Daniels Electric

My wife and I hired John Daniels to add lighting and electrical outlets to my cellar way back in 2011. For some reason I never wrote a Yelp back then. I think my wife found them on Yelp.

I had tenants in the house at the time, but that didn't complicate the job.

I got an estimate on the basis of my fairly vague description of the work to be done (four ceiling lights, two switches, and a double outlet on a post). The bid was cheap enough that I didn't look for other bids. The work was good, and all the business was handled easily through e-mail, except for payment at time of service.

I am once again in the market for an electrician, and dug back into my records to find their name so I can ask them for a bid for the next job.

Considering them for another job is about as good an endorsement as it gets, right?

Had a good experience the 1st time, but on the 2nd go 'round, left a VM and NEVER heard back. Business must be good....

I really value the helpful  Yelp reviews which has led me to many fine professionals and services.

While he was very pleasant did a very nice job, I cannot get a response for another appointment from John Daniels even from multiple phone messages left and an email. I couldn't even leave a message several times as his mailbox was full.

After many days of trying, I finally gave up and went with another fine firm that quickly responded and fulfilled my request.

John was very responsive in returning my call when I found out we needed someone present for an electrical inspection at short notice. John was flexible with his schedule, knowledgeable with our situation and fairly priced.

After reading all the rave reviews, I decided to contact Dan, but his voicemail was full. I noticed he included his email address via the web site, so I contacted him via email to let him know I was unable to reach him via phone due to a full box.

It has been over a week, and still no call.

I'll be looking elsewhere for an electrician who is responsive to his potential customers.

John Daniels is the Man.  

This morning my wife wakes me up and tells me that the refrigerator/microwave and nearby outlets are not working.  So, I get up and check the breaker box.  Hmmm, none of the breakers are tripped, but I toggle each of them off and on to be sure.  No joy and I leave for work.

At work, I check out my fellow yelpers reviews regarding local electricians.  Some of the companies, seem on top of things.  A few others, sometimes don't show up for appointments.  Others, appear to be more interested in commercial work.  But the reviews about Daniels Electricians kept me coming back.  John's company is obviously small; however, he has extensive experience and history in the area which suggests that he is good at what he does.

So, I make the call.  John answers and I describe my situation.  He suggests that I check out any GFCI outlets and make sure that none of them are tripped.  Very cool. It turns out that was indeed the issue.

I had a great experience with John Daniels.  He was on time, very personable, and unlike some technicians I've run across, he walked me through his thinking step-by-step.  Would most definitely recommend him to anyone who ever needed an electrician.

As for the negative reviews: they are related to not being able to get an appointment... which I think is indicative of how busy the guy is, due to his otherwise sterling reputation... :)

We woke up one morning and discovered an urgent electrical issue that we needed to have checked out. Unfortunately, it was a Sunday morning and after calling around a couple of the supposedly 24/7 electrical companies,we quickly realized that most of these companies don't even answer the phone outside of business hours. We left multiple voice mails for Mr Electric and never received any callback!

Luckily, I found Daniels Electricians on Yelp. When I called I actually got straight through to John (not a voicemail!) and he offered to re-arrange his Sunday plans just to come out to us asap and look at the problem. John was professional, friendly, and diagnosed the problem promptly.

I was very pleased with my experience of Daniels Electricians, and I would strongly recommend their services.

John was overwhelmed with business. He gave me a bid right away, but I waited for weeks for him to do the work. My project was not an emergency, so that is OK. He did a great job at a great price. I will definitely use him again, he is worth the wait.

Update: For a new project, he did not return my call for quite some time, long after I had given up and used someone else. It seems he is even busier now. I would only consider calling him if you can wait indefinitely.

John Daniels is Daniels Electricians : This is a good thing, I prefer owner operated electricians because you know who are working with and they are vested in the work.

We had John wire up 3 rooms for ceiling lights, he came - he gave us a quote and setup an appointment. He was on time for the appointment, he had all the required items with him, cleaned after himself.

The final amount that I paid was higher than the estimate (by about 7%) but I was ok with that since the work was well done and he did explain why it costed more - The wiring was different than he expected.

John takes cash or checks but no credit cards. He did provide us with a receipt. I would definitely recommend him.

John Daniels was an absolute delight to work with. He was so personable and really made sure that he gave me a fair deal for replacing my Zinsco panel as we are moving out and getting the house ready for sale. He educated me during the bidding process on what needed to happen and next steps. He cleaned up after replacing the panel with no mess to clean up and went above and beyond to also help with a few other outlets and ground an electrical wire with taping on my roof. He was great about returning calls, even while being booked with many other jobs. I would highly recommend him to any friends or colleagues.

Too often, skilled tradesmen are terrible at the basics: showing up when they say they will, getting enough information up front so they can have the right parts, and estimating jobs correctly. John Daniels is good at these basics AND a consummate skilled professional. The fact that he charges reasonable rates is a nice bonus. I will be calling Daniels for all my electrical needs in the future.

John Daniels assisted us when we were in dire need of help. He was wonderful to work with. John was extremely helpful and very knowledgeable in the field. He explained his thought process in a coherent step-by-step manner that was easy to follow along with. We would be very happy to work with him again!

This is actually the 2nd time that I've called them up for electrical issues.  First time was to replace the heaters in the condo unit and 2nd time was to check up on the fuse box after a power outage.  Both times he was nothing but friendly and professional and you can tell he really enjoys the job he's doing and cares about the well beings of the customer.  I would highly recommend him for any of your electrical issues.  

From my experience long as I have a trusted plumber and electrician nothing else in life will faze me.  So I am very happy to say that now I have both, bring on the leaks! just kidding!

Professionalism and a friendly with a reasonable price, definitely give him a call.

Called him in the morning and he was out in the afternoon. Arrived exactly when he said he would. He purchased replacement parts locally, and resolved the problem within an hour. Very reasonable charge. I would hire him again.

John has come out to do work at my home a couple of times now and I have been very happy with every aspect of working with him.  The pricing has been reasonable and he is flexible with scheduling to accommodate busy schedules...though I also feel comfortable enough for him to do work around the house while no one is there.

He is very personable and happy to explain his thinking and the work he is doing.  Each time he comes out I am very happy with the service and feel like I've learned a couple of new things about my house.

John was friendly, professional, and made me feel at ease.  He was tolerant (and even friendly) to my three-year-old son who made noise throughout most of John's work.  His work passed inspection with no problem.

We had a very positive experience with Daniels Electricians.  We recently had a bit of an electrical emergency - burning ozone smell, lights going out, etc.  After the fire department visited and turned off the circuit breaker, we made a call to Daniels after finding them in Yelp.

Despite the early hour we reached John directly on his cell and he was out to our house in short order. He quickly diagnosed the problem (fried power surge protector).  He was also flexible and willing to help with a few miscellaneous electrical tasks around the house that we had been putting off..

In short, we were super happy with John.  He was pleasant, knowledgeable, and his prices reasonable.  Whenever we need an electrician in the future, we'll definitely be calling him.

Thanks to yelp, I found John! He replaced 8 smoke detectors quickly and efficiently. He completed the job for less than his original quote. How is that for his honesty and integrity? Job well done! I will definitely recommend him.

The guy was nice when he did the first mini project. The plan was for him to come back afterwards to finish the job. Problem was...I could never get a hold of him ever. I left several voicemails and felt like he just took my money and left. I'm not surprised others had the problem. Don't expect him to come back if you need help or have problems later.

Called him up on Tuesday and he was out to my house by Friday. I was totally cool with the time frame because it wasn't an emergency. Basically, I had a dishwasher get installed and then a room in my house just randomly lost electricity. He came over around 9:30am and had it all figured out within 2 hours. It wasn't even related to the dishwasher -- was just a coincidence. My old house has freaky weird wiring. :( But John figured it all out and offered to come back to properly install my remaining light fixtures. Very awesome.

John recently installed a generator transfer switch at my home.  He did a great job.  Price was as quoted, he was on time and did very nice work.  This job required some discussion about various circuits that we would like powered by the generator.  John listened carefully to what we wanted and helped identify the correct circuits to power.  Highly recommended.  Why deal with the next guy that comes along when you can deal with the owner of the company?

I had a GFI in our bathroom that was melting and had to shut off the power to that area. Was something I had to get fixed right away and called to get quotes from about 5 places. John gave me the BEST quote almost 1/2 the price of a few places. When he got here we realized that he had worked on our house 9 years ago when he was with another company and we had just started to fix the place up. I remember that he did a great job them also. GREAT service at a very reasonable price.  I am so happy to have an electrician I know I can call and get the job done right at a good and fair price. He came out the next day and fixed the problem. Would highly recommend this company....
