MEL Electric Inc was started by our Vice President as a natural progression in the industry and the desire to provide the best customer service and quality that should be expected from an Electrical contractor. Our Vice President started in the industry in 2001 and has received formal classroom training in both the residential and commercial as well as hands on experience along the way.

Matt has been formally trained in all aspects of the Electrical industry and graduated from a 5 year vocational school at the IBEW JATC in Napa as well as a 2 year program in addition. Matt has been in the electrical field since 2001 being involved in just about every aspect of the electrical world from industrial, residential to commercial remodels and new construction, he is also great at finding and fixing existing electrical problems. Matt is respectful and has a great attitude that makes him very easy to work with and figure out what will work best for you as the client, he tries to make every client feel like they are number 1 and the only one that matters. Do not hesitate to choose MEL Electric! Eric was prompt, professional and congenial. We needed our front porch light inspected (the light bulbs were very corroded), a new pantry fixture installed and a video doorbell installed. Tyler changed out our hardwired smoke detectors to the smoke detectors & carbon monoxide combo. Our old smoke detectors would chirp constantly if we used our heater/AC, etc. Even after changing out the backup batteries to try to stop the chirping, those old hardwired smoke detectors would retaliate chirping again in the middle of the night. Now with the new devices, no chirping when we use our heater. Tyler solved that and we thank you!

I just hired MEL electric to replace my old electrical panel and I couldn't be happier with the service provided. The electricians were prompt, professional, and very knowledgeable. They arrived on time and quickly assessed the situation, explaining the entire process to me in detail, and worked closely with the Benicia permitting department to do it within the permitting constraints. Throughout the installation, the electricians took great care to ensure that everything was done correctly and safely. As an estate manager here in Napa Valley, I depend on MEL to provide outstanding service for all of our electrical needs. They recently installed a Tesla charger and did some troubleshooting on a fountain pump, both with very satisfactory results!

Probably a small job for them, but I needed them to replace the can lights and add a new kitchen island light fixture. Steve did an excellent job and while here he offered suggestions on our under cabinet lights. Nice!
MEL Electric just installed an electric car charger on my garage. I couldn't be happier with my entire experience with the company.

Our antique front porch light was not working and the screws to open it had seized up. MEL Electric came and took great care to get the screws working again, fix it so that it would not happen again and carefully cleaned it. I got a last minute appointment and the electrician was very nice and helpful. He found the issue after doing a lot of troubleshooting. Turned out it wasn't a big issue but he was thorough. Also touched up issues from the original electrician. Highly recommend and they were very communicative.

It's tough to find a company that has Great people and fair pricing! Look no further than Mel electric!
20 years of living on the Northern California Coastal Range means electrical failures all year long. I finally had it and responded to an ad about generators. The next day I had an email from MEL Electric, that afternoon I got a call and the next week MEL came out for a site inspection. The next day I had a detailed quote, and that afternoon I had a contract. So far they have taken care of every detail all the way up the permit process which in Sonoma County is no easy thing.
They keep me in the loop and will send site preparation details when they meet with inspectors.
I am impressed and appreciative for their knowledge and help so far...oh yeah, the ladies I have dealt with on the phone are helpful and funny!

MEL Electric has been wonderful to work with on multiple projects fixing or improving our home. They have done an excellent job every time diagnosing and fixing electrical issues that were blowing our breakers, as well as installing new lighting, ceiling fans, and outlets while problem solving around a tricky attic configuration - even suggesting appropriate recessed light trims and bulbs from the thousands available.
Based on our great experiences with them we utilized their services to install a whole house back-up generator which has worked flawlessly through multiple power outages. They even have a convenient service plan to keep it maintained.
Through all of it they have been professional, on time, friendly, and there have been no unhappy surprises! I highly recommend them.
I have used MEL electric for many projects in many different homes. They are very professional when doing and completing a job. They send someone out to look at the project and produce an estimate. This process is great as they let you know what needs to be done and how it will get done. Then they send you an estimate via email, where you approve and schedule the installation. I've had recessed lights placed throughout the house. They were clean, courteous, and everything has worked out great for many years.

Great guys and quality work. Their electricians are very courteous of the job-site and clean up after each day. We had MEL out to help with putting in an outdoor outlet for a hottub. They did a great job running the conduit from the other side of the house. They worked quickly and were very professional.
I had my front and backyard landscape lighting project done by Mel Electric. I am very pleased and satisfied with the way that Matt and his team handled this project. They are very professional and transparent. With today's supply chain delay problem, they had kept the communication channel open and kept me updated fairly well. Although it took them two trips to install all lights and wiring, the project was finished within a reasonable timeframe. Importantly, the quality of the work and the products are superb.

My electrical problem wasn't solved after 2 hrs electrician said he honestly didn't understand the problem. When invoice arrived I emailed company said I wasn't satisfied would of course pay invoice, did they give senior discount. Received call told no but would talk to owner received long email from owner stating I did not give tech time to find problem. I responded then rec'd two more long emails one telling me I had better not slander his company. I'm a 73 year old woman all he had to say was sorry good luck with next electrician. By the 3rd email I was feeling very uncomfortable and said do not email me again.

Very pleased that I hired MEL electric for some work needing done in my old home. Everyone I interacted with was very professional and nice. Upgraded a fuse panel and had some random electrical work tacked on. Definitely recommend them and I'll be calling on them again for the next electrical upgrades and fixes.
I really like working with this outfit. I've hired them for a few projects, including a whole-house lighting retrofit, replacing all switches/outlets, installing timer circuits for some external lighting, and a bunch of other residential remodeling-related projects.
Their staff show up on time, are polite, friendly, and very professional. While in my home, they take care to protect flooring, and don't cause any unnecessary damage to anything else. They stick to the quoted bid and I don't think I've had one over-charge on anything despite a random callback for a minor installation issue.
I would highly recommend MEL Electric for any electrical project, I know we'll be hiring them for more upcoming work.

I had a long list of to-do's in my new house and was very happy to have selected MEL Electric. The initial on-site visit to scope out work with Matt was excellent and he offered extremely helpful input on various scenarios.
The team that came out to do the work were also excellent, asking questions as they went along to ensure there were no bad surprises.

MEL Electric was prompt to help us with our generator needs. We purchased and had installed a generator from a company who gave us no details on how to use or maintain the generator. I contacted MEL Electric and they came out and explained the generators operation as well as gave it its first maintenance. Very kind people. I needed some outdoor lighting diagnosed and fixed. Matt was very efficient with with get the job done.
MEL Electric is my go to for all of my electric needs. When I first moved to Napa I surveyed several different electricians and found that MEL offered the best savings and after having used them multiple times, the best service that I could ask for. My house is a bit old and so I'm sure there will be more work that I'll be calling MEL for assistance with. I highly recommend the MEL team if you're in need of good electrical work.
After purchasing a gas generator I realized the inconveniences of owning and operating it: maintaining gas fuel in it by adding fuel stabilizer, when power is out you have to go outside and start up the unit, if you are low on gas you have to go out to get a container full, if the power outage lasts days then you have to keep refilling it and if I'm not home as I was frequently in the city days at a time, all my food would spoil.
The Generac addressed al those issues. I don't need to be home since it turned on automatically. It's far more expensive but worth the cost for the peace of mind. Mel Electric made it all easy to install. It took three days for the installation process but the crew was very efficient and friendly. Only drawback is that at the time I had to wait months for the start date so if you're thinking of a premium generator and installer : Mel Electric is the company to contact.
First I want to thank MEL elec for coming to our aid in a time of need! We had a kitchen remodel scheduled with our regular electrician coming in ahead to make some needed changes for cabinet placement, etc. A few days before he was scheduled to come, we got a call that the electrician has been called out of town due to a death in his family. I checked Yelp for a new electrician, called MEL Elec. and they had Eric scheduled to come out within the timeframe needed. As far as Eric is concerned, he could not be nicer. He is extremely knowledgeable and was met with several challenges of an old house which he resolved. He explained some of the code requirements and did a great job for us. We would highly recommend MEL Electric and especially, Eric.

While I didn't get a chance to work with MEL Electric on my project (my boss decided to use his normal electrician), they were very helpful, qualified, smart and informative during the bidding/pricing aspect on the job. I am a professional in the industry, and definitely give them two thumbs up for anyone looking for an electrician.
Where do I start. I contacted MEL regarding a Generac generator after getting the runaround from the manufacturer.
I received an appointment. Matt showed up on time and we discussed my requirements. He gave me alternatives and a ball park estimate. Within days I received a firm contract via email. The scope of work included everything including acquisition and delivery of the generator, installation by MEL and a licensed plumber. They researched and pulled permits.
After accepting the contract and a payment for the generator I was given a ballpark installation date dependent on delivery of the generator. Once the generator was secured I was given a firm installation date. Ebony frequently called to update me on status and to answer any questions.
Matt and the crew showed up as promised and the work was complete within the day. Installation was neat and professional. The next day a member of Mell's crew showed up to meet the county inspector. He then covered the generator and transfer switch operation in perfect detail. Afterwards there was a full test and the generator was set up for it's biweekly test.
One big lesson from my experience: Don't attempt to install a generator without a experienced partner. MEL Electric is a personal and professional organization, period.

If I could give this company 10 stars I would. MEL Electric is the third electrician dealing with a home charger install for my new Tesla. They are the third company to open the electrical panel. By the time they came I felt as if I was going to have to put in a new electrical panel for more space or have a sub panel installed. The first electrician said he would have to order the circuits needed for 60 amps, (He only installed the dedicated wire needed, the charger and 50 amp circuit, not the 60 needed) that was months ago. Eric from MEL Electric came yesterday, after requesting the day before that I send a picture of the electrical panel so he would know what he was dealing with. Within a short time I went out and he showed me where he installed the 60 amp circuit! I could not believe it! Apparently the first two had not really LOOKED at the ENTIRE panel, only the area where the 50 amp was installed. Not only was he able to move some circuits around and install what I needed but he found an entire section that had no wires hooked up which means I have more space available if ever needed! Eric was polite, informative, showed up with a mask and was very observant! He really looked and used his knowledge! My comment was ,OMG, I love you!!! Bet no customer has told him that before! Thank you Eric and MEL Electric!

I cannot recommend these guys too highly. We have had several electrical issues over the last couple of years, including installing a 220v source for our electric car, installing a bathroom heat lamp, addressing outages, and repairing circuits. My husband contacted Generac to inquire about putting in a whole house backup generator. They set us up with someone to come out for an estimate. They never showed. My husband contacted another company that installs the Generac and they did not want to even deal with us -basically stating that it was too much money for us (how would they know; they don't know us). Another phone was call made to a dealer who stated that they do not come to Vallejo.
My husband contacted Generac again requesting an appointment. Luckily they set us up with MEL Electric. The woman who called us from MEL was very friendly and helpful. She set us up for an appointment. Brandon showed up for the appointment. What a knowledgeable man. He let us know that we could not put it where we thought it should go. He scoped out our yard and came up with a place that would work much better. We inquired about financing and he called us back within a few hours. I cannot stress how knowledgeable and nice this man was.

Matt came out and we discussed the need to run service across the backyard, prior to installing deck. Received bid and scheduled work. Crew showed up with a different job in mind, and claimed that work could not been done as I desired and as Matt had assured me it could. They left and did not follow up. Get everything Matt says in writing; they lie about it afterward.

This contractor deserves a solid 10 for an excellent experience overall.
Here's why:
1] There is a very nice woman who answers the phone and schedules estimates/service, and reminds you 1 day prior of your appointment. Her demeanor is super- friendly/positive and VERY professional-- a pleasure to interact with.
2] Next, I'd like to comment on my request for an estimate for electrical service work. Matt (turns out he's the owner) provided an on-site estimate. He arrived promptly, was friendly, extremely knowledgeable and willing to share that knowledge in a respectful manner.
He is also the last of a dying breed: an HONEST contractor! He told me I didn't need the service I was inquiring about. In explaining why, he respectfully provided me with an impromptu Electrical 101 class. As a result, I totally understood the reasons why my home would remain safe even without this service. Rather than just selling me what I thought I wanted, he ran through the logic and reason of my request and we ultimately decided that it wasn't needed. Who does that nowadays? Uh, apparently no one-- but MEL. (Full disclosure: MEL was the 3rd of 3 contractors I called and who provided on-site estimates. MEL is the ONLY contractor who said, You really don't need this-- here's why...)
As a result of his honesty, I will only call MEL Electric for my next service request. They have proven themselves to be a professional, trustworthy business, and that's saying a LOT these days.
Fast, friendly and exceptional electrical work. I needed a car charger installed and MEL was rated highly on YELP. I received 3 bids and they were the least expensive. They went the extra mile and hid all wiring and the system works great. I will definitely call MEL again.

I had MEL replace a problematic and high-risk Zinsco service (breaker) panel at my house in Benicia. They did a GREAT JOB: very competitive (lowest bid), prompt, courteous, thorough clean-up, and the installation crew took the time to answer my many questions as the work progressed. Simply said: I couldn't be happier with the job! MEL is now my go-to electrical contractor!
I purchased a home built in 1955 and still had the original electric panel and 4 breakers. The first time I used the washing machine the house went dark. I knew the panel and breakers needed to be addressed as soon as possible.
During the quote visit he explained everything in detail. After I accepted the quote, Ebony was great with follow-up and keeping me updated on next steps. Matt and his team did an amazing job. Within 4 hours work was completed, inspected and power back on.
I am looking forward to working with Matt & team on future projects in my home. It is nice to know I have an electrician I can count on.
I'm so thankful for MEL Electric. I own a small art school, and had decided to bring in an electric ceramic kiln which needed a special power outlet, and to ensure the building had enough power to function properly. MEL Electric was very professional, courteous, and did a great job (also helped to relieve some of my anxiety!).

Ebony and Mac were very responsive to our request for service and were able to schedule my the work quickly.
Brandon was here on time with a text ahead of his arrival to confirm he was coming. He understood the problems and went right to work resolving them and carefully examined one issue and suggested what might need to be done as a follow up. He is the most polite person and took no more time than necessary to do the work while being very friendly.
This was our first opportunity to work with MEL and we will be happy to work with them again. They have our highest recommendation
Trying to find electricians is tough. After looking at yelp, I emailed and Matt respond very quickly and was able to provide me a with an estimate. His team did an amazing job, super clean job site and cleaned up too. His crew is super nice and did exactly what was expected. Went the extra mile to not have to cut into drywall for access and was able to fish a wire in a really tricky spot. Appreciate that for sure.

Extremely knowledgeable and punctual. First appointment to analyze the work was 10 minutes. Second appointment to do the work was 30 minutes.
Even though the job was simple, it was very well done. If you can't do the easy things right, don't bother with anything harder.
The MEL company has done two jobs for us. First they replaced an electrical box. It was a huge job involving running a new service. All went well. They were on time and left the job site clean. The employees were courteous and clean.
The second job also involved a new line for a music studio at our new house. The service was prompt and professional.
The scheduling and information from the office is terrific.
Excellent service, on time and with terrific people. Can't ask for much more when contracting a company to install a generator.

MEL Electric is amazing! From the first meeting with Brandon, the entire crew was so helpful and kind. Eric and Max installed our whole house Generac generator and we couldn't be any more pleased. Matt, one of the owners personally walked us through the equipment upon completion and Ebony, the other owner helped set up the WiFi connection. I had a transfer switch installed along with a change of lighting in my kitchen and family room. The job had to be done in two days to give me the time to order some missing parts. I rarely write reviews but MEL Electric did such a great job I feel compelled to help spread the word. Not only did they do a great job on my home they've also done a fabulous job on my investment properties.
One thing I appreciate is they provide fair prices despite what area you live in. I had several electricians come out to my home who quoted me ridiculous prices because of the area/community that I lived in. Matt came and gave me a fair quote and then delivered on this job which I was thrilled about.

Matt and his team did another great job on some recessed light cans and a couple outlets in my house. Most other places want big jobs that pay more but Matt was, again: fast, affordable, and did great work. He worked with me on getting the specific hardware I picked out and that helped save money (though he did get better prices for the actual Halo cans and wiring, once again saving us money when we really needed it). He scheduled the work super fast, his two man crew did a great job making sure everything worked as I had some details about dimmers I was worried about. They kept it cleaner than any crew that's ever worked on my place. There was some confusion about receiving my payment but he was accommodating, not demanding, and we resolved it easily. And thanks to Ebony for handling some of the scheduling and other details, she was very helpful.

We had three days of work upgrading 1940s and 1950s electrical and adding new circuits. The crew did a great job at a reasonable price. As others have said, Matt communicates well via email, text, phone, etc. Will be calling them for our future projects.

Haven't done the work yet but so far service has been excellent. They submitted a detailed estimate and responded to questions promptly. When I decide to go ahead with the project, replacement of an ancient electrical supply, MEL Electric will be at the top of the list. I also am going to contact them regarding a back-up generator. Living in 3rd World California, which has a totally unreliable power supply system, makes this necessary.
MEL Electric did a great job rewiring our house, which had old knob-and-tube wiring. Their estimate was detailed and reasonable, their communication and follow-through was top notch, and they finished on time. Matt was pleasant and professional. We were happy with the work and would use them again in a heartbeat.
Fantastic experience. My requirements were a little different as I was looking to have a circuit installed for electric home brewing. Matt was extremely patient in guiding me to find the right panels, send him the right pictures, and get the specs for what I needed to have done. The guy that was sent out arrived promptly (always a huge plus when you take the day off to get something like this done), worked quickly and efficiently, and made sure I was satisfied before leaving. I am already working on writing up my next project I will want to hire them for and would highly recommend MEL Electric to anyone looking for honest, quality electrical work.
Matt and his crew always do excellent work. We have hired MEL Electric several times, to replace our main electrical panel, run electricity for a 30amp outlet and they did the electrical work when we added central AC/heat and added power for ductless AC in our studio. He communicates clearly, keeps and leaves the worksite clean, has always had a professional attitude, arrived at the scheduled time, completed the work on schedule and does top quality work. Their prices are fair and reasonable. I will definitely use MEL Electric in the future, should the need arise.
Matt is wonderful to work with! He installed a new electrical box, canned (recessed) lighting in three rooms, replaced lights/fans in our bathrooms and installed a ceiling fan in the master bedroom. What I appreciated with Matt is that he explained everything in detail, including what my options were and price options. He guided me on what to do to prepare, what to expect and everything went exactly as planned. Also, Matt was quick to respond to my questions via text, phone and email. As someone who loves explanations and details, Matt was patient through the process. Also - his prices are very reasonable (after we had several estimates from other companies.) Matt is definitely our go-to guy for all future electrical needs!

Installed 2 standby generators, did excellent work and follow up. Their employees were courteous and kept us informed on the different stages of install. Their bid was fair and right on, no extra charges.
I can't say enough good things about this business! I needed 2 bathroom exhaust fans installed. Great communication, prompt follow up to my initial request for an estimate, reasonable price and easy to schedule work.
Fabian, Mike and Kenny showed up at the scheduled time, completed the job, cleaned up and were gone again in under 4 hours. Except for the lovely new fans, I'd never know anyone was here or had done work. Highly recommend!
Matt and team did a great job installing a 30amp circuit for the new AC unit and at reasonable cost. In and out in underc3 hours. A true professional who hilighted some other issues on the electrical systems in the house ! I really liked that. First class.

Mel electric is the best. I have a salon suite business and every room needed to be upgraded in order to with hold all the electric used on each plug. There was alot of work that had to be done and Matt was able to accommodate my needs and my budget. Reasonable, professional, reliable, and knowledgeable. I will definitely be using them in the future.
Matt is a great guy, very easy to work with. Starts and finishes the job time and shows up on time in the morning. We've had him and his crew out for three different projects since we purchased our home last year. He has put in some can lights, changed out light switches to timer motion sensors, and wired our chicken coup. Our last project he finished a day early and adjusted our final bill to reflect that. We intend to use him for our future projects. We would refer them to any friend or family.
My husband and I own a rental property in Napa but live about 90 miles away. We are between tenants and had a list of tasks that only an electrician could do. After contacting several Napa area electricians and receiving no response or they weren't available my husband called MEL Electric and reached Matt right away. We asked for the impossible or so we thought. Since we were driving in from out of town we needed Matt to come out on a Sunday. He agreed to meet us at the property and even waited when we got stuck in traffic.
Matt set about taking care of all the items on the list and even took the time to answer all our questions in detail. He was so courteous and pleasant. You will not find a more reliable, helpful, reasonable electrician in the Napa area. I only wish he worked up where we live!

MEL Electric is my go-to electrician in the Napa Valley. When I was starting to believe that there was no such thing as customer service, Matt came through and renewed my faith in humanity. Matt and his crew are everything you could want in a contractor. He communicates with you, he actually considers your needs when providing an estimate instead of forcing unnecessary work on you, he shows up when he says he will and on time (!!), gets the job done quickly and his work his top-notch. I couldn't be happier with the service MEL provides.
You won't find a better electrician and all-around nice person. Matt is the best!

We hired Mel Electric to do 4 electrical jobs for us, including wiring and installing electrical access for our new hot tub. Fabian and Michael were wonderful people to have in my home. Friendly, upbeat and clearly enjoying their work, they did an excellent job. They answered all my questions and showed me what they did, and why. They achieved a wiring job, without having to cut into the drywall or make any holes, that other electricians told me was impossible without tearing open the ceiling. I was very, very pleased with the results. To top it off, they did an excellent job cleaning up after themselves. I think they managed to get every speck of dust they made and then some.
