Ok so at 930 pm my smoke alarms went insane-  there was nothing I could do to turn them off.  I tried everything and by 10:30pm was calling and googling and trying to find an electrician to help.

This was one of the first places I found that would send someone over right away two and a half hours later at 1 am - an extremely competent and nice man named Guy came over. He fixed the alarms almost immediately.  He was AMAZING - such a very nice man.

It was very nice that Guy came over so late at night, fixed the problem immediately and was in and out within a half hour.  He was a professional and very by the book, which was appreciated.

My dryer stopped working due to a faulty connection. I called Thomas edison to come out and give me a quote. I should have gone with my instincts and said forget it when they said there was a $95 charge just to come out and look. When the electrician arrived, he was very professional. He told me the 220a wire going to my dryer should be replaced, which meant fishing wires through the ceiling. They quoted $1400 to go 25'. I told them I wanted a second opinion. They called me to follow up as soon as he left and lowered it to $1100. I still insisted on a second opinion.  After having another electrician come out, he said the wire did not need to be replaced. It was repairable. And done so for $300.

Thomas Edison is definitely taking advantage of consumers with their coming out fee and their overcharging. Be cautious.

Thomas Edison does the job very well. They are very responsive and keep me posted regarding the entire progress. Will definitely work with them in the future when I need things they can do. The electrician arrived on time and finished the job in time. They even charge me less than the estimate when they realize they can do less to fix the issue.

Where do I start? Is it the $100 fee they charge for just coming out or is it when they finally get here they charge another $250 to diagnose the problem? Oh might I add, the wrong problem. These guys were gonna charge me $7500 to replace a whole new panel because my kitchen stove and microwave short circuit. I asked the guy is there any temporary fix I can do now? He said plug your oven into a new outlet. So, what do I do? I get a second opinion. Second electrician comes and I tell him what the Thomas Edison Electric was gonna charge me and he laughs! Then goes to tell me that there is nothing wrong with my circuit panel. He then finds a circuit box, opens it up, fixes a couple wires, and ABRAH KADABRAH! My electricity is back on and it cost me $250 bucks. These guys will drain you dry! Do not let them and get multiple opinions!

Would give no stars if I could.

Asked us to prepay $1,000 for a simple problem. I can't believe how badly these people take advantage. It's so unethical. Rude, unfriendly, and bad business practices. Edited to add that they just called me back from a blocked number being super shady and rude immediately after i posted this review ! The guy refused to tell me his name but still wanted to come out. What? Stay away from this company.

Edit: after this review was posted I've been called 5x! Now they are harassing me. Google this company - you'll see a CBS expose about their unethical business practices.

They came out today to fix a loose wire on my outlet for my stove. They charge a 95 dollar fee just to show up, and then proceeded to tell me the problem was going to be 860 dollars to fix... I wrote that I wouldn't recommend them on the survey they asked me to take. I was then called 4 times in five minutes so I could be told they would take 60 dollars off the price. These guys are price gougers, and I wouldn't recommend them.

I hired them to do an emergency service call for an outlet that was repeatedly tripping. After reading their poor reviews online, I decided to cancel the service visit. Unfortunately (and perhaps suspiciously) they still showed up, so I decided to hire them.

They charged $225 for the service call which included no work (one worker came).  They then convinced me to pay them $675 to do about 45 minutes of testing. They did not identify the problem.

In retrospect, they vastly over charged me ($900 whereas $300 would have been more fair).  I only agreed to it under pressure as I was concerned about potential fire risk. They could have easily alleviated this risk by telling me that the outlet was GFCI, but chose not to provide any advice in favor of promoting their overpaid service.

While their overcharging was legal, I would recommend never hiring them.

Vasyl is a true professional. One room on my property had no power and he was able to troubleshoot and fix the short. He fixed several outlets throughout the house and it is now up to code and has passed inspection. Thomas Edison Electric does excellent work. They have the fastest response time in the Philadelphia Area and when it comes to solving complicated electrical issues I would not put my faith in anyone else. Thomas Edison Electric is my preffered electrical contractor because they stand by their work, and I have never had any problems after they have said the job is finished. I have hired other electricians in the past, only to find out I have to readdress issues that they never fixed properly. Highly Recommend!

Ultrafast, Responsive, White Glove Emergency Electricians for Philly

Thomas Edison Electric are the people to use for immediate emergency work and top notch craftsmanship.  Their IT systems, call centers, and call back times might remind you of Amazon.com.  We lost power Saturday night because of an electrical fire in our breaker box (thank god the fire was just in the box).  Vasly came within 1 hour and worked OVERNIGHT from 10 PM to 8 AM.  He got our power back by replacing our service panel with quality Siemens parts.  He was a gentleman that cleaned up and stuck around to explain the completed work.   They'd get all 5's if they can be much more competitive on price (they are priced for 365 24/7 service).  They were generous on the project by not charging for the breakers.  They also are standing by us for the insurance claim with photos and specific details on the damage.

The electric work done was neglectful.  They put a new light switch and turned the breaker on the light switch off.  We smelled wire burning immediately.

A few hours later our smoke alarm bells went off indicating that somewhere there was smoke.  We turned the light switch off as that was the only thing that had changed.
And then no alarm went off after that.

Contacted Thomas Edison and the electrician said he would stop by in the morning.

The electrician showed up and spent another 30 minutes.  The thomas edison electrician came with a very unprofessional attitude and said nasty unprofessional words stating that the smoke bells had nothing to do with his wires.   Yet came and worked on it for 1/2 hour.

The amazing part is that he charged $1700 for a 1/2 hour job of wiring a switch.

Gouging would be the right word for this charge.

Vasyl was timely and very helpful.  After successfully diagnosing the issue, he continued to stay to educate me about the various components of my electrical system and even helped me understand how the wiring worked.  A++++

Thomas Edison Electric did a thorough job. I've been overwhelmingly pleased with the outcome. Their work was meticulous, and done in a very professional manner. They were punctual, courteous, and the electricians were neat and clean. I would HIGHLY recommend them to anyone.

I had one dead outlet in a circuit.  The company charged $618 to reconnect a hot wire that blew loose on a GFI outlet in the other bathroom!  The electrician was here for less than 30 minutes!   I am currently disputing the price.

FYI they take a impression of your credit/debit card before they can start the work (RED FLAG) and they will not take personal checks.  In order for them to do the work today you HAVE to sign a waiver of right to cancel payment (RED FLAG)...   I specifically stated on the phone this is not an emergency and there is no urgency so I have no clue why the bill was $600+...

After this experience I did some extensive research and apparently they were on the local news for ripping off a 91 year old man for $30,000 and they didn't even fix the problem.  Google the phrase, Big Repair Bills from Thomas Edison, a local news story covered by consumer reporter Jim Donovan of CBS to the see video and read the article.

EDIT:
I got the price reduced to $450 after being EXTORTED into giving them a 5 star rating with positive feedback...  A few weeks after the transaction I had the credit/debit card canceled and I opened a new checking account to transfer my money to SO NOW I CAN FINALLY VOICE MY TRUE OPINION without fear of them charging my account the difference(they have your credit/debit card impression)...

I guess this is what I get for trusting the google reviews which you are reading now...  These ratings are worthless and they don't mean a thing...  I wouldn't be surprised if all these positive reviews were a result of the same tactic they used on me...  Beware, you are warned!

We recently contacted Thomas Edison due to an issue with the main breaker at my mother in laws (senior citizen). Being this was an issue that occurred on a weekend we suspected there would be a premium to have someone come out. After speaking with their call center and arranging for someone to come out I asked them to call me first so I could meet with them to explain the issue. I never did receive that call but did receive a call from my mother in law saying the man was there. I told her not to agree to anything until I had an opportunity to speak to the gentleman. When I arrived I spoke to the electrician who was a pleasant enough. He showed me some outside wires that needed to be addressed due to cracked insulation. Quoted price to repair was $5000.00. To repair the breaker, what we originally called about, he wanted to replace it with refurbished part for $ 1800.00. Thinking that these prices were way out of line even for an emergency call,  we declined to have the work performed, paid the service call fee and thanked him for his time. Come Monday I contacted a licensed electrician I have used in the past who was unavailable over the weekend. He came out and checked the wires and the breaker.  He did confirm that the wires should be repaired. That was also brought to our attention by the Thomas Edison tech so we appreciate that. We had him fix the wires and he replaced both the box and breaker with new parts for nine times less than what Thomas Edison would have charged her. Was Thomas Edison pricing excessive... you can decide but for me I would never use or recommend this company. As for that best of Bucks thing, consider the source.

My Mother called for service at 7:30 am.  She was told that they would be here between 9 and 11.  At 11:30 we called again because no one had shown up yet and no call.  The ad in the phone states 15 minute emergency response 24/7 on time or free.  Your service call is free.  At noon a man called and said that it would be 500 dollars to come out and fix the problem.  I asked about it being free and was told that they would take off the fee for coming out which was 150 dollars.  That Patrick would be here between 2 and 2:30.  I called back once again and asked about the ad and it being free if they were late and was told that they would not do the work to find someone else to do it.  They don't work for free.  I'm sorry but the ad states on-time or free, not let us give you another time and take a part off the price.

I wish I had read Paul's review before agreeing to engage this company. This company charged me am exorbitant amount of money for a minor repair. I was charged some emergency fee of $125 for a non-emergent situation and an additional $125 for twenty minutes of work. People complain about lawyers - but these guys charge $250 for twenty minutes of work...or 750 an hour! Most egregiously, they are not up front with the costs until they perform the work, at which point the customer is not in any position to decline service or negotiate a fair price that does not include a $125 surcharge.

On a positive note, the technician was friendly and did a competent job.

We called Thomas Edison at 7:31 p.m. on a Saturday night and by 7:40 p.m. the dispatcher had someone call us back to let us know our time frame of between 8-10 p.m. At 8:20 Vasyl arrived. Mind blown. The customer service up until this point was already super amazing, but when Vasyl got here he somehow magically made our electric work without even touching anything. Swearing to him were either haunted or something had to be wrong, he helped us work out an issue with one of the outlets in our spare room that had blown the power to our upstairs. A quick replacement to the outlet and no more ghosts. But in all seriousness, their customer service is so on point. Vasyl could not have been any nicer. He even made sure the outlet color he had on him was going to be okay for us in that room. Absolutely fantastic and highly recommended by our family. Give these guys a call. You won't be disappointed.

I requested an estimate of a repair and was told that the cost estimate would be onsite and the cost would be $125.  I knew the repair that was needed and the retail cost of the parts was less than $100.  The technician was very courteous, professional and arrived on time.  His quote was about $1100.  I declined and paid the $125 fee to know that the part needed to be replaced which is what I knew before I made the call.  I called another electrician and he replaced the part in less than one hour for significantly less.

I called the company on 6/8/16 regarding a service cable that had been torn down from the house. The technician was rude to say the least. He was not helpful or considerate of my situation. I had half a house working and he wanted to schedule an appointment. I only called due to an emergency (only 1/2 of the house working) He was rude and not helpful at all. .

Worst experience ever:
1.There is a schema how to mislead customer to wait over 7 hours and overcharge over 300%. Original request for an appointment was prior to 7 am. Original appointment was set in 8-10am window. Electrician called after 1pm and requested for $348 conduct test fee  and labor will be extra.
2.After you set an appointment you will receive a phone call from sales guy with phone number on caller id blocked and displays UNKNOWN so there is no way to call back.
3.I received a call from UNKNOWN guy who provided his email:  'tom@thomasedisonelectric…'
After I refused to ELECTRICIAN conduct test fee of $348 he was threatening me to charge my credit card of $129 call fee.
Below is a quote from their website:
If we are late, the service call is FREE, without exception or excuse! bit.ly/ZYhhWG
facebook.com/ThomasEdiso…
4.I was able to complete the project for the fraction of the test fee and I will never contact this service again.

Horrible. Horrible. Horrible is not enough. They blackmail people to provide good reviews to them or else will leave the work undone! If I could give them no stars I would!!!
I have a doctors office in the area that had an electrical fire that shut down my electric.,water& heat on the coldest day I.e. On Tues JA n 7 th & they made me fire my electrician on the job, promising me that they would
have me powered up in a day & up & running. They charged me emergency charges & also told me that they knew the township inspector & Peco & it hey would def have it done in a day. Being in the neighborhood I went along with them only to be in a nightmare situation
It has been 6 days post the event & still no power. In fact even the underwriters certificate was not sent in to Peco for them to come out & install the meter!
They also blackmailed me to sign new contracts & 100% satisfaction signatures or else would not call the fire inspector to ok the work performed!
Horrible nightmare & Fraud  & would never recommend anyone using them ever!,

This is the most dishonest company I have EVER dealt with.  I have been wanting to warn people to never call them.  We had flickering lights in our home.....we called PPL, but didn't hear from them, so we called Thomas Edison Electric. The electrician came around 8 p.m. The first thing he wanted was my credit card.  That should have been a red flag.  Lesson Learned! He told us to unplug everything, and then he shut the breakers off.  He and my husband checked the box outside.....discovered it wasn't that.  Saw that a wire was split, and it was on the PPL side.  He was here for maybe a half hour.  Our charge.......$611!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  He already had my credit card, so there was nothing I could do about it at that point.  The next day I called and asked to have the owner call me.  I don't remember who called me back, but I told him how upset I was.  He said he would give me a $200 refund if I would give them a good review!  I agreed, but didn't do it.  I just couldn't.  They are crooks.  I will never deal with this company again, and neither should anyone else.  I have all documentation for this incident, and am still paying for it.  I want to give them ZERO stars, but if I did, I couldn't post.  But they are CROOKS!!!!!

I would not give even a single star!!
The service we needed was performed on the Sunday before Labor day. The ads proclaim No extra charge for Sunday or holidays and none was shown on the invoice. However, the replacement of our electric panel and remounting the outside meter in a new box was $2500 higher than the insurance company would pay. Insurance allowed $3300, they charged $5888.  Other contractors who've looked at the work told us the insurance allowance was generous, and comparable services advertised on Angie's list indicate this to be correct. The job can be spec'd by using a trade manual for time and materials. They will not give you a breakdown for time and materials, which I repeatedly requested. The first indication of a questionable transaction is that they required payment in full before performing the repair. Unfortunately the lady who approved the repairs (not the home owner) was scared by the description from the technician who told her it's a fire hazard and if someone had touched the panel, they could have been blown across the room.  This is not a company that you would want to do business with, unless paying a premium price is acceptable.
