Three years prior my basement flooded. The best guess at the time was my drains were tied into the sewer and a clog in the line caused them to backup. A sewer scope found the blockage in the sewer but was unable to find the spot where the rain drains tied in so the actual root cause was never determined. The whole line was bad but I replaced only the section that plugged up to save money until I could afford to fix it properly. Since then the basement stayed dry despite multiple heavy rains. Once I saved enough I had Black Rock Underground replaced my sewer pipe in May 2022. They were hired by the city to work on the main sewer line for the block, I didn't know much about them but because my sewer line tied into the one they were already working on they only charged be $2,800 to replace my whole line!!!  
A few weeks after replacing the sewer pipe it flooded again (we had record braking rain fall). I figured it was because they had to disconnected my rain drains in order to meet the city's current codes. I knew the codes and didn't blame them for it, it had to happen.
After researching the different options to reliably waterproof the basement I finally called them a few weeks ago in hopes they remembered something about the work that might help me decide the best fix. They immediately offered to come investigate. Britt came out, scoped all my drains, put water down them, located them and marked their depth. I had paid two different companies for the same service Britt did back when it first flooded, both were unhelpful so I didn't expect much. I'm not sure if the other guys didn't know what they were doing or just didn't care but I was blown away by Britt's feedback, he genuinely cared and went above and beyond my expectations trying to figure out the root cause. His feedback was extremely helpful, insightful, and thorough. I'd praise him more but I'm tired of typing. I want to buy this guy a beer!! THANK YOU BRITT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I recently had a complete sewer line installed at my
home. Black Rock had been highly recommended by
top producing realtor friends in Portland. Their bid was
concise, the work was performed on schedule and
responses to questions were immediate

Installation was on an extremely rainy day with it being
necessary to bring a backhoe across a very soggy lawn.
They properly protected the lawn and cleaned the entire
area, including the street, at completion.

My standards are very high and they met, or exceeded, all!

When we bought our house the inspector told us we had some issues with our sewer line. We called around to get a few quotes, and not only was Black Rock Underground the only one who got back to us, but they did so quickly and had someone out to look at our sewer line fairly quickly too.

The estimate was very reasonable, and they identified that some holes in our yard were likely coming from rats digging their way up from a hole in our sewer line. Black Rock told us they could replace our sewer line using a pipe bursting technique.

The actual replacement took about a day and a half. After they were done, they filled back in the parts of our yard they had to dig into, and reseeded our grass. They also added mulch back to our median where they also had to dig.

Our bid included tearing up and replacing our sidewalk, which they ended up not having to do. I was afraid I was going to have to ask for an adjustment after they were done, but they took it off and lowered the final invoice without me having to ask!

We had to abandon our septic tank and hook up to a sewer (thank you, Clean Water Services for refusing to issue a permit that would have allowed us to repair the septic for a fraction of the costs we paid to THEM in fees.)
So, after determining we had no other options, we looked for the best excavating service experienced at doing this. First off, Black Rock Underground came highly recommended, both informally by someone at the County as well as by our former septic service who had done a stellar job. We got competing bids - all in the same ballpark. But Drew and Black Rock were by far the most professional and easy to deal with from the getgo. And this turned out to be one of those situations where first impressions were ongoingly verified. They did just what they said they'd do, were always on time, communicated continuous updates, were friendly - and left our grounds in significantly better condition than I expected (including the nice touch of reseeding grass where they had dug.)

Having been a part of a family run business for 49 years, I feel like I have a fairly good understanding of what a well run business looks like. From start to finish Black Rock was first class. The owner, Corey, always responded to phone calls and was fair in his pricing. They seem to have a well oiled company with Drew scheduling and Brett coming promptly for an examination of our problem. The work crew led by Jeremy did everything better than what I could've hope and I'm a perfectionist. Our job was small comparatively to their normal jobs but they performed professionally. I would definitely use them again and highly recommend Black Rock.

I recently had Black Rock replace my sewer line, and can't say enough good things about them.  Their bid was competitive, and of the 3 bids that we had, they were the only ones that communicated with me clearly during the initial inspection to work up the bid.  The guy that came out said something alone the lines of It's your house, definitely ask me a bunch of questions until you feel comfortable with understanding the issue and what we plan on doing to fix it.  

The work was scheduled in a pretty reasonable amount of time(had to wait a month).  And the job was done two days after that.  Other than a small bump in my yard that should settle during the rainy season, you can barely tell that my yard was filled with 10 feet of dirt from the excavation they had to do to reach our pretty deep line.

I happened to be home when the owner was present for the inspection with the city, and again despite having a busy day was more than willing to answer all of my questions.  Going so far as to show me detailed pictures of the work done as well as re-scoping the line with me present.

But it is the after service that I am commenting on.  
Issue  number 1 after sewer replacement was completed:  Basement flooded do to sewer line backup.  Called and Cory had someone out that afternoon.  The backup was not an issue relating to their work but Joe scoped to find the problem and unclogged the line anyway.
Issue number 2 after sewer replacement was completed and 6 months later:  Soil sinking around the new clean outs.  E-mailed Cory and a crew was out within a few hours and remedied the problem.  Scoped to make sure there was no line problem and filled the settling.  Professionally handled with a minimum of disruption.
I am an old grouch and I have never had aftercare service like this, especially in the plumbing world.

Honestly pays. Plumbing company told me I needed to replace sewer pipe and gave me a $17k estimate. Britt scoped the pipes to give me another bid, except he couldn't give me a bid because my pipes are fine. He didn't even charge me since he couldn't bid the project.

Called Corey to get a bid on a job. He let me know that the type of job I needed required a different company. The guy he recommended ended up being awesome. I really appreciated the help.

Cory and his team at BlackRock Underground are skilled and professional.  I live in a 1920s bungalow in NE PDX, and the sewer runs under my front yard to the street.  The crew dug a trench when I thought I was going to have a trenchless installation.  Corey listened and immediately understood where the communication breakdown had happened.  He totally made it right.
It's when the unexpected happens that you can really tell how someone runs their business.  It was easy to deal with them and everything was fixed in a jiffy.  I'm 1000% satisfied and HIGHLY recommend them!  And hooray, no more sewer worries!

They came out for a sewer scope and did a great job. The tech was finished after about 30 minutes! After he finished, I asked him to peek at my crawl space (because the entrance was blocked during my home inspection). He gladly said okay and was willing to help. I just wanted to know if there was any water down there. He didn't charge me for going down into the crawl space.

I met Cory at our neighborhood. We spoke about the project. He said he could do it. He would order a utility locate and once that was done he would get me on the schedule.
I never heard from him again.
I called, texted and emailed.
Utility locate was never done.
If he didn't want the job...fine. But to leave me hanging and never respond?  Unprofessional

These guys are professional, reliable, and have fair pricing. I got a total of five estimates to decommission my cesspool and hook-up to the city sewer. Black Rock had the cheapest estimate and also Drew who came out to do the estimate was honest about the job and stayed to answer all of my questions. Other companies that came to do estimates, left as soon as they could. My job was urgent so they were flexible with the schedule and got it done ASAP. The crew that came out was professional and Cory always answered all of my questions promptly. I would definitely recommend this company. I am very satisfied with their work.

Needed to have a sewer line replaced to close a property I was selling.   Cory came out the day I called, gave me a competitive bid, and completed the work the following Wednesday.  Super quality work, fast and efficient, and Cory is cool to boot!  Great company to work with!

Black Rock replaced a couple of old sewer pipes that ran under some trees.  They were able to burst the pipes by pulling in new pipe through the old pipes.  It saved having to dig up an asphault driveway and saved some beautiful old trees.  I would recommend Black Rock to anyone without reservation.  Professional, prompt, trustworthy, thorough, friendly, and knowledgeable.  Cory, the owner is great and so is his crew.

Cory and his team were super helpful when we failed a sewer inspection on a house we were selling.  We called Black Rock in for a secondary opinion and quote to fix the problem.  They were more accurate in their locate than the buyers' inspector had been and provided a much more detailed and well thought out bid.  I would highly recommend them.
