We hired Lucas Lawn to install a new drip system and do cleanup on all our front yard plants and trees, which were seemingly, at the time, beyond help. But as it turned out, they just needed a major haircut - a complete makeover, actually! Everything turned out great. We're super happy with the work, the yard looks great, and no probs with the new drip. Ryan was very easy to work with, responsive, and spent the time educating us about our yard. We are somewhat new to Phoenix so weren't sure even what we had growing in it. Also, the pricing was reasonable, unlike some other bids we got for the same work. I heartily recommend Lucas Lawn & Yard Care. We will definitely be calling on them again in the future!

Humberto and his tree trimming crew of Chips Tree Service just finished trimming my pecan tree in Tempe. They were so fast and did an excellent job. The week prior they also trimmed two large branches from a eucalyptus and a mulberry tree. They clean up the yard afterwards, so the debris is gone and the yard looks better than before. Each time they were amazingly professional in their service and friendly and accommodating and able to communicate very well.

Brianna in the Chips Tree Service office was great at scheduling and keeping me informed, especially after the job was delayed a few days in order to remove some bees in one of the trees. The rescheduling was done within days, not weeks. The original scheduling after agreeing to the estimate was also quick, days not weeks afterwards.

Jack, the arborist who provided the estimate for the job, was also very professional. He really knows his stuff, and he offered a good price.

I recommend Chips Tree Service whole-heartedly!

The communication is spotty. The crew makes their own decisions on when the job is done. If you don't like it they say to call the office.
The office will charge your card even if the job was not done.

This is the second time we have hired this company to take care of our trees and my second review. The first experience was about 8 months ago when we had our mature Palo Verde and Mesquite trees thinned out and fertilized. Chip did a beautiful job.

This time was to save our largest Palo Verde that was recently damaged by the wind. The largest branch was downed along with several atttached feeders. We were afraid that the tree was doomed. But Anthony assured us that not only could it be saved, but made to grow and flourish better than before.

We had to do some major remodeling that included thinning, shaping and removing about 1/3 of the tree top. We decided to do both of our trees so that they would be symmetrical when recovered. We are tree huggers and a leap of faith on our part to do such MAJOR work.

The company showed up on time and the workers got to work immediately. There was a miscommunication that caused a little grief, but the company made everything right quickly.

Anthony, the certified arborist was great and honest which I appreciated so much. He incorporated some things like removing debris which is easy for them to do but very hard for us. We agreed to tree trimming and feeding. The tree trimming group was here Friday and did a great job on trimming two large eucalyptus trees. Noe was very personable and eager to help. Fernando was amazing in how he trimmed the larger tree so quickly. Ricardo was able to get all the dead wood off the other tree. Carlos did clean up. We were very happy with the work! Our only comment is that we asked to keep all the wood chips but discovered that the chipper was not cutting up wood into small pieces as we have had before so we have to clean it up as we use it. We would certainly recommend the company however.

Chips tree service gave me 3 bids. The first was to skin my palms, Did a great job with that. The second was to remove 3 large pine trees, Did a great job with that. The third was to remove an Olive tree, ( that was done at the same time the pine trees were removed ) and remove the root ball. This is where my issue came. They charged $250 to remove the Olive tree. That was OK. They charge $1000 to remove the root ball. I was told by their office when I asked if they could plant my palm at the same time that there would not be enough time in the day because the root ball removal would take too long. 2 men arrived at 7:30, dug and used a chain saw to cut it out about 2 feet deep and were packed up and left by 8:30. The photos show the job they left. I find it hard to believe that they could charge $500 per hour for each man to do that job. When asked about it Mitchel said they underbid the job it and charge $100 an inch for root removal. When he later spoke to my husband he acted like he had never had a conversation with me. He said you signed a contract, it is $1000. I did sign the contract. Second issue. I did not know that they kept my credit card number on file and billed the balance without sending me a final bill or letting me know that they were going to charged on it. I would highly recommend no one use this company. This is how the job was left.

Christien and his team led by Humberto not only surpassed what I know nothing about ... trimmed two front trees while at the same time, removed a bush and another tree in the back. And oh boy, were they quick!!! They arrived within the timeframe that was provided to us, in fact, right in the earlier side of that clock. (We all know how amazing that is.) the price was amazing as well!!! Humberto and team communicated throughout what seemed to only be 5 mins. The smiles and graciousness they all showed will always be my go to in my phone for any tree service! Bar none.

They're REALLY good at deceiving customers, pointing fingers at other employees, and ultimately pointing fingers at the customer. This is NOT a business you want to hire.

Miscommunication, empty promises, and lack of follow-through: I asked them to come out and finish the job, as in staking the trees they planted two weeks ago, and putting rocks back around the trees as they had been. (By the way, some of the rocks were stacked up around the tree beds when they removed them but quite a few of them were thrown into our basil plants. Nice.) I couldn't believe one of the responses to my pleas for them to just stake our new trees as they had said they would do (I had already replaced a lot of the rocks myself) was How about we stake your trees and instead of us charging you for that, you give us a good review?

How about you do the job as you had said you would and THEN I leave you a good review?

They were supposed to:
In the backyard, take the stumps from the dead trees out of the planters, replace them with new trees (that WE bought), trim the other trees in the yard, check the sprinklers, and then return the rocks to the planters. They said they would clean up the front yard of leaves but when asked if they could pull a couple of weeds, they said no, they're tree guys.

What they did:
Left little rocks and dirt clumps all through our lawn in back.
Took out the stumps, leaving quite a few dead roots in the planters.
Planted the two new trees and trimmed existing trees.
The guy who was supposed to check the sprinklers didn't come out for a few days afterward and that arrival was a guessing game. (He did finally show up.)
We were told the staking guy would come out in a day or two after that. A week later, nothing.
Denied promising the install of stakes, the return of the rocks, asked for a good review in return for them doing what they should of in the first place, and said my husband should of been the one calling them to handle the situation.
Also, before I called them and spoke to Mitchell, who asked for the good review, and then received a call from Mike, who started the conversation with a condescending tone, they hadn't charged us for the second half of the project. Once my call with Mike was over, they charged us immediately.

By the way, Mike was willing to throw Mitchell completely under the bus by firing him.

The only thing they did REALLY well: Played the blame game.

We had Anthony out when we lost a tree to the storm. His expertise was very evident, and he was friendly and helpful with recommendations for replacing the tree. When we ended up needing to use another solution, I had failed to see the non-refundable deposit clause in the contract. Anthony was gracious and was able to help with that as well.

We got several bids and selected Chip off the old Block. There was a 70' pine and a 60' Elm that needed to go. They showed up at 7;30am did the job in about 90 minutes. They left the place looking better than they found it. This is a Condo Community and we have a lot of trees.
The Arborist came originally to bid the job and he was a very nice and knowledgeable man named Jack.
They injected the stump of the Elm because the roots were breaking pipes and driveways. We have an appointment next week to grind the stump of the Pine.

The actual work crew does amazing work. They were quick and the work was quality. They would get five stars alone! However the scheduler and sales people need to work on their communication. Sales person had no issue taking money up front, letting us know the scheduler will call. I had to call multiple times before I finally find out that the scheduler takes 24 hours before getting back to you. Sales person left that out. Won't be using them again which is a shame because the crew work really is great.

I had chip off the old block trim my 75 ft Aleppo Pine tree and the crew did a wonderful job. They arrived early and started on the tree and then the crane arrived . They were very careful with my property and my neighbor's property because the tree limbs were hanging over both our roofs. The two tree climbers were awesome! The crew cleaned up our yards, roofs, and the street. Jacob came to my house twice and explained everything that needed to be done to keep my tree alive because I did not want to have it removed due to we love our tree. All in all the crew was at my house for two and a half hours and the tree looks fantastic. I recommend them to anyone who needs tree service.

Well, sadly I will be moving on to another company. I have used these folks a few different times and they were okay. Didn't always necessarily follow my requests on trimming the huge tree in my front yard. Most recently I scheduled an appointment, took the time off from work, and they didn't bother to show. I called and left a message and they have yet to respond and it's been a few weeks. With customer service like this, it's no wonder businesses go out of business. Your customers have a choice and at this point I'm not choosing you nor recommending you. Maybe putting this on Yelp will get their attention!

They did a wonderful job of saving my storm damaged 25' mesquite tree. They pruned and thinned the tree and added three duck bill anchor cables to keep it from blowing over. I called them with an emergency request because were having multiple monsoon storms lined up for a week and they worked me into their schedule. We are perfectly satisfied with the work that Chip Off The Old Block did for us and our palm tree. We, unfortunately, had to have a palm removed and this company brought out their estimator in quick time, and the work was done within 3 days of the estimate. Loved that!! The clean-up was impeccable with very very very little sawdust left behind. We chose not to grind the stump and they left a very flat surface for us to place something atop it. I don't like writing bad reviews but I told them that I was going to and, unlike them, I stand by my word. First, the quality has really gone downhill since the new ownership. My whole experience would be very lengthy so I will break it down.

1) I had to explain 6 or 7 times to office staff what I wanted done.
2) Appointments were not kept.
3) Work was not completed as discussed causing multiple days of having to arrange my schedule to accommodate them.
4) The quality of work was not the same as prior services.
5) They messed up my patio with their equipment so I had to give them yet another day of my time for them to come out and fix it.
6) One particular supervisor in the office is extremely unprofessional, rude and condescending.

After speaking with supervisors, I finally was able to get them to discount the service. We will not use this business again and certainly would not recommend them to any friends or neighbors.

I am so please with the job that Chip off the Old Block did on my trees. I had a very overgrown Siso tree that had lost it shape and a Tipu tree that needed some trimming. Joe the arborist did a great job, and is very knowledgeable.
Moifes and his tree crew did an excellent job trimming all of the trees, cutting down a tree, and removing all the debris.
George and Ralph were prompt, friendly, and quickly ground down and removed stumps and cleaned up the site.
Carey showed up promptly and did a great job fertilizing all the trees.
Ophelia coordinated all three crews coming and was very friendly. We will be using them again in the future.

Refused to give a quote for palm trimming services over the phone, which I understood. I thought we could get a ballpark figure, but now I understand why. When trimmers came to the house for our 2 palms, we were told there is a $600 min charge. WHAT????? Never ever have paid anywhere near this. Asked for a quote to be left on Friday.
Called on Monday to get quote emailed since it was not left at property. Never received quote.
Called on Tuesday to confirm email address and get estimate emailed, never received quote.
Left message on Tuesday night to have someone call me, never received a call.
Called again on Wednesday and asked for verbal quote and confirmed email. Asked to schedule and the person answering the phone said she couldn't schedule me with no offer to transfer to someone who could. She did provide the number of the arborist/Estimator. I did talk to arborist/estimator who was nice and answered my question about one of the proposed services, but again could not schedule me and told me to call the office. It shouldn't take this many phone calls to schedule a service. Moving on to another provider.

This is the first time I have used Chip off the old Block and my entire experience was awesome. Joe came out and gave me a fair quote on removing three trees. He was knowledgeable and helpful. On the day of the work Moises and crew came out on time and removed the trees within two hours. They knew exactly what had to be done and they were all respectful to my property and cleaned up the area. They even went by my neighbor's house to clean up a little bit of debris that had gone over to their yard. After that Saul and his helper came by to remove the tree stumps. They, too, were easy to work with and did a fantastic job. They even had to be especially careful as they were working around irrigation pipes. Also appreciated Ofalia in the office and she was helpful in getting everything tied up. Would highly recommend Chip off the old Block - Awesome job for a good price

I went online to get an estimate appointment, and had one within three days (it was a holiday weekend). Mitchell came out to check out my trees and walked around my yard telling me about all the trees I have and how to best keep them healthy. Two days later there were three guys at my house to do a property line cut of my neighbors trees as well as prune 4 others. They were efficient, clean and did a beautiful job on the trees. I will highly recommend this company to anyone that asks!

I cannot believe the turnaround time I received when I had a large Palo Verde split after a decent Valley storm. I knew there were going to be a lot of folks like me looking for a removal after the storm...

Mike was out to quote the next day, professionally, and the team was out the following morning to work. They had a large crew and were done very quickly, leaving my backyard cleaner than before they arrived.

I need to break my comments into three categories:
1. The quotation - Jack was timely, informative and developed a reasonable quote is little time. My rating would be an A.
2. The crews - the first crew arrived on schedule to remove the tree. They were courteous and efficient. They were in and out in less than an hour. Rating is an A. The second crew was the grinding crew. Same experience. Rating is an A.
3. Customer Service - here my experience was completely different. While there were a few exceptions (there were several phone calls), they were generally not helpful, often the person I was trying to contact was not there, they were poor at returning phone calls, and in some cases bordered on rude. Rating D-

I may use Chip again but I hope they solve the customer service problem. Or I may not.

Don't let them rip you off! I have been getting my tree in our front yard trimmed by them for 6 years. They were never great with calling you back for your estimate, but the prices were always reasonable and they did a great job. I called for an estimate this year, 4 days later and no email as promised. I called back and the poor staff has no idea how to read or review anything on file. They finally figured out how to send me the estimate and it was more than DOUBLE the cost for the same service I have received for 6 years. Nothing has changed, same tree, same trimming. I was told they are under new management and have new prices with a minimum. Ok sure, I can see a slight increase, but double!? What a joke.

Poor follow up after appointments were confirmed. No one ever called back with times for two different days. Front office blames estimator; but the company seems to be in disarray! Tree trimming crew did not cleanup very well after finishing. Will never use again. Don't waste your money!

I have used Chip Off The Old Block for many years and was previously very happy with their work. I am not happy at all with the job they just did, but there is one thing in particular that really has me upset. I asked them for the estimate to include the removal of a dead tree (not very big) which it appeared on the paperwork that they did. However the day of the work the tree was just chopped down and the stump and roots left. I called them about this as the estimate had said to pick out which sound like stump and roots to me. They sent their stump grinders out another day to do the work. They picked out the stump leaving all the roots. When I asked them about the roots the guy said they are just going back to mother earth. Then I began looking into getting a new tree for the area the other tree had been removed from and found out that the nursery I have used in the past will not put in a new tree for you if there are still roots from an old tree and they do not remove them. When I received the estimate from Chip Off the Old Block there was no explanation that pick out as it sounds did not include the roots. I went back and forth calling them and I spoke with them last on September 2, 2020 and they promised to get back to me about resolving the issue. I was extremely patient, but today, 12 days later I called them back. They had done nothing on my issue. They called the employee who originally gave me the estimate then and called me back saying the only way to get the roots removed is if I pay an extra charge. I paid what I think already was an over inflated price of $800 for 5 trees to be trimmed and one dead tree to be removed. I am not paying more and I will never use this company again and I think other potential customers need to be aware of their business practices. I have talked above about my main complaint, but other things they did were also not professional including being late, smoking in my yard and my presence, dumping their discarded cigarette in my yard, cutting off one of my drip lines, leaving the property in the back yard, front yard and street not properly cleaned up and on their second visit breaking one of my garden lights. Do not use this company!

So have you ever had the experience of finding a business that offers exceptional service at a good price point, only to have it all go to hell when new owners come in? Well that's exactly what happened with Chip Off the Old Block.

I found COtOB years ago from Yelp, and it was so nice to have them come out and do a full trim and clean of our sizeable yard. They always sent a large crew (4-5 people) that could get all the work done in less than 3 hours, and that included pruning six of our palms as well. We were always satisfied with the condition of our property, as they were fairly thorough with cleanup too. Though they cost a bit more than your average joe landscaper, it was worth it as they do everything. One time, we did hire an average joe who did a full landscape job, but told us he wouldn't haul away the debris. We were left with a 7 foot tall, 40 foot long pile of crap in our front yard, and had no idea how to get rid of it. Thankfully, I ended up calling COtOB and they had it removed in less than an hour. In the end, we didn't really save any money going with another company, so we started using Chip Off exclusively.

That is, until about 3 months ago. We had them send out an estimator to take a look at our palms again, as the seed pods were getting ready to bloom. They wanted $450 to trim six palms, and we remembered it being cheaper in the past. We contacted them to see if there was anything they could do seeing as we had been loyal customers for a few years, but I was told that under the new ownership, prices were set and non-negotiable. I informed them that we had contacted a local landscaper by our house that would do them for $50 each, to which they responded that we should go with that because they won't even take a job unless it's over $400. Really? They didn't even try to keep our business; they simply let a customer spending almost $3k annually go elsewhere. We did end up going with the other landscaper, and they did such a wonderful job for a lot less money, so we hired them on a monthly basis. Thanks Chip Off!

I hate losing that one company that you can depend on to take care of a certain service. I wanted Chip Off the Old Block to always handle my landscaping but it seems the new management doesn't want my business. I wish them luck in the future but they've probably heard the last from me.

After researching several palm tree trimming service companies I decided on Chip off the Old Block mainly from yelp and other site reviews. I called and scheduled a quote with Conrad. He showed up and we discussed what needed to be done and told me it would be $625. I asked if there were any discounts. He responded if I paid cash the price would be $425. He wrote up the agreement with the details we discussed and gave me a copy.

The office called me to schedule an appointment for July 8. A couple days before my appointment I called the office to reconfirm and was told they had to reschedule due to someone in the office had coronavirus and everything had to be rescheduled. If I hadn't called would anyone have called me to reschedule or just be a no show. Set new appointment for July 17.

On July 17 crew showed up looked at my palm trees and said no way they can do the job for the quoted price, one of the crew made a phone call walked around my yard and then just left without further explanation. I called the office and was told the info on the quote was wrong and they will send another person out today to give a revised quote. They would not honor the quote by Conrad. Nolan arrived to give the revised quote and told me more than just trimming had to be done. The quote he gave was a little over $1,000. I questioned this quote and Nolan said he would check with the crew supervisor and or owners to see if they can do better on the quote. He promised to call me back either the same day or the next morning. Here it is 4 days later and no call. Needless to say I have to find another service at the busiest time of year for palm tree trimming.

There are several issues here.

The first quote given by Conrad, made me wander if this was a normal business practice, to give low quotes for cash. What would happen if I paid cash then later I would be sent an invoice stating I had not paid for services. If the owners are not aware of this they need to be made aware that an employee is conducting business this way.

The next issue is if I had not called to reconfirm the original date would anyone have contacted me to reschedule. From this experience I doubt they would have.

When Nolan promised he or someone would call me the same day or next morning and 4 days later no calls, I question their standards in regards to proper customer service.

In summary, I suspect deceptive business practices by the person who gave the original quote. An outrageous second quote, and poor customer service in regards to me not being called back as promised. Buyer Beware this company did not treat me well.

Their prices are good and they do an excellent job. Been using them for palm trees, ficus, elms, jacaronda, and mulberry for many years. They do have a $600 minimum, so if you only have a few palm trees you'll need to go somewhere else. Jack is their on-site estimator, go-to guy, and a really good guy. Very responsive to everything we need, and very available. They are punctual, and call before they come. They carry hefty insurance so you don't need to worry there. Never had any problem or damage. He advised that some work I had wanted to request be handled at a different time of year and scaled down the scope of what needed to be done in the short term. Very pleased to recommend this company! Took down a palo Verde tree and replaced it with an ocotillo. Recognized that blue stake was needed before removing the tree stump. Helped me organize that. While during a 10 year period of time, the previous ownership was wonderful to deal with, the current owners are not. The moment they purchased this company they increased their fees from an average of 200 for a completed job to 400 just to show up for 1 hour with fee increasing incrementally from there. While my tree is very large and has required 3 to 4 trimmings per year which is out of the ordinary, they gave me a better deal with the old ownership due to frequency. Mind you the most I ever paid For the tree trimming service each time in total was 175 to 250 depending on what I needed done. Repeated attempts to speak with the new owners about a more reasonable fee due to my loyalty for 10 years went on deaf ears. Additionally 6 other people on my block and in my neighborhood have used their services as a result of my recommendation. This company even had the audacity to send me a text message and call me directly saying that they wanted additional business And offered a coupon for a free evaluation. When I called them and discussed It (not fewer than 4 times) again this went on deaf ears with the new ownership. Repeated promises to call me back. While I had plans for my regular landscaper to trim the tree next week and had already paid them, with yesterday's storm I lost my tree completely and it fell on a car. I cannot stress strongly enough how non responsive this company is and that their failure to recognize that the average person cannot or will not pay an arborist the same amount that you would pay a physician to care for your health. It is ludicrous to think that they can double their fee completion just to show up for one hour and treat people so horribly. They have had multiple times to reach out but have not. Each time that I was promised that they would, they did not. DO NOT GIVE YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY TO THE NEW OWNERS!

I had a very large, difficult, pine tree and two smaller trees, that needed to be cut down. I also had another very large tree that needed to have weight removed. I talked to two companies who said they couldn't do the job because it was too difficult. A contractor here for another job recommended Chip Off The Old Block. Anthony came at the designated time to give me a quote. This morning, Umberto, Manuel, and their team showed up a few minutes early, looked over the job, and went to work. These guys were amazing! I can't say enough great things about them. They were professional, friendly, careful of the fence, my neighbor's pool, neighboring trees, and my garden. They worked quickly and efficiently, demonstrating great team work. They piled up the wood I wanted to keep and filled my compost with wood chips. They cleaned up EVERYTHING! They even cleaned up what fell in my neighbor's yard. These guys did a great job and were worth every penny. I give them my highest recommendation.

I called for a quote for trimming 2 palm trees and was very clear about what I wanted while setting up the quote appointment. When the worker arrived, I was told there was 600.00 minimum and 2 trees was not enough. They talked me into removing one of the trees and trimming the other to the tune of 750.00. I was told someone from the office would call me for payment. After 2 days, I called them to make the payment. I was then able to set a date for the work but they were unable to give me a time and would call me back. I finally had to call, the day before the appointment, to get a time frame. On the day of the appointment, the workers were rude and put off by the fact that they had to cut down the tree and trim the other, even though it was written on the work order. They moved things from my patio into the middle of the yard, didn't put them back, and knocked the dog's foam bed into the pool and left it without telling me. When it came time to have the stump ground I purposefully scheduled with them on a day I'd be home. Again, they couldn't give me a time frame and showed up a day early, when I wasn't home, to complete the work and left a bunch of debris behind. The woman who answers the phone is curt and borders on rude. I WOULD NOT use them again!

We used Chip off the old Block in the past and were always pleased with their work. We hired them to take down 2 trees and they came quickly and did a great job. We're only giving them three stars because it took them 2 1/2 weeks to return to remove the stumps plus their communication about scheduling the stump work was poor as well as their stump equipment broke down twice. HOWEVER, the worker they sent to remove the stumps was phenomenal. His name was Carey. He was a hard worker, very positive and upbeat and did such a nice job.

We paid top dollar for two trees and three shrubs to be pruned. Seemed like a good job, however after we got to looking at it we found the oleander required about another hour of work! $665.00 including a generous tip (on a fixed income), in hind sight seems a bit much to have to go back and clean up after the fact! We will explore other tree services next time!

Stay away from this company. They are not sending certified arborist to estimate or examine trees like they advertise. The person who came to look at my trees explained my citrus trees had a citrus greening disease and told me to call the state to have the trees examined and removed as this is a highly contiguous disease and the state is trying to protect the citrus industry. I called the state dept of agriculture and was told that disease does not exist in the phoenix area and i should seek a different arborist.

However prior to learning that i hired them to trim my other trees, thin them out, remove dead wood and shape them.

I was given time estimates for their arrival as my dog needed to be contained in the house while the work. They arrived the at completely different times than scheduled and then were upset the dog wasnt locked up and couldnt perform the work

When they finally did the work, the quality of workmenship was subpar. Dead branches left, trees not shaped. This is the worst company i have ever had and the price was 4 times as much as i have paid other non certified arborist companies!

If you've used this company before and were satisfied you would probably be as surprised as I was with the quality of the service I received or should I say didn't receive. The ownership and the quality of the service has dramatically changed and not in a good way. I have been lied to, received incomplete service and overall a very unpleasant experience. I will never be using them again and hope I have saved someone else from a bad experience. This has been going on for over a month no one cares.

The team that came out to cut down a very tall palm tree did a very good job. A week later Ralph showed up to take out the palm tree stump as well as another one. Ralph was very friendly and did a great job taking out the stumps being very careful to protect our home from projectiles. Communication with the office was not as good as expected as I had to contact them to a couple of times to find out when they would be returning to remove the tree stumps. I recommend this company and personnel, although the the prices did seem higher than the last time I used them.

They then stated they would swing back and would give a courtesy call thirty minutes before arrival. I waited all day and never received a call. I have stuck with this company for a while as I have 4 homes that I would like to be able to stick with one company on. This company with Conrad and Frenando giving quotes started out OK, although Frenando quoted twice the price of Conrad but after a few missed appointments and now when I call them back for tree trimming, they have raised their price by almost 25% since I am a current customer. I have told them to take a hike!!! There are so many other reputable companies out here in the valley wanting business that can do just as good or better.. Do not recommend this company at all!!!! 1st job will be decent price, after that, RIPP OFF!!.. Do not recommend.

Now I just got off the phone with Conrad and he was so very rude and said if I want to go with another company , go for it!! He really did not want to speak with me and was very rude. I asked to speak with the owner but he said the owner is not really involved with the business and lets them run it. Must be great to have soo much business that you can be rude and run current and potential customers away.

Supervisor would not do the work I discussed with the estimator. I called the office and the estimator and they called the supervisor, but he still refused to do it. The supervisor just didn't want to work a full day. So they worked for 4 hours and 20 minutes instead of the 8 hours that was scheduled. I did get a reduced rate after talking with the office at the end. The work they did was well done, but this was more stressful than it needed to be.

I hate to echo Mark W's sentiments but our job was extremely rushed as well. We contacted COTOB to take out a tree in our front yard and grind the stump and trim a palm in our backyard. Scheduling was quick and easy. On the day of our appointment, one team came out to take care of the tree in the front and another team showed up to do the palm.

First team did a good job (although we did receive a follow up phone call asking if they left one of their blowers there which seemed a little odd) but the second team FLEW through trimming the palm which resulted in palm fronds taking out a number of my plants and breaking a sprinkler which prevented me from turning on my sprinklers for a few days which in the dead of summer isn't exactly ideal. (We called them immediately afterwards and they agreed to send out a sprinkler specialist so I have to give them credit for that but it should have been avoided in the first place.) My biggest concern with the palm trimming was the intensity in which they were throwing the palm fronds onto our electrical wires. We live in South Scottsdale and can see all of our neighbors lines very easily and our neighbors' lines were shaking nearly as much as ours.

We had a tree that needed to be removed. It was near our block fence and the root system was beginning to cause misalignment. Joe the estimator from Chip Off the Old Block explained that a 4-man crew would begin at the top and remove branches to safely remove the tree. A rather generous estimate was proposed and we explained that we were willing to pay for a quality job. Instead, one man took a chain saw immediately to the trunk, while a second man climbed onto the top of our fence behind the tree, presumably to prevent the tree from falling the wrong direction. Within two minutes, the tree was felled in a straight line away from the fence and directly into another tree breaking multiple branches. No ladders or ropes were present, and no harnesses were used. Chip Off the Old Block lied about the method used to remove the tree. Chip Off the Old Block used unsafe practices causing unnecessary damage to another tree, and potentially to our block wall. This was not a quality job.

Fantastic service! The quote was beyond reasonable for the work performed. This included 5 stumps removed, around a dozen palms, and 4 cypress trimmed and skinned. The yard looks fantastic. They were timely, efficient, and cleaned up very well.
There are other quality tree services in the Valley, but these guys are exactly as all the other reviews say: Exceptional.

I am very happy with Chip off the Old Block. Jack, the manager, came to give me a free estimate on removing 3 bothersome trees. His price was very fair, and we decided on a day. The 4 employees came early and were efficient and focused. They had the trees removed and shipped in 30 minutes. They also blew away years of debris that had accumulated from the trees. The workers were very polite and considerate. I will be happy to recommend this company to anyone!

Scheduled apointment more than 2 weeks in advance (with Nick) & requested their most experienced person & copy of their insurance. Did not e-mail insurance & when we called he informed us they would be sending a different arborist. E-mailed insurance 1 1/2 days before appointment. Took off work & they did NOT show! Called 40 minutes after scheduled time & said they were not coming because tied up with another job across town ( 1 hr away ). When reminded of scheduled appointment was told : his hands were tied. Poor scheduling, poor customer service. At a minimum they should have called when they knew they could not keep appointment. Will not get our business!

Really disappointed in their service. I made an appointment two weeks ago for a tree trimming service today and just got a call about them cancelling because one of the crew didn't show up for work. Extremely inconvenient as I work during the week full time and have dogs so access to the yard isn't ideal on a weekday. This is after the estimator had to be rescheduled due to someone not showing up and a phone call earlier this week about my Tuesday appointment (which i didn't have) needing to be cancelled and rescheduled.

I had a dead tree and an overgrown olive tree in my front yard. I contacted 3 companies via Yelp to obtain quotes. COTOB's response was within a couple of hours and they were able to send someone out the next day to provide an estimate.

The gentleman who came out was friendly and professional and only took a few minutes to provide the cost estimate for the tree removal, stump grind and tree trim. He was also able to schedule me the next business day to complete the work.

The crew was also friendly and professional. I couldn't believe how clean they left the yard. There were no remnants of dead tree, wood chips or tree branch debris left about the yard.

The cost came in between the other 2 companies I contacted. Although not the cheapest, my initial interaction with the company gave me a very good feeling and the cost was still reasonable ($100 lower than the highest quote). They also had good review last here in Yelp. I would highly recommend them!!

Then we had a dying citrus tree and two very large dead branches from two trees that neede to be cut down. The guys showed up and were very courtious and we showed them the trees that needed cutting. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!!!!! This company does not take responsibility for damage their workers cause. They trimmed a tree in our neighbors used and when a large branch landed in our pool they don't care that the branch left a joke in our pool liner. The neighbor was very disappointed in their service. Now we have to take them to court to get this resolved. They lie and tell you one thing and don't follow through. Please be aware and find a reputable company that will stand by their work. I would have given them 0 stars if it was an option. You can't talk with the GM, as he is not available to customers. He makes Nick handle all the problems without talking to you directly.

Highly disappointed!!!

After reading a few reviews both good and bad I decided to give them a try... Bad choice. They emailed me the day I contacted them(which was great) saying they could do a drive by since the tree I was inquiring about was in my front yard and they would call me with a quote after they drove by. A time and date was set up for them to drive by my house and take a look and I figured I would get a call either later in the day or the following day. Well here we are 1wk later and still no call or email. I am highly disappointed because I was hoping some of the prior reviews were wrong. I guess they don't need money so my husband and I will be taking our business elsewhere.

I have a sissoo that was in dire need of trimming. A certified arborist named Jack diagnosed what needed to be done. He recommended the crown clearing and have the tree grow more stronger by strategic pruning. If you decide to use them then the fee that the arborist charged for his advice will be deducted from the final price. I called and they had a crew the next day without me being there. I talked with Irene and she made the process so easy, she's the best! Came home to find my tree looking marvelous and thanks to the crew for cleaning up! The positive reviews really helped me decide to use Chip off the old block, they're simply the best in the business!

Bummer. Based on other reviews, I had high hopes. I would have liked to try out the service, but seems like they're having some challenges in the office.

In essence - No Call. No Show.

Called to request an estimate on a Monday morning (after getting no response for 3 days after filling out their web contact form). It was easy and pleasant enough. We set an appointment for Thursday between 2-5p. So far, so good.

A couple hours later I see I have a missed call from the Chip-Off-the-Old-Block office. No message. So, I call back and give them my name. They ask if I have a trimming that day or something... general confusion. I talk to 2 separate people and what seemed to be a manager, who then confirmed my address and time for Thursday. OK. Odd, but still fine.

After rearranging my afternoon on Thursday, I wait... and wait... and wait... Nothing. No call. No show. I'm thinking, Did I give them wrong information?, but then I realize, no, they definitely have my # (they called me before) and they reconfirmed my address...

I'm sure I must have slipped through the cracks or been dropped in some kind of administrative snafu - or maybe they were just too busy. Your mileage may vary, but it's like going into a retail store - if they don't have time for you, might as well shop somewhere else.

I had a huge tree and not much space in my backyard, they had to maneuver around our pool and landscaping to get to it. They did a wonderful job and cleaned my yard up nicer than it was before they got there! Everyone was so friendly and answered all my questions about the stump and grinding or killing it with chemicals. (I went with just grinding it down based on the information they gave me). I highly recommend them for their service, speed and friendliness!

** THESE ARE THE GUYS FOR YOUR TREE NEEDS!! **

First time I used this company and the experience was great. I have a large tree that was in need of serious pruning as I could not get up that high into the tree. We had used a local service to take down a Mesquite a few weeks earlier that had split in half in the front yard. We were overcharged because that guy knew we were desperate ($600.00)... AND he left me a mess of shavings!!

Why I didn't think of Als - We're your tree's pals .... heard that radio spot for years. Had no idea they were still around and called Chip Off The Old Block - a friend referred them to me. Someone came right out, estimated the tree for 125.00 and did the best trimming and shaping of that tree that it ever had. Fast, efficient and cleaned everything up beautifully.

Will use again and HIGHLY recommend this company. Just wish they did yard cleanup and lawn overseeding!

I found Chip Off the Old Block on Angie's List and they had very good reviews there.

I had some wind damage to some high limbs on a mature sweet acacia. The limbs looked like they could come down on my neighbors roof. Someone came out within a few hours of calling them to give me an estimate and the crew showed up a few hours after that.

They did have to take quite a bit of the upper limbs off to re-shape the tree after the broken limbs were removed but I'm confident everything will grow back and fill in.

Good work, and they cleaned up so well that you'd have to notice that the tree was trimmed to even know they were here.

I have used this company twice. The first time was a few months ago for removing a tree in the back yard. The second time was just a few day ago trimming and pruning another tree in my front yard. I am very happy with their service both times. The whole process was always consistently easy and smooth. There service is really professional. They are on time, do great work, and clean up nicely after the work done.

I was so comfortable with their first service that for the second time, I don't even see the crew in person. The whole process was done on the phone. I called the office. They sent someone to do an estimate, The estimator called me and told me what needs to be done to the tree, when the crew would be out to perform the work, and the cost for doing the work. The crew came out and did the work without me home. I came back to look at the work. The office called back the next day to ask me if I am happy with the work (yes I was) and took the payment.

Another important note is that their price is very reasonable compare to other quotes I got from others.

I am very happy with Chip Off The Old Block, and I will keep using them in the future.

Couldn't have asked for a more positive experience! Conrad was able to come out for an estimate and to diagnose the issues with three large, older trees in my front yard. He was professional, knowledgeable, and very nice to talk to. Ricardo and his team were able to come out and do all the fertilization and work later that same week. I couldn't be more impressed. My trees look great, my yard was cleaned up beautifully, and he even cleaned up piles of bougainvillea clippings that I hadn't yet got around to picking up! The price was right and the work was exceptional. Will definitely recommend and use again in the future.

Truly disappointing experience. A simple task of trimming and shaping my Ficus tree turned into a three week affair. The estimate process was pain free. The crew came and went on the requested date and were very clean, leaving no debris behind. Unfortunately the trimming and shaping was a joke. I took pictures and offered to send them the the office, instead they wanted to send a representative to look at it. Fair enough. We rescheduled a crew to finish the job. They arrived on time, but rang the doorbell and asked my wife their purpose of being there. My wife called me at work, I advised her to tell the crew to call the supervisor. Too many cooks in the kitchen are never a good thing. They did some trimming and again left the tree with a ridiculous shape. I called them again. After some back and forth, I decided this was taking too much of my time and not worth it. I called them and they agreed on a reduced fee to cover the work on other trees that was ok. Although the reduced fee was fair, I really just wanted the Ficus tree cut snd not deal with the back and forth hassle. I will say they did remain friendly during the entire drawn out process. I probably will not be using them again.

I found Chip Off the Old Block on Yelp a few weeks ago and hired them to have my pecan tree trimmed. This thing was totally overgrown and I just wasn't able to find the time to prune it, let alone do it correctly.

They promptly returned my inquiry with a phone call and sent an arborist out to my home quickly to evaluate the tree for an estimate. After receiving estimates from a few other companies in the area, Chip Off the Old Block came in about $100-$150 cheaper and they were able to schedule a time to do the work faster than anyone else.

Needless to say the tree looks fantastic, it was not over trimmed, and I couldn't be happier with my experience. I highly recommend these guys and will continue to use them in the future.

Lowest cost bid. Timely work and good cleanup. I recommend them.

CoTOB completed removal of 3 large palm trees this week. They were recommended by a neighbor. I received a bid from Nick who was helpful and was the lowest cost bid.
The cut crew came on time were courteous. They completed work and the grind crew arrived just after they finished. Grind crew reminded us that dripper lines might be damaged and that was not their responsibility which I think is understandable and standard. They completed work in an hour and left the area well cleaned up. When bringing in the grinder they damaged the pool skimmer cover but brought it right to our attention. That sold me on them since some companies might not have mentioned it. It was 10year old plastic and $15 to replace so not a big deal.
I would use them again for tree removal and try them for other tree work.

I think I may have the fastest growing trees in all of Arizona. It seems that their entire goal is to grow large enough to touch my roof line and extend into the yards of my neighbors. With the the start of monsoon season, I wanted to have them trimmed before a strong wind sent branches flying, causing damage and generally making me unpopular with the neighbors. :)

After obtaining a few estimates, I chose Chip off the Old Block. Jack, a certified arborist, clearly explained what needed to be done to my trees and didn't try to upsell me on anything I didn't need (i.e. fertilizer treatments, etc.). While his bid was not the lowest, he agreed to meet the price I received from another company that was also fully insured. Also, he was able to accommodate my travel schedule and have a crew at my house the following day, which was appreciated.

The crew of three arrived (complete with a wood chipper!) a little earlier than scheduled, which was great. They quickly got to work, and both of my trees were back in shape in a little over an hour. They gathered each and every branch, including the ones that fell into my neighbor's yard. Compared to other tree trimmers I have used, they did a better job in significantly less time!

So, when the trees grow out of control again (and they will) I know who to call to keep them on my side of the fence.

When people come over to remove a large palm tree in your yard you'd assume they'd leave quite a mess in their wake at the very least. These guys not only were able to cleanly remove my tree in a very quick and efficient manner, but they left my yard looking better than it was before they'd arrived! Very good competitive prices and an astounding amount of politeness and pleasantness from each and every employee that showed up today. This is the first time I've used a tree service company and I am so glad the first people I called hit the mark so perfectly! My yard looks so much better without that bothersome tree! Thank you!

I NEVER write reviews on the internet, however this company is so FABULOUS I just feel the need to rave about them. We received an estimate on March 14th, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. to remove and stump grind an 22 Acacia Willow. The first crew arrived promptly at 9:00 a.m the next day. They were finished with the removal in less than an hour. Our property was left without one bit of debris. The stump grinding crew arrived less than an hour later. They were finished in 15 min. GREAT pricing! QUICK removal! BETTER THAN GREAT customer service! I would highly CHOTB this to family and friends.

This company is a joke to work with. They missed their first appointment to come out an do an estimate.

When the estimator did come to our home the following week, he was very pleasant and provided us with an acceptable quote that was agreed upon. The estimator gave us a time window of 9:00 am - 10:00am for the following weekend and told us that we would receive a call the following business day to confirm, which it was.

Today, I placed a call to inquire the status of the arborist's arrival. I was told that the crew wouldn't be available to arrive until 12:00pm or 1:00pm. I was offered an additional 10% discount for the error in arrival which I agreed to. At 1:30pm, I placed another call to inquire the status and was then told it would be another 45ish minutes.

At this point, I asked to cancel the service and the phone rep proceeded to tell me that they never make time commitments and that it should have never happened. While I can certainly understand that this may be his policy, commitments were in-fact made by his staff and they were not met.

I don't think it's reasonable for any company to not give you a time window especially for a 6-7 hour job. Even Cox and Qwest are able to give you a 4 hour window.

I will also say the Owner, Al your tree pal, did give me a call personally to find out how to retain our business. He stated that he has been working in the Valley for over 30 years and this isn't how he runs his business. While I can respect that, his company and crew have now wasted my time and had lost my business. I declined to reconsider my cancellation.

There are too many other arborists' in town that I'm sure would be happy to take my money and provide me service in a timely fashion.

I would recommend to anyone that you stay away from this business.

Professional, prompt service. We got a quote on Friday to take out a large tree in the backyard that was dying. There was not much difference in the price we had the received from another company except Chip Off The Old Block included chipping and removing the tree.
The office called Monday morning to confirm the crew was on their way, and they arrived shortly after. Obviously these guys knew what they were doing. The first guy climbed into the tree and methodically cut until there was nothing left but a trunk. He knew how to bring it down so that the pieces fell right where he wanted them to. I was very impressed. The rest of the crew cut and dragged everything to the chipper in the front of the house so proficiently that they were completely done in less than 2 hours. The area was totally cleaned when they left and we are very happy with their service. We will definitely call them again when we need any type of tree service. I would highly recommend them.

Four guys just left that did an excellent job of thinning out 10 of our trees in the medium range (a few large). The guys that did the job (I will use initials only so the company will know who they are) were Um, Fr, Jo and Te. Rarely do I call from a mailer. In this case I received their mailer and called. Nick came over on Saturday morning, gave me an estimate and I said let's get it scheduled. He was quick and really knew his subject matter as a Certified Arborist. Today the 4 guys arrived around 11am and worked for 2 solid hours. They had professional equipment including a truck with a chipper mounted to it.

They were very professional, courteous and really cared about how I felt a s a customer. Um walked the job with me prior to doing any work to ensure we agreed and I was happy with what they intended to do.

This company cares about Total Customer Satisfaction! The clean up was outstanding. I would recommend COTOB Tree Services to anyone who wanted their trees to look like they supposed to look.

Thank you for coming out on time and doing such quality work at a reasonable price. When I say reasonable, I apply it to the professionals these guys are. Yes many guys will drive the neighborhoods and offer to trim your trees, but most of them just trim and hack. They do not thin them out and get them healthy as they should be. This is what was done by COTOB team for me today.

They were quick and easy to work with. A gentleman came out for a survey and told me exactly what was needed regarding my tree in my backyard. He quoted me and scheduled it right away. I was travelling at the time, so I returned with the tree already done and they did a fantastic job and even cleared all the dead brush underneath. I can't speak for pricing as I didn't really shop around much, but it was worth it in my opinion.

Excellent company! Charles came out promptly and on time to give an estimate. I had an old estimate from COOB but even though there was now more work to be done on a few trees he stayed close. He made recommendations for trimming regarding the health of the trees. What was possible or not.

I wasn't sure if I was going to have two very tall palms removed or just trimmed so he gave estimates on both and also trimming my neighbors trees over the fence line. My big concern was damage to my neighbors trees and cleanup in their yards. Luckily my neighbors were agreeable to allowing the workers into their trees instead off trimming from my yard. So they could do a more balanced trim. I removed the backyard Palm trees and added trimming the front Palm trees. The 4 man crew came out on time, reviewed the job with me and got right to work. It was amazing how fast they were removing the palms and getting to work on trimming other trees. They covered Malibu lights with Garbage cans to prevent damage, lowered large cuts by rope. They wouldn't even have me move a clay pot about a foot from the palm removal and not damage to it. I didn't grind the stumps but they got them cut within 2 inches of the ground. I even asked the crew boss if they could try to cut them level at the base so I could put pots on them and they got very close. They did not have to do that for me, but they tried their best.

Cleanup was incredible! I asked for particular attention to my neighbors yards and they delivered. Neighbors were pleasantly surprised. My front and back yards were meticulously cleaned. The whole time the team was personable and professional. One worker even got back in his harness to climb a tall Palm again just to better skin a trunk that I noticed even though I said it was no big deal. From my experience this is a quality, customer oriented company.

Common Sense rule #1... Never ever pay for something sight unseen. After their 1st visit tree was still touching the neighbors tree as well as a lot was left untrimmed. Not sure how they would call this job completed?. After 1 week from the 1st trimming they did come out and get the job done right, the 2nd time.

I'm very disappointed with their reliability. They have provided me service several times before and have been prompt, reliable, and did quality work. The quote this time was prompt and came as scheduled. However, last week they were scheduled to come out to do the work and I had requested them to come early AM if possible. I contacted them once and got an ETA, then several hours later they notified me they were on an emergency and needed to reschedule. They were rescheduled for today. I received a call at 3PM saying their truck had a problem and needed to reschedule. I've spent two days waiting for them and can't continue with that type service. I'm so sad.

Three years ago, I used a landscaping company to trim up a gigantic, out-of-control mesquite in my yard. I know a thing or two about pruning trees and I wasn't very excited about the work they did. They were a bunch of chainsaw-wielding butchers as far as I was concerned. But the price was right at the time

This year, I decided to spend a little more and use an arborist who knew more about trees than your average landscaper. Chip Off the Old Block's postcard arrived at the right time. I called on a Friday, their man came out on a Saturday to give me an estimate, he scheduled the job for Monday, and when I came home from work my tree was perfectly trimmed and the yard around it was spotless.

Although their price was 25% higher than what I paid the landscaper a few years ago, their work was vastly superior and I wouldn't hesitate to use them again.

What matters to me most when service providers make mistakes, and they will be made, is that the people within that company admit their error, apologize and make it good.

COOB let the ball drop when a tree tipped over in my backyard. The arborist who came to see it said it was salvageable. Sadly when I tried to schedule the team to come out and do the work as quoted no one returned my calls and within a week the beautiful Palo Verde I planted 3 years ago was dead.

COOB team members immediately owned the mistake and apologized for it.

The company ended up agreeing that a replacement tree was their only way to make this good.

So, although I have to try to be patient as the new tree catches up to the rest of my landscaping, at least I still have trust in COOB and will use their services again in the future.

September 2015. We needed to get a 30+ foot dying pine tree completely removed from curbside, right by a masonry block wall. Chip Off the Old Block was happy to compete with other quotes we received and beat two other local companies' prices. They showed up on time to view the tree and give us an estimate. On the scheduled removal day, they arrived as scheduled, removed the tree quickly and without hassle. They ground the stump so quietly we didn't know they had even done it. And they cleaned up everything from the tree removal quickly and quietly. If we ever have tree trimming or removal needs in the future, this is the company we will be calling. COTOB gave us a quote, didn't show on scheduled date for trim, after a week another company trimmed the tree, a week later COTOB showed, came to the door and asked who had trimmed the tree. We told them and a month later COTOB called erquesting a 200 dollar payment. Unfortunately my aging mother answered the phone and gave them her credit card number which they charged. They did not trim the tree, but collected their fee.

I'm really torn about this company and not sure if I'll use them again. Let me explain...

I called from a mailer I received at a time that I was concerned with two Tipu trees. My mature front yard Tipu was drastically dropping leaves and my young Tipu in the backyard was leaning over really bad... looked like the tree was made of soft rubber. I tried staking them myself with stakes I bought but they didn't do much good.

I was given a day and 4 hour window to have someone come out and survey the trees. Dante arrived as scheduled, was very friendly, professional and seemed very knowledgable. He found that my large Tipu in my front yard was being attacked by beetles which would require some sort of barrier and that it may also need deep fertilizing. The small, younger Tipu in my back yard needed larger bull stakes and strategic trimming to fix the lean. He quoted what I felt was a rather high amount but I figured I can do it right with an arborist or take my chances with a landscape company and possibly pay more in the end, so I chose Chip Off the Old Block.

Dante scheduled the workers to arrive that Saturday. First, a crew of 5 arrived that Saturday but the gentleman who came to my door knew nothing about staking the small tree, only that they were to trim the tree. They spent about 4 minutes trimming and they were gone. A short time later, a gentleman arrived to deep fertilize the large tree. I asked him about the beetle protection, and he knew nothing about it. He was then gone within two minutes.

I then received a call Monday from the company's billing person asking me to pay. I explained that all of the work had not yet been completed. She took the information and said she'd get people out to finish the job.

Over the next couple days, someone came out to stake my small Tipu while I was at work (no notice of when they would arrive). Turns out they did stake the tree and did a great job but they took the stakes that I had purchased at a home improvement store. Only $15 for the two cedar stakes but why are they taking my property?? I then received a call later that day from someone saying they were at my house to take care of the beetle protection for the large tree. I can only assume they did something. When I arrived home, there was no evidence of anything being done but to be fair, I don't know if there would be. They said it was some kind of trenching... But I saw no change to the ground around the tree. For this, my tab was $225.

I received another call for billing and when I told them my stakes had been taken from my property, the billing agent, a gentleman this time, asked me how much they cost me. I told him $15 which was true and he said, ok.. How about we take $10 off the bill? By this time, between the crews having to come out multiple times, receiving no notice of when those crews would return and having my property taken, I'm sitting there thinking why are you offering me $10 off for stakes that cost me $15? Do stakes depreciate in value once they leave the store? I could have used them on other, smaller plants or trees. Now it's just the principle at this point and it was actually a bit insulting.

Service doesn't have to be perfect but fixing issues properly goes a long way with me. For what I paid for literally 10 minutes of work total between everything that was done... You be the judge.

Wish I had known they were CRAP before I paid the money. The customer service manager needs....customer service training. I asked for a service that I NEVER received! I wouldn't recommend this company at all. I called and requested an estimate on a Tuesday afternoon and was told an estimator would come by the next day and do a drive by estimate. I was told they would leave the quote on the door or call me with it. Two days went by and no quote or phone call. I called Friday and inquired and was told the estimate wasn't scheduled (no explanation why it wasn't) and they could come out the next day. I said it wouldn't be necessary as I wouldn't hire this company to trim my trees if they can't even schedule or complete a simple estimate.

Excellent work by Chip Off the Old Block! I called them to have a tree removed that was broken by a storm. The estimator came out within 3 hours and quoted me $425 to have it removed. I agreed and the crew was onsite within 2 hours and had it done and cleaned up very well in about 30 minutes. Another guy came by an hour later and removed the stump with a grinder. Once again, quick work, excellent job, and good cleanup! It was worth the money to have it taken care of quickly.

I've been using Chip off the old Block for years, and have always been impressed by the quality of their work. Just today, I had another great tree trimming service and felt compelled to leave a long overdue review. As I've come to expect, they have a deep bench and can usually complete services within a few days of calling. I called on Wednesday; the estimate was completed on Thursday; and the tree trimming was completed on Friday. The crew arrived on time and Carlos, the lead, walked through our property with me to go over the work order and confirm the details. As he and his three teammates completed each tree they asked for my approval. I had some specific requests on a couple of the trees which were resolved beyond my expectations. The property was left completely clean, and I was most impressed when one of the crew members picked up a pile of bougainvillea trimmings left earlier that day by my lawn service. I will continue to use Chip off the old Block for all my tree needs.

We have used Chip Off the Old Block twice now and both experiences have been great!

They have removed a rather large (taller than the house) dead tree from our yard, trimmed our heavily over-burdened olive tree in the front, and most recently trimmed our 5 palm trees for us.

The prices were reasonable both times and they have arrived as scheduled for both appointments and for the appointments to give quotes as well! I value a company that values our time as well!

They have always given knowledgeable recommendations about the trees in our yard (when asked) and not been overly pushy to do work that we are not interested in having done. I know that a lot of the trees in our yard need much more help--so I admire the fact that they have not tried to sell us on services that we are not currently interested in.

For us, and I'm sure for many, the real problem comes down to balancing our budget against what needs to be done in the yard. We have big plans to continue trimming and improving the health of the plants in our yard; and anytime we are ready to have this work done we will certainly be calling on Chip Off the Old Block. They have not let us down yet. Reliable, trustworthy, and kind enough to work within our budget!

Due to roots infiltrating next door neighbors plumbing I agreed (sadly, I might add) to get rid of my 30 year old tree.

I received a call from this company one day, used to be called Al's tree and yard service, and they were following up on previous customers wondering if I needed to have my trees and bushes trimmed. In fact I did, because I had contacted two other companies, arranged for estimates and then they never showed up. This is the second time I've had Chip Off the Old Block come to trim a tall, fast-growing mesquite that partially overhangs my neighbors' yard. And it's the second time I've received great service.

Jack gave me a prompt and fair estimate with no up-selling. He was happy to answer lots of questions I asked about other trees on my property--without trying to work them in for additional fees.

The three-man crew arrived on time, were friendly, worked quickly and carefully, and cleaned up both my yard and my neighbor's yard better than they looked before the job began.

They do great work. I've had them come out twice now over the past year and a half. I've been happy with their work each time. Jack who comes out to give you an estimate is a certified arborist. They show up on time and each time performed the work the next day. All trimmings and wood disposed of in their chipper. Prior to using them I was having our landscaper trim the tree with mixed results and I am glad that i have made the switch.

I used this business a couple months ago to do my three HUGE bottle trees. The price was $225.00 for each tree. I thought the price was high but I had their coupon so we gave them the job. They did an adequate job of trimming these huge trees so I thought I would call them again to quote cleaning up my average size olive tree and a palm tree. The palm tree quote was $75 which was a standard price but the quote was $350 for the olive tree!! Inconsistent pricing makes me think this is just an estimator trying to rip me off. There are too many other tree services to bother with this company.

We received a post card from them so we called to get an estimate. We had 1 dead tree that needed to be removed and then our other trees needed trimming. They gave us a great price (we did get one other quote that was higher). They also were on time, gave us great customer service and did the work in a timely manner. We had Conrad come out and he was great! They even came back to trim two of the trees again that needed just a little bit more cut that were hanging over our neighbors yards. Overall they did a great job and I would highly recommend them.

This was the third time we used the Chip Off the Old Block service for the annual trimming of our trees. The first time I would have given them five stars, the second time down to four stars, and now three stars. Communication after the initial meeting with the arborist was non-existent --- I didn't get a return phone call with a question I had and then information that he and I discussed was not passed on to the crew that came to do the work. In the past it was always easy to identify the leader of the crew, but not so much this time. I will say that they did a fantastic job on our trees but the trimming of bushes was rushed and not very good. Since no one seemed to be in charge, there wasn't anyone checking the work before they left. Their service isn't inexpensive but in the past I always felt I got value for what they did. This time I'm not so sure and will shop around when it's time to have our trees trimmed again.

Chip Off the Old Block was absolutely FANTASTIC, FANTASTIC, FANTASTIC!!! We received a written estimate the day after we placed our initial telephone call, the workers showed ON TIME, worked quickly, and cleaned up beautifully!! Also, they were very reasonably priced as well. We would most definetely recommend them!!

They did an outstanding job of removing a large pine tree from our back yard. Cost was very reasonable ($750.00). They left the yard very clean and the work was completed in @ 2 hours. Crew was friendly and very efficient. Worth every penny. Will use them again if the need arises.

I was happy to give this company a try after seeing their reviews, but they charge $75 just to come out and give an estimate. I don't think so! An estimate should be a cost of doing business.

I needed a Sweet Acacia removed and a Palo Verde trimmed. The Sweet Acacia was shedding all over my yard and into my neighbors yard. Both trees were also dripping sap into my driveway and on any car that was parked under them. I contacted about 5 other companies. Conrad came out and gave me a fair quote within the next day. I believed I called on a Wednesday and Conrad's team was able to come out to do the work on Saturday. There was only one other company that gave me a lower bid, but they put me at the bottom of their schedule on Friday. They failed to show up on time so I canceled on them. I decided to go with Conrad and his team. They did a fantastic job. It looks like the Sweet Acacia was never even there and on top of everything they cleaned my whole front yard. (My yard was NASTY before they came, and it looks great now.) I will definitely use Chip Off the Old Block again in the future!

I was given a most acceptable proposal for the removal of several old trees and many bushes on a property I had just purchased. They were able to come in two days and complete the job in 6 or 7 hours, this included grinding the stumps. They were professional and completed the job to my great satisfaction, including the clean up. I would highly recommend them.

WOW - these folks are fantastic. One of my trees looked really bad and was diagnosed as having a virus. The next day, a crew was out to take it down. It was down and removed within minutes and they followed up by grinding the stump. All done very efficiently and with a clean-up that was fantastic. A few weeks later I talked to them about what could be done to save my other trees. They recommended a deep fertilizing, which was completed a day after the discussion. In the meantime, another small tree showed signs of the viral infection. Due to it's size, we were able to take it down, but were left with an unsightly stump. They came to my rescue again - the stump was ground and again, clean up was fantastic. I would highly recommend Chip Off the Old Block!!! And I wouldn't hesitate to call them again!!

after getting two reviews from clearly non-arborists i knew i had to get an insured arborist estimate, knowing it would probably cost me. i emailed this company sunday night, monday at 0757 the scheduler called me back, Jack, an arborist came out at 1030 monday morning. very nice, very honest and knew his trade. he set up an appointment to come tuesday the following day, i said i worked till 1400 and wouldn't be home until 1430. he responded 'we could make that happen'. much to my dismay, i'm not kidding you at 1430 the truck w/ 4 men pulled up. that alone gave me a real sign of relief. in half an hour these men had my two acasia trees trimmed and cleaned up (first trimming of unruly trees, one smaller than the other, both under 30 feet). i watched them do the whole thing. incredible teamwork (wish other establishments had this teamwork/comraderie), they were polite, answered every question i had, they too knew about tree health. i had thought this would be a small job and they wouldn't bother. but they did and i am soooo happy i contacted these folks. highly recommend. oh...here's the kicker. i had cleared some nearby creosote earlier and left some branches off to the side of the tree as i didn't have room in my trash. one gentleman swooped them up and dumped them in their truck/shredder. wow.

Awesome service! Was out of state on business when my wife called me and told me a mesquite tree had blown down and fell on the house we just bought. I called and they had someone out within an hour and we live way out in the west valley. Removed tree, stump grinded, and removed a big pile of green waste I had been piling up on side of house. Prompt, professional, and clean work. Guys did a great job at an outstanding price. Can't recommend enough.

We received a second estimate from another tree excavating company and we're not impressed with the level of knowledge or high estimate provided. Jack, with Chip Off The Old Block, was incredibly knowledgable and his price was reasonable. I was present for the removal of all 6 trees and one large Desert Palm Tree. they pruned a Carob tree that was hanging over our house providing shade, but we were concerned about the lower branches as we head into the monsoons. The 4 man crew was respectful of my presence, asking if I liked the progress of the Carob tree's pruning. They even offered to tidy up the trimmings I left behind as I trimmed a few bushes while they were working. As a female I appreciated how respectful the guys were. The crew of 2 men that arrived 20 minutes after the removal and trimming crew was completed, we're just as competent and respectful. They were charged with grinding the remaining tree stumps of the 7 trees and placing tree killing juice on them, before raking the gravel over them. They too cleaned up the yard before leaving. The co. is fantastic! We will have them return annually to care for the carob tree.

This is the 2nd time I've used Chip Off the Old Block and both times have been very good. The estimator, (wish I got his name), was timely and professional. I had them trim and reduce mesquite trees and they did an excellent job. I have solar panels on my roof and the trees had started to block the panels. In both cases, I would've like the trees to be cut back further, but they said that for the health of the tree, they shouldn't. I suspect many others would've happily cut as much as I wanted and I would've regretted it later, so I appreciated that they did the 'right' thing. I'll use them again.

I got the name of this tree removal service from a neighbor. I called, left a message, they called right back. They had a man out that day to give me a quote for removing a queen palm. The employee was here the next day to cut the tree down. So far so good, right?....he cut the queen palm which fell into my 26 year old Oleander Bush. I saw it, went right out and asked him to please take it out of the bush to which he said oh, the branches will come right back and he continued to saw the other end. The branches did not come back because they are broken. So I have a blank area in the middle of the large Oleander bush which is in the middle of my yard. When the owner came to give me a quote, I had mentioned there were some not so good testimonials out there and he said he didn't care. They do what they do, and that is all they care about. So I didn't bother to call them since he as much as told me they don't care about bad reviews so here I am. The service is good, the work could have been wonderful except for my poor Oleander bush.

My first experience ever with tree maintenance was very positive. I needed to have a palm tree trimmed. When I called, they scheduled a quote appointment for the next day; Donte (who was very professional to work with) arrived within the first hour of the 3-hour window I was given, took the info and said they could have someone out the next day. They called early (before 8 am) the next morning (a Saturday) and said that the crew would arrive at 2 pm. The crew arrived at around 2:20 (which, given that I wasn't their first job of the day, is fine) and did their job well and quickly (around 20 minutes). Without having gotten more than one quote and having talked to only one person about how much I should expect to be charged, I felt the price was reasonable. I'd prefer to give them 4.5 stars rather than 4 or 5 simply because I was told that whoever came to give the quote would call when he was about ready to arrive and he didn't, and also I would have preferred to set the time for the job when I received the quote, and not the morning of the job.
