SCAMMERS!
A couple years ago, we had them over to take a look at a leak in our bathroom going to the basement, and right away, the guy says, hi! I notice you have toilet paper on your lawn, there's something wrong with your sewer line!! Which there was, we just didn't see it right away- so we said, well let's take a look at the bathroom.. He didn't try to solve the problem, more just said, the basement floor isn't level, so someday u need to gut and renovate someday.. Anyways, then we headed outside to the pipe coming up on our lawn with some toilet paper next to it- he sent a camera down and showed me all these tree roots! So he charged me to grind and get it running smoothly.. Then he told me that the tree roots will be back, and I need a new sewer line- 4,000 bucks, OR 8,000 if they can't get to the line in the street, and we won't know until we get to digging what it will cost- I was so devastated!! I even expressed how it's one thing after another- we were new homeowners, and you know how that goes- we were up to our ears in credit card debt and loans for things going wrong, that I knew we probably couldn't get a loan for this new 8,000 dollar sewer line, he said its a 50/50 chance they could get it through.. Luckily, my brain started working- I'll call other plumbers and see what they will charge- I called 3, YES 3, guess what they ALL SAID??? - mr plumber is scamming you, lots of people have tree roots, and they all took cameras down there, and one place even got a wider grinder down there and said that mr plumber didn't even do a good enough job- that since our pipe was in good shape there's no reason to dig up, just maintenance- so for the past 2+ years, we get it cleaned out, and dump some kind of material down it to inhibit the root growth somewhat- and guess what? My cousin had mr plumber put in a new sewer line for other needed reasons, and her basement JUST flooded... The cause? TREE ROOTS! So why would I get a new sewer line unless they're going to kill and cut down all the trees in our neighborhood? I was ready to beg family for money since we couldn't afford another loan, when this whole time, we pay a great company $150 a year to come out and clean it out. Thanks mr plumber, didn't even bat an eyelash trying to make a buck off of me! Nice try! Glad I called around, always always get other quotes!
Another note- one of the other companies said- if you had needed to get your sewer line dug up, it would have been $3700, period! They said if they aren't skilled enough to slip on a new sewer line onto the part in the street- RUN FROM THEM! They expressed that they're not skilled in the sewer line department
