Reviews
First of all, I'm surprised to read the few negative reviews. Jim's approach to doing business was straightforward and fair.
Shay, the super nice office staff is upfront about service charges and helpful with time scheduling. Mike, the electrician was polite and diligent.
Jim is methodical in his approach to the issues, then uses a tier method to pre-determine possible costs. After agreeing on a bid, the job turned out to be less work and he gave me a break on the price A bid is a bid, but Jim felt it was fair. I highly recommend Los Gatos Electric, they're knowledgeable, they want to do a good job and they're competitively priced.
As a previous employer for Los Gatos Electric i can justify my rating. I worked for Jim Holliday also known as James Holliday for 10 months in his office doing all his paperwork and I know that he does LOTS of fraudulent things, from not paying employees (Fraud with payroll) never actually giving a paystub, only giving a time card as a paystub. He failed to give me my W2 on time because he never did payroll like he said he would do. He instead offered me a check for all the money that he had taken from my taxes. This is illegal.
He cheats all of this clients, over pricing and not completing the service he promised.
Don't trust Charles Fredrick as he is GREAT a brainwashing clients and future employees to a join Los Gatos Electric, offering benefits that will be taken away in less then a month.
No electrician has lasted more then 6 months and it can be proven.
Jim doesn't have a valid license to work and doesn't have workers comp. Be on the look out.
Do not do business with this cat he is a fraud. This cat hasn't paid me and my father, both electricians, for almost a year now. He owes us 3 pay checks. We're not the only electricians he hasn't paid, there are at least 2 more electricians that he hasn't paid and not just electricians receptionist that he's had as well. He uses them for a bit then doesn't pay them so they leave. He uses us to do the hard labor and then when I comes to pay day he makes excuses that next week I'll have your money, next, next, and never happened. A year and still haven't gotten paid or heard from this bitch. I recommend everyone report this fraud and don't even think of doing business with this dirt bag. He's a greedy bastard that loves ripping people off.
This company is the worst and have scammed me out of $700 to repair my generator. They came out to my house, performed a tune-up of my generator but could not explain why the generator still would not power on. They took my battery and said they needed order a part and would come back to install. Two weeks later they have not come back and had an excuse that the part was stolen from their PO Box. Jim never calls and always has an excuse. I did make Jim sign a paper to explain the work he said he performed for $700 and had him sign it. This will be key in small claims court. Steer clear of this business.
This company is fraudulent, Jim's electrical license has been suspended for long time, BE CAREFUL with this company I worked with them and they didn't pay me on time, please do your research before hiring. Thrust me
This license is suspended and can not be working with it. He instead uses someone else license. The worst electrical company you can call. Jim, who is the owner is only motivated by money. He wants to sell you a 200 amp electrical panel for $15,000 when I called a different electric and he charged we $5000 with inspection. In Jim proposal he never mentioned a inspection and when I asked he said that it wasn't necessary, which is complete lies since electrical panels clearly need inspections to make sure it is done to code.
We had some very wacky electrical issues that caused sparking after a vacuum shorted an outlet. I called around and others either didn't pick up or were saying they could come out in two weeks. When I called Jim, he said he could be here within the hour.
While Jim was here, he worked methodically to figure out which of the several outlets/lights that were daisy-chained along a hallway was the cause of the short. He ended up fixing it, which was amazing. We are so grateful that Jim dropped everything to come out and help us!

Super responsive and helpful. We hired them for multiple jobs. They always were clear on pricing and timeline. They did both big and small jobs and always did with a smile.
They installed LED can lights in three bedrooms with a wireless Lutron casetta control. What a difference this made.
They added electrical outlets, installed Ring cameras, installed a chandelier. They crawled into the attic to look for the best installation path. They were thoughtful and communicated questions and issues. I appreciated that. Brant was great. Thank you.
Theo tok a service charge of $100 before committing to coming out to give a quote. They didn't come until 3 days later. They took ages to do the job. I then realized they disconnected our AC without checking if we had one. This meant we had to call another electrician out today to fix it. They charged us way too much!

I don't write many reviews but I wanted to express my appreciation for Jim and team at Los Gatos Electric. I called on a Sunday evening after an electrical fire in my kitchen and he walked me through everything I needed to do to be safe until he could get the electrician out to me first thing in the morning. I called other places first and was told they couldn't help me and didn't even take the time to give me advice. So, thank you Jim for taking the time to make sure my family was safe.

Called Los Gatos Electric on a Saturday to discuss upgrading my main electrical panel to support a charger for a Tesla. Phone was answered by Jim Holliday, the owner who asked that I send a couple of pictures of the main and sub panels so he could assess. Later that day, he called me back and said he was in the area and asked if I'd be available at home for his to drop by and see the job in person. At that time, there was no mention of any charge, I just assumed he needed additional info that wasn't included with my pictures.
When he came out, he indicated that there wasn't enough space in any one of the panels to do the upgrade and install the charger, and that the options to upgrade and create space would cost between $2200 and $12000, depending on what option I picked...the most expensive being the option that included 'future-proofing' my house, so that other electrical items could be easily added in the future. The least expensive option included replacing a couple of breakers and sizing them down, so that additional space could be created on the panel. Fine with all this, I signed his estimate for approx $2178 and he asked for a check, which I told him I didn't have with me, but I could pass it on to him on Monday from my office.
Problems started later that evening when he texted me and asked me what time he could pick up the check. I told him I was reconsidering doing the work, before getting a second estimate. He then said I would owe him for a 'dispatch' fee, even though I had never agreed to that, and that I was the unethical one because I asked for time to get a second opinion. It just seems that the sales tactics are too high pressure and that Jim prioritizes collecting the money over doing the right thing for the customer. I am happy I have declined to pursue the project with Los Gatos Electric.

Should've listened to the negative reviews but sadly, I thought the 5 star ones might be legit. Now I'm wondering if they're written by friends. After signing contract and having the most difficult time getting a reply from Jim (he seriously LAGS after he gets your the initial deposit in hand), he finally did some work. UNFORTUNATELY, this man does NOT do honest work nor operate in good faith. Work seemed legit when he asks for payment and only after very close inspection and actual use, we realized that was not done correctly and stopped working quickly after he left, impossible to reach or get Jim to come back out afterwards to fix the job. He completely flat out refused and we were stuck hiring someone else from scratch. This company is a fraud. Use at your own risk.

Had two GFCI breakers fail within 2 days. Went ahead and had all 3 GFCI breakers replaced. Got a discount because more than 1. Tech did great job. Power out only 10 minutes to make the replacements. Yay! Good job. Oh, promptly done.
I called LGE today to hopefully get someone out to my house. Expecting to have to schedule an appointment for days/weeks out, I was pleasantly surprised to know that they could dispatch someone within 30 minutes.
Jim (the owner) showed up and was very pleasant and knowledgable. He fixed my oven in about 15 minutes, cleaned up dangling wires in about 5, then helped me take down a hideous light fixture in a bathroom. It was the most productive and well spent money I have ever spent.
After the appointment, I asked Jim to send over a quote for additional light installment work and, again, expecting this to take a few days, he sent it over in a few hours. Such a great experience and I will definitely be using them again.
Good news, bad news.
Good: 1- They were one of 2 out of 5 vendors I contacted that responded and the only one that followed through with an estimate. 2-Brittany, in the office, was most responsive. 3--The work was done to my satisfaction....but not without....
BAD NEWS: 1-The hourly rate of $250 was higher than I expected. 2--The bathroom fan and closet light were replaced, but I was told that the sheetrock/paint finish work would cost an add'l $150, which I refused to pay as it was part of the job. 3--I was harassed for payment, but kept explaining I'd pay when the work was completed, which I did within 5 minutes of completion. 4--I was told by Jim, the owner, that he'd have to verify that they made the opening in the ceiling bigger, despite me telling him that it was sawed open. 5--HAD I NOT FOUGHT, I WOULD HAVE EITHER HAD A HOLE IN MY CEILING TO FIX MYSELF, OR WOULD HAVE PAID AN ADD'L $150, which he ultimately agreed was part of the job.
I haven't had a chance to use this company but they seemed more straight forward and honest then other companies.
They are little expensive with the set price to come out; which ended up deterring me from using them.
Don't get me wrong they are better priced then many other companies that try to rip you off.

We've recently completed an electrical job with the help of LG Electric, which involved an upgrade and an addition of circuits, installation of equipment and wiring it. The pricing was very fair, the work was done in a timely manner and very professionally.
Looking forward to working with them again!
I'm still shocked at how quickly they came out to help. Got a new dryer and just assumed (dumb) the existing outlet would be fine. They came out same day and changed my 120v for a new 240v. Even helped with a couple other small things at no additional cost. Very professional, extremely knowledgeable and kind to boot! I especially appreciated the less than one hour arrival window and updates.

Hired these guys for a last minute electric work! They worked fast and got the job done and even cleaned up after they were done. Thumbs up. Hard to find reliable people like this.
Trust can be an issue when choosing an electrician. Jim is someone you can really trust. He knows his stuff, provides a fair and complete estimate of what it will take, and he shows up on time! He is everything you would expect from a professional Electrician.
Jim recently installed a Schneider Electric EV Charging station for my new Ford C-max plug-in Hybrid. He found a cost effective way to install the unit in a perfect location with a minimum of materials and wire pulls. I was impressed and it was done in a few hours! The install was perfect and I sure know who I'll call if I need electrical work again.
I don't think you will go wrong with Jim and Los Gatos Electric for your electrical needs.

I had a circuit breaker that would immediately trip every time I would try to reset it. Either the breaker was bad or there was a short circuit in the wiring. It was a Sunday and I needed it fixed that day. The owner, Jim Holliday, had me text him some photos, and then he showed within an hour and replaced the breaker in a few minutes. He charged me $205; he said the weekday minimum for visits is $195 so I got a good deal. Jim's manner was friendly and professional.
My wife and I had a small electrical problem that we needed to have looked at.
I called Jim and he advised me on the phone about what to do until he arrived. He showed up on time and easily solved the problem. He was very pleasant and his workmanship was superior. Jim was a delight - I would quickly recommend him for any electrical need.

Jim went above the call of duty to install my new hot tub. He stayed late and came over on Sunday, all to complete the challenging job on time. He is extremely trustworthy and professional. He also fixed some minor items in my house at no charge. I highly recommend Jim for any electrical work.
We highly recommend Los Gatos Electric. Jim and his crew installed beautiful new LED recessed lights in our kitchen and we love how it turned out. From start to finish Jim showed honesty, integrity and superior quality workmanship. Jim helped us with the design and brought us lighting choices prior to the commencement of the work. The work was performed carefully, thoroughly and on time. And, unlike many electricians, Jim's crew patched, primed and painted the ceiling so when the work was complete it really was finished and beautiful.
Jim has also replaced breakers in our electric panel when needed. Jim is a pleasure to work with and we are grateful that Jim is our electrician.
Jim (the owner) is a customer of ours. He's bought a couple of vacuums from us, and we discovered he was also an electrical contractor. We liked him and had him in mind when we had a call from a customer desperate for service work on her central vacuum. We asked him to perform the work for her. The customer raved about his work and service.
We liked Jim's work so well, we sub contract all our central vacuum installs and maintenance business to him.
Jim was a pleasure to work with and was as helpful as they come. We had some complications with our fixtures and he worked with us until the problem was solved at no addition cost above his estimated cost. He and his team know what they are doing and know how to work with people. Highly recommended!
Not sure who has written all the other reviews here but our experience has not been good. Moved into our new (very old) house a few months ago and called Los Gatos Electric - always like to patronize local businesses and the reviews seemed positive. Jim came to our house with his office assistant and did a house inspection, taking measurements and looking things over. We expected a comprehensive report i.e. to hang some immediate lights and give us a complete re-wiring quote in a couple of days or a week. Received a note from the assistant a couple of weeks later i.e. we are busy but will get your quote to you as quickly as possible. A week later, a text from Jim following up - still no quote and it was clear he wasn't sure which customer we were. It is a pity as we would have no doubt been good customers, but to never receive a quote or explanation is beyond strange - clearly poor business management. Obviously it is a relief as well - we can only imagine what kind of work this company does if they can't get a quote to a customer after 2 months.
Our home was built in the 70's and has the original electric panels. As a safety precaution, we had Jim check it out. Jim was very understanding and was easy to work with. He was very knowledgeable and what he didn't know he was not afraid to say. He did tons of research before coming to us with the best solution. We felt comfortable enough for him to do the upgrade while we were away. Thanks Jim

I highly recommend LGE. Fast response. Skilled and courteous employees.
They can handle everything from a lighting fixture replace to rewiring a whole house.
Jim, the owner, is honest, trustworthy and a good communicator -- something that I really value in a contractor.

I hired Los Gatos Electric to do exterior electrical work that included adding an extra circuit to power a detached workshop building with internal and external lights and electrical outlets. The job also included adding low voltage exterior lighting to my property with timers and motion sensor lights. Jim at Los Gatos Electric is a true professional. He is focused on quality and customer satisfaction. Any time I wanted an adjustment to the work, he had his contractors respond quickly and to my satisfaction. Jim is easy to reach by phone. No waiting for days on end for return phone calls. I most especially appreciated the warranty Jim provides for his work and parts. Shortly after the external low voltage transformers were installed, they both stopped working. Jim replaced these with no cost. Amazingly, Jim even showed up on New Years Day holiday to do the work himself. Wow! I recommend Los Gatos Electric and will definitely hire them again for my future electrical needs.
Not pleased. We had previously been told that our refrigerator was not grounded and needed to be, plus we had a few other minor electrical problems. The only electrician available without having to wait for two weeks was Los Gatos Electric. We were told it was $174 for an hour. We figured that time would be spent fixing our grounding problem. It turned out there was no grounding problem. Two outlets had loose wires and were quickly fixed - that's all that was done. When we were told that the cost was still $174 for the hour, I was livid - I asked if, minimally, a few more electrical problems could be looked at, but were told they were beyond his scope and I guess time had run out . ((The man who came out was very nice, however there was a lot of time spent visiting.) I called Jim and he said that's what we had agreed and yes, he was right. My point was we didn't get $174 worth of value from work done. Not pleased.
Wonderful experience. Had electrical run to a stand alone garage in the backyard. Project was done quickly and with no complications. Jim was professional and answered all of my questions. I left him with a key and instructions and when I returned the job was completed and I was very satisfied with the results. I would trust him with any future electrical.
