I am very happy with the work Thomas and his team executed for us. The job was done quickly and professionally. I would use them again.

Thomas came by and fixed our toilet which was filling VERY slowly: 10 minutes to fill.  He was very flexible with our availability.  When he arrived, he had the parts he needed and quickly fixed the problem.
The toilet now fills at a normal rate.
The only problem seems to be that the replacement parts have decreased the amount of water per flush and it is too low for the toilet (which is a low-flow) to get rid of solid waste.  This leads to a double flush and wastes more water than the old flush used.  I beleive that Thomas can fix this problem, as well.

The absolute best. Thomas (Bill's son) was so great. I had a super leaky garden hose attachment that I couldn't fix, and Thomas asked me to send a photo, then offered to walk me through it on the phone so I wouldn't have to pay. I couldn't do it, so he dashed right over with all the right parts and fixed it in like five minutes. This is a family business with 3 generations of awesome plumbers who know their stuff and charge a fair price for excellent work.

I highly recommend this plumbing company they have been around for decades and are very responsive!  Bill Braggs son Thomas came to the job site looked at it (leaking hose garden pipe) and asked us what we wanted for the hardware and fixed it immediately did not wast time running back and forth to the hardware store had all the supplies in his truck.  Thomas went above and beyond also called the next day to check in, very professional in my books.  Thanks again Bill Bragg's plumbing!!!

Dean came out on 8/14 to tackle a plumbing issue in my brother's house.
He was detailed, informative, courteous and successful. His rates were very fair and he went above and beyond with some helpful tips. Some of the success for any plumber is us providing full disclosure for what we need to have repaired and anything we did that might have caused the wear and tear, clogging, etc.  We were very pleased with the work done. Thank you, Dean and Bill Bragg Plumbing.

I scheduled with Bill to come by my place and give me an estimate for a relatively big job.   Because of this I was getting additional estimates.

Bill never showed up, and did not bother calling.  When I called him after the missed appt, he made a comment like I saw a bunch of X (ie used a term describing ethnicity, like Chinese/Mexican) guys standing around (the other plumbing company finishing an estimate) and it looked like you had enough help.  It is one thing if he does not want to take the time for a competitive bid, but really did not have to make a comment about the ethnicity of the other company.  Maybe he is a great guy, I really don't know but adding  that comment was not necessary, especially in a city as diverse as SF.  I think the bottom line is he did not want to compete for the job...

He might do great work, but the fact that he never showed up was a bit disappointing.

Fantastic service.
Had to rerun a gas line in the garage.  They finished the job for less than their estimate.
The grandsons of Bill are efficient, knowledgable and freindly.

Very friendly and gave me tips for how to fix this on my own if it happens again and we can't get an appointment with them right away! On time, great communication, fixed our plumbing issue in a few minutes.
I will always go with Bragg and sons for plumbing.  Such nice people

I rarely write Yelp reviews because usually what I want to say has already been said, but I was so impressed by Dean's work that I decided to write in!

As a woman, I have been burned by disrespectful and unfriendly handymen, so upon encountering a plumbing issue, I was loathe to call someone in. My bathtub was not draining and I tried to DIY by plunging it and snaking it with a hanger. Nothing worked, so I called a professional in.

From the get-go, Dean was friendly and patiently explained what he was doing to this newbie homeowner. He diagnosed the problem as the drain being stuck in the stopped position due to wear and tear, needing a replacement part to be ordered. At that point, I was freaking out as I would be leaving on a business trip that evening. He went above and beyond to shop around the different hardware stores and come up with a replacement on short notice and install it for me.

After all that, I was prepared to pay out the nose, but it was an entirely reasonable amount ($160) for an hour's worth of work and parts.

Would definitely recommend Dean and Bill Bragg to anyone!

Bill and his boys are awesome! Honest, professional, no b/s. They do good work.

Dean just fixed my kitchen sink and dishwasher after a recent move. He isolated the problem, dug out parts from his truck to make everything work and gave me a great lesson in how my disposal works!

Price was totally reasonable and the work was top notch.

I called him early in the week to come out and put a bid together for a shower replacement, plus install a kitchen garbage disposal in my condo. He said he would come on Saturday around 11AM. He called me at 10:50, I think from his cell in front of my building, and said I don't want the job. I said Uh, ok. May I ask why? and he said something about having to turn off the water in my building and that condos were just a problem. Then he mumbled something about lawsuits.

I was clear on the phone that this was a condo, and I gave him my address. If he doesn't like doing condo work, or was already familiar with my building, then why not say something from the start? He wasted my morning, and it was just plain rude to call like that. Now it is a week later, and I still need to find a plumber! Poor form.

Finally found a plumber who is honest and can fix the problem successfully.

They basically had to fix a problem that another plumber said they fixed the month prior.  The prior plumber never pulled anything out of our clogged tub, however, Bill Bragg snaked it a bit differently and was able to pull the giant mess of gunk out.  It's now been about 2 months and we've had no issues.

We will certainly call them the next time we need a plumber.

Never got past the phone call. Not sure who answered phone but it was a guy and he was very condescending on phone.  Here is exact transcript of my call:

Me: Hi, I wanted to get a quote to come take a look at a bathroom faucet with a small drip.

Him: Well it's $105 an hour.

Me: So it's $105 just to come take a look at it?

Him: Well we wouldn't just come look at it, we'd fix it.

Me: So it's $105 total to fix a leaky faucet? Don't you wanna look at it first to see how hard it is to fix?

Him: Well we're not gonna come take a look just for a leaky faucet.

Me: (stunned silence and confusion at guy's attitude)

Him: OK, well you just call us when you're ready. (hangs up without saying bye)

Ha, yeah buddy, don't hold your breath.

Bill is the man.  I phoned him up late Saturday afternoon to deal with my chronicly plugged bathtub drain.  He picked up right away while at another job in the Marina (I live in Noe) and was over within the hour.  On a Saturday!  Even when his snake couldn't penetrate my Byzantine (both in design and date of manufacture) pipes he wasn't stymied.  He went right out and drilled into the outside near the foundation.  Had it purring in minutes and even put up with my cranky old dog barking at him.  Reasonable prices, no BS, I've got nothing but love for this skilled Geezer (both Brit and American def's).

Sidenote:  He told me Yelp wants some crazy amount of cash to keep his business up on their site?  Come on Yelp.  Poor guy didn't even put himself here.  That was the doing of us, his loyal fans.

I'm having a washer and dryer delivered/installed today.  Or rather, had it delivered but couldn't have it installed because I need the floor pan, which hooks up to the drain, replaced.  Sears suggested I call a plumber, so I called Bill Bragg -- the reviews are so great!

Whoever picked up the phone just said, Hello?

Uh, hi, I said, I think I need a plumber.

Okay, he said.  Long pause.  Am I missing the memo about secret plumber telephone code?

So I explained the situation and without taking the time to ask me what my timeframe was or letting me know when he was available he simply said, Nope, we don't have time for that.  Thanks, dear, and hung up.

Dear?  Well, Muffin, next time you don't have time, please don't waste mine answering my call.  It just felt all around not-professional is all I'm sayin'.  It sounds like his work is great, I just won't even bother trying him in the future.

[Edit: I just called 24/7 Rooter and the guy who answered the phone was friendly, told me someone could be here in half an hour to give me a free estimate, and told me that yes, they do accept credit cards.  Whoo!]

We had water all around our toilet and thought for sure it was leaking. Bill came right on time and could have easily charged us $100.

Instead, he explained that the water was actually just coming from the shower and that that happens all the time with tight bathrooms. He then tightened the toilet anyway and insisted that we did not need to pay him anything.

I will definitely call him first from now on.

Thomas is the best plumber I've ever met. He tried troubleshooting an issue with me from the phone for free on my first call. Then he came over an hour later and checked on me, fixing some stuff 'guerilla-plumber' style and advising me how I could fix the issue myself for free. No charge for this friendly counsel. Turns out, I Iack the cool hand of a seasoned repairman, and couldn't repair it myself. So he'll now be appropriately compensated as an expert should be -

Still, I learned how to dislodge a stopped-up drain, after RainbowDraino and picking at it with a coat hanger failed (HINT: Use the coat hanger, but add a plunger and a bottle of soap).
LESSON: Trust you and your landlord's home investment to a professional - you could cost more with the havoc you wreak).

Extra credit for Bill Bragg (Thomas): Responding to texts with pictures of a broken toilet seat at 11:30pm (toilet porn) and bringing a new seat tomorrow. Wow! At best, I hoped he saw it in the morning and had some spare parts...Cheers!

I had a bottle stuck in my toilet and it wouldn't flush.

So I called the other top-rated places here, and they told me that:

a) they don't quote prices over the phone
b) they don't bill by the hour, but by the job (but they won't say what each procedure costs)
c) if you can't get an object out with a snake you have to buy a new toilet

So I called Bill Bragg because I remembered that he's near my house, and he came right over.

He couldn't get the bottle out with the snake, so he removed the toilet, turned it upside-down, jiggled it. Nothing.

Did it again... nothing

Did it another time...

Voila! The bottle popped out.

Cost? $125. And no new toilet needed (the few who had told me what they charge to remove a toilet had quoted $225 or more).

Bill Bragg is an Honest Plumber!

(By the way, he's at 18th and Guerrero, not in the Sunset)

Thank you so much

Thank goodness for honest, competent plumbers.  I had a backed up toilet and tried everything I could to clear it, even going as far as using lye (the 2 times that I've used this, it has never worked.  Truth in advertising should apply here).  Bill Bragg's son came by within the hour, snaked it, and it was cleared before I could take my 2nd breath of air.  $105.

I still think it was a deal compared to what others have charged me in the past.  This is the third time this same issue has come up and Bill's son said that's too much.  He went on to say that the hole of the toilet come in different sizes, apparently, before the toilet connects to the wasteline pipe.  He suggested I get another toilet (Toto) and that Excel on So Van Ness + 18th St has a showroom.  (Guess what I'll be doing this weekend.)  Other plumbers have not been able to clearly explain the exact problem, so that's why it's my third time to deal with this same issue.

This is a small, family owned business comprising of a father, son, nephew team.  I definitely support that.

Without a doubt, 5 stars!  And a satisfied customer.  Recommend.

I called for a quote for a kitchen remodel and I mentioned that I had two quotes but wanted to get a couple more since the quotes were different.  He cut me off and told me to go with one of the quotes.  Pretty lam business motto.  I would've preferred that he informed me that they were not taking new clients but to turn me away because I'm trying to research is wrong.

Like others, I was lured in by the promise of an honest, competent plumber. The reality? A guy well past his prime who turned a small leak into a minor flood and then said Sorry, can't fix it -- you should just get a new toilet . . . I can replace your toilet for $500.  Huh? I don't want (or need) another toilet. Fast forward to the next day, when Plumber No. #2 confirmed that I did indeed need another toilet -- BECAUSE BILLY BOY HAD CRACKED THE TANK!!!!!

Stay away -- learn from my bitter experience.

Fantastic service! I had one running toilet and another clogged one. I called around 9 this morning, and they said they'd be here this afternoon around 2 pm but would call when close by. I was on a conference call and couldn't switch over when Thomas called, but when I called back 15 minutes later, he promptly turned around and came back. He fixed the clogged toilet in no time. Despite changing the flapper in the running one, it was still running, so he took the time to order the original part for me so we could try it instead of ordering a new toilet. Not only was he really competent, he gave me some great tips and was super nice!

After calling 5 other plumbers who have no availability the last one said call Bill Bragg.  I called and he pulled over while driving to take down the details.  Someone came by a couple of hours later to deal with my leaky kitchen pipe which was actually a super simple matter of screwing the faucet hose tighter.  Literally.  I felt so dumb that it was such as simple solution.  These guys didn't talk down to me or get mad about it and didn't charge despite coming out for the call.  A+++ friendly/honest service.  Next time I have a REAL plumbing issue I won't be calling around....I'll be calling these guys first!

I had a leak in my kitchen sink, called Bill Bragg in the morning and he arrived by early afternoon. My leak was fairly urgent, but not an emergency, so the time frame was fine.

Bill sent his son in his place. All I can say is that the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. He was punctual, courteous, professional and definitely knew his way around all things plumbing.

He worked on my sink for a little over an hour, gave me a couple of recommendations for heating companies (as I was in the market for central heat), took a look at a couple of minor plumbing issues I had (fixed what he could, made suggestions for those I could easily deal with myself) and only charged me the 1 hour flat rate (I believe it was $125). And he was completely honest.

It's true what the other Yelper said: Yelp is asking him to pay a pretty high premium to keep his business on the site. When I told him I found him on Yelp he didn't even know what Yelp was! Really Yelp? He didn't even put himself on this site, his fans did!

I'd called Bill to get a basic repair job done on a leaky toilet tank that was running and wasting water.  I could have easily done this myself, but just didn't have the time.  After calling to make an appointment, Bill said he would call me back either later that afternoon, or the next morning about an hour before he'd come by, which was fine with me.  I gave him a description of the problem, my phone and address information, and we planned for him to come by and fix.  By late the next afternoon he hadn't called.  So I called him back, and he then told me he wasn't going to be able to come by that day either.  So I said I'd find someone else.  So now I'm back to calling other plumbers on Yelp and hoping for better luck next time.

Few things could bring me out of my Yelp hiatus, but I just had to write a review on Bill Bragg Plumbing. It's not the first time we've used Bill Bragg Plumbing, and it definitely won't be the last. It's New Year's Eve and not only was I dealing with a stopped up toilet but a backed up shower too. At close to 5pm (when most businesses would've very justifiably not answered the phone), Thomas answered my desperate call and came to the rescue with his dad, Bill. They arrived within an hour from my call. Prompt, honest, professional, friendly and very reasonably priced, I'm a lifetime loyal customer now on. If you have any plumbing needs, you must call Bill Bragg Plumbing FIRST! If I could've, I've would've left more than 5 stars.

I have used Bill 3 times now, and every time he is out immediately, and he fixes the problem immediately, and is very reasonably priced. Bill is professional, thorough and reliable. Highly recommended.

I called Bill at 8:30am the day after Thanksgiving after a cooking mishap left my kitchen sink completely clogged with standing water (apparently potato skins shouldn't go down the sink).  He quoted me a reasonable hourly rate ($105) over the phone and was at my place in an hour.  The job was finished in just under an hour and as advertised, I paid $105.

And he didn't even make fun of my lack of domestic skills on a holiday weekend...

Thank you, thank you. Toilet backed up with bad sewer waste coming up in the shower and in the garage PLUS the rainwater (and it's been pouring) which usually drains down down past where the clog was which caused the whole basement to flood.  All my plunging and 3 ft snake didn't do a darn thing.  Called at 1:30pm, showed up at 2:15pm, done by 3:15pm. Cost was around $200.  Thank you, thank you!

Very nice guy and much better priced than the others I checked out.  Was prompt, friendly and professional.  One of the pipes to my kitchen sink was leaking -- he diagnosed the problem (washers were worn out and one of the pipes had slipped down causing water to leak out between the 2 pieces of pipe), replaced what was needed and was on his way in no time.  Paid a $100 and all was good (was $5 off his minimum service call price of $105 for finding him on Yelp!).

This is a family business with a great work ethic and reasonable prices.

Mr. Bragg (Sr.) came to my apartment on a Saturday morning of New Year's weekend to fix a broken pipe under the sink. Thinking it was a quick and simple fix, Mr. Bragg and I found out how jerry rigged the landlord had done everything. In an instant, the job became huge and filthy!

Not only did the entire pipe and all the connection nuts fall apart, the pipe leading into the wall wasn't to code and barely holding together. I've never seen a pipe disintegrate before, but it did. Crud came pouring out and would have gone all over the place except Mr. Bragg was prepared to catch it before it flooded the kitchen as it had done the night before.

After over 4 hours of messy work and installing completely new pipes, Mr. Bragg cleaned up the mess!! And he did it all for $400!! That's the price two other plumbing companies told me over the phone when I thought it was an hour long job.

Thorough, honest and available. Keep family business alive in SF by supporting them. If he had billed twice as much it would have been worth it to have the high quality of his work.

I found this company via Yelp, and decided the reviews were so good, I'd give them a try. Well, it's been a big disappointment. They answered the phone friendly enough, but then after we made the appointment for the visit, they never showed up. I had to call them back and say hey, what happened to you? He just said oh sorry, we got busy. Meanwhile I had waited all morning and missed work as a result. Then weeks layer they did come by, and said they'd get back to me with a bid and scheduled start date, but they never did.

Finally, I called again and they said oh sorry, they'd have the bid and start date asap. Well, that was a month ago and now I've moved on and had the job done by someone else. Our job was simple enough, but def worth their time - possibly $1500 worth of time. Are they that busy in this economy to be that disorganized and that unresponsible?

Brutal ...

Bill is the sweetest old plumber i've ever met, not that i've met that many of course. But he was a real genuinely honest guy who got the job done. for a reasonable price.
The company itself is not a one man band,  i have met at least 3 members; him, his son and his colleague.
My only reservation is that i did need to chase him to return with a spare part, but we got there in the end. But i would far prefer doing that and give Bill my money, than someone else who was perhaps more on the ball, but less honest and less experienced.

We had a new fridge coming, and we had to sever the water line to the ice maker. Sounds easy enough, right? So I you tubed how and thought, I could do this! Well- I COULD NOT. We had to call a plumber and fast, water was leaking everywhere! I called Mr. Bragg and in a friendly tone told me he could swing by within an hour.

He arrived and quickly deducted in a minute that there must be a valve downstairs to turn off. We looked and behold! There was a valve! He told us to turn it off, which we did. Problem solved.

We asked what his fee was, and without hesitation mentioned $20. I asked if I could write a check. He paused, smiled and said, Merry Christmas! and walked out. Just like that.

Thank you Mr. Bragg. You could have easily charged us for this. Your 50 years of service to San Francisco may have given you experience, but your humanity and kindness towards us will never be forgotten. TEN STARS!!!

Charged $325 for a minor rebuild for a wall mounted toilet.  When I asked Todd if he could break down the charges into parts and labor, he said he couldn't.  I then asked him how long would it take him to do the minor rebuild.  He said Oh, about 15 - 20 minutes.   I found out later that parts cost about $20 at the hardware store.  So, that comes out to an hourly rate of $900/hr.  Additionally, he tried to tell me that toilets have to be rebuilt every 5 years.  The two toilets in our unit are 20 yrs old and this is the first time we've had to have this work done.  Does this mean their work quality is only good for 5 yrs?

Decided to to go with Bill Bragg based on all the positive reviews. But I can't actually review his work because he wouldn't take the job.  Parking is difficult downtown, especially on our street and that was his reason for saying, Uuhh, why don't you go with someone else.  Ok, I will.

I called and made an appointment with Bill to snake a drain. He was very accomodating regarding date and time.  I had to change my appointment twice due to work, and he said That's OK. Let me know what's good  He sent his son who was a treat. Job done fast and not expensive. Would say that I've found a new plumber.

Just called Bill and he came over in less than one hour!  Fixed my issues in less that 30 min, charged me a reasonable fee and left.    That says it all right!  Nice guy.  Definitely would call him again if needed.

Our water heater's pilot light just would not stay lit--I called Bill that morning, and later that afternoon he had replaced some faulty thermal coupling. He's responsive, fast, and knowledgeable. Thanks Bill!

We were delighted with Dean from Bill Bragg Plumbing. We called late on Thursday afternoon with a clog that could not be solved with Drano.  He called us back and scheduled to come the next morning at 8:00.  He was here right on time.  He quickly cleaned out the clogged pipe and educated us on not using Drano because it weakens the pipes. We then asked him to look at a slow draining bathroom sink.  He said he needed to check the pipes first to make sure they weren't weakened before he put a snake down.  Sure enough, you could press in on part of the pipe so he ended up having to replace all the pipes under the sink.  It now drains better than it has in years.  He had all the parts he needed with him, which was great.  His charges were very reasonable.  We will call him again the next time we have a plumbing problem.

Bill was great. We bought a new house and had a leak under the sink. We needed someone to come out and check what was wrong. He came out and told us it was a issue with the way the disposal was installed and that we would need a new one. He came out, gave us advice and didn't charge us a cent. Who does that nowadays! It was quite refreshing. And he said he would research for us how much a new disposal would cost if we wanted to make the repair. I will update the review once we get the work done with him.

Our toilet took 10 mins to refill which caused some anxiety between my roommate and me.  I did my research on YELP and called Bill Bragg Plumbing.  Thomas (Bill's son) came by this morning, ON TIME, and fixed it perfectly.  Moreover, he took the time to show me how to remove the buildup in my sink faucet to regain the nice water pressure.  Super professional and nice.  Highly recommended!!!!

Called to get an estimate and didn't get one. Was told the hourly rate and basically told me to accept whatever number of hours it takes to get the problem fixed.  Seems way sketchy to me. Not sure why other yelpers rated Bill so highly. I found him very unhelpful on the phone.

We had a bathroom sink that kept getting clogged and no amount of Liquid Plum'r would do the trick.  Called these guys, they were there within 2 hours and got the thing cleared out.  When we realized that I had accidentally taken the checkbook to work, they said no big deal, and let us mail in the check. Polite, prompt, family-owned, and acceptable price for the service ($105).  Will use them again.

Following in Matt W.'s footstep's, I too joined Yelp just give Bill 5 stars.  The guy has been a doing this for 50 years & it shows.  He was more concerned w/ doing it right the first time so he wouldn't have to come back in a year or so rathen than doing a patch job.  Set things up so I can snake my sink myself w/o having to take everything apart (using a capped Y joint) in my poorly plumbed building.  Can't imagine calling anyone else but him in the future.

Great service!!! He came over to check out a leak from my bathroom to my downstairs neighbor, but quickly deduced it was from shower splash and a crack in the grout. I was happy to write him a check for his time, but he said, no charge - call me when you have a real problem. Hopefully I won't have a real problem, but if I do I have the number.

They showed up promptly the following day, and fixed one of my two problems. Then they tried to diagnose my leaky dishwasher, but, since it wasn't my pipes, they were honest about not being dishwasher experts, referred me to someone else, and only charged me half the normal visiting price.

Bragg plumbing is the most incompetent and unprofessional company I have ever worked with.  They didn't come when they said they would come and didn't call when they said they would call.  The plumber who finally did show up came in no uniform and no van, but rather his own personal car.  He gave us a quote without calling the water heater's technical support to properly diagnose the problem.  He gave us a ridiculous quote in the thousands.  When we got a second opinion, the final cost was NOWHERE near that.  Please call them at your OWN RISK!!!

This is the second time I have called Bill.  Both times his son Thomas was the one to come to the house.  Great attitude and fixed the problem in no time for a really fair price!!  Today he brought Dean with him, same great attitude.  I feel that I have found a plumber I can trust.

Called Bill at 8:15 a.m. about fixing a leaky toilet at my rental property.  Gave him my tenant's phone.  Tenant emailed 2 hours later to say that the plumber had stopped by first thing (I think he's nearby ,based on the map - thanks Yelp!) and fixed the toilet in 10 minutes - replaced supply line & connector in tank. Since it was a quick and easy fix he didn't charge an arm and a leg, which I really appreciated. So many plumbers and electricians charge a minimum first hour. Hopefully I won't have any more plumbing problems, but when I do I'll give Bill Bragg a call.

Toilet was leaking on floor. They promptly came the next morning and replaced the toilet. I did not like the quality of the new one and even though it took persistence on my part, they replaced it with a higher quality one at no extra cost. I would say they are committed to customer satisfaction!

Since I chose Bragg based on Yelp, I feel obligated to report.  When I called, his son was in the area and swung by in 10 minutes, looked at the problem, went to the plumbing supply place and returned within 10 minutes.  Fixed the problem  ( a missing faucet handle), explained to me how to repair it myself in the future and went on his way.   $123.    What makes it a five star is that my son in law had called another plumber (starts with B and sounds like hell), who came, said the whole sink needed to be replaced, then took the loose faucet handle, never returned, and refused to reply to numerous phone messages.

I have used Bill a couple of times without problems, fast and knows his trade, but I have left 3 messages on both his phones, so far (3days) no answer.  Sorry too say i have to move on as this time, thank goodness its not an emergency.....need someone dependable.
