When my fan blower stopped working a few weeks ago, I called out Freedom to diagnose/fix the issue.  After they tried to tell me the best thing to do would be to replace the entire furnace for 1000's of dollars, I decided to get a second opinion.

Boy am I glad that I did-AND that I found ServiceMax.  Instead of assuming the worst case scenario, the tech was able to fix the issue by replacing a capacitor at a cost of only $187, all in.  They were honest, transparent, prompt and professional.

They've definitely won me over as a customer and I highly recommend!

This rating is just based on how good they are at keeping their word and being on time for appointment. I cannot rate their work because I did not have a chance to work with them.

Jose scheduled a free estimate for me for a project that is going to cost around $2,000+. Gave me a time frame of 8-12pm (I already received estimates from three other companies and each one gave me an exact time, not a 4-hour window). Long story short ServiceMax was a no show for the appointment. In case you are wondering the other three companies are Penco Electric, A-Phase Electric, and 123Voltage.

Since ServiceMax did not show up, I have some time to write this review. The appointment was for today.

I recently moved to the Evanston area. I was very unsure re: how to operate the Nes Pro thermostat that came with my condo unit. I had no clue how to use it to get my a/c working. I have never been good at operating basic mechanical equipment (let alone a device that appeared to me to be waaay out of my league). I am retired, have health issues for which a/c is needed.
I made Service Max aware of my issues. The technician and the office support staff went out of their way to help me. I insisted on having what appeared to me to be a tech saavy thermostat removed, and replaced.  He brought a few models for to me to consider. Gave great information that I could understand.  I selected the one that I felt confident in my ability to operate immediately upon installation. I slept soundly last night. Thanks Service Max. Oh, and he was here and gone in about 30-40 minutes.

I have a new condo with dual HVAC systems so I joined the ServiceMax service because it was a great deal. A technician came by to check out each one and did a very good job. Cleaned the reusable filter and cleaned the lines. Two weeks later I had a problem with one of the thermostats and called ServiceMax in to check it out. They were able to send a technician in within a few hours and he found the problem right away. First, I was shocked that I could see a technician on the same day. Jenny got that done. If you need a very good HVAC service I highly recommend ServiceMax. Thank you Jenny and Mike for helping me out that day. I'm a ServiceMax client forever.

Service Max(7855 Grosspoint Rd SteA3, Skokie,IL) is an unreliable company trying to use the pandemic as an excuse for sloppy business practices and mismanagement. On three different occasions I have had someone from their office call on the morning of the appointment to reschedule. These are not new appointments. This is an over  scheduling issue that management should be able to address and correct. Only schedule work for which you have enough employees to complete. I have had it with Service Max. I am also writing a letter to the Better Business Bureau.

Very disappointed with this business after seeing such amazing ratings. I recently went under contract on a mixed use commercial space and was under tight inspection period where I needed an estimate for electrical and plumbing work. Seeing the amazing reviews I reached out to ServiceMax and they said no problem I could get an estimate via sending my inspection report to them by the end of the day. That was over 3 days ago and I was forced to find another provider last minute this morning to help me. Very disappointed in the lack of responsiveness after multiple attempts to get a reply or update.

I just had ServiceMax install a full Spacepak system with high efficiency heat pump into my 90+ year old vintage home and couldn't be more happy with the service.  First, this was not the easiest installation considering the age of the house, electrical work needed, and old plaster ceilings; however, everything went off without any issue.  The crew was on time everyday, worked efficiently, and cleaned-up well everyday.  The best part about working with ServiceMax is the owner Mike is involved the whole way from quoting the project, answering my numerous questions, and doing the final inspection.  There are a ton of HVAC & electrical companies up here in the Northshore; however, having the owner involved as a normal course of business made my decision easy.  Highly recommend ServiceMAx.

With my recent acquisition of Tesla Model 3, I was in a dire need of getting a 220v (50amp) outlet. My circumstances are spectacularly complicated as I live in a condo-building with a common garage, which is probably the most complex of a situation. That said this was no problem for ServiceMax!

I've gotten quotes from 5 contractors and while there are cheaper options, let me tell you - you want to get a professional company that is properly bonded and insured and that is comfortable with obtaining the needed permits to get a job like this completed. ServiceMax checked all of that and more:

- They showed up on time for both the estimate and the actual job.
- Their estimate was delivered the same day they visited me, written out clearly on company's letterhead.
- Once I decided to sign them up, their office manager contacted me for payment options (they accept credit card), provided me with Certificate of Insurance, and a permit, all within 1 business day. No follow-up needed on my end, no begging and pleading, no stress.

They have just installed a solution with a lock, because I park in a common garage shared with other owners. They completed the entire job in 7 hours with 2 technicians working around the clock. They're currently patching up my dry wall and cleaning up. Can I say I LOVE THESE GUYS?!?!

I'm trying to figure out what other electrical work I need just so I can give them more business.

I would summarize ServiceMax in a few words - Prompt & courteous, reasonably priced and hassle-free.  

I needed a new plumber after the one I had been using retired. Very glad I went with ServiceMax.

The water shut-off valve for my toilet needed to be replaced because the original part started to leak. I contacted ServiceMax via Yelp and, within minutes, they replied. After a few messages we scheduled a day & time.

The plumber arrived on time - and within a very specific period I needed (our building was doing a building-wide water shut-off during a specific time, which presented the opportunity to get the work done without a water shut-off fee).  As well, he couldn't have been more professional and expeditious. The work was completed within about 45 minutes.  I attached a picture of the new shut-off valve - very clean and solid work.

After the work was completed, an auto-generated bill was sent via email with a link. The payment portal was totally hassle-free (I was worried it was going to be a complex web form.  It was not).  After entering the requested data, a receipt instantly appeared for printing. As well, a receipt was instantly sent via email for saving (which I did). The price was extremely reasonable - and, honestly, about half of what I anticipated paying.  Plumbing work can be costly.

I would recommend this company with 100% confidence. Should the need arise, I will not hesitate to use their services again.

Unfortunately, this company blew me off three times. 1st didn't respond to message. I then called and made the first appointment , they cancelled right before they we're suppose to arrive, we rescheduled and exact same thing happened again, right before arrival time called  and wanted to reschedule. I understand things happen but they just weren't interested in my project. I wish they would have just said no from the get go and not waste my time.

I had an emergency at a rental building on a Tuesday night.  ServiceMax was out within 30 minutes, fixed the broken pipes and was a lifesaver.  Best in the business!

You get what you pay for. I had 4hours of work and Jeff did a great job. And at their busiest period, Jose kept in touch to let me know when they could do the jobs I had on my list. Ceiling fan install and the new lights look great. And thank you for fixing a few that were broken.

After moving into a new (old) home and discovering many issues we called multiple HVAC companies and couldn't be happier we chose Malek. Every person has been kind, promptly responsive and a pleasure to work with. Their prices are fair for a job well done and they've gone above and beyond, even helping with advice on plumbing issues.

Sign up for the loyalty program! Recently we had water in our crawl space we thought was coming from the HVAC unit. Not only did they come out within 30mins on a Saturday night, they discovered it was actually a plumbing problem and spent time figuring out where it was coming from and what needed to be done instead of just saying not the HVAC, sorry and leaving which would have been fair.

To address the bad reviews regarding scheduling- we haven't had a single problem ACTUALLY, recently when I forgot to cancel an appointment only to have them show up they were very understanding.

There's a reason they're highly rated. Look no further!

Scheduled an appointment in Mid July for a consultation and estimate to have my HVAC replaced.   Sales consultant came and spent significant time in my home evaluating my current system and needs.   I actually really like him and he seemed knowledgeable.  
Waited for 2 weeks and never received an estimate. I called malek to inquire and was told the sales guy knew I wasn't going to do anything until the fall and he was working on an estimate.  One month later, still no estimate, no proposal, no phone call.   Gee guess my business isn't a priority.  Very confusing indeed!

We hired Malek to install a ceiling fan with a light in our guest room.

When their electrician Peter first came out, he discovered that we did not have the appropriate electrical box to hold the weight of a fan, so it was going to require a trip to HomeDepot to get the necessary parts. There was an added fee ($50) for the trip, but we were grateful that he could go and come back in the same day instead of having to reschedule the appointment and leaving us with a hole in the ceiling.

After getting the fan installed, Peter discovered that we were sent the wrong control switch when we bought the fan, so the light feature couldn't be dimmed as it was intended. He was able to offer an immediate solution, but had to go back to HomeDepot for more parts. Not only were we again grateful that he was able to go and comeback in the same day, but we weren't charged an additional fee for the service--they only charge you once, even if they need to make multiple trips for parts!

Unfortunately, even after attempting to fix the light feature, it was still not dimming properly. It turned out, that we weren't sent the wrong control switch, we were sent the completely wrong light package for our fan (this was the fault of the online company we purchased the fan from, not Malek). That meant we had to wait for the correct parts to be sent to us and reschedule Malek to come back out to uninstall the wrong light fixture and install the correct one.

Malek was able to get us a second appointment quickly and they even sent Peter back out. It was really nice to have the same electrician who knew our exact problem! Once we had the correct parts, the fix was super quick and easy...and we weren't charged any additional fees for the reinstallation!!

Technically, Malek's fee for the fan installation ($275) was hirer than a few other places we got quotes from, but the customer service was so great, we felt like we got a good deal and we would absolutely use them again and recommend them to anyone!

We also had Peter install a dimmer switch in our master bedroom--that process was entirely problem free. It seemed a bit expense ($150) considering it's a relatively easy DIY project, but the electrical in our house was not done very well and it was just nice to have it all taken care of.

Now that we know what a great company Malek is, we will also plan to use them in the future for their heating and cooling services.

We had problems with our brand new dishwasher not working. They were super responsive and fixed our problem. Really appreciated their service and customer service as well.  I would highly recommend hiring their services. Everyone was great- Jose, Mike and Sandy.

Complete waste of time! I was having issues with a tankless water heater and contacted Mike. They could not seem less interested. At first I was texting information and pictures that were requested but I have not had any sort of communication with them since I was told a part needed to be ordered. I was asked to send pictures. I sent pictures of the water heater and model number 10 days ago. Since then I have not even received a reply to the text message. They have done nothing but waste my time and caused me to be without heat in a portion of my home for over two weeks. There is no way I could possibly feel the need or want to use them for anything in the future.

This is a past due review. Mike, one of the owners, was the one who came. He was so patient and understanding knowing that I had to call for a service at my condo on a weekend, then suddenly learning that our building maintenance did not leave the ceiling door open. Mike was so considerate enough that we just rescheduled for the next day. He was able to fix the issue and was very helpful. He reassured me that he can be reached if I would have any other issues afterwards. Its been 2 weeks already and things are running just fine. I definitely recommend ServiceMax.

Made & kept the appointment on time to fix my A/C but they severely overcharged me - only because it was a hot summer day and they were busy.

For a job that took only 30 minutes and to replace a part that costs around $150 online - they billed me $850+

So definitely some price gouging going on in their busy days. I'd avoid them.

When we turned on our air conditioning for the first time this year during a heat wave, it blew warm air.  I looked to Yelp and found Malek Heating & Cooling.  They were local and had great reviews.  I called them, and they could not get anyone out for 2 more days.  We booked an appointment.  Mike Malek came out on a day of rain and storms and diagnosed the problem.  He worked in the rain and until it was dark to get our AC running.  Both he and the office staff were personable and easy to work with.  Mike seems to really know what he is doing.  

The only thing that I found strange was that they charge your credit card for the service when you schedule the appointment, not when they come out and do the work.  I can't speak to their prices, as we had to have the work done as soon as possible, and did not get quotes from other companies. Our repair was over a thousand dollars.  The bottom line is they do good work, are responsive and easy to work with.

I have had consistently good service with Service Max and Malek Heating and Cooling before that. I like being on the scheduled maintenance program, because it's one less thing I have to remember to do. The service men come out when they say they will. Never had a hard time getting an appointment.

Excellent service from a trustworthy company.  Have used them a few times from routine HVAC check-ups to HVAC repairs and replacing a water heater.  Calls are answered almost immediately and if not they call back in a timely manner.  Both the HVAC and Water Heater issues were taken care of same day (next day for water heater since original consult showed needing a replacement unit) but their rates were very reasonable and they don't gauge for 'emergency' service calls.  Their techs have always showed up at the scheduled time and been fast but professional.  It's refreshing having a service firm you can count on for both excellent service and fair treatment.

They couldn't execute. We scheduled a Friday morning visit (scheduled it earlier in the week so it wasn't last minute). They were scheduled to visit between the hours of 8am-12pm. They notified us at 12:05pm that they overbooked and would not be able to help. We called them multiple times that day and they could have saved us troubles by notifying us first thing, but they were not organized. Would not recommend.

Excellent, excellent service. They were installing my furniture, hvac and water heater during some bad weather and they always kept me in the loop, ended up doing the install over two days. As for the install itself these guys are pros and left everything very neat and make a concerned effort to keep their work area clean. Both days that they showed up they were on time and even called when they were near by. Excellent experience and would definitely recommend them they also offer financing.

Called then on Monday, scheduled an  appointment for Wednesday evening. The person taking the appointment said they would call when they are on the way. When I didn't hear from them on Wednesday I called them. This time the person said I will have then call you. That was the last I heard from them. I never saw them.

I called out Malek primarily for an electrician. They were able to send out Steve (electrician) within the same day. He was extremely polite, helpful and even gave me some great tips on home automation products. In hooking up the nest (there were some wiring issues), he checked the furnace and noticed it was pretty filthy. Since we had just purchased the house, we figured we'd go ahead and get it cleaned.

I was told over the phone that I would be charged $79 for a service visit which would include cleaning the furnace, cleaning the AC condenser on the roof, and running the additional wiring needed for the nest. The following day, as the service was being done we were told that $79 only covered a part of those services and the total was actually going to be over $200. I really appreciated the service provided by Steve. I think he went above and beyond. I was a little annoyed with the breakdown in communication that led to us signing up for an extra service we didn't intend to, and paying more in the process.

UPDATED 5/17/17:
Malek customer service contacted me, apologized for the mix-up, and offered a complimentary service in order to compensate for the mix-up. Appreciate the fast response and dedication to customer satisfaction. I would definitely use Malek again in the future.

Superstars!  Maintenance and customer support as it is meant to be.  These people are polite, prompt, on time, reasonably priced and competent.   Even during the intense heat of this summer they refuse to rip off their customers by jacking up prices like their competitors have.

I wholheartedly recommend these people.  It's hard to find honest and capable business people.  When you do, they need to be rewarded with more work.

These guys are outstanding.  They replaced our furnace and ac unit all in one day.  They were very professional.  Left the place clean and were competitively priced.  I used Mike and his crew 8 years ago when I had a minor issue with my furnace.  I am so thankful that I saved his number from that service call.

After 1.5 years in our new open concept home we had finally had enough of the extreme temps between the three floors.  Mike diagnosed that the original installers had incorrectly sized the return duct and filter.  Also, the home had never been balanced.  His crew did a great job of fixing the issue and installing the upgrades.  The system could finally breathe correctly and the temps were more even.  He came back a few weeks later to tweak the balance and everything is great.  On Mike's recommendations we added a Dynamic Air Cleaner and a Guardian UV Air cleaner.  The house is cleaner and our allergies are almost nonexistent now.  We've signed up for yearly maintenance.  Mike is extremely knowledgable and great to work with.

We had a tankless water heater break and Malek was very responsive to inspect and replace the unit. He also identified and fixed venting that was not installed correctly by the original owner. Overall great service and reasonable prices; I highly recommend Malek and am very glad to have hot water again in February in Chicago :)

Malek H&C is simply as good as they get.  They do the routine troubleshooting and annual maintenance very well, and they handle the more complicated things in stride.  They work efficiently and purposely -- never do they drag a job out to run up the bill.  They are prompt, conscientious, courteous, and they always clean up after the job.  It is truly one of the best companies -- of any kind -- that I've ever encountered.

Malek Heating & Cooling has been a truly a blessing for me and my home heat and A/C and hot water heater.  I live alone and needed help with the boiler on a very cold day - I went on YELP and entered GAS BOILER MAINTENANCE at 8:00 at night.  Malek HVAC came up and I called them.  They were out in less than 1 hour and had the boiler running and the house warm.  I have used them for all my needs in HVAC for 4 years.  I have never been disappointed.  They are prompt, courteous, and reasonably priced.  Thanks YELP for helping me find them!

I cannot rave enough about Mike and this company. I purchased a trane furnace because my other one broke down after 11 years. Mike immediately saw that the previous unit was installed wrong and pitch which caused water inside and unit rusted and secondary cracked. He explained things to us and yes I got several quotes and Service Max gave me the best offer. But it was Mike and his professionalism his knowledge and time given to us why we went with him. His technicians were extremely knowledgeable and installed it within a few days of us ordering it. The day after the installation Mike came out and inspected everything. I had some questions about a noise out of one of my cold air returns and an odor. He immediately explained the odor was due to new electronic filter installed asked if I would like to adjust it. Also showed me how to take filters and unit apart to clean.Also knew immediately why some noise out of only one cold air return and was able to fix it. Noticed right away that previous installers also connected humidifier to hot water not cold. His girl Sandy was always courteous and professional. Checking in on us ..I can go on and on but the bottom line is I highly recommend Mike and his company and crew. I just wish I used him 11 years ago.  Thank you Mike

My a/c stopped working during a very hot Chicago weekend.  Mike with Malek Cooling came out quickly and saved the day.  I originally contacted another company that I had found in the yellow pages.  They misdiagnosed my problem and the system still wasn't cooling.  I spoke with Mike, and after he checked everything out, was able to fix it right away.  He is very professional and extremely pleasant to work with. My condominium association president was so impressed with his work, she plans on using Malek for our all of our building's heating and cooling needs. Highly recommended.

If you have a boiler you should be using Malek Heating and Cooling.  In addition to being excellent and professional at what they do, they must be just about the nicest people in the business. They replaced my boiler, did a quality job, corrected the previous company's mistakes, and then went above and beyond the call of duty, taking care of extraneous items that technically were not part of the job. They are the best.

The previous company was Four Seasons, but Yelp filtered my review.

I've been using Malek Heating & Cooling for three years now. Started with annual preventive maintenance in our furnaces and then had our a/c units looked at recently. Last week we needed a new hot water heater and had almost no hot water. Mike and team were on-site in under 48 hours, had new unit installed and at a very decent price. I would highly recommend Malek H&C.

Our Central Air conditioner was not working. There was no air for a week. I was looking on the internet for a reliable company. Then I found Malek Heating and Cooling. I was reading their customer reviews. They have all 5 stars rating. I called them 6/07/2011 around noon. Mike called me back. He said he will come late at night. Mike came and fixed our air conditioner. Mike said he will come back the next day to replace our thermostat.I highly recommend this company to anyone looking for heating and cooling services. They are very reasonable compared to other companies out there. George and Mike are very nice guys! Thank you very much!

I was introduced to Mike Malek through our home inspector who highly recommended him.  After discovering some major issues with the HVAC system of a new home purchase, we had Mike come out to examine the system thoroughly.  You can tell immediately that Mike is an expert in his field and after asking many questions and doing an examination gave his opinion on the situation.  I think a lot of contractors, specifically in the HVAC field, cut corners and do things cheaply but you can tell Mike is fixated on doing things correctly which is definitely refreshing.  We are definitely planning on using Malek Heating and Cooling again.

I had them remove the old water heater, AC unit and furnace and move some piping around and they did a terrific job! They maximized the spaced in my basement and the unit is running great and haven't had a problem. Been over 8 months now and not a single issue. Units run great and their customer service is top notch! All their employees were professional and would recommend them to any of my friends and family! Great guys! A+ Reliable, honest and trustworthy.

We moved to the area 3 years ago and when the first issue with our furnace came up, I googled and found Malek Heating and Cooling. I called and they came out the next day to fix it. We have had nothing but trouble with our system in the three years, last week the furnace started leaking again and we found out, there was a bigger problem. Mike suggested replacing the system (it was 20+ yrs old), a week later the new system was installed and it is amazing (the crew was very polite and clean). Mike and his crew is very knowledgeable and polite. No matter what problem comes up, they are here the same day or next to fix it. No matter what questions I have, I get them answered. I can only recommend Malek Heating and Cooling, they are fantastic! Thanks for the great service!

We were very impressed with Malek Heating & Cooling. Our old air conditioning system gave out on one of the hottest days this summer.  Our repairman said that it was not worth repairing, since it was over 26 years old. We decided to get four estimates. We called Malek Heating & Cooling in the morning and asked for an estimate to replace both our furnace and air conditioner, and a technician came out the very same day. He arrived on time and was very knowlegeable. The salesperson in the office was also very impressive. We called a couple of times with questions and she got the information right back to us. She also emailed information to us. We decided, in the end, to use another vendor, but our experience and impression of Malek's technician, salesperson, and overall responsiveness to our calls was very favorable. We thought the customer service was prompt, responsive, and very helpful, We were impressed with both the great customer service and good products that are offered.

I can't say enough about the great service that Mike Malek has provided to address my heating needs.  Being new to the area, I have tried a couple HVAC guys.  Mike is very pleasant to deal with, and he provides a sense of trustworthiness, and his rates are competitive.

Mike was on time and very knowledgeable.  I would definitely call him again. He explain everything well and took his time to fix the issue.  The best part is that he came after hours so I don't have to take time off of work and he didn't charge extra for it.
