UPDATE: After less than 2 months since the New AC was installed, it is deader than a proverbial doornail today. This is going to be a really fun week having to deal with these folks again. On the plus side, I'll be able to test the new systems the owner has supposedly put into place again.
----------
Rapid Repair Experts is neither Rapid nor are they Repair Experts.
The AC went out in my house on a Sunday. I called and the technician said it would probably be Monday before they would be able to get out there.
It is an 11 year old AC and has probably had very little maintenance in that time. The compressor would come one for a little bit and then the fan would stop and there would be a hissing noise. I had taken a video so I could show the technician.
The first technician came out and cleaned the compressor, felt cool air and declared victory and moved on. However just 2 hours later, it was the exact same behavior... took another video.
Called Rapid Repair and explained that they had failed to repair my AC and I needed another service call so that they could actually, well, you know... REPAIR the system as they were supposed to. They said they couldn't do that without approval from my landlord since it would be an after hours call. I said that since the first technician didn't fix it properly, that shouldn't be on my landlord, that is on them and they needed to deal with the fact that they had FAILED to fix the AC properly the first time.
Finally get approval to get someone out there after hours. The technician came in and this time pronounced the compressor dead -- put a bullet in it and put it out of its misery (while, with indoor temperatures over 80 degrees at 10:00 pm, I was still QUITE miserable). He said that he sent an estimate over to my property management company and that once that was approved, they would reschedule the work.
Don't need to have a PhD in Math to realize that we were now at least 2 days out from getting an actual repair scheduled: 1 day to get the estimate approved, at LEAST 1 day to get the repair scheduled due to this being the middle of summer and hot as all get out...
Call my property management company the next day over lunch to inquire about the status of approving the repair request. They said they hadn't gotten any repair estimate from Rapid Repair. While I was on the phone, they actually called Rapid Repair who said they would email over the repair estimate at that point. So.... half another half a day wasted.
Finally, the repair estimate gets approved at 8:00 am the next morning and is supposedly sent over to Rapid Repair. Despite their hours supposedly being 8:30 - 4:30 -- NO ONE from Rapid Repair EVER answers their phone... it goes over to an answering service. The answering service is useless and can only take messages which I assume goes to /dev/null (recycle bin) because NO ONE from Rapid Repair EVER returns phone calls...
At this point, I'm on day 5 without my AC and no end in sight. I can't cook or do laundry in the house because that only makes the house hotter.
As everyone mentioned, the technicians are nice and polite. However, the 2nd technician even admitted that if you dared to show the slightest whiff of displeasure at the delicate snowflakes that work at Rapid Repair, they will punish you by making wait a bit to actually schedule your request. Never mind the fact that after you have taken a day off of work, had one technician completely misdiagnose the issue and waste 1.5 days of my life and made customers suffer in the peak of NC heat... it would take the patience of Gandhi to not get a bit ticked off.
Granted, my wait was complicated by the fact that it was a rental so they are doing business with the property management company so that adds a layer of complexity. However, Rapid Repair also knows that they can shunt me to the bottom of the priority list because the business is guaranteed and not like I can go someplace else unless I want to pay out of pocket.
These people have TERRIBLE customer service skills, TERRIBLE mismanagement of work orders, and TERRIBLE diagnostic skills. I can't think of a think that would make me recommend them for anything other than wasting your time and money.
