We hired Ahearn to install additional outlets in our old house, which had unsafe electrical work in the kitchen and zero outlets in one bathroom. Chris and an apprentice converted old outlets to GFCI outlets in the kitchen and laundry room and created an entirely new outlet in the bathroom, the new new wiring for which involved Chris crawling around in wastewater from a plumbing leak we didn't know about (old houses are fun like that). Chris was a good sport about the plumbing issue and returned to finish the work after that was repaired and cleaned up.

I'd give more stars except for 2 things: 1) at some point when entering or leaving our yard on day 1, Chris and the apprentice broke our (admittedly crappy) gate and left a human-size gap in the planks. Had they told me at the time, I would have understood, because like I said, the gate is old and easily broken. But I only discovered it after they left, and having a missing plank was a security risk that I would have liked to know about sooner so I could fix it during the day. 2) After the job was finished, I found a thin metal rod sticking up out of the bathroom floor, flush with the wall...I imagine it's related to the outlet installation, but it was never explained to me during the process and I'll just have to hide it with a trash can or something.

Overall, communication was less than idea. I'm not sure we'll hire Ahearn again, but we do need our knob-and-tube wiring removed, and they do that, so...*shrug emoji*.

It was a very long and tedious process just to have an exhaust fan motor replaced, only to still have issues with it at the end of the process.

Contacting them to come out and see if anything else could be done was another slow and painful process.  Only for them to drag their feet getting out to me, and by the time they got back to me with the work to be done, to tell me that my warranty expired. Although, it wasn't expired when I first called. It is just that it took a month for them to get out to me, and then a couple of weeks to get any scope of work to fix the problem. Although, I have to admit the second service call took far less time than the initial first call for service, which took a couple of months.

Then, I get an email on the very date the warranty expired, saying that the parts were no longer covered, how convenient.

I also get an extremely high and unreasonable quote with a verbal explanation of - just in case the electrician has trouble locating the exhaust fan housing- when the same electrician has already been to my home 3 times.

No reasonable company would put any customer through such an ordeal and for such a basic issue.

As far as reliability, yes, they are very reliable. They show up when they say they are going to be there, and you will even get a phone call before arrival confirming an eta.

Derek was AWEsome. He listened. He gave us reasonable estimates. He worked efficiently and his work was prime. Derek gets at least 4.5 stars.

Unfortunately, the Navy thought so too, so we couldn't get Derek back because he got a long-term contract elsewhere.

Chris was... otherwise. Didn't want to listen to us. Taciturn. Hard to work with.

The final straw was when Chris wanted us to sign off on a hefty estimate for three or four future jobs all lumped together, or else. Chris gets 0 stars.

So, for us, it's else.  Your mileage may vary.

We hired Ahearn Electric for a total rewire as well as replacing the electrical panel for 2 units. They did a fantastic job. Derek the electrician assigned to our project was very friendly, responsive and honest. When one of our tenants later had issues with a GCFI outlet, Ahearn was responsive and able to get someone out that day to troubleshoot the issue.

We wanted to hire them again for another project, however they were fully scheduled. Would definitely recommend Ahearn for any upcoming projects in the future!

We were scheduled to have our heat pump hooked up in October, an appointment it took 2 months to get.  The week before the appointment they bumped us over a month to late November.  We called the week before the November appointment and they assured us they would be able to get us hooked up the same day.  Turns out the electrician was just there to do an estimate and could not give us any idea of when the actual work could be done.  So here we are 4 months later with no heat headed into Thanksgiving and Christmas.  Giving up on this company and going to start over with another.  Thanks for nothing Ahearn.

Beware Ahearn's billing practices!!

We contracted with Ahearn to replace a bulb in our subdivisions light pole.  When the workman arrived, he discovered that the photocell was bad, not the bulb.  He didn't have a photocell with him (REALLY??) so he had to run up to Home Depot to buy one.  This is your standard street lamp, about 20 feet tall that arches over the roadway.  Photocell's are $10-$15 - you can't carry one of those with you?  He was at our site for a total of 2 hours, with one of those hours traveling to/from HD.  When the bill came, we were charged for that 2nd hour, the photocell and a new bulb.

I called and spoke to the company to have the extra hour removed from our bill, and was told that Ahearn bills from when they arrive on the site until they leave.  They said that since they didn't have a photocell with them, we had to pay for them to run to the store to buy one.  I said that was ridiculous and again asked them to remove the charges.  They refused.

I've contracted with numerous companies in the past, and have never been charged for the time to go get a part that they couldn't be bothered to bring with them!  And on top of that, they billed me for changing the bulb for a lamp that still worked!

They've lost my business, our HOA management's business (and all the properties they manage), and hopefully yours.
