Electric Brigade

I'm pretty sure I found these guys on Yelp 2 years ago, so I'm not sure where all the other reviews went.  Maybe they were located somewhere else?  Long story short,  Sherlon is the man, and these guys are the real deal.  

If you own your place or the landlord gives you carte blanche to reach out to an electrician/contractor/plumber, EB gets it all done on the first try (not necessarily one visit, but they don't make mistakes).  I've worked with them twice (and know others who have had similar great experiences) and both times I felt confident in the quality of their work, and you could honestly tell they appreciated the business.

Sherlon is the most umprofecional electrician I know, he came to do a job for us, we paid him and he never came back to finish the job, do not give him any money in advance, better yet, do no work with this man, my wall still open after two years because no other electrician wants to take over, again avoid him if possible

Made an appointment - no show.
Called - hung up on me.
I don't know why but he should at least call to cancel.
Very bad attitude. Not professional at all.

Great electrician, I don't know what Will T. is going on about, he definitely seemed like a difficult and irrational customer. Can we give him a yelp review as a customer? I'd give 0/5 stars.

Sherlon, is the man! We blew our house up almost with everything plugged in for Christmas. My crazy Aunt Judy thinks that Christmas should look like 4th of July over the Hudson.  Anyway, Sherlon replaced our who circuit box before our garage could catch fire again. He also came out in the middle of the night to hook everything back up!  Thanks Sherlon

I can say nothing but great things about Electric Brigade!  I am in the process of selling my condo and needed to replace my hard-wired smoke detector to get my smoke detector certificates from the town.  Even calling after 4 pm on a Friday, Sherlon was able to come within 2 hours and took care of install very quickly.  He was friendly, incredibly knowledgeable and overall a pleasure to work with. If I wasn't moving out of Hoboken, I'd go to EB for all of my electrician needs!

Had a problem with my electric.  Came out a couple hours later to resolve.  Great service!

I had an electrical emergency late last night and called Brigade to help based on reviews. Sherlon, was nothing short of spectacular. He was responsive and professional and really had the patience to help me troubleshoot until he was able to get one of his guys there. This morning at 7 am sharp Tim showed up and was able to locate and solve the problem with our sub panel immediately. Tim was very knowledgeable and gave me an education on why what happened, happened. Overall, from top to bottom these guys were amazing. Would use them again in a heart beat!

Electrical work was adequate to pass inspection but I was definitely taken for a ride by a smooth talking owner. I was told several times that their focus is on larger companies and individuals like me simply pay the bills and keep the lights on for them. And that's exactly how I was treated.

I engaged the company to perform electrical work for a basic rewiring on a kitchen remodel. Itemized pricing seemed reasonable at the time and I, with my lack of experience and knowledge of the process, blindly agreed to pay a material amount extra ($1000!!) to have them submit permits and walk through 2 inspections. This is something that, as I have subsequently learned, is usually captured in the cost of the quote for the electrical work. As a side note, he even offered me the services of one of his plumber friends who would be so kind as to submit permits and conduct inspections for a similar $1000 fee. I politely declined.

Long story short, electrical work was completed with no issues despite some increases beyond initial quoted price but when it came time for each inspection NOBODY was actually present to walk the inspector through the work. For the initial inspection the owner / head electrician came at the wrong time despite being advised of the correct time and when the inspector was late he even had the audacity to threaten me with an additional charge to have to come again. Fortunately it did not get to that. For the second/final electrical inspection he was also not present but I was lucky enough to receive notification of this from his office minutes before the inspector arrived.

In fairness, i'm sure these guys are good at electrical work and I did ultimately agree to the amount of the additional services fee (lesson very much learned there), but when I DARED ask for a partial refund on the basis of services not complete (something i thought was pretty standard contract/consumer law), I was effectively laughed off the phone with the aid of another one of his contractor friends and told that he has been in business for X number of years and he would not be returning a cent and I was in the wrong for scheduling the inspection myself (despite being asked to do exactly that by them) and because I had done so, that was sufficient to put him outside the reach of the most basic principle in the legal system.

To summarise the above, I do not recommend using this company unless you would like to pay for the opportunity to make mistakes, for the sole purpose of learning from them.

I have used Electric Brigade twice now and am more impressed by them each time.  They arrive exactly on time.  They are knowledgeable and very responsive.  They were installing an electric line for a sump pump and went out of their way to contact the head engineer of the pump's manufacturer to ensure that the appropriate connection and power supply was being made and to inquire as to their suggested more efficient manner of doing the connection.  They then did online research and e-mailed me proposals all without even being asked to do so just to make sure that I was getting the safest and most efficient connection. I will always use them in the future and recommend them to anyone who will listen.

I called around 2:30 to explain the problem and because there had been a cancellation, someone was able to come out within an hour! He rewired an outlet and installed two new GFI outlets. The electrician was great and answered some other questions I had. Great, quick service and it seemed like a reasonable price to me!

I called with a question regarding my heavy upstairs neighbors possibly knocking electrical wires loose as they pound and stomp because it seems to cause our ceiling fan lights to go on and off. The receptionist took my information and took the time to call an electrician in the field to ask about the issue. She called me back in less than five minutes with the electrician's response, which I am now forwarding to my landlord. I haven't used their services yet, but I plan to in the future. Great service! I have been using the company for electric work in the last several years. The owner always responds in no time and follow up with my need as soon as possible. The price is also very reasonable. I'd definitely recommend their service.

I had a very poor experience with Electirc Brigade.  I had a problem with one of the outlets in my apartment, and called Electric Brigade to diagnose it.  An electrician came, did some checks, and told me that a wire must have gotten damaged somewhere between the patch panel and the outlet.  He said it would require running a new wire from the panel to the outlet.  He told me that because it would require making multiple holes in the the wall, it would cost $1,000.  Thinking that the price was too high, I called a couple of other companies in the area, and one of them agreed to do the same job for $400.  When the electrician came to do the job, he actually figured out that the problem was with the outlet.  It turned out that the Electric Brigade electrician: 1) Diagnosed the problem incorrectly; 2) Quoted me an exorbitant price for a job that didn't even need to be done.

Excellent, speedy service. I called and they sent a technician the same day...all the way to Englewood. Extremely professional and thorough. So glad I found them!

Called them for a simple problem (double tap in electrical box) and they were able to come out same day as they're local to Hoboken.

Worker that came didn't exactly know what a double tap was, nor that a pigtail repair is perfectly sufficient per NJ Code (structuretech1.com/2010/… )

We discussed that the pigtail could be longer (unnecessary, but if they wanted $25 extra I wasn't going to fight it)..  He took a picture, and went back to his van to talk to the boss..  Came back from the van 10 minutes later (van wasn't that far away,) and apparently my circuit breakers looked old (on an android phone picture no less) and he'd have to replace the perfectly good breaker instead of signing off on the pigtail.

Knowing enough about the code to know that repair was COMPLETELY UNNECESSARY (it was already fixed by someone with an NY license), I basically threw him out instead of being upsold on unnecessary repairs.  

Before he left, I asked if he was personally licensed to work in NJ..  His response: Have a good night sir..    I think that answers my question.  

Yes, I'm pissed.. but this could have been $150 for them signing off that a 5 minute job was done properly.  Heck, they could have redone it for that price and I wouldn't have cared.. but the switch to a multi hundred dollar circuit breaker replacement was extorsion in my opinion.  

Instead they get this review from me for free.  I would not recommend them.

If you've got a late night emergency Sherlon is the man to call. He has responded swiftly twice in the past yr and charged me an amount which I thought was very fair. 1/8/13

These guys are great! Their work is outstanding and they go above and beyond what they need to. I was recently hit by sandy and they have been nothing but a pleasant part of rebuilding. Thank you for everything. I would Highly recommend them!

don't even bother using anyone else. sherlon of electric brigade is awesome, honest and a nice guy. he's also real tall, so he can reach those hard to reach smoke detectors!!
