I'd stay away from this place if I was you!
On day 1 , the tech Justin was 2 hours late, though I was an end of day appointment so I can accept that the other jobs ran long. But, he also didn't bring any tools, so couldn't do the job that night.
On day 2, Justin showed up on time and quoted me 219 in labor costs + parts to run a water line to a new refrigerator. Seemed like a steep labor charge/hourly rate for something he even admitted would take less than an hour.
Justin finished the install and then went to write up my bill. He tells me that he ran out of fittings/circle clips and had to buy a bag of them for my job (my job used 2 I think, so he didn't have any in the truck apparently). Since he had to buy a bag, he was charging me for the entire bag of clips (~$100 extra in parts). Justin insisted this is Roto Rooter policy that someone just gets screwed along the way and it happened to be my turn.
Total bill for drilling 1 hole, running ~10 feet of pex, and installing a valve - $400.
I called Roto Rooter and spoke with Ryan who said he'd look into it. Ryan would not comment on whether one person gets screwed was official Roto-Rooter policy. I was refunded $120 as I might have been over charged for parts.
So, after making a fuss I was still charged $280 for 35-40 minutes of work and no more than $25 worth of parts.
$280 is less rage inducing, but clearly their plumbers are shady people out to scam anyone they can. Had I not made an issue out of it, this Justin guy would probably have just pocketed the money when he turned in expenses to the company. Slimy. Stay away!
Oh, and it actually just occurred to me that they only told me I would be refunded. We'll see what actually happens.
Update - the refund has shown up on my credit card, so that's good!
On a weird note, I was called by Roto-Rooter after writing this, not because their employee is a conman, but because I was too mean to them in this review. Their feeling was I should be grateful to get some of the money back they defrauded me out of. They seemed to think slimy was mean. How about felonious, then? I thought slimy was pretty gentle, but in the interest of honesty and Roto-Rooter's delicate sensibilities about their employees defrauding customers, I'll not use that mean ol S word any more.
I also still haven't been able to get anyone at Roto-Rooter to say whether or not someone just gets screwed is official company policy. When asked (and I have asked directly half a dozen times) , they change the subject or demure - so that's comforting.
Don't know what else to say. Roto-Rooter thinks I'm a big meany and I think a one star review after someone tries to scam me makes perfect sense. You decide I suppose.
