Customers beware!
I had a quote provided by this company yesterday for some recessed lighting in a few rooms. These rooms included the family room, kitchen and living room. Each room was to have dimmer switches installed with a total of 17 recessed lights. Our house is a rancher with easy access to the backside of all ceilings through an attic accessible by permanent stairs - the easiest method of access imaginable.
We were absolutely shocked at the quote of over $6,000. We were so shocked that we called the company later in the afternoon for them to confirm that there wasn't some sort of mistake made on the quote. A woman called back to confirm the number was indeed correct. I was really upset at the thought that my project would be so much more money than I originally anticipated. It actually ruined my day.
Today I had another licensed electrician come out and quote us for the same job, including some additional work on some outlets that need to be looked at, for just $1,620. Though he is typically super busy, as confirmed by our general contractor who recommended him, he can do the work in just one day with a helper tomorrow!
I can't recommend Wes Carver Electric based on what appears to be price gouging despite the positive reviews on here. In fact, the positive reviews on here is what inclined us to give Wes Carver Electric a call. We were left with a very bitter taste for giving them a chance to quote our work and will not call again in the future.
Words of wisdom to all: Always get additional quotes and don't reward companies that try to make weekly money in a day. This price was so high that it gave me a nose bleed. Customers beware!
Edit to respond to response:
I appreciate your cordial response, but I think you've missed an opportunity to address the real concern. My concern was not that your service uses inferior products or that your employees are uneducated in their trade; rather, my concern was that your pricing is unethical, which you did not specifically address.
Perhaps you did not because it is difficult to defend the breakdown of the costs associated with this job. Even if you had to put 20 hours into it, which would be a generous allotment of time, and say $1k in materials, which is overstating the materials cost by a ton, you still can't make this job make sense for $6k. Simple math puts the net hourly rate with your quote under that scenario at $5000/20 = $250 per hour. Mind you, that would be at minimum what you'd be charging hourly because the estimate was in fact over $6k, and there's no way you'd need $1k in materials or even 20 hours to do this job.
I normally don't leave reviews, and I've had some experiences with bad quotes with other companies before, but this takes the cake by a long shot. In fact, I've overpaid knowingly for some services to get what I wanted or needed when it was justifiable. But there's no way I can justify $250+ per hour for this. Honestly, can you even justify it? You're not a surgeon. You're not a lawyer. You're not even in a trade that merits the rate of an off-hours plumber. Your cost is completely exploitative, and I hate to think of the financial trouble you've left other customers in who have unwittingly paid for your services at these rates.
As you can tell, I'm really unhappy that your company attempted to overcharge my family by that much with this quote. Standing behind your pricing not only once but now twice doesn't make it any better for me. I really suggest you rethink your business model to accommodate the hardworking families in the area. While we make more than enough to afford the service of an electrician, we'll never be irrational enough to pay these rates. I hope others see this review and save themselves the grief of being shell-shocked by a quote like this.
