I had Ben Franklin Plumbing replace my sewer to the street and replumb all the drains under the house. They did a fantastic job. In particular the employees Javier, Takai and Armando worked tirelessly on the sewer and did it in one day. Their employees Dindi and Adrian replaced the pipes under the house with great energy and work ethic. Everything was accomplish in one day and all were very professional and friendly. I high recommend Ben Franklin and these people. Ben Franklin is not the cheapest game in town but they're are excellent.

Called the plumber for a 94 year old friend regarding her toilet leaking. It looked like the leak was from the valve. When the plumber came we were told the entire toilet needed replacement. The toilet itself is in perfect condition, no cracks but I was informed the parts that need replacement is old. We were quoted somewhere around $1300 to replace toilet. That didn't sit right with me so I decided to get a quote from another plumber and even called my boyfriend who's pretty handy. Everything is googleable these days. Turns out we only needed to replace tank bolts which costs $5.27 plus tax at Home Depot. My boyfriend and I fixed it ourselves. Problem solved! How dare they try to take advantage of people especially a senior citizen!

Almost got scammed by this company. So had a whole house inspection done on 9-2-22 by Matthew ( only did about 1/4 of it ) and told us the water heater had a leak from the inside of it and water damaged to the floor, and jus so happens
that his friend was John a restoration company was in the area. John arrived in 10 min and told us
that for $1,800 I can do the job. Also Matthew gave us an estimate of $ 3,800 to do the job.
So told them hold on as we wanted other estimate. We called Plumbing Care they came
out inspected the water heater and floor and found NOTHING wrong with the heater and floor.
They probed the floor and found no water damaged, thank god for plumbing care and
didn't even charge us!! Now Benjamin won't return our calls for why they lied to us!

Toddlers always find something to get into! This time our toddler decided to see how much our bathtub drain could handle. It was flooding and a very very slow drain. Called Benjamin Franklin and it was so easy to get an appointment. They were courteous, got all the details and came out quick! Edgar was fantastic! He explained to me everything he was going to do and what steps came first. Before coming into my home he made sure he had shoe coverings and made sure when he left that the bathroom was clean! Pricing was not bad at all for the work he performed. I will continue to use them for any future concerns. I highly recommend!

Email for Ben Franklin Plumbing?
Does any one know of a email address for Ben Franklin Plumbing? All the email from them comes from a no-reply address. I have some insurance papers to send them for a claim. Phone calls go to an answering service, that takes everything down yet no one will call you back. Stay clear. Any business without an email is hiding from something.

This is for the San Jose location. I was about to have them do the plumbing work when I realized I should get other quotes, even though it meant waiting for an urgent and messy plumbing job. They were the first outfit I called. So glad I did and so happy that I had a chance to read their reviews on Yelp! This outfit is price gouging and are GREEDY. They were charging me $6,000 for a job when all the other quotes came in at around $2,000. I can't speak to their quality of work, but based on what they would have charged me, I would give them a miss.

The water heater installed by Benjamin Franklin Plumbing (in 2020) stopped working.  I called them, and the next day Daniel came out and fixed it.  Based on the phone conversation we had, he diagnosed the problem, got the right replacement part, came to my house and did the repair in about 25 minutes!  I can't say enough about how impressed I am.  Easy, and (since I had the extended warranty) free to me.  Great job!

Horrible, horrible service.  This is the second time now that the defined service window has not been honored.  Their tag line is the punctual plumber.  As a customer, I'm here to tell you that this tag line is completely false.  If you are looking for a service commitment, do yourself a favor, look elsewhere.

Get a second quote, they WAAAAY over estimated the work needed for our repairs.  If the estimate was even close to actual, I would not be writing this review.  Disappointing too, as we have had positive experience with BF plumbing in the past, but this instance left us severely disappointed.  We had technician Martin G. come out to take a look at our rental unit for a popup sink issue and a leak coming from a toilet handle.  What we got back after Martin's visit were a few estimates, the high being a complete removal of a pedestal sink and full replacement of a toilet.  We're talking north of a $2.5k charge. With that high of an estimate, I just had to go to our rental and take a look at the job for myself.  The pop up drain was resolved with a removal of the ball and rod lever arm in the back, wiping it down with CLR, re-greasing it, and resetting the pull arm mechanism.  I could see if the sink was difficult to get to making this repair difficult, but I promise you, this was not the case as the pedestal in the back is 9 inches from the wall and open, enough room to get a wrench, a hand or two, a beer can or whatever back there.  My point is, there is plenty of room to reach the repair unless you are Andre the Giant or have baseball gloves on. Total cost of this repair was two rags, some CLR cleaning solution purchase, and some plumbing grease.  Sink back to full working order, and just absurd that the proposal was to remove the entire sink from the wall to fix an easy lever arm, and then reinstall  - $1.3k saved.  Other than cleaning out some hair from the drain, I didn't really have to touch the popup assembly much, the assembly that BF wanted to charge ~$300 to fully replace by the way.  Now off to tackle this supposedly horror of a toilet.  With the estimate, the technician took plenty of pictures  of the rear tank of the toilet to show that it was in dire condition with rust and mineral build up all over the place.  Sure, areas looked like the dirty water of a toilet as opposed to the clean area.  Closer inspection, again, way over estimate of the work needed.  Drained the tank, removed and tossed the old flush/floater assembly which was indeed rusty, scrubbed the inside of the upper tank with wire brush for about 2minutes, flushed out the debris, and done, good as new.  You can now cook a meal in there, it is so clean.  Quick trip to Home Depot for DYI universal flush assembly for $25, followed basic instructions on the box, and job is done.  Water was leaking from the handle  cause the water level was too high - hardly something difficult for a plumber to figure out.  Nothing here required any special skills or know how other than a wrench, a credit card for home depot purchases, and English reading skills to read the instructions (or Spanish, or French, or Japanese - guess they sell this toilet kit in lots of places).  Most definitely nothing that required replacing an entire toilet for the BF price of $800.  Now the end of my review here.  Sure, some of the above steps might be worrisome for folks to tackle on their own, I get that, but NOTHING warranted full replacement as this BF technician recommended.  I put this estimate that we got on par with a suggestion to get a new car cause your windshield wiper blades are not working.  I expected better from BF, you should too.

Update 10/12 - Shortly after posting this review, the South Bay BF representative reached out to me and we had a good conversation.  We were  offered a fair discount on future work if we choose to call them, so we shall see when the next need arises.  Still a cautionary tale to always evaluate the work estimate for yourself or get a second quote.

A plumber from Benjamin Franklin came out to look at my leaking tankless water heater. Just looked, took a few pictures, and then quoted me over $2,000 to replace the circulation pump. But said that might not fix it, and it would take a few days to get the pump. So it might be smarter to replace the whole unit for $6,000, which they could do right away of course.

Later that day, a different plumber called me back, was able to squeeze me in, and replaced the pump that day for $375. The pump itself was $250.

Benjamin Franklin tried to scam me. Quoting me over $1,750 for service to install a $250 pump, and then trying to upsell me while they were at it. These guys are crooks, call someone else.

I had a water leak from my ceiling, Benjamin Franklin plumbing service responded quickly and sent an engineer over to check the issue promptly. The engineering name is Takai, he troubleshooted the issue quickly and was able to find the root cause, he then fixed the issue and did a regression test to ensure no more leaking and water (hot/cold) runs properly. Takai's service was excellent, and he was able to present the issue and root cause to me clearly. thanks!!!

The tenants suspected CO and asked the city to check. The city found out the problems:  oven-venting need to be aligned, as well as the burner of the oven needs repair.  They suggested to call plumber and appliance contractor to fix the problems.

I have Benjamin Franklin came over today to check out the venting.  The technician checked and could not find any problem, but he didn't even turn on the oven to check for any CO.  Instead, he  called me to say that there is gas leakage in the crawl space as the pipes are rustic and could cause explosion any time.  He recommended to replace the gas line for $10,000, which is better than any explosion.  He told me the visit itself cost $199 if I don't do any work, though it says $79 on internet.  When I asked the technician for proof of the gas leakage, he hung up.  The tenants told me the technician left without saying anything, or leaving a note.

I was concerned about the potential explosion and wanted to talk to the technician for more details.  He didn't pick up the phone and I called the office.  They told me someone would get in touch with me regarding the issue.  I need someone to confirm the potential gas explosion.  But no one called after several hours.

To no avail, I called the city again and told them what the technician told me.  They sent out someone to check for gas leakage immediate.  They mentioned that most likely the contractor tried to upset.  But for peace of mind, they would check for gas leakage.  The results from the city came back that there is no gas leakage.

Please be aware of this company - they don't bother to find the problem and up sell you something that cannot fix the problem.

Let me start with the scheduling and communication process with Ben Franklin plumbing was very good 4 of 5.

Where i score vendor Ben Franklin down is when i got the bill it was over $600 for two hours of work.  When i asked if the labor late was $300/hr or more i received no follow up communication.   I know the parts for the repair were $30-40 tops for the repair so the significant cost is not materials related.

I called Benjamin Franklin Plumbing for an issue with my main water valve.  First their availability was fantastic! They offered to send someone within a few hours, but I opted for the following morning.  Although I had a wide service arrival window I received a text message and a call alerting me to technician's arrival after a half hour into it.

Field Supervisor Matthew Stymest arrived and he was courteous, professional, and extremely knowledgeable of my issue.  He repaired the valve in what seemed like seconds!  Okay, it was seconds...I thought my valve was stuck and I did not want to force it open/closed and bend/break it.  Matthew walked over and pulled the valve closed like it was nothing.  And after all that he managed to not make me feel like a complete idiot.  I really appreciated the professionalism and would definitely work with Benjamin Franklin Plumbing again!

Matt came out quickly to diagnose the problems, and Pablo and Salvadore came out promptly afterwards and did a great job replacing the shower valves and installing new hardware.  Everyone always wore masks even while they were working, which is reassuring in these times.  They also always wore protective shoe covers while walking inside the house as to not attract dirt in.  Pablo and Salvadore were very meticulous and made sure everything was installed correctly.  In addition, Pablo gave me a lot of good instructions and insight on how to maintain and take care of the installed items in the future.  Overall a great experience and highly recommend this team.  Thanks!

I contracted Benjamin Franklin to simply have a garbage disposal replaced. The plumber offered to inspect my drain pipes. He told me my drain pipes were brittle and all needs to be replaced. The quote was $6,000. I trusted the expert and accepted the work.. it turned out my pipes were completely fine and this was an absolute lie. I was taken and do not recommend this company because they are not trusteorthy. They offered only half my money back because they did the work even though it was not necessary. Be warned!!!! have

Danny T came to our rescue today and boy did he rescue us! We had a badly clogged/slow drain kitchen sink and upstairs bathroom linked to a main line under the house. Danny was such a pleasure to work with. He was very friendly, courteous and knowledgeable. He was thorough in his work cleaning out the clogs from 3 different entrance points until all drains were draining quickly/normally. Danny explained everything he was doing as he was doing it and he did a great job keeping everything clean in the work area. We got to see the high def camera view in the main line and where the cast iron pipe wall build up narrows. The main line was put in when the house was built in 1967 so theres a lot of hard crusted build-up in the pipe walls that a simple snake cannot remove. Danny recommended babying the current line and if the clogs continue it signals the time to replace the old cast iron main line in the crawl space with a new ABS pipe (between $2600-3500). Charges came in at $298+$149 for the main line clean out and shower drain.  Danny was awesome, highly recommend him and looking forward to having him help us out in the future when the next plumbing disaster strikes!

A Benjamin Franklin plumber was  able to come promptly to assess an urgent situation of a toilet not flushing and shower valve leaking.  But then the plumber jumped to the conclusion that the only solution was to replace the toilet for over $1000 and to break through through wall to replace the shower valve at a cost of $2400 plus engaging another contractor to repair and paint the wall.  Fortunately I got the sense the plumber did not know what he was doing or was overselling or both.  I got a second opinion from a different plumbing company, which  was able to address both issues with minor tweaks for under $500 total.  So all I was stuck with was the $79 diagnostic fee from Benjamin Franklin and the inconvenience of having to schedule two plumbers.  Never again for Benjamin Franklin though.

I had a drain pipe that was cracked and leaking at the seams under my house, so I gave Benjamin Franklin Plumbing a call to get an estimate. Matthew, the Field Supervisor, came out and checked the cast iron drain lines and took pictures to show me, then gave me a reasonable and fair price quote. He was able to schedule the work quickly, so I didn't have to wait long. The plumbers Alex and Salvador were soon hard at work removing the old drain pipes and replacing them with new ABS drain pipes. They arrived on time and were very polite and friendly. They always wore shoe covers when they were inside the house and put down floor mats for their tools when they were replacing the piping and toilet flange inside of the home. This team is amazing to work with, and I will definitely use them for future jobs. Matthew, Alex, and Salvador, thank you so much for all you hard work!

Charges a $79 trip fee for a simple estimate of work. Thanks for not making my elderly mother aware of this beforehand. And the noisy toilet they recommended replacing entirely for $800? The noise is fixed by... holding down the handle when flushing, instead of pushing and letting go. Wow. Scam artists!

We paid a very high price to have our kitchen drain unclogged.  It worked fine for a few days but then clogged again.  When they returned we were going to be charged the same high price again to have the same work performed. Then they gave us an estimate for unnecessarily replacing pipe which would have meant tearing out a wall, part of our floor, and part of the slab beneath the house.   No thank you.

ZERO.ZERO! 1) rec'd txt @ 7:30AM, 6hrs prior to apnmt - called office & indication was it must have been an error without providing a root cause why I was caused consternation - I know it's not personnel so it's going to happen to other people.
2) later, notified a person will be on site within 30 minutes...one hour and 15 minutes later, an individual arrives with total casual attitude and no comment about time/lateness.
3) after brief description of job requirements, a) upsell for more work than what' s required, b) immediate drive for additional upsell...all the conversation had nothing to do with the plumbing issue I needed to solve.
4) for the original work I needed, the part cost is $10.50, their bid was $1,100 - 110X the part cost - I get it...it's not just the part but disgusting $uplift.

Recently I discovered a very slow leak in the Kitchen sink faucet (only 3 year old) so I called Ben Franklin plumbing as i suspected it was a bad o ring and could easily be repaired. Appointment was scheduled promptly on Saturday and they came out Monday morning. The tech they sent was nice, arrived with a mask, so far so good, but this is where things went south. He took one look and said he agreed it was probably a leaking washer and didn't want to try and fix it because there was no guarantee it wouldn't break again. He said he needed to replace the entire assembly. i asked how much to replace the faucet and he said $699! I asked if he was kidding, he said no. I looked up the faucet he wanted to replace it with online, $130 at home depot, i assume a contractor gets it for less. How could a 40 min job cost almost $600 of labor. He told me the place they have to buy their parts from costs more then Home depot and he had no choice to but to buy it there

My wife and i are both working from home and crazy busy with zoom calls all day, so i reluctantly said ok. Feeling like i was being completely ripped off i called him while on his way to pick up the part and said i need an adjustment on the price or i would cancel. They immediately took $100 off the price, down to $599 now for a 100 dollar and part and 45 min of labor

To be clear, the tech was more then competent, extremely polite and finished quickly. However i cannot recommend Ben Franklin plumbing unless you want to pay massive markup. I have no problem with people making a reasonable profit, but this was clearly an attempt to take people who are in a bind. Consider buying the part yourself(if you know what's wrong) and finding a local handyman or woman to install. Probably would have saved $450 to $500.

Edgar Cabrera and Jose Hernandez did an exemplary job getting the recycling pump on my tankless water heater set up and running, repiping the whole house in copper, installing a RO water softener, changing fixtures on my sinks/showers and re-routing outside water lines to make them more easily accessible. Edgar was very knowledgeable.  At my request he pointed out where future potential problems could arise via phone photos, but never pushed me to do more than I wanted.   Jose worked on the plumbing as well, and also repaired the stucco and sheetrock that they needed to breach to get access to pipes.  Both men worked outside during the heat wave (103 degrees), as well as in the crawl space.  They worked slowly so as to be meticulous.  They showed me the damaged and leaking pipes they replaced. They were pleasant and courteous at all times, and worked really well as a team.  They were punctual, maintained Covid protections and cleaned up well every day.  I highly recommend them.

We had a terrific experience with this company.  Just before our holiday dinner, we discovered a major leak in the garage due to a copper pipe connection. I checked Yelp for emergency plumbers and we tried three places, but they could not come out until Saturday or we were outside their service area. After remembering a radio commercial of all things, I looked up Benjamin Franklin Plumbing and we contacted them. The person answering the phone asked detailed questions and was an excellent communicator. Fast forward to the end result--- the Benjamin Franklin plumber saved the day! The plumber was courteous, competent and of course, punctual. I am grateful the leak was taken care of and that the plumber did the work to make sure this type of leak would not happen in the future. Thank you! I highly recommend this company based on this experience.

DO NOT HIRE THEM

This company apparently does not know the local rules of Fremont city and have put me in a tough spot.

I had a sewer line backup and got it inspected by Benjamin Franklin Plumbing. They looked at it and told me that roots have damaged the old clay sewer lateral and it needs to be replaced from the house till the property line beside side walk and i have two install two clean outs first one near the home and second one near the property line beside sidewalk.I repeatedly asked about the part of sewer lateral from the clean out beside side walk to city main sewer connection and was told that Fremont city is responsible for maintaining that part and they would clean it out in case there is a backup from there.

After the job was done i had a sewer backup again and on contacting Benjamin Franklin (Matt and Chris) i was told that i have to call the city.I informed them that USD told me that in Fremont city the part for sewer lateral from sidewalk to sewer main is home owners responsibility and they initially did not agree and kept on arguing.I was stuck for 2 days without using the restrooms after spending 11K on the sewer replacement and cleanout installation.

After 3 days Matt contacted and said that city changed the rules all of a sudden and informed that homeowner has to now maintain the part of sewer lateral from sidewalk to sewer mains (Really!!!, its hard to believe that they do not know the rules of the job they perform at customer side and want customer to suffer due to their lack of knowledge) .When i asked them to fix their screwup they gave me a quote of 18000 dollars to fix the part of sewer lateral that connects from cleanout near side walk to the city mains. This sounded a unreasonable high amount to me so i checked with other plumbers local to Fremont and got a quote of 1/4the of what they are demanding.

From my personal experience DO NOT HIRE them unless you have tons of money to waste.

I was looking for a sewar repair for our house in Palo Alto for several years suspecting that our tall palm tree was directly over the sewer line in front yard.
Hector, the emergency plumber that came out to fix our blocked bathrooms was extremely professional. He later presented a quote to replace our sewer line with an insert under the palm tree. No other plumber came with such good tools to perform an accurate quote. Hector was an excellent engineer, salesman, and project manager. The team that did all the heavy work over the next few days were great as professionals who were very personable and helpful. All permits and inspections were managed by Ben Franklin as well. I am so glad to have this nagging problem behind us. Also, the front yard was restored to near perfect condition so digging done was not noticeable when they were done. Front office phone support has handled so well.

Absolutely way overpriced. Fee to replace broken bathroom faucet $783. My regular plumber estimated $370... After the fact.

Purchased maintenance contract including Ben Franklin plumbing and Mr. Sparky, but extremely difficult to contact. Way over-charged for outside plumbing issues also. Beware.

Sean and Jason were prompt, professional, efficient and fast. Once Top Down Restoration. (See review on their page), was done clearing the putrid pool beneath my house, they had the two day job done by noon the second day. Sean was great at communicating with me checking in and letting me know everything that was being done and updating me on how much more needed to be done and how long it would take. He also was very friendly and made me smile in light of being sick and this huge plumbing mess a few days before Christmas. Thank you so very much Sean and Jason! I will definitely be calling your boss, Bob Bachman, to tell him what a great job you both did!

Update to my previous review.  I have been a customer for many years and relied on Benjamin for all my plumbing services.  I had one bad experience within the 3+ years of membership.  When I had this experience Bob Bachmann, Ops Manager personally reached out to me to apologize.  I had been on the brink of never working with this company again however after speaking with him, I feel I am valuable to their business.  I have had this company replace my main under house pipe, water heater, overflow and two toilets.  Long story short... they do care about their customers.

Had a leak coming from my shower drain.  They came out and Wyane quoted me over $1k to replace my copper p trap drain with abs drain and p trap. The problem was all I needed to replace was a Floorstone Pan gasket that only cost me $25 to replace.  I value honesty above all else and because of their actions I WILL NEVER CALL them when I really need Plumber

We had a crack in the sewer pipe joint going from our house to the main sewage line at the end of January.  Pablo Cabrera and Dende Sherpa worked in the rain, removing our patio pavers, digging down 5 feet and making the repairs.  Then they put it back together for us.  They were very polite, thorough and explained everything they were doing.  We were very pleased and will recommend Benjamin Franklin to our neighbors.  Thank you.

We bought a new dishwasher and needed some plumbing work on Sunday. I went to Yelp to find a plumber, read several reviews and decided to call Benjamin Franklin Plumbing. Tim arrived on time, provided quote options, and was very professional. We scheduled the job for Tuesday, and Tim arrived right on time. He was very kind and courteous, and did excellent work. We highly recommend Tim and this company!

Benjamin Franklin may be on the higher end in pricing, yet a Company which stands in professional completely work done. On a Sunday afternoon we noticed water leaking out from vanity in the bathroom. Checking the Water Heater, it was obvious it has leaked, corroded, some mold in the closet, detrimental. At this point, calling a plumber knowingly would be frustrating, first call was answering machine, then after, we were in contact with plumber Daniel. He was here Monday morning with an estimate in addition to taking out the old, bad water heater. He gave us resources to restore the damage; NRT company representative William came to respond to our situation. They were on track in the first step procedure to dehumidifier dry, removing wet dry wall, vinyl preventing more damage. They then recommended company BOLD where we were in contact with Greg for the final reconstruction. After each channeled step to complete, we were ready for plumber Daniel S to install a New water heater. He also replaced the old toilet which had a crack leak, a new faucet had low drip and noticed it wasn't properly connected. All this in a timely manner. Thank you Benjamin Franklin for your expertise work and resources when time is limited!

I am so happy we called Benjamin Franklin. Danny was courteous, professional, efficient and patient.  We called him to put together our bathroom after our new floors were installed. While the floors were being done, a weird pipe was found in the house and he came that day to take a look at it and offer advice how best to deal with it. He was knowledgeable and didn't try to upsell us into doing an expensive fix we couldn't afford. Since we weren't sure when the floors would be completed, we had to keep him waiting to be called. He made quick arrangements to come to our house when we did call and got the bathroom put together quickly and professionally with attention to detail. He stuck to the estimate and we had no surprises.
I usually hate dealing with workers but I was quite comfortable and trusting of Danny and will for sure be asking for him for all our plumbing needs.

I would not recommend this company to anyone!!! I made an appointment to have my sewer line checked out as it keeps backing up.  I needed a quote for any repairs or complete replacement.  I was given appointment and a 4 hour window.  The Technician (James) calls me over the phone and tells me it will be $8900 to replace the whole line and that's our price.  If you agree to this then I will come over.
I explained to him that the appointment was for him to come and check the line personally and then look at the situation first before giving me any price just like that.  He said he will charge $79 to come out.  That's his gas charge.
He was very arrogant and threatening as well.  He did not want to do what the appt was set to do?  When I asked him that his office has waived the fees for inspection as its a big job, he started arguing and said we don't work for free blah blah.
DO NOT WASTE your hard earned money with these guys.  There prices was also almost double to what a normal company would charge for the same job ( I found out later after I got another quote).
Thank god I did not go with these guys.

If you have lot of money to throw, then you are welcome to go with them.  I certainly would like to use my money wisely, and when I have to spend close to $5000,,, I will look around and take a few quotes.

Don't go on these guys BBB rating and all that.  I am sure some Franchisees are fine but these guy was way out of line.
I told this guy I will give a negative review for his attitude and the way he was threatening...he said go ahead...I don't care...!!!

I had a problem with a leaky toilet and checked online. Benjamin Franklin was the only plumber who had the better business bureau approval and diamond excellence certification. I called on Sunday and they gave me the choice of Sunday night emergency or turn the water off until Monday. (189$ vs 59$) Tuned the water off and waited. The repairman, Martin Gamboa, was AMAZING!  Martin explained everything he was doing in laymen's terms, gave me options and was even able to get me a discount.  I've had other local plumbers come out but none of them have been as professional and thorough as Martin! You've got a customer for life!

Very poor administration and customer service...

In January I called Benjamin Franklin Plumbing to fix the leaking pipe in my home. The technician gave me a hand-written invoice showing about $900.00 worth of repair that was not clear to me.

I called four different times requesting an explanation by the tech or his supervisor with no avail.

It looks like they are running a business that is more in a shady side than a straight business.

I suggest that you ask for a supervisor's direct number or Email if you think you may need to get back to them...

I believe this is pure scam. For changing 3 faucets, I got a quote that was 3 times the next most expensive quote. I do not believe it should take about $899. The worst part is they charged me $89 to come and give me this unacceptable quote. So, I was either to pay them $89 and say no to work or accept $899 to get the work done. Obviously, I said no. But wanted to share it here to avoid others from falling for this trick. Got a different licensed plumber to come and get the whole work done in a third of this quote.

I am only giving 3 starts..  Yes, the person was prompt and got the job done.. But Benjamin Franklin is WAY TOO expensive and they charged me $900+ just to replace the kitchen faucet and a couple of minor things underneath the faucet..  Yes, they brought a VERY CHEAP faucet and the person took slightly more than an hr to fix stuff..  $900+ is way too much and of course we are all dealing with unprecedented times and getting someone to fix it it great..  So be aware that these guys are VERY  VERY expensive

BFP came out and gave me an estimate of over 3K to replace the water heater install new lines, fixtures, earthquake straps and pull permits. Checked Angie's list and had another plumber come out. Told me that the water heater just needed a thermo coupler. I had that person do the work and I saved quite a bit of money. You have been warned!!

Let me be clear: the technical people here are pretty solid. Chris, our technician was great, very responsive and incredibly competent. Now, for the rest of the company, while nice and trying to be helpful, fall short. Let me explain:

My water heater--about 4 years old--started not warming water (i.e., the point of the water heater). The light on the device was blinking six times, which, according to my 1st grader (and confirmed by me) meant the burner needs to be replaced. So I called Benjamin Franklin as they had installed a new thermo coupler last year. I notified the person on the phone that the light indicates the burner is not working. He responded, it's probably the therm coupler. I responded with, No, it's the burner. As indicated by the blinking light. He was adamant: They're all the same thing, it's probably the thermo coupler. I rolled my eyes (which he couldn't see) but was happy that he said he'd send a technician the next morning (Sunday).

Sunday: Chris arrived early and I was super happy. That was, until, he said, wait, the burner isn't working. Why'd you say thermo coupler? Imagine my severe annoyance. I let him know that the guy on the phone said it was the thermo coupler even when I insisted it was the burner because, well, I can read. He said he'll check on the part and try to install it Monday or Tuesday when it's available. Got it. A couple days of cold showers. I'll manage--even if I had a sick kid at home. S--- happens.

Monday: Chris called and said the part should be under warranty (I would hope so as the damn thing is 4 years old)--but it won't get in until Friday or the following Monday. I was furious. In this day and age, you can literally get anything from anywhere in the world within 48 hours. Hell, I was willing to pay for the shipping from anywhere in the world. But no, Friday or Monday. Fine, whatever.

Tues-Thursday: Cold showers, showering at the gym, boiling water and giving kids bucket baths. You know, real Silicon Valley lifestyle. I called Thursday to see what was up. The woman on the line told me that she'll schedule something for the following day, Friday, to get it installed. Awesome, I thought. Finally, some hot water.

Friday: Chris called me Friday morning and I'm thinking he's on his way over. Nope. He just called to let me know the part isn't in yet. And he hadn't spoken with anyone at HQ. Again, I was furious. What is wrong with communications at this place? How hard is it for the left hand to talk to the right hand?

Saturday: I called BFP again and the woman insisted the part was here and she'll schedule something for Sunday morning. Again, I thought, fantastic, hot shower tomorrow! So grateful for living in 2017!

Sunday: Chris called and said no part in yet. ARE YOU SERIOUS? What is wrong with you people? To his credit, he apologized profusely on behalf of the company and I told him that while it wasn't his fault at all, the company needs to get their you know what together. This is beyond ridiculous. I'm blocking out times for people to come over, moving things around, planning on showers (yes, planning to take showers in 2017!). He said he would call back Monday

Monday (note, 10 days since water heater stopped working): Chris called in the morning said he's going into the office to check on part. He called back a little later to say it was in (now, not to be a skeptic--but I will be--how does a part magically appear Monday morning when nobody could find it over the weekend? Unless they're getting 10 AM delivery on Monday, there's no chance that thing arrived on Monday. Especially because he called me before 10 to let me know he'll be at my house in an hour. Sounds shady). Anyway, to his credit again, Chris was over in a jiffy, got the burner fixed in 15 min and I had a hot shower an hour later.

So, kudos to Chris. Everyone else needs to be sat down and yelled at. This is complete nonsense. 10 days to fix a water heater part. Oh yeah, even though the part was under warranty, they were going to charge me $680 for the install. You know, something that took 15 min. Magically, Chris was able to knock it down to $380. I'm not sure the economics of this, but as a captive customer, they could basically charge anything even if the service was absolutely horrible.

Look, I like these guys--I think they the techs do a good job, but the company is completely unorganized and when in a pinch, didn't do me good here.

I had made an appointment with your company to do a toilet repair today, May 5th between noon and 4pm.  To my surprise your man was at my door at about 10:30am.  I normally go to bed at 4:am everyday.  This morning I got up at 10am in order to be ready for your man when he arrived.  Matthew Stymest had apparently left a phone message that he was on his way but I was probably sleeping when he called because I never heard the phone ring although when I checked later he had left a message that he would be here shortly.  l couldn't have been more pleased by the service and time it took to make the repair.  I wish I had done this a couple of months ago when the problem first started but because of the stay at home policy in effect I waited until now.
You can be sure that if I ever have a plumbing problem in the future I will call Benjamin Franklin to fix it and will certainly recommend you to my friends.
Thanks for the great service.

Say they're 24 hours.  In fact, showed up the next morning only to do a 10 minute look and tell me they'll start the following day.  Came next day (more than an hour late) to make repairs on the leaking pipe.  Three or four days later I had to call them back (New Year's Eve) because in the process of fixing the original leak, they created another one.  Of course, they couldn't come out that day, so I waited a couple of days.  They came out and repaired.  A few days after that, I discover a slow drip near area of the second repair.  I text the manager.  Never a response or acknowledgement.  I ended up finding a handyman.

Will never utilize them again.

We have a rental unit and the water heater had gone out.  The tenants were without water for a couple of days and it was New Year's Eve.  Benjamin Franklin was the only company who could come out and replace the water heater the same day.  Otherwise, the tenants would have been without water for three more days.  They came out the same day and replaced the water heater and saved the day!

We did have a small issue with the installation.  Fortunately, when I called them, they had someone out to the house within an hour and fixed the installation quickly!

Thank you Bob and Pete for your help!

A big shoutout to James Kim at Ben Franklin Plumbing.  Last year we had a sewer pipe failure and he took care of all the details including calls to a restoration company for clean-up prior to replacing the pipe and  also in contacting the city for permits and inspection.
Again this week he helped with diagnosing a clogged sewer pipe on the city side and contacted city services to remove an obstruction.
I feel James really goes above and beyond and makes sure to communicate precisely what the problem is and how it is being solved.  Thanks again James for the great work and great customer service.

I highly recommend Benjamin Franklin Plumbers for your plumbing emergencies and work. Danny T. was the plumber who came to our aid and he was not only professional but also super helpful. Benjamin Franklin and Danny T promptly responded to our call about a leak. Danny contacted me right away about his assessment and sent a same-day quote. Once we approved the work, he quickly and successfully completed the work. However, he also let us know that the leak had caused damage that we would need to have repaired and he recommended that I reach out to Pablo at Top Down Restoration to get the process started. Danny T's help with the referral helped us to resolve a pretty thorny challenge to a successful conclusion. Called them for leaked shower spout, and quoted us $1850 to repair the entire shower plumbing.

Naturally I requested a second opinion from another plumbing service. Turns out the previous plumber broke certain components causing the entire shower plumbing has to be replaced. I cannot tell about their intention, but it is not a good thing regardless.

I called them yesterday, 6/24/19 because I thought I was having problems with the Purronics Water Treatment System they had installed 2 years ago.  It was running everyday and using potassium like crazy.  Mathew Stymest came out and figured out that the water treatment system was OK but the water line between the meter and house was leaking which was faking out the water treatment system.  He also found that we had a bad flapper in the hallway bath.  He will order the replacement flapper for us.  Mathew did a really great job.  They will always get a call from me whenever I need a plumbing service.

I had Manuel come out today and repair a toilet that would not stop running which resulted in a super high water bill. He was helpful in making me aware of the online coupon. Additionally, when I made the appointment, the customer service representative on the phone reminded me to send a copy of the work invoice to the water company and request a reduction in my bill. Although I had to reschedule one time because of a no show, everybody I spoke with was very helpful and pleasant. As plumbing companies are concerned, this was my best customer experience ever. I would recommend this company and will use their services again.

Great experience. I contacted Benjamin Franklin Plumbing about installing low-flow toilets and repairing several other bathroom fixtures. Danny came out to evaluate and give an estimate. He took a thorough look at all the plumbing, offered options for upgrades, and pointed out additional areas that could be repaired before they caused problems. The estimate presented each item separately so we could decide which portions to go ahead with, and there were discounts included since it was a large job.

On the work day, Danny and Edgar arrived promptly and got down to business. Danny stayed late to deal with a couple of unexpected trouble spots. He returned the next day to finish up work that needed additional parts, and he really went above and beyond to find a solution for a sink with non-standard hardware. Danny didn't collect any payment until the job was complete. There were no hidden charges, and the cost matched the estimate.

I will definitely call Ben Franklin again next time I need plumbing work!

After taking a look he gave me a quote for repair that was well over double what every other company quoted .i mentioned this fact and he dropped the estimate price by 400.00 but where still 2400.00 more then 3 other company's I got quotes from .  I was shocked needless to say . I declined there service and went with another company ,

If you need a plumber and plumbing company that you can trust and that can help you out with any plumbing issues, please contact Benjamin Franklin Plumbers and request Danny T.

Hector came out to do their annual inspection of our water heater, as part of our membership.  He found the water pressure was too high leading into the home, which could cause leaks throughout the house.  A drainage pipe under the house was sagging and leaking.  He returned the following day and replaced a pressure valve and a 10 foot section where the pipe was sagging.  He found a second pressure valve that needed replacing and took care of it, at no charge.  Hector and his partner were knowledgeable, efficient and very professional.  I appreciated all they did.

Manuel was amazing!  He installed two new toilet bowls and disposable!  He was very professional and ensured that they were in working conditions after completion.  He also changed a pipe that was very old outside of our home.  Manuel also went above and beyond by helping us cover the back of the fridge with a duck-tape in which we think the mice are hiding!!!  We are very pleased with his performance.  Thank you, Benjamin Franklin!!!

We had a major break between our meter and gate valve to our home. They waived the estimate fee and had a field supervisor (Matthew) here within 2 hours. Their crew was here the next morning and did an exceptional job. They carefully trenched and removed landscaping to pits to save our plants. Our home is 52 years old so we needed to upgrade elements. Even the supervisor inspector (who climbed under our house) said they did an outstanding job. They may be a bit more expensive than other companies, however they have the talent and expertise to complete the job quickly and at top quality. Thanks to the entire crew, especially Pablo!

I called Benjamin Franklin Plumbing to come and look at a leaky bathtub plumbing problem in a condo that I rent.  The leak was damaging the downstairs neighbors unit.  As such the ceiling was opened up exposing access to the pipes that were leaking.

Plumber (Matt) after talking with boss (Bob) on phone told me the job would be $1850.00 to replace  bath tub waste overflow and ptrap.  When asked why so much, he replied it woudl be a 2 person job, and take half a day.  Since it was a 2 person job, they wouldn't be able to do it until 2 days later.

I got a quote for $350.00 over the phone later from another pumber based on a single photo of the pipes.  I had him also replace the downspout on the tub for a total of $425.  The complete job was done in 3 hours by a single plumber.

Update:
The Manager (Bob) at Benjamin Franklin Plumbing called and appologized profusely after reading my review here.  He offered to make it up to me by giving me a $300.00 credit towards my next job.  As luck would have it, my kitchen sink was backed up next day.  He sent a different plumber to my home, who cleared the leak and replaced all the pumbing underneath with ABS for free.  So I will raise my rating to neutral.  He never asked, implied or hinted that I should make any adjustments to this review, and its been well over a month since this new work was done, and the sink still works great!

I am very unhappy with this company. They put in a tankless hotter heater. They were out numerous times and it still doesn't work right.  They want to do other things to fix a problem that shouldn't occur, and want to charge big bucks. We were on a maintenance plan with them. One of their guys came out yesterday and said we need a new pressure regulator. Because we are on their plan, it would be discounted at $1600. I called a good, local plumber who will do the work for $300.

Called early afternoon about our kitchen sink.  Was able to get an appointment same day, and only a couple hours after I called.  Technician called to let me know he was on the way and would be there about 30 minutes later.

Manuel showed up right on time.  I explained the issue we were having, and he asked to see all the rest of the sinks first to make sure it was nothing more than the kitchen sink.  Within 20 minutes he had trouble-shot the problem and fixed it.

It was a great relief to have the problem fixed the same day, and really made the rest of the weekend just that much less stressful.

Ridiculous pricing. More than twice than what others will charge. A simple kitchen sink faucet installation was quoted at $386. Others charge in range of $140-$175. They will insist on a free estimate at home but it's a waste of time.!

Our new toilet decided not to flush very well so we called BF and Raymond came out and snaked it and adjusted screws on the seat so it was more stable.  We hadn't asked him to do that.  Went to pay him and he said we didn't owe anything, not even for coming out.  It was under warranty!   Another great  experience.  Thank you Ray!

Stay away and do not use this business.
We called them to fix our leaking water heater at 10:30 a.m. They did come within the hour and were courteous. They did get the job done before the sun set at 5:00 p.m.
They will fleece you and hence any business that does this loses a consumers trust. They charged over $6500 for a job and heater that cost $3500. When we researched and called them while they had gone to get their supplies to get the job done, their response was cryptic and dishonest fooling the customer. Yes, we have no knowledge on this stuff, thus we reply on the experts but this company only aims to over charge and make money in an emergency. Don't get me wrong, businesses do need to make money but $3500 over what is expected is such bad business. Save yourself the time and look elsewhere. Hear me, do not use this business unless you have extra $$ to pay more than 50% over what other reputable businesses would charge.

Almost. They almost did a job. Except they didn't because they screwed up. They only sent 1 guy to do a water heater replacement and he said he needs to come back tomorrow with 2 guys. He then tried to sell me one of their water heaters since theirs have a warranty. This is after i had gone over the install with their dispatch team (pick up the replacement, that it was 75 gallons (big), on a water recirculation system, install the new one, haul the old one back to supplier for warranty replacement). The dispatcher said she put all those details on the work order or ticket.

The plumber arrived during the 4 hour window as committed, and while explaining all the reasons he could do the job, also implied he didn't have the solid pipe (copper pipe? Seriously, you are a plumber and you don't have pipe?!). I think they just didn't want to do the job because it's more than a basic install. Then they quoted my $1300+ for the install. Wow, just wow. No respect for their customers time, just going after easy jobs and charging very high rates.

They don't read their own notes. The sales pitch and warranty pressure to buy their heater was unprofessional. Didn't come prepared. Not a business I want to support.

I'm so frustrated since we have now wasted another day due to these guys, without hot water, now going on 7 days. I have a sick kid (stomach flu) and a week old pile of soiled laundry that needes hot water and bleach. This is rediculous.

I called Almaden Valley Plumbing, Mikes team has done work for us before, he's very reliable. Hopefully this nightmare will end in the morning.

update (later that same day). I got an immediate call from Ben Franklin's Operations Manager and he tried to correct things but still was unable to get the water heater replaced today. I'm still out hot water for another day but at least they care to call personally and say sorry and try (+1 star back for that effort). It's not fun or easy to face an angry customer. These guys do seem to value their ratings, and want to make things better. Hopefully my experience was a fluke.

My main issue with the company is that they are not transparent with their invoice. I asked for a cost breakdown (labor, part, warranty) twice and they promised to provide it but never actually did. I suspected something is not right with the pricing when I asked BFP in addition to work they did to replace the old flapper and I was quoted $197. To be clear the cost of the flapper is $4-$12 and it takes 2-3 minutes to replace. Eventually, I did it myself but the question still remains, what the $197 charge entails? I gave BFP an opportunity to clear this issue before posting this review but they never got back to me.

The extremely reliable, fair and conscientious Ben Franklin has always been there for us. Most recently we called them out to our Santa Cruz/Los Gatos Mountains home for a number of different, but related plumbing issues. Matt and Aris were quick to arrive, spend the necessary time to consider options. They even took the time and effort to call out Dry Force (Water Removal Specialists) to scout out a potentially bank breaking plumbing issue that might have proved to include foundation and carpentry issues. Thankfully, the all clear was called (at no expense to us!) and Matt prepared a scope of work to be done pending further investigation.
Ben Franklin plumber Frank Leon came at the appointed hour and after a thorough review of the issues and attempts to alleviate them using his many years of experience he resolve all of the plumbing issues without having to replace any fixtures, saving us almost a thousand dollars. They could have taken the other path and gone ahead and perform all of the replacements, but the honesty of this business would not allow them to do so. They should steal Abe Lincoln's thunder and be known as Honest Ben Franklin! We will always turn to Ben first for any plumbing needs.

Scheduled an appoint with these guys, they show up on time, Look at my issue tell me they can fix it, but had to run to another job and cant fix my leaks until Monday .... this is on a Tuesday .... REALLY !!!! you couldnt fix the issue while you are here, what the point of coming out to tell me this... in the meantime, cant use my kitchen sink, Some warehouse on wheels you have ..... maybe i can call back to schedule a time for you to come back and see the work that the other plumber does to fix this , while he was here ..... Maybe your up front approach should be to say that you have someone look at the issue and schedule a better time for you to fix this....

I recently did repiping with this company, there are both good and bad experience.

Plumber named Matt came to provide estimate, all stars for this guy. No nonsense and no over selling, gave a neat and quick estimate for repipe. Never tried to upsell anything. While repiping is in progress, I decided to install water softener, again gave me good offer and did not try to over sell.

However plumber who came to do repiping, tried all sorts of tricks to over sell. First he tried to convince me to change pipe from street to home, then he tried to sell me higher priced water softener than needed. Later he was pretty rude to fulfill work negotiated and contracted on paper.

But over all I am happy with this company and their work and recommend them.
At the same time if you are going with this company, ask for Matt to come and provide estimate and coordinate work, do not fall for over selling tricks by other plumbers.

Called and made an appointment; I was promised  that a plumber would come to our house during 3-hour window between 2-5pm. The lady/dispatcher mentioned that the plumber would call me once he was on the way from previous assignment. This was an emergency situation for us as PG&E cut off gas supply until the problem is fixed (and they had to come back again to turn it back on), so I really did not want to postpone this until next day. I was anxious enough to call 4:30pm to make sure that our appointment was still on. I was told that the plumber was wrapping up and would start driving to our place shortly. Unfortunately 10 minutes after 5pm I received a call explaining that the plumber was not able to make it and asked if I wanted to reschedule to 10am next morning. Spending the night and next morning without hot water and gas was not an option for us. I had to call another plumber and he was able to come later tonight at 8pm and fixed the problem within 30 minutes. PG&E came 9:30 and 10pm we were back online.
Extra star is for offering $100 credit toward my potential bill (although I do not know how much they would charge). I know small business struggles, but if it is not a one-man band company, there is always a better way to co-ordinate and schedule resources. Hope this review will give such incentive.

My rental property had plumbing issue basically around the entire house.
It's an old house and things were not installed correctly and hence the back flow in the kitchen between tenants.  I was very impressed with the level of knowledge and professionalism Danny demonstrated as he was trying to explain his diagnoses to me over the phone.  Going through the options of the pros and cons with cost associated, I understood exactly Danny's suggestion and process to get the work done for long term success.
I never got to meet Danny and Brian in person (as I was traveling for work) but they were truly explaining and guiding me through the process with patience and more importantly honesty.  They were very punctual the day of scheduled work, very thorough, and their quality of work was excellent! My tenant and assistant property manager were present that day and were very pleased with their friendly service.  This goes without saying how very SATISFIED I am with Danny and Brian as they provided the work with integrity and excellent end result.  I recommend Benjamin Franklin Plumbing, but more importantly Danny and Brian if you want the job done right and timely to anyone without reservation!

Unfortunately, last weekend we arrived home from a great train ride in Felton only to find our toilets/ pluming backed up! It doesn't get much worse than seeing things floating in your bathtub that shouldn't be there!! We called 6 companies and no one would come! Our 7th company was Ben Franklin and although they couldn't come that night, they promised to be at our house by 8am and they were!! Daniel arrived to save the day!  He was friendly, professional and thorough. He resolved our immediate issue  and explained 2 options for a longer term fix. We were very please with his service.
Fast forward 8 days... our toilets are backed up AGAIN!! Super frustrated, we call Ben Franklin, tell them the toilets are once again clogged and it's only been 8 days! They inform us that they will send someone for $149! This is why they get 4 stars and not 5. We feel that since it had only been 8 days they should have dispatched someone that night no charge.
This morning they sent Javier C. To perform one of the options Daniel suggested. Javier C. Was excellent! He explained in detail, they issue we're experiencing. Like Daniel, he was extremely professional, friendly, neat, and efficient! My husband and I feel Ben Franklin is luck to have such outstanding employees!
To Ben Franklins credit, they did subtract the cost of our service last weekend from the cost of the repair today, thank you.

I'm actually shocked at the lack of good reviews for this company. We had a sewage clean out pipe installed after another company put in one without permit to fix a stoppage. The previous company didn't use the proper pipe, connecting bands or irrigation box AND we were getting raw sewage and mud leaking into our front yard and bathroom shower. After dealing with that nightmare for a week Ben Franklin was a dream. They were in and out in a day and we passed inspection no problem. I can't speak about pricing because I do feel you get what you pay for. We paid for quality, warranty backed work and I'm satisfied.

They are way over pricing on their estimate - $2950 for a job costed $300 by another plumbing company.

I called Sunday night for an emergency service due to a water line leak outside the house. The lady who answered the phone was very polite and told me that someone will call me that night or the next day. I tried them again a few hours later after not hearing anything back. The same lady, again very polite, told me that their dispatcher has left that afternoon and she didn't know that. She apologized and promised to give me $150 credit if I stick with them for a service next morning around 10 am. I was impressed with the curtesy so I choose to give them a shot next morning. They said that a dispatcher would call me 30 minutes before the technician's arrival. I waited until 9:40 am to call them again since no one called me. I was told that the person is on the way and she doesn't know why I didn't get a call. I went over to the house but no one showed up until 11 am. The technician, Matt, also the field supervisor, assessed the issue and gave me a quote of $2950, a whole day job and can only be done two days later. He described the problem as a big job - take out the bushes in front of the leak (they are not responsible for it), dig up the line under ground (they don't know how complicated it might be until after but assumes that the whole line needs to be replaced), having to work around the potential irritating line nearby, etc. After taking to his manager in the phone, they said that someone can work on it tomorrow but the price will be by the job and not charge me more if it takes more than 6 hours. I decided to get a second opinion. I am very glad that I did. EJ Plumbing quickly got into action, identified the issue, fixed it in less than one hour and only charged $300 for the job. They also dug out the bushes around the leak and put them back to where they were. After the repair, it is like nothing happened.

UPDATE 2: After continued problems with my shower installation, I called Bob to request a rebuild of the leaky shower walls.  Bob kept his promise to make sure the job was done correctly once and for all.  He sent service manager John W. and Tim to complete the rebuild.  John W. did an excellent job diagnosing and fixing the problem. He and his team came out right away and took their time to make sure the job was done correctly.

The most important factor for me when hiring someone for a job is to have confidence that the company will stand behind their work.  And although I got stuck with a less than capable project manager for the original installation, Bob made sure he did whatever it took to make it right and to his customers satisfaction. Great job guys, thank you!

UPDATE: thanks to Bob and Ryan for fixing the problems from this job.  They were very regretful about the problems and came out quickly to fix everything, and even did a couple extra upgrades at no charge. They made things right, and I would certainly use them again for future work.

I recently hired Ben Franklin plumbing as part of a bathroom remodeling project.  I was looking forward to working with them after getting a recommendation from a friend and also seeing the mostly positive reviews on Yelp.  Unfortunately the overall experience was not a good one and I cannot recommend them to others.  My 'project manager' was Peter G. who at least on the surface seemed capable enough but did nothing to remedy the problems during or after the project. Perhaps I just got the wrong plumber because there are a lot of positive reviews regarding other employees.

The good: they were fast.  They came right out for an estimate, started the job promptly and stayed more or less on schedule during the project.  I'll give them one star for this and one star for doing a decent job on the major project which was to install new drain lines and a new shower.  That part of the job went well and I haven't had any problems since the install.

The bad: part of the job was to install a new washer and dryer. When he installed the washer he neglected to remove the shipping bolts, as stated clearly on the installation instructions.  I was ignored when I asked him what happened with that.  So I removed the bolts myself and am hoping no major permanent damage was done to the washer.  The washer and dryer stand was incorrectly installed as well, another job I had to fix myself.  While trying to install a new bathroom exhaust fan, he caused a short in the wiring, thus destroying the fan.  Worse yet he blamed my electrician who was there at the time and offered to help.  Then he told me it was a 'customer supplied' fan so he wasn't responsible for breaking it.  The new shower door he installed leaks but again not his problem, it's the shower door's fault. Had to ask him 3 times to fix the sink drain which was installed incorrectly and leaked.  Finally, he incorrectly installed an attic fan and once again blamed the fan.  He refused to come fix that as well.  On top of all of this because it was the holidays, I gave him a nice gratuity despite all the problems, hoping that at the very least he would come and follow up on any problems. Didn't even get so much as a thank you from him.

This was a $10k job which I realize is cheaper than hiring a real professional to do it right and I take some of the blame for this because I wanted the job done quickly.  Should also mention that I was charged an extra $500 during the project for a new shower valve.  You would think that would have been part of the estimate and not some BS add on charge especially when it was something that had to be done right in the middle of the project. And for $10k you'd think I'd get some sort of follow up from management to get my feedback on the project.  Nothing but a comment card in the mail with room enough for a sentence of feedback. The whole thing just felt really amateurish and next time I will hire a professional contractor for any job this involved.

Kevin fixed warped water pipes thruout the house, especially the waterheater's. The house needs repiping, but I opted for an immediate fix, given the cost of an entire repiping. Ben Franklin Plumbing is quite pricey, but I decided to have Kevin do the small job now, given the kind of emergency of the situation.  I really bought his personality, his ability to explain the problem, give me options, and just generally be extremely knowledgable and efficient. When it is time for repiping, I feel more comfortable getting bids.  This was fine for now.

Javier from Ben Franklin plumping responded to my house for a leak under my kitchen sink.  Ended up being a gasket in my disposal was put on wrong and causing the leak...!  He took it apart and put it back right!  But the best part was he didn't charge me anything!!!  When does that ever happen?!?!?  I was over the moon and so very grateful.  That never happens and I won't forget his kindness!  I'm forever a Ben Franklin happy happy customer!

(Ray) was within the three-hour range the dispatch gave for a 6-9pm (after hours) call due to a severely leaking hot water heater in our garage.  The customer service was top notch.  Ray went to great lengths to ensure customer satisfaction.  He came back the next morning and stayed all day, made sure everything was up to snuff, and the price didn't change from the quote. He even secured a wobbly toilet in our bathroom, gratis.  They also seem to have a good full-service warranty/maintenance program.  I have no idea how the costs compare - didn't bother - nor do I know how Ray compares with the rest of his team, but B.F. is worth contacting for its/Ray's service, alone. 5.1 stars.

Yeah, I don't know about Plumbing Guys in Oakland...We live in Alameda and my uncle-who owns the home - and is elderly and a little disoriented at times- talked with the guy that came out to assess the plugged up kitchen drain. He told him that the pipes that go out to the street were old and in bad shape- and the job would cost 2800.00 bucks to remedy the problem. He offered to snake the drain but warned us that if he broke the pipes under the sink- it would not be his fault
WTH?
This seemed a little fishy to say the least. We had another plumber come out this morning from BEN FRANKLIN PLUMBING- and they said the 2800 dollar estimate was preposterous- and they could fix the problem for less than 400 bucks. The plumber, Michael, dressed in a nice clean jacket with the company logo- was professional, courteous and kind. The job was done in a half hour! They gave us a senior discount - and the bill was 365 bucks! Be careful when you call plumbers in to fix a job. They know that the home owner needs to have it fixed and can prey on them with unnecessary work. Ben Franklin saved my uncle over 2400 bucks. Bravo!!

Ray, Jerry, and Pedro (and others) did an amazing job.  They replaced our collapsed sewer lateral, which was a particularly complex job and had been a real nuisance for us.  Timely, patient, considerate, and effective.  They also put us in touch with Dry Force for restoration/remediation of the sewage leak under the building, which was a great referral.  I always call Benjamin Franklin, and they always get the job done, jobs big and small.

Well, after reading the latest, low ratings of this company. I thought, I would add my two cents. On a Friday, late afternoon, my toilet decided to explode with water everywhere in my bathroom. I managed to stop the exploding water from the old toilet, and called Benjamin Franklin Plumbing. They where the only plumbing company, still answering the telephone, late afternoon on a Friday. Matt came out within the hour, look over my plumbing problems, with this 54 year old toilet, and said you a new toilet, gave me a quote, called the office, and reseved a TOTO Toilet and all the parts needed. Then he said, I'll a plumber out here, at 9:00am Saturday morning. Sure enough, Brian knocked on my door 8:45 am, Saturday morning. Took out the old toilet, replaced it with the new TOTO Drake model toilet. It took him about four hours, due to the age of my bathroom plumbing. I was simple amazed, at Brian's work. I couldn't believe, I was able to get a plumber, so quickly on a Saturday morning. Thank You! Matt, and Brian, as well. Kevin N Reid

I had a guy from Benjamin Franklin give me an estimate for moving water/sewer lines from the garage to the laundry room and for connecting some sewage lines under the house. The guy seemed friendly, said he needs to go in the crawlspace to see what needs to be done. While going down there he broke an air duct and did not even mention it to me. Then he proceeded to ask me what kind of work I do, whether I will live there or rent the place and if I want the work to be high quality or not before slapping me with a pretty steep quote. I did not call them back and had the same work done by a highly reviewed plumber for much less. I felt like these guys just want to rip you off.

Kudos to Ryan C. and Tim for their stellar job.  They replaced 200 feet of outside gas and water supply lines.  This required two days of digging trenches before they could even get to the plumbing part.  Ryan was very professional and kept me informed on progress as the job went on (it took 4 days of work).  He even did some things I was not expecting that were a pleasant surprise.  They also took care of the permit so I did not have to do a thing but pay at the end of the job. Would definitely hire again.

I used Ben Franklin plumbing and had a problem with the installation of a faucet. I dreaded calling to complain.

I called their office & they said they would have someone call me back. Sure, I thought. John called me back a few hours later, listened to my situation & promptly made good on his warranty. John sent someone out to fix the problem and the customer service was beyond my expectation. It's easy to talk the talk and say you stand behind your service but it's really amazing when you talk the talk & walk the walk.  Kudos to John for the customer service & warranty on his work.

Have used Ben Franklin several large and small jobs past 2 years. There were 2 extensive sewer repairs including permits and an outside sump pump embedded in concrete. Danny was knowledgeable and easy to work with on those projects. Recently we had a home inspection, included in their maintenance plan, by Chris Chavez.  He identified  several problems including an important one of which we were unaware. . There was no pressure to perform any of the repairs. He didn't charge for several small repairs and was very patient in explaining and showing what he was doing. This company is a pleasure to work with.

I purchased a new faucet for my bathroom and a garbage disposal for my kitchen when I realized I was unable to install them myself.  I then went on line to find a plumber since I always did my own work when I decided to go with Benjamin Franklin Plumbing of San Jose because of there reputation.  I was not disappointed by my choice.  I was informed of a 4 hour window when they would arrive to do the work.  I was pleasantly surprised when they contacted me that they would be early.  The plumber that arrived was Hector, who was professional, polite and respectful of my home.  He wore shoe covers every time he entered my home and explained all parts of the job and the cost involved.  I agreed and was relieved when the work was completed in a reasonable amount of time.  Hector kept his work area clean and left the areas like he found them.  I did realize that the job was bigger than I expected and was glad I hired a professional plumber to do the job.  Thanks to Hector!

We had a serious plumbing crisis with our only bathroom.  The shower/bathtub were backflowing (ewww!) and apparently the toilet had decided to detach itself.   Our house is over 70 years old and the pipes were galvanized steel.  Matt from Ben Franklin was able to come the same day (Friday), give us an estimate, start the work,  and find the restoration company to evaluate the water damage.  Jose and Alex worked diligently all day Saturday and reattached the necessary pipes so we could use our bathroom/kitchen that evening.  Since I haven't had a plumbing disaster of this scale before, I had a lot questions.  Jose and Alex answered them and cleaned up so I could still host a party the same night.  They finished their work on Monday and it's quite a relief to a functioning bathroom and a kitchen sink that doesn't leak. I am totally impressed with their speedy and clean work.  I haven't gotten the bill yet but it's been an easy, worryfree process.  I'll update as to billing process once it happens.

Called these folks early in the morning for water leak from first floor ceiling apparently coming from upstairs bathroom.  The plumber (ARIS) arrived with-in the time frame that they offered me for afternoon.  He looked at the leak area and told me that he needs more time to figure out whether source of the leak is from bathtub, toilet or bathroom sink faucet.  He was very patient and spent a considerable amount time to find out the source of the water leak. Finally he determined that toilet was the cause of leak. He called his manager (john) and explained the situation and decided to pull out the toilet and reset it. Then he asked me to talk with John to negotiate on pricing.
Very happy with the job done. I will definitely call Benjamin Franklin Plumbing for my future plumbing work.
Highly recommend them for their Reasonably Priced and Great service.

Horrible experience with BF. My plumbing advisor James Kim gave me verbal quote for a re-pipe job. I had also requested a written version of the quote and this is where BF went silent. 3 emails to James Kim were not responded to nor was one to BF responded to. If you have changed your mind and do not want to provide a written quote, is there anyway ANYONE from BF could have responded to the numerous emails to let me know? That would have been fine as I would at least have known. Instead, I can only assume it is BF's policy to continue to ignore someone until they have gone away. Well, that has worked for me. I have gone away. Further, I have so far told 2 different potential customers to not use BF plumbing. Don't worry BF, I'll never bug you again. I'll also never use your company for anything in the future and I will make sure to tell as many people as I can about the inexcusable unprofessional experience I had with your company. I sure wish there were negative stars to post for this company.

I have nothing but high praise for Benjamin Franklin Plumbing and the two technicians, Pete and James, who provided their expert services.  After being cancelled and rescheduled twice by a different plumber who was then unable to do the work, I found BFP on Yelp and could not be happier.  They were able to send the help I needed within 2 days to run a gas line for some work we were having done in the backyard.  Pete worked many hours on the project and got everything done and taken care of with expert precision.  Subsequently, there was a problem with how the landscaper hooked the new gas line into the fire pit, BFP was again out within 2 days and took care of everything.  James properly hooked up the line to the fire pit and then made sure there were no leaks on the line - And, they did not charge me for the second trip.  I could not be happier with their work and would definitely recommend Benjamin Franklin Plumbing.

No matter who you call, please do not call them. I had a simple leaky kitchen faucet. I called them. They promised to send a technician next day. Came the next day, a lady called me up and said that the plumber was caught up in some other work and that he would not be able to make it. I was promised a discount of $50 for rescheduling. The next day the plumber turns up. He takes a look at the faucet and says that the cartridge is not working and that it need to be replaced. He puts in a estimate of 276, but at the same time he did not offer me any guarantee on whether the leak would be taken care of. He absolutely did not have any idea of what was going on. To me it looked kind of strange that somebody would be charging that high for a leaky faucet and on even not offer any guarantee the quality. I chose not to have them do the work. Instead I called my handyman who usually take care of many little things here and there. He came in, opened the faucet and tightened the top and that took care of the leak. He said there was some loose things on the top which was causing the leak. He did not charge any money since I have called him on several other bigger jobs. So long story short, stay away from these guys...

I am a believer of Diamond Certified and have used them to select all types of service professionals for years and years. In the past I used Cal Coast Plumbing which was bought by Bonney Plumbing about 3 years ago. On July 4th, I returned from a trip and found the valve to the water main coming into my house leaking. I called Bonney Plumbing the next day, and was told they had decided to pull back from providing services in the Bay Area, and sold their business to Benjamin Franklin Plumbing and gave me their number. I called Benjamin Franklin Plumbing, and got an appointment the next afternoon. Chris came out. And was he great! I give Chris a 5 Star, you'll see why. He looked at the problem, and gave me a quote right then and there, which I accepted. He then started working on it. It required him to reconstruct the galvanized pipe to copper pipe, which my house has, from the ground coming up to the side of the house, solder in all the new line and a new valve, and then fashion a connection of copper piping and ball stop valve to the water line going to my front and backyard sprinkler systems. Chris spent 4 1/2 hours that afternoon, and almost completed it except for the sprinkler system line. He capped that, and said he'd come back the next morning. I had to be away that morning, but Chris came back, notified me he was at the house, and in about another hour finished all repairs. Chris texted me he had completed the work, as well, sending me two pictures of the finished copper line and new valves. So, that's why Chris gets 5 Stars. I am a Fan of Benjamin Franklin Plumbing with response and employees like Chris.

Had a wonderful experience with Benjamin Franklin Plumbing - what started with a clogged shower ended up being a whole house re-pipe. We knew it was coming so we bit the bullet and went for it. It's a costly endeavor, however the Benjamin Franklin Plumbing team made it a pleasant experience. Working with Cary, from Customer Service, to set up financing, getting clear communication from Adam, the Dispatcher, to two wonderful non-stereotypical plumbers, Pete and Armando. Both guys are very talented at what they do. They were punctual, extremely courteous, thoughtful and always willing to stop their work to explain what they were doing, when I asked. The entire experience went smooth. Pete, who took the lead on the job, made sure I knew what their plans were for the day, what I could expect at the end of the day, and always ensured things were cleaned up before he left. I would definitely recommend this team for plumbing needs.

I have used Benjamin Frankiln plumbing several times, & have not been disappointed. I was able to get very timely appointments and the technicians have been very friendly, courteous & professional.  Danny Tehrani was the latest to come to my rescue and (other that the fact that I had to call a plumber in the first place) I was happy with service. We had a gas leak/odor at the house.  Ben Franklin was available the next day.  Frank L called before arriving and was early!  He spent 2 hours going through all of the testing and inspection.  After isolating the problem to the gas dryer, problem solved.  Frank also advised on a few other issues at the house where some proactive maintenance could prevent major damage.  I appreciated his attention to detail.  Good company!

Terrible - this is a zero stars rating.  Charged extra to come 1 hour sooner, but then didn't come sooner.  Guy showed up, tried to upsell me on $1000 of unnecessary crap to simply root out my sewer line, then he had the gaul to get angry and obnoxious about my refusal to pay so much money for extra unnecessary stuff.  All prior plumbers had charged about $150 to root the sewer line.  Definitely a non-starter, don't use them until they change the business practice.

The plumbers are nice, knowledgeable and professional.  Mike P. is great.  The prices are very high.  You can get the same work done for much cheaper with other plumbers.  I have no complaints about the service, everything was done perfectly, but I won't use them again simply because I can't afford to pay 3x's a much for the same work.
