Bell Plumbing is absolutely awesome. If I could give more stars, I would.
I've had a leaking shower drain for years now and I finally decided to fix it.
I put out a quote and Leilani from Bell Plumbing reached out to me not too long after. They were able to send out one of their plumbers, Juan R., for a free estimate.

Juan was very professional and friendly. He was able to provide me an estimate, which was almost $1,000 less than a competitor. Needless to say, I decided to go with Juan and Bell Plumbing. We set up the schedule a few days after the estimate.

Juan and his team returned on the day of the appointment--on time and ready to go. Because of the drain location, Juan had another senior plumber, Freddy, to overlook the process. Things could not have gone any smoother--the pipes were replaced and the new drain was tested for leaks multiple times. The work was done flawlessly. Moreover, they even helped clean up any small debris left from the work--I think my area was cleaner after they left!

Juan and his team is the epitome of a successful business--the friendliness and courtesy to a customer, their knowledge and mastery of their profession, and pricing. Juan even found a few extra bills stuck together while counting my payment. It's difficult to find honest people these days, but Juan and everyone at Bell Pluming is the best.

I've used Bell Plumbing several times over the years and they are always quick to respond and provide wonderful service. We first hired them to install our tankless water heater when we purchased our home several years ago after comparing several plumbers in the area. They also offered great suggestions on repairs needed throughout, came through with referrals for larger jobs, and provided honest advice and feedback to our plumbing questions. Recently, Juan came out for regular maintenance of our tankless water heater.

We noticed some dripping from a toilet pipe a few days ago. With no luck fixing it on our own, I called today and they were able to send Jakob and Freddy out the same day to diagnose and fix the problem. They showed up with their own booties and were courteous and quick to provide a solution. I've recommended Bell Plumbing to others many times over the years and every time they come out, I'm continually impressed with the service each one of their technicians provides.

I just bought a new house, and my kitchen drain was apparently badly clogged, which led to draining into my laundry sink causing a very bad odor. They cleared the blockage and even ran a camera to show that I'm actually in need of a replacement.

Jakob and Bell Plumbing are phenomenal! World class service! We called at 5:30pm and needed a new water heater after another company unsuccessfully tried to repair our old one. Jakob showed up at 6:00pm and installed a new one. Not only was he professional but he took the time to educate us about the new water heater. I could not recommend Jakob and Bell Plumbing more highly! They will be our go to for all our plumbing needs in the future. They should be yours too. We have dealt with lots you would be hard pressed to find anyone better!

If I could give Bell Plumbing 6 stars, I would. I wholeheartedly recommend them.

To cut a long story short - they spent three days with me, troubleshooting what ultimately turned out to be a PG&E issue. They traced the problem from the water heater they had installed, to my (ancient) earthquake gas valve, and then to the gas meter, which was the actual problem. Bell's excellent crew members, Jakob and Chris, made multiple visits, attempting various solutions to assist me. Greg was on the phone with me on Sunday to help restore the gas supply. Throughout the entire ordeal, Bell maintained professionalism, responsiveness, and courtesy.

And here's the best part. After dedicating all this time to a PG&E problem, Greg simply said, What an adventure! I am just glad you have the gas back on. What an awesome guy! Bell has something great going on.

From the ease of their website to book a consult, their super communicative and polite dispatch, to the actual rockstar of a technician, Jakob, I was super impressed with Bell Plumbing. For whatever reason they would not take my job. In the end my brother-in-law set up the compact washer. All it required was the correct adapter. The adapter included with the washer did not fit my kitchen sink faucet. He located the correct adapter at Ace Hardware.

I called Bell plumbing to fix the blockage in the pipe which causes sewage to come out in the bathtub. The assigned technician Jakob arrived later and did an initial inspection. After entering the crawlspace and seeing the leaking and wet pipe, he concludes the we have a blockage in the pipe underneath the downstair bathroom.

For the plumbing work, he said he will use a camera to locate the blockage and remove all things blocking there. The whole project will take SEVERAL hours. He then pulled an estimation from his ipad, and will charge me $508. My mental model towards SEVERAL hours is at least more than 2 hours

The work is done in a positive way: Jakob removed the blockage and also mentioned the toilet flange leaking and root intrusion I need to address separately.

The low rating I leave there is due to reasons below
- The actual work takes no more than one and half hour, which is less than the estimation. Hence I deem $508 is an over-charge for 1.5 hr blockage removal work.
- Jakob showed me the video from the camera, but did not send them to me. The video is useful to me to address the flange leaking and root intrusion issue in the future. Next day I called in to request the video, but still have not received it.

2022/10/21 updates:
The owner of Bell plumbing contacted me to get more details and my ask. With honest communication, he agrees to send the camera video to me as well as refunding $100 to offset the original charge. Now both the service and the charge are green light, and I am happy to upgrade my rating.

After almost 9 years since I've had my kitchen clean-out line snaked and cleared, I began to notice that the water in the kitchen sink was draining slowly. Apparently, I had a blockage in the line. I called Bell Plumbing in the morning and was able to get an appointment the same day.

When our technician Freddy arrived, he was very professional and thoughtful. He came prepared with booties so that he can keep the house clean.

As Freddy was working to clear the line, he informed me that the blockage in the line was much worse than anticipated. He tried multiple times with various equipments to clear the line. Throughout the appointment, Freddy kept me informed of the progress and maintained a positive attitude. Because of the severity of the blockage, both Freddy and Greg with their tireless effort and persistence, they were finally able to clear the blockage.

Freddy was wonderful to work with. He never gave up on the beast of a blockage. He was determined to clear the blockage for me so that I can use my kitchen sink again. Freddy went above and beyond in his work and in his customer service.

From the moment I called the office, until the time the job was finished, I've had nothing but exceptional service. They are very responsive, and I would definitely use them again for any future plumbing needs.

I highly recommend Bell Plumbing, and I am happy to support a local family owned and operated business.

Our landlord hired Bell Plumbing to replace a very old and outdated electric water heater. Jacob did the initial visit to check and workout an estimate. He was honest and very thorough with answering questions. Leilani called and provided the details of when the job can be done and finalized schedule. Jacob and Freddy arrived perfectly on time of the scheduled date and these guys are on the top of their game. They were very courteous of our house and were prepared with boot covers, drop cloth and cleaning up as they go. The work these guys do is very thorough and precise. Updating with the latest, per the owner's comment. After I made my complaint known, Bell did refund my $175 trip fee. They also sent me a nice holiday gift basket seeking my forgiveness, which was a nice gesture.

Still, I think it stands that I leave this review to make known the frustrations I have with being asked to pay $3,000 to replace a shower that was fixed on first sight by another plumber with a $1 screw.

I just moved to our new place and was super excited. Except one thing. Our shower/bathtub would run water out of both spouts regardless if it was turned on shower or bathtub. I had heard that bell plumbing was super efficient from several clients and since I was now living in a home I needed to find a reliable plumber. So I called Bell plumbing and Freddy arrived a few minutes prior to our designated appointment time slot which was great no waiting. We searched for a plumber to come out and check if we had a leak in our restroom. I was told that the bolts inside our toilet tank was rusted. what a nightmare
the price for the connection was many $$$$$ more than they said, broke the water main, ran wrong ditches, all in all had no clue what they were doing. Denied damaging the neighbors house and lots of other bad things. A true nightmare.
Since the owner responded and said that what I wrote is untrue I have posted pictures of:
1-broken water main- the one where the water company working at night time
2-my neighbor's window broken -which they denied breaking, it must just happen to break when they were using heavy equipment in front of their house
3-their equipment on the road- and all the damage
4-other pictures
As I wrote- it was a true nightmare and now months later the road is still not paved and filled with bumps and cracks

Our kitchen faucet was leaking and had to be replaced. I did some research and shopping which included calling Bell Plumbing. I was surprised when they told me they first come to your house and do a free estimate. This really makes it nice because you can get an estimate before you make a decision to use them. I decided to have them do the work and they have a great selection of faucets at their warehouse in San Carlos which is close to my house. One person went back to the warehouse to get the faucet while the other person took out the old faucet. The work was done quickly and efficiently. It was such a pleasant experience - no wondering around a store looking for a clerk.

Gert was amazing. I contacted contractors to install a shutoff valve on yelp. I got 20 plus responses. One was from Bell Plumbing. Pricing was a bit confusing. 3 companies gave 3 diffrent pricing. For some reason me and my wife trusted Gert based on his explanation and his plan of action how he's gonna do it.

I did not respond to a higher priced bid, nor a lower price than Bell's. I can tell the lower bid was for a Micky Mous job. And the higher was exaggerated explaning that 3 year guarantee played a role in the price.

In any case, the job was completed today exactly as he told us he would. I am impressed and will be calling Bell's and ask for Gert Visser every time I need a plumbing job. Thank you Gert, you make Bell's plumbing look good with your integrity, professionalism, and, basically, excellent workmanship. I have a new friend in the plumbing bussiness: excellent customer service that deserves a 10 stars.

It's never a good thing when you put in the wash and water comes spraying down from your kitchen light! Bell Plumbing to the rescue! The personable and knowledgeable Leilani asked all the right questions and was able to get us on the schedule for later the same day. We received a text before our technician, Jakob Droz, arrived, showing his picture and giving a short bio. What a great feature to make us feel comfortable. Jakob was polite, efficient and thorough. He checked the pipe from the 2nd floor all the way down to where it feeds into the sewer line, including crawling under the house. He got behind the washer and stayed to be sure the pipe was cleared and while he did so, he explained how grateful he was to work for Bell Plumbing and what an awesome business it was to work for. He appreciates the ethics of the company and how close-knit everyone who works there is. We used Bell Plumbing to install a water line to our refrigerator. They used a saddle valve which I later learned is a terrible choice. A year later when I asked them to come back to fix it they continued to maintain that this was an acceptable, working solution. Several months ago, as expected, it stopped working and started to leak. Thankfully I found a quality plumber to rip it out and create a quality connection that does not leak and works.

Goggle search saddle valve and see that this is an unacceptable solution. This is for lazy plumbers looking for a quick fix. Then realize this is the quality Bell didn't just give me, but stood by when I asked them to fix it.

I paid $725 for a 30 day warranty and a tech to run a high pressure hose to unclog my kitchen sink and I have to tell you I do not feel very satisfied about the excessive charge, unfortunately company does not provide quote over yelp but instead shows up assesses your issue and charges you by the job type, so you really don't know how they come up
with such a fee.

However at least the tech was friendly, prepared and fast, but unfortunately that will never be enough for me to hire this company ever again. Lesson learned I guess and hence the star count overall experience included your very high unexpected fees,makes a customer feel strong armed.

I have a commercial piece of property in San Mateo. The tenant informed me the sewer was plugged and the toilets were inoperable. Bell Plumbing was called and got us on the list right away. They started today at 915AM and had the job completed by 1115AM. The used a high pressure water device that cleared the line from the building to the sewer. Then, they ran a TV camera through the line and it was totally clean. Excellent job. The men were very knowledgeable, professional, decent employees, polite and cleaned everything up. Excellent job.

It was such a great service! I could not relighting my water heater after the gas was restored. I contacted Bell Plumbing and they called me on Monday morning and quickly sent Jakob to my house. Jakob found out the problem right away and even showed me the trick how to check if the fire was stared because it is almost impossible to see the lighting with bare eyes. Jakob also told me a few things to pay attention after the water heater was restored. The best service ever. Bell Plumbing and their employees truly care about their customers. Gert arrived on time as promised! He was very friendly as well and very professional. Gert was very clean and neat and even wore shoe covers in the house. He clarified the work to be done and promptly fixed the issue. I knew I was in good hands from the start. Gert effortlessly finished the job in under five minutes!

The company is fast and responsive I booked an appointment online the night before and a technician was at my home by 2pm the next day. Text messages were sent throughout the day indicating who would be onsite along with their photo. COVID precautions were communicated prior to the tech arriving. The tech Gert V. I recently had a leak from the water main in front of the garage. Looked on Yelp for plumber and called Bell Plumbing based on their great review. The free quote was easy and the guys were super professional and friendly. The job was done in a day and total cost was same as estimated quote. The guys cleaned everything up and followed up to make sure we were happy with the work.

Because if their great work, we also asked Bell for a quote to replace all the pipes underneath the house due to shower drain being backed up and the pipes were original pipes from the 1950s. Once again great job by the crew. On time and under the estimated cost, we could not be happier.

Gert, along with Juan, installed a descaler onto our tankless, so no more filters needed! With the new larger gas line feed, the hot water now has less fluctuation with the cold h2o and Gert will return to flush out our tank next year!

Ran into a bit of an emergency situation and had no hot water to the house on President's Day. I called a bunch of plumbing companies and it was a challenge getting anyone to come out. Bell answered the call, came out quickly and their technician Juan fixed the problem. Later on we experienced some water pressure issues and they sent him out again and he was able to troubleshoot the problem and fix it right away. They get five stars for their friendly call staff, Juan's expertise and coming out as they promised. I won't hesitate to use them again and recommend Bell to anyone with home plumbing issues.

I had a toilet issue at work and was told to get a plumber in ASAP so I messaged a couple companies on Yelp and Bell plumbing was the first one to get back to me.

One reason why I went with them was because of their free estimate. Anything that cost money needs to get approval first at the office so with their free estimate offer, I was alright to invite them in to check the issue.

A coworker told me on Friday that the lever was no longer working on the toilet and that it didn't flush. Unfortunately, by the time I was told and contacted it was pass 5pm so it became an issue for Monday instead.

Come Monday morning, I called and they were able to send a technician in around 2pm so I jumped at that chance. Got a call a few minutes later and was told the plumber got done early and can come in around 11:30am instead. SCORE. SEND THEM OVER NOW.

What I like most about Bell Plumbing is they send you a photo of your plumber + hobbies so you know who you're expecting. At the office it's not really a concern who comes in or out, but I know if this was a home call then I would feel super safe. Bonus: even got a tracker so you're able to see where they're at at all times.

Our plumber was Dan who was super fast and professional. He assessed the toilet and actually came back and told me nothing was wrong with it. I told him what led me to contacting their company so he went back and did another look around, told me it was a great system, and if anything does happen then I can call them back.

Overall, no damage, no money spent, but I know if I ever have an issue then I'm definitely calling Bell Plumbing ASAP.

By the way, the coworker who cried wolf? Went to him, gave him my stank face, and told him he lied. Haha

They are very responsive, work quickly, and ensure that the job is done properly. I called multiple plumbing companies from Yelp and Bell was the first one to respond. They were also the one to be able to send someone to me the fastest. The others either didn't respond and/or responded too late.

The technician showed up in a very timely manner and I was sent a link with a photo of the tech that's coming and a small bio of him, which I thought was neat. I was also able to track where the technician was and get GPS updates on his location and arrival. The customer service representative I spoke with over the phone was courteous and helpful. These small things matter and I could tell this company one step above others.

The technician showed up and even took off his shoes before entering my house. I didn't tell him at the time, but I appreciate him doing this. He was quick to diagnose my problem and fixed the issue without charge. I was even given the small tool that he used to fix my problem for free!

The technician did not tried to upsell or trick me into fixing anything more than what I needed. He was honest and professional. These attributes are often not found in companies these days.

I will no doubt call this company again for my future repair needs. I will make sure my friends and family does the same.

Thank you, thank you, thank you, Mike!! I was washing my hands in the shared bathroom after my appointment and my diamond ring slipped off my finger and down the drain. A feeling of dred washed over my entire body. Having worked with plumbers in the past I know that it can sometimes takes days for them to come out and help as they are usually slammed or book way in advance. I was supposed to catch a flight later on that day and now I had lost the beautiful ring my husband had given me down a public sink! I had very little hope that I'd see that ring again, but thank God for Yelp and Mike over at Bell Plumbing!!

The experience with Bell Plumbing was awesome from the start. They were the first plumbers I called and as I frantically explained the situation to them the office person who answered my call she calmly asked me to hold while she intercepted a technician on my behalf. She came back on the phone and said she was able to get a hold of them and was sending someone my way. I was in disbelief at how incredibly lucky I was to have called them and get someone on the first try! Mike arrived half an hour later to and saved the day by rescuing my ring and all with a smile on his face. I now truly believe you don't have to wear a cape to be a super hero, coveralls are equally a super hero uniform!

After saving my ring I received a follow up call from their office to check on me and the level of service received today and I can confidently say that I will definitely be using Bell Plumbing for all plumbing needs again and recommend that you call them too!

Bell Plumbing did I great job and I highly recommend them for any plumbing work.
I called them early one week day morning and the immediately sent out a plumber who was courteous and knowledgeable. I had a jammed disposal and a dishwasher that continually over flowed. The plumber quickly and efficiently had the disposal working again. More impressive, our dishwasher had been worked on by several other plumber, none of them fixed the overflow issue. The Bell plumber quickly saw the issue, two hoses had been incorrectly installed. He corrected the problem and we have not had problems with the dishwasher. Again, excellent service.

Very prompt - same day service. Nice quality work. VERY expensive. Charged $200 for less than 10 mins work to disassemble two new pop-up drains and reinstall with plumber's putty on top of $300 x 2 p-traps for a total of $790 for 1.5 hours work. Good but SUPER expensive.

In May of 2019 I signed a contract for Bell Plumbing to trench and install the Gas and sewer lines for our new construction. This work involved trenching from the house out and completely across the street - a major operation. The manager Greg was very familiar with the area having done major sewer work 2 houses away. Bell is extremely fair in pricing, explained all of the options clearly and performed the work fast and professionally. I highly recommend Bell Plumbing for Sewer and Gas trenching from the street to the house in Menlo Park.

I had an estimate from another company that was almost double the estimated price from Bell for the gas line with a one line broken english description of the work - what a joke! In contrast, Bell gave me multiple options and estimates for the sewer and gas with full descriptions of the work needed. Several other contractors simply refused an estimate as they were too busy. In the end I am grateful to Bell Plumbing to squeeze the work in their tight schedule while not taking advantage of us on price.

Gert is a friendly and informative technician. He fixed the slow shower drain and also taught me how to avoid it in the future, what to buy, and some maintenance.

They send you text messages to keep you informed and even a link to see where they are in their travel to your house.

They did cancel the day prior (cost estimations must be done in person). They called me but I was on the train home.

This is absolutely an outrageous estimate ---- $550.00 to replace a shower on/off device ---- I intend to bring this to the attention of BBB, Channel 7, Channel 2 Investigates, NBC News Bay Area Investigative Team ---- $555.00 for 1 hour's work --- this is insane and the public should be aware of your business practices. In addition, I will contact Consumer Affairs, State of California, Sacramento Headquarters.....

If you want a plumber that respects your time and keeps their commitments look elsewhere! They may discount prices...but there's a reason.

As a busy professional and a single dad, my time is very valuable. They set a 4 (!) hour service window for when they'd show up. I had to travel a considerable distance to meet them for the window. Then I waited. And waited. And waited. about 15 mins before the window was set to expire, I get a call from the service tech saying he was going to be about 30 mins late. I was perturbed, but at least he communicated. I waited an 60 mins and he still wasn't there. When I checked in with him about his progress, he was still AT LEAST 30 more mins out. Add this to the 60 plus mins that it would take to get the job I'd contracted them to do done, and I would have then hit the worst traffic the Bay Area has to offer. I called and canceled before I had to wait a single minute more.

I'm sure they will try to defend themselves by saying that their tech communicated that he was going to be late. BUT, when you say you're going to be 30 mins late and your actually 90 mins plus the job time the job would likely take and add that to the 4 hours you've been sitting around waiting for them, it adds up to a big fat slap in the face for your time.

My WHOLE DAY WAS WASTED! Don't waste yours.

I needed urgent help with my aged waterheater; I had concluded replacing would be needed.
I called Bell Plumbing and they were able to help me right away. We set a 2 hour window.....but technician finished another job early. They called to ask if tech could come earlier which was terrific!
Fast forward, technician came, assessed problem and we agreed to replace. Bell could have installed faster than I would be available. Set up installation date and time.
Installation completed quickly without issue. Bell Technician(s) were prompt, thorough and very clean.

Our toilet was blocked today (Wednesday) so I gave them a call in the morning and they came in the afternoon. They even called and offered to come early which was nice.

David Bell came to check, complete, and repair work done by a pro referred by Angi's who left assorted leaks and no hot water in my kitchen sink. Called them to schedule a faucet replacement ($385) and they showed up within 1 hr after calling. Although their going rate was a bit much for me I was desperate and couldn't call for another quote. Plumber that came probably knew that. But what can I do. Business is business. He was professional when I met him. The job took 2 hours tops. He had to come back because he accidentally screwed back the pipes trapping the spray hose in between the pipes under the sink. When I went to use the faucet spray on the sink it was short and jammed. I called the office and they quickly connected me to the plumber and he returned and fixed the issue. Overall the job quality was good and would call again in the future after doing research.

I will update my review once the job reaches 90 days.

This was a fantastic customer service experience, I haven't had that kind of stellar service in years. I submitted an online request late Saturday evening. They actually called me Sunday morning. Who does that? These days you're lucky to even get a call back. They scheduled for Gert, an incredibly knowledgeable and professional tech to come out. He showed up exactly on time, diagnosed the issue, and assured me we could resolve the issue. BTW, it was an issue caused by lousy parts and even worse service by Roto Rooter. The office called me and again scheduled a service call for the next day after Gert got the parts. Again, he was exactly on time! These folks are really good! He fixed the issue and I could not be happier. Bell Plumbing did everything they said they would and were on time every step of the way. I can't say enough good things about how they run their business, they totally care and it shows. Best customer experience I've had in years, I would never go anyplace else. I submitted a request for a quote for a simple job of replacing a garbage disposal. I included a photo, but Hilda D REFUSED to provide a quote. She told me I need to have them onsite to give me any information what so ever. I find it VERY hard to believe they can't provide pricing of a job which I'm sure they do often enough.

Not sure what scam they're pulling, but I'll look for a mom and pop place that actually values their business.

Quick to respond! Stands by their work! Superior service!

After 4 homes and 15+ years of experiencing the various home ownership issues that come up, Bell Plumbing is the best service provider I've ever worked with hands down. Andrew was absolutely fantastic, and I appreciate everything Greg (owner) did to solve the problem at hand!

Long Story:
Plumbing backed up late at night. The night responder told me how to stop the immediate issue and they were on it first thing in the AM. After some diagnosis and camera work, realized that it would require some major repairs, as it's an older line. They provided a few options and started work. We hit a few unforeseen issues along the way, but Bell Plumbing stood by their work and did a great job completing what turned out to be a tough job. No need to ever look elsewhere for plumbing work, and I recommend their services to everyone!

Gert came out to our shop in downtown Los Altos to clear a bunch of clogs in the hair salon next door that was causing our sinks to back up. He came on very short notice on a Saturday, and was great! Very informative, polite, worked quickly, and prices were fair. We would definitely use them again!

We had a great experience with Bell Plumbing! We noticed a leak under our kitchen sink last night, and someone was able to come out first thing this morning. They were very communicative throughout the whole process - I could book the appointment online, I received a confirmation text once the appointment had been confirmed, and we were texted a map with the technician's location and ETA when he was on his way. The technician was knowledgeable and friendly. He replaced our faucet, but felt our garbage disposal might be on its last legs, and he told us what to look for to know when it will need to be replaced. We would definitely use Bell again (and likely will, once the garbage disposal bites the dust).

Gert and the Bell Plumbing team rescued me yesterday.

At 11:30am on a frigid Thursday, PG&E turned off my gas due to a fireplace valve leak and said no gas for you until fixed, which meant no heat, hot water, fireplace, or stove, too.

Of course we're in the midst of a wtf, it's snowing in San Francisco cold snap, so I frantically start calling companies and most tell me they're unavailable until the next afternoon at the earliest. I left a message with Bell and assumed I wouldn't hear back, but I got a call back 10 minutes later and there was a 3-5pm appointment. Hurrah!

Because it's the Bay Area, it was safe to assume the plumber wouldn't show until 5:15, yet at 2:45 I got a text announcing Gert was en route. (Along with his picture and a brief bio with his qualifications, which actually undersold him.) There was a route-tracker to see how far away he was, which was first time I've had the Instacart-delivery experience with a tradesperson and I'm spoiled forever.

Gert arrived at 3 on the dot and regretfully gave me the bad news I expected: the valve needed replacing and the wall needed to be opened up. Once he saw the mess inside, Gert apologized that he wouldn't be finish by the end of the day. (A typical story when repairing my condo, which appears to have been built by untrained, unethical chimpanzees.)

But less than 10 minutes later, Gert had a new idea to solve the mess and it would get the repair done that day. To say I was happy is an understatement. It was such a relief, I probably would have paid anything but the bid was not a gouge considering all factors and the rush job.

Beyond getting the job done as fast as humanly possible, Gert is a kind, intelligent person who cared so much about making things right, he asked me to txt him when PG&E returned.

Well, it took longer for PG&E to return than it took Gert to complete the repair, but everything checked out perfectly and I had the heat back on by 10pm. That's nothing short of a *miracle* on a freezing February day that every plumbing company and PG&E rep told me was a really, REALLY busy day. (Yeah, you could say that. It was the day after the huge explosion on Geary.)

TL;DR: I hope I don't have to use their services again soon, but I will be back when the need arises and I'll be asking for Gert. Thank you, Bell Plumbing!

I had to get my sewer lateral replaced, for which trenching across the street as required by city is very expensive. Bell Plumbing was the only company that had a solution that does not require trenching - they install in-place liner from the home line to the main line in street. More expensive then other options, but way cheaper as you save $$$$ on trenching the public street. Good work, quickly approved by city

Bell Plumbing is so awesome!

First of all, I love their appointment system: they give you some background info on who is coming, and share the map so you know exactly when they will reach (if there's traffic).

Secondly, Bell Plumbing gave the best quote out of the 3 companies I asked for (San Mateo Sewer Assistance Program requires 3 quotes). They were very professional and super helpful when we applied to the program.

We were on vacation when they did the work and they gave us daily update on what's going on and when we were back, all the projects were completely finished in perfection :)

Highly recommend Bell Plumbing and indeed these folks are the best!

The kitchen drain stopped up, and we had a dinner party in the near future. Our usual plumber could not come for four days, so we settled on Bell Plumbing which could get a man out in an hour. I got 3 quotes to install a whole house filter and reverse osmosis filter in my house. Gert and Bell Plumbing came back with the best quote and Gert was very thorough in his plan. Gert arrived on time and did an excellent job installing the whole house filter first. He also showed us how it was connected and how to change the filters. He then installed the reverse osmosis filter under the sink and made sure there were no leaks. It took a few tries. He gave great pointers for changing those filters and what to do if going on vacation to avoid common water leak issues with the reverse osmosis filter. I waited a week before submitting the review to make sure everything is working well. I'd definitely will use Bell Plumbing again and - especially Gert.

After getting a new water heater and recirculating pump installed, my bathroom faucet slowed to a trickle, but the person who did the installation refused to take responsibility. I had to call three different plumbing companies to look at the problem. The first plumber saw the job, and was afraid he would damage the faucet while trying to fix it. He suggested that I buy a whole new faucet. The second plumber didn't want to give me a free estimate, and asked me to buy the part I may need before coming to fix the faucet.

Finally, Gert from Bell Plumbing came during the agreed time. He told me before he started working on the faucet that it was either an easy fix or an expensive repair or replacement. He took the faucet apart, carefully cleaned the valve restrictor, and reinstalled it, all in 15 minutes. The water was flowing again! I asked him what I owed him, but he refused to take payment for the easy fix. This is a clear example of how a company focuses on providing excellent service and building customer relationships. I will definitely call Bell Plumbing again for any future plumbing needs!

But.....for now, let me say...
Gert (plumber sent) was amazingly friendly, knowledgeable, extremely polite and professional. I was called earlier in the morning to be told of an earlier in the day opening, would I like that? Always a nice option to receive!
The customer service as well, whether email, phone, and even text, is top notch. Very timely with responses, if not almost immediate. Very pleasant to speak with.

I had to have some major plumbing done in our front yard. (Connection to the lateral). Bell was very responsive when it came to the work being done. The team was sharp and knowledgeable. I had a jammed garbage disposal. We are house sitting for my daughter who is on vacation. I called Bell Plumbing late one Sunday evening and my call was answered very promptly by a real person. She took all my information, phone#, email, address , nature of problem etc. and said someone would call in the morning . Guess what... someone did. His name was Mike Castle. I then received an e mail showing me his picture and a brief Bio on him along with the time frame we had agreed too for him to come over. (Which was between 11:00- 11:30 am)

When Mike arrived I had already taken the disposal out trying to get it un jammed, without success.
Mike proceeded to use a special designed Allen Wrench to free up the Jam. Which he accomplished in a couple of minutes. I then re connected it and turned it on to make sure it worked. Which it did.

Now for the best part. When I asked Mike how much I owed him. He said there would be no charge. Just asked that I would provide a yelp review.. Ohhhh Mike also left me the tool he used to free up the Jam.

I cannot tell you how impressed I was with the overall quality of the customer service an professionalism of Mike Castle. I am from Atlanta Visiting and just wish we could find a plumbing service like Bell Plumbing there. I am sure they don't do all their plumbing repairs for nothing,But I know who my daughter will call next time she has plumbing problems.

Gert was amazing! We lost temperature regulation in our shower and called Bell plumbing. Even though the fixture was several years old, Gert found just the right valve parts to match. We didn't end up having to install a new fixture or replace the whole unit which would have involved redoing the wall and tiling. We had a leak in the master bathroom that caused the water to drip down to the ceiling below. I requested a quote through yelp and got a message within 10 minutes to call the office. Hilda who answered the phone was very professional, explaining the pricing and service. The appointment was a two hour window (1-3 pm) so I asked her to text me when the techs are on their way so I can run errands without being stuck waiting during the timeframe. The text came shortly after 1 pm and David came within 20 minutes. He was very courteous and thorough; explained and showed me what he had done and gave me additional tips on how to proceed with the ceiling. Needed a few couplings replaced in my gas line due to a leak. Total of about 8 inches of piping. They quoted me $950 for the repair, plus $850 to run a pressure test. It's a 45 minute job. $1800. What do these people think they're doing? Plastic surgery??

UPDATE: their service manager called me after seeing this review to try to tell me I don't know what I'm talking about as this is expensive work. He didn't have any interest in hearing my response, and instead just talked over me, so I hung up. Dude, they're iron pipes, that are coupled together with some putty in between. It's not rocket science. Don't try to pretend it is just because of the San Bruno fire. Exploiting that event? Really?? No shame whatsoever....

2nd UPDATE: Repairs have been completed and I have gas again, no thanks to Bell Plumbing. Found a company called Fast Response, and they did the job and the pressure test for a whopping $250! Enough said!

I have a condo rental in San Mateo. I made 3 appointments with plumbers for an estimate of a problem that I had no clue what was needed to correct the issue. That being said--I got 3 quite different analysis and 2 different quotes which were vastly different only by sight.
The third appointment with BELL Plumbing was fantastic and here is why:
1. The office was very responsive and the appt was confirmed multiple times
2. I was called when Gert Visser was on his way
3. I was emailed with a photo -so I knew who to expect
4. When he arrived, he was articulate, personable and professional
5. he put shoe covers before he came in
6. He looked at the issue--and was extremely thorough by actually checking a few possibilities; I asked about the possible solutions that the previous plumbers recommended
7. Gert Visser was knowledgable, helpful and advised that the solution to the problem did not require as drastic as I was led to believe and at a more reasonable cost.
I highly recommend BELL plumbing and especially Gert Visser who was honest and showed integrity. Bell plumbing was recommended to me by a local real estate agent in San Carlos who calls BELL for clients, home sales as they are reliable and honest. Sewer Line: We had sewer back up for 2 yrs. Roots had invaded the line in the front yard (and later discovered leaks at both the house connection and the line from the garage). We got three bids for replacement. Greg at Bell seemed to know the issues well. We went for a system that would 'burst' the old clay tile pipe in the ground and push it aside by drawing a new heavy PVC line through it (see our pictures). Ingenious. So instead of a 100 ft trench and tearing up our patio, the sidewalk beside the house and trees, this required only three holes, at the street connector, at the house, and at the garage. I saw all the work. They did a good job of installation, hauling debris, and replacing sidewalk in front of our house. Bravo!

ADDED: My original grade was 4 stars. I'm a Fan! I said.
But when I see other Yelpers who have No friends and few Yelps cancel my experience with one stars, I'm a little peeved.
We've had work done at our house by four different plumbing companies in the last five years, and bids from at least eight (all rated at Yelp).
(Different problems, different experts: One plumber does sewer clean outs only, and we didn't call on the guys who install toilets or clear kitchen sinks when it came to a new sewer line.)
Is Bell As good as it gets? Only Consumer's Union might confirm that, but from me Bell gets a High 5. I've posted over 150 Yelps. We spent big money with Bell on a big project after a serious search for the best service/price. We got good work and value. I don't want that cancelled by someone complaining about a clogged sink.
Why not just call them back?

Since we were compelled to contract with 3 plumbing companies for assessment, this provided an opportunity to compare communications and deliverables. Of the 3 companies, 2 edged out the franchise plumbing company by a long shot. As the owner, Greg chose to remain on the forefront of the communications, and was readily available via text. What can I say about bell plumbing? They have been the most helpful in every aspect! My house is an old house so the pipes are getting old and are becoming easier to break. We had a clog in our toilet that was causing sanitary waste to come out the tub and the toilet was overflowing and getting all over our floor. They came by and were able to get the blockage out carefully which was great! They did it in a fast and timely manner which was great because we were having company over the weekend. Greg was amazing and I would definitely recommend them to everyone! Great company and great customer service!!! I will definitely use them again!

The business appears to be professional, but is not. I made an appointment 2 weeks ago, received an email and text reminder yesterday that I have an appointment today with Bell Plumbing today between 2 - 4pm. I rushed home by 2pm. At 6pm, I called Bell Plumbing, spoke to their answering service, complained that I wasted 4 hours. An early courtesy call of a no-show would have allowed me to return to my productive work. If this is how they keep their appointments, I would hate to evaluate the quality of their work.

My water heater pilot wouldn't stay lit Sunday night and I called them the following day in the morning, which was labor day. They had a 2 hour window the same day. Plumber showed up during the window and replaced the thermocouple of our water heater and the water heater is now working again. He was friendly and helpful and didn't mind me watching him work. Price could have been lower but given that they came out right away on a holiday justified it for me. Also they were the only company that offered to come out for free and give a free estimate, without asking for money to simply show up for an initial look at the problem.

We've called Bell to come out twice. The first was after another plumber installed our toilets, and they weren't flushing well. The first plumber basically said tough shit. Someone from Bell came out, adjusted the toilets, and since they spent less than 15 minutes on it, didn't charge us.
We called them again today because toilet paper and other grossness was coming up from the sewer manhole cover thing in our yard. We'd been arguing with the city saying that they needed to take care of it, but had finally given up and called a plumber. Turns out the city was just slow - they cleared the blockage a couple of hours before our appointment with Bell. Bell sent out Corey, who ran a camera down the pipes to confirm what was happening, explained how everything works to my husband, and again, since it was a 'minimal' amount of work, didn't charge us.
Someday we'll actually have a plumbing job that takes more than 15 minutes, and when that happens, we will look forward to calling Bell and actually paying them for their services. Until then, it's so nice to get professional advice, and not feel like we are being screwed over.

I was very impressed with Bell Plumbing's service in dealing with a gas line that interfered with the back panel of a new Kitchen Range I had purchased. They were fast to respond to my initial query and we able to provide a 2 hour service window the very next Day. The technician, Gert Visser, arrived on time and was very professional. Long story short, I accidentally flushed a Clorox Toiletwand head cleaner down the toilet and it affected the flushing in the toilet at my place. I was freaking out cause no matter how much I used the plunger it would not fix the flushing. So I decided to get a Yelp quote and got matched with Bell Plumbing. I needed advice on some pipes that had been smelling in our bathroom. I had done a lot of research and troubleshooting already but finally wanted a professional opinion. Gert came by and gave an honest assessment of what he thought we could/couldn't do. It's free for them to come for an estimate. Really, there was not much he could do (other than what we had already tried), but he still took apart the pipe real quick to take a look and see. Free of charge. He still spent a good half hour talking with us and giving us troubleshooting advice, but didn't rip us off trying to fix something that wasn't really fixable. This is my 2nd time using Bell Plumbing. From the moment the office dispatcher answered the phone it was top notch service. She was able to answer any questions I had along with understanding my needs when it came to this particular job. My elderly mother had a backed up toilet and sink and needed it fixed as soon as possible. I called because I couldn't get my pilot light going on my water heater. It was one of those fancy ones with the push button ignition and you peer through a tiny window to see if it is lit. I probably spent 2 hours myself trying to make it work, and made the garage pitch black to make sure there was no light pollution preventing me from seeing the pilot.

Andrew shows up on time, and much to my chagrin he gets the pilot light going on the first push. Turns out I just didn't know what I was doing and the ignition was working fine, I just didn't know what I was looking for. He didn't even charge me for the visit.

I have a larger plumbing project coming up in the next few months, and there is no question who I am going to be using for that work. On the peninsula it's impossible to get anyone to show up much less stick with their appointment time. These guys are on it. Highly recommended.

We had a major plumbing backup so we called Bell Plumbing because they are in San Carlos and had good Yelp reviews - I figured they would come out quick since they're not too far away.

Corey came over within an hour or two to investigate the problem. He figured out the cause and was able to resolve the very stubborn clog after a few attempts with different equipment. He was very polite, courteous, and didn't make a mess - even though the job required removing and replacing a toilet. The rates were reasonable for the amount of time and specialized equipment required to complete the job.

I hope to never need a plumber again, but if I do, I know I will call Bell Plumbing.

We had a series of plumbing emergencies and have always had great experiences with Bell Plumbing. First the house backed up, they came to clear it, and then it backed up again. Jonathan came out and kept at it with Andrew. It took them three days but being the mensch that he is, Jonathan kept at it. We had grease backing out into the kitchen and then found it leaked under the house. Together with Andrew they scoped the problem, evaluated options, presented solutions, and now the house was back up and running. It wasn't the least expensive option, but the service and attitude made up for it.

Just before Thanksgiving, our toilet was backed up, followed by our bathtub. I called around, including Wizard Plumbing, who said they could send someone out that evening as an emergency call for $375. When I called Bell Plumbing, they said they could get someone out for a free estimate between 4 and 6pm. At about 7:10pm, Mike from Sewer Rat showed up with a truly surly attitude. He told us it'd be $485 to even begin diagnosing what the problem was. So, HE was late, but was going to charge US an emergency rate without saying so much. However, at that point, being so late in the evening on Thanksgiving eve, we felt stuck, so regrettably had to tell him to go ahead. He wouldn't answer our questions, so I was going to call back Bell Plumbing during business hours to settle this unfortunate experience later. First priority was to fix the problem. More than one hour and $485 later, he said our sewer line was broke, problem unresolved.

How did this experience turn into 5 stars (rounding up from 4.5), when it should have been a negative rating, if yelp had one? Andrew Clark. He explained our options on the phone--at this point close to 9pm--and said he'd come do a diagnosis on Friday morning after Thanksgiving at no charge to us. It turned out there were roots in our sewer pipe (which is apparently common in these parts), and the repairs included not only replacing part of the pipe but the lateral connection to the City main (which required an emergency encroachment permit). Because of Thanksgiving, there were delays in finishing up the work, but the Bell Plumbing team first made sure our sewer line was cleared. Andrew himself came to our house 3 times to clear the clog in my bathtub. Beyond getting our problem resolved, like other reviews said, he's a very good communicator and the consummate professional.

I'm quite sure Bell Plumbing was not the cheapest option, and I'd have liked the hole in our backyard to have been filled more quickly than a week. However, all in all, the team, led by Andrew, got the urgent part of the problem resolved on a timely basis, despite how it started with Mike from Sewer Rat. So, I feel good about recommending Bell Plumbing, and will probably use them again, should the need arise.

Had a horrible bathroom emergency when my husband was out of town this past weekend. Water was everywhere when I got home from work. Bell sent someone out after hours who came within the hour and got to the source right away! Fixed the leak and replaced all failed parts. What was most reassuring was the time the technician took to explain to me what had happened and what he did to fix it. Usually I hate dealing with things like this when my husband is gone, but not once did I feel like I was getting ripped off or told false info. Would call them and recommend them in a heart beat.

I called this company to come out and fix the water line to our office refrigerator. Neither the water dispenser or the ice maker were working, and we couldn't figure out why. I got several quotes, and Bell was one of the lower ones, and were able to come out pretty quickly. So I chose them. What a good decision! Gert came out to our office and discovered in a couple of minutes that someone had turned off the cold water line. He turned it back on and was finished in under 10 minutes. I was thrilled. I've used Bell Plumbing personally and have recommended them to several colleagues and family members. The entire staff are exceptionally trained and extremely knowledgable, and have experience in both residential and commercial markets. Whether it is a simple job like a leaking pipe or a toilet replacement, or a large job like a sewer line tie-in or a complete pipe replacement, Bell can handle it. They are up front on the costs, come in at estimate and explain the entire job clearly, concisely and in terms most anyone will understand.

For those that would complain about the upsell... honestly, I find it refreshing that a company would take the time to tell me about the potential for catastrophic plumbing problems, even if I choose to do nothing about them. Very similar to an auto mechanic that does your oil change but takes the time to tell you what else might need work now or soon in the future, Bell Plumbing takes the time necessary to save you from spending thousands of dollars in the future by showing you how a few hundred spent now could prevent it. Some might not like that. I personally find that valuable.

If you are looking for plumbing services, whatever the scope or scale of the job, Bell Plumbing is the right choice. They have the tools and they have the skills to complete any job to your satisfaction and I have found them to be ready to respond to my need every time I've called on them.

The kitchen draing backed up, so I called Bell plumbing back. The clean-out down-stairs was accessible, but not suited to the type of cleaning that our drain required.

Our plumber went to 'extrodinary lengths' to use a different clean-out location. It took all day, but eventually he got the drain cleaned out and now everything is working ok again.

I give them 5 stars for good service.

We have used Bell plumbing many times for a few years - always with great results and very prompt service. Greg is awesome and he hires the best guys.

The first time was when we had an emergency with a busted water tank... on New year's day, no less! They replaced it quickly and had us back up and running in no time. Then there was the shower that needed to be replaced. And the backed up drain. Each time, they were fixed promptly and expertly with no needed return service.

We would vouch for their service and recommend them to anyone.

I saw the one bad review and thought...hm..... But then I saw their ad said 45 minutes to my door (in most cases) and Free Estimates so I gave them a call and was able to speak to the plumber that was to come to my home. He answered my questions and we summized that it was a block in my main sewer line in my home. I told him that I had a cleanout and we agreed on the price if it was what we talked about.

Michael, the plumber came over, a younger guy, but articulated well. At first when I showed him the Clean Out in the back of the house under my crawl space, he told me that would not work. As I've had other plumbers use that cleanout, I thought he didn't know what he was doing and was about to say, OK, I'll get someone else that does know what they were doing. However we found another clean out and he was able to flush it out from there.

Price was reasonable at $250 for using a hi pressure hose to flush the pipe out as opposed to using a snake to punch a hole in the blockage.

After Michael opened up the drain, he continued to flush making sure it was really clear. Then he flushed it the other way, toward my septic tank to make sure it too was clear.

I felt he went the extra mile in making sure he did a good job and I appreciate that.

The technician who came out to the job arrived in an unmarked van, quoted $800/hr to fix a simple broken pipe even though it was a weekday afternoon. He said take it or leave it because he knew I needed it fixed immediately. Neither professional nor helpful. Not a nice person.

I have had multiple experiences with Bell and have been happy each time. They have provided their services at my place of employment where we have multiple residents and at my own home. At each occasion they have come out quickly to emergency plumbing problems, given reasonable job prices, solved the problems before leaving and when and if necessary, followed up with issues.

Sewer line backup Saturday evening. I called about 10 places that were 24/7 emergency service places and this was the only one that could help me before Monday. A little more expensive than other places, but they were able to come out on a Saturday evening.

Andrew came over and snaked and reset our toilet. He was very knowledgeable and explained options to me and what I should consider regarding the possibly replacing the sewer line.

Two days later, we had another clog. Andrew was off work and in a personal appointment. He took the time to step out of his appointment and call me and he said he could come by around 11:30pm or have someone else come out first thing in the morning.

After Andrew's appointment, he went home to change, pick up a truck, and came to our house around 11:30pm to clear our clog (on his night off).

I was blown away at the service call I received from Andrew Clark at Bell Plumbing. The pilot light on my hot water heater wouldn't stay lit. Andrew went through the pilot lighting procedure and explained that the problem was with something called a Thermopile. Then he asked me when I had bought and had the unit installed. On hearing that it was less than a year, he explained it was probably still under parts-&-labor warranty. He said I could pay him to fix it right away, but he recommended I exercise my warranty and get it done for free. I thanked him for his honesty and asked how much I owed him for the service call. No charge, he said. WHAT? Every other plumber I've ever contacted has always warned me that there would be a charge just to show up at my house. I was amazed at his honest recommendation about what I should do (which meant no labor charge for him) and his refusal to even accept a tip for his visit. As a result of this great service, from now on I will ALWAYS call Bell Plumbing first when I have a plumbing problem. As far as I'm concerned, this is as good as it gets.

Plumbers are great, but Management was shaky. Got a quote and they tried to match pricing of competitors, however, they slipped up and gave away their real prices.

Long story short... jacked up prices by $100 bucks when really it was a City job, altogether!!!

I too have used Bell Plumbing for some basic clogs and thought that was going to be the case this time but no such luck... It turned out our 1950's San Carlos home with the archaic Orange Bird piping was due for a complete new sewer line. After renting a home depot 100' snake and trying it on my own, (and getting the snake stuck), I called Greg and the Bell boys came right over, manually pulled out my stuck snake and went to work. They ran the camera, dug the giant holes by hand and gave me a thorough assessment of everything.
We ended up doing hydraulic pipe bursting replacement and now have a new sewer line and two clean outs. Our yard is on a hill and the line is about 75' long so digging the whole line out wasnt really an option. Greg & Steve were awesome! Big job, great service.

I called Bell Plumbing on the weekend. It wasn't an emergency in any way. I was expecting an answering machine or answering service. Instead one of the office workers answered. She explained they did not do phone estimates, but would schedule a plumber to come over to do an accurate estimate at no charge. We had two issues -- the first was a minor leak in the lawn sprinkler system. The second was an issue we had tried several times to have fixed with no success. Two of those attempts were by plumbers -- they had expensive suggestions. Our downstairs bathroom sink faucet had poor pressure on the hot side. The cold was fine. A fancy Kohler, the last attempt to fix it had somehow managed to make it quit completely. We rent and I was dreading the fuss to get them to layout for re-plumbing that sink. It took the plumber from Bell less than 5 minutes to diagnosis and fix the problem. He had the lawn irrigation problem fixed quickly as well. It took him such little time; he did not charge anything. Next time I have any plumbing problem, I will be calling them first.

I've used them twice. Once was for an emergency weekend water heater repair. They came out the same day although several other emergency plumbers I called weren't available. Another time they came out the same weekday for a busted drain pipe. In both cases they arrived more or less within the promised 2-hour window. In both cases they fixed the problem quickly and efficiently. Their services are on the expensive side but not unreasonable.

Update: Bell Plumbing sent over a guy from Smelly Mel's Plumbing probably because they were booked and I needed immediate assistance. The guy charged me $485 for snaking of cable (with easy access from washout in front of the house) and convinced me to do washout with water jetter for additional $200. He was using billing invoice from Bell's Plumbing, told me to make check to Bell's Plumbing to told me pricing was based on Bell Plumbing. When I looked online and called around some bay area plumbing places I got a quote of $175-300 for passing cable with easy access and some places stated I didn't need washout with water jetter. I felt I was overcharged. I called Bell Plumbing and complained. Within a few hours the owner Greg showed up to my place to discuss my concerns and inspected the pipes with video camera for free to make sure the pipes were cleaned out well. Last of all he was willing to credit me back $300 dollars so that I felt I got a fair price for the work.

Thank you Greg for making things right. It's so important to have a plumbing company that you feel is trustworthy and does fair business practices.

Our toilets were clogged and we need plumbing help ASAP. We contacted a few companies, including Bell plumbing and Bell was able to come out same day (thank goodness). When Bell came out they camera'd our line for free, were able to diagnose the problem (roots in the line) and gave a reasonable quote. We received pricing from other companies but Bell was by far the best pricing. They also went above and beyond and came out to inspect the project first so their pricing was accurate. I definitely appreciated not having any surprises once they started the job. They used a system called pipe bursting which it was less invasive and we were able to keep our garden because of it (I would have been devastated to lose my tomatoes!). I really appreciated their professionalism in a stressful situation and thought their end work was superb. Their receptionist kept me updated on everything and was easy to communicate with as well as. Additionally, Greg the owner of the company, was very hands-on I really feel we got the best deal and final outcome. We loved working with Bell Plumbing and highly recommend them for future plumbing jobs and emergencies.

I had several jobs which I had been putting off the call for a a plumber.The final motivation was a backed-up laundry sink yesterday.
I called Bell and set an appointment to look at the jobs today. 1. Laundry sink (old cast iron trap) done and running free. 2. Install a new self-purchased garbage disposal under a double sink which I had hoped would solve a sluggish drain on that side (the old one was 25+ years old) and a rooter company had been out to clear the waste line from under the sink with no success, Nope, still very slow.. Greg, Bell's plumber, cut open the rusted outside cast-iron clean-out plug to gain access, and did the the job properly, closing the opening with an expandable plug. Now draining freely. 3. I recently had my 65 year old behemoth forced air gas heater replaced with a 96% efficient heater and wasn't pleased with the configuration of the old gas-line into which the heater installers had connected. It was left kind of hanging with little support or protection. Greg rerouted the line to make it much less vulnerable to accidental damage.
He was personable, did a great job on all three tasks and left little or no trace of his presence. The pricing was fair and I was made aware of all costs beforehand. I'd call Bell again.

I have to say that my experience with Bell Plumbing was one of the best I've had with any service provider. Yesterday, I requested a quote from a few plumbers via Yelp. Hilda from Bell was the first to reach out; she emailed and called me within a few minutes. Hilda was super friendly and efficient and set me up with a 2-hour window for an appointment with one of their plumbers the next morning (which is today). I got a text this morning with a bio and photo of our plumber, Gert, as well as his ETA and map tracking link. This was a really nice touch--you're inviting an unknown person into your home, seeing their photo and knowing a little about them before they show up is great. Gert was on time, extremely nice, very knowledgeable, and worked efficiently to clear out our drains quickly. I was super impressed with the whole experience. Thanks, Bell! Absolutely the best choice, if you need a plumber, especially for a Sewer Lateral replacement!
All these acalades are correct and real.
My small rental property in San Carlos had a sewer backup, a real emergency. First company I called had to bring in high powered machine (chged over $1000) to clear it, we had sewage all over the front yard, and 75 year clay pipes full of roots, indicated most were broken.
Their Sewer Lateral replacement quote was so high, decided to look for another company.
If you need a replacement, you want a company that has a Class A license if have to replace into the street as have to have an Engineering licence. Companies that do not have, will have to sub that part
out to a company that has one and you will pay substantially more.
That is how I found Bell plumbing, and Greg (owner) has a Class A and was recommended.
Price was the best, got the permits quickly thru the city, finished in 3 days , had it inspected,
trenchless is the way to go. Great people, work fast, and handled the problem immediately.
Nice to have such a great plumber right in the neighborhood!

I came home to a leaky toilet and discovered water on the floor. I searched for a plumbing company but none were available. I ended up finding Bell Plumbing on Yelp and I'm glad I did. They were able to send someone out within an hour. Andrew showed up, he was very polite, he explained to me what the problem was and gave me an estimate that I perceived to be reasonable. He then began working; he had to pull the toilet and reset the seal. After the job was complete, he left my bathroom very clean and gave me warranty for the work. I highly recommend Bell Plumbing!

During the holidays our sewer started to back up. The drain in our shower wouldn't drain and the toilets in our bathroom were draining slowly, erratically, or not at all. I called up a half dozen plumbers and Greg was the first to respond. I explained the situation and within 2 hours he was at our house. We had recently purchased the house. And the lines had already been snaked about 3 months prior. During that process we got a couple quotes for replacing the main line to the sewer. Greg and two of his colleagues spent a significant amount of time walking through the pros and cons of snaking the lines on this occasion viz. replacing the main line from the house to the street. We didn't want to start work on replacing the main line because (1) it was out of our budget and (2) we were getting ready to head out for a holiday trip and didn't want work to be under way while we were gone. Greg offered to work with us on a payment plan and he said he could get started work on the main line the *same day* and that he would be a third of the way done before we left town. He seemed trustworthy so we decided to move ahead right away instead of paying to snake the lines AND having to replace the main line at some point in the months ahead. While Greg and his team were working on the project they were easy to get a hold of and were very responsive - providing us with a heads up about each phase of the project. When we got back the line was replaced and everything was better than new. When we received our invoice, there was a discrepancy between the written quote and the final price. The final invoice was about $600 more than what we had been quoted. So obviously I wasn't too happy. But Greg had been nothing but professional and totally trustworthy, so I gave him the benefit of the doubt and patiently waited to have a strong reaction until after I could talk to him. It took about a week before Greg and I finally connected to talk it through. There was a miscommunication about the cost of digging up the sewer connection under the street. It wasn't clearly articulated in the written agreement. So Greg honored his word and charged us the price he quoted. I walked away from the entire experience feeling very good about how Greg handled everything. The quality of the work was very high. (You couldn't even tell they had dug up a portion of our yard.) The biggest compliment I can give is to recommend him and his crew to you. In fact, I plan on calling him again very soon for some remodel work that will require his expertise.

Update::

Greg called and wanted to discuss the yelp review. He was generally concerned about my experience and he listened as I told him I was unhappy with the first days worth of work, but still paying full price for it. He said he would call me back the next day with a resolution. Long story short, he called back and made it right and just wanted me to walk away happy.

It says a lot when the manager/owner is willing to call personally to make sure the customer is satisfied. He understood where I was coming from and wanted a satisfied customer. Not every interaction in business goes as planned, but taking the effort to fix the situation deserves 5 starts for Bell Plumbing. I would use them again. Side note: Called to make payment and the receptionists are extremely friendly and pleasant! Thanks again Greg.

So the day before Valentines Day, my wife accidentally drops her ring down the flushing toilet. We were 5 minutes to walking out the door to attend a play in the city with out of town family and that we had paid good money for the tickets. My wife called Bell Plumbing and we specifically asked for a snake with a camera to see if the diamond ring was salvageable. Greg said he would send a guy out. Had the mother in law stay at our house to meet the plumber while we attended the show, which honestly was not enjoyed as we were worried sick about the ring. The plumber showed up and spend 30 minutes trying to vacuum out the toilet. He did not bring a camera as we asked. I was notified, and spent the second half of the play, which I had paid quite a bit of money for, on the phone trying to figure out what had happened, what the plumber did, why the plumber didn't use the camera as we had asked, and then on the phone with my bank to cancel the check written. Well, cancelled check resulted with the manager Greg calling me back and I made it clear I had requested a scoping of the pipes, that this was a lost ring and not a toy soldier that has been dropped down the drain. I mean, this was our 10 year anniversary ring. Greg proceeded to tell me that in his 20 years of experience, it was highly unlikely to get the ring back and that I should not waste my money (this is the day before Valentines day and my wife is trying to watch the play with my parents holding back tears). I told Greg, for a 7K ring, I'd be more than happy to pay his fee and even double it for the assurance that either my wifes ring is either there or not. Greg seemed more concerned about payment and the cancelled check than he did with my wifes precious ring being lost on Valentines Day weekend.

On Valentines Day morning, James the plumber showed up to scope the plumbing pipes. Lo and behold, my wifes 10 year anniversary ring is 4 feet down. I can't imagine if I had taken Greg's advice to not waste the money based upon his 20 years of so called experience. James and I proceeded underneath the house, opened up the Clean Out cap, and it was right there.

I greatly appreciated James coming out and going above and beyond to get this precious ring back. James did an outstanding job and made my wife feel like someone else actually cared about getting this back for her.

I can not say the same for the manager Greg. Word of advice, if someone loses a wedding ring down a toilet or sink. Try to act like you care. Its not just money, but memories and treasures. Don't assume that they are not going to get it back and that it is lost forever. Have some empathy and actually provide a measure of customer service. And don't be worried about the damn check. I would gladly have paid double what I paid to get the ring back.

If you want an honest hard-working, knowledgeable employee, you make sure to have Luiz do your plumbing job. The real value of a business boils down to its employees and the value of a dedicated hard-worker is an invaluable asset. Bell Plumbing's principals would be wise to do whatever it takes to integrate an employee like Luiz and ingrain him into the company for a long time. Fantastic representative for your business. My property in San Mateo had a decades old 55ft cast iron lateral sewer line that had multiple roots and needed to be replaced. I shopped around but was ultimately recommended to Bell Plumbing. I called them last week and the manager, Johnny, met me onsite within a couple of hours. He spent 30-40 minutes walking through and explaining to me the procedure, cost, etc. I had an estimate in my hands later that day and proceeded onward with the work. This was an extremely complicated job, with numerous utilities, a high power gas line (PG&E had to be onsite to supervise) and a main water line in between my property and the main sewer line. Johnny and his crew took care of it in 5 days, with no complaints/issues from my tenants, and with zero problems or headaches. Bell Plumbing managed the markings, the traffic, fixing the street, dealing with the city, etc. Johnny kept me in the loop with updates every day. I met with the owner Greg, a very nice guy, at the end of the job, and everything was done perfectly. They did quality work and stuck to their estimate. Great company, great people, will definitely be working with them again.

Cannot say enough about the excellent service from Bell Plumbing. We had a backed-up main sewer line down the hill at the back of our property; it wasn't easy to get to. Andrew arrived within the promised two-hour window and cabled and cleared the clog (sadly, small roots were present). Andrew will return tomorrow with a camera but--for now--the problem is fixed and water is flowing! Andrew is an extremely competent and pleasant gentleman; we are so very happy to have called Bell!

I had a great experience with Bell Plumbing and would recommend them to anyone. The disposal unit under my sink literally fell off my sink, causing a big mess. Greg, the owner, came out personally to fix the sink on a Saturday. The job was fixed in no time, and he even helped me with another problem I was having, so he solved two job instead of one. I'm really busy with a child and full time job so when I'm wowed by an experience that saves me time and solves my issues, I want to pass along my story so someone else can choose Bell as well.

AMAZING & courteous service! I called for a toilet backup, was told help will arrive within an hour. Andrew was at my door within 20 minutes and took care of t he problem. Could not be happier with the quality and timeliness of service. Best of all, the charges were very reasonable too. I would recommend this place any day.

Having a plumbing issue is an already shitty no pun intended circumstance. Having no empathy or sympathy to the situation and being made to feel like nothing more than a blank check in the process, the situation remains unresolved while standing on the other end of a cashed check..........!?!? I wouldn't recommend them to anyone!!!!!!

Cody and Mike from Bell Plumbing came out to our house for the second time and scoped and unblocked our plumbing free of charge. This business understood the value of happy customers and went out of their way to ensure we were serviced and satisfied within a few hours of calling them. This was a second visit for Bell and our plumbing was backed up again after only 3 months. I wanted help trying to identify the problem with a camera this time so we could see what was causing the issue in such a short time span. The Bell Plumbing guys came out with the camera and told me the truth and said our plumbing looked good and identified where the spot where the backup took place. Most likely issue was my kids putting too much TP down the toilet. The team could have charged me again for clearing my blockage but did not and they have now won a customer for life. Great job and thank you for your quick response and help with my plumbing problems.

Bell Plumbing San Carlos is the main-stay of every gas/water/remodel project I've undertaken at my home over the past 7 years.

Currently remodeling my bath room, past projects have included a gas firepit, kitchen work, moving a furnace during a seperate remodel, a new sewer line, and a previous bath remodel.

Always professional, clean, and fairly priced. I'd gladly recommend to my neighbors and friends.

We had a previous problem and wrote a review which we have subsequently removed. The reason is that we spoke with management at Bell and are totally satisfied that the issue we had with them is resolved. The Manager was very sincere and forthright about wanting to fix the issue and he did so to our satisfaction. We would definitely call Bell again for our plumbing needs. Their customer service is excellent. Our neighbors told us about Bell, initially, as they have always been pleased with their service.

I am surprised by some of the negative reviews on here! We had a plumbing emergency in which our sprinkler system had broken and flooded a large area surrounding our house main. He diligently dug out all of the mud about a foot deep to figure out where the leak was originating, and stopped it. It was a very challenging project because in this particular space, there was a maze of piping running every way. But he was able to find the problem and now we have a sprinkler company redoing our sprinkler valves. He was able to fix it in time before flooding occurred in our basement. We will definitley use Bell Plumbing in the future!! Plumbers are not cheap, and his price for the labor was fair. Highly recommend!

Double check pricing with Greg if you have an elderly parent needing work done. I returned from vacation to learn that my mom had called them. She had her garbage disposal removed per her request and new drain pipes under the sink installed.....$750.00. He then talked her into a new sink faucet, which she did not need nor had requested, but he gave her the price of faucet and labor at $550.00. Greg told her that the faucet cost $350.00. total job....$1300.00 His technician was on the job for approximately 2 hours tops!
The faucet was plastic and poorly installed. It rocked back and forth on the sink deck and the escutcheon plate also slid back and forth.
I called Greg (the one and only time he would speak with me) and asked him what kind of faucet it was. He said he was not sure, but thought it was a Price Pfister or Delta. I went to Home Depot and found the same faucet on the shelf for $109.00. It was made by Moen.
Once again, several attempts were made to contact him over the phone by leaving messages with his secretary Raquel, who was actually very nice.
Finally, she told me that he would not call me back, but instead would refund a check for $350, which he did. I will leave that up to you readers, but I have to wonder...guilt perhaps.
Lastly, he had told me that the price was an industry standard. Well that may be for Mr. and Mrs. Hillsborough, but in my opinion, not a 75 year old woman on a fixed income.
Well, just remember to get other quotes before selecting a company to keep everyone honest.

They rebuilt a toilet (that means they replaced the non-porcelain parts in the tank) here a couple of years ago. The metal parts they used rusted and disintegrated in the tank. Never again.

They were polite and sent the plumber at a convenient time. Most of the job was done well but the guy installed my new faucet incorrectly. I didn't notice the problem until he had left so I called and they sent him back. He said that the faucet was defective, he could not do anything about it and I should buy a different one. Then he said I should call and ask for him and he'd work with me to install the new one at a discount. This made me feel like he was trying to cover himself. I was skeptical so I called the faucet manufacturer and they said it was installed wrong and told me how to fix it. I was able to fix it myself and now it works perfectly. It also turns side-to-side more smoothly than before when he had installed it. If I had done what he told me to do, it would have cost me a lot more time and money and it still may not have been installed right. I was not pleased with his attitude. He didn't even look at it to see if he might have made a mistake.

I had a clogged drain. These guys arrived on time with everything they needed, and even came back the next day to do a free video exam of my drain line. Great attitude, they got the job done quickly and expertly, and added extra value at no charge. How can you beat that?

Bell Plumbing is my go-to plumber. I call them for little things like clogged sinks and for big things like unexplained water seeping up in the yard. They are always on-time for their stated appointment window and they always clearly explain what is going on and what work they need to do. Even when the work is a pain in the neck, they're cheerful and professional. Best of all, they make an effort to be clean and tidy while they are working, so I'm never stuck wiping up grease marks or water after they leave.

received a $250 bill for a Failed kitchen sink cleanout. Guy refused to access cleanout under house and claimed the only way to fix plugged sink would cost $1800. I refused and my husband had the sink fixed that night after using the cleanout that the plumber claimed was not accessable. It took him all of about 30 minutes !!

We had an emergency plumbing situation. The guy arrived in good time but charged us way too much. He wasn't even here for an 45 minutes. His machine broke and started smoking up the place. He didn't bring a big enough bucket so he had to use OUR trash cans and then didn't clean them out when he was done! He did fix the problem but they wouldn't be the first ones on our list to call again

I Used Yelp yesterday to look for a Plumbing co. near me in San Mateo. I read Bell Plumbings review like what I read. I email them to make an appt. got a call back that evening, made an appt. for the next day. Steve came, on time checked out my problem (lslow drain and leak). Gave me some advice on using my garbage disposal before running dish washer, and before using the water in the sink. I ask how much I owed him and he said, free estimate. WOW..free This is a company I will call again and refer to my friends. Thanks Steve

I got a reference to use Bell from Stephen's Plumbing for a damaged sewer lateral and to improve my storm drain system. In brief, my experience with them as been about dealing with attentive, communicative staff, having them do quality work, at a fair price. My issues started with sewage coming out of my exterior cleanout. Stephen's Plumbing assisted with an emergency snaking of the lateral, but they mentioned that as they had previously visited my address numerous times for the previous owner of the house, for exactly the same issue, there might be a more serious underlying problem. They suggested Bell for doing a camera inspection. Bell came to do the camera inspection at no cost which confirmed an initial suspicion that my lateral was damaged and would need replacement. As I live in San Mateo, the city has a sewer lateral cost sharing program, but at the time of my sewage problems.that program would not restart for a few more months. Bell was frank in outlining my options, from immediate lateral replacement, to temporary measures to tide us over until the cost sharing program would restart. We opted to try and delay until the cost sharing restart - Bell assisted us with hydrojetting (at a competitive price) that bought us some time, and they also walked us through some of the paperwork and establishing connections with City Hall so that we would be first in line to get our cost sharing application approved. At the same time, Bell noticed deficiencies in our storm drain system and noted that while they were fixing the sewer lateral, it would be wise to take advantage of the construction permits and the need to redo our concrete driveway (our lateral runs under the driveway) to save money when fixing our storm system as well. Bell did a great job of installing a trenchless system, relocating our exterior cleanout to bring it up to current building code, and creating a bomb-proof new storm drain system that was mitigating some previously unnoticed water that was beginning to affect our house foundation. While the project took a bit longer than anticipated due to some unavoidable delays, the end result was professional, of high quality, and at a very reasonable price. We are now finishing up on the last of the sewer lateral cost sharing paperwork and are expecting a check from City Hall, thanks to Bell. Kudos especially to Andrew, who managed our project and kept us constantly up to date on progress.

Have used them three times int he past year - while the first two visits seemed expensive (jobs were bigger than they appeared and one required re-tiling part of the bath) on the third trip I was treated to a very reasonable charge - I just needed one small item replaced but the technicain basically replaced everything under the sink and only charged us the minimum visit fee.

Greg D at Bell Plumbing is as good as it gets. He comes when he says he will, he fixes what needs fixing, he does it on time and under budget. This guy goes the extra mile to do the work that needs to be done, even if it wasn't what you called him out for. Everything is explained and all questions are answered before they start the job. They come back out if I have any further questions, and they let me know what they were doing and why. I refer anyone I know to them.
