I had seen their vans in my area and decided to give them a call since they are a company name I recognized. Had them come out to do an AC pre-Summer maintenance check and was shown that my system plenum and ducts/vents had significant mold growth (thanks humid Houston). They provided photo evidence and some was visible in the vent, so I knew it needed to be fixed. Their quote was pretty steep in my opinion, but I don't really know what things cost and didn't want to call someone else out for a second quote. I was told it would be an all-day job and on the day of scheduled service, it was noon and I still hadn't heard when the crew would come out. I called dispatch and they said their truck had a dead battery - fine, but would have been nice to know because now they would be working in my house well past working hours and into dinner time. The crew did finally arrive and it took about 6hrs to complete the work, which I think they did a good job on. However, lots of debris cleanup was needed on my part, so add on another 1hr plus of cleanup on my end. Overall, the job got done to my satisfaction, but I do think I overpaid for it...that is on me, but not a company I will rush to call back for service again.
Do not accept any quote abacus gives you at face value.
Normally I don't know what things are worth, but when your parents are electrical engineers, asking $6000 to run a single circuit doesn't pass the smell test.
Got it done for $1500 from another company that did a wonderful job.
I complained to Abacus about their abusive, borderline insane pricing and they didn't care.
My electricity for my Kitchen went out after a storm. Just the Kitchen where the Refrigerator and Cooler and the outlets to the Island were not working.
Alfonso/Carmen can to inspect and give me a quote. He quoted me $600 dollars. I even repeated 600 dollars OK. At that point he could have corrected me and said no its $6,600 dollars. I would have said no. My fault for not double checking. But for the work they did was not worth $6,600, they even put new electrical outlets in the garage which was not needed and over kill.
I believe they purposely overcharge me. My advise is to not use them unless you are rich. When Alfonso charged me he said I will charge half today and said $333. I thought OK. But it was actually $3,300. They did not even do $3,300 amount of work. The amount of work they did probably amounted to under $1000. DO NOT USE THEM THEY ARE A RIP OFF!! THEY OVERCHARGE!
ITS A SCAM!
This was my first time using Abacus. I received a coupon in the mail from them so I decided to give them a try.
My faucet in the kitchen had low pressure and the left side of the sink was clogged. I was given a time frame the first day someone would be out, but it was hours later when he showed up. I did get a call from the office and text stating they were busy and running behind schedule. When Mike finally showed up, he was very apologetic and went right to work. He was even wearing a mask and shoe covers. He had to replace my kitchen faucet and unclog the left side of the sink. He was very knowledgable and even gave me tips on other household things. I told him everything had to match perfectly so I trusted him to pick out everything and I was very pleased. I have to admit, they are quite expensive. Not sure if I will use them again but not opposed to it. I would request Mike, he's very professional and goes above and beyond to complete a task.

Worst company I've ever hired. I got their value plan with all around service and maintenance. Every time they visit, they leave issues behind. They break equipment and tell you that you'll have to pay them for the repair. They over charge. You get very little benefit from their value plan or whatever the official title is.
Example 1 - plumbing
Saw the problem, said they couldn't fix it, I suggested a solution and suddenly they figured out the solution. I received a heavy charge for them removing a plug from my garbage disposal.
Example 2 - water heater
I asked them to do annual maintenance. The tech breaks it somehow and tells me that it's broke and the water would no longer heat. I argued with him over the phone and suddenly it started working again. I called another tech to confirm if there was any issue. The tech from another company told me that it wasn't an urgent issue and could wait a long time before being fixed. The alternative company also replaced the system months later for a fraction of the cost.
Example 3 - AC
System fan was having issues. Abacus told me that with my discount, I would pay 199 for them to diagnose (excluding trip charge). This does not include any repairs. I worked for a major HVAC manufacturer and know that this price is on the high end. No thanks
Conclusion: I ended my membership. I will never use

I called abacus do some maintenance on my A/C unit and the technician said I need a whole new unit. I called a different company and they said it just needed a good cleaning and some Freon. This company is a scam

Responsive and professional but rating 1 star because pricing was staggeringly HIGH! Seems unethical to me. Probably take advantage of women and elderly people.
Get a second quote. Offered to replace air conditioning system for $18K or a better system for $25K. Had someone else replace for $8200. What do I know about HVAC.

If you want a group that will come out fast, fearmonger, then overcharge, Abacus is perfect. These guys are rip-off artist
Today we had a problem with the electricity going to our new oven. At 4:30 pm we called and got an appointment for the same day. Jose came out within 20 minutes and replaced a breaker. Our oven installer was able to complete the install same day. Thanks Abacus. We will be a loyal customer.
This is one of those times I wish I had looked at the yelp reviews before calling Abacus. I would avoid them at all costs as they are scam / ripoff artists. Be aware they were promoted in the Consumer Business Review that is mailed each quarter or so to my house. Now that I know the Consumer Business Review magazine promotes scam artists, I will avoid any vendor listed in that publication.
I called Abacus for two things to be repaired, spent a lot of time on the phone explaining the problem - dripping bathtub needed a new cartridge and a sink that needed an adjustment - gave them the brand name, etc. We scheduled an appointment on a Wednesday and the only time window they would give me was between 9:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.
Wednesday morning around 9:30, a lady from Abacus called and said the technician was on his way - it somehow took hours to get here as he didn't arrive until 3:00 p.m. He was very courteous, looked at the issue and took a lot of pictures with his tablet. He told me he would be unable to do the work today and it would take at least two more trips - one person to come fix the bathtub leak and another for the sink. That was very disappointing as I had already taken off the day for work to meet him as well as specifically explained the issues needing repair when I setup the appointment (brand name, etc.).
He needed a few moments to work up an estimate - if I joined their plumbing club I could save $376 on the repair (that's about how much I thought the job was worth). When I asked how much the estimate was, I was told I could have it repaired for the low price of $1,674 if I joined their plumbing club.
Needless to say, I asked him to leave. I called another plumber and had both issues fixed for $322.
Like I said, I wish I had looked on Yelp prior to calling them and wasting a day as this seems to be their standard operating procedure.

I had called Abacus to have a routine HVAC checkup and there was a minor leak in my attack. The tech did his review and stated I need a new system. I asked what the cost was and he told me $31,500. I'm 62 and had never paid more than $10,000 for a new system. He gave me a lot of reasons that didn't make sense and I told him to email the quote and leave. I then called Abacus to complain and got a manager. He stood by his tech. He said if you want the best service it's going to cost. I then called to speak to the owner as a friend of mine is his friend. I called and and a woman who was very nice and took all my info and stated the owner would get back to me but never did
These people will rob you blind if you let them. I had someone else come in and they fixed my problem for $250. Slightly different than $31,500
Had a brand new unit installed through Costco in October 2022, had a few issues with install but in a few visits and pushes from my end things were done as they should and parts that were initially spoken on were provided. Then came another issue with the heat part of the system not working, January of this year. I found out my heater wasn't working Thursday morning but decided to figure out if it was my thermostat before calling the issue in. Thursday night I plugged in my thermostat and figured it wasn't the thermostat but the actual new unit which was installed not even 5 mo ago. I called it in Thursday night and the appointment was made for Sat morning for Abacus to come in and check out the issue. On Sat it was discovered that it was a gas valve that would need to be reordered, since apparently parts are ordered as needed and nothing is kept in stock. They ordered it Monday and the part got delayed because of winter storms in Dallas, so it came in and finally got installed on Wed. Once the work was complete I asked for compensation for not having heat from Thurs to the following Wed, and all they would compensate me for is one nights stay for $100 and 2 years paid for their maintenance program ($99 x2 yrs) ...... first when I checked hotels at that time frame they averaged $135/night and also I don't think it's fair to not get compensated for not being able to stay warm and at home (Thurs to Wed - 7 days total). Now I'm waiting for an answer from the manufacturer of the AC system because Costco washed their hands of this..... they stated that it's either a discussion between Abacus or the AC manufacturer and not them. Still waiting for an answer from them. If I didn't spend $17k on a unit I would just let it be but I figured to put this out there in case anyone else needs to know what may happen once a unit is installed. Now I'm wondering how it will be with the warranty and all from here on out. Silvano (manager), Jonathan (Customer Service Rep) and Lance (operations mgr) - not impressed at all.
Update: received a check today for the hotel stay for 7 days - which I appreciate and it was a nice surprise after all that's been. I would have liked to settle this without writing reviews or getting the BBB on this to find a resolution but I guess sometimes it has to go to those lengths for anyone to care and provide customer service in 2023. I will still wait on the final resolution which is to include 2 years of their maintenance program paid for with the initial offer. To be continued on the maintenance plan ..... will update as needed.
Total scam. Came home to a gas leak on a Sunday afternoon. Dispatch says there is no charge for a service call, and I will get an estimate before any work is done. Tech shows up without a gas leak detector and wants to charge $1,300 to look for the leak!
They could have told me that over the phone. I would have called someone else. By not telling me, they created a situation where now I have no other option to fix it tonight. I told the tech to leave.
We will have a cold night tonight and a cold shower in the morning. But our regular, honest plumber will be here tomorrow to fix the problem. Never use Abacus, even if you are desperate. They will fleece you.

Chester Grimes arrived and gave estimate, timely and professional. Gave us several options for installation. Jose Amieva arrived following day to install hot water heater. Not an easy install, as it was in the attic. Jose and helper Jessie (?) were professional and punctual. Great job and I highly recommend Abacus.

Confusing mess with scheduling and response. Unless you have days, hours to wait around, don't call Abacus. Everyone apologizes, but nothing gets done promptly. All lies.

Excellent service. Water was backing up into the bathtubs in 2 of my apartments. Technician, Isiah, assessed the problem by checking not only my apartments but the neighboring properties. He determined the problem belonged to the city. His recommendations were right on. He communicated directly with the tenants and explained the source of the problem.
I am very disappointed in this business. I had an issue with my A/C unit not pushing out cold air. We had a technician come out and inspect the unit. He informed us the Compressor was bad, and it would be cheaper to get a whole new unit. I asked if it was the capacitor, and he said the capacitor was not the issue. He didn't even check the capacitor.
The man then quoted me $9,600 for a new unit but had a 10-year warranty on it. I told him I would have to think about it, in which he said, I'm not your financial advisor, but you'll need a new unit soon. He then charged me $199 for the diagnostic, even though I told him I was a veteran.
I called an army buddy of mine who was HVAC certified as well. He informed me my Compressor was fine, but my capacitor was dead. He then replaced it without issue, and now my family saved over 9000.
I am disappointed that this business would take advantage of a veteran and his family, especially in these hard times. I pray that no other family is taken advantage of by this company, who's main focus is to sell A/C Units and not repair them.
I even looked up the same unit that was quoted and found it to be around $2300. Unless labor is $7000, this company is taking advantage of people. My only regret is that I cannot give it a zero star.
Abacus, shame on you. Shame on you for taking advantage of people in this heat. Shame on you trying to sell me a whole unit when it wasn't needed. Shame on you for charging me $200 for a diagnostic. I hope you change your business model and think of the people you serve.

These people came out to help me with an emergency some years ago when my water heater tank ruptured. They told me there was only one option they could offer me - an expensive tankless. I did not want it, but I felt pressured by the emergency situation.
I found out some time later that they sold me a commercial grade tankless heater that was well beyond what I needed for a private home.
They also came out to give my plumbing an annual inspection, and in the process, one of their technicians broke the hot water valve under one sink. They said nothing about this to me at the time and did not offer to fix it.
I since cancelled all business with them, but they continue to send me mail-in advertisements. I have called them several times over the past months asking them to stop sending these, but they will not.
This is a company with a very aggressive policy that will take advantage of your situation or lack of knowledge to up-sell you and have tests run that are not needed. Do not use them.
I called Abacus plumbing yesterday to set up appointment to have water heater gas control changed out; the appointment was set. I took a day off work which cost money and time. I emailed several times to be told they will be out by end of day; this was after I told them I didn't want this to turn into a Im sorry we can't make it out today situation. my wife called and was told the same thing. They called around 6 and asked what my schedule looks like for tomorrow.., Do not do business with this company they don't give prices over phone and will not give you a firm time window; only to call with we had several emergency throughout the day BS excuse. They knew I only had one day and my situation.... business is so good for them to be able to treat customers like this.... Give a price estimate, time and communicate don't hide behind emails and BS crisis stories....

I'd give less if possible. Was told I needed a new unit. Was pressured into signing the agreement right then. Quote was 26k. Of course I would not, tech left in a huff. Called someone else out for a 2nd opinion. The problem was fixed very quickly by the other company. No new unit needed. Am guessing techs get commission on new units sold. Very disappointed as we have used them for years. Thankful we have found an honest AC company that took the time to find and fix the problem!
We did contact them, but never heard back. Not too surprised at this point.

I have mixed feelings here. To their credit, they are one of the few 24 hour plumbers who isn't lying. They had a tech out first thing the next morning on a holiday weekend for my leak. But their prices are abusive. In my opinion they are 3x the market price.

I had Jonathan, a technical, go to my elderly father's home to check his disposal that my father thought was not working. He arrived on time and found a seed in the disposal that was causing it not to work. We were not charged one penny. I appreciate the honesty and the kindness that was offered; in addition to not charging a service fee. I will definitely use them again and highly recommend them.

These guys are running a shady business, employ unlicensed plumbers and will cause damage to your house. You will regret doing business with them. I did not check yelp reviews before hiring them and it cost me more money and time to fix the issue that I called for. It was a mistake.
I called this company to fix a blockage in the bathroom sink p-trap in my rental property. After the p-trap was cleaned and invoiced to me and after I made the payment their technician called and said that there are two leaks, one in the faucet and other in the sink and gave me an estimate of $1400. The cost for p-trap cleaning was $110. Another thing the technician was trying to repeatedly sell their warranty and other services that I did not call for and had not interest in.
The technician did not mention anything about the leaks prior to beginning the work and when I inquired over the phone about the leaks present before he started working, he said there were no leaks before. The technician for no reason took out the supply line to the faucet and caused a leak. Later that day, I spoke to the company's Austin area manager who refused to repair the damages done by their unlicensed technician caused. When I mentioned to the manager that the technician was unlicensed, he said that he will send a licensed plumber to take look at the work, but no one ever showed up even after making repeated calls to their operators.
I had to hire another plumber and spend more money and time to get things fixed.

Okay, so the work that they did was fine, but it was a bit expensive for what it was (straightforward shower cartridge replacement). There also seemed to be a communication breakdown between the two plumbers: one came Wednesday and identified the part that they needed, a different one on Friday arrived without the part and had to come back later with it.
The thing that was a little bit annoying was that the second plumber was insistent after finishing the job that I had a persistent drip from the faucet. It seemed to be a steady stream drip when it was shown to me... the fix for this new problem was quoted at $2,600! I held off on committing to any new repairs, only to find the drip completely gone after the first use.
Just know they are going to try to upsell you. Research the repair you'll need to have done beforehand and be a smart consumer.
We booked a toilet installation for a Friday and were given a window of 9am to 6pm. At 4:30 the Abacus plumber shows up without a toilet. Even the best plumber in the world can't install a toilet without a toilet. We called the main line and was told that we would have the first appointment on Sunday so we wouldn't have to spend all day waiting again. Then on Sunday morning the plumber calls to tell us he can't find the toilet but he might be able to locate it after noon. Unfortunately the case of the missing toilet was never solved so we won't be using Abacus again.
Beware they are all fluff. Plumber came to fix a broken pipe which seemed fair but then he turned the water on with all my faucets off and the pressure broke more pipes in 5 other places. He acted like he needed to get to another appointment and quickly left. I was cleaning up water that was dripping from the dining room ceiling and heard this crash. My hallway ceiling fell down. Which I know now why he got out of there so fast. The Only thing I can think of why this happened it was done on purpose to make over $2000 for pipies their plumber broke. They also took me on a dishwasher hose for $249 when I had it there and don't even know if the dish washer worked as the electric or water was not turned on with the City at that time.
I had to contact them about the damages as their plumber did not even let them know what happened. A rude plumbing manager came out to see damage after about 2wks ( I was sick for about a week in this time so it put things on hold during that time. ) The Plumbing manager also had to tighten a pipe under the sink the plumber left loose so it was dripping before the plumbing manager came out. The plumbing manager was supposed to call the same afternoon to set up his contractor to come fix the damages. He did not. He finally called a few days later and said their contractor is booked up so they wanted to trade the cost of the damage their plumber did to my pipes for the repair of the ceiling. I have been trying to TEXT their number on their website and they won't respond and now it has been a month. They should have had my ceiling repaired in days and a water remediation out immeidately.

I needed to get my entire electric panel replaced. I put in a request on their website. They were responsive and got back to me just a few hours later.
They gave a four hour window when he would come. He came, glanced at the electrical panel for just two minutes and then went back to his truck.
He came back and gave me an estimate of $6,418 to replace the entire electric panel. That's crazy!
I asked for price breakdown and why it was so crazy expensive and he couldn't give it. Just a general estimate with the one total price.
I said no. He just charged me $199 for the two minutes he spent looking at my electrical panel to tell me the obvious: that it needed replacing.
I found a smallerz family-owned electrical company on Yelp and they were able to do it for $1,612! 1/4 the price of Abacus!
Abacus is astronomically overpriced for electrical, plumbing, and HVAC work.
What is really sketch is the big disparity between their Yelp and Google reviews. I tried to leave this same negative review on Google reviews and it never ended up showing up on the list of reviews.
They auto-flag any negative Google reviews to get them removed. Do NOT use Abacus. Use smaller, family run providers.
What a shocker that Abacus is being drug through the mud on here...
Dreadfully unorganized and unorthodox crooks. I'm shocked that they provided near 0 value in the initial assessment, only to come back with 4 options (3 cost over 15K and 1 was 6k). Whenever you called their dispatch, they never knew what the latest update was. Their manager refused to come out to complete the least expensive option because he felt the entire unit needed to be replaced.
Not the case...thank heavens we called Courtesy Air and received substantially less hassle, better service, and a more professional experience all-around. Brad from Courtesy Air immediately diagnosed the actual issue and resolved it onsite for $400 (FOUR HUNDRED). Abacus, how did you not recognize in your report that the blower in the house was working but the outside unit was not?
If you love paying 8x markups with little detail as to why, dealing with unhelpful dispatch, and dragging the process out for a week, please call Abacus.
Held me up for 3day.
This the worst customer service (plumbing) company in Houston.
They tell you, from 9am to 6pm is your window for someone to show up. 1st day, at 5pm tech was running late for an almost 6pm arrival, 2nd time tech canceled on us at 530pm and 3rd time they never called. Was promised a call from a manager and that too was a failure and a lie.
If you need a Plummer, don't use this company.
Totally unreliable.
This is one of those times I wish I had looked at the yelp reviews before calling Abacus. Avoid them at all costs as they are scam / ripoff artists. I had used them before and I was satisfied with the work they did if not the price. This Time I needed a light switch replaced, a simple job, I thought, so since there was 2 of them in the same switch cover I thought I would replace both of them. He had an estimate of $235 to replace one, which included the trip to evaluate (usually $150) which I can understand, but for 2 he just doubled the price. $470 to replace 2 light switches. that is a rip-off. I will look elsewhere when I need services.
We had no hot water in the home and I have no knowledge surrounding hot water tanks. I asked Abacus when I scheduled the call what the service call fee was and was told that estimates are free. Well, the estimate might be free but the service call was not - $225 to spend 5 minutes fixing the problem - pilot light had gone out. I will NOT be using them again. Very deceptive on not actually answering my question....

Totally took advantage of the Covid-19 pandemic.
I wonder if each of their plumbers set the rate based on what he thinks you can pay. I had a 15' repair of a pipe (pinhole leak). They charged over $700. Then said I had a bad valve in water heater (4 years old) and charged over $400 to replace that. Learned later it was a $20 part and 5 minute job. Garbage disposal quote over $400- All other quotes were around $100. Got them to come down on that a little. Plumber later admitted he works on commission and business was down 85% due to pandemic. I had other plumbing needs but decided to cut my losses. Fancy trucks, tv advertising = super high prices. I think I will report them to Attorney General. Could have had my long term loyalty but they blew it!
horrible company...use at your own peril. second or third time I had an appt and they never showed and called me 6 hours later to say the repairman doesnt work mornings????
pathetic...I guess they only had one repairman....NEVER AGAIN
Our A/C stopped cooling, so they came out and said we have a leak in our evap coil. The units were 10+ years old so I decided to go ahead and replace both with energy efficient Lennox units one upstairs and one downstairs. Downstairs works well without issue. Upstairs unit won't even drop temp at night when it's cooler. Abacus has been out 3 times now doing work on the unit and it still won't work right. Energy bill is now 3x what it was with the old units. Don't make the same mistake I did with going with this company.

If I could give them no stars, I would have. Their techs are more concerned with sales. I was told that their new policy was that I'd pick a day. They would call me thirty minutes before arrival. I asked, if they would give me a time window. I was told that it was anytime during the day. If I wasn't available, they would just go on.
I asked the representative if she could leave her job for a couple of hours, anytime she needed repairs?
They have little customer service.
I wish that I had seen their Yelp Reviews before I had a service contract. . Multiple one stars are a huge clue.
I'm going to try a company that values my time not theirs.
DO NOT call Abacus. They will absolutely attempt to rip you off. I am surprised they are allowed to practice and have not been sued. Called them to my home for A/C issue. Told me I needed my unit to be completely replaced at a cost between $17K - $23K.
Called Optimal Air Solutions for a second opinion. Told me that even if I needed an A/C replacement that it would be under $10K, but to find out that was not even the issue. They fixed the system in less than 15 minutes and I paid under $100.
Then my mother in law contacted them. She was told that her Blower and Furnace needed to be replaced. Those are actually the same thing... She was quoted $10K from Abacus. After a second opinion her system did need some work, but was less than $800. This is mind blowing crazy that they would attempt to take advantage of a senior citizen or anyone for that matter. This is reckless. Do yourself a favor and get a second opinion, better yet, do not call Abacus in the first place!!!

Abacus has rescheduled on me twice for maintenance to my AC units. Before each appointment, I received a booking confirmation, however, on the day of my appointment (which I had to stay home from work to take care of), they called me stating that other customers are having emergencies. They now claim they can't see me until June. Upon my first reschedule, I was assured by the individual making my appointment that I would not be rescheduled and I would be seen early on my appointment date - I should have known it was a lie. This company clearly doesn't care about their customers and I will not be using them in the future.
The rates are 50% more than competition. Shop for better a better quote for service and replacement. They are very misleading and could care less if you spouse is terminally ill. They quoted me $18,000 and I got the exact same unit for $8,500.00.
Awful company. We bought a Lennox 20 seer unit from them and nothing but issues. First Jeremy of the company claimed it would cool at the rooms within 1 degree difference. NOPE. My bedroom is 81-84F while the kitchen and living room are at 75F. No matter how many times Abacus comes out they don't care. They haven't bothered to install an another vent or another line or any type or fix. Instead they scheduled for a pipe cleaning tomorrow. Abacus doesn't care that I work night shift and will lose yet more sleep again Tuesday and I bet Wednesday too since they love to send out people to assess the situation. This isn't even our first issue, the first issue was the unit was as loud as a Jet when it ran. Abacus fixed that citing the project manager Jeremy didn't leave notes that we needed a larger intake even though it's standard to upgrade the intake for a four ton 20 seer Lennox system. Issue after issue with Abacus and I still get to sleep in heat at night. Awful company, buyer beware. They'll make promises and not deliver. They'll waste your time with recurring maintenance visits instead of actually resolving anything. Hope this company gets sued. Horrid. Waste of money, my previous unit cooled better than this.
I am very satisfied with Abacus! I called them yesterday afternoon around 3pm to see if they could send someone over to clear out a kitchen clog that was also backing up into our master bathroom sink. The lady that took my request was friendly and stated that they could help the next day.
First thing in the morning around 8am, I receive a call that the service tech Ali would be at my house within 45 mins. He arrived on time and after a brief discussion, he evaluated the situation and gave recommendations along with options.
We choose the option we felt good about with NO pressure ever from him! We agreed to perform the cleanup service from the inside kitchen sink area. He did a great job keeping everything perfectly clean! He even put the booties on the wheels of the cleanup machine to roll through the house! Extremely professional, polite and informative. He also explained about a plumbing maintenance plan that I had already been researching on their website. It is very affordable and offers value including flushing my water heater annually.
My first time using Abacus and I'm very happy with the plumbing side of their business thus far! Great job Ali!
Worst company ever- they are scammers. Do not trust them.
Called for a HVAC maintenance since we just moved and wanted the system tuned up/cleaned even though the system was working and cooling.
They sent a diagnostician and another guy who proceeded to quote us about $32k for a new system and that they were not willing to do any repairs except to clear the ac line (for $325). We had a second company come out, reviewed the system and they changed the capacitor for $350.
We did have Abacus cleared the ac line but proceeded to warm us that another line may get blocked during their process but that would be an additional charge. That second line had been snaked the week before and worked. After they cleared the AC line, this second line did get blocked. We then snaked the second line ourselves. Only to find white relatively clean paper towels stuffed down the line. No one uses that sink and last ones there was Abacus workers. Avoid these people!!!

I assume that in the other websites where Abacus is getting good reviews and five stars, they must be paying the website in order to filter the bad reviews.
These are not repair people, they are sales people. Literally, five minutes after arriving at our house, the guy was already offering to change the whole unit for $18K and dead set on having us apply for a credit. Nothing was repairable according to him. In reality, it was a simple $100 repair.
If you want a salesman and feel like spending a fortune, call Abacus. If you need a real AC tech, you need to call someone else.
Had a failure in a Lennox AC evaporator coil still under warranty (W
which has been the subject of a settled class action law suit). The system worked fine until this coil failed but apparently Lennox coins of this era always fail. These guys told me I needed an entirely new AC unit and furnace, quoting 7,000 and 9,000 USD depending on which system I got. They never told me about the warranty issue (and keep in mind that this is a Lennox dealer). Second and third opinions from other companies was simply install a warranty replacement coil, total cost for labor under 900 USD. So be very careful dealing with Abacus. They will try to upsell you egregiously.

We have used Abacus in the past and been mostly satisfied. Our most recent visit was dishonest and felt shady. After being in our home for 20 minutes, a very simple diagnosis and a push of a button, we were charged over $400. But don't worry, he gave us a coupon to bring the price to $350. Oh please. After reaching out to customer service 3 times, I finally heard back. I was told at the end of the day, I have to pay my guys and this is taking money away from Luis. Not everyone can do electrical work, that's why you pay for someone, even if they only pushA button. He read me the diagnosis that our technician recorded and 3 of the things were not true and did not happen. So basically the tech can document whatever diagnosis he wants to get the price where he wants. The not so understanding manager gave us a small refund.
My AC was not blowing cool air and making a horrible noise in the attic. Contacted Abacus and they sent a technician out the very next day. The tech was on time, professional and efficient in the troubleshooting. He had identified the issue to a bad motor, cage and capacitor within the unit.
He came back with the itemized list of needed repair parts, and since my unit is over 14 years old, they are hard to come by totaling 2k (without labor). My other option was a brand-new system for 6K or 12K.
I thanked him and paid the service fee, took his itemized list and searched the internet.
I found all the parts including a contactor that was not part of the original quote for less than $400.00
I immediacy called there office and terminated any service agreement with them.

Mario came out for an electrical quote, he was very nice and answered my questions.
The quote was INSANE! $13,500 to add an additional box on my home (I was out of empty slots), 200ft of copper wire connected to a small box in my shed. Another $3,3500 to trench the 200ft! 2nd quote I received from another installer was $4,500.
Highway robbery.

I had an appointment that was scheduled for 3/9/2021 but they did not show up. This appointment was scheduled two weeks in advance. I called them and was told that my appointment was rescheduled but not by me. I asked to speak to a supervisor and was told that someone would call me but of course no one called. I called a second time and was told all the supervisors were in a meeting and someone would call me back by 2pm today but of course no one did.

Our AC went out on a Friday night, in the middle of the summer heat. We made a call to Abacus in the middle of the night and we got an appointment for the next day. That was wonderful but once the tech came out, he was trying to sell us a whole new AC system. He put some part on and claimed we needed it. We decided not to do anything and paid for what the tech did. We finally got a hold of our AC man we normally use. He came out and saw what the tech did. We didn't need the part he put on and didn't need a new AC system. Our AC man fixed what was needed which wasn't much. That tech was trying to take us to the bank. Never again will we use Abacus. Sports 610 radio talks so highly of this company but they are just scamming innocent people and taking their money.

We called during the office hours, they responded within 24 hours and did okay Job with pricey cost. The office gave you the tech arrival time was between 9am-6pm. The part that they installed in the faucet looks like from old faucet, I saw the black color (kind of used part look) in the part, but the repair tech say it's a new one?! Tech just asked customer sign on his tablet with long agreement, did not explain or went thru any details, he said he will send a receipt but never got any receipt no matter how many time you called the company.
If I could use zero stars I would, absolutely DO NOT USE.
First- they came out to inspect everything a few weeks ago and tried to convince me I needed to replace my garbage disposal ( a year old) for $900....
Last week- our AC broke (it was running just not cooling) the man who came out was incredibly rude. Walked outside looked at it and said he Refuses to touch it and offered me a $10k quote to just fix the capictator and coil (our unit is not even a YEAR old) so then continued to tell me that we should replace everything for $20k.... we had another company come out and replaced it for $2k it was ALL UNDER WARRANTY still and they never even attempted to check.
They have charged THOUSANDS of dollars for literally things that can be done for $50-$100. It's a total scam and they insult you the entire time they are there. Take your money and business elsewhere.
Very satisfied with Abacus's customer service, very timely and attentive to our needs and provided a quick resolution to our home repair issues.
This place is a joke, refuses to give a quote over the phone but then will quote you an absurd price in person banking on you desperately needing them. Charges $250 to hang a simple ceiling fan. They give you a window between 9am-6pm so the window is all day. My technician was great, but quoted me $650 to hang two light fixtures and a fan. The value of the items was less they the labor cost to install them. Beyond disappointed in Abacus
WOW! Talk about trying to gouge a customer! I called to get a quote on two new AC units in my house. It was for a high efficiency units (top of the line)! I did not know that they were made of gold! The quote for a 3 ton and a 4 ton came in at almost $50k! That is outrageous! I don't care how efficient they are! I went with another company that offered almost the exact units for over $20k less! Still way more than I wanted to spend, but it was well worth it!
Dealing with Abacus made me feel like I was buying a used car from a shady dealer!

Absolutely horrendous. Prices are outrageous. Will spend more time trying to sell you things you don't need than doing the ob.
Had the best experiences with Abacus for the past few years have been excellent! Always professional, always timely and knowledgeable. All of our issues and upgrades have come with numerous options completely explained. The experience have been a breeze and reasonable. Saved our bacon on more than once!
Highly recommended.
The WORST BY FAR ! please read below
We used Home advisor to find them when the freeze hit. We know it was hard to get plumbers, but we secured a date and time and prepaid $193 for them to arrive. Not only did they NOT arrive, but two days prior they sent us a text saying that they will get to us when they can and for us to find other plumbers if possible. We were already without water for almost 10 days. I called them three days in a row. Their phone system said they were busy and could I get a call back. I said yes. No one called! And I did the same on the second day. No one called again. I even told them my reference number and still no one called by the THIRD day.
I called home advisor and canceled them.
They then sent me a text saying that they could come out during the second or third week of March! Did they really think that I could go without water in my house for one month? No one has ever called me since.
I called three local plumbers immediately and one showed up and fixed our problems within 3 hours. We now have water and showers and laundry and everything is normal.
Abacus is the WORST. Look at their ratings! DO NOT USE THEM. There are decent plumbers out there.
Paid $7224 to resolve my GFI 's Popping. Next day 2 GFIs popped and wouldn't reset. Called Austin and Houston regional managers. Both promised to resolve issue and review my $7224 invoice. A repairman called to say he was on his was but had no idea why or what the issues were,, i explained. He came for a few minutes and left. I sent a text Austin manager, no reply. Still haven't heat a word from ANYONE. Feel like I was conned, work not done properly and no on at Abacus will even call or return a text. This company will take your money. That's all they do. The can't diagnos, can't fix, can't repair and won't communicate. Worst repair service ever. Beware and don't trust anything they promise. They won't deliver and won't even talk to you once you pay them.

These guys are very dishonest. I called them out to simply tape two 8 ducts back together that had come apart in the attic. I was out of town when they came out to the house. My pregnant wife was home alone and concerned the AC might go out. The service member tried to charge her $750 for the duct work, then tried to sell her a $35 capacitor for $450. My wife didn't know the extent of the work that needed to be done. She called me when he gave her the quote of $1200 and I asked to speak to technician for clarification. He was clearly taken aback when I asked specific questions. I asked what materials and labor time is needed to tape the duct back together. He knew the gig was up. He tried to use fancy words for duct tape and zip ties. The capacitor was fine, just slightly low capacitance. I replaced it in 15 minutes for $35. I ended up zip tying and taping the duct back together in 30 minutes. Please avoid these guys.
Feel misled about needing a new a/c system replacing a unit that has 4 years of warranty remaining. High pressure sale to try to get me to replace a unit I had paid for and installed for under 6,000 with units costing 24,000 or 18,000 installed.
Called them after the freeze and the appointment wa 7 days later. Finally nine days later they sent me a text wanting to know if I still needed service. Did not even answer them! A local plumbing company came out the same day and fixed the split valve. (S & B PLMBING ON Bournewood, Sugar Land). Stay away from these guys even if it is a Tom Tynan recommended company. After reading other reviews I guess I was lucky they did not come out!!!f

I am only giving a one-star review because I have had a couple of decent experiences in the far past with Abacus. Abacus Plumbing tried to price gouge me out of $380-$700 to repair a small bedroom faucet. They offered me no explanation of the estimate and the plumber, Jeremiah Wagner was exceptionally rude and a nightmare to communicate with, refusing to explain the estimate charges. He even told me why don't I just go to Home Depot and do it myself.
In the end I had another plumber tell me that I should have been told that the entire faucet needed to be changed out, not a repair. Abacus tried to get me to fix a faucet that was beyond repair. DO NOT USE THEIR SERVICE, THEY CANNOT BE TRUSTED.

I decided to have Abacus over to check and clean my system for their BAM cooling offer. They said my units probably need replacement soon, and offered to replace my two systems for around $24,000! I declined of course, and the ysaid I needed to replace my start and run capacitors for about $1000 dollars! I also declined this offer and changed them myself for about $35 dollars on capacitors from Amazon. I understand they have trained technicians and need to pay them but this is ridiculous. I will never let any Abacus employee step foot in my home again. They insulted me in my own home far beyond forgiveness.
Unbelievably worst company ever! Don't believe what you hear about this plumbing company being the best! Charge twice what anyone else would, don't show up when they say they will. Customer service vey rude.
Scheduled appointment online Tuesday morning and selected Friday using their online tool which showed plenty availability. Received confirmation immediately that they'd arrive between 9am-6pm Friday. Received several emails and text messages Wednesday and Thursday to confirm which I did. Friday at 3pm they called and said sorry but can't send anyone until maybe Thursday or Friday next week and they'd put me in waiting list. Not cool. I made appointment but they did nit honor it. I chose them as they are advertised on Michael Berry show but very disappointed that they left me hanging. If they had notified me earlier I would have been able to pursue other options. Terrible!!!!!

Called this company based on the reviews they have received in the past. When I called I was informed that there would be an emergency call out fee of150.00, which I agreed to. Tech showed up at 1:30 am and checked a few things and determined that a thermostat was needed. Installed thermostat and unit powered on. Tech never checked to see if unit was actually blowing cold air. At 3:12 am temp was 84 and by 6:43 it was up to 91. I called the company back at 3::15am and was informed they would not come back out at this time even though I had already paid their emergency fee. Further stated that they would put me on a work list for 9 am. When I called back at 9:00am I was informed that someone would be back out here to my residence between 9am and 6pm. At 6:00pm I called Abacus once again to inquire as when someone would be here. Was told the tech will call you 30-45 min prior to arrival . I don't understand why I was charged the emergency fee of 150.00 and my unit has yet to be functioning. This is not the way to keep customers. This company will not get any recommendations from myself to be used in the future. I have also asked for management to reach out to me to discuss this situation. Time will tell if anything or anyone contacts me.
They made me wait all day just to be given an outrageous quote. I had the job done the next day with another electrical company for 1/3 the price. Worst customer service as well
In late April or early May I made a service appointment with Abacus. OK, I called late for the spring AC service. I was disappointed that the earliest time available was today, June 14. This morning I received a call saying that they couldn't make the appointment and the next earliest available time was THE SECOND WEEK OF AUGUST! I called and accepted an appointment for June 26, a Saturday - and I can't even get a four-hour window of time. I have to wait all day. I'm sorry if other people have AC problems or breakdowns. I certainly know how that feels. But, I had an appointment that was not honored, and am not happy with how THAT feels. The young lady who took my call was very nice and as helpful as she could be; my one star rating is in no way reflective of her.

With Covid-19 it is a little nerve racking to have outsiders come into your home. But sometimes it is necessary.
Today Abacus sent a gentleman named Darrell Jones out to do the regular checkup on my AC to prepare for the upcoming hot weather. Mr. Jones was on time, he was very polite, he took all precautions for my safety. He wore covers over his shoes in my home and he wore a mask. After he had me sign his tablet he even handed me a spray bottle of hand sanitizer to use since I had touched his tablet. As he left he reminded me that I should come lock up behind him.

DO NOT USE ABACUS!
I had Abacus come out and look at my AC Condenser and they recommended to replace. Abacus quoted $5700 to replace, and i was able to get it done for $3200 with a higher quality unit than they quoted.

Well a very unhappy customer here.
My Father's ac unit went out, sadly he is a handicapped senior armed my mother has late stage ALZ. That being said it got very hot quickly in their apt. I called Abbacus and a gentleman, Alan came out he quoted us $1490.00 to fix the issue(s) or a complete new unit for $8000. So we said we would have to think about it and we called another company who were here in an hour, the problem was a capacitor they replaced it and charged us $129.00
Be aware of this company I am horrified at the attempt to screw over a handicapped senior!!!!
Crazy Expensive! They were very responsive and friendly, but their quote for a very simple 30 min job was 3x more expensive than several other quotes. I was so shocked that I thought he had to have made an error. Nope, they are just expensive.
I have moved into my Mom's house that was built in 1970 to care for her. I used Abacus a few times for smaller projects and did not get multiple quotes. The technicians were always very communicative, timely, kind, considerate, and helpful. They always tidied up before they left.
I had a problem wit the AC just at the beginning of summer so I called Abacus. The technician recommended a new ac and heater. Whoa!! I wasn't prepared to spend $13,000! So I got to more companies to come out. The second company said it could be replaced for $7,000. The last company was one whose business card I found on the side of the fridge. They came out and told me they had been servicing her ac and heater twice a year for goodness knows how many years. They had not been able to reach her and assumed she had passed away (Mom is 93 and can hardly eat so doesn't answer the phone). He checked it out and came out of the attic in about 39 minutes. He said it was fixed, very small repair. Needless to say his business card is on the front of the fridge!
I am so disappointed that Abacus tried to take advantage of us. I really liked so much about Abacus but I cannot dismiss.
I needed service on my AC after an electrical surge. Turned out my control board was fried which I discovered on my own. The service guy insisted other things were fried too, but wouldn't elaborate when I asked questions. He then sent me an invoice for $1200 for a new control board and pressured me to pay for it immediately. I was hesitant and thought it was very high. So went to Amazon and found the new OE control board for only $80! That's a 1500% markup. It's clear, don't trust this company! The service men likely get commission and are incentivised to mark up prices and sell you things you don't need!
In the end, bought the control board on Amazon, installed it myself in 20 mins... AC back up and running!
Attached is the invoice I received from Abacus from earlier today.
The actual service I received from Chris and Iris was great. They were both friendly, personable & very efficient. In fact, this job took them less than 15 minutes. That's why I am having a difficult time understanding why I was charged $331.95. Without my coupon- it would have been $381.95! I don't know much about plumbing, but that seems like a hefty price to UNCLOG A SINK. I received quotes from 4 other companies, all SIGNIFICANTLY lower than what I paid Abacus. For that reason alone- I will never go back, and I will never recommend Abacus to my friends or family. As good as the 'service' was, it certainly was not worth that price tag.

Our A/C went out so we called these people. A technician came out and said our entire A/C needed to be replaced for $15,000. Or spend $1,200 on a new motor and other issues. He kept saying the whole thing desperately needed replaced. I said thank you but no thank you. I called a different company. They came out same day and found the issue to be the capacitor and it only cost $184 to replace.

This company is horrible. I should of researched their ratings before I called them. They clearly need a management overhaul and their teams retrained. I booked an appointment for this morning with an arrival time of 8am-10am for AC technician. After waiting from 7:45am-9:48am I get a call saying they don't do the work I requested. I needed to get Nest Thermostats installed and I needed some technical questions answered. This was all explained when I made the appointment. The operator said they had more important calls to handle first. He didn't care that he waisted my time this morning. The manager David said, it happens. He even said it happened to him when he purchased tires before. WTF! SMH. Unbelievable.
Called to give me a quote for new a/c units. I took off, met them at the appointed time. Alan asked me allot of questions but kept having to call his manager about the job. As though he had no idea what he was doing. He asked me about my home, told him flooded with Harvey. He says he can't help me nor offer me an estimate because we flooded. As I sit on hold to complain and their company hold message claims they're the leader in honesty and integrity! Been through enough already and now lost a day at work, just terrible

We had a 3:00 - 6:00 appointment window earlier this week with a promise that I would be called 30 minutes before the tech's arrival. At 5:53 I called Abacus as we had not heard from them and was told that the tech was not yet available and we would receive a call when he was. This pattern repeated itself through several telephone calls from me to Abacus until I finally cancelled the appointment out of frustration - just after 9:00 PM. Not once during this ordeal did Abacus call me to offer an update.
We have an appointment with S&B Plumbing this afternoon which, incidentally, is much higher rated on Yelp. Shame on me for not consulting Yelp before calling Abacus. I won't make that mistake again.
Easy to get a next day appointment but their prices are insane. They charge 450 dollars for a part that can be purchased for under 100 at any Walmart, Home Depot, etc. The technician also tried to sell me extra parts that were not necessary. Service was fine but will not use again nor would I recommend to others.
Miguel Sanchez was able to perform an HVAC inspection on a recent AC install from another company that was a bad install and violated 5 building codes from what I know as it isn't hard to figure out flexible AC ducts should not touch the furnace exhaust pipes aka flues as the ducts may catch fire. Miguel found 7 more violations and advised me to call TDLR and pass along his report. He mentioned the Texas Dept of Licensing and Registration process gives AC companies 3 to 5 days to correct the problem or they lose their license. Hopefully I won't need to go to small claims now. I recommend using Abacus to verify your AC install from another company to insure they did it right. I called at 11:30pm Saturday night and Miguel was at my house 9am Sunday. Best $125 I've ever spent. Perfect.

I have a clogged kitchen drain. Got a quote for 560 dollar to unclogged. Their guys might be great but charging 2-3 times the going rate is way too high. So I had to pay the 50 dollar service fee to not accept the work. What a time wasted.
Every time Abacus talks me into a year inspection contract, I forget and sign up. All they do is want access to your equipment so they can try to sell you equipment. I bought top of the line hvac equipment 8 years ago and do twice yearly inspections.
Does anyone know an A/C / heater company that isn't trying to sell you parts?
I do not trust that this company is not all about sales.

Our AC was leaking water to the condo below us. Called Abacus and explained the situation, they said they'd have someone come the next day. Felt relieved, stopped calling around for quotes, and waited while trying to contain the water leakage. 24 hours elapse and receive a call that they won't come because they do not service condos, for liability reasons. Understand what they're saying but don't understand why it took 24 hours to let us know. It's now Sunday afternoon, both my wife and I need to treat patients in the hospital during the week, and we're just going to try to contain it ourselves until next weekend. Thanks Abacus!
The Technicians that come out to your home are excellent and I did not mind paying the higher prices for the great service. Customer support was always great as well, However, I am giving 3 stars because we have used Abacus for several years but when it came to the freeze this past February and I needed a plumber desperately we called them because we had a maintenance contract with them. We never got through to anyone. Left 5 messages over two weeks, NEVER got a call back until about 4 months later and it was just because they wanted to do our inspection. When they called the other day and I told them I took my business elsewhere they did not even care to ask why.
We called Abacus for a coil cleaning and were quoted $79. My husband made sure to verify that it was for a coil cleaning and was told that it was indeed. However, on the day of our appointment, Abacus called to tell us 1) that the representative would be late and 2) that we had been misquoted. The $79 fee was a diagnostic fee. What?! Then when the representative arrived and was told that we wanted a cleaning and not a diagnosis, he insisted that he could not even enter the home unless we agreed to pay the diagnostic fee. Obviously, we sent him away. Not a good way to do business.
My short experience with Abascus was enough for me to to know that they couldn't be trusted so I didn't hire them. For an hour the electrician tried to talk me into doing what was the most profitable for him, instead of focusing on my issue as a customer.
The power was out in part of my home. I knew it could have something to do with the breaker but know 0 about electricity and my husband wasn't home so I didn't want to touch anything (don't judge). We also had a few things to repair around the house so I thought calling an electrician would be an opportunity to have everything fixed.
Anyway, I called and someone came the next day. The electrician spent about an hour inspecting, gave me a comprehensive list of things that had to be urgently fixed (several thousands dollars) but nothing regarding my issues. Despite me repeateadly asking about it, he kept on talking about other things, without clear explanations that would justify the urgency of these repairs. Annoyed, I asked him to leave and to send his quotes by email.
When my husband came back the next day he reset the breaker and everything worked again (I know, I'm embarassed). We still have things to fix but I know it won't be with Abascus. There were several ways for the electrician to handle the situation and he chose the worst.
We discovered water leaking out the side of our house from inside the wall, coming from our bathroom. The plumber showed up as promised but proceeded to rip tiles out of our wall around our bathtub fixtures, stripped the screw for the faucet handle, guessed that the leak was coming from under the tub, and quoted us over $3000 to pull the tub out and fix the leak. And charged $470 for absolutely nothing. We decided to get a second opinion from another company and sure are glad we did. It took him no time at all to pinpoint that the leak was actually coming from behind our dual sinks. My husband and I are absolutely livid over our experience with Abacus and will never recommend them to anyone else. Now we're left with a torn-up wall and fixture that we have to shell out even more money to repair.
Needed a switch replaced and was told that my fairly new home needed new breakers and a completely reconfigured breaker box. The electrician was visibly agitated when I balked and told me to get second opinions, that any electrician will tell me the same. Well, I did get 2 more opinions, and neither agreed that this work was necessary! Basically told me that they were trying to sell me services that I didn't need!

This company is a complete fraudulent business. They will tell you that you need to replace the entire system. Their estimate was 8-11k to replace a 2.5T ac system on a condo. Any other company charges half the price. Also, they send you a report that should contain the serial number of your unit and other information but the pictures attached are random pictures of your kitchen.
Complete waste of time and money. Stay away from these people.

One year ago I would have never left this review BUT my goodness has this company changed. They installed a water heater for me in early 2020, before the world shut down. Perfect customer service. On 4/6/21, I called because I had an issue with the water heater. I called after 5pm CT because that's when I got home from work and noticed the issue. Not one person answered. After 4 minutes each time on hold, the recording sends you to a voicemail. After the 3rd time, I left a voicemail. As of 4/7 at 5pm, no one has returned that voicemail. I called separately on the morning of 4/7/21 and was able to get an appointment but no time or time frame. Finally at 4:40pm CT on 4/7 they call to say they can be on their way and to call back. 11 phone calls and 3 text later to Abacus- NOTHING!!!! Straight voicemail and silence. When I finally got thru to a human, it was an answering service that just passed my call to dispatch. Unbelievable!!! Do. Not. Waste. Your. Time.
I sent an appointment request via their website and received a confirmation of my request saying a dispatcher will contact me shortly....they had my email and my phone but I never heard back so had to go with another company
Scheduled a new electric short boy water heater to be installed 7/30/18. Despite my stressing to the company rep about the short boy, even sending photos, showed up with a normal size heater. The sidekick repair guy made a comment about if there was a magic door because he didn't like the access. They said they could not get a shortboy without 3 weeks notice. They did call around and found one that they could install that day.
When I asked if it was a Rheem, they said they didn't know. I asked if it was a 40 or 50 gallon. They didn't know. Asked if there was a price change. No price change. Asked about a warranty, they didn't know. I cancelled. See my page for a good company recommendation.
Scam alert! Called to get a drain line cleared for my AC unit. Technician showed up and announced we needed an all new AC system, it was rusty and moldy and gas was leaking from it. Uhhh....what? We had just had it looked over two years ago by Abacus who said while the coils were a bit rusty, it still looked pretty good. I doubt in two years it would be in that bad of a condition.
The lowest, most loathesome tactic was telling us that because we had kids (he GASPED aloud and was over the top dramatic) we needed to fix the danger right away. For $11,000!!!!
I am seething mad. I paid $50 to have a dishonest technician come and make a sales pitch for an AC unit we don't need. We will never, ever use them again.
I'm new to Houston and I had a major leak after only living in my home for 10 days.
Not knowing whi to call I used Abacus
I remember a TV commercial.
Glad I did. I had to call at 6pm on a Saturday night. To my surprise they only have one dispatch fee $49.99
Not much for after hour call.
The leak was repaired and he tech cleaned everything.
The service, the personal and the office were all terrific I highly recommend Abacus to anyone needing plumbing help.
I would have given 5 stars but the repair cost was a little high.

This company is very responsive and their technicians show up on time and are very professional. That's about all I can say that's good about this company. They're ridiculously expensive. Any time they come out they tell you that you need a new system and that system is going to be an exorbitant amount of money! Their techs are obviously commissioned or told to try and upsell as much as possible. They gave me a quote of $450 to replace a capacitor on my ac unit. The part is literally $40 or less. I'm all for running a business and making a profit, but there's a difference between making a profit and price gouging.

My toilet was not running and the toilet seat I bought and installed myself is the wrong size,I have a hard time removing the stupid seat.
when the plumber came, first he removed it for me ,then fixed my toilet not running problem.
yes,it is pricey but you get what you paid for.
good job.
For starters, I have never written a negative review before; however, the deceptiveness and quality of Abacus's performance on my furnace and ductwork repair has finally pushed me over the edge.
I contacted Abacus on Monday, Feb 26th requesting inspection/repair for our upstairs heater that was not working. A technician arrived at our house an hour later and spent 30 minutes looking over the system before saying that, due to overheating, the internals (circuit board, limit switches, etc) had burned out and would need to be replaced which they estimated at $1500. They also recommended that we do some repair work on the ductwork in our attic (straighten ducting runs, reduce crimping, install air mixing boxes, etc) which they estimated at $1300. I agreed to the plan and while the costs seemed on the high side, I was excited to have this all repaired and the issue behind us.
As they were scheduling the repairs for Wednesday, they requested upfront payment for the work and stated that they needed confirmation to get the parts. All the info / payments were handled on a handheld tablet which they only showed to me for signatures (when the rest of the screen was blacked out) so it was not until I received the invoice (in my junk mail 2 days later) did I come to learn that they had signed me up for a $99 membership that I was not told about nor did I want. Not only did they mislead me on the invoice, they forged my signature (very poorly) on the membership explanation sheet. To me this is a violation of trust, extremely unethical, and quite possibly illegal.
When the Abacus folks returned on Wednesday to perform the furnace and ducting repair that I had already paid for, they showed up an hour late and completed the job in one hour. When I asked what had been repaired on the ductwork, they said that one run (3 ft) had been straightened and that they hadn't been able to reach anything else. When confronted with the price for that repair they said that they were not authorized to negotiate price and that I would have to contact management. They again handed me a handheld tablet to sign on (with no context) and left the house. At no point did the crew demonstrate to me that the heater was functional nor did they show me any of the ductwork repairs that I paid for (luckily I had taken before and after photos).
For three hours after the crew left, I have had the thermostat upstairs set to heat (85 degrees while the ambient room temp is 73 degrees) and not once has the furnace turned on - the heater obviously still does not work. In addition, the ductwork repairs which were supposed to help increase airflow left all but one 3 ft section in identical positions. I feel like I have been lied to and robbed by the people at Abacus. Dealing with this company has been hands down the worst customer experience of my life. If you are considering repair, replacement, or other work, save your time, money, and sanity and take your business elsewhere.
Worse than car saleman - $491 and half day wasted. Somehow they got 5 star and a ton reviews on BBB - I don't believe it. I'm sure Yelp has the real customer rating.
CenterPoint already tested and located the gas leak inside the wall. However, Abacus was all about selling and getting the most money out of me with little regard to fixing my gas leak. After the round about up selling, I just asked their plumbing guy to leave. I still don't know where the leak is and got hit almost $500 but I refuse to further business with these shady practices.
Did great work! We continue to trust and use them for all plumbing issues in our home!!
THE WORST. I made an appointment through Lowe's, and even though someone called me right away to confirm, THEY NEVER SHOWED UP. I called the office right before the window closed to get an update and the woman on the phone said she will check and call me back. Almost two hours later I call the man that made the appointment initially, he also said he would check and call me back. He never did either. Then it was after 6pm on a Friday and I had to try and find someone else last minute. I hope these people go out of business, leaving Houstonians in the heat in the middle of June.
I suppose these guys do decent work, but it's kind of irrelevant because you'll pay through the NOSE for it. Three years ago they replaced an AC condenser fan with an aftermarket fan. $640. The fan recently went out again. One of their competitors replaced it. $420. Should have learned my lesson then...
We also are currently collecting quotes to replace our old R22 system. We invited four vendors to quote. We provided a specification for them to quote. 4 ton, single stage, 16 SEER, media filter, with coils and furnace. We got three quotes in the $6500 to $7,000 range. Then there was Abacus' quote. $11,800. Ugh. I asked the salesperson to justify why he was so expensive. He said sure, a small company will be cheaper. Large companies are more expensive because it costs us more to do business. Hogwash. Exactly the opposite is true. Everyone knows that large companies have competitive advantage through their size and purchasing power. Then there was the we don't use subcontractors sales pitch. Why do I care if subcontractors are used so long as work is done to code? The salesperson kept trying to sell this quality premium to justify his price. Now, I do understand that. I own a business and I am a premium service provider and I charge extra for it. I am more expensive than my competitors. But I'm not almost double the price, for crying out loud! You may be able to justify a 10-15% brand equity premium, but not 70%. This is a HVAC contractor! Not Gucci or Prada! We won't be buying from Abacus ever again.
I read the reviews and decided to give them a chance due to the 24/7 service. Our ac went out during the night Sunday so I called at 5am Monday to setup an appointment and they gave a window between 8-10am which was ok with me I understand it is their busiest time of the year. At 7:30 my pregnant wife was at home waiting and she asked me to home because it was already getting to hot for her. When I got home Mike (service tech) from Abacus contacted saying he would be there around 8am. He arrived on time and did his assessment, he came to me with the information in the photo, basically saying he could fix what he thought was wrong with it but couldn't tell me for certain that the unit would work that was $4k quote. He then explained that he air conditioner was old which I knew and it would be best to replace it. He then told me my ac options the first one being $25,000 and then the last one being $12,000 with two or three in between dropping in price about $5k each time. I talked it over with my wife and decided to call her brother who worked in the hvac industry. He said those quotes seemed high and he would come look at it soon. We told Mike we would think it over I paid the $50 service and he left. While waiting for my brother in law I called a few other places all of which quoted me from $5k to $7200 for an entirely new unit!!! My brother in law drives two hours from where he lives to check the unit and he replaced the capacitor ($30) because he had one on his truck. He unit fired up and works great. I understand they are operating a business and they make money from customers, but I feel as though they should focus on good service and honesty versus trying to up-sell and turning customers off and making them write these reviews potentially costing them business. My advice get a few other quotes from a few businesses before making a huge decision and wasting large amounts of money.

I've used Abacus for my plumbing and electrical needs for years. They are always responsive and every technician that has come out has been knowledgeable and honest. I can trust Abacus when they recommend a certain service.
Do not use this company. Way over charged and they don't tell you about any additional charges until after they have screwed up. Charged almost 1k to fix a leak that started leaking 2 days later. Beware their reviews on their website are fake.
I schedule a visit which was easy to do but, when the tech came he went straight to the outside unit, and just by looking at it said it was the wrong unit and the only solution was for us to replace it. I am not against his assessment but the way he did it. It looks like an easy sale for him. I won't call them back and won't recommend them based on this experience, not saying they're bad but the guy did not even take the time to learn from me what the issue was, in fact, he said is an issue with all new houses in the area which I don't believe.
I had two water heaters replaced for $5000. I was in a hurry so I did not get a second quote. Their tech that quoted me cited additional work due to the location in my attic as to the reason for the high price. Turns out they did none of the extra work. Getting a follow up quote later I found this job should have been $3500. These guys did adequate work and finished when they said they would, but please get a second quote. You will be glad you did.
Worst company. In light of the ice storm my pipes froze. I made an appointment online on 2/16 for 2/18, there were plenty of openings at that time. Recieved confirmation and everything, I have yet to see them and my latest update is they won't make it till early March. I'm fully aware of our city's situation and plumbers are busy but that's insane and incomprehensible to not be able to get to someone for several weeks. So sad and terrible way to do business. Stay away!!
