Connor was here this morning, spent plenty of time explaining several different reasons to me that I don't really need to have a full house power system, only to keep my thermostat set at a reasonable temperature setting.

Great company to work with.  When Connor came out to look at the project he was on time, professional, clearly knowledgeable, and took the time to explain what needed to happen in order to put in my new generator.  
In their office, Ocea was easy to work with and helped coordinate not only their work but that of the plumbing company who ran the gas line.
I'm very happy to have replace my oil-leaking generator that had been put in by one of their competitors and just sorry that I hadn't called John Hope Electric in there first place!

I'm not a regular review poster, but giving credit where it is due. As a former property manager, I have worked with many electrical (and other) contractors. Recently, our house began having multiple electrical issues, so I started calling local electricians. I hit a few voicemails, with only one call back, and only after a few days had passed. I was able to speak to a human at one outfit, but they could not get me scheduled for weeks.

When I called John Hope Electric, they answered immediately, and had me on their schedule for the next day. I had four separate issues and was expecting this to be ~$1500. On the scheduled day, Robert (Hope electrician) called me hours before my appointment and said he had finished a job earlier than expected, and could either come right now, or at my scheduled time. He came and diligently fixed all four issues in about two hours. All of our troubles are gone and we paid less than $300.

Came out to put a generator plug on my house so I don't have to deal with extension cords when PGE cuts us off. Connor came to look at the application before quoting, and the quote had options that were explained clearly.

The guy that came was professional, clean and friendly. Took the time to understand what I needed and explained what he did and how to use it.

Hired John and his team to do a complete rewire and multiple panel upgrade at my home and ADU in Santa Cruz. He came up with great solutions with multiple challenges when PG&E refused to increase amperage at main panel. His team was always on time and well scheduled. Good communication throughout the project. Worked with my special needs as a do it yourselfer. Quality work with quality parts.John, Ocea, Jesus and Jesse were fantastic to work with. Highly recommended.

I needed electrical gremlins removed from our old home, John Hope Electric was the best estimate, workers communicated well with us. What can I say, these guys did it again,renewed my faith in American small business quality! This is second time I used them,had to get additional outlet for a new electric water heater ,Juan came early morning with everything ready to go.He even siliconed around a drilled hole from exterior to make sure a mouse couldn't get in.Then made sure that the plumber had connections that he might not have on hand.Good to see people still proud of their work and care about the details.keep it up guys!

The entire team at Hope electric is fantastic and highly professional.  We purchased and had installed a Generac 22KW generator from them.  The installation was complex since we had another smaller gasoline generator that we wanted to keep in the circuit and be able to run. Additionally there was some outside wiring that needed to be upgraded, AND we wanted to get this all permitted.  Building permits in Santa Cruz are not easy.  They did a fantastic job of the installation, the set up and dealing with the county. They overcame numerous problems for us, got the work done in a timely manner with no price surprises....I can not recommend them highly enough. John Hope was there when I needed  him. He responded on Sunday and helped during our storm. His staff called me on Monday and they were efficient and communicated with kind understanding. During the increased demands helping others they made room for a visit to my home for professional help . I am thankful we have such a company in our community

We've used a John hope at my business and I recently needed some home repairs done.  Their service was prompt, thorough and professional and he even found a potentially bigger problem by doing a quick safety inspection beyond the immediate known problem. John Hope Electric did a good job with a good price on my home outdoor lighting. So I called them  again to do install a new fixture and re-do some plugs and also look at some track lighting for my rental. They quoted the work on a T&M basis and I noted how long they worked. While they did good work, the billing department sent me a bill which reflected a much longer, obviously approximate time (2 guys for a half day) which after asking questions, they started handwaving this included travel time, and set-up time. After I called them out that no one charges for any of that, and I told them I was there and the times did not line up. They did settle with me on the right charges but I did not appreciate having to police their hours, have to call them on this, and argue with the company about the bill. I am not going back to John Hope, I am sorry they did really nice work, spoiled by the accounting dept bad experience

These guys have done a variety of work for us.  They are always on time and great to work with.  Quality work.  They are my go-to electricians.

They were communicative, accommodating and professional. At a time when it's hard to get a tradesman because everyone is so busy they were able to find time and do a quality job. Their electrician. Patrick was extremely personable and helpful.

Umm... $5000 to install two 220V power outlets??? 2-3 hours of work, about 150 feet of wire and two circuit breakers?

Thanks, but no thanks. Took me just a little over an hour to get both installed myself.

P.S. my review is solely based on the price quoted. I can't provide any work quality review. But for this much money??? Are the wires they install made out of gold???
P.P.S. Total time spent: about 20 minutes doing research online, about an hour at Home Depot. About 1.5 hours installing everything.

In response to John H. the owner: like I said, it took a total of about $150 for materials and a few hours of work for me to do the same job you quote $5000 to do, with all the permits and certifications (yes, I am certified to work with electrical equipment). All the outdoor certified conduits, the properly gauged wires, the double-pole circuit breakers - that all costs pennies. The work itself doesn't require any PhDs or even a masters degree (heck, not even a bachelors one!) I'm sure there are people who are happy to part with their money to get a nail hammered into a wall to hang a picture. I'm not one of them. If I'm quoted exorbitant amount of money for a job that requires very little skill or education - I'll do my research and do the job myself, thank you very much. 3 hour job at $5000 - that's over $1500 per hour. Even lawyers rarely charge that much.

And, by the way, the price quoted is nearly double of what the next highest quote I got from local electricians. The most acceptable quote I got was about $500 per circuit. Still too high, in my opinion, but $1000 for two circuits definitely beats the $5000.

Recently, from a referral, I contacted John Hope Electric to hang a chandelier in my studio salon in Aptos.  Long story short I had previously contacted FIVE other electricians who either did not respond, did not show up, gave me quotes but never returned calls, or cancelled after work was scheduled.  I was so frustrated!!  Then I called John Hope... Best decision ever!  

John showed up on time at my studio to assess and provide a quote.  He was professional and knowledgable, he gave me realistic expectations, explained possibilities, provided a quote when he said he would (that was incredibly reasonable might I add) and I was able to easily schedule work.  Come the day of when work was to happen, his technician (Cree) showed up eager and ready to do the work.  Cree was awesome!  He was very professional and did a great job.  He finished promptly and kept the salon very neat and tidy.

Billing was a breeze also!  Everything was as quoted, and the receptionist was so easy to work with.  Online billing was a plus!

Overall, I was so pleased with everything they did.  I am SOOOOO thankful!  I now only wish they did plumbing and construction/handyman work because now I'm having the same problems trying to schedule some other work.

These guys were not our first call, but I'm really glad we found them.  We were interested in getting a getting a hot tub, but needed to have electrical run to our backyard and we knew it would not be an easy job.  We initially got an estimate from another company. It was SO HIGH that at first we decided to give-up on the idea.  Then, in talking with a hot tub dealer, we got a recommendation to John Hope Electric for a second opinion.  I'm VERY glad we decided to give it a shot.  
They quickly responded to my inquiry and soon came out to review our property. They gave us a couple of different options, BOTH less than the original estimate, but still more than we were likely to spend. However, they ALSO were very observant and discovered an abandoned conduit that the previous owners had covered-up which turned out to be EXACTLY what we needed to run the new line. This literally saved us THOUSANDS and made the job affordable to do.
Once we approved the estimate they scheduled the job, showed-up on time, and completed it right on schedule budget. Their work is very clean, totally up to code, serviceable, and built to last.  
Highly recommend and will absolutely use these guys again.

This is by far the best experience I have ever had with an electrician.  I had a circuit breaker issue.. etc etc etc... I called John Hope Electric at 10AM, talked with John who said he could get someone out to my house before Noon.  I was so happy to hear the turn around time.  Thirty minutes later, my doorbell rings.  I mean WOW! The electrician immediately got to work.  Jesus was awesome, friendly, and knowledgeable.  About an hour and a half later, everything was figured out and fixed.  I was super happy.

Yay! I would recommend John Hope Electric to anyone looking for an electrician.

We have the Winchester Mystery House of electrical wiring (crazy town!).  We've had other electricians in to address specific problems we experienced (all did acceptable work), and have received advice from them to obtain another line from PG&E, install a larger box, rewire the converted barn on our property - some big ticket items.  Our electric bill seems wildly high already, and we'd like to move toward solar.  We decided to have all of our electrical wiring inspected to have a consolidated list of the issues to be addressed in order to prioritize work that's needed.

Called John Hope Electric, based on Yelp reviews.  WOW!  He is fantastic.  Ultra responsive, down to earth, ethical, knowledgeable, efficient.  He was great at dispelling some of the potentially very costly advice others had given, backing it up with practical information and experience.  John is VERY easy to work with and is flexible.  He did an initial review, and we set up a follow up appointment for a full inspection and some work for the more critical areas we wanted handled.

His crew showed up right on time this morning.  They were professional, friendly, hard-working, knowledgeable, and highly efficient.  They had all the tools and components they needed, and were thorough in their inspection and assessment.  They plowed through a mesmerizing amount of work, replacing failed outlets, running new wire, testing, and fixing issues as they went.

We are very pleased and feel blessed to have found this company!  John Hope Electric will be our electrician for as long as we both shall live (or work or own the house.)

These guys are professional, on time and do it right. We had them do a bunch of various things from installing lights in the ceilings and exterior lights where there were none and running electrical power here and there.

I have had nothing but good experiences working with John Hope Electric. I had a tenant contact us as 2:30 that they had no power due to a blown fuse and John was out there within an hour even though it was a last minute call. I too am a fan. I had read the reviews here on Yelp and hoped I too would be pleased. I called on a Thursday and the next morning at the time set for me (8am), Jesus was at my door. I explained to him the work I needed done in my nonelectrical language and he got it. He installed two external light fixtures and an external electric box within the hour all the while working quietly. Jesus's professionalism and pleasant demeanor are two traits that leave a lasting impression. I am super delighted with John Hope Electric's service and don't hesitate to refer them with 100% confidence.

I will never have to call another electric company again.  John and his staff/crew far exceed my expectations.  John's crew was always on time, knew what they were doing, kind, clean, courteous, and kept me informed of ALL changes or concerns.  I am so happy to have John Hope Electric's on my side!  Also, I have to give 5 Stars to Carl!  Knowledge of your trade is so important when you are trying to count your nickels, dimes, and pennies.  Carl never wasted a minute on the job!

I had used Hope electric before and they did the job.  This time I called about installing a chime button for a musical doorbell.  It is a unique button as it has to have a diode attached to make the music play.   He wasn't familiar, but no problem.  Never heard from him again, even though i called several times.  Doesn't matter the reason, not either setting a time to do the work or calling back to say can't do it is a bad business practice.

These guys are GREAT.  They did a tricky job for me in the past, very high quality work and very professional.  I had a problem (unrelated to anything they did) today and John suggested a few things to check to save me the cost of a service call.  Awesome.

We used John Hope for one job.  They got a good deal of work done in the time they were on site.  I greatly appreciated how quickly they were on the job from the time I called and how productive and friendly they were on site.

This guy is awesome.  I called his number at 4:50 on a Friday afternoon with a problem with a bathroom light and fan.  I was prepared to have to go without the light for the night and then pay a weekend rate for an electrician to come out on Saturday. He explained to me about GFI's (without even making me feel stupid!) and had me try it.  Of course it worked. Now I am committed to him as my electrician - great guy.

Fearful of a long dark winter due to multiple light fixtures in my home suddenly not working, I started making calls to the yelp list of electricians. Luckily John Hope Electric was near the top so I called and got help the next day. John Milligan spent about an hour or  less trouble shooting, finding  and fixing the problem.  Quiet, polite, focused, efficient. Thanks guys!
