Thumbs Up made my dreams come true!
We've wanted a second bathroom (or at least a second toilet) for years and finally decided to make it happen. The plan was to move our washer/dryer into the kitchen, remove the old standard water heater and install an on-demand water heater outside and then install a toilet and (hopefully) a tiny sink.
I got bids from three plumbers. Unlike anything else I've ever done, all three bids came back with almost the exact same price. All three had great reviews on Yelp/Google, so the decision came down to communication style. Sal from Thumbs Up was the person I felt most comfortable with and wasn't worried about working out details if something went wrong (which didn't happen!).
When I was ready to start, Sal was too. He gave me some advice about sink and toilet choice and then let his team get to work. Edgar did a great job converting the existing laundry box to sink plumbing, installing a new laundry box and the toilet. Gabe was on the water heater...removing the old, rerouting the gas and installing the new one. I never even noticed the change, just had lovely hot water! Once the bathroom was ready, Gabe came back and did a great job installing the toilet and got the new tiny sink to work (even finding a matching drain cover that worked when the one I bought was wrong). And he solved the mystery of the hot water not working in our existing bathroom.
I LOVE my new bathroom, washer/dryer, water heater and I'll be calling Thumbs Up next time I have any plumbing work. Thank you Sal, Gabe and Edgar!

i've used thumbs up twice - first time for repairing pipes in the garage and the 2nd floor of the building i manage, second time for an emergency flood one of my residents had.
sal & gabe are the two i'm most familiar with. there's a younger gentleman that works with them too but i'm not familiar with his name. nonetheless, the guys are extremely kind and respectful.
the emergency i had, i called sal and he sent gabe over within the next 30 mins. gabe worked the unit from 2-7 vacuuming the water out the sink and using a snake for a couple hours. he also repaired the pipe under the kitchen sink which was also leaking. sal even came out for a little bit to help translate for my resident because there was a language barrier.
if you're looking for reliable, punctual, extremely reasonably priced, thumbs up is definitely the guys to call. thank you sal & gabe for everything you guys have done! definitely my go-to plumbers, they should be yours too.

Eddie came out within around 2hrs of us calling at 8am for a blocked kitchen drain. He snaked the line, which was too long for my short snake, with a 75ft professional machine and verified it was flowing by checking the sewer connection in the street. He needed to remove the kitchen sink trap to do this and ended up repairing that while he was here.
All round professional and friendly service and no problem recommending Eddie again. Thank you!
Excellent communication all the way through. Gabe was fantastic identifying the issue and fully resolving and the end result is the repair made the shower run better than it ever had. I will be using these folks for all my future plumbing needs.

I would give 4 thumbs up if I could!! Eddie was responsive, efficient, friendly, and transparent with the process and pricing. He fixed a bad job another plumber did a few weeks ago and the fee was way more reasonable. Bonus points for extra labor to get to the main sewer line to identify any clogging.

Gabe did a great job! I was worried that any mistakes could affect other units in my building. No leaks and done right the first time.
Another plumber was going to charge me double. I'm glad I shopped around. Yelp came through again. They gave me an accurate estimate and stuck to it. Payment was easy through Venmo. I would highly recommend this business.
Awesome, awesome, awesome! After calling several plumbers who were too busy to get back to me, or quoted shockingly high rates, I contacted Thumbs Up. I texted them my issue and got a quick and polite response, with a preliminary estimate, questions answered, and a time to do the work the next morning. They were on time, did impeccable work, charged me not a penny more than the estimate (and even threw in a hose that I should have bought for free).

HONESTY & INTEGRITY... Extremely pleased w/the service and money I saved. Another popular local company (A.N.) quoted me more than double and was dishonest regarding my plumbing issue. Gabe arrived, fixed the issue and clearly explained the fix. Surprisingly, he quickly diagnosed a separate issue I had with a shower, ran to HD for the part and promptly repaired it! Gabe's an asset to this company. Truly a Thumbs Up experience!
Gabe killed it! Super quick and efficient with replacing pipes in our kitchen sink to stop a leak. Plus he had a great attitude!
We were having issues with our sewer line clogging and I figured after 20 years in our house, we probably needed a new sewer lateral. One plumber came out, saw we didn't had a proper size cleanout so couldn't put his camera in easily and then just gave us a quote for the full lateral ($$$).
Sal from Thumbs Up came out, saw the same thing, then came back the next day with an assistant and a ladder to get his camera in the top vent from the roof. Discovered a clog. Didn't charge us for that visit since the camera couldn't get far. His crew came out the next day to snake the drain through the toilet, and in the process discovered we had lots of calcium buildup in the toilet, but our old clay pipes are in fine shape. So instead of thousands of dollars for a new lateral, we're looking at a few hundred for a new toilet.
Super impressed with Sal and I could tell he conveys to everyone who works for him that they want happy, repeat customers, even if that means discovering that a house is a $500 job and not a $5,000 job.

Adding another 5 star sterling review. We have an old house with galvanized pipes, and we know we're living on borrowed time. Okay, cool - but then the kitchen sink water pressure plummeted overnight to a slow trickle, and a neighbor put me in touch with Sal.
Sal was in touch right away, super knowledgeable and easy, and straightforward about costs, which I really appreciated. We agreed to have him send a guy out with no guarantee that we'd actually be able to fix things, because these pipes do pass a point of no return sometimes.
And I just now bid adieu to Gabe, who not only aced the kitchen repair, but also managed to fix our leaking shower that has been a steady drip for at least 6 months now (when other plumbers had told me to not even try). (For the record, we've been collecting the drip in a bucket to water our plants lol.)
Gabe was simply fantastic. Easygoing, clearly a total pro, and personally delightful.

Super easy from start to finish. We basically handled all the scheduling via text. Gabe came out to scope out the issues and came up with a plan because we needed to shut off the water for the building. He was very easy to work with, was on time both days, and friendly throughout. I know nothing about plumbing and he made it very easy to understand what was going on and how to fix both problems with the kitchen sink and shower. Honestly, I hope I don't have more plumbing issues, but if I do, I know who I'm calling.

I live in an eight-story mixed-used building and my unit is on the lowest residential floor, at the bottom of the stack of condos. My building's common drain was clogged and my kitchen sink was in danger of flooding my condo if units above started running dishwashers, etc. I spoke with Sal about it and the potential danger/damage if it wasn't dealt with quickly. He was very responsive, de-prioritized a less urgent job on his schedule, and got Eddy in there the next morning. He arrived right on time and got right to work, explaining exactly what he was doing and what he was encountering as he snaked out the common drain pipe. Problem solved in about 90 minutes. Drain works fine now, disaster averted.
Will totally call them in the future.
Recently bought a home and had to have my sewer lateral redone (required by the city), a wax seal repaired on a toilet, and a tankless water heater (that I supplied) installed to replace the previous one. All of this was spread out over the course of about a month as I've got a fairly busy work schedule. Sal was a pleasure to work with. He and his crew were able to get every job done on the day they would show up. Edgar, specifically, installed the tankless and took care of disposing of the older unit and did a fantastic job.
Invoices were delivered quickly, and would list exactly what steps would be taken. The price was more than fair given the work I needed done.
It was also easy to stay in touch with folks via text to get updates on when/where they were going to be.
Absolutely know who I'm going to call if I ever have a plumbing issue

Gabe did an excellent job fixing a previous contractor's mistake. No more leaks or loose faucets that were installed under a very tight space. He went over everything in detail, was prompted, and quick and responsive to all questions.
Another great experience from Thumbs Up Rooter! I had a few constant and annoying issues with a toilet - couldn't fix it myself. So I called Thumbs Up and Gabe was able to make it over before the end of the day. He assessed the problem, explained it to me in detail and was able to fix the toilet quickly and thoroughly. Gabe was professional, helpful and even gave me some tips on fixing some larger issues at a later date (no pressure in the moment whatsoever). Thanks, Gabe! This was the fastest most efficient plumbing call I've ever made! I had a grody clogged toilet that I had tried everything with. And a short window of time before going back to work. Sal picked up the phone and managed to get 2 of his guys over to my house within 30 min (Gabe and Eddie..? maybe I got the names wrong everything was so wonderfully fast) even though they had other jobs ahead of me. They were very courteous, capable, and efficient! They fixed the clog in minutes and noticed that I also had a filler valve issue. Fixed that too on the spot so I wouldn't have future problems. They were in and out in 30 minutes. I believe the cost was reasonable but i'm not an expert. Highly recommended!

In a city like Oakland where nightmare tenants are enabled to trash homes without any recourse, I often feel overwhelmed as a home owner/property manager. There's so many companies out there that take advantage of this and it's hard knowing who you can rely on without feeling ripped off. We are a disabled household, who woke up one morning to no hot water. I called Thumbs Up Rooter&Plumbing who came to my home in less than thirty minutes. They assessed the problem, our water heater was gone. The owner/partnership explained what it would take to replace it with a new one and the labor cost. In two days we had a brand new water heater installed, the old one removed and taken away, and the area where it belonged was cleaned. This company was fast, efficient and professional.

Super responsive! He answered during a job, took my info and said he would check to confirm his availability for the next morning to help with a clogged toilet as soon as he finished his current job. Confirmed within 1.5 hours that he'd be there first thing the next day. On top of that he was super gracious when I cancelled the appointment that evening after someone in my house cleared the clog. If we get another stubborn clog I'm calling him first. Definitely 2 Thumbs Up on courtesy and response time !!!

Asked for a quote to fix a leak in my kitchen faucet pull-out hose. Sal quoted me $200+ in labor to replace the entire faucet vs just the hose. That does not even include the cost of my faucet which itself retails for $400+. I'd sent a video with a visible tear to get the virtual quote.
Having seen enough YouTube videos I was convinced it's just a hose issue so ordered a new hose from Amazon for $20 and got it replaced by another plumber (Infinity). They installed the new hose in about 5 min, leak is completely gone and it works like brand new. Best part they did not even charge me since it was so trivial!! That's how you get repeat business

Summary: Hire Sal - you won't go wrong.
The other reviews don't lie... if anything they understate how great Sal and his team are - solid work, great price, AND - no joke - pet friendly!
I closed on a two bed one bath house built in 1926 that needed a lot of love - water heater was deemed unsafe by PG&E (it was venting into the garage), the plumbing was galvanized and in bad shape, and it looked like a lot of the plumbing was done by the last owner, and the toilet & tub leaked and angled the opposite way they should have been... and more.
I had two other plumbers come in for quotes (and one that just never showed) and Sal was competitive on everything. He worked with me to figure out the best possible way of replacing my water heater and ran through multiple scenarios ranging from replacing a 40-gallon tank with the same (funky ventilation made this really difficult) as well as what it would take to put in a tankless. He's great at communicating, was really reliable, responded faster than anyone else I spoke with, AND taught my puppy a new trick (circles, in case you're interested).
If you're curious here is a list of the work I had done (and could not be happier with):
- Installed a seismic gas shut-off
- Replaced all my galvanized plumbing with new copper
- Installed a tankless water heater on the outside of the house (in a much better location than the previous one)
- Removed and disposed of my previous tankless water heater
- Removed and disposed of all galvanized pipe, 25'+ of gas line that was no longer necessary, and old vent pipe
- Replaced old exterior 1920's gate valve with new ball valve for easier water shut off
- Relocated laundry supply lines and drain
- Adjusted slope of both bathtub and toilet drains
- FOUND AND CAPPED AN OPEN SEWER PIPE that was just chilling in my crawl space letting rats come in
- I feel like there was probably something else, I'm just forgetting now
The team worked fast, were great to deal with, the work was solid and the price was great. I highly recommend them.
If I need anything in the future Thumbs Up and Sal are my go-to plumbers.

What started as a scary crazy situation, water gushing from our ceiling, ended with a clear assessment of the problem and a temporary solution until we figure out what to do. I recently had to call Thumbs Up Plumbing to clear my sewer line. The owner, Sal, responded immediately and was able to get his crew out the next morning. They cleared the line but unfortunately it backed up again two days later.
As soon as I called Sal again he was able to get
his guys out immediately. This time they brought a camera and determined the line was in bad shape
and should be replaced. No surprise. Part of the line was clay, over 80 years old and surrounded by tree roots. Not long after, Sal, along with his partner, were able to replace the line via the trenchless method. They not only replaced the line
they did it with less impact on my yard than I could have imagined. They also did a great job cleaning up.
Sal charged a fair price and was very accessible whenever I had any questions. I would highly recommend Sal to anyone who needs a plumber.
We broke our main water line and Sal and his team were able to come out and repair it in less than one hour! Super responsive and comparable pricing as others! We had other plumbing service providers check out the work needed, but they were not able to fix it immediately and requested an appointment the following day. With a main water line break, we needed it repaired immediately so we can have water back to our house. Thumbs up Rooter and Plumbing has special equipment that could repair the pipe with residual water leak - no soldering needed! They truly came to our rescue! Highly recommend!!
If you need a good plumber in the East Bay, look no further than ThumbsUp! Great service, good prices and they are nice to work with. I had them replace 2 commercial sump pumps and clogged toilets for a nursery school. They know what they are doing, and I have not been disappointed with the outcome.

I was not looking forward to calling a plumber but I had quite a pleasant experience. Gabe insisted on removing his shoes and that meant just as much to me as fixing my sink, which he finished soon after he arrived. Gabe cleaned up behind himself and left me with new disposal and I'm very thankful for his service. Also payment option made things very convenient.
Unbelievable customer service! Got back to me within minutes. Eddie was out to my apartment within an hour. Clogged shower stall drain. I tried to fix myself but had no luck. He had it unclogged and back in working condition within 15 minutes! Totally affordable as well....I was scared to call as have heard horror stories about the rates plumbing companies charge. Call them, they are to be trusted.

Quick to respond with an estimate. Showed up with required parts, but totally willing to do free on site estimate. It was nice to hire a local family owned business.
Got a quote from Sal last week. He was very helpful and did not price gouge. We set up the replacement for today. Sal was able to get us in earlier and confirmed that it was acceptable.
Eddie arrived on time and was very helpful.
He explained everything and got the job done per the quote.
Our hardware was very old and Eddie managed to take it off without going into the wall. He really wanted to do the job without incurring extra charges.

My toilet had stopped working, a shower was slow draining and I had a houseful of guests arriving! I called, got a call back in a very few minutes and was offered a VERY prompt time for service. Eddie came right on time, and had pulled the toilet and cleared a deep old pipe blockage, reseated the toilet, cleaned up that bathroom and cleared the shower drain and was finished just as the guest began to arrive!! Eddie is my hero - friendly, thorough, competent!

This company did a fantastic job installing my sink faucet and fixing a leaking problem under the sink. They did extra work without adding cost. They were flexible with my working schedule, timely, quick, and focused on completing the job. Most of all they made sure it all work was done perfectly before leaving. Our ancient bathroom had leaks in both tub and sink faucets and a phantom flushing toilet. All components original from late 1950s. Gabe showed up and worked miracles. Most components no longer made but he managed to find substitutes and carefully fitted them in. Left no messes for me to clean up. Swept and mopped the floor when done. In addition he was a very pleasant person to have in one's home. Would not hesitate to recommend and will use in future for anything else that comes up.

Sal has done two separate jobs on our old 1920's house in Oakland, one to replace our hot water heater on short notice (finished in 24 hours from my first phone call) and another to switch out the old galvanized pipes to copper while installing a whole house water filtration system.
I work in the commercial construction industry and highly recommend Thumbs Up Rooter and Plumbing. Sal (the owner) was super quick to review, estimate and complete the work while being honest and honoring his original bid on both projects. The copper work is really clean and I'm very happy with the end result.

After we discovered an old pipe under the house had completely worn out, we went looking for a good plumber to make the repair. Many were slow to respond and recommended repairs that were invasive, unnecessarily destructive, and way overpriced. Not Thumbs Up. They were responsive and professional. They sent out a smart plumber who correctly diagnosed the problem, provided a fair and honest estimate, and began work immediately to make repairs after we approved their bid. Sal, Edgar, and the team were great in a full re-plumb and re-pipe for gas, along with tankless hot water install. Worked included full re-plumb to main supply in copper, distribution in PEX, re-pipe of gas from the meter, new drain lines to the crawl space, and tankless water heater install in the attic.
They bailed us out the week before Christmas when our other plumber got sick after cutting our hot water heater to start a re-plumb. He stepped in to take over the job and got us hot water on Christmas Eve!
Sal went above and beyond to try to fix a clog, including mechanical snaking, hydro-jetting, and finally re-routing the plumbing. Even when he didn't have to.
They do good, solid work, respond to text, and are affordably priced.
Dealt with many of the quirks my old house offered up without problem.
Responsive, but two days out for a visit.
Will try them in the future.

Had them replace a garbage disposal and a leak below our kitchen sink. They replaced all pipes with PVC below sink, installed a quality disposal and the owner responded quickly when we had a question.
Also got a referral from them to help with electrical issue (due to leak), which was helpful so we don't have to explain to electrician what needs to be looked at.
Would use them again in the future when I need help.

We woke this morning to find both of our toilets backed up. Sal responded almost instantly when I reached out. He told me Eddie could be there between 9 and 10 am, and Eddie and a co-worker were right on time. I explained to Eddie that I had an appointment to go to in an hour, and they got straight to work. They had my system snaked out and were done in plenty of time for me to make my appointment. They were professional and personable, and did a great job. I'm VERY grateful -- disaster averted!

Very satisfied with the service we received! Sal came in to check our pipes in the crawl space and was very knowledgeable and honest about what needed to be fixed now and what might cause problems later. The job took 3 days and was completed on time.
I appreciate the care Sal took when we thought an adapter he installed for our gas laundry wasn't compatible with our new machines. It ended up being okay but he went the extra mile to come back to change what he thought didn't fit our machine.

We have been using Sal and his team for months now. We have had various plumbing and gas related repairs needed at our Oakland home. They are always on time and explain what needs to be done. They do quality work every time. One time i tried to install my new dishwasher and it was leaking everywhere. I was ready to return it. They came out, diagnosed the issue and fixed it. They do awesome work every time we use them. I couldn't be happier with their service. Each Technician that comes out is friendly, communicative and efficient. I would recommend Sal and his team for any of your plumbing needs.
Great customer service, reasonable price, and quick! I texted Sal about our leaking kitchen sink and sent a couple of pictures of the issue. Sal responded soon after with a quote and their availability. They came out the next day and though they needed to do a little more work than anticipated, they were able to complete the work quickly and for a reasonable price. I hope we don't any any more plumbing emergencies, but if we do, I know I'll be calling Thumbs Up Rooter and Plumbing!

Strongly recommended!
I finally got a new dishwasher from Home Depot but it cannot be installed due to a leak under the kitchen sink. Sal came up to take a look and pinpoint the problem. He assigned Edgar. They were quick and knowledgeable. I missed the cord for one of the appliances, Edgar came back with the cord and finished the rest.
My overall experience was positive. They were easy to communicate, friendly, fast response, price reasonable, and reliable.

Sal and Edgar were great to work with. They fit us into their schedule on short notice and did a great job. Sal was extremely responsive to my texts, keeping me in the loop on everything. Highly recommend.
I'm glad we found Sal to help bring our sewer lateral up to code. He and his crew got the work done at a reasonable price. Sal also took care of getting the permit and certification. I also appreciate the way he communicated with me: he sent me regular updates to keep me in the loop throughout the process.
We came home from vacation to find our water main at our 85 year old home had a serious leak. EBMUD confirmed it was our side, so lucky us, we get to pay to fix it. Took a few days to get different approaches/estimates from four plumbers and found that Sal from Thumbs Up had the least invasive and most affordable approach to replace the old galvanized water main with new copper line. Edgar and his worker showed up the next day to start the project which required some troubleshooting and creative fixes and a lot of digging! They were super polite, on time, communicative, and genuinely wanted to help us get the water back on asap. Thanks, guys! Our new/favorite plumbers from now on! Highly recommend.
Super fast and friendly service! Got a response to the yelp request within 30 minutes, and had then was scheduled to come out and install a PRV the following week within an hour or so.
Edgar was super friendly, did the install quickly and then made sure everything was working as expected. All in all fantastic service!
We weren't a huge fan of their sexist slogan we fix what your husband can't!-- but the service was great, and we'd certainly use them again.
I sent text to Sal regarding my toilet leaking and faucet malfunctions shower not running hot. Sal, is very impulsive, wants you to do the job right away, not knowing the total amount estimated he is working on. Sal, would provide a bid and change to another higher bid. It keeps filing up. I told him that I want another estimate from another company and boy his tune become different.
He couldn't accept no and become impatient.
He didn't show up for the appointment he commit. When I comfront him he retaliated. I wouldn't recommend this business because his rude, bad work ethics and unprofessional. Hope this help for future work reviews

Our hot water in the kitchen faucet had been slowing down more and more over time. We called one plumber who charged about $150 to remove some debris and said we needed to replace some pipes. A couple months later we finally decided to act on that recommendation and get quotes from a couple of different plumbers. Luckily, we called Thumbs Up Rooter and Plumbing. Sal came out the same day, checked the issue, ran water different ways through the faucet to check out what the issue was, at no charge. That alone made the hot water run better! We decided to go ahead and replace the ancient faucet as well. We bought a nice new faucet at Home Depot and Edgar was able to replace it quickly the next day and for a reasonable price. We'll definitely use Thumbs Up again!

Gabe was very professional and nice. He was wearing a mask and shoes were covered as well. Fixed the problem & the cost was exactly as quoted before without any surprises.
Sal (the manager/owner) answered texts very promptly and scheduled me in quickly and according to my availability.

The water pressure at the kitchen faucet decreased dramatically one day out of the blue. I called Thumbs Up and they were available to come out right away. I wasn't ready for them though so we settled on an appt for the next day.
Eddie came the following day. He was on time and very polite. He came in and was able to diagose the issue from me quickly. There was debris stuck in the faucet head. I needed a new faucet because the one I had was pretty cheap, I admit, and instead of being able to replace just the head like you can do with Koehler and Delta products, I would have to replace the whole thing. He was able to go straight away to Home Depot and purchased a nice new Delta faucet for me with his industry discount and install it quickly.
My water pressure is better than it has ever been. And Eddie was nice enough to clean up after himself even though I told him it wasn't necessary. A true professional.

I called Thumbs Up Rooter on a Friday afternoon, and Eddie was on the scene about 90 minutes after the call.
Eddie was great, courteous, informative, and quick on the job. He was able to take care of the issue in less than 15 minutes, and educate me on proper toilet usage. Great service 5/5!!!

These guys are the Bestest. They have fixed some really ugly leaks (horrible old washing machine), replaced faucets, and did a great job both times. The plumbers were on time, really nice people, and cleaned up after themselves very nicely. So glad to have found a really good plumbing company!
Great service and great responsiveness
Our outside basement got backfilled due to a failing sump pump. They were here within the end of the day. They were able to figure out the issue and work out a solution within the hour.

Sal has helped me many times. He is a pro and he is the best. He gets the job done and is very straight forward with his quotes and what he charges for his gas and plumbing services. He upgraded my sewer lateral, which he is the only plumber able to give me an actual price for the scope of work for the permit, materials and job. I've requested estimates from other plumbing and construction companies but Sal gave the best price, and the others estimates for the same job was around $1k to $2k more, and I asked about 6 different contractors.
He also installed my bidet toilet, works like a charm!
Sal fixed my import bathtub leak!
I gave him a mess to work with since my last contractor messed up my plumbing real bad, and left me a giant leak. I have an imported bathtub, and the existing plumbing uses the metric system plumbing, which factored into more work for Sal. He found the right parts and problem solved this fiasco. I'm so thankful for Sal for taking on this project. It took a while to fix the tub leak, but he did it! Before and after pictures posted~

After I sent a message at 9:30 pm, Sal responded less than 15 minutes later. asking that I text him to schedule a time. It wasn't an emergency situation so I waited until the next morning to send him a text. He was professional and prompt and we scheduled a time for the following morning at 10am. On the morning of the plumbing visit, Sal text me to let me know Gabe was on his way. Gabe arrived and he was friendly and professional. He wore a mask and gloves and followed COVID-19 safety protocol. Gabe quickly diagnosed the problem with our sink/garbage disposal and called Sal for quote, which was fair. He did the work quickly but thoroughly. I highly recommend Thumbs Up Rooter and Plumbing! I will be calling them again if we have anymore issues.

Sal helped coordinate my appointment for a leaky sink and his partner Eddie was able to come by the same day and get it sorted. Sal told me to have a new faucet ready just in case a replacement was needed. I appreciated how he valued everyone's time. Eddie is the man!!!!! After literally 2 years of not having a functioning bathroom sink, we were saved by Eddie. We reached out to 4 other plumbers, all said it was going to be a huge job, some wouldn't even attempt it. The other companies all quoted $1-2K for the job.
Eddie came through, laughed at the other quotes. He then asked a series of questions and confirmed that the only problem was the old pipes had corroded itself shut. HE WAS RIGHT!!
$200 later, he simply snaked out the clog and now, we have a bathroom sink!

My water heater sprung a leak (i.e. blew out) on Sunday. Scrambled to find someone to replace it. Requested an estimate on Yelp - Sal at Thumbs Up replied almost immediately with a quote and availability for early Monday morning. As promised, he showed up with his helper, Beto, and a new water heater. Fast, professional service. Took care of my problem and had me up and running well before noon. Can't thank them enough.

I am really disappointed with this company. Sal, was initially quite responsive to the request we had for him to come by.
However, on the day of our appointment, I had to text him to find out where he was since he was 20 minutes late (at 10:20am). He texted and said he meant to say between 10-11am. When 11:30am rolls around, I still haven't heard back as I was running around trying to figure out where he was in between my other meetings. He finally texts and said that he waited for 15 minutes and then had to reschedule. He did not bother to call me, did not go up to our office as he was supposed to, nor take any measures to complete his task at the appointment. This was after he was one and half hours late without notice!
Suffice to say, if you want someone reliable who will be on time, and who is responsible and reliable, I would find another company. I'm so disappointed that this turned out to waste so much of my time waiting for such lack of professionalism.
Sal is the man! Us usual, I emailed quite a few vendors with regards to some plumbing issues I had on our toilet. Sal responded shortly and then gave me his number and offered a call to talk about what my options could be.
I went with my gut feeling and decided to go with Sal. He was on time, professional and very friendly. His pricing was very competitive as well. He came into my unit and was out within 20 minutes. I liked Sal a lot that I may not go with another plumber again. If you're looking for someone reliable and knows what they are doing, then you better call Sal!

Sal responded back quickly with a quote for the repair to our Toto toilet that was running on. The appointment was set up for the very next day. Eddie arrived on time and immediately diagnosed the problem in three areas. He went to the store to get the specific parts and returned promptly to finish the job. They confirmed via Yelp less than 24hrs before they were set to arrive. Initially all they asked for was my address. I carved out an hour of my day to make a time work. They did ask for me phone number after confirming the time, but I didn't get back to them since the confirmed time and date were so close.
They didn't show up. They didn't contact me again via Yelp which I was checking. And they didn't follow up with me UNTIL I left a low review.
They did try to find a time to make work the following week, then decided against working with me due to the communication misunderstanding. Which is fine. Just wanted to put all the info out there.
Needed to have a clog in my shower drained and the water supply valve replaced that connects the main water line to the toilet. Eddie not only did an great job handling both issues, but he also was able to fix a few minor issues that I had around the house at a real fair price! Also his friendly down to earth demeanor, made the service call that much more easy and pleasant! These guys did an Awesome Job! Looks like I found my plumber!
Our water boiler was leaking and was in need of attention ASAP as it was dripping and damaging the ceiling below the attic. They responded within minutes of my yelp inquiry and I got it fixed within 24 hours. Extremely fast, extremely friendly, extremely reasonable pricing. I had lots of questions and they were great to answer all of them. Sal was awesome and great to communicate with and Edgar was the technician who installed the new boiler. Seriously recommend and will use in future if I ever have plumbing issues.

Gabe is the best plumber I've run into (and I'm 77 and my dad was a building contractor). Corrected major issues efficiently in older single family home built in the 1950's., including replacing a pressure reducing valve with difficult access, replacing hot water heater, and replaced shower/bath valves (hard to find) and hardware. Very pleased.

Thanks to Eddie, a mystery was solved. Our sink had been dripping for days, but we couldn't pinpoint the leak. When he came in, Eddie listened very carefully to our description of the problem. Upon inspection, Eddie couldn't find the leak, but he trusted our words and went the extra mile to find the issue. It was a pinhole in the copper pipe! After that, Eddie thoroughly explained the situation to us, gave us our options, and promptly came back with a brand new, nicely-priced faucet from Home Depot. Thank you, Eddie!

Sal responded the same day I posted my request, and texted me a couple of quotes and options later that day, which I thought was pretty good.The very next morning, they said they could have someone at my place around 12 noon to take a look at my situation. Eddie showed up and we discussed what I wanted as far as either doing a repair or buying a new toilet. I opted for a new toilet as mine was more than 30 years old and who knows what else might go bad. Eddie had a couple of suggestions that he thought would work for me. He went out and came back with a reasonably priced new toilet, installed it and was finished all within 2-3 hours. Good communication, and a completely painless process!

By far the best plumbing service I have ever experienced. Super knowledgeable staff that was able to find the best solution to all my problems. My house was built 1948, with previous owners doing several upgrades to the plumbing along the way that turned out to be what you're not supposed to do as well as cause several issues that 2 other plumbing services could not figure out. These guys were able to quickly identify all the issues and provide a fix that I'm sure I won't have to ever worry about again. Plus I got all this amazing service at a cost lower than anyone else who came by to quote. I highly recommend this plumber and will not use anyone else again.
We needed a plumber on short notice to install a new oven (Best Buy wouldn't do it due to the placement of our gas shutoff valve), and we had some leaky outdoor spigots that we'd been putting off replacing, but figured we'd have everything done in one go while we had a plumber out. Sal was quick to respond, was able to come over quickly while also working with our busy schedules, and did the job fast and efficiently. He was a super friendly guy and sweet to our dog, who can't help but throw herself at any stranger who comes into our house, and ended up taking $20 off the cost he originally quoted us for. Had a bad drainage backup and called them 8am. They said they could arrive at 10am and Showed up early! This is incredible responsiveness!
They worked diligently to solve the problem. Highly recommend them for your every day plumbing needs. Eddie is a very courteous and pleasant to work with.
I needed to get my lateral line check due to a new purchase of my home and THUMBS UP did a 2 thumbs up (5 star) job. The team was amazing. They provided a fair quote and communicated effectively. I have saved their number and will use them again if I need their services.

Eddie and Sal were very responsive and professional. Eddie responded quickly after we literally threw in the towel on clearing our clogged kitchen sink ourselves. He was very persistent and patient and finally cleared it after three tries! I spoke with Sal over the phone about a continuous clog I had going on at my rental property. Second time using Thumbs Up and once again Sal and his team came through! Great communications, always on time, fair quote, excellent work. I had them install a tankless water heater and remove the old water heater from my kitchen. I needed someone to come back a few days later and relocate a drain pipe for my new washer/dryer. Sal quickly sent Edgar who is the best! He got the job done quickly and even though it was pretty simple, he was great, as always, about thoroughly checking his work to make sure everything was perfect. He even spent some time helping me try to light the pilot light on my old heater when I mentioned it had gone out. Absolute best customer service and trustworthiness! The only plumber I will ever use.

Sal is amazing!
I contacted him over the weekend with a leaky pipe under the sink. Got an appointment Monday. He kept in touch and arrived on time. He explained that the contractors cut the pipe too short and tightened the nuts too tight which caused the pipes to crack. Quick fix and his price is very competitive! I contacted several plumbers in the area and I went based of his reviews, timely response and reasonable estimate, plus he was the nicest guy I talked too. A week later I had another leaky pipe, he wasn't available when I needed him so he recommended another plumber. Great guy, great service. He'll definitely be the main plumber I call.
2nd time these folks came out to help my parents with their plumbing. this time my parents needed the water inlets cleaned for a new washer. quick communication and excellent timeliness. the washer was delivered y'day and hooked up without a problem. thanks for the quick work y'all!

Sal is fantastic. We had a backed up sewer line and had a different well known plumbing company out to fix it and they didn't and left us in a lurch. I looked up Thumbs Up Rooter and Plumbing on a Friday evening and Sal got back to me right away. He said he would come out on Saturday at 8am. What a relief!! He showed up right on time and worked tirelessly for hours to clear our line. He then came back the next week with a camera to see exactly what the problem was. Sal was so thorough and honest and explained everything that was happening with our line. On top of all of that he was extremely safe and was masked and maintained social distancing when talking with us outside. I highly recommend Sal and Thumbs Up Rooter. I had a neighbor recommend Sal and Thumbs Up in Allendale neighborhood Oakland. We had a new tankless water heater installed in one day. Their quotes were competitive and their service was fast and friendly. Highly recommend!
Resilient, patient, hard-working, persevering, trustworthy, and reliable is how I would describe Eddie (plumber). My in-laws had a clogged drain. I wasn't able to be there initially to help diagnose the problem. Eddie kept me in the loop on the progress each time. It was a stubborn clog. I appreciate his hard work. When he was out of ideas, he understood his limitations and called for help. And most importantly, he fixed the problem. He wouldn't give up. He did a very thorough job including cleaning up. He treated my in-laws as his own family. That's a good man right there.
Sal was very professional and found a creative way to save some money on my job to install a drain and water hookups for a washer/dryer. He even came back a few days later to test the pipes to ensure all was a good fit. Will hire again for sure

Sal is amazing! He and his crew upgraded our water heater to a tankless heater. He gave a super reasonable estimate, was great about communication, and was very professional and timely. The new tankless water heater works perfectly!
Right after the installation, our furnace started having issues and was probably affected by the gas line being upgraded. Sal came out several times and was persistent about fixing the furnace. In the end, everything turned out great!

I had a shower that wasn't draining. I borrowed a snake from the Oakland Tool Library which unfortunately broke off in the pipe. I found these guys on Yelp and called them. Eddie came out in 45 minutes and cleared the drain. He snaked out further to the 4 pipe to make sure everything was running smoothly and gave me advice on what filters to use to keep hair out of the pipe.
I asked him to look at another slow pipe and unfortunately it wasn't as easy a fix since there are tree roots in it. He cleared some of them out but needs to come back later to do the big fix.
These guys were great. Eddie was quick, efficient, explained what he was doing, and didn't charge me extra for asking 100 questions about pipes and plumbing! We agreed he would come at 10:30 and he arrived at 10:33. I wish every repair person was as punctual as this.

All I can say is - Sal rocks! He totally came to the rescue immediated when a tenant reported a back-up in the main sewer line of a building we manage. He worked tirelessly for most of a day, as the clean-out was much more difficult than anticipated. He always kept us updated during the process; and even followed-up with tenant afterwards to make sure she was okay after he successfully cleared the blockage. All I can say, is Sal is our man moving forward for plumbing service. Thanks again, Sal!
Sal an his team were great. We ran into them doing a job a few blocks from our house. Their price was competitive and they were very responsive and easy to work with. We had to get our sewer lateral replaced and from first contact to permit it was only about 10 days to get everything planned, quoted, inspected by EBMUD and finished. The EBMUD guy even gave Sal a glowing review saying he uses Sal's team for his personal plumbing jobs since he lives in the same neighborhood. Would highly recommend them to others and we will be using them for future jobs that come up.
Reached out through Yelp at 9:30pm on a Thursday because of a slow kitchen drain and they got back to me with a quote and scheduled appointment for 10am the next day. Eddie showed up on time, figured out that the problem was further down the line than we hoped, but got the job done. Was personable & courteous to my family (young daughter kept quizzing him about his progress, and he was a good sport about it) and explained what we could do moving forward to avoid having to call a plumber. Highly recommend this company.
Sal was very responsive and he sent Eddie to help my place with a toilet clog issue. Eddie was very thorough and cleared my toilet, unfortunately it's a bigger issue since I now have ROOTS problem. I'll be contacting Sal for a big project pretty soon! I'm glad I found a good plumber and will be using them from now on.
These guys deserve 6 stars!! They have done numerous repairs for me - all jobs were quick, very neat and clean, great communication, prompt. Some were pretty complicated, like redoing a drain and all were done well with no problems after.
They just completely plumbed two bathrooms for me. Again, they were very neat and punctual. They stayed on schedule. The plumbing looks neat and organized. Inspection...passed. The inspector agreed with me that the work was done well.
The reason I went with Sal in the first place is that I felt his communication and responsiveness were excellent. I knew I was embarking on a big job and, especially since this was my first time doing bathrooms, I really wanted someone with GREAT communication skills. RESULT: I feel even better about Sal's communication skills than I did when I decided to hire him.
I'm surprised to see anything fewer than 5 stars for Sal. I suspect those were just oddities. I am so impressed with this guy that I went out of my way to network him with my realtor. The job was great and he also got the little things right - putting my extra key back in the lockbox.

In short, it's what you'd want from a service provider - honest, helpful and informative, and timely.
I messaged Sal on a Sunday night for a clogged drain in the kitchen. It was so simple - they replied with a quote first thing in the morning, including a time they could come. Once they arrived, they did a quick inspection of the property and problem and said they're confident they can fix it.
For transparency, they said there's a chance they may need a more robust snake than what they had on the truck but offered to give their best with the equipment they had - NO extra charge. The feedback felt genuine because he took a great deal of care to explain the problem I had and had no qualms answering a myriad of questions I posed.
In other words, they gave a quote and did their best to live up to it without trying to find a way to charge more for their work. Their rate was the best as well.
Service was done in less than 30-minutes.
Sal is has a bright personality and could even relate to a joke or two about the problem. It was a real pleasure to work with him and he's the example service providers should follow.

Came home from a vacation to a leak in our sewer line. Sal and Gabe came out quickly and discovered the problem - which turned out to be the shoddy work of the last plumber I hired. Gabe then worked all day to get it fixed. And I mean allllllllll day - 10am to 10:30pm. He was courteous and kind and went the extra mile to make sure our problem was worked out. On top of that, the price was reasonable. Total pros and also also real nice guys.
I requested a quote on yelp for some plumbing issues. Sal contacted me within a few hours with some information and a rough estimate. I told him that for the price quoted, I'd have to check with my husband before moving forward. I texted Sal back the next day saying that I was ready to move forward with the project. I never heard back from him. Needless to say, we went with someone else more responsive and communicative.

I really wish I could give Sal and Thumbs Up Plumbing 10 stars. I was dreading our sewer lateral replacement. We wanted replacement of both the upper and lower laterals to ensure 20 year certification. Sal was the only one of 7 estimates that was really reasonable. Some were twice Sal's estimate, and the others would provide an estimate only for the lateral section closest to the house (which yields only a 7 year certification). Not only is he reasonable, but he was so easy to work with. He made it happen, took ownership of the project, and made it stress-free. Work was done in one day, and everything was neat and tidy when the job was done. If you are having a sewer lateral replaced, you are making a mistake if you don't call Sal for an estimate. Quickly set up appointment, Sal called informing me of a minor delay (about one hour) and arrived at this later time. They installed an automatic gas shutoff valve as required by code to sell the house. Efficient installation. Good instructions on how to use.
I have been very strict about wearing a mask and social distancing but when my kitchen sink backed up last weekend, and lacking an outside clean out, there wasn't much choice in the matter. I had to have an outsider enter my kitchen. I knew Thumbs Up would get the job done but what really impressed me was that Eddie came to the door suited up hazmat style. What a relief. I already knew the problem was roots down the line. When they were cleared we talked through our masks about getting a scope to pinpoint the location and work toward a permanent solution. Thumbs Up to Thumbs Up.
I've never left a review before, but had to take the time to summarize the great work Sal and his crew did.
In the lead-up to buying and installing a new water heater at my house, Sal laid out all of the options and was not pushy in one way or another. He was always available via text, responding quickly and helpfully to answer my many questions. On the day of the install, him and his crew stayed extra late to make sure the water heater was working properly, and even took the time to help correct an issue in my house that wasn't their fault.
Then, following the install, Sal came back to check and make sure everything was complete in full and that I was happy. Couldn't say better things about working with Sal!

Sal + Team were the quickest and most competitive contractor we've had the pleasure working with.
Sal personally installed our new Gas Line to our tankless water. The best part came when he reviewed our heater. Admittedly it is 10+ years old and uncommon, but that didn't stop Sal from figuring it out and taking the time to make sure the pilot light stayed lit. He didn't pressure us to buy a new one. He didn't scare us into further repair.
The Sewer Lateral was extremely quick and the best quote we found. Honestly, Sal is the kind of person you want looking out for your home. He does the work as if he is the owner of the house and it shows.

If you have a leaky sink or faucet or need a drain unclogged, you better call Sal!
Sal was able to help us the same day when our old faucet started leaking. Underneath the sink was also leaking. His rates were extremely fair, he had a good attitude, and he was very competent.
- Went to Home Depot and texted me photos of good kitchen faucets. Good taste!
- Removed existing faucet and replaced with new one
- Ran hand snake through the tub --- It was RIDICULOUS what came out. I shed a lot. Blonde hair from previous tenants was about 5 feet down there as well. I've been showering in a puddle of water for weeks.
- He installed a shower purifier I had ordered in the mail a while ago
- He added a new gasket to a pipe underneath the sink to prevent leaks

After reading all the reviews and even a referral from another plumbing business, I called Sal in an emergency for a clogged main line which he promptly took care of it all in a timely manner. Sal came over today and installed a new kitchen faucet, water filter and fixed up my sink. He did a great job at a great price. I asked him about my bathroom sink and he noticed the toilet was running. He fixed it for almost free.
It's always nerve wracking for me to hire someone to do work around the house. I wonder if I'll get good service and or get ripped off by high prices and bad service. I'm very happy I took a chance on Sal. He showed up on time, gave a very fair bid and did an outstanding job. We will have Sal back to take care of some more jobs at our house! I called Sal at 330 PM to clear a clogged lateral sewer line. He showed up around 5. Call it luck, but I've never had a plumber respond that quickly. Though he hasn't cleared it yet, his attitude, perseverance and integrity are second to none. An honest high spirited guy - I like him and would recommend him already.

I used Salvador for installing water softener and a RO system in July 2018. I had purchased the parts myself and he did the install. He is very professional and worked to my satisfaction. There was an issue with water softener install which resulted in water cutoff and damage to dry wall but he responded immediately, took accountability and fixed everything. He paid for the painter and dry wall fix.
I would recommend him and will use for future plumbing needs.

A great attitude can do anything and well-equipped and experienced for any plumbing job. The main drain in our house was clogged. I reached out for an estimate early in the morning. Sal responded promptly with an estimate and followed up with a quick conversation to give me more information. Within an hour Eddie arrived and handled everything professionally and promptly. Sal rode in on his chariot (OK white van) and saved us big time. Our main line backed up with roots at 3:00 p.m. We have Airbnb guests staying with us and I could not reach them to set up other housing arrangements because they were with their young son in the Children's Hospital ICU. Sal got the picture, modified his schedule a bit to accommodate us, and had us up and running again by 5:30. He is so professional and competent. He also gave us good information for managing this problem better in the future. When we get around to replacing our lateral, I know who I'm calling.

All of his estimates were very competitive and we never had any last minute surprise costs. After years of putting off my sewer issues, I finally found a plumber I trusted enough and had extremely fair pricing to get it done. He and his team were in and out in one day. I pretty much can copy and paste all the other 5 star reviews since I echo all the same thoughts. Sal is awesome. I called him in the morning, and he was able to meet me later in the day. He checked everything thoroughly before he left, and as the pro that he is, finished up in less than an hour. I will definitely call him again for any future plumbing problems.
Sal helped us through a really tough clog in the large pipes that backed up all our bathrooms. at each step he gave us reasonable estimates and all the options available if we wanted to spend less. He did a great job too fixing the pipes.

Though Sal did not respond to my initial email inquiry, I was very glad that I called him by phone. Sal was by FAR the most reasonably priced plumber I contacted, and was able to come out and replace my toilet the next day. He even picked up my new toilet from the supply company where I purchased it for no extra charge. Sal was very friendly and right on time. And for anyone worried about the sagging pants stereotype of plumbers -- worry no more; Sal wears a tucked-in button-down shirt. The job was only completed a few minutes ago, so it's difficult for my to state with certainty that the job was done right since I'm not a plumber and for me the only test is time, but everything looks good and works!
Sewer line backed up while we were house-sitting for friends in Berkeley. Nightmare scenario! Made a couple of calls to compare prices and availability. Sal was great on the phone and said he'd send over one of his guys the next day at 10am. Eddie showed up early (bonus points) and let us describe the problem. We opened a window so Eddie could plug in to power their sewer line snake. The line was clogged with roots and dirt and other stuff (don't ask) so it took two passes through the line, but after a couple of hours, everything worked as it should, and the final price was the same as the quote. Eddie was affable, polite, and such a friendly guy. He explained everything he was doing. HIGHLY recommended.
Same day service. Had Sal replace a broken faucet, going to Home Depot to pick up a new one and being in and out (including the Home Depot run) in less than 2 hours on a Friday evening. Total cost was $175 to install and $240 (I think) to install + the home depot run which was discussed ahead of time and agreed on.

Just wanted to give a shout out to Sal at Thumbs Up Rooter & Plumbing--called him this morning at 10:30 to fix our shower drain (which wasn't draining), he was there by 11 and cleared out the clog. Very nice guy too! Keeping his card on file for our future plumbing problems.
I called Sal with a challenging issue to get a quote. He insisted I send him photos, and then gave me advice and guidance to the point I was actually able to do the work myself. When I tried to pay him for his time, he insisted I keep my money. I'll use him in the future, but the very least I can do for his help and integrity is provide this glowing review.

In an hour I had my sewer pipes cleared. Amazing service from a highly competent staff. They even had a Yelp discount coupon I could use. Will definitely use Thumbs up for our next sewer repair. In fact, I need to get all the neighbors to use the same service. Thumbs-up!
Sal was great! He was prompt and professional! And really nice guy. He fixed a major problem with the leaking pipe the same day (during Xmas/ holiday week). He explained the possible issues and solutions. When Sal and his assistant ( sorry forgot his name) worked on fixing the pipe they encountered additional issues and they worked through finding the best solution with the minimal cost for the customer. He was straight-forward with the job quote and after finishing the job that was less costly than initial estimate he gave us a fair price! We recommend him without hesitation!

I called thumbs up rooter because my water heater stopped working. I spoke to the owner Sal and he came out on short notice to take a look. He showed up the next day as promised and had a new unit up and running within a few hrs. Highly recommend this company!

Sal was fantastic! I came home from work at 7:30 pm on a Friday to find that my kitchen was flooded. Sal made it to my house in just 20 minutes! He quickly assessed the situation and diagnosed the issue. He was very resourceful and thorough. I am a new homeowner, and I appreciate him keeping me calm while I was freaking out. Thanks Sal!

THUMBS UP lives up to its name !! Sal is a knowledgeable plumbing expert who had all the right answers when I called him asking numerous questions. When I requested service work to be done ASAP. Sal and his helper were punctual, arrived at the time he said he would. The problem was fixed and everything was back to normal The best part about calling Thumbs up is the rate that was lower than the previous plumbers I've used in the past. I recommend giving THUMBS UP a call when experiencing any plumbing/rooter issues.
I am a local contractor. I was out of town and one of my clients called me about a clogged drain. Unfortunately I was not around so I looked on yelp. I found Sal with thumbs up. He saved the day, and kept a client. Thank you Sal.
I had top join Yelp so I can give this guy a review. I have never had to hire a plumber on my own before, and I was really worried that I was going to get ripped off or screwed around if I chose the wrong people. Luckily he's definitely the right one to call: professional, reliable, friendly, fair, and affordable.
He quickly fixed the plumbing problem that I was having at the salon despite the fact that it was last minute. Without his persistence and working through the night, this probably could have dragged out for weeks or months. He also kept in good communication with me between in his two visits, so I didn't have to guess where they were in the process.
It is such a relief to know that there are true professionals in Thumbs Up Rooter. I can't recommend them highly enough!

Sal and his team replaced my sewer line and removed old galvanized pipe that was leaking badly from under one of my bathrooms. To say they did a magnificent job would be a major understatement. They also charged me less then half of what Rescue Rooter was going to charge, and they completed the work quickly and efficiently. If you have sewer or pipe drainage issues, this is who you need to call. Do not call Rescue Rooter. They will rip you off. Sal and his guys are the best!

Sal is absolutely amazing! He replaced my water heater today for half the price my usual plumber would have charged me. He went to Home Depot, picked it up, installed it in a very difficult spot, drained the old one and hauled it away. Such a nice guy. I can't say enough. Don't hesitate to call him. He's the BEST!!!!! I will have him come back next month to clean the vent pipe on my roof and clean out my sewer line. He will be my go to from now on. Thanks Sal!!! P.S. Sal, the owner, came out himself, fixed the problem quickly, and even worked around my schedule to set up an appointment. Couldn't be happier, will definitely call these guys again for any plumbing needs.
Sal was great. I called on a Sunday around 5:30 p.m. needing someone to come out a.s.a.p., and Sal went out of his way to get here within a couple hours. He was friendly, did the job and his price was substantially more reasonable than the other two places I called to come out last minute. We'll be using him again.
