We had HVAC installed 3 years ago. Maybe it was on the higher end price wise but the service was top notch from first call to install.
We get 6 month reminder calls to schedule filter cleanings to keep everything running smoothly and those cleanings are not expensive at all.
A very positive experience for us. Would recommend to family and friends with no hesitation.

Made an appointment for an electrician to come to our house to install an electric outlet in the garage. They gave us a time frame of 2:00-3:00 PM for the electrician. He didn't arrive until 4:30, never calling to say he'd be late. The job took about 30 minutes and they charged us $450. The work was adequate but not great. After he left I found a couple screws laying on the garage floor, presumably dropped by him or his assistant.

I wouldn't use the company again. A couple years ago I had Black Hills install a heat pump and air blower at another house. When they left my house they left a gate to my backyard open and forgot to put a closet door back on that they had removed. My dog got out of my yard through the open gate but fortunately I found him down the street.

Not the way to run a business.

Our furnace blower motor fried, Ryan and a trainee came out, verified the problem and quoted me a price for ~$1000 for a blower motor.  I told Ryan that I'd been looking at replacement blower motors for around $200 on Amazon and other websites that unfortunately cater only to HVAC professionals.  He shook his head and dismissed those Amazon blowers.  Fine, whatever.  I asked if the blower motor model would be on the final emailed invoice, and Ryan said sure. They also tried to upsell me a $300 capacitor to replace the $20 one on my heat pump.  Wtf?

The two technicians were here for 2 hours, total cost $1200 (all of this is on our security cameras).  The motor wasn't on the invoice, so I pulled the model number from the motor itself.  A web search shows a new motor of that model between $120-$150.  So much better than the $200 Amazon ones I looked at, huh Ryan?  Used car salesmen have more scruples than you.

When we called the office to ask for a detailed invoice for hourly work, material cost, etc., we were told they don't calculate per hour.  So how do you calculate it?  Do you look around the environment and estimate the highest financial burden the customer can bear?  Even at 100% markup the blower motor would cost $300 maximum, leaving $900 for the work.  Absolute scum.

We asked to speak to someone in management, and we were told (on a Wednesday morning) that their higher-ups were in a meeting through Friday.  They must be too busy counting their money to deal with customer complaints, it seems.

Black Hills HVAC is a company of deceptive and smug criminals.  Never again will I use this company, and I will absolutely light them up to family, friends, co-workers, and on social media.  They are absolute rip-off artists, and their Google reviews are a sham.

Stay far, far away.

Today a tech came out to service my elderly widowed moms ac they ended up giving her a $7,500 quote to replace her electrical panel.  The tech told my mom that since the panel was not up to code it needed to be replaced.  I explained to my mom that since code is constantly changing, only homes built in the last year or so actually meet the current code. (There was nothing actually wrong or not working in the panel.)  I also consulted a couple of journeymen electricians who told me that the quote is at least twice a fair replacement cost.  This company and their tactics are repugnant.  This is especially true when the intended victim is an elderly widow.

The technician was top notch efficient and friendly.  The fact that we waited all day with little or no information on when the technician would arrive we spent the whole day in the hot house. Technician finally showed up at 5:00 pm. Dispatch need to improve their communication.  Once again the technician Treshon  White-Hayes was exceptional.

Not a company I would recommend hiring, even if you have to wait for service.  Called them to look at an older AC and heating system and recommend repairs and got the most confusing quote I have ever received with a total of 5 different quotes, with each having completely different repairs.

Finally decided on what we wanted done and were ready to give a credit card and have them do the work on what was an empty house so assumed they could just come and do the work.  Due to a policy that makes zero sense they required someone had to be at the house in a window from 8am-12pm, which they didn't show up until 1pm.  I sat in my car the entire time and had zero reason to be there.  I have never worked with a company with this policy.

Avoid this company at all cost.

There is a constant problem with my hvac mini splits. They cannot figure this out. Was promised new filters at 6 months and 1 year- to no avail. Manager is always on vacation. They will not refund my money or figure out what is wrong with the units. Very poor operation. Highly not recommend!!!  Now had to pay an additional amount for future service up front. Will not refund me that as well.
I have never been treated so poorly by a company. This is a lot of out of pocket. Do NOT USE THIS COMPANY!! THEY SEND OUT PEOPLE THAT HAVE ONLY WORKED THERE FOR A COUPLE OF MONTHS. THEY HAVE NO CLUE EITHER WHY THIS IS HAPPENING. THEY WOULD NOT.

Do not trust this company! They will put a lien on your house!!!
I purchased a house in the spring of 2021 that had central air and a furnace from when it was originally built in 2005. The furnace worked great, had been serviced regularly according to the service sticker on the furnace and was quiet.
During the summer we were having multiple heat waves reaching over 100°f so I decided to look into getting AC.
The home inspector that inspected my house recommended black hills to me during inspection as a company to hire to do routine maintenance on my original furnace. So, I figured i would give them a call to inquire about the maintenance plan per the inspectors recommendation and also about air conditioning.

They sent a sales guy out pretty quickly who gave me a few options but highly recommended a new furnace and heat pump combo. I knew absolutely nothing about air conditioning as I have never had it before.
I asked a few general questions, got the pricing and discussed it with my significant other.

My significant other did his research on the furnace and heat pump and decided to call them back out to ask a few more questions.
The same sales guy came over and we discussed pricing again, benefits of the heat pump combo over just attaching AC etc. and we decided to go forward with purchasing the furnace & heat pump combo for $15,700.00.
We wanted to explore a loan through our bank but the sales guy let us know that they have great financing options. The salesman NEVER told us it was a 3rd party lender. I assumed black hills had their own lending program.

We start the application and the sales guy is asking me for all of my personal information and he is the one typing it in to his iPad. I asked if I could type it in because I didn't feel comfortable telling him all of my personal information. He seemed taken back and demeanor changed. He said he could send me a link to my email to fill it out on my own.
When I was filling out the info he briefly went over the agreement which he stated that it was just agreeing to the amount of $15,700.00 and that I agree to pay it in X amount of months with X amount of interest etc.
I have had several loans through my life so I figured this contract would be similar to the others I've had.
NEVER EVER did the sales guy mention ANYTHING about their trusted 3rd party lender requiring a Lien on my house.

I only found out about the Lien when I went onto the assessor website several months later to pull up property tax records and clicked on my documents and saw that there was a lien on my house for the HVAC.
I was instantly sick to my stomach. It is one thing to breeze over small print but it's a whole other thing when you knowingly DO NOT disclose incredibly important information like that to your customer. I would have stopped the loan instantly and went with sourcing the loan from my personal bank. And my thoughts are that the sales guy knew that, which is why he was trying to fill out MY application for me and when I asked to fill out myself, he then decided to go over our agreement but completely skipping over the lien detail.

I called Salal credit union which is who they used, to ask questions and the representative who took my call told me that unfortunately, they do have dealers (in this case black hills) who leave out that detail about the lien but that Salal does extensive training for its dealers to ensure they understand their lending program in full. There was no doubt in that representatives mind that Black Hills was fully aware of the lien requirement.

I HATE this stupid system. It broke down 6months after install during the coldest days recorded in WA state since the 50's. I had no other heat source other than a small space heater for my two story home until they were able to come out.

It's incredibly loud. I can be at my friends house who have a larger system since their house is much larger and I don't hear a thing but in my house I constantly hear it running.
I no longer have central air meaning the fan option doesn't work. I only have heat or air conditioning.

And back to the sleeze ball sales guy, on my contract it was stated that I had a google nest smart thermostat that was to be used so I didn't have to pay for their thermostat.  The google nest was the latest version at the time and tested to be compatible with heat pump hybrid systems at the voltage that my current hybrid system is and when the install team came out, they removed my nest! They told me they couldn't use it because it would void the warranty on the system if there was a failure that could be deemed to be caused by the nest. I had just spent $250 on that nest literally 30 days before they came out and now I couldn't even use it.

Their service technicians are always friendly which is nice. But it's not worth it.
Save yourself the hassle and find a different company that is going to have morals.

Our kitchen counter remodeling left us with a new sink but faucet un-installed. Found online that Black Hills was recommended by Google so I called them. They said regulation required air vent for the dishwasher so the matching  soap dispenser ended not installed. In total we had 1) faucet, 2) air vent for dishwasher, 3) leaking hot water shut off replaced, and 4) purchased a garbage disposal and installed. The total bill amounted to over $3000, is this reasonable. The garbage disposal online costs between $300 to $400. The dishwasher vent, I checked later, was required by regulation only required with new home construction, and our home was built at the 70th. After the work was done, we checked and immediately realized that we were cheated and taken advantaged of. Those two guys left with smog on their face, knowing two senior citizens were not likely to fight them.

We purchased a brand new heat pump when my last one died during the summer fires 2020. I HATE this furnace and the service we have received. Whenever the weather is not mild it doesn't work. Within months of install they had 2 service calls because it quit blowing air.  When it is cold the pump freezes up and blows the circuit. I have to get up multiple times a night to keep our heat on. They came out 3 times in February/March 2022 and replaced a $300 part and didn't fix it. After that they refused to come out. Now it is 80 degrees out. Our house is 74 degrees and no cold air blowing. I have it set to cool at 65 degrees and no cold air. I will call on Monday, have to wait til their next availability, pay $130 for the visit and it won't be fixed like it wasn't last year or the year before. We have had multiple parts replaced already. AVOID THIS PLACE! ABSOLUTELY USELESS.

My AC was leaking water and I called BH to check it out. They had good response time. However the quote they emailed me was very high and the technician never contacted me to explain what was wrong or the options to repair. I feel paid almost $180 for nothing but an email that told me I need to spend$2k-5k for a band aid repair.

We have had thr worst experience with Black Hills. Our new heat pump and furnace were installed the last day of March. Here we are coming up in the end of May and our very expensive unit is still not working properly. We have had SEVERAL technicians out to fix the issue and each time they have left with saying we still need to use emergency heat and default to our furnace. After having the service manager out the conclusion was to just replace the entire unit installed and that would be completed after he returned from being out of office. Lack of communication on Black Hills part is really making this experience miserable.

Came out and provided an outrageous repair quote.  Said parts are really expensive, turns out parts in question have a lifetime warranty.

According to the woman in their office they don't honor warranties on equipment purchased from another company.  Sure seems like an outrageous money grab to me.  I won't be using them again.

I can accept if a mfg won't cover warranty work from an inferior company and that sure seems like the case here.

Called Black Hills to get a rough estimate on replacing the blower motor in my furnace and was told that it would require a tech to perform a diagnostic service to verify what was causing the problems. I told the rep that all I was needing her to provide was a ROUGH estimate for a motor replacement and she said that they have flat rates and could not provide that to me without the service being performed. That's nonsense! A company that replaces furnace motors on a regular basis ought to be able to provide an estimate without a service call and related charge. Won't be doing business with this company in the future.

Greg L. did an incredible job re-doing all the plumbing in a 110 yr old home I recently purchased. He was consistently on-time, responsive, communicative and above all very helpful explaining the process of the work he was going to do and why. I would happily send anyone I know who needs a plumber to Greg L. and Black Hills. He's like family now, and I will trust him will my plumbing projects for as long as I own the home. Top-notch, great work, and a wonderful addition to my home team.

Thanks Greg!

Ryan and DeShawn showed up yesterday earlier than expected, with shoe covers as they entered the house.  We are new to the area, and new to the house.  We have never had a heat pump hybrid system before and didn't understand how it worked, as it would turn off when it got really cold, below 35.  Ryan and DeShawn came in, worked for a couple hours checking over our system. Ryan found a loose wire connection to the power of the heat pump which caused the heat pump to send weird error messages to the smart thermostat.  The guys inspected the heat pump, our furnace, climbed under our house to look at the duct work, and took pictures for us to see, then came up and reprogrammed our thermostat to better cover our lifestyle. DeShawn moved around the house to check the heat vents to confirm that the temperature coming out of them was as expected.  Ryan was smart, friendly, knowledgeable, patient with old people trying to figure out something new.  He basically sat down at the table and explained to us how this kind of system works and answered all our questions.  We had a great experience with them, they left with our problem solved.  Bonus is both were really great with our guard **cough cough** dogs!  Both Ryan and Deshaw are just excellent humans, professional, knowledgeable, very kind and helpful, and we really appreciated and enjoyed having them in our house helping us.

I hired Black Hills to do a routine service on my heat pump in June 2021.   They told me everything checked out and charged me $200.   That was the agreed price, so no issue.

5 months later, the heat pump experienced a problem, so I called Black Hills back out.   To their credit, they were able to schedule this pretty quickly, but things went downhill after that.

The tech investigated the problem and told me that the contactor welded itself closed and would need to be replaced.   Interesting that this occurred not 5 months after it checked out fine.   But here is where things went south.   He charged me $467 to replace the contactor - in addition to the $149 diagnostic fee.   But checking with friends in the industry, this should have cost no more than $50.

Why so expensive?   Because the on-site techs don't earn much for making the diagnostic call, but rake in coin based on what they can charge unsuspecting homeowners.

Don't use Black Hills.   Find a reputable HVAC contractor to avoid overcharges like this.

When we purchased our home I called Black Hills to have them come out and look over my heating and A/C system . The tech came out checked my system and told me about their program of coming out changing the furnace filters and checking the system every six months and since the price seemed reasonable and the tech seemed to do a good job I signed up for the service.
Six months later I received an email that it was time to schedule my six month service so I called to make an appointment but was told they were very busy and couldn't schedule an appointment for about three weeks so I scheduled an appointment for between 8-12 an a day three weeks later On the day of the appointment I had cancelled all of my other commitments so that I could be home for the tech to check over our heating and A/C system and was waiting for the tech to arrive when I received a call from Black Hills saying that they were short on techs and would have to reschedule for three weeks later. I told them it was very inconvenient to have to wait another three weeks so they scheduled us for the following monday.
Today is the day of the rescheduled appointment that I was told again would be between 8-12 so again I rescheduled all of my other appointments and when I hadn't heard anything from Black Hills I called them to find out when they are coming and was told that there had been a scheduling mixup and they couldn't come until the afternoon so once again I also need to scramble to cancel my afternoon commitments in order to be home for the appointment with Black Hills.
At this point I am very tired of their unreliability, and plan on cancelling my service program because it us apparent that they are more interested in marketing campaigns to sign up customers for their service program than they are interested in taking care of their customers once they sign up.
I am very disappointed in their quality of service at this company and will be not be using them in the future.

Our compressor has a small leak after only 4 short PNW summer usage years. A hot day making our inside temp 84 degrees. Coming from California and the AC running almost nonstop during the summer, this was a very upsetting call to make for such a short time. $1797 +tax for labor to replace it, 6 hours of work and still charged the $140 for the diagnostic call. $300/hr for labor only.

Initially I used them because they seemed thorough and a reasonable price when comparing to others in the neighborhood.

I'm not happy that my 4 year old compressor leak and even though it's still under warranty, I still have to pay for labor. It needs to be fixed, so I'll just pay it.

They were on time, did confirmation and follow up calls and were friendly.

Black Hills solicited my business after I went on the web requesting work be done in a rental home I own between tenants. Upon learning that the house was a rental and would be unoccupied at the time of their service, they declined the opportunity to do the job for both reasons.

Obviously, Black Hills doesn't need the work and can afford to be picky. That's good to know; I won't bother them again, ever, as I wouldn't want to deprive them of free time.

Once again, I'm being haunted by Black Hills Home Services. We had them install our furnace and heat pump some 9 years ago and and like a time bomb, another problem reared it's ugly head. When they installed the unit, it required a small diameter pvc pipe to carry the condensate to drain outside. With the recent high temps, the air conditioning was working overtime to cool the house which produced an excess of condensate (water). I was walking down the hall in my home and noticed a stain in the carpet outside our laundry room and proceeded to investigate what was happening. The floor in the laundry room was wet and water was dripping from the pvc drain pipe. Upon close examination, a coupling had come apart and water was pouring out onto the floor. The fitting was just pressed fit and had come lose. No pvc cement had been used to secure the joint. I pushed it back together which stopped the leak and attempted to deal with the water soaked carpet and vinyl flooring in the laundry room. I've had several issues with BHHS including price gouging for repair parts but this is the first time an issue with a faulty installation has come up. I'm going to have an inspection by a licensed, bonded, and insured contractor and send BHHS the bill including the cleaning or replacement of the carpet in my hallway. The attached picture is a couple days old and the stain has grown three to four times.

a new furnace was installed in my home about a year ago. fast forward to last weekend and I decide to check (and then change) the filter. This is when I learned that a PROPRIETARY filter was used during the install rather than the standard READILY AVAILABLE size. I gave Black Hills a call hoping they would just correct the issue. after what felt like 45 minutes on the phone all I ended up with was a free service call that would include a filter change. tonight was that service appointment. the technician arrived, installed a new (identical filter that I am not able to purchase locally) filter and left no paperwork stating what he had done. When my wife asked if he made the requested adjustment she was pointedly told he was doing as he was instructed. since no paperwork was left no idea what this person did while he was in my home.

first edit:
to keep the length down I will paraphrase the majority of the conversations... the very next day I received a call from B.H. (I'm guessing marketing?) and had a semi lengthy discussion regarding what had transpired and wanted to know if I was happy or not. I replied I was not all that happy since my initial request had been completely ignored. I've rarely seen people work so hard at dancing around a subject. clearly not their first rodeo. I finally gave up and hung up. within a couple hours I received a call from Casey (unsure of the spelling) who wanted to discuss this further. I'd already made my mind up that I was done with asking them to make this small problem right but they didn't drop it. Casey called back about mid afternoon and here we go again. simple reasoning could not be conveyed that a small alteration to their work would change the situation so drastically that rather than 2 [brands of] filters fitting the furnace there'd be two to three times that many. this logic was completely lost on her. she only wanted to state obvious facts (we've never had this problem with any furnace we've ever installed, etc etc). I'm so disappointed by all of this. I'd much rather report back that all ended well but it hasn't. if you're in need of HVAC work I really would look elsewhere. Black Hills will not be getting a second chance with me. when I get A/C added to my home in the next year or two they won't even be given a chance to do the install. they have lost out!

**I would not recommend - here's why** We went with Black Hills because they were an approved contractor on Tacoma Power's website for eligibility for a $1000 rebate for a new heat pump installation, and we also had them install a new furnace. They were friendly enough when I called and were able to get us scheduled quickly. Two guys came for the install and worked all day to get it installed. We were initially impressed. System worked great. But after a couple of months, our smoke detectors randomly started going off one afternoon. I pulled down the one in our bedroom to get hit with a decent amount of water that had leaked from the attic, through the ceiling and into the smoke detector which is what caused it to go off. My neighbor was home and crawled up there to see if he could identify the problem while I called Black Hills to get someone out here. There was a pipe that was fully disconnected, lying on the floor of my attic with a water puddle in front of it. The technician came out - I told him what my neighbor saw. He went up there, came down and told me that pipe was essentially useless and that it was only for cleaning and maintenance, that it didn't need to be attached- and that he couldn't identify the problem but put a sensor down so if we experienced another leak our system would shut off and we could call them right away. We didn't turn the system on for a couple of days. On the third day, we turned on the A/C, and within 30 minutes our system shut off. So I called back and they sent another technician out. My husband went up into the attic, and saw that the pipe that the first technician told us was not necessary and didn't need to be connected to anything - had been GLUED onto where it was actually supposed to be, connecting it to the rest of the system. Odd, since he told me it was not necessary at all and that couldn't have been the cause of the leak. The second technician was wonderful, educational, helpful and he corrected the actual problem (so far anyways, it's been a couple of months with no issues). Furthermore - I had placed several calls and sent several emails to Black Hills to get the documentation needed to submit my rebate application to Tacoma Power. I usually did not receive a call or email back but if I was lucky enough to actually speak to someone, I was met with resistance saying they only submit paperwork for rebates for PSE. I was not asking them to submit my paperwork, only asking them to forward the necessary and required documentation, which I provided them in a very simple list form. A gal from Tacoma Power even sent a few emails on my behalf with an even more descriptive list of the required documentation. I finally spoke with a manager at Black Hills who told me he would make my paperwork for my rebate a priority. I never heard from him after that and I was never able to reach him again - either not getting emails back or being told he was unavailable every time I called. I was notified by Tacoma Power that my rebate application had been rejected because it was incomplete - so we lost the $1000 rebate which is quite a bit of money to us. Overall, I'm extremely disappointed in the service that we have received from Black Hills and I would not recommend them if you're looking for a company to be helpful, responsive and transparent.

I had the company come out because my inducer motor seized up. They came out and inspected the motor and the heat exchanger. I was told the heat exchanger was cracked and they quoted me a price for a new furnace. Something didn't seem right so I called another company to get a second opinion. They inspected the heat exchanger for 45 minutes and found no cracks at all. When dealing with these companies I will always get a second opinion!

As expected, our furnace took a siesta and decided it wasn't going to top 67 degrees in our house since we had a little bit of a cold spell outside.  This is by no means freezing outside, but I was a little concerned since this is just the beginning of the cold weather.  I called Black Hills Thursday afternoon and they came right out Friday morning on time and was able to repair the problem quickly and reasonably priced.  The service tech was friendly, efficient and knowledgeable of what needed to be done. Thank you

You all are just one huge money scam! I'm am over you all! Don't use them, I'm about $26,000 deep in a new unit and they want more money from me after an upgrade in May because the system hasn't worked right since said upgrade! Oh, then wouldn't even do the scheduled maintenance on the unit since it's broken, which is absurd because I pay monthly for this service!MONEY SCAM BEWARE! UPDATE:: System still doesn't work after I paid for them to upgrade my system and I am still being greeted with the worse customer service! So, I am canceling all services with them. I am asking other companies for help now because we are literally freezing now! On top of all this, we are Active Duty Military and my soldier is being left in the cold. How is it that you pay for them to upgrade your new system to make it work better and now it doesn't work and they want more money just to come look at it and they haven't serviced my unit times 2 times now! How disgusting of a company is this! You all got your hand out for more money but that's it! Still a huge money scam!

I will start at the beginning. 10ish years ago Black Hills replaced the furnace in our house. For over 10 years, we have been dutifully paying $18 a month for maintenance. When these guys come over for maintenance, it's a mixed bag. Some times they are quick and out, and other times they have me move garage shelving on my own while they watch when I'm 37 WEEKS PREGNANT so they can have room to work.  No seriously. I had to kick the technician out after he was turning the furnace on and off for over 2 hours because I had to go to the hospital because my blood pressure shot up and I thought I was going in to labor. Not even kidding.

Anyways, after taking over $2000 in maintenance fees over the last decade (which honestly is a $5 filter change every 6 months and some guy telling me the furnace is working fine which is kind of like duh), a blower fan blew. Apparently, even after the thousands of dollars they already took from us, a blower fan breaking isn't considered maintenance even though it's covered under warranty. Well, the PART is covered under warranty, but it will cost us over $400 in labor to get it installed. My husband asked them to order the part and he would install it himself. Nope. Apparently they will not order the part if we don't pay them to install it. Sounds pretty scammy to me.

But it gets EVEN SCAMMIER! My husband found the part on Amazon for $80 and it took 30 minutes to replace it. Yea......... After 10 years of being loyal customers, they tried to screw us.

Needless to say, don't get the maintenance plan. It's a complete waste of money because when something breaks, they will overcharge you to fix something that should be included in the first place. Those filters they change are only a few dollars on Amazon, and whatever amount you pay to them for maintenance will be more than just paying for the repairs as they come up.

Scheduled furnace maintenance via website, received a call within a few hours, and was able to schedule a maintenance for the following week.

Technician (Alex Ross) arrived at scheduled time, and quickly got to work after asking relevant questions about system.  I just had my carpets cleaned earlier in the day, however he already had covers for his shoes upon entering my home.

After taking him to my attic entry, he provided me with a booklet to go over some pertinent information about their services, and discussed what he was going to do.  He also clearly gave an estimate as to how long the maintenance will take.

Mid-way through he brought down the furnace blower fan, and showed me some of the build-up.  The system was 3-years old, and hadn't been serviced since install.  There was some buildup which he pointed out, and described how it wasn't too bad, but that lack of maintenance would decrease efficiency, thus increase energy bill.  He also showed me the capacitor, and described how it was performing, and that it is also another component that eventually causes issues.  He took the fan outside to clean it, and re-installed it.

Upon completion, he offered to take a look at my tank-less water heater, and took down some information, should I choose to use their service for maintenance/repairs of that.

Wrapping up, I was provided a Home Efficiency Form, showing high-level information about the home, and maintenance provided.  I was also presented with the offer of signing up for their Service Club Membership, however this did not feel like a high-pressure sales push, which was fine.  He also offered to answer any questions I had, and provided some insight into installing an A/C unit in my home.

Overall, website, and responsiveness was good, initial price quoted over the phone, matched what the technician invoiced me for which was great, shoe booties were a nice touch.  Additionally, the technician cleaned up the insulation that fell from my attic when he accessed my unit.  Price seemed appropriate, but I believe that was a first-time customer promotion.

Very professional local company.  Yes, I've gotten a little cheaper quotes from out of town companies, but this one is a local business and they've always been responsive.  They installed our furnace and did a retrofit for ducting.  I am very pleased with the quality of work and the continued maintenance plan.  I always recommend Black Hills.

As an update to my review, I asked the company to pay us back for our $500 deductible for insurance and my lost wages for day the system burned up. They refunded our cost of their maintenance service, and paid us for our out of pocket expenses for the catastrophic event with our heat pump system. I give kudos where it is due. Thank you Black Hills Inc.

Professional and thorough; however, will try and go as far as complete system replacement for minor repairs.  Quoted $1,300 for parts that cost less than $200 and simple labor install 20 min .  Be weary!!

They charged $400 for a new furnace thermostat. That is an outrages price, especially since I found the same thermostat after they installed it for $125 installed $200 with warranty elsewhere. The only reason they provided for such a ridiculous price for the thermostat was it under warrant for 5 years and they installed it. I will never use this company I feel they charges are extremely high and poor quality work. Still don't have a working furnace, something new is wrong, need a different tech for new problem.

My heat pump went out recently and I called Black Hills.  The Black Hill's technician, while polite, basically tried to sell me a new system because the cost to repair from their menu was over $1,600 for 6 parts with no guarantee that it would work.  Black Hills charged me $79 for this diagnostic and highly recommended that I buy a new system due to the age of the system (it was installed in 2005).  I didn't think that sounded right so I called another smaller company to get a second opinion.  This smaller company's experienced technician (over 40 years experience) quickly fixed my heat pump.  He replaced one capacitor, replaced some wire connectors, and did a full function test and diagnostic and everything was within specifications; he charged me $165 for the diagnosis and repair!  Plus, this technician took the time to educate me on how each of the subsystems in the heat pump work.  In short, this smaller company gave me a clear understanding of what the problem was, only charged me for the necessary part and labor (I prefer seeing parts and labor  clearly delineated rather than hidden in a menu), and ensured that I was satisfied with the functioning of my system.  That, my friend, is how trust is established.  I will no longer call Black Hills nor recommend them to my friends, family and neighbors.
Sincerely,

So our blower motor went out in our furnace originally installed by Black Hills in back in 2005. I called them to come check it out and they did on Thursday 27 JUL 17. He said it was the motor and he would order it and it should be here by possibly Friday but Monday for sure! Nothing we spent the whole weekend burning up in the heat. Monday came and I called for status on the tech coming out and the bubbly teen on the other end of the phone said our part would not be in for 7 to 10 business days, are you high?! I was told no later than Monday now its two more weeks and the heat is over 90 to 100+ all week. I had a friend get me the parts and fixed it myself with just two hours and saved over $500. Stay away from this place, unless you want to be disregarded and treated like an idiot.

Frankie came in and did a wonderful job on my 6 month maintenance.  He also ran through the programming on my thermostat.  He was very kind, and mostly I loved his smile.  Their motto I believe when I call Black Hills is, How can I make you smile today.  It makes me smile everytime.  Frankie made me smile, because when I talked to him he was smiling.  Thank you Frankie for making my experience with Black Hills once again Wonderful...Keep on Smiling

Black Hills did an outstanding job for us on our challenging furnace/heat pump installation. We have a master suite that was added on by the previous owner in a nonprofessional way(DIY). It made Black Hill's job very difficult and we showed them the potential problems up front, but they gave their word they would be very responsive and make it work. They were quick to reply to trouble calls during installation and now we have an excellent HVAC system.

Black Hills Heating is a very reputable company with very friendly, prompt, and educated employees who strive to do their best.  I experienced this with my appointment for a checkup on my YORK® HVAC SYSTEM.  They completely diagnosed the problem, and now it can be repaired in the proper manner.

Highly recommended - competent, and complete service!

Beware of their offers and do some research!
My two stars are a mix of 5 stars for the service & timeliness and -1 (negative stars if they were possible) stars for a proposed price offer to perform a prophylactic measure.

We asked for a maintenance of our furnace, winter being around the corner. All was well, technician came out just as agreed and he did a good job, was nice and professional. They billed around $120 incl. tax, reasonable. No complaints whatsoever.

However, the technician found that the igniter had only limited time left (bad ohm reading, may break/fail during winter heating season).
Our furnace is about 12 years old so seems possible/feasible.

He offered to replace the igniter for a price of around $425.

He had taken the igniter out to show me and I asked him whether this little part really costs $425. He showed me a price list in a binder and referred to it as the price it costs. He offered an annual service plan which would take some % off the price.
My gut feel was that it's impossible for that thing to be that expensive so I  asked him the put it back in. I then researched and talked to the manufacturer. The actual part costs $30 for an original and $15 for a knock off. It takes less than 10 minutes to install (even for an amateur).

I called Black Hills and asked them if maybe I am missing something here, that the $425 includes something I haven't considered but no, it's for the part and the installation.
That is not a reasonable price, by any means....and nice try on the maintenance plan scheme there...

So, don't just accept a price from a glossy price list with fancy graphs that look good - it might not be!

Nice enough people but would never use them for repairs at least. Charged $500 for a repair that did not work and then said $2000 more to fix. A new unit was $1500 so I ordered one but they will not simply evacuate and recharge the new unit because of their warranty, don't expect or asked them to warranty the unit. Sketchy customer service in my opinion.

We needed a furnace replacement and had Black Hills come out as our second quote. The consultant spent 2+ hours with us - measuring windows, walking the house, understanding our house - before offering a quote. We appreciated his honesty, his willingness to answer all of our questions and the fact that he didn't try to sell us something that would have been overkill for our 100+ year old house. Our install was a few days later and Jake, our tech, could not have been better. He was extremely professional and thorough and worked hard to get our furnace installed in a timely manner, even after the aforementioned 100+ year old house gave him some unexpected issues. This experience was great - we couldn't have asked for better and the fact that they offer multiple guarantee types gives us the peace of mind that we made the right decision.

I should have review this business 2 years ago when they came to my house to look at my gas furnace which was making a squeaking noise.  I was told that it would cost $400 plus to fix the problem plus another $150 (I think?) to clean the unit and that my furnace needed to be replaced soon.  They even scheduled a salesman to come and give me a quote for a new furnace.  Long story short, I called my uncle for advice and he looked up the part and the part was less than $30 and so the labor to was going to be about $370.  The actual time to replace would be about 15 to 20 minutes.  Outrageous.  I then called another local business and they agreed to fix it for $100 and they cleaned the whole thing as well for $80.
This business is going to rob you!!!   BEWARE!!!!
P.S. My furnace is working great 2 years later.

Fast forward: freedom hvac and air sent Reese to inspect and clean furnace. Working great 3 years after black lake furnace repair advised me to replace.

We had an AC unit installed.  The salesman Dave assured us that we were getting the best service and warranty.  The crew that came out included two guys to install the electrical and two to do the mechanical.  The electrical installers did a great job and were fast and professional.  The mechanical crew could do nothing but complain the whole time.  The did a chop job on the whole thing and it did not pass inspection by the city of Lacey.  They sent another gut to fix the air leaks, reinstall the screws for the exhaust and secure the outside unit to the pad.  The system works, but just barely.  When its hot, it is on all day.  I do not know what the electric bill will be.

If you need AC try to find someone else.

I've been having Black Hills changing my filters for five now and haven't had any negative experience. I love that they wear booties before entering the house to keep our floors cleaning. I'm finally moving out of my home and needed to have an annual furnace inspection. Everything went great and I appreciate the fact that the technician, Russell, showed me how dirty certain parts were and cleaned it. He even offered the membership that they have but my furnace and home is fairly new and I haven't had any issues but it's good to know about the membership and I definitely will consider a membership with them in the future.

Called this contractor twice to fix a problem. They did not fix the issue but did refund my money for the second call they should not have billed me for in the first place. They bid over $400 for a 5 minute job with a $12 part (transformer) that would have been installed on a third visit. The root of the problem was a miswired thermostat both of their technicians looked at.  My brother, who is a contractor in another state, helped me troubleshoot and fix the problem with a phone call I should have made in the first place.

PS - They also gave me a ridiculously overpriced bid on a new furnace. I passed.

Our old furnace was not blowing heat, we had a friend use Black Hills Inc and had only good things to say. We ended up using them and had our furnace replaced. The service tech (Evan)  showed up on time, was very polite, and did his job quietly. He vacuumed up any dust, wore shoe protectors, and showed me how to use all the new equipment. The work was quality and priced fairly. I would highly recommend them.

My son just purchased a 2200 soft home built in 2006.  The home is heated with a heat pump and his heating bill was running $600/mo.  He called Black Hills for quote to fix it.  They came out,  said his 12 year old system is obsolete, needs $3500 in parts, labor would be on top of that and he might as well put a whole new system in at a cost of $10k-$15k.  My son decided on getting another opinion from a company call Sunrise Energy Systems out of Puyallup.  The technician had the parts on his truck, he repaired the system and then verified his repairs, total cost under $300.  I asked if it looked like the system was on its last legs.  The tech said everything is running as it should and has a lot of life left in it.  Beware of Black Hills.  They were mining for gold and stretched the truth to the breaking point.  I would only recommend them to someone I did not like!

My realtor recommended Black hills last year when I sold my house to have them come and service the furnace. The tech came out, crawled up in the attic, disassembled the furnace and then cleaned it and put it all back together perfectly...all for about 100 bucks.

In my new house, about a week ago my furnace went off and we restarted it with no problem...then it did it a few more times. So we called Black Hills again and the tech came out first thing in the morning and went all through the house, the attic and the garage and showed me all about my new house and furnace. He did recommend a few upgrades that make sense. He fixed the problem within minutes and looked up the manufacturer of my furnace and found a part that had been recalled and he will come and install it when the part comes in.

They also offer a military discount!

Great business and I WILL use them again and recommend them to all my friends.

Paid them 3 times what a furnace should cost. They were done with install and returned when only my mom was home, she let them in to check on it.  They cut a hole in our floor in the hallway for another intake?  3 feet from a huge intake in the wall?  What is shock to come home from work and find a brand new hole cut in your floor of your hallway it was not discussed?  I believe we didn't need a new furnace to begin with and that our old one could have been repaired but they just want to sell you new so they make more money.  Now suddenly our AC don't work, hmmmm.  Don't recommend Black hills at all.

Don't use them!  Called on $99 special for furnace cleaning/inspection (I should have known better).  Technician stated a new blower was needed due to excessive oil leaking.  We knew it was a scam because of the way blower units are built (husband is a mechanic and knows these things).  Quoted approx. $600 to replace blower.  Had another company come out and state furnace is in excellent conditions for being 15 years old with absolutely not sign (excessive noise, vibration, etc) of blower needing to be replaced.
Don't use them!

Every aspect of this company has been a great experience for me and my family. I'm a  busy exec and finding time is difficult, they were willing to meet my schedule. Everyone was courteous and respectful of our home.

The sale representative sat at our kitchen table and made us feel comfortable with the installation. The Installers were great, even fix our duct work that was incorrectly done by the builder Big Thanks. The electrician was very professional and friendly, we had a great conversation about the Navy, I'm a Veteran and appreciate that very much. The ladies in the office we very helpful explaining my permit paperwork.

The price beat the competitors by almost $1000. The complete package for our AC including tax was better than the intro price of the competitor before tax.

The paperwork for the followup inspection was completed and explained to me very clearly making my county permit inspect go smoothly done today.

I'm a fan and would HIGHLY recommend this company.

I just want to say that any business we have done/had with Black Hills has always been courteous, up to par, always on time and HONEST. We purchased a whole new hvac system from this company and it has and does work perfect. They came to our home, did an assessment, came back and built a new furnace, installed and wired the whole new system which meant crawling under the house a few times back and forth in the extreme heat and were very efficient. We bought our home in 2010 which was built in 1958. The old furnace was so old and loud and the first winter here our electric bill was $485.00 for one month. I knew a new system would pay for itself the first couple years and it has. Our electric bills are now LESS than $100.00 a month in the winter, and less than $60.00 in the summer. We are so happy w/ Black Hills and their service.  Thank You Black Hills my husband and I appreciate you. Oh by the way our system was less than $10,000.

I've been using Black Hills HVAC for about 18 months. They were the most responsive when calling out for a furnace that was making noise.  They fixed the problem with a new exhaust fan. At the same time they sold me on an annual plan which gave me a discount on the repair. The plan includes twice annual service and priority emergency call out. I don't care for these plans but signed up.  The first couple times they came out I was annoyed that they were focusing on selling me a new furnace.  Saying it could fail at any moment and a new one pays for itself in less than 5 years through energy efficiency.  I know better. It's still working.

The most recent visit to change filters didn't include a hard sell and I like that.  I also pointed out that the furnace began making noise shortly after the end of summer service.  The tech found a part that was left loose and fixed it. I liked that he owned the past mistake.

I like that BH HVAC calls in advance to schedule and remind of appts.  The receptionist is little over the top with happy happy but that's just me.

Called these people to do a routine maintenance visit on my two year old gas furnace. While in my garage, they took it upon themselves to look up the serial number of my Whirlpool hot water heater right next to the furnace and informed me that it was in need of replacement (due to the age) and they could schedule me next week for $1500. including tax. Nice. According to him, these things have expiration dates of 10 years.
First off - it's working fine to date, no leaks, rust, corrosion, weird noises or anything - just 11 years old. Puts out all the hot water we need, so we are fine!
Secondly, it's pretty obvious that they are just trying to drum up business for themselves. Now I'm wondering if they spent enough time on my furnace maintenance since the bid for the water heater looked like it took a long time out of the hour they were here.
Thirdly, with the holidays approaching do you really think this is something I am going to do right now when I don't have any issues with my water heater? I mean who can just cough up an extra $1500? Not us!
I'm sure we will need to replace the thing soon, but I think it's pretty sleazy to come into our home for maintenance on a furnace and spend time looking for additional bid opportunitie$ with our other appliances. Won't be calling them again.

Extremely disappointed given the high rating they have on here. They replaced a blower motor on my furnace and charged over $800. Looking online, the part should only be around $200. I was not able to be at my home when they did the work, but if I had, there is no way I would have paid that. Completely unreasonable. The people were friendly, but that doesn't make up for the extreme overcharging. I will not be using this company again and will make sure everyone I know stays away as well.

I wanted an air conditioner unit and heat pump for my home and got 3 bids.  I found black Hills not to be the cheapest, but to be the most thorough.  They were on time for their appointments, their employees were polite, clean, and conversational.  They thoroughly explained the system to both my husband and I and have gone above and beyond to ensure our comfort both in summer and winter since the install.

I did have an issue with a fried wire about 8 months after I had the heat pump installed, and they were quick to respond and fix the problem with no further issue.  The service technician even replaced my filter before he left.

I would definately recommend this company, and have been satisfied with their level of service, as well as their equipment.

Thank you.

We purchased a new heat pump and furnace (12K) with these people just about a year ago. Not at all happy. The person selling us the unit really sold us on the energy efficient properties and cost savings. We were under the impression we would be saving a lot of money on our heating bills to help offset the cost of the new unit. They even would guarantee it. Right. That is not the case at all. A BIG FAT SALESMAN'S LIE. We should have been less gullible, however, with the good rating of the company we felt we were okay to trust them somewhat blindly. I would not recommend trusting them at all.

I wasn't happy because I felt this 'deal' was a bait-n-switch. We replied to an ad that stated, $99 Heat Pump & A-C Tune-up. When the tech arrived we were told the $99 was for either the heat or A-C...not both. What? It's a Heat Pump! It's heat and A-C! Tech said it's actually $99 for each but since he was here he would do one for $99 and the other for $59, so the total of this special was $170plus. Then, of course, he found something that was ready to break that had a $600plus estimate. When he was finished he wanted to sell us the yearly maintenance plan (almost $200 a year)....ugh!

For about 7 years I have been getting advertisements in the mail from this company indicating that they could install an entire heating and cooling system at a very reduced price due to overstocking of equipment etc.  So, I finally contacted Black Hills Heating and Cooling for a bid price on replacing my furnace with a heat pump. The salesman arrived and gave me a price indicating I was eligible for rebates through PSE.
I was almost ready to do it, but thought I should get a bid from another company that my parents had used (starts with a G). This company gave me a bid price about $2000 cheaper than Black Hills Heating and Cooling (with the same PSE rebates). Since I was familiar with this company I had them do the job. This was in 08/2012, but Black Hills Heating and Cooling continues to send me these same advertisements in the mail.
I have since discussed this with a friend who used to do installations of heat pumps and was told that Black Hills Heating and Cooling is known for jacking up the prices. I would highly recommend that anyone dealing with Black Hills Heating and Cooling get at least one  bid from another company before doing any major  repairs or replacement.
I too,  find it hard to believe that this company gets such high reviews in that last few years

They don't try to high pressure you into something you don't really need just to get a sale. Everyone I dealt with at this company was very knowledgable and professional. My install went great and I love my new heat pump and water heater. I know that if I should have a problem or question all I have to do is ask and someone is there to help me, no matter what time of day, even after hours. If you are thinking about upgrading your furnace or water heater definitely call these people. David Griffis was awesome, he will take as long as you need and thoroughly explain all your questions. My installer Jeremy was also great! He explained my system to me and answered my questions. He left everything cleaned up and got rid of all the debris from my old equipment. I really can't be more satisfied.

All I wanted was to have my furnace cleaned. My home is only 8 years old. Home Depot recommended this place and I know now why.
When the young kid came out, he looked at my furnace not even 10 mins. called me and my hubby out to tell me there was a leak, and my home was in danger from carbon monoxide leaks.
If I could give this Co. a rating of negative 3 I would.
He had this tube camera, that and a little TV screen he was trying to point out cracks, in the system etc.. I was not even 100% positive the image was from my furnace. He said a new furnace is $8-12K and I could put it on my Home Depot. account. WHAT a scam. I told him it sounded like a bunch of garbage and he could leave now. I called the Company and told them it was a complete rip.
My husband replaced, the filters, and a year later we have had no problems with the furnace. I DO NOT recommend this place. The kid technician I use the term loosely, even mentioned he sold a new furnace to my neighbors a while back.

I had a very bad experience with this company.

I was having trouble with my heat pump not coming on and with my thermostat not adjusting to the temp that I wanted.  The young guy came out and wrote a list of all these problems and told me it would cost 2000$ to fix it and that even if he fixed everything, the system was so worn out that it would probably not last long anyway.  He insisted that I needed a new unit and called a salesman to come out right away.

The salesman quoted me 8000$ for a new system (without measuring anything or itemizing the costs) and then used all sorts of pressure tactics telling me that he could only get me a good price if I agreed to buy the system right there on the spot.  When I said that I wanted to get additional bids, he discouraged me from doing so.  This made me uncomfortable, so I asked for a few days to think about it.  He pressured me to schedule installation with them in a two days and saying that I could cancel if I changed my mind.  No Thanks.

I then called another company to give me an estimate on a new system.  The guy from the other company couldn't understand why I thought I needed a new system.  He fixed my heat pump in exactly 30 seconds by pushing a big red reset button!  Seriously, one button!  He then fixed my thermostat by showing me that I'd been programing it wrong.  Instant fix!  The system did need a tune-up and a few minor repair,  which the guy did for 300$.

300$  NOT 8000$

I feel like black hills tried to mislead me in order to sell me something I did not need.

First time using them so I have no prior track record to offset my negative experience. Not ONE thing on my routine inspection/filter change went as expected. Below are a few major points but not all encompassing.

My furnace developed a new problem while the tech was wrapping up. Yes, it's older but worked fine - no acting up or issues. The tech wasn't forthcoming about having a problem. I had to ask. I could hear him talking and it was obvious something was wrong. He kept saying he was finishing up and would be done in a few more minutes. You can only hear that so many times before wondering what's going on. Once I asked, he explained he couldn't get my fan to stop running. This is after the service is complete AND I bought a new part at his recommendation. He called another tech to come out with an expected arrival in 30-40 minutes. With that he left for his next appointment. The second tech (over one hour later) advised the fan trouble was just a coincidence and had nothing to do with the work they performed. He did however, recommend I buy a new furnace from them because of the age of mine and the multiple issues it has. But it didn't have any issues before! I usually use PSE for my annual inspection but heard BH's ad on the radio and opted to support a local business instead. So disappointing that they offered subpar service compared to the giant entity that is PSE!  I missed over 4 hours of work for an appointment that was scheduled to be 60-90 minutes because I had to wait for a second tech. BH got my inspection money, money for the new part they recommended on top of recommending I buy a new furnace from them. Meanwhile, I have a furnace worse off, that may or may not have been caused by their work, lost half days pay and only received a portion of the described service. I realize things can happen. But in my opinion this was handled poorly with the emphasis being on selling me a new unit with no ownership whatsoever for the possibility they may have contributed to the fan problem. I hate to be cliche but can't help but wonder if a man would have received the same info and service as I did as a single woman. Perhaps they're a good company and mine was the one-off? I don't know. The experience has left me feeling icky and I can't recommend them in good conscience.

I would not recommend this business to anyone. Call Bob's Heating & Air - they do exceptional work and have always been honest. I gave Black Hills a call just to price shop (after hearing all the commercials on the radio). They also told me when I said I was going to call Bob's to check their pricing (since they were who I always used in the past and installed the AC - that Bob's no longer does residential calls - which is a lie).

When I called Black Hills H&A, told them what we had a leak in our AC unit and they said they would come out to find the leak (never said that they would need to test for a leak, since we already knew we had one), quoted a price and then they had to cancel the appointment (to many techs called in sick). Gave me $50 off for rescheduling for a couple days later, 30 minutes before they were supposed to arrive the tech called and said he had a feeling there was a miscommunication on the price and then quoted me a price that was 4x the original amount (they can't take another tech's word). I said that this issue was never discussed so he had customer service call me. Which they would not honor what they had originally agreed to - even though they record the phone calls and can clearly hear the rep tell me what would be done and the cost. She proceeded to be rude and not stand by what was discussed - wasted over a week of my time as we needed to get the AC fixed since we were listing our home for sale. At the end of the call - she said what do you want me to do, I said honor what was originally quoted and she said she wouldn't do that - it was a miscommunication. There was no miscommunication - it was very clear what was wrong, what we needed done, what they agreed to and then they were by no means going to make things right.

I have since talked with a few others who have had similar experiences with this company.
One of our friends ended up with a bill over $10k - that was originally quoted for less than half of that. Do your research before using them.

I had looked for a company to replace my heat pump and heater.  After many different companies that gave me the quote over the phone, not even seeing what I needed, Black Hills sent Jeff to our home.  He came in spoke with us not tell us what we had to have.  He worked within our budget and we set up an apt that same week.
The installer came in with booties, drop clothes to protect my home.  He was very helpful and made sure I understood all that was going to happen.  When he left, I felt confident about the entire unit and how to operate it.  And to my great pleasure, the house was as clean as when he came!  What a bonus!
The system needed an adjustment and they were out the next day to take care of it.  I have had questions and they were right there to answer them, and with a lifetime of free filter replacements, I will definitely recommend this to friend, family or anyone looking for Heating and Air Conditioner needs.
From the first call to the last interaction with this Black Hills Inc. I have had the type of customer service I could only dream of that other companies would embrace.
Thank you .
Sincerely,
Dee VanBrocklin

Wish I had read the previous review dated 10/16/2007. That review is absolutely right. They came out, told me why my 3 year old furnace has a faulty part that needs to be replaced for $170. I told them to replace it.
After that is done, they began a high-pressure sales pitch on why I should be on their maintenance plan for $189/year. I was told, I have another part that is likely to fail. If I replace it now, it will be $400+. If I don't want to replace it, I can be on their service plan so that they can have an eye on it.
I have no proof they are ripping me off since I don't know anything about furnace. But their high pressure sales techniques completely turned me off. My gut instinct is that their maintenance plan is a total sham, it turns your furnace to a profit center for them, and a money pit for you.
I'll never call these guys again.

Managing a rental, I had Black Hills come and check the gas furnace. A service call runs about $109. They had me sign up for the gold plan touting it's value. For this, I pay about $30/month believing it would offer discounts for repairs. When this year the heat exchanger was cracked, though still under warranty, I found that the value i had purchased was literally zero. In fact, I'd paid Black Hills exactly $720 over two years so they have gotten $500 of my money for nothing if you consider that I've paid for 2 years of inspection visits at $109.  I brought this up to the sales manager and he offered to meet with me and give me a bid for a new furnace. His bid was outrageous...never specified the exact brand and model number of furnace, and clearly made up the numbers as he went along. My husband googled what a wholesale furnace company charged for the furnaces he mentions; wholesale prices were in the $1200-$1400 range and the quote for the work on our place came to a whopping $4367.77. This was the price after he penciled in a $467 discount. This was fully $1200 more than any other bids we got. I'd advise to stay away from this company; their sales pitch is, in my opinion, dishonest, and designed to scare you into believing your furnace is unsafe and about to blast you with carbon monoxide, when in fact, a bit of research will show otherwise. Don't sign up for the maintenance plan, it's a total waste of money.

I called the company for a quote on a service call.  I agreed to the price and made an appointment.  The very young technician showed up on time and within a few minutes told me I needed a new furnace.  When I declined the offer, he gave me the bill for the service call.  The bill was much more expensive than what I was quoted over the phone.  I called the company and spoke to the same woman that gave me the original quote, I complained about the difference and told her I was only paying what I was quoted.  The service tech left unhappy, and I learned something about Black Hills business practices.  Furnace still running 4 years after I was told it needed replacing.

updated review,
after I called and talked to the manager who was very understanding about my frustrations of me missing so much work to get all the inspections done, he sent me a check in the mail to make up for the work i'd miss which i very much appreciated. and it was to me within a couple days which was also very cool.
though come to find out after the 3 inspections that the installer did forget to do a handful of things like a barrier to protect the furnace and some kind of pipe/covering over a wire in the heatpump and filling in the wall holes that the tubes go through with putty of some kind and he didn't set the thermostat where it needed to be to get approved for the PSE rebate, though they paid us for that up front so really they just screwed themselves out of that. the PSE inspector fixed the thermostat though so that we would be using our heat pump/furnace to the best effeciency and that black hills would approve for the rebate reimbursement.
all and all, an ok experience, now I just need to find time in my life to set up ANOTHER appoinment for black hills to come out and fix the things that the inspector forgot or just do them myself.
