Buyer Beware - Josco in Austin, TX
Terrible Customer Service Experience and watch your wallet.
Called Josco before I went as I needed to replace a 25 year old pressure valve attached to a 3 foot piece of old copper pipe. Explained I had done 4 hours of work digging it out of the dried rocky caliche clay that is my front yard and asked if they would help me figure out a replacement setup. Josco assured me they would be happy to help and to come on in.
When I got to Josco I was met by a youngish, dark haired sales guy who was busy chatting with two younger plumbers and seemed to be pissed off that another customer came in. I spent 5 minutes or so listening to them discuss everything but plumbing or parts, but that is part of what customer service is all about so I didn't think twice about it. When it came to my turn, I let him know I was the one that called and showed him the 3' piece of pipe and pressure valve that I needed to replace.
One of the Josco salesman's buddies, (the visiting plumber) immediately took interest in my project as he and his friend were walking out the door and advised me that the only way to replace the pipe was to use a 3' pex pipe adapter that he would be glad to fabricate for me for just $600. Both he and the sales guy had a nice laugh as did I, until they informed me that they were serious about the price for him to fabricate the 3 foot piece.
The sales guy and the plumber exchanged a look and both agreed that it was the only way to fix the situation. I inquired about using PVC, or a similar piece of copper or perhaps a short piece of galvanized pipe for the part.
The sales guy begrudginly brought out a piece of pvc with an elbow to show me that it just could not be done any other way other than the $600 option his buddy proposed. He went on to advise me that they did not carry anything similar to the pressure valve but that he might be able find me one.
At that point I did not even wait for the inevitable and additionally price gouge quote for the pressure valve and explained I had to step out to take a call. Fortunately for me, and unfortunately for Josco, I have a background in construction although I had just come from a business meeting and my dress code may have thrown them off. Otherwise an unsuspecting and trusting customer might have indeed paid Josco nearly $1000 for a 3' piece of pex pipe, a ball joint and a pressure valve.
Not sure how these guys do business, but unsuspecting customers should know that the seemingly complete lack of ethics and integrity and the sales guy's blatant attempt to find the next mark while they rip off a customer is amazing to me.
From Josco I went right down the street to another plumbing supply house and solved the entire problem, with pex pipe adapter, ball joint, new pressure meter, nice and honorable people and a great experience for less than $125.
My opinion of Josco Plumbing Supply is less that 1 star, but that is not an option. Yet another Buyer Beware type of situation.
