knowledgeable and spend the time to teach you what's going on. Their prices may be a bit more expensive than a smaller company but in exchange you get emergency services on top. We called one time in the dead of winter with no heat on a Sunday at 7:30 and there was someone over by 8a. One of the technicians saw that I had children and after he was done with the job, left a couple coloring books for them too! ... which says nothing regarding how they are about how good of a job they do but it just shows that they're thoughtful people in general.

We live in a condo and woke up on the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend to find our tubs and toilets full of sewage.  We called Henderson Plumbing and then sent out Stephen, who was exceptionally professional and supportive.  He encouraged us to contact our condo association to see if they would cover the bill given that the problem was outside of our unit and not the result of our actions.  We had already dismissed the idea because we had had plumbing issues previously and had been told that it was our problem to address.  Thanks to Stephen's advice, we called and the bill was covered by the condo association - didn't cost us a dime!  He was also super careful in our small space as he worked to ensure that there was as little mess as possible.  It's that extra level of caring that makes this company one that we will go back to if the need arises again!

Paul B was very thorough in his review of the plumbing in my house.  Recommended several potential fixes throughout the house and prioritized what he would do if it were his house.  The most expensive items were NOT at the top of the list.  He wore shoe covers throughout the house.
